Big Brother 9 Episode 7

Following James & Chelsia’s HOH win, they decided they wanted to get rid of Amanda and by extension her partner Alex in Big Brother 9 Episode 6. Despite a promise not to nominate him, Matt was put up as a pawn with Natalie. Sheila and Allison, meanwhile, had to tell everybody their stupid lie about being a lesbian couple was just that, a stupid lie.

Alex blames Amanda for his nomination, and he doesn’t hide it. He doesn’t plan to be negative to the house. Just to his partner.

Matt doesn’t hide his frustration with James & Chelsia, but James doesn’t feel bad about it. Yes, this is Big Brother. Lie. But don’t get caught in a lie this blatant for no reason at all. When talking to Matt and Alex, James makes no apologies for what he’s done, telling them it’s just a game. It will be just a game when whoever survives targets him, too. They have one goal in mind now: get revenge on James.

Sheila’s starting to distrust Allison, finally opening her eyes like the rest of the country.

Sheila confronts Allison and tells her she feels she’s been mad at her. Allison claims she just needs to spend more time with Ryan.

Sharon & Joshuah are selected randomly to participate in the veto competition. In addition to veto, the winning team will be able to receive information from the outside world. Teams must adjust miniature utility poles in order to restore power. Connecting the wires and poles is like a puzzle with one solution. Sharon & Joshuah win the power of veto, just beating Alex & Amanda. The house gets news from the outside world, from the presidential campaign to Britney Spears. They also get news about the Hudson River Virus, which gets them all worried, even though it’s just a plotline from Jericho Season 2.

Sheila continues to be worried that Allison was just nice to her for her vote. She confides in Natalie, who thinks she just needs to keep things in more. Then she goes angrily to Matt, who thinks she’s a mental case. She’s loud about it, too, so it’s not exactly a secret among the rest of the house. Word gets back to Allison, so she goes to talk to her, inviting the others along, though they don’t follow. Not that it’s hard to overhear. Sheila tells her to not talk to her for the rest of the game. Ryan comes to Allison’s defense, and so does Sheila’s partner Adam. Since they’re on the block Alex & Amanda are thrilled all this chaos is going on around them.

Allison’s outside running and all of a sudden decides she needs to go into the diary room. She thinks she’s having an allergic reaction. While she’s in there, Amanda, who’s on slop, starts to get lightheaded because she’s hypoglycemic, and she collapses on the ground. I said this when it was introduced, and I’ll say it again. Slop is a ridiculous and stupid twist that serves no purpose. PB&J may not be the healthiest option, but at least it’s a balanced meal (even if it, too, serves no point). This slop crap is just asking for trouble. The ambulance shows up to haul them away.

The rest of the house sits around pondering how their differences aren’t really that big a deal, how they hope the others return safely, and are impressed by James being there to help Amanda out. Amanda’s the first one to return. Then Allison comes back. Everybody’s happy to see both of them.

It’s time to get back to the game, though. Joshuah & Sharon decide not to use the veto.

Big Brother 9 Episode 6

Allison got what she wanted in Big Brother 9 Episode 5: she got rid of her partner Ryan’s girlfriend, which she presumably hopes will help open the door for her (if you ask me, I’d say just leave the door shut). Along with Jen, her partner Parker, whose strategy was apparently to stick out like a sore thumb, became the second pair to be evicted from the Big Brother house. In the competition for the next HOH, James and Chelsia emerged victorious.

Amanda’s crying because Parker’s gone, saying she didn’t want him to leave. Ironic considering she’s one of the people who nominated him.

James & Chelsia believe they’re in charge of the house. HOH only lasts for one week, folks.

James promises Matt he won’t be on the block.

Joshuah tells Sharon the “secret” that Sheila and Allison are lesbians.

They head up to the HOH room. Chelsia quickly becomes obnoxiously loud. James gets pictures of his family, which he doesn’t have any of since he’s riding his bike around the world.

After the unveiling, they tell Natalie the same thing they told Matt: she’s safe. They want to get rid of Alex & Amanda.

Amanda pulls Joshuah aside to make up after the fight they had. She then makes an offer of an alliance, since nobody would suspect it.

Natalie’s already discussing having 5-7 kids with Matt. He’s going to be running for the hills very soon. Matt doesn’t want to get distracted by flirting and wants to keep his eye on the prize.

Allison now wants to stop pretending she’s a lesbian. Sheila doesn’t want to flip, though.

The house is divided into two teams for the food challenge. Joshuah & Sharon, Ryan & Allison, and Natalie & Matt are on yellow team. Sheila & Adam, Chelsia & James, Alex & Amanda are on green team. They walk outside and are greeted by the smell of dead fish. Deckhands will hold the nets, while divers will dive for fish and fill the opposing team’s net. Yellow team has all their guys holding nets, while green team opts to have one guy diving. Ryan thinks women covered in fish guts and blood is sexy. They gang up on him, and he’s the first one out. James is out next, followed by Amanda. Matt’s next out, making it Joshuah against Adam. As far ahead as they are in sinking Adam, it’s clear it’s just a matter of time before he’s out. Yellow team wins the food challenge. Green team must eat slop for the week.

James sorta has romantic feelings for Chelsia. He doesn’t know if she likes him but eventually convinces her to snuggle with him.

Sheila and Allison tell Chelsia, one half of the HOH couple, that the lesbian story was just made up. She told James, since she tells him everything, so they have to tell him, too. Then Allison decides to tell Josh. Nobody believes they can trust them any more, and everybody’s pissed off. My initial reaction was that the lie was stupid, and while it worked out in their favor briefly, it just doesn’t make any sense in the long term.

To carry out operation condor, which is completed when Amanda & Alex are eliminated from the game, James needs a pawn. He tells Matt that now he’s thinking of putting him up.

Alex & Amanda and Matt & Natalie have been nominated. James and Chelsia make no bones about the fact that they’re targeting Amanda, in what is ultimately a very dumb nomination speech. In the process of letting Amanda know they hate her, though, they’ve also made an enemy out of Matt, who wants revenge for the nomination, which is never a guaranteed thing, pawn or not.

Beauty and the Geek 5 Cast

Beauty and the Geek 5 will premiere on The CW Tuesday March 11 at 8PM. Mike Richards will return as host. This season, two cliques will compete against each other, and people will be eliminated individually rather than in teams of two. Eighteen people will make up the cast.

American Idol 7 Episode 12

The top 12 boys performed in American Idol 7 Episode 11. Now the top 12 girls get their chance, some of which have had the flu, but the show must go on.

In reference to last night’s show and people like Danny Noriega, Simon tells Ryan that if the contestants disagree, which he claims is rare, he likes that they tell him what they think.

Kristy Lee Cook sold her horse to be able to pay for her trip to the auditions and hopes to be able to earn enough money to buy him back. She’s one of the ones who is sick and sings Rescue Me. Okay performance and at least it’s fairly fun.

Randy-Not your best performance.
Paula-Don’t want to let anyone see you’re having a little bit of a tough time.
Simon-Complete wrong choice of song. Bronchitis. Flu. Whatever.

Joanne Borgella got the last spot for the girls against Cardin McKinney. She sings I Say a Little Prayer and does okay.

Randy-Pretty good towards the end. Shaky/unsure voice.
Paula-Liked it but didn’t love it.
Simon-Didn’t like it at all. Cabaret. Substandard.

Alaina Whitaker, this season’s youngest contestant, is hoping her 17th birthday the next day is a good one. She sings More Today than Yesterday and shows she’s got the whole package to make it far in this competition.

Randy-It was like going on.
Paula-Feel good song. Nailed it.
Simon-Very good. Didn’t see any nerves. Hated the song. Will be great when she’s got a decent song. Sailing through.

Amanda Overmyer has stood out as a strong singer but with a lingering question of whether she will sound the same every week. She takes Simon’s advice and stops with the Joplin, instead opting to sing Baby Please Don’t Go Lyrics. I guess if you’re into rocker chicks, this probably works.

Randy-Liked the performance/pants.
Paula-Loves everything she does.
Simon-Authentic. Stands out in the crowd. Not the best performance. Didn’t realize the scatting was intentional because it was… scatting.

Amy Davis didn’t feel confident that they would pick her over all the other people there. She sings Where the Boys Are, apparently the slowest song known to man.

Randy-A lot of pitch problems.
Paula-The camera loves her. Not a good thing to hear from Paula. Nerves got the best of her. Lackluster.
Simon-Looks great but didn’t sound great. Boring. Cabaret. Really, really dull.

Nanny Brooke White isn’t on the dark side yet. She sings Happy Together. Very fun performance, though she may be remembered more for her banter with Simon than any singing.

Randy-Started rough but worked it out in the end.
Paula-Original. Picked the right song.
Simon-Chose the right song. Not his cup of tea. Doesn’t want her to be nice throughout the competition.

Alexandrea Lushington sings Spinning Wheel.

Randy-It was hot. It worked.
Paula-Thought about her performance from top to bottom.
Simon-Didn’t get it. Terrible 60’s musical. Vocals weren’t great.

Kady Malloy, the singer impersonator, sings Groovy Kind of Love. She sounds okay, but when will contestants learn to not pick sleepy songs?

Randy-Okay but restrained and controlled.
Paula-Kady looks really pretty tonight. The Paula kiss of death. She wants to see the fun Kady.
Simon-Like night of the living dead. Came across as 80. Really likes when she impersonates Britney. “I don’t know who could impersonate you. A pencil or something.”

Asia’h Epperson sings Piece of My Heart. I’m not sure this is necessarily the best song for her, but she does a good job with it.

Randy-A little Janis, a little Asia’h. Impressed.
Paula-Fun, some really good moments.
Simon-Favorite of the night. Fun, likeable, good voice, not taking herself too seriously.

Ramiele Malubay sings You Don’t Have to Say You Love Me. Nice voice but again way too slow of a song, although she does pull together a strong finish.

Randy-Loved how it built up and saved to the end. Almost like a pro.
Paula-Force to be reckoned with.
Simon-Didn’t like her when he first saw her, but she outsung everybody tonight.
Ryan-Those shoes are great.

Syesha Mercado’s voice is back, and she’s singing Tobacco Road. This kind of upbeat song is a perfect fit for her, and a nice change from the slow songs. She shows the same kind of power we saw in Hollywood.

Randy-Definitely can sing. Big old powerful voice.
Paula-Consistent, joyful, fun, big.
Simon-Wasn’t her best performance, but it doesn’t matter because she’s probably one of the most talented girls in the competition.

Carly Smithson has taken a lot of flack for having already released an album for a major record label. They’re not hiding it now, as she tells the story of how the record company (with which her first album sold a few hundred copies following a multi-million dollar investment) imploded, and they don’t exist any more. This is like somebody telling a story of how the college they went to got shut down. She sings Look Into My Eyes and has a good voice.

Randy-That’s what the show is all about.
Paula-Reliable. Then Paula rambles some.
Simon-Didn’t get it. Way too old fashioned. Let down with all the hype.

Wouldn’t surprise me if Simon doesn’t want to waste money on somebody whose marketability is obviously so shaky, and he also probably doesn’t like people questioning the integrity of the show, which they have been since she’s not an “undiscovered” talent (she’s been discovered by 378 album shoppers).

The Biggest Loser 5 Episode 8

For the second week in a row, the blue team lost in The Biggest Loser Couples Episode 7, and rather than keep going with a knee injury, Trent asked to be voted out so that his team would be at its strongest. The good news, or perhaps not so good news, for the teams is that they’re all living at home for the next week. Probably a mental boost, but there’s no doubt it may present a roadblock to weight loss goals.

Jay views the trip home as a way to be reenergized, which he needs since he’s the weakest link on his team and basically the reason they lost last week. Bernie and Brittany are excited to be going home, but they’re being smart about it. They’re taking with them all the foods they know they’ll need while there. Dan wants to see his mom and make sure she’s been sticking with her exercise and diet plan, while Maggie’s looking forward to seeing Jen.

They all have to warn their families, who clearly aren’t watching what they eat and themselves could afford to diet, that they’re on a program and that things will need to change.

Mark goes so far as to throw away desserts that his kids are trying to eat. Harsh perhaps, but a necessary lesson, although moderation certainly makes a lot more sense than cold turkey. His wife has dropped two sizes because she wants to improve herself, too. His kids are reluctant to try a new healthy meal he makes, but they’re surprised to find out they like it.

Brittany goes out with her friends to a bar, where she orders a water on the rocks. Later in the week, she goes with a friend to Subway, which while it’s a paid advertisement, is still a worthwhile message that just because you’re eating fast food doesn’t mean it has to be unhealthy.

Bernie heads to his favorite bakery in Chicago, where he hugs the people who work there upon greeting them. A scary sign. He’s even got a cupcake named after him now.

Paul gets all you can eat wings when he goes out, and he’s not shy of slipping back into his old ways and eating away. He’s also washing that down with some soda.

Maggie goes to meet Jen, and they go to the gym to workout with Jen’s trainer. She manages to get 2 of the 15 miles done that Jillian expected her to.

Roger goes to his favorite restaurant but applies what he’s learned, ordering something healthy.

Jay and his wife manage to find healthy meals for themselves, but the kids kind of get lost in the shuffle. When they see the portion sizes for “kids meals,” they’re shocked, and he says they’ll have to take some of it home. Even still, he’s not happy with the quality of the meals the kids get.

Dan goes to meet with his mom at the family’s youth organization. They decide to play some dodgeball with the kids, a nice change from before when she was sitting at a desk all day and he played for a short amount of time at most.

Mark wants to workout with Jay. They meet one day, but Jay says he’s busy the next day. Mark emphasizes how important it is to make sure he still works out.

Jillian made sure that, even though the contestants were at home, she was their first phone call in the morning and last phone call at night. Bernie tells her they did name a cupcake after him but that he didn’t eat anything. Brittany admits to eating a piece of pizza and a cookie. Maggie had fish and vegetables every single time she went out. Kelly ate out a lot but thinks she made smart choices when she did. Unlike everybody else, not only did Paul pig out, but he also didn’t return any of Jillian’s phone calls. He pretends his phone was broken, but she knows better.

Paul’s reward for being The Biggest Loser player of the week is a lifetime membership to 24 Hour Fitness.

The winning team in the challenge will choose two people who will have to weigh-in 24 hours early, immediately after the challenge. Three people from each team will compete. Paul and Kelly sit out, and Mark sits out for his team. A machine has been created to spin tubes in rotations above and below them. They have to jump over one tube, then duck under the next. If they break the tube, they’re out. Roger is first out at 6 minutes. Bernie’s out at 15 minutes, saying the challenge is more mental than physical. Roger makes an offer at 28 minutes: just call it a draw. Bernie seems interested, and the blue team members that are still in it are as well. However, Brittany’s not budging. Dan seems to be losing focus and is out at 36 minutes. Maggie is out next at 39 minutes, and Jay follows closely behind her. Brittany wins the challenge for the black team, making the gamble she took pay off. They choose Dan and Roger to weigh-in early because they’re the biggest threats, giving them one day less this week… but one day more next week, which potentially makes them even more dangerous than normal then.

Dan: 226 pounds (-11)
Roger: 276 pounds (-16)

Amazing numbers considering they had one less day and also went home for the week. This is a pretty typical number for Dan and Roger’s best week since week one. They decide they would rather surprise the other team with these numbers. The big question is how Jay did, as well as just how bad Paul did (Jillian expects tragedy).

Holy blowout, Batman. Blue team showed exceptional strength despite the trip home. Black team actually did not do that much worse than they typically have done, and despite Paul’s lack of focus, he actually pulled an okay number, just not enough to keep himself safe. Jay is The Biggest Loser player of the week. Kelly is the biggest loser on her team and has immunity. Paul’s excited about this, although, despite the fact that he’s an asset to the team, the three amigos are likely to vote him out as a block. Paul wears a yellow team T-shirt to the weigh-in.

The other players were quick to jump on Paul for wearing a yellow shirt, but it’s pretty obvious he was right. This isn’t about the team. It’s about an alliance. Which is fine, but there’s no need to jump down his throat for pointing out the truth that everybody knows. Paul is now off his blood pressure medicine. He lost 67 pounds on the show but has been in the hospital for two weeks with pneumonia, where he gained 6 pounds, but he’s now down a total of 64 pounds.

The Celebrity Apprentice Episode 8

In a ridiculous and stupid move, Trump put Piers Morgan and Omarosa on the same team in The Celebrity Apprentice Episode 7, and in the end he had egg on his face, as the ridiculous duo managed to win (no thanks to Omarosa), while the other team, which actually got along well, lost. Since he couldn’t get anybody to quit, he decided instead to just simply forego firing for the week, and nobody got fired for the first time in the show’s history. Then he wised up and moved Omarosa off Piers’ team and put Marilu Henner in her place. Omarosa’s new team got screwed in that trade.

Piers is able to give the winnings of $65,000 to the Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund. While he’s doing this, he’s able to reflect on the positive aspects of the show.

The teams will be heading to QVC, where they will write, direct, and produce a ten minute live segment. They’ll pitch a product that has never been on QVC before.

Stephen Baldwin volunteers to be project manager, and he also wants to direct. Marilu is the project manager for her team.

Trump promises the teams (twice) that somebody will be fired this week.

Piers once again wants to take advantage of Lennox Lewis’ celebrity power. Lennox is more interested in another role, whatever that may be. Directing, apparently.

Empresario wants the ladder that can be converted into a hand truck, which looks like a pretty cool product. Likewise, Hydra wants the ladder cart as well. Because they picked the same one, they’ll need to negotiate. Marilu and Carol Alt negotiate with Stephen and Tito Ortiz. Negotiate = coin flip. Hydra wins the coin flip. Empresario decides to go with an electric sweeper that charges up and then can be unplugged.

Carol and Marilu have both been involved with QVC before, and Marilu, who’s extremely enthusiastic about the product, decides to do the hosting. For the other team, Trace Adkins is nominated to do the presenting. Both are given a QVC host to assist them.

Hydra does a practice run through. Omarosa wants to do the same thing, but Baldwin refuses.

Donald Jr thinks Trace is the right person to pitch a product to middle America. With the other team, he’s impressed by Marilu’s enthusiasm but not as impressed by the fact that she likes to talk… a lot.

Baldwin really wants to push the EZ Pay option, an installment payment plan.

The older Trump says the same thing as his son: Marilu has great enthusiasm, but she talks way too much.

Trace, who performs in front of full stadiums, is very nervous here, but he pulls it together and turns out to be a good presenter. Unlike the bordering on manic Marilu, Trace is very calm, perhaps too calm.

Stephen, who refused to listen to Omarosa’s suggestion to do a trial run no matter how much she begged, praises Omarosa in the boardroom.

Empresario made $43,000. Hydra made $35,000. Trump is impressed with Trace’s presentation, as is the rest of his team. The other team seemed impressed with Stephen’s push for EZ Pay. Perhaps not so much impressed as surprised.

Piers blames the team. He likes the project manager. He reluctantly answers Lennox (aka sleepy boy) as the person who should be fired. Trump is not pleased with the sleepy boy comment.

Trump suggests Marilu is overenergized.

Lennox says it all comes down to the PM, as does Carol.

After much thought and talking, Marilu still can’t come up with an answer of who she’d fire, so Trump tells her to not bother answering and just say who’s safe. Carol is safe.

Ivanka blames Marilu because she took on a lot of responsibility, and Trump Jr. thinks similarly and is particularly surprised that Carol is safe.

Piers doesn’t believe Carol didn’t know about EZ Pay, considering she worked with QVC for 5 years. I’m having trouble buying it myself.

Marilu basically didn’t bring back Carol since they’ve worked together from day one, even if she doesn’t acknowledge it. Carol quickly takes a lot of heat, which ultimately falls back on Marilu. Marilu’s fired.

Survivor: Micronesia Episode 3

The fans were still trying to get it together in Survivor: Micronesia Episode 2. After they lost the challenge, it looked like a pretty obvious choice: get rid of the weakest link. Instead, with Joel’s blatant taking of control, they decided to get rid of Mikey’s biggest ally, Mary, because Joel didn’t like that Mikey seemed to be in control. Over on the other camp, life was good, and there was more than one pair that needed to get a room.

Mikey immediately knows who’s to blame. He’s unimpressed with the strategy of not voting out the weakest players.

Eliza, who they were talking about getting rid of not long ago, decided to go along with an invitation from the couples to take a walk with them, as they want her to join their side. They’re discussing taking out the weakest ones (Yau-Man and Cirie). She listens but doesn’t trust them at all. Cirie, meanwhile, is trying to make a decision between the two camps as to which one suits her better.

In preparation for the challenge, the tribes get warpaint. It’ll be a battle because they’re allowing all sorts of physical contact here. Favorites are playing for shelter, lighting kit, and survival kit. Fans are playing for fishing kit, shelter, and kitchen set. Tribes will charge from their endzone to the opposing endzone in an effort to get 5 of the 6 bags in the endzone, and the other team is allowed to steal bags even after they’re in the endzone. It quickly becomes a wrestling, shoving, and tackling match. Not shy of going after the women, Erik dumps Amanda over his head, causing James to get up and get him to see how he likes dealing with people three times his size. It’s back and forth, but in the end, favorites win 5-2. They send Kathy and Ami to exile island. Kathy’s not happy about going there again, but Ami’s looking forward to it.

Cirie says she doesn’t feel relaxed and needs to keep scrambling. It’s real simple. She needs to pick a side, and pick the right one at that. If she doesn’t, she could end up like Christy from Survivor: Amazon. She has a chat with Amanda and Parvati, who say they’d lose against James or Ozzy in a second in the finals, which is true, although that didn’t prevent Amanda from dragging Todd along multiple too many times in China.

Even though she found all four clues already, Kathy doesn’t care and lets Ami look for clues as if she doesn’t know where they are. Kathy couldn’t care less about finding the idol. Due to the weather, they decide to abandon their searching anyway.

The fans are uncomfortable in the rain, but the favorites have the perfect cover for this weather and couldn’t be more comfortable. The struggle continues overnight, and the fans wake up demoralized.

The bad news for the fans is that they must now head to the immunity challenge. Tribes will hold on to a rope net, while members of the other tribe shoot coconuts into it. Jonathan refuses to shut up, an easy way to make some enemies on the other tribe. It’s becoming more and more obvious that the fans are going to win this, and they do.

Jonathan insists on taking out Parvati. The couples are discussing Yau-Man, since Cirie wants him out. However, they’re not so sure, and they try to convince her about Eliza. Cirie has a discussion with Jonathan and his alliance, and she makes it apparent she doesn’t trust the bonds between them. Everybody starts to get concerned that Cirie’s voting Yau-Man, no matter what, which appears to be true. If she keeps this up, they’ll be more willing to risk a tie in the next vote by just getting rid of her. Lucky for her, though, more than one person seems dead set against a tie. Yau-Man has been eliminated. By taking such an unnecessarily strong stance, I’m not real clear how Cirie did herself any favors, or for that matter what she was trying to prove. She’s set herself up to go far, but I can’t figure out why anybody would actually trust her going forward.

American Idol 7 Episode 13

Garrett Haley is the first one eliminated. Can’t say as I’m surprised. The only real surprise here is that, 17 minutes in and with no build up, Seacrest dropped the axe.

Kristy Lee Cook is safe.

Amy Davis, however, is not, and is the first of the girls to be eliminated. Also not a surprise. It’s entirely possible she’s a better singer than she demonstrated (it’s also entirely possible she’s just trying to expand her modelling career), but the big problem is that last night she just simply put all the viewers to sleep.

Paula Abdul has a new song for some reason.

Joanne Borgella and Amanda Overmyer are revealed as not safe. Joanne Borgella is the second girl of the night to be eliminated.

Chikezie and Colton Berry are called down. Colton Berry is the last person to be eliminated this week. Simon doesn’t believe he can make a successful career out of singing.
