Despite losing 10 pounds last week, Neil was the last person to be eliminated in The Biggest Loser 4 Episode 14, completing what red and blue teams started several weeks ago: their own destruction. Even though they were obviously the weakest team, the black team played this game smarter than the other teams. That gameplay has left us with a final four of all black team members: Bill Germanakos, Julie Hadden, Isabeau Miller, and Hollie Self.

Amy’s still happy she stabbed Kim in the back.

Neil’s faced mixed reactions, largely negative, about what he did the week he gained 17 pounds and says it obviously wasn’t his proudest moment from the show.

The 14 eliminated contestants will weigh in one last time for a prize of $100,000.

Amber: 211 pounds (-84, 28.47%)
Lezlye: 200 pounds (-55, 21.57%)
Jerry: 187 pounds (-110, 37.04%)
Patty: 216 pounds (-64, 22.86%)
Jim: 175 pounds (-186, 51.52%)
Phil: 258 pounds (-145, 35.98%)
Jez: 195 pounds (-150, 43.48%)
David: 228 pounds (-140, 38.04%)
Ryan: 241 pounds (-133, 35.56%)
Amy: 171 pounds (-126, 42.42%)
Kae: 128 pounds (-97, 43.11%)
Bryan: 224 pounds (-122, 35.26%)
Nicole: 174 pounds (-105, 37.63%)
Neil: 210 pounds (-211, 50.12%)

Once we saw Jim’s numbers, it became pretty obvious what the results of this were going to be. Like his brother, he kicked ass. That said, the others put up some impressive numbers as well. Neil lost over half his body weight, too. Amber, who was ready to quit week one, put up decent numbers considering her short stay on campus. Jerry’s very inspirational for a 62 year old. Kae did quite well, but since she started out at such a relatively low weight to begin with, there was only so far she could push. Amy, despite being perhaps the whiniest contestant of the season, also put up strong numbers.

Next month, Julie will be speaking in front of Congress about what she’s learned on the show. Hollie’s moved to LA as part of a whole new healthy lifestyle. Isabeau is now a personal trainer.

Now it’s time for the final four to weigh in. All of them look impressive, but I think we all know what’s going to happen here. At least we can hope anyway. Any chance of getting through four whole weigh ins without commercial interruptions?

Isabeau: 185 pounds (-113, 37.92%)

So apparently no. We can only get through one weigh in before going to a commercial.

Hollie: 150 pounds (-105, 41.18%)
Julie: 121 pounds (-97, 44.50%)

And of course one more commercial still.

Bill: 170 pounds (-164, 49.10%)

As we could have expected, Bill is the winner of The Biggest Loser 4. Finally an episode with a good ending.

Survivor: China Winner

Survivor: Fiji Winner
Survivor: Micronesia Winner

One of the more hardcore players of the season, Peih-Gee, finally got the boot in Survivor: China Episode 13. Now we’re down to the final four: Todd Herzog, Amanda Kimmel, Courtney Yates, and Denise Martin. At this point, we’re basically just coming down to the end of the Todd and Amanda show. I can’t imagine a scenario in which either of the other two win, and I hope the jury doesn’t get stupid all of a sudden and give them the win for doing nothing (but not for lack of opportunity). Now it’s just a question of whether Todd or Amanda can get rid of the other one to boost their own chances.

The reward challenge is for food (pizza, beer, soda, and brownies), much to everyone’s delight. It’s a mini Great Wall, a comination obstacle course and puzzle. They must climb down the wall then build a bridge. Todd and Amanda are the first to complete the bridge. The others are out of it. They’ll then grab the puzzle pieces and bring them up the wall. In this more physical part of the challenge, Todd manages to get a bit of a lead. Courtney finishes the bridge and has some prayer. Denise, well, she finally finishes her bridge… eventually. Amanda’s the first to finish the puzzle and wins reward.

Jeff gives her a choice. It’s a serving for one (it’s a whole pizza, a few beers, a pitcher of soda, and a few brownies… but okay, we’ll go with the serving for one theory). She can either keep it that way or invite one or two people to come along with her. She decides to bring Todd with her. I don’t think she really needs to have any more security than that, although Courtney certainly has the potential to be a bitter juror.

She says she picked him because she doesn’t trust him at all. This is rather an odd alliance. Nobody trusts Todd, yet they continue to work with him, up to and including doing as he tells them to do. For some reason, not only does she tell us she doesn’t trust him. She tells him, too. He swears that he’ll take her no matter what.

Denise complains about not getting picked all the time or being picked last. She’s had chances to change her fate in the game, but she’s refused and has been content to just stay on this same course.

Todd’s telling everybody what they want to hear. It’s hard to tell what’s true. What we do know is he just wants someone other than himself to be sent home. That and he’s really paranoid.

After a walk down memory lane, it’s time for the final immunity challenge (yeah, the lame final three instead of final two is still alive). The challenge is to balance dishes on the end of a wooden arm. A plate and a bowl go on first, followed by another plate. They keep adding dishes as time goes by. It’s unclear what length of time they’ve got between dishes, but it doesn’t appear like it’s a lot (about 30 seconds). Still, this is a combination of a relatively brief endurance challenge along with having to be extremely still and focused. Todd’s the first to show any sign of weakness and is the first person to be eliminated. With the next dish, Courtney and Denise are struggling. Amanda, who seems to be doing fine, thinks outside the box and places a dish in the way she thinks will give her an advantage, rather than the way everybody else is. Courtney’s out on this dish. Denise wants to make a deal. Amanda’s not interested. On the next dish, Denise is out. Amanda wins immunity.

Denise feels like she’s on the outside (still), so she approaches Amanda. With a sob story.

Todd pitches the vote out Denise plan to Amanda and Courtney. Both appear to be onboard. He reiterates that he’d be proud to lose to Amanda, whereas he’d be pissed if he lost to Denise. Amanda promises Denise she won’t vote for her tonight. She’s afraid of going up against Todd, who’s played the game quite well. Courtney’s more concerned that Denise will get sympathy votes.

At tribal council, Denise brings up the theory of sympathy votes. James laughs. Courtney tells us how she’s sucked at the game and doesn’t have the best personality. Amanda denies having told Denise she still has her back. For some reason, Todd takes the time to make a comment, one that is potentially a dangerous one, about this.

Denise

She had the chance to force a tie two weeks ago, and she had the chance to flip with Amanda and Peih-Gee last week. Denise being fourth out of this group was something everybody else saw coming a mile away.

At this point, Courtney’s only usefulness is if she can steal a vote or two (perhaps Frosti’s). Todd’s played the game well. Perhaps too well. Everybody knew what he was doing, but none of them acted on it. Has he pissed off too many people, or will they reward him for playing the game? Then there’s Amanda. She’s played just as smart as Todd, often times smarter. But her gameplay has been much stealthier. She probably doesn’t have as many enemies, but have people taken as much notice of what she’s done?

When they get back to camp, Amanda confronts Todd about what happened at tribal council. She feels awful because she helped him get to the final three. He apologizes, but she doesn’t believe it.

Amanda’s opening comments are about her strategy and an apology for voting against some people who didn’t think she was going to vote for them. Todd’s speech is about how he played the game, whether he backstabbed them or not. Courtney says she had no strategy and no idea what she was doing but plays up that she didn’t get voted out right away as she expected.

James is up first. He just asks about the good times they’ve had in the game. Courtney goes back to the first challenge, where she realized she wouldn’t be the first person voted out. He tells Jeff he asked this question because it’s going to get ugly with some of the more bitter members of the jury.

Jean-Robert’s upset he’s stuck choosing between these three. He says he hasn’t made up his mind yet. Courtney tells him she came from the worst odds. He confronts Amanda about telling him she wouldn’t put his name on a ballot. She denies that it was a lie but that she couldn’t not vote for him because everybody else was going to. He doesn’t understand why Todd got rid of him. Todd says he wanted to get rid of Jean-Robert because he was his biggest strategic threat. James is amused because this shuts Jean-Robert up.

Peih-Gee wants to know what Todd did to get to the end, and he responds that he did play strategically from day one. Peih-Gee doesn’t like that it looks like Amanda’s setting Todd up as the bad guy and wants to know what she actually did. Her response is that it was her idea to get rid of James.

Erik’s question is to Amanda about her riskiest move. She again brings up James, and that this was risky because if it backfired, she would have lost Todd.

Frosti confronts Todd about lying all the time. Todd apologizes. Then he confronts Courtney for blindsiding him, which he didn’t expect.

Courtney tells Jaime she doesn’t need to air Todd’s dirty laundry because everybody already knows. She’s unable to commit to whether Todd deserves to win more than she does. Todd says Courtney just went along with him and didn’t want to be there in the first place. Amanda feels Courtney is ungrateful and didn’t put her heart into anything. She feels Todd should have played better to where he didn’t lie too much. Todd responds that he did the dirty work for the nice girl.

Denise gives them a lecture about lying being bad. She respects Courtney for being honest, whatever that’s about. She’s making about as much sense now as she did when she was still in the game.

Jaime votes for Todd because of his jury answers. Erik votes for Amanda because he likes her at least attempting to be honest and feels she played the best game. Denise votes for Courtney because she apparently always tried to tell her the truth.

Looks like the story from last month was right. Todd wins Survivor: China. Despite some slip ups (his arrogance in booting off Jean-Robert rather than James was just playing with fire), Todd definitely played the game well and is one of the people who made sure this season didn’t suck for a change. Amanda set herself up for the loss by agreeing to take him with her. How the bloody hell did Courtney get more votes than Amanda? Pitiful. But at least for the first time since the final three twist was implemented we don’t have a person with no votes. That was starting to get really old.

Todd tells Jean-Robert he just played him by stroking his ego hoping it would work.

Denise thought her best chance was to win the final four immunity (not sure what gave her that thought) and then take Amanda and Courtney with her. The straw that broke the camel’s back was apparently that she couldn’t vote against Todd but may have considered it if Peih-Gee was willing to get rid of Courtney instead. This explains her vote for Courtney. She never felt she was in an alliance with her to begin with, whereas she felt the other two stabbed her in the back.

Courtney mostly gets recognized by tourists and kids, who she doesn’t like. She went from 93 pounds down to 86 pounds. Obviously, she’s not going to acknowledge having an eating disorder, which is still going to be a rumor regardless of what she says.

Jean-Robert loves the way he played the game. For some reason. He believes his poker playing has improved following this show.

Denise has gone from being the lunch lady to being the janitor. They claimed she was too distracting. She reveals the reason she has a mullet is because she needed short hair for work but still wanted to look like a woman.

Jaime and Erik are dating now. Obviously, Jeff wants to know if he’s still a virgin, and he says of course.

Ashley’s had support from her fans, regardless of being voted out second.

Leslie believes her mouth got her in trouble, not her religion.

Chicken’s happy he went first (so was I) because if he wasn’t going to get the money going first was the best thing.

Like back when Rupert was so popular, we’ve got another giveaway. This time it’s $100,000. The three top people are Denise, James, and Peih-Gee. Obviously, the winner of the public vote is James.

In addition, Mark Burnett has offered Denise $50,000, having heard her story earlier.

That wraps up Survivor: China. For a change, I’m not walking away from this one with a bad taste in my mouth. Yes, there are still a couple of particularly lame twists that I’d like to see die, but with improved casting and vastly improved tactical gameplay, this has been one of the better Survivors I’ve seen in a while.

Survivor 16 is a half stars edition, featuring lifelong fans (good… enough of the people who have never seen Survivor before) going against people from prior seasons, including at least one person from this season. Survivor: Micronesia will be dubbed Fans Vs. Favorites. It will premiere in its usual timeslot on February 7, the week leading up to the premieres of Big Brother 9 and Jericho Season 2. As always, stay tuned to dingoRUE for live recaps.

The Amazing Race Asia 2 Episode 4

Brett & Kinaryosih hit a wall in The Amazing Race Asia 2 Episode 3 and were eliminated. Terri’s angry outbursts at Henry didn’t seem to harm them any, but Sophie’s hatred of Aurelia helped them get second to last, 8 hours behind the first place team.

Teams depart in the order in which they arrived.

First: Rovilson & Marc (6:30am)
Second: Adrian & Collin (7:40am)
Third: Ann & Diane (7:46am)
Fourth: Paula & Natasha (7:48am)
Fifth: Terri & Henry (8:25am)
Sixth: Daichi & Sawaka (8:30am)
Seventh: Vanessa & Pamela (8:55am)
Eighth: Sophie & Aurelia (2:45pm)

Teams must drive to Rotorua, best known for being the Thermal Wonderland of New Zealand, via the Tirau Caltex (okay, we get it already… Caltex is a sponsor).

Marc & Rovilson’s friendly banter this time is about the division of labor and reminding Marc to stay on the right side of the road. Adrian & Collin discuss that they’re at a slight disadvantage in terms of communicating navigational directions while driving.

While at the Caltex, Henry scratches Ann & Diane’s car while backing out. It’s not readily apparent who’s to blame here, though it could be argued regardless of any bad parking the others may have done, it was still Henry’s responsibility for hitting them.

After refueling at Caltex (did I mention they went to a Caltex?), teams will go to Okere Falls Scenic Reserve, home to New Zealand’s most famous river, the Kaituna, where they will go sledging (whitewater rafting using only boogie boards)… in New Zealand… in the middle of winter. Despite being a Navy man, Henry doesn’t want anything to do with the water.

The next stop is Lake Tikitapu (the Blue Lake), where they will find marked agrojet boats that they’ll have to navigate through a course. One team member will navigate, while the other drives. Like the previous task, it doesn’t appear there will be a great deal of difficulty with this one. Daichi is the only one to get it on the first try, though.

The road block is at Hell’s Gate mud bath. They’ll search through the hot mud, which smells like rotten eggs, for their next clue. Like Rob & Brennan, who won The Amazing Race 1 in the US, Marc & Rovilson are rotating, so Marc gets stuck doing the road block.

Road block (in the order in which they got the clue): Marc, Collin, Paula, Daichi, Ann, Henry, Pamela

The detour is a choice between flax and stick. In flax, teams must make a tipare, a Maori headband made from flax. In stick, teams must learn the titi torea (stick game), where they’ll toss sticks back and forth to each other in beat to music without dropping them.

Flax: Marc & Rovilson, Paula & Natasha, Terry & Henry (switched from flax to stick, then back to flax)
Stick: Adrian & Collin, Daichi & Sawaka, Ann & Diane (smart enough to ask a local what’s more difficult), Vanessa & Pamela

Everybody else is able to do the road blocks, despite the fact that they may be somewhat complicated. However, Terri & Henry both refuse to do the flax. He begs her to switch to sticks, but she tells him she won’t do that either. She reluctantly agrees to switch but doesn’t make it easy. While there, they again switch back to flax because it’s something he can do himself while she sits in the corner and pouts. Ultimately, though, she does have to help him with one step he’s not sure about, and they do eventually finish. They’re just lucky Aurelia & Sophie are ridiculously far behind.

Teams must make their way to the Pohutu Geyser, the pitstop for this leg of the race, where they will be welcomed with a traditional Maori greeting (a guy with a stick suddenly screaming at them). It’s pretty obvious who’s coming in last here. Now it’s just a question of whether they’ll be eliminated or not.

First: Marc & Rovilson (win Sony HD handicams)
Second: Adrian & Collin
Third: Paula & Natasha
Fourth: Ann & Diane
Fifth: Daichi & Sawaka
Sixth: Pamela & Vanessa
Seventh: Henry & Terri
Eighth: Aurelia & Sophie (eliminated)

As with the previous elimination, Aurelia & Sophie hit an hours of operation problem. They don’t even get to attempt the first task. Not that getting gas in the car didn’t prove challenging enough for them. Both of them blame each other for the loss.

Stay tuned to dingoRUE for another recap of The Amazing Race Asia 2 episode 5, and don’t forget our live blogs of The Amazing Race 12.

Survivor: China Episode 13

Peih-Gee won immunity to keep herself alive in Survivor: China Episode 12. Unable to convince an admittedly outcast Denise to get rid of Todd, Erik ended up going home as could have been expected.

The reward challenge involves a replica of an early Chinese repeating crossbow. Each contestant gets arrows and must decide who to give them to (anybody but themselves), then they’ll shoot the arrows they get and try to connect with targets containing their name.

Peih-Gee: 1 arrow
Todd: 6 arrows
Denise: 2 arrows
Courtney: 12 arrows
Amanda: 4 arrows

Pretty telling results.

Peih-Gee misses with her only arrow.
Denise connects once.
Amanda hits Denise twice to give her the lead at 3.
Todd scores 5.
Courtney hits herself, Denise, Amanda, Todd, Denise two more times, Todd, and Denise twice more.

Denise wins reward. Because Courtney gave her the reward (albeit accidentally), she chooses her. She’s given the offer to choose another person and decides against Peih-Gee because she says she doesn’t want her to get stronger (but not quietly enough for Peih-Gee to not overhear). Peih-Gee’s clearly upset. Amanda’s left out as well, as Denise picks Todd. The reward is a trip to the Great Wall of China.

While back at camp, Peih-Gee and Amanda take the time to start building a relationship. Todd’s pretty confident Amanda will get over not being taken because he doesn’t think she has any options but to stick with him. Courtney’s also happy with the decision because she’s more afraid of Todd than Amanda.

Amanda tells Peih-Gee she’s open to switching things up. Todd’s also pondering it, and he poses the question whether it would be a good idea to take out Amanda if Peih-Gee wins immunity again. Denise doesn’t know where she stands with Todd.

When they get back from reward, Todd and Courtney are complaining about the food. Neither Peih-Gee nor Amanda are pleased with this.

Amanda doesn’t trust a word Todd says because he’s willing to do whatever it takes to win.

The immunity challenge is a combination of previous challenges. The first round is throwing stars. Peih-Gee scores 2. Denise scores 6. Amanda scores 3. Courtney scores 2. Todd scores 1 and is out. Next is eating balut. Amanda finishes first. Peih-Gee finishes second. Courtney finishes third. Denise is unable to finish as she was the first time and is out. The next round is bouncing a ball on a drum. Amanda finishes first. Peih-Gee finishes second. Courtney is out. The final round is knot cutting/puzzle solving. Amanda gets her puzzle pieces first. Peih-Gee never manages to catch up, and Amanda wins immunity.

If they’re gonna shake things up, now’s the time to do it, and I think most of them are smart enough to realize it. The only question is whether they’re willing to act on it, or just take the easy road and get rid of Peih-Gee.

Amanda pitches the idea of getting rid of Todd to Denise. They’re both considering it but not convincingly behind it. Todd will be pissed off if he gets blindsided, but he’s in this as a player, so he seems like he would understand.

Once again, Peih-Gee’s very vocal at tribal council, letting her feelings about Todd and Courtney be known.

Like her or not, Peih-Gee’s played this game aggressively from the beginning, but the numbers have finally caught up with her. I wouldn’t have wanted to face her in the end either. If nothing else came from this episode, Amanda just secured herself another jury vote.

Stay tuned to dingoRUE for another live recap of Survivor: China episode 14 A Slippery Little Sucker, to be followed by the reunion show, where we will find out who the winner is, which airs Sunday at 8-11/7-10c on CBS.

America’s Next Top Model 9 Winner

Following Bianca’s elimination last week, we were left with the final three: Jenah, Chantal, and Saleisha. Tonight we find out who the winner of America’s Next Top Model’s 9th cycle is.

After complaining about the show putting too much emphasis on personality, Jenah is the first one to be eliminated of the three.

Miss Jay and Twiggy go with Chantal. Nigel goes with Saleisha. Tyra weighs in and decides. And the winner is… Saleisha.

Cycle 10 will be returning midseason, and after tonight’s finale is the premiere of Crowned, which they will be very aggressively pushing multiple nights a week in an effort to establish another highly female-oriented reality show.

Kid Nation Episode 13

The council left town as instructed by the pioneers, leaving Sheriff Sophia in charge in Kid Nation Episode 12. Contrary to everybody’s fear, Sophia turned out to be a good leader, surely better than Greg and Blaine. As the finale approached, the kids were left to think about how little time they have left and how they shouldn’t waste it playing in the arcade all day.

The episode starts with Mike wandering around at daybreak unable to sleep because he’s reflecting on all the good times they’ve had and the fact that they may never see each other again. As he’s walking, he notices the job board… on fire. For some reason, they all decide to play firefighters, even if it is pretty obvious that somebody had to have set the fire and that nothing else is in any danger of catching fire from it. Jared grabs a tin cup and fills it with water to assist.

Jonathan comes out to tell them the fire was on purpose and that things are about to change a lot. The kids want him to burn the journal as well. They interpret this as an okay to raid the stores and all get massive sugar rushes. Zach and DK are the voices of reason and are disgusted. At dinner, the town council makes a pitch to rebuild tomorrow after the chaos of the day.

Since the job board’s gone, there’s no showdown, but there is a reward. It’s the last $20,000 gold star, which will be awarded now. Guylan suggests Mike. Laurel suggests Sophia should get another gold star because she just works that hard. After discussing it amongst themselves, the council decides that Zach should be awarded the gold star, a well deserved acknowledgement of what he’s done this season.

Yellow district girls want to spend the last night together. Emily’s not having it and wants to fight. Migle takes control and patches things up between them.

There are no $20,000 gold stars, but there are still $50,000 gold stars, three of them.

They must first earn them as a town. They will be throwing a bonanza to celebrate what they’ve done. They’re given one hour to clean the town from top to bottom. First, they need to cook dinner, making pasta from scratch. Zach’s happy to have the microwave, a prize much of the town was upset with originally, to help heat up the sauce. The next step is to build picnic tables. The final task is to bury the trash. They finish this with two minutes left but need to get back to the bell before ringing it. Greg and Blaine carry DK, who is having difficulty with his legs, back to the bell, and they arrive just in time to win the reward.

Also at the party will be their families, who they haven’t seen in 39 days. It’s a very emotional reunion for all. After the party, it’s time to pack up and head to the final town council meeting.

Sophia apologizes if she’s bossed around, screamed at, or offended anyone, but she’s really the most obvious person to get one of the gold stars because she did it to help the town.

The first two gold stars will go to previous gold star winners. The third one will go to anybody.

Sophia wins the first gold star because of her leadership and hard work. Morgan wins the second gold star because she’s been the mother figure of the group. The final gold star goes to Migle for the improvement she’s made as time has gone on and for her kindness. I was expecting this when she went from nearly invisible to a standout character in the past couple episodes.

Following the meeting, it’s time to say goodbye to Bonanza City.

Based on the show’s poor ratings, it’s unlikely we’ll end up seeing a Kid Nation 2, which is too bad because it’s a good concept. However, in the event of a prolonged strike, there may be hope yet. It probably just makes more sense to shop around and get Disney to pick this up, though.
