Big Brother 16 Episode 31

Caleb won HOH in Big Brother 16 Episode 30. Then there was a tornado warning. Then when we returned, two more girls were on the block. The tornado warning (issued four minutes after an EF0 tornado briefly struck basically one neighborhood… awesome early warning system) was one of the rare unexpected moments so far this season.

Caleb’s target is Nicole, but Derrick would rather see Christine go home. The secondary target is Victoria, who can’t win either a competition or the game in general.

For her part, Christine’s talking tough and saying she won’t nominate Victoria next week. She’s kind of stuck, though, because not only is she not a key part of either side of the alliance, but the girls don’t like her either.

Everybody other than Frankie will play in the veto competition. They will cut wires based on videos, following instructions such as cut the first striped wire shown. Cody is the first one blown up, and he gets to dress like a dinosaur for a week, which backfired on BB because I’m not sure they want him that clothed. Everybody is correct on the next one. Caleb drops next. Then Victoria. Everybody is safe again, and they all seem to be guessing by this point. Derrick and Nicole both blow up, and Christine wins the power of veto.

Undeterred by that plan being completely out the window, Derrick still does not want Nicole to go home. He needs to think about who his other target is. Aside from Victoria, his only other option is Frankie. Luckily for him, he’s been feeding Caleb about that for the past few days, and the fact that Frankie went right up to Christine after the competition helps. Derrick doesn’t even need to say anything. Caleb starts the post-challenge conversation. All he was whispering is how great he would have done in that competition, but it’s not like the content of what he said is relevant. Cody still finds a way to somehow make it a big deal.

Nicole tells Derrick that he’s the closest thing to Dan Gheesling she has seen. I’m not sure that’s a fair comparison, though he is this season’s smoothest operator, but it is enough to scare Derrick. He doesn’t want everybody else to think the same way. So he goes to Caleb to make a case for getting rid of Nicole. Not at all suspicious.

At the veto ceremony, Christine removes herself from the block. Her replacement nominee is Victoria.

Big Brother 16 Episode 30

Following Donny’s eviction in Big Brother 16 Episode 29, the house began an endurance competition for HOH.

Frankie’s attempts to save his fellow Team America member did not stay on his side of the house. Cody told Nicole she was his target. Now this is exactly as Frankie feared. He needed to get rid of her because she will target him before the rest.

It goes without saying that Victoria is useless in this competition. Derrick is about as bad off as she is. Eventually, he just gives up and decides to go for the money instead, which he wins because he’s racing against himself. He also gets the stupid hollas that I’m sure somebody at CBS thought would be funny. The other four are competitive. Nicole eventually falls out of the race, so she starts giving Christine tips. Frankie had been in the lead for a while, but he has fallen behind Christine and Caleb. Caleb ends up winning, collapsing as he wins.

Meanwhile, there is a tornado warning (that apparently won’t actually hit anywhere) for the other side of the state. So I get to watch this weather windbag interrupt and keep repeating the same thing over and over and over again. And over and over and over. I got the point 15 minutes ago. Is it too much to ask that you put a banner on the bottom of the screen if you have no useful new information to report? So after all that, he says that the warning has been discontinued. Then he keeps talking. And talking. 25 minutes for him to tell everybody there is no threat.

I’m guessing there was some strategy talk during all that, though I don’t suspect it was particularly critical.

Nicole & Christine

Nicole was the obvious choice. Christine is surprised by being the second pick.

Big Brother 16 Episode 29

Continuing the tradition of more of the same, Cody won the power of veto in Big Brother 16 Episode 28 and kept Donny and Nicole on the block.

Nicole is bonding with Christine and to an extent Victoria as well. Unlike Donny, she has a social game. This is what makes her dangerous. Because they are in Team America, Derrick and Frankie are considering getting rid of her, but they need to get Caleb onboard first. Cody strongly opposes this idea.

Team America finds out the results of their mission. America hated the play idea. More specifically, no doubt, they hated the fact that Frankie and Derrick refused to go along with Donny’s ridiculous idea to give him a free pass. It probably didn’t help that Frankie’s idea of a mission was something he seemed to randomly give two seconds of thought toward.

Christine: Donny
Victoria: Donny
Frankie: Donny
Caleb: Donny
Derrick: Donny

By a vote of 5-0, Donny has been evicted from the Big Brother house. For the majority of the house, this is probably the right decision. The only people who really get screwed by this are his fellow Team America members, though they had no prayer of beating him if he were to make it to the end, despite the fact that he hasn’t done anything.

Donny had to resign his position as groundskeeper, which he prays he can get back. In the meantime, The Bold and The Beautiful has invited him to guest star.

The HOH competition is one of endurance, requiring them run back and forth on a slippery platform and transfer water from one side to a container on the other. If they wish to forgo HOH, they can fill the smaller one instead, which contains a reward/punishment chosen by America of 5000 dollas and 5000 hollas.

Big Brother 16 Episode 28

Cody won HOH and as usual made the predictable move of nominating Donny and Nicole in Big Brother 16 Episode 27.

The house continues to talk as if Donny is some sort of genius, literally. What he’s doing, yeah, that comes from his time in the military.

Team America’s mission: come up with their own mission. America will have to vote whether it’s a good one. Donny’s suggestion is to keep Team America together. Translation: don’t vote him out. If they’re looking to make $5k, this is a simple mission to succeed doing. If they are looking to get rid of someone who the jury house loves as much as America does, this is dumb to bother doing.

Victoria’s wisdom teeth are starting to come in. As I start thinking things like “she can use all the wisdom she can get”, she collapses in the bathroom. When you’re surrounded by people and dozens of cameras, how do they let you get to that stage? It’s not like this is Survivor. The producers have constant involvement in everything here.

Cody selects Christine at random to play in the veto competition, Nicole chooses Derrick, and Donny picks Frankie. Cody’s happy with these choices. Despite his ridiculous mission suggestion, Donny is not.

Frankie comes up with an equally stupid suggestion, but at least it should not impact the game any. He wants to put on a play.

The veto competition will have them counting (or at least guessing numbers of) various items. They predetermine that they will throw it to Frankie because he’s apparently good at counting.

Everybody other than Frankie and Donny fold in the first round as planned. Donny is closest to the actual answer, while the overconfident Frankie has been eliminated. Everybody in the house seems to believe there is an x in espresso, and as the only person who does not fold, Cody gets a point, which Nicole would have gotten had she stayed. In the next round, Cody again is the only person who does not fold. Once again in the next round, Cody is the only one who does not fold, and he wins the power of veto. He thanks them for handing it to him. Even the people who are not in his alliance sucked at this.

As a bit of an olive branch for having put them on the block and making them have nots, Cody invites Donny and Nicole to see an advance screening of the upcoming CBS show Scorpion.

There are two halves to this alliance, so now the half in power suggests striking first before the other half gets the chance next week. Yes, it seems that the other pair is Frankie and Caleb, the same duo that produced a very dramatic scene when one sat out of a competition in an effort to send the other home.

Cody chooses to keep the nominations as is because everybody wants Donny to be sent home.

Big Brother 16 Episode 27

Zach was voted out of the house in Big Brother 16 Episode 26, then Nicole won her way back inside, for lack of a better term.

Donny’s happy to see Nicole back in the house. That way, the other side will have a bigger target than him. He’s about the only one who can come up with a reason to be happy.

The HOH competition will have them punching to guess the days of events that have happened throughout the season. They will keep guessing (with guess being the key word) until they get the correct answer. Nicole is the first one eliminated. Well, that did not go quite as she had planned. Having somehow narrowly survived the first round, Victoria is eliminated next. Christine is eliminated in the third round. Caleb is the fourth one eliminated. Derrick is next. Cody beats Donny to win HOH. Despite being the runner up, Donny just guessed all the answers.

The safe bet is that it will be another boring week with Donny and Nicole being nominated. Still, Cody is talking about the alliance as if it has two sides, and then there’s Christine, who’s just sitting in the middle not doing much.

Nicole & Donny

For all the build up to this moment, the obvious ended up happening.

Big Brother 16 Episode 26

In a move that I can’t imagine does not ensure he’s going to lose the game, Frankie turned on his best friend in Big Brother 16 Episode 25 and nominated Zach for eviction against fellow alliance member Cody.

Zach needs 3 votes to stay, which is a tall order. The other side of the house has been decimated. Donny may be on his side, but Victoria thinks he’s a lunatic. He’ll have to swing people in his own alliance, who don’t trust him. To try to assist, Donny makes a convincing pitch to Christine, who’s been the outsider in that alliance since it started.

At the beginning of the season, Zach borrowed Victoria’s pink hat. He has been wearing it ever since then. In order to get even with him, she destroys it. Yeah, that’ll show him. Ruin your own property.

The battle of the block and double HOH twist has now ended. Take Team America with you.

Derrick: Zach
Christine: Zach
Donny: Zach
Caleb: Zach
Victoria: Zach

By a vote of 5-0, Zach has been evicted from the Big Brother house. He says it’s his own fault because he knows he can’t keep his mouth shut. It would be easy for him to be bitter, but he has nothing but praise for the people who turned on him. Rubbing salt in his wounds, Christine and Victoria foolishly rip apart a jury member.

Jocasta, Hayden, Nicole, and Zach will now have a chance to return to the game. Their challenge is to slide discs on to a spinning turntable, so pretty much any idiot can win this. Everybody scores in round 1 then again in the next round. Nicole falls in the third round. Everybody loses something in the fourth round except Jocasta. She retains the lead in the fifth round. Nicole, Zach, and Jocasta are tied after the sixth round. Jocasta and Nicole have the most discs after the final round, and as the person closest to the center, Nicole will be returning to the house.

Well, at least that’s a lot less lame than Jocasta returning, even if she also never did anything, despite being HOH three times.

Big Brother 16 Episode 25

The Detonators/Bomb Squad again failed to properly throw a competition in Big Brother 16 Episode 24, allowing Donny (who completely believably had no dud bones in the competition) to remove himself from the block while Caleb and Cody remain in danger.

Donny knows that Christine attempted to throw the competition. She found nothing, and even when he gave her one, she still found nothing.

Victoria is the planned replacement nominee. Their only other choice is loose cannon Zach, but that would require Frankie to personally turn on his on again off again showmance.

Team America’s mission seems lame but harmless. They must hide clothing from everyone and organize a neighborhood watch to prevent it from happening again. This should be simple enough.

Frankie selects Victoria at random to play in the veto competition, Cody chooses Donny, and Caleb selects Christine. This is about the worst luck of the draw possible.

Zingbot returns, and he is nice. His new word is props. For some reason, he has brought Kathy Griffin with him, and she’s there to be the mean one. Not necessary. She’s only supposed to zing people who are actually playing the game, which leaves Victoria out.

Now I understand the excuse for having Kathy here. The veto competition is to reboot Zingbot. They must correctly connect circuit boards, a maze of wires. Victoria’s useless as usual. The lights are out, and nobody’s home. Cody is only a slightly brighter bulb. Donny is doing well but gets stumped on the third box as Frankie and Caleb pass him. Frankie wants all the power, and he stays ahead of the surprisingly competent Beast Mode Cowboy to win the power of veto.

And Zingbot returns to tell Frankie he spends so much time in his sister’s shadow. As for Cody, he hasn’t made any enemies this summer… except for maybe Christine’s husband.

Everybody assumes Zach is the one hiding their stuff. He must be the saboteur. He’s been making so much trouble all season. Somehow, this gets Frankie to thinking about getting rid of him. Seriously? I thought this was a harmless prank, but now it’s potentially stupidly influencing the game. With these people, I wouldn’t put it past them.

The power of veto clearly will be used. The question is whether they get rid of the weakest player or the most unpredictable one. Frankie uses the veto on Caleb. In his place, Zach has been nominated. As easy as it is to blame Frankie for this, the stupid twist just blew up on America.

Big Brother 16 Episode 24

Nicole was predictably eliminated in Big Brother 16 Episode 23, right before power returned to The Detonators when Derrick and Frankie won HOH.

Thanks for not starting two hours late tonight, CBS.

Caleb is still under the impression there is a Bomb Squad. He’s probably the only person in the house who does not know that alliance died weeks ago.

Cody doesn’t like throwing competitions after it blew up last week. The problem last week was that they did not throw it. Caleb just sat down and pouted.

Derrick goes out of his way to make sure Victoria is safe for the week. Donny, however, will be going on the block. Frankie trusts Derrick completely (doesn’t anybody realize that everyone trusts Derrick completely?), so he’s willing to be removed from HOH and give Derrick control.

Team America’s next mission is to hide a favorite piece of clothing from each houseguest and organize a neighborhood watch. The lesser of the two evils by far, as it is not giving America any influence over the game.

For a change, there are no volunteers to go on the block, even though multiple people need to be nominated. Feeling he’s being attacked, Zach eventually volunteers, but then Derrick says he does not want him to do so. Their plan to resolve this: pick Skittles out of a hat. This is the most ridiculous nomination strategy I have seen.

Christine may be a married woman, but that’s not stopping her from flirting with Cody. She says this is all strategy. So why’s she keep running her hands through his hair?

Zach was so happy that he is not the target to be nominated, though he would have had a chance to save himself by being on the team not throwing the competition. If they have the chance to backdoor him, nobody will be too broken up about it.

Derrick’s Nominations
Donny & Christine

Frankie’s Nominations
Caleb & Cody

The plan is for Christine to throw this challenge, leaving herself and Donny in danger. Donny’s pretty sure everybody else must be working together, and their reassurrances are not helping.

In the battle of the block, they will search in a black box for bones. This should be pretty easy to throw. Nobody can see anything or whether someone is trying or not. Of course, that also means it’s not going to be a slam dunk for the other side either. On his own, Donny eventually manages to take the lead 3-2, then 4-3, as the other team falls behind with incorrect finds. By this point, he realizes she has thrown the competition. Then he finds the fifth and final one to win the battle of the block.

Yeah, I’m not at all suspicious that Caleb and Cody found multiple bones that did not fit into their slots, while every single bone Donny found was right.
