The Biggest Loser 5 Episode 14

After the girls managed to take the first and second spots in The Biggest Loser Couples Episode 13, the guys were forced to turn on one of their own, sending Dan packing.

Allison has good news for a change. The final five will be heading to Australia.

Ali knows how dangerous the brothers are, which is one reason I don’t understand the concept of not getting rid of Mark last week. With that in mind, she wants to make an alliance with Jay and Mark to take out Roger. Mark realizes that Roger’s the biggest threat, so he’s okay with this plan.

Bob and Jillian have participated in The Biggest Loser Australia for a while, and now they’re going to share the experience with their American contestants. The only problem with the travel is that they lose a day in the air.

The contestants participate in an aboriginal smoke ceremony to clear their minds and give them good luck. Forget your troubles. C’mon. Get happy.

Roger knows he’s a dead duck if he falls below the line with Jay or Mark.

Bob and Jillian take the contestants out for dinner and dancing in Sydney. They take them to Otto (a restaurant) to give them an example of how to order out in a restaurant that’s not Subway. The next day they take them shopping at a local market for fresh fruit, vegetables, and meats.

They get a visit from Adro, The Biggest Loser Australia 1 winner, who still looks great. He tells them it’s a life change and that it all starts at the finale, rather than ending there. He’s got a message from Allison: meet her on top of the Sydney Harbour Bridge.

Mark’s terrified of bridges. Jay’s facing up against his fear of heights again. They’re not jumping. Allison calls it the hardest challenge they’ve ever come up with. They’ll start the challenge in a jetboat. The next thing is to jump out and swim 300 meters. When they get to shore, they’ll race up a set of steps to some bikes, which they will ride to the entrance of the Botanical Gardens, which they will then run through and head up the Aurora Place Building, where they will climb 44 stories of stairs to find Allison. Ali gets off to a lead in the swimming part of the triathlon. She’s followed by Mark then Jay then Kelly then Roger. She knows that Mark’s right behind her and going to kill her in the next stages. The run to the bike is about 1/4 a mile, and Mark manages to catch her running up the stairs. Roger’s still in the water. Mark finally gains the lead on the first big turn on the bikes and builds on it from there. Kelly’s still quite a ways ahead of Roger by the time she hits the run, but he believes he can catch her while running. She’s still in fourth when they hit the stairs, but he passes her when they get about 1/3 of the way through the climb. Mark ends up beating Ali by about one floor, but instead of heading to Allison, he sits down on the stairs and waits for Ali so they can finish together. She picks him up and brings him across the finish line. They both get to call home and fly in a seaplane. Jay finishes third followed by Roger. They all walk to the stairs to support Kelly as she finishes.

The last chance workout is a big contrast. Jillian beats her girls on the beach, while the boys do yoga with Bob.

It’s time for the weigh-in.

Jay: 202 pounds (+1, -0.50%)
Ali: 146 pounds (-3, 2.01%)
Roger: 234 pounds (-2, 0.85%)
Kelly: 191 pounds (-1, 0.52%)
Mark: 182 pounds (+1, -0.55%)

Brutal week all around, though Ali continues strongly. It comes down to a decision as to which brother to get rid of. Jay wants to see Mark stay in the game and asks for the others to eliminate him.

Votes
Ali: Jay
Roger: Jay

Honoring Jay’s request, the house votes Jay out. The four who remain have lost 400 pounds. They’re heading back to campus without trainers. Jay is down 100 pounds from his starting weight of 293 pounds. He plans to do a 10K run to raise awareness for Beckwith-Wiedemann Syndrome, which his daughter has.

There’s only one show left before the live finale where we find out who the winner is. America will have their say as to which of the bottom two is allowed to be in the final three.

The Apprentice UK Series 4 Episode 2

Sir Alan Sugar returned for another round in the boardroom in The Apprentice UK Series 4 Episode 1. The guys quickly got divided into two sides, which remained the theme throughout the boardroom as well. Ultimately, Nicholas sunk himself through pricing errors, and being pompous in his defense didn’t help him any, so he was the first person to go home.

The teams get a video message from Sir Alan, who tells them they’ll start their own laundry business. They must pitch to get as much dirty laundry as possible, watch it, and return it cleaned.

Raef offers to be project manager for the boys, hoping to redeem himself from last week. Lee’s concerned Raef’s not a natural leader, and Ian’s concerned that Raef’s different than a lot of them. Still split down the middle I see.

Jenny steps up to be the PM for the girls. She seems to have more support than Raef does.

Simon has worked with some laundry equipment in the past, and to go along with that, the guys grab all of the ironing equipment in the house.

Jenny wants to prove she’s a salesperson, so she drones on and on for the first hour talking about sales. Sara’s getting tired of her. Margaret notices Jenny’s taking charge but has her favorites. As with the boys, some cliques are starting to form.

Half of Raef’s team will go door-to-door to hunt for dirty laundry. A few miles away, the girls are also doing the same thing.

The other half of the teams will be meeting businesses and go head-to-head to compete for the business. A large hotel is first. The guys call a laundry business to figure out what to charge. The girls just guess. The job is 1000 pieces of laundry. The manager normally pays £200. The girls bid £4.99 per item for a total of £4,999. On the contrary, the boys price it at £556. Still too expensive but a lot better than the girls. The manager is willing to negotiate, and the guys’ idea of negotiating is merely accepting his price of £200. Show a backbone and try to make a counteroffer at least.

In addition to this deal, the other guys are having some luck knocking on doors, but the girls are having no luck there, so they head to various businesses instead. This strategy works for them.

Sir Alan’s sending them to a fishmonger. The job should cost about £60. The girls bid £10, which they up to 15 when he asks for ironing as well. He repeatedly tries to let them know (not in so many words) that they’re screwing themselves on this deal, but they don’t listen. The boys go in at £49.50 and have no interest in matching the girls.

The girls who were working with the businesses Sir Alan set meetings up with head out selling, but the boys who were going door-to-door are instructed by Raef to head back to the laundromat and start work on the hotel project. They warn the other guys there’s a lot of stuff to do there. Every sheet (of which there are 500) takes four people to feed through the industrial strength presser.

Jen and Lucinda get into a spat. Well, Lucinda gets into a spat while Jen tries to get a word in edgewise anyway.

Simon begs Raef for help. Raef’s in no particular hurry to get back. They want to make sure they get some coffee first. He doesn’t get what the big deal is but admits it’s going to be close when he finally does show up.

At 8pm, half the girls are back at the laundry. Their big concern is making sure the right people get the right things because unlike the boys with their massive hotel order, the girls have lots of smaller orders. The rest of the team has had good success in selling to businesses, but the problem is that they’re cutting it very close. With the 2am deadline looming, they’re down to just two hours by the time they do finally make their appearance. They’ve got a plan. Beat the boys home and grab the irons. Too bad the guys already grabbed them a long time ago.

Here’s the real flaw in this plan. Shazia was the one who came up with the idea to head back, so she left. The other girls were behind and have no idea what’s up with her labelling system that was used to keep the different customers’ items where they should be.

Now it’s Jen’s turn to snap back at Lucinda. She tells her she’s absolutely thoroughly disappointed with her behavior. Excellent motivational leadership. She uses the word stupid more than once. Lucinda tries to defend herself. Jenny doesn’t want to hear it. She would rather continue to tear into hear. Lucinda wants to discuss it in the morning. Jenny still doesn’t want to hear it. She uses the word stupid more than once again and calls Lucinda a fungus that’s destroying the team. Someone else steps in to defend Lucinda, who by this point is crying. I want Jenny fired right now. I don’t care who wins or loses this task. This woman quite clearly is incapable of being a leader.

Lucinda oversleeps, perhaps intentionally, missing the meeting the next morning. Jenny picks up right where she left off. Being a bitch.

The guys kept the irons the whole night but didn’t even use them.

At 8:30, the guys leave. The girls are still ironing for another hour. Next they have to figure out what belongs to whom.

Hoping to maximize profits, the girls aim to get some tips. The fishmonger willingly gives them a £10 tip. They’re able to get a couple other tips as well, but there’s a problem. One they should have seen coming a mile away. They’re not going to get tips from people who are missing some of their clothes. Worse yet, if they’re unable to deliver the clothes as they were given to them, they will face fines.

The girls are mixed on Jenny’s performance, but the boys are firmly behind Raef. The girls earned £195.55 profit and were fined £50 for the lost clothing. The boys earned £328.00.

Jenny’s “delighted” to be going back to the boardroom because it will allow her to get rid of what she considers weaker links.

Sir Alan questions the lack of common sense on the ridiculous hotel offer. On the opposite end of the spectrum was the underbilling on the fish shop. Margaret and Sir Alan are unimpressed with Randi’s idea of asking for tips. Shazia takes the heat on the lost clothing.

Now it’s time to beat the dead horse some more. Jenny returns to attacking Lucinda.

Then it becomes a free-for-all in which everybody tries to talk over everybody else. It’s clear they spent too much time arguing rather than executing their plan.

Jenny is bringing Lucinda and Shazia back with her into the boardroom.

Lucinda says she shouldn’t be fired because she can motivate and work within teams.

Jenny’s asked a simple question with a simple answer. Where did Shazia go wrong in the task? Rather than just saying she went home when she should have stayed and helped sort the laundry, Jenny’s response is that Shazia lied, complained, manipulated other people, and didn’t deliver on the tasks that were allocated. Aside from being a dumb, long-winded answer, is any of this actually true?

Jenny has the same plan as she had during the task. Keep talking and expect other people to shut up. Margaret’s clearly getting a headache.

Both Shazia and Lucinda want Jenny gone. That makes three of us. Jenny wants both of them gone because they have an attitude and an inability to contribute anything of any value.

After Sir Alan gives a speech about how it’s not a good thing to have people who violently hate each other on the same team, he fires Shazia for her mistake. While I normally would agree, Jenny’s utter inability as a manager is so blatant that there’s no need for her to still be around, let alone in an environment in which she will be lashing out in this manner again in the future. He leaves both of them with a warning: act more professional in the future.

Survivor: Micronesia Episode 8

We’re now past CBS’ successful effort at confusing everybody as to when Survivor would actually be on. Two weeks ago on the Wednesday airing of Survivor: Micronesia Episode 7, two more castaways were once again eliminated from the show. First, Kathy quit, bringing the tribes even at 6 apiece. Then Malakal lost the immunity challenge as usual, and a plan to the shake up the game never went beyond the plan stage, so Tracy followed Chet out the door.

Erik’s afraid he will be the next to go, but he remains Ozzy’s pet, so he has potential to stick around.

Ami and Cirie have figured out that they can get plenty of food on their own.

Ozzy’s freaking out about the previous night’s tribal council, and his paranoia continues to grow as the hours pass.

Airai’s got a rat to eat. Breakfast of champions.

James hates his new island, and he feels like he and Parvati are pretty much on their own over there.

Parvati wants to secure Alexis and Natalie, whoever they are, and then get together with Amanda for a girl power alliance. She knows she can’t beat James or Ozzy in the end.

The tribes can pick one person at the other tribe who won’t compete in the immunity challenge but also will have individual immunity. This is in preparation for that night’s tribal council, despite the fact that they just went to tribal last night. Airai selected Ozzy; Malakal selected Alexis. They chose Alexis because they think it’s about balance. Tribe members will run across a balancing obstacle course while members of the other tribe swing bags at them. Parvati will sit out for Airai. Eliza and Jason run for Airai; Erik and Amanda run for Malakal. Jason takes a slight lead for Airai. The girls both fall off, and Jason extends his lead. Eliza falls. Amanda doesn’t fall, and she and Jason are now neck and neck. Eliza has a lead over Erik by seconds, retaining her lead over him as they both score points. On his next go, Erik takes a hard fall, and this is enough to let Airai get a lead they won’t look back from. Airai wins immunity (again), pizza, and beer.

Jason still thinks his hidden immunity idol is real. I’m thoroughly impressed he’s dumb enough to fall for this. Ozzy’s happy someone took the bait.

Erik asks Cirie and Parvati how much they trust Ami, telling them she’s been trying to screw them over, which is true, though I wonder to what extent she was really serious about making that happen. Of course, they don’t trust him because he’ll flip quicker than she will. Ami knows what he’s doing and approaches them to talk.

Ami blames their lack of approaching her for what she’s done. She thanks Erik for helping her get closer to them.

As Ozzy’s boat approaches, Erik’s a lost puppy dog looking for some help from him. He tells Ozzy the same story he told the girls. Unlike the girls who don’t trust either of them, Ozzy without question trusts Erik.

Can’t say I blame them for getting rid of Ami. She proved last time she plays this game hard. Granted, they have ensured they’ve got one less favorite and a potentially dangerous duo in Ozzy and Erik at merge.

Big Brother 9 Episode 23

Last night, James went off the deep end but managed to stay composed enough to win veto again. In his place, Sharon was nominated, again as a pawn. This week, however, her partner Joshuah had other plans. He tried to get her kicked out of the house and believes he’s managed to secure Ryan’s and James’ votes, which would be enough to force a tie. In order to get Natalie’s vote in the event of a tie, he’s given her a guarantee of two weeks of safety. I can’t see the logic behind why she’d stick with this plan, though.

Natalie doesn’t want to be the executioner. She says she hopes Josh can get the three votes on his own. He’s trying to get Adam on his side as well.

Natalie spills the plan to Sharon and tells her she’d rather keep her. Sharon guarantees Natalie safety. I’d trust her more than Josh. If nothing else, I’d trust her in the house more than the duo of James and Josh combined. Then Sharon brings Sheila in. The girls are worried that it’s going to be a battle of the sexes.

Ryan continues to hold to his alliance with Josh and defends him when approached by Natalie. Sharon approaches Ryan and tells him she hasn’t lied and that she’ll have his back. He says this is enough to get him to flip, so he tells Natalie to keep Sharon. Natalie’s also been plotting with Adam.

Josh’s mom says that sometimes she just wants to wring his neck when she’s watching him on TV. She’s not alone.

Natalie tells us Ryan is her closest ally now that Matt’s gone.

By a vote of 3-1, Joshuah has been evicted from the Big Brother house. Josh gives a good speech as he’s leaving, but then he spoils it when, like all the excessively bitter houseguests that have left in the past few weeks, Josh tells most of the people to stay seated except for a couple (Sharon and James). He tells Julie they made the right decision by kicking him out. He claims he’s only mean when he’s provoked. Well, that’s one theory anyway. Sharon promises vengeance on everyone for keeping her in the house kicking out Josh.

Julie hopes everybody’s been studying and counting everything in the house. The HOH competition is all about the quantity of things found in the Big Brother house. Everybody but Sheila gets the first question right. James and Sharon score a point on the second question. Sharon, Sheila, and Adam get the third question right. Everybody gets the next question wrong. Sharon is currently in the lead with three points. Everybody gets the next question right. Everybody but Sharon gets the next question right. Sharon, James, and Adam are in the lead with four points. Adam and Sheila get the next question right. Adam wins HOH.

I’m calling it now. At some point during the next week, James will say, “When I win veto, I’m going after Adam next week. Rawr.”

Big Brother 9 Spoilers

David Cook Hospitalized after the Show

David Cook was hospitalized after Tuesday night’s episode of American Idol, a source close to the show told Reuters. He was taken to the emergency room because he was suffering from heart palpitations and high blood pressure.

He was treated at the hospital and later released. Word has it that he has been under stress recently due to an illness in the family.

Big Brother 9 Episode 22

Natalie took advantage of her newfound HOH power and nominated James and Joshuah in Big Brother 9 Episode 21.

James is getting tired of being on the block. It’s really simple. He played way too aggressively and lied without provocation. He made his own bed, and now he’s going to be seen as a target for the rest of the game.

Sheila’s there to tell James he’s going to win veto. Then she offers a pep talk to Joshuah as well, within hearing distance of James. Rather than just keeping his mouth shut, he goes to confront everybody. Typical James. Once this is apparently all over, he still can’t leave well enough alone. Now it’s time to go do his best Chelsia impersonation and fight with Sheila and call her a two-faced bitch, which may be true but still. Dude, somebody medicate this guy already.

James still can’t figure out why the house voted him back in if they now all want him gone. He made them want him gone. Doesn’t he get it? Wasn’t he supposed to change his strategy to something that didn’t suck?

Natalie picks Ryan for the veto (houseguest’s choice).
Joshuah chooses Sheila at random.
James chooses Sharon at random.

The veto challenge is a guessing game. They must identify how many of each item are in each container. If you don’t want to answer, you can just fold and let other people eliminate themselves. James is just going to keep folding and watch the others drop. Smart strategy. Uninspired challenge design. Sharon and Joshuah are out first. Natalie gets a point. Natalie is eliminated on the next round. Ryan gets a point. Sheila gets the next point because the other two folded. James finally stays in and gets a point because the other two fold. James stays again and gets a point again because the other two fold. For the second time in a row, Ryan was closest but folded. James gets the next point and wins the power of veto.

Good news for James. Bad news for Josh. For the first time, his ego is not showing its head.

Josh is assuming that Sharon’s going up and he’s heading home. She tries to comfort him, but the odds he’s wrong aren’t very good. She quickly realizes resistance is futile.

After some crying, though, Josh decides he’s not done after all. He goes to Natalie to make a deal. He wants to get a tie, which she will break. All this is going on while Sheila’s in the bathroom telling Sharon how great her friend is. Can’t say I blame him. He thinks he’s got James and Ryan. They’re not going to tell Adam or Sheila. He agrees to give Natalie two weeks of safety in exchange. But I do wonder: why would she trust Josh and James?

James takes himself off the block and tells people they need to start winning. Why? Losing everything hasn’t harmed Adam or Sheila any. As expected, Sharon goes up in his place.

Big Brother 9 Spoilers

Beauty and the Geek 5 Episode 4

Beauty and the Geek 5 Episode 3 quickly evolved… into the night of lame twists. Jillian was eliminated in a lame twist in which she went home immediately after losing the flag football game after she volunteered to go to the other side when one geek and one beauty switched sides. Then, they decided to remove the lame twist that started the season, turning it back into beauty and the geek rather than beauty vs. the geek. But not before announcing that the odd geek out would be eliminated. Once the other six beauties had chosen their partners, it came down to Tara having to choose between Jonathan and Joe, the two neither of the beauties wanted.

Tara has selected Joe. Jonathan must now leave the mansion.

This week’s challenge is a science challenge. The girls will be learning about geology, solar energy, and the laws of physics. They’ll present their projects at the science fair. The guys will learn the science of love. Seriously.

Tom’s paranoid talking about sex. He’s hoping that people asking for love advice won’t mention the subject.

The girls have picked three different science projects to display at the science fair. Kristina built a volcano, but she put her speech off until the last minute. Tara does the solar energy project, but she doesn’t bring her calculator with her. Amanda believes magma is still called magma when the volcano erupts. Leticia says “I suck.” Cara comes up with a unique way of explaining the earth, by boiling a hard boiled egg. She gets asked a question she doesn’t know, and she just changes the subject so she’s able to give a competent answer. Jim’s response to Tiffany is *facepalm*. Cara is the clear winner of this challenge.

Dr. Drew will be assessing the guys on their knowledge of relationships, as they give out advice on the radio. Matt says he skipped some of the more sexual portions of the book. Greg recommends a thong to his virgin for the moment caller. Jason gives advice on cheating. Chris suggests to a caller that she should build friendships first, rather than worrying about getting dates. Tom also gets the virgin, and he’s able to offer some good advice. Joe rambles on and on, but he not surprisingly won’t shut up. Dr. Drew says it came down to Jason and Tom. Jason was sweet, honest, and sincere, while Tom really connected with the caller. Tom is the winner of the geek challenge. He gives Amanda credit for the win because of her advice to him.

Jim wants a kiss from Tiffany. She’ll have to think about it.

The two teams in power get together to discuss their strategy.

Cara chooses Matt & Leticia. Leticia blames herself. Tom chooses Jim & Tiffany because they haven’t had anybody go into the elimination room yet. Matt gives Leticia a letter to read just in case they survive. She’s already crying before she’s even read it. Jim tells Tom he’s going to get revenge if he comes back.

The first to buzz in gets to answer. Beauties are up first. Leticia gets a ridiculously easy question right. Jim gets his question right to tie it, as he knows married couples average sex 1.5 times per week (what’s the .5?). Leticia gets the second question right. Jim gets his second question right to again tie it. Leticia once again gets the right answer, and she and Matt stay in the house. Jim and Tiffany are headed home.

Jim says he’s learned to wear pajamas and deodorant. I certainly hope so. Doesn’t look like he’ll get that kiss, though.
