The Amazing Race 28 Winners

Posted by Shane on Saturday, May 14, 2016 at 1:18 am

After deciding to switch detours in The Amazing Race 28 Episode 11, Burnie & Ashley really had no chance of staying in the game. That left Tyler & Korey, Dana & Matt, and Sheri & Cole competing to see who will be the winners.

Tyler & Korey have been one of the dominant teams, and the last two legs have seen their toughest competition fall. They are left competing against one team with a member who was constantly bickering with herself and another team that barely survived, so they are the clear odds on favorite, but one of the underdogs pulling it off is entirely possible and perhaps even likely in a show like this, where the best team often isn’t the winning team.

Teams depart in the order in which they arrived, probably.

Teams must now fly more than 7000 miles to Los Angeles, CA. All teams are on the same flight.

The road block requires teams to jump off a skyscraper to grab their clue suspended in the air.

Road block (in order of arrival): Matt, Sheri, Tyler

A scary but simple road block, but if they miss the jump, they have to try again. Matt makes it on his first attempt. Sheri, who’s doing this because her son is afraid, doesn’t even come close as she jumps through the tears. Tyler likewise misses on his first attempt. With each failed attempt, the clue is moved closer, making it easy like the camel racing task, although Tyler still misses on his second try.

From there, teams will take a helicopter ride to Santa Barbara. Upon arrival, they will search through hundreds of boats for a specific one.

Dana & Matt have been running ahead of the pack, but then they tell their taxi to leave and have to find another one. This is a pretty basic mistake for the final leg. As dumb as this seems, they aren’t alone. Sheri & Cole do the same, and then they leave the only cab in the area because the driver says she doesn’t know where their destination is. By the time they realize they’re not going to find anything else, Tyler & Korey are sitting in that cab. They hope to point the driver in the right direction using her cell phone, but ironically, though you would think being in the US would serve some language advantage or at least not a disadvantage, the barrier still exists.

At Gibraltar Rock, one team member must attempt a tyrolean traverse while lowering their partner down the vertical rock. This looks like a first come, first served task, causing Tyler & Korey to have to wait for the team in front of them to finish.

The final road block requires teams to use barrels to spell cities they have been to based on hashtag clues.

Road block (in order of arrival): Dana, Cole, Korey

Like the previous road block, this doesn’t seem like much of a challenge, as Dana & Matt get it on their first try. It’s pretty obvious how this race is going to end.

The Amazing Race 28 winners are Dana & Matt. They ran a competent race, despite all the unnecessary yelling, but never really performed at the top of the pack. Sheri & Cole finish in second place. After being the best performing team and finishing first five times, Tyler & Korey trip at the finish line for third place, never catching up after struggling a bit to find the first road block.

The Amazing Race 28 Episode 11

Posted by Shane on Friday, May 6, 2016 at 11:24 pm

The lead teams colluded, without apparently having been smart enough to actually plan for it, to eliminate Brodie & Kurt in The Amazing Race 28 Episode 10 by using the U-Turn against them and then not permitting them to U-turn anyone else.

Teams depart in the order in which they arrived.

First: Tyler & Korey - 7:34AM
Second: Burnie & Ashley - 7:35AM
Third: Dana & Matt - 7:48AM
Fourth: Sheri & Cole - 7:51AM

With their U-turn plan, Tyler & Korey and Burnie & Ashley are the odds on favorite and eliminated what had been the strongest team, at least until Kurt couldn’t do any more road blocks and everything fell apart. Tyler thinks Dana & Matt are learning to communicate. I have not seen that change. Then there’s Sheri & Cole, who admit they’re not up to par with the other teams, but perhaps they could dumb luck their way into the finals.

Teams must now fly more than 2000 miles to Shenzhen, China. All teams are on the same flight.

Upon arrival, they have to find clues. After finding theirs, Tyler & Korey lie to Sheri & Cole and tell them they haven’t found anything yet. Then Burnie & Ashley walk by and comment about how there aren’t any clues left. Well, that lie didn’t work, and after finding the last clue, Sheri & Cole know exactly what just happened.

The road block at the Window of the World theme park requires teams to solve riddles to find famous monuments.

Road block (in order of arrival): Tyler, Dana, Burnie, Sheri

Not wanting to compete against Burnie & Ashley if possible, Tyler decides to work with Dana. That may help them get ahead, but it won’t do anything to help Sheri & Cole catch up. Then they do end up helping Burnie anyway because Dana, presumably not wanting to litter, tosses sticker backings into one of the cases. More bad lying by Tyler follows, but Burnie doesn’t fall for it.

The detour is a choice between commuter cycle or master of arts. In commuter cycle, teams must learn to ride hands free electric unicycles. In master of arts, teams must deliver and hang paintings according to the specifications.

Commuter Cycle: Sheri & Cole
Master of Arts: Tyler & Korey, Dana & Matt, Burnie & Ashley (switched from commuter cycle)

The cycling task is a matter of continuing to practice until you learn it. Burnie & Ashley eventually decide it will take too long, moving themselves from first to last. The other task is about precision of hanging paintings, which may require multiple (two) attempts with a lot of shifting the paintings around but doesn’t seem too difficult.

The pit stop for this leg of the race is Shenzhen Library Terrace.

First: Tyler & Korey
Second: Dana & Matt
Third: Sheri & Cole
Eliminated: Burnie & Ashley

Sheri & Cole struggled with the detour but stuck with it because they felt like they had no choice. Had Burnie & Ashley done the same, they probably would have been the third place team.

The Amazing Race 28 Episode 10

Posted by Shane on Sunday, May 1, 2016 at 12:59 pm

As the only team to have a female do the first very physical road block, Zach & Rachel were eliminated in The Amazing Race 28 Episode 9.

Teams depart in the order in which they arrived.

First: Tyler & Korey - 7:45AM
Second: Burnie & Ashley - 7:52AM
Third: Sheri & Cole - 7:53AM
Fourth: Dana & Matt - 7:54AM
Fifth: Brodie & Kurt - 7:58AM

Teams must now head to Nusa Lembongan, still in Indonesia. All teams, including the team that was eliminated, finished within 15 minutes of each other.

The detour is a choice between harvest or haul. In harvest, teams must harvest seaweed. In haul, teams must deliver 50 coconuts and 4 chickens.

Haul: Tyler & Korey, Burnie & Ashley, Sheri & Cole, Brodie & Kurt, Dana & Matt

Every team chooses the same detour. This would seem to favor the stronger males. But then there’s Dana, the only person who can only carry a single chicken because she needs to save the rest of her energy to yell at her partner. After doing her share of about 15% of the work, she’s still exhausted.

Tyler & Korey are the first to arrive at the U-turn board, and they U-turn Brodie & Kurt, who they see as the biggest threat, though Brodie must now do all the road blocks and has proven to not be very good at them. Korey isn’t sure they made a smart move because everybody did the same task, and they can just turn around and U-turn the team behind them. Burnie & Ashley have a better plan. They U-Turn Tyler & Korey, wasting the U-turn so that Brodie & Kurt can’t use it on anybody.

The road block requires teams to jump four stories off a cliff.

Road block (in order of arrival): Tyler, Ashley, Cole, Matt, Brodie

A rather simple task that won’t last long enough for anyone who just had to do two detours to catch up.

The Bajra Sandhi monument is the pit stop for this leg of the race.

First: Tyler & Korey (win an Alaskan cruise)
Second: Burnie & Ashley
Third: Dana & Matt
Fourth: Sheri & Cole
Eliminated: Brodie & Kurt

After the other teams colluded to get rid of them, Brodie & Kurt have been eliminated.

The Amazing Race 28 Episode 9

Posted by Shane on Friday, April 22, 2016 at 11:59 pm

Sheri & Cole continued to limp along in The Amazing Race 28 Episode 8 but were saved by non-elimination.

Teams depart in the order in which they arrived.

First: Brodie & Kurt - 12:28AM
Second: Burnie & Ashley - 12:30AM
Third: Tyler & Korey - 1:18AM
Fourth: Zach & Rachel - 1:31AM
Fifth: Dana & Matt - 1:48AM
Sixth: Sheri & Cole - 4:11AM

Brodie & Kurt may not be that far ahead of some of the teams, but it’s clear based on how far ahead they are of the trailing teams, notably Sheri & Cole, that they wasted their express pass. It’s not even like they gave it a lot of consideration or effort and thought they were in danger either. They were in first place and had plenty of time to make a decision.

Teams must now fly 4600 miles to Bali, Indonesia. All teams are on the same flight.

Upon arrival, teams pick times for departure the next morning.

6:15AM - Brodie & Kurt, Sheri & Cole
6:30AM - Burnie & Ashley, Tyler & Korey
6:45AM - Zach & Rachel, Dana & Matt

The first task is to deliver offerings to temples, including the large snakes that are put around their necks.

The road block requires teams to collect sea water and produce salt.

Prior to that, Sheri & Cole must prepare and sell 10 breakfasts and eat one themselves for their speed bump.

Road block (in order of arrival): Kurt, Tyler, Burnie, Rachel, Cole, Matt

Brodie doesn’t seem to want to do any road blocks, which may become a problem now that Kurt is up to his sixth since it puts the team in a position where they have no choice but to have Brodie do them. With Brodie having done only three, one of which he quit without really trying, their ability to win this race may come down to poor planning.

This task is just a lot of physical labor, specifically the carrying of buckets of water from the sea. This seems to be bad news for the one female who chose to do this task (and apparently does not have sunscreen with her), but for all the focus over this, she does not seem to fall too far behind.

The next road block requires teams to build and fly a giant kite. Whoever did not perform the first one must do this.

Road block (in order of arrival): Ashley, Korey, Brodie, Sheri, Dana, Zach

The pit stop for this leg of the race is Phinisi, a traditional Indonesian sail boat.

First: Tyler & Korey (win $5,000 each)
Second: Burnie & Ashley
Third: Sheri & Cole
Fourth: Dana & Matt
Fifth: Brodie & Kurt
Eliminated: Zach & Rachel

In a footrace (on boats), Brodie & Kurt narrowly survive their stupid decision to use the express pass last week, but in the end, Zach & Rachel have been eliminated because of a bad road block choice.

The Amazing Race 28 Episode 8

Posted by Shane on Friday, April 15, 2016 at 11:38 pm

It looked like they might be saved by other teams making really bad decisions, but in the end of The Amazing Race 28 Episode 7, Scott & Blair found themselves eliminated in a footrace after a simple mistake of grabbing the wrong bag due to lack of communication.

Teams depart in the order in which they arrived.

First: Zach & Rachel - 10:39PM
Second: Burnie & Ashley - 10:42PM
Third: Brodie & Kurt - 10:45PM
Fourth: Dana & Matt - 10:52PM
Fifth: Sheri & Cole - 11:21PM
Sixth: Tyler & Korey - 1:17AM

Teams must now fly to Dubai, United Arab Emirates. All teams are on the same flight.

The detour is a choice between races or oasis. In races, teams must ride bicycles and race against camels. In oasis, teams must lead camels across the desert.

Races: Tyler & Korey, Brodie & Kurt, Sheri & Cole
Oasis: Dana & Matt, Burnie & Ashley (switched from races), Zach & Rachel (switched from races)

Working against animals seems logically the better choice than working with them, but camels are faster than they look, though failure will allow teams to get a head start the next time that just about guarantees them a win. Burnie & Ashley only try once before she falls apart, and Rachel didn’t even want to try this anyway.

The road block requires teams to swim with the sharks at Aquaventure.

Road block (in order of arrival): Brodie, Burnie, Matt, Korey, Zach, Cole

The initial part of the road block is simple enough but scary, but then they have to get puzzle pieces in a bottle to fall into the corresponding grooves. Rather than making much effort and despite being in first place with nobody else in sight, Brodie & Kurt decide to use the express pass. Everybody else struggles but gets it eventually. Dana comments that she felt like she might start to melt down because she is that kind of person. You don’t say.

Before proceeding, teams will need to go down Poseidon’s Revenge, a water slide that is twice as long as the Leap of Faith, which Mika refused to do in season 15 and was eliminated as a result.

The pit stop for this leg of the race is Old Souq Station. Having made it through the road block without her meltdown, now’s the time for more of Dana, calling a very calm Matt names and yelling at him for no reason. She threatens to quit the race if he’s going to act like this (like a punching bag?). Well, that would really be too much to ask. After much whining and unnecessary drama, she gets back in the car.

First: Brodie & Kurt (win a trip to Helsinki, Finland)
Second: Burnie & Ashley
Third: Tyler & Korey
Fourth: Zach & Rachel
Fifth: Dana & Matt
Non-eliminated: Sheri & Cole

Already in dead last, Sheri & Cole then get lost, leading to a predictable result, despite the editing suggesting that Dana is at her breaking point (again). They survived the to be continued leg in last, and now Sheri & Cole have been saved by non-elimination.

The Amazing Race 28 Episode 7

Posted by Shane on Friday, April 8, 2016 at 11:54 pm

Since it was a to be continued leg, aside from perhaps Brodie & Kurt winning the express pass, nothing of much consequence happened in The Amazing Race 28 Episode 6.

All teams must take the midnight train to Tbilisi, Georgia.

The detour is a choice between clean and string. In clean, teams must clean a giant clay wine pot. In string, teams must make churchkhela candy.

String: Brodie & Kurt, Zach & Rachel, Burnie & Ashley, Scott & Blair
Clean: Sheri & Cole, Tyler & Korey (switched from string), Dana & Matt (switched from string to clean to string to clean)

There are only four candy stations, which is a problem for all the trailing teams who wanted to do string. Dana & Matt give up their spot because they don’t want to wait around, which convinces Scott & Blair to stick around and basically guarantee themselves last place, or so it seems.

Until Dana & Matt drive and drive and eventually give up and tell their cab driver to take them back to where they started. Then Tyler & Korey quit the task after two teams have finished and go to the other one. Meeting them on the way there and hearing how hard it is, Dana & Matt switch again, at this point still not having attempted to do any task. Despite all this, Scott & Blair still somehow arrive last at the next task.

The road block requires teams to learn ballet at the national theater, which seems easy for the lead teams, but the trailing teams just fall further behind.

Road block (in order of arrival): Zach, Ashley, Kurt, Sheri, Dana, Korey, Scott

Then one last bit of drama when Blair takes her bag and her father’s bag without telling him, leading to him grabbing Tyler’s bag before realizing it and having to run back to a frantic but now also finished with the road block Tyler & Korey. They’re so close now that it’s going to come down to a footrace or cab ride.

The pit stop for this leg of the race is the Bridge of Peace.

First: Zach & Rachel (win a trip to Turks and Caicos)
Second: Burnie & Ashley
Third: Brodie & Kurt
Fourth: Dana & Matt
Fifth: Sheri & Cole
Sixth: Tyler & Korey
Eliminated: Scott & Blair

Tyler & Korey nearly threw the leg away, but somehow Scott & Blair managed to mess up more and have been eliminated.

The Amazing Race 28 Episode 6

Posted by Shane on Saturday, April 2, 2016 at 12:46 am

Having struggled the most at the road block, Erin & Joslyn really had no chance to catch up in The Amazing Race 28 Episode 5 and were eliminated.

Teams depart in the order in which they arrived.

First: Tyler & Korey - 5:28AM
Second: Brodie & Kurt - 5:35AM
Third: Dana & Matt - 5:48AM
Fourth: Scott & Blair - 6:08AM
Fifth: Zach & Rachel - 6:18AM
Sixth: Burnie & Ashley - 6:37AM
Seventh: Sheri & Cole - 6:38AM

Teams must now fly to Yerevan, Armenia. All teams are on the same flight with tasks not starting until the 8AM hours of operation.

Their first task is to search a theater for clues, which it turns out aren’t so much hidden as being held by the guy vacuuming, who at first glance probably just seems like another distraction. Only Dana & Matt are smart enough to quietly take their clue and move on, but still, some teams are left searching despite everybody being so obvious about it.

The detour is a choice between thread or bread. In thread, teams must complete a row of stitches on a carpet. In bread, teams must bake lavash.

Bread: Brodie & Kurt, Burnie & Ashley
Thread: Sheri & Cole, Dana & Matt, Zach & Rachel, Tyler & Korey, Scott & Blair

It doesn’t seem as if either detour serves much of an advantage.

The road block requires teams to perform an oil change at a “garage” on the side of the road.

Road block (in order of arrival): Kurt, Sheri, Burnie, Zach, Matt, Scott, Tyler

Only two people are allowed on the ramp at once, removing or at least reducing the ability for teams that are behind to catch up. But there is hope for the trailing teams. Sheri is tying up one of the ramps by herself, so they can just keep leapfrogging her as the other one is free. Tyler goes so far as to help the teams in front of him just go get a space.

The pit stop for this leg of the race is the Temple of Garni.

First: Brodie & Kurt (win express pass)
Second: Burnie & Ashley
Third: Zach & Rachel
Fourth: Dana & Matt
Fifth: Scott & Blair
Sixth: Tyler & Korey
Seventh: Sheri & Cole

The next leg starts right away, so Sheri & Cole survive.

The Amazing Race 28 Episode 5

Posted by Shane on Saturday, March 12, 2016 at 1:35 am

The very silly ending in The Amazing Race 28 Episode 4 saw eight teams arrive on the mat at the same time with only Brittany & Jessica on the train behind them being eliminated when they finally made it to see Phil.

Teams depart in the order in which they arrived.

First: Brodie & Kurt - 10:46AM
Second: Tyler & Korey - 10:47AM
Third: Dana & Matt - 10:48AM
Fourth: Burnie & Ashley - 10:49AM
Fifth: Zach & Rachel - 10:50AM
Sixth: Erin & Joslyn - 10:51AM
Seventh: Sheri & Cole - 10:52AM
Eighth: Scott & Blair - 10:53AM

Teams must search the streets for a license plate to find their transportation, which means they aren’t going very far. At least in this case, they are all bunched together, so the tasks will determine the outcome, not the departure order, or at least that’s my initial theory.

After making their way up a mountain, they have to zipline to their next clue. The detour is a choice between dynamite and campsite. In dynamite, teams must deliver explosives and lunch to the workers across the mountain. In campsite, teams must pitch a tent.

Dynamite: Brodie & Kurt, Tyler & Korey, Dana & Matt, Zach & Rachel, Scott & Blair, Erin & Joslyn, Sheri & Cole
Campsite: Burnie & Ashley

It basically comes down to a scary task or one that requires attention to detail, and scary typically equates to better. This proves to be the case here, as the camping task is far inferior, pushing the only team to do it into second to last place, only ahead of Sheri & Cole who debated and finally reluctantly decided to do the other task. If Sheri hadn’t talked Cole into it, they would be in dead last instead of now just about tied.

The road block requires teams to paraglide, launching from more than 7000 feet, and correctly answer a very simple question about what they’ve seen when they are finished.

Road block (in order of arrival): Brodie, Korey, Matt, Rachel, Blair, Erin, Ashley, Sheri

Here they have to wait for good enough wind, and if they fall, they have to wait and try again.

The pit stop for this leg of the race is the Dr. Paccard Statue, which honors the man who first conquered the summit of Mont Blanc.

First: Tyler & Korey (win a trip to Philippines)
Second: Brodie & Kurt
Third: Dana & Matt
Fourth: Scott & Blair
Fifth: Zach & Rachel
Sixth: Burnie & Ashley
Seventh: Sheri & Cole
Eliminated: Erin & Joslyn

The road block provided for some amazing sights but a predictable ending. After Erin falls too many times, Erin & Joslyn have been eliminated. Perhaps they would have survived if they didn’t waste time earlier searching for lunch for the detour before finally realizing that it was the baguettes they had grabbed before heading up the mountain.

With March Madness coming up, the next episode will not air until April 1.

Stay tuned to dingoRUE for another recap of The Amazing Race 28 Episode 6, which airs Friday at 8/7c on CBS.
