Sanjaya Moving to Hollywood

Posted by Shane on Tuesday, September 4, 2007 at 5:59 pm

If you hoped it was over, prepare for those hopes to be dashed. Sanjaya Malakar and his family are preparing to move to Hollywood in October since it’s closer to the music industry, reports the Seattle Post-Intelligencer. The family also hopes this will be good for his sister, Shymali, who was cut early on in the audition process.

The good news from this story if there is good news is that Sanjaya’s old home at 2313 SW 339th St in Federal Way, Washington, a five-bedroom, one-bathroom house with a recording studio, is now on the market. So if you’d like to move to the Seattle area, you, too, can live like Sanjaya for $360,000, a “no Sanjaya premium” price, says the real estate agent.

Blake Lewis Signs With Arista

Posted by Shane on Saturday, August 25, 2007 at 7:05 pm

Last week, we reported that the winner of American Idol 6 Jordin Sparks got a record deal, and this week it’s runner up Blake Lewis’ turn. Blake has signed with Arista Records. Arista is run by Clive Davis, with its most known artist being Whitney Houston. Taylor Hicks, Jennifer Hudson, and Carrie Underwood are also on this label.

Billboard reports Blake’s record is “your favorite ’80s mix tape,” Lewis says, “very inspired by Michael Jackson, Prince, Erasure, Depeche Mode, Duran Duran, the Cure. It’s all over the map, really — very influenced by ’80s hip-hop, old school breaks, whatever.” It will be released later this year.

As for Jordin’s album, “It’d kind of Kelly Clarkson’s pop edge, a little bit,” she says, “and I recorded a ballad-y type song, like a power vocal song, and then I recorded just a really fun, fast one. I’m trying to mix everything together. I’m loving all the songs I’m recording, so hopefully that will come off the album when you listen to it and you’ll be able to feel the emotion.”

Jordin Sparks Signs With Jive Records

Posted by Shane on Friday, August 17, 2007 at 8:20 pm

Three months after winning American Idol 6, Jordin Sparks has signed a record deal with Jive Records, a division of Sony BMG, in conjunction with Simon Cowell’s 19Recordings. For the past decade, Jive has represented Backstreet Boys and Britney Spears, whose fanbase was in line with where Jordin’s will likely be.

“American Idol has truly been a life altering experience,” Jordin said. “Signing with 19Recordings/Jive and Barry Weiss and his great team is hopefully the beginning of another dream opportunity for me to deliver the kind of meaningful music I love. I can’t wait to share this next chapter of my story with all the fans that have supported me so far.”

Jordin’s first single, Tattoo, will debut on August 27th, with a November release date set for the album.

Hillary Clinton, American Idol 6 Reject?

Posted by soultrance on Monday, January 29, 2007 at 2:17 pm

My wife sent me this video and I just had to post it.

Watch and enjoy as the potential future President of the United States butchers the national anthem!

It’s to bad she didn’t give American Idol 6 a go instead, I would have loved to see Simon Cowell’s comments on this performance.

American Idol 6: Comedy or Tragedy?

Posted by soultrance on Sunday, January 21, 2007 at 5:30 pm

american idol 6

Though the huge ratings received by the first 2 episode of American Idol 6 would have you believe the popularity of the show hasn’t faded, the reviews you can find all over the web would have you thinking otherwise.

The general consensus across reality TV, TV and really any blog or website you can find that writes about American Idol 6, is that thinks aren’t off to a very good start, yet we still watch it. The judges have been even harsher than usual, almost coming across as cruel at some points, and the producers of the show are playing up the cruel and sadder side of the show much more than they need to.

The fist episode alone started off with a contestant who thought she could sing well getting torn a new one by the judges, which isn’t unusual in and of itself. The part, however, that got on quite a few peoples nerves, was how they focused on the sobbing contestant and followed her outside the audition room to watch her cry and whimper to her family. Talk about starting the season off on a low note!

American Idol 6: Let The Madness Begin!

Posted by soultrance on Tuesday, January 16, 2007 at 11:00 am

Well, the faithful day has come! Tonight is part 1 of the 2-hour season premier of American Idol 6! As usual, you can expect every other network to run away screaming as the monolith that is American Idol 6 touches down. Year after year the show consistently beats out any and every other show it has had to match time slots with. Most networks will no longer even attempt to take down the American Idol franchise and choose rather to move their top shows to other days and times.

American Idol 6: Paula Abdul Tweaks Out

Posted by soultrance on Friday, January 12, 2007 at 12:11 pm

American Idol 6 host and former pop-star Paula Abdul appeared on Q13 Fox for an interview recently and appeared to be tweaking out.

Rumors of alleged drug, alcohol or some form of substance abuse spread like wild fire during season 5 of American Idol, though they seemed to be put to rest as Paula shaped up towards the end of the season. Well, judging by this video, she’s back at it again.

I’ve never really taken a shine to Paula as a host, and her music is dreadful, but it is really unfortunate to see her like this, especially before American Idol 6 even kicks off. Hopefully she can pull herself together and get through everything, otherwise she’s heading down a bad path that could potentially end her career as an Idol host.

Watch the video of a tweaked out American Idol 6 host Paula Abdul, after the jump!

American Idol 6: The Audition Schedule

Posted by soultrance on Wednesday, January 10, 2007 at 10:40 pm

American Idol is one of the top rated reality TV shows in existence and the newest installment of the smash hit TV series is about to begin, and every fan knows what that means: Auditions!

As sick as it is, my favorite part, and many other peoples favorite part of an entire American Idol season is the first few episodes when we get to see the absolute worst of the worst crash and burn. The audition episodes have become as much a part of reality TV as being on an island for Survivor.

This season the world is in for a real treat, as American Idol 6 is going to be kicking off with a whopping 8 auditions episodes! Usually we get a brief dip into the casting calls and only get 2 - 4 episodes dedicated to the massacre, but we’re really in for a treat this time. Each of the 7 major cities that held casting calls will have their very own episodes, with a final 8th episode sucking up the remaining crap that they happened upon on their cross country casting journey.

Find out what episodes will air when, after the jump!
