On The Lot Contestant: Zach Lipovsky

Zach Lipovsky is one of the 18 finalists on Fox’s new hit reality television series On The Lot and it just so happens that we have something in common, Zach, like me, is a Vancouver boy! Zach is a highly respected special effects guru and is considered by many to be one of, if not the best, in the city of Vancouver.

On The Lot has provided 18 people with the opportunity of a lifetime. Not only will each contestant have their work made known to millions of people all over the world, one lucky contestant (hopefully Zach), will win the ultimate filmmakers prize, a coveted job at DreamWorks studios! Even better still, the winner of the reality TV series will get to work with the master director himself, Steven Spielberg.

Though only 22 years old, Zach Lipovsky is far from new to the filmmaking industry and has in fact had his hands in a number of films and animated shorts; he is even a part/founder (though I’m not 100% sure on that) of Zeeworks Media. One of his most recent projects is titled Paradise Redrawn.

Paradise Redrawn is a live action/animated short film about a girl (Sophie) in Catholic School who is bored with her classes and begins to draw and doodle in her notebook. As she doodles, her drawings come to life and peel off the pages, eventually evolving into two separate nations that go to war with one another. Sophie, being the creator of both nations and essentially god, has to come to terms and deal with the events.

On The Lot episode 3 aired last night, giving Zach another opportunity to have his work featured, and by all accounts his 1-minute comedy short film was a hit. I am rooting for him to win, but not just because he is a fellow Vancouverite. From what I have seen of his work so far, it is beautiful, and I think he could bring a great deal of creativity and innovation to the filmmaking industry.

For a better idea of why I’ve been raving about Zach’s work, watch his Paradise Redrawn Featurette (above) and his incredibly inventive audition video (below), or watch the short film he and two partners came up with in only 24-hours in episode 2 of On The Lot, entitled “Time Out“.

On The Lot Episode 3 Recap

I must have missed something here. I thought I had seen every episode of On The Lot that had aired thus far, but I guess I must have missed one. From what I remember at the end of episode 2, the TV show was down to 24 contestants, waiting to cut things down even further to the final 18 contestants in episode 3, yet when episode 3 started up tonight, the list of contestants had already been worked down to 18 finalists. Maybe I’m just confused, but I swear six contestants just vanished without explanations.

With that being said, tonight was the first 1-hour “film premiere” episode of the reality television show’s regular schedule and all 18 contestants screened their 1-minute comedy shorts for the judges. Some of the short films were loved by the judges, some were misunderstood, but oddly, none were completely hated. Though the judges didn’t really care for a few of the short films, they almost shied away from criticizing them. It may be the fact that I’m used to the two soft judges and one hard-ass judge style of American Idol, but it seemed fairly obvious to me that the On The Lot judges were big fans of the positive-negative-positive style of giving feedback. That isn’t necessarily a bad thing, but the blood-thirsty sadistic drama-monger in me wants to see one of the judges tear apart a contestant’s work.

The most notable films of On The Lot episode 3 were by far that of Andrew, Zach, Adam and Shira-Lee. Andrew did a great short film on a cop pulling over a UFO full of drunken aliens. Zach did an awesome short all in one take on safety in an incredibly unsafe lab. Adam’s short featured a man that communicated only through interpretive dance and Shira-Lee offered a sexy take on security screening at the airport. All in all, the night’s films were great! At this point, my pick to win it all is Zach Lipovsky, a special effects guru and hometown boy from Vancouver, Canada.

On a side note: Fox Television has seriously screwed up with On The Lot! They have one contestant from Spain, one from the U.K. and even a local boy from Vancouver, BC Canada, yet voting is only open to residents of the Unites States. What exactly is the point of promoting the fact that the contestants come from all over the world, and even taking contestants from all over the world, when people outside the United States can’t even support their contestants? Being from Vancouver, a big fan of On The Lot and a fan of Zach Lipovsky‘s work, I’m rather pissed that I can’t show my support and vote for my favorite contestant, or any contestant, for that matter. Seriously guys, reality television shows broadcast to countries all over the world and, when you use that fact as a way to draw in viewers’, you should at the very least support those viewers votes. I’m very disappointed in Fox TV for this one.

On The Lot off to a Strong Start

I have to admit, I was a bit skeptical about the entire premise of the newest reality television show to hit Fox, On The Lot. Luckily, and after watching only two episodes I may add, the show has officially won me over. As a matter of fact, I believe On The Lot may just be one of the most promising new reality TV shows of the season.

The idea behind the show is fantastic, the challenges have, thus far, been entertaining and, more importantly, incredibly challening, and I think the series has the potential for greatness. Chalk another one up to the reality TV world’s most noted executive producer, Mark Burnett. But not all the credit can be given to Burnett alone, after all, the legendary director/producer behind such films as Letters From Iwo Jima, Munich, Memoirs of a Geisha, Saving Private Ryan, Jurassic Park, Schindler’s List, ET and Jaws, Mr. Steven Spielberg himself, stepped up to help mold the show.

In case you haven’t seen the show yet, On The Lot will pit 18 aspiring filmmakers from all over the world against one another, all in the hopes of scoring a lucrative $1-million development deal with DreamWorks. One The Lot features four very well known and highly respected judges: Carrie Fisher, better known as Princess Leia of the Star Wars series; Jon Avnet, director and producer of over 50 feature films; Brett Ratner, director of X-Men 3 and the Rush Hour series; and legendary actor and funnyman, Garry Marshall.

With episode 1 and 2 having already airied, the list of contestants has already been trimmed down to 24 hopefuls and, come Monday, May 29, the show will lose yet another 12, leaving only 18 lucky contestants to wage cinematic warfare. Miss episodes 1 and 2? Watch On The Lot Online, and get caught up!

On The Lot airs on Fox Television every Monday and Tuesday, with a one-hour “Film Premiere” episode, followed Tuesdays by a half-hour “Box Office” results show. Check your local listings for dates and times. And don’t forget the popcorn!

Hell’s Kitchen 3 Details

Things are starting to heat up around here! With the fall reality TV lineup all but wrapped up, it is time for the summer TV shows to officially kick into gear and pick up the slack, and you know what that means? Time for Hell’s Kitchen 3 baby!

Hell’s Kitchen has been one of my absolute favorite reality television shows since it’s premiere season and now going into it’s third season, things are looking better than ever. The new season is packed with great chefs, great dishes, amazing rewards, all new twists and, of course, what would the show be without the belligerent rantings of one of Britain’s finest, Chef Gordon Ramsay!

Hell’s Kitchen 3 kicks-off Monday, June 4 at 9/8 central on Fox and will pit 12 aspiring master chefs against one another for the coveted title of Head Chef of the brand new Green Valley Ranch Resort and Spa in Las Vegas! Once again the contestants will be divided into two seperate teams; that’s right folks, we’re in for another exciting round of Girls vs. Guys competition.

Without further adieu, I present to you and yours, the 12 Hell’s Kitchen 3 contestants:

  • Red Team (Girls team)
    • Bonnie, 26 of Los Angeles, CA – Nanny/personal chef
    • Jen, 26 of Hazelton, PA – Pastry chef
    • Joanna, 22 of Detroit, MI – Chef’s assistant
    • Julia, 28 of Atlanta, GA – Short-order cook
    • Melissa, 29 of New York, NY – Line cook
    • Tiffany, 27 of Scottsdale, AZ – Kitchen manager
  • Blue Team (Guys team)
    • Aaron, 48 of Palos Verdes, CA – Retirement home chef
    • Brad, 25 of Scottsdale, AZ – Sous chef
    • Eddie, 28 of Atlanta, GA – Grill cook
    • Josh, 26 of Miami Beach, FL – Junior sous chef
    • Rock, 30 of Spotsylvania, VA – Executive chef
    • Vinnie, 29 of Milltown, NJ – Night club chef

My initial impression of the new cast is, well… interesting:

Aaron is already doomed to fail. Hell’s Kitchen generally doesn’t go to well for older people and, let’s face it, a retirement home chef? That’s just not going to cut it.

Rock is in for one hell of a difficult time and a whole ton of ass riding compliments of Chef Gordon Ramsay. Judging by the past two seasons of the hit reality TV series, Ramsay is anything but a fan of Executive Chef’s and seems to give them extra special attention.

Julia doesn’t stand a chance either. From the initial episode 1 preview video I’ve seen, anyone that breaks down in tears while trying to do something as simple as fry an egg is doomed.

I have to admit, this season has got me excited and I am really looking forward to the first episode. But, going into Hell’s Kitchen 3 pretty much blind, my initial pick to win it all is 27-year old kitchen manager Tiffany. She’s been in kitchens all her life, she’s got professional training and, judging by the preview videos, she seems to be in the right mindset. You heard it here first folks! Tiffany will win Hell’s Kitchen 3 (maybe), hehe.

Fire up your TiVo’s, stock the fridge with drinks and snacks, and get ready, Hell’s Kitchen 3 kicks-off June 4 at 9/8 central! Don’t miss it.

Stay tuned for more Hell’s Kitchen 3 recaps, spoilers, videos and live blogs. They’re all coming your way on dingoRUE.com!

This post is dedicated to the memory of Hell’s Kichen 2 contstant Rachel Brown who just recently passed away. Our thoughts go out to the friends and family of Rachel in this hard time.

Survivor Fiji Winner Revealed!

Survivor: China Winner
Survivor: Micronesia Winner

It’s been a long and exciting season of Survivor Fiji and the finale did not disappoint. Although I have to say I am not happy with Global TV at all! Right as the final four were going to tribal council to determine who would be included in the final three they cut to commercial. I assumed they were doing this as the usual way of building suspense, but the commercials went on and on for two or three minutes and by the time they ended and the show was back on, Earl, Dreamz and Cassandra were back at camp discussing how they had just got rid of Yau-Man. What the hell!!?

Since the end of last weeks show, were Yau-Man agreed to give Dreamz the truck as long as he was to hand over immunity should he win it in the final four, they have been hyping the entire will he or won’t he story surrounding immunity. Sure enough Dreamz ended up winning immunity in tonight’s challenge and, when the time came to make his decision at tribal council, Global TV crapped out and I missed the entire thing. I couldn’t believe when they came back and Yau was gone. I was pissed at the fact that my favorite contestant got the boot, but ever more pissed that I didn’t get to see what went down. Global TV, you guys screwed up big time, thanks a lot. I hope the U.S. viewers who were watching Survivor Fiji on CBS didn’t have the same problem.

Once I managed to get over the anger of missing the single most integral part of the night’s episode I focused on furthering my hatred of Dreamz. As much as I love Survivor, I have to say, I do not like the idea of voting on the final three, I much prefer the final two. Also, both this season and last has ended with one deserving contestant (Earl) making the final three, while the other two are completely undeserving of being their and only made it through by coasting (Cassandra) or pure luck (Dreamz).

With that being said, I don’t want to give the Survivor Fiji Winner away to anyone that has the finale TiVo’ed, or anyone that hasn’t yet watched it, so if you’re looking to find out who won you’ll have to check things out after the jump!

**UPDATE: Survivor Fiji Winner Revealed!**

Alex Angarita was the 12th person to be voted off the island on tonight’s episode of Survivor Fiji, leaving us with just six remaining contestants. Unlike the Amazing Race All Stars winners, which were leaked a few months ago, the Survivor Fiji winner has thankfully yet to be leaked. How, you may ask, can the Survivor Fiji winner be leaked when the finale is live? Put quite simply, I don’t know, but it certainly wouldn’t be the first time a Survivor winner was known before the live finale aired. Luckily we haven’t had to contend with that this year and Survivor Fiji is still watchable, even if it hasn’t been one of the hit reality TV shows best seasons.

The six finalists on Survivor Fiji are: Kenward “Boo” Bernis, Cassandra Franklin, Andria (Dre) “Dreamz” Herd, Earl Cole, Stacy Kimball and Yau-Man Chan. The elimination of Alex Angarita on tonight’s episode signalled a shift in the balance of the show, as Alex was the final remaining member of a once strong alliance and now the remaining six contestants will have to break their deep rooted alliance, forming smaller splinter groups, selecting and picking off a new batch of targets.

Having watched most of the season, and through the process of elimination, I can fairly confidently say that neither Boo, Cassandra or Dreamz will become the Survivor Fiji winner, that is of course unless they decide to team up and manage to pull the proverbial rabbit from a hat.

My prediction for the Survivor Fiji final three is Earl, Yau-Man and Stacy, though I also have the sneaking suspicion that Stacy could be swapped out with either Dreamz or Cassandra in a strategic move to give both Earl and Yau-Man a better shot at the prize. Either way, it is all going to come down to Earl vs. Yau-Man in the end, even if there is a third contestant on the block, they will be ignored, much liked happened in Survivor Cook Islands.

With that being said, my pick for who will win Survivor Fiji is… *insert drum roll here*… Earl Cole! He’s done a very good job playing the game and everyone in it for the entire season and I have thought since day one that Earl would be the man to walk away with the grand prize. Don’t agree with me? Leave a comment and let me know who you think will walk away the winner of Survivor Fiji.

Don’t forget, there are only 10-days left until the 2-hour live season finale of Survivor Fiji where the winner will be revealed! The Survivor Fiji season finale airs at 8pm EST on Sunday, May 13th on CBS and will be followed by a 1-hour live reunion show.

Political Reality TV: Mark Burnett’s Independent

I’m a huge reality TV fan, but I’ll also be the first to admit that the evolution and progression of reality TV has seemingly come to a halt in recent years. Things have gotten stagnant and innovation has been put on the back burner in favor of pumping out another couple seasons of the surefire and classic reality TV shows like American Idol 6, Survivor Fiji, Amazing Race All-Stars and the likes. And you know what, it is getting harder and harder to get excited about a new season of reality TV shows when there are no new, fresh faces in the crowd.

Luckily it looks like Mark Burnett, the grandfather of reality TV and mastermind of such hit shows as Survivor, Rock Star Supernova, The Apprentice, The Contender, Are You Smarter Than a Fifth Grader and On The Lot may have come to the rescue with a brand new reality TV show! Best of all, I love the idea for the show and think it would make for great television.

Mark Burnett‘s newest idea is tentatively titled Independent and, should it actually get picked up and start production (which I don’t think it has as of yet, fingers crossed though), will bring the world of MySpace and politics to reality TV! The idea is to have MySpace users create politically driven audition videos and wage election campaigns via MySpace. A select group (no numbers have been released as of yet) with the highest number of votes received from MySpace users will be whisked away to battle it out in a politically charged reality TV show, running election campaigns, rallying for votes and ending it all in what will no doubt be a heated debate. The contestants will be competing for a $1-million grand prize that they must either donate to a political cause of their choice, or – and this is were things get really interesting – use the cash to fund their own political campaigns! That’s right folks, from MySpace, to reality TV to… the White House? You never know, after all, Sanjaya Malakar did make it to 7th place on American Idol 6, so anything can happen in the world of reality TV.

When asked about the idea behind Independent, MySpace Chief Executive Chris DeWolfe said “A lot of people think the younger generation doesn’t care about politics, and we’ve just empirically seen that not to be true.” And he could not have been more on the ball, which is exactly what makes me so excited about the entire idea behind this show. The youth (of which I still consider myself a part) are taking more and more interest in politics, and anything that can possibly further that interest is a great thing. Many of today’s youth have come to the blazingly apparent realization that the political climate in North America, and for that matter – the rest of the world, is not in a good state, and unless the future politicians and voters of the world start to take notice, things will never change.

My hat goes off to Mark Burnett for this, one of many fantastic ideas. I for one cannot wait to see the idea behind Independent come to fruition.

Amazing Race All-Stars Winners

The Amazing Race 10 winner
The Amazing Race 12 winner
The Amazing Race 13 winner
The Amazing Race 14 winner

What can I say, it’s been hard to maintain any kind of interest in Amazing Race All Stars when the order of elimination and winners have already been revealed.

Tonight was the 12th leg of the race and, as I already knew before watching, Danny and Oswald ended up coming in last, earning themselves a one way ticket home. So that leaves us with just 3 remaining teams: Charla and Mirna, Danielle and Eric and Dustin and Kandice. Who do you think is going to walk away with the grand prize? You never know, the leaked information could be wrong.

Just in case you’re curious, you can find the Amazing Race All Stars Winners after the jump. Enjoy!
