The Amazing Race 13 Episode 9

Terence & Sarah made a dumb mistake in The Amazing Race 13 Episode 8 and paid for it. After they and Nick & Starr insisted on going for the fast forward knowing that whoever didn’t get it would probably be screwed, Terence & Sarah were unable to catch up to the rest of the pack and were eliminated. Having won the fast forward, Nick & Starr continued their winning ways. Meanwhile, Andrew & Dan as presumably part of some cosmic joke managed to get into the final four in spite of themselves.

Teams depart in the order in which they arrived.

First: Nick & Starr – 9:21PM
Second: Toni & Dallas – 10:47PM
Third: Ken & Tina – 11:17PM
Fourth: Andrew & Dan – 12:41AM

Dallas and Starr are continuing to get closer, but they still know they’re in a race. The way this whole thing’s played out, it’s helped them, rather than hindering them. Andrew & Dan, having left their shoes at the detour (they may as well have just gone back and gotten them considering how far behind they are anyway), are now in slippers they got from the hotel. It turns out there’s a 24 hour shoe store in the airport, and they have a good amount of money left, so they make sure they’re properly outfitted before leaving. They just hope they don’t run out of money after dropping $160 on shoes.

Teams will fly nearly 2000 miles to Moscow, Russia. This late at night we’re probably looking at an airport equalizer. When Nick & Starr arrive, they’re told the earliest flight leaves at 6:05AM. All teams are on the same flight.

When they arrive in Moscow, it’s back to the not being able to communicate with anybody problem again. Nick & Starr follow Toni & Dallas and are the first two teams to arrive. Dallas just wonders if Andrew & Dan are even in the right country. Andrew & Dan are next to arrive, followed closely by Ken & Tina.

From the monastery, teams will go to the outskirts of Moscow to a decommissioned military base Kolosok Camp. Toni & Dallas seem to have lost Nick & Starr somewhere along the way. Andrew & Dan and Ken & Tina are neck and neck, but Nick & Starr are in the unfamiliar position of last place.

The detour is a choice between boots or borscht. In boots, they will learn a traditional parade march. In borscht, teams will need to serve borscht to 75 Russian soldiers. Apparently the catch is if they’re sloppy, they’ll have to repeat part of the task. In each detour, teams will need to get properly dressed in full military gear.

Andrew stumbles over figuring out how to get dressed, so they decide to switch to the borscht detour hoping that they won’t have to wear the military outfit, but after switching they realize they still have to wear the uniform no matter what. They’re finally dressed but are in their traditional last place. Once that’s done, they provide much comic relief for the soldiers, as Dan has no coordination. So then they switch back to borscht. Lucky for them the borscht task seems pretty simple.

Boots: Toni & Dallas, Ken & Tina, Nick & Starr
Borscht: Andrew & Dan (switched from boots to borscht to boots to borscht)

From there, teams will go to a bakery in Zhukovsky. The road block is to be a delivery person, unloading fifty 55 pound bags of flour to an unpleasant counter person. Dallas knows this is his time to shine, and he insists on grabbing two bags at a time, even though his mom wants him to slow down a bit. He manages to get about 15 bags ahead of Ken by the time he arrives. Although Ken’s older, he is an ex-pro athlete. An exhausted Dallas retains a lead of about 8 bags and finishes first, but Ken’s not far behind. Nick & Starr are lost again, while Andrew & Dan have probably been at the detour for hours. When they arrive, Nick & Starr tell their cab driver to get lost, hoping they’ll be able to find another one if they need to. Nick tries to do two at once, but he’ll have to settle for one, as does Dan.

Road block (in order of arrival): Dallas, Ken, Nick, Dan

The pit stop for this leg of the race is Neskuchny Sad, which means it’s back through the crowded streets of Moscow they go. Looks like Nick & Starr will have to find a new cab. Too bad this guy doesn’t know any more than the last one, as Starr begins to have a nervous breakdown while Nick remains calm. Andrew & Dan have run out of money and are hoping their cab driver is understanding. Dan offers him his newly bought and expensive shoes, but he’s not interested. They do finally manage to make a deal with him, though.

First: Toni & Dallas (win a trip to the Dominican Republic)
Second: Ken & Tina
Third: Nick & Starr
Non-eliminated: Andrew & Dan

Non-elimination? Is this a joke? This is like when David & Mary just refused to be stepped on. Andrew & Dan will need to complete one additional task, a speed bump, which doesn’t bode well for them considering that they’re horrible at tasks. To further compound matters, they’re out of money, and cabs in Moscow seem to be pretty expensive.

The Amazing Race Asia 3 Winner

Having ambled their way through the race, AD & Fuzzie were finally eliminated in The Amazing Race Asia 3 Episode 10. That leaves us with a final three of Geoff Rodriguez & Tisha Silang from the Philippines, Ida Nerina & Tania Khan from Malaysia, and Sam Wu & Vince Chung from Hong Kong.

Vince & Sam have had an excellent run, placing in the top three in 8 of the last 9 legs, although they did have a couple close calls (the bad flight where Henry & Bernie were eliminated instead, and the 4 hour penalty last time). Geoff & Tisha were a middle of the road team that didn’t really come on strong until the last half of the season, where they’ve proved to be one of the top teams. Ida & Tania have had a mixed run, including being saved by non-elimination legs twice following a 7 hour gap the leaders opened up on them. All three teams have had their share of success, splitting all of the last 7 first place finishes between them.

Teams depart in the order in which they arrived.

First: Ida & Tania – 5:42AM
Second: Geoff & Tisha – 5:54AM
Third: Vince & Sam – 10:04aM

Teams will drive themselves to the Governorate of Muscat office, about an hour and a half away. The hours of operation is 8AM, which will allow Vince & Sam to make up about half an hour.

From there, they will head to Said’s Camel Farm in Al Abyad to transfer 10 camels to a holding pit. Geoff & Tisha had planned to follow Ida & Tania, but they don’t want to stop for breakfast like Ida & Tania do, so they just apparently get lost instead. And then they get stuck in the sand. Geoff manages to get them out and decides to do the driving in the sand. All the girls think the camels are cute, but Geoff just doesn’t want to be spit on. The camels don’t seem too fond of him either. As Geoff & Tisha are heading to the road block, they pass Vince & Sam going the other way.

The road block is to drive to Hubra Sands and use a metal detector to find a key buried (fortunately not very deep) in the sand. Only 7 of the 70+ keys will actually open the clue box, and teams will be digging with temperatures well over 100F degrees.

Road block (in order of arrival): Tania, Tisha, Sam

As Ida & Tania are leaving the road block (and stuck in the sand), they see Geoff & Tisha (who get stuck in the sand again). Both teams manage to get free. Then Ida & Tania get stuck again. Geoff & Tisha finish the road block, which gives them the lead. One of the locals gets Ida & Tania free. Both teams pass Vince & Sam as they’re leaving. Vince warns Sam not to stop in sand, but he doesn’t listen and gets stuck, too.

Once they finish the road block, teams will fly to their final destination Phuket, Thailand. Given the time they’re leaving, the distance they’ll be travelling, and where they’re travelling from (there are likely to be few flights, all of which will include potentially lengthy layovers), the airport could be a great equalizer or could just simply put one team out of reach. Vince & Sam manage to catch up and get the same flight as Geoff & Tisha. It’s unclear why Ida & Tania did not, as they’re opting to go via Singapore rather than Bangkok.

First flight (Muscat to Dubai to Bangkok to Phuket for a total of 6160km): Geoff & Tisha, Vince & Sam
Second flight (to Dubai, where they will try their luck): Ida & Tania

When Ida & Tania arrive in Dubai, the service they receive from the ticket agents is poor, and they miss the flight they’d hoped to get to Singapore. After some begging, they manage to get a later flight to Phuket via Singapore, for a total of 6400km. When the other two teams land, there’s daylight, an indication that Ida & Tania’s hopes of winning are gone.

If teams thought the road block was too hot, they now get to go to an ice factory to dig through a barrel of ice shavings for an ice cube. Geoff & Tisha have the lead out of the airport, but they get a cab driver who doesn’t have a clue, whereas Vince & Sam get a cab driver who has a rough idea.

From there, they will go to the Lam Hin Pier. Vince & Sam catch another break. Their cab driver came to pick them up with an empty gas tank, but his friend was behind them, so they just switch cabs. As for Geoff & Tisha, their cab driver at least knows where this place is. The task here is to take a traditional longtail Thai fishing boat to search for a fisherman.

The detour is a choice between pull or plunge. In pull, teams must pull up as many as 900 oyster lines until they find the marked oyster shell. In plunge, teams must search the sea floor for a giant clam shell that contains a pearl. It looks like the entire race hinges on this detour, unless Vince & Sam have managed to get an insurmountable lead.

Pull: Vince & Sam (switched from plunge), Geoff & Tisha
Plunge: Ida & Tania

As they’re heading to the detour (and not getting anywhere because they can’t figure out how to row), Geoff & Tisha see that Vince & Sam have finished.

The last task for the race is to dig through a marked area and find a buried treasure chest containing $100,000. The question now becomes just how difficult this digging task is. We’ve seen in the past where digging tasks have cost teams the race (The Amazing Race 5 and The Amazing Race Asia 1) because they couldn’t find anything for hours. It will presumably still be between Vince & Sam and Geoff & Tisha, unless it’s so difficult that somehow Ida & Tania can manage to catch up.

Both teams have found their treasure chests. Now they just need to dig them out.

First: Vince & Sam
Second: Geoff & Tisha
Third: Ida & Tania

The Amazing Race 3 winners are Vince & Sam. I’d suggest it’s a bit tainted by the fact that they quit a task just one leg ago and would have been eliminated if AD & Fuzzie weren’t still in the race, but that notwithstanding, they have run perhaps the best race of any of the teams.

Given the continued ratings success of The Amazing Race Asia, it’s safe to assume we will see The Amazing Race Asia 4 this time next year. In the meantime, stick around for live recaps of the US version, currently The Amazing Race 13.

Survivor: Gabon Episode 10

Following the merge in Survivor: Gabon Episode 9, Sugar had to pick a side to swing to. She opted to side with liars over obnoxious people and voted out Charlie, who was targeted because Ken wanted revenge (or something lame along those lines).

Randy’s starting to realize that making everybody angry with him may well be working to make himself a target. Granted, he also realizes that the closer they get to the finals, the more appealing it may be to keep himself or Crystal around (I’d say Corinne, too, but for some reason there are jury members who like her).

Corinne, Bob, and Randy are the only ones who Sugar has not told about having the immunity idol. So who does Bob pick to tell he’s got a fake idol? Sugar, of course, who has apparently offered him no reason to do so.

Corinne still thinks that everybody else is stupid. Has she looked around and noticed that her alliance is the one getting beat?

Randy’s plan? He’ll continue to be his same charming self. Oh, and like Corinne, he hates everybody, too.

Now that the Kota 6 sucks as bad as the Sovereign 6 did, Randy and Corinne want to offer the finals to a new person: Matty. As if they have that kind of power.

Contestants head to the Survivor auction. Beer and peanuts is the first item up for grabs. Sugar and Randy get in a bidding war, and Randy takes it for $180. She says she was just trying to screw him over by raising the price. Ken and Randy get in a bidding war over a covered item. Ken pays $340 for a piece of paper. He has the choice between sending himself or someone else to Exile. The good news is that if he sends them, he takes all their money, so it wasn’t completely moronic to pay that much for something covered. He sends Bob. Once again Randy and Ken get into a bidding war over a covered item. Sugar jumps in at the last minute and goes $340. Chocolate and peanutbutter. Worth it. And unlike Jenna and Heidi, she didn’t even have to strip. Randy is outbid by Susie, who pays $340 for a hot bath. Randy and Ken go at it again, but Matty jumps in eventually and pays $400 for a cheeseburger, fries, and a soda. Susie decides her $340 bath is too hot and hops out. Ken and Randy again, and Randy gets the covered spaghetti, garlic bread, and wine for $280. Without hesitation, Corinne bids all $500 for an advantage at the next immunity challenge.

Jeff offers something covered for the tribe for the first $20, and Randy buys the chocolate chip cookies. Randy questions if he can have them all for himself, a foolish statement. Jeff repeats: for the tribe. Sugar declines. Then Randy lets the others know he’s the boss and offers Corinne two. Corinne takes one and a half. Randy gives the other half to Matty. He offers to Sugar again, who accepts… then promptly gives her cookie to Matty. As for Randy? He’s left with an empty tray, and so he can play the martyr, he declines the half a cookie Corinne offers him. The Survivor auction is over. Randy promises to be an asshat to Sugar, as if he weren’t before.

When they get back to camp, Matty thanks Sugar for the cookie. Randy lets him know the cookie was from him, not from Sugar. Then he lets everybody know he’s not playing with half a deck.

Bob decides to go for the clue over comfort. Again he doesn’t realize that somebody else must have found the idol by now. He gets a clue that doesn’t help him any, so he decides to just go see the sights instead.

The plan is to get rid of Randy. Matty says Bob should go next because Randy and Corinne aren’t going to win anything.

Randy has a plan. He’s going to be mean and nasty to everybody. Yeah, that’s apparently something new in his mind. Here’s the catch. He wants Bob to give him the idol. He gets the feeling Bob probably found the immunity idol (yet nobody found it the first 8 times there). They hope to get revenge on Susie for wisely turning on them. Matty asks Randy to stop being a putz, but when he gets a no, he decides that Randy indeed does need to go home.

Part one of the immunity challenge is to cross balance beams with bags of puzzle pieces. The first two people across must arrange the blocks like dominos to raise a flag while avoiding trip ropes. Corinne’s advantage is to sit out for the first stage of the challenge. She is automatically part of the final round. Matty is first across. Ken is behind him, with Bob and Susie next. Matty has his second bag, followed by Ken, and presumably those two will be in the finals. Matty moves on. Susie gets her second bag. Ken moves on to the final against Matty and Corinne. Matty’s off to an early lead. Ken knocks over his pieces and has to start over. Matty’s done first but hesitates. Ken is the first one to try, but he only manages to knock over a few blocks and must try again. Matty goes back and is ready to try, with both Ken and Corinne deciding shortly after to go for it. Matty is close but comes up short. Corinne also comes up short. Ken wins immunity.

Bob tells Sugar he doesn’t have the idol. She suggests he should vote against Randy to save face. Then she decides Bob should give the hidden idol to Randy because she wants a laugh. Corinne approaches him, and he says he did find the idol. As agreed, he’ll give the fake idol to Randy. Looks like an idol to him. Looks like an idol to me, too.

The cookie issue comes up again in tribal council. Not just comes up but becomes the entire focus of the tribal council. Not quite as petty as two cherries, but petty nonetheless. Randy says he will not be okay with leaving (and no doubt will be bitter…er) if it’s him tonight.

Although the outcome is a foregone conclusion, the voting speeches prove entertaining. Sugar says Randy is a disgusting, old, hot headed, chauvanistic, alcoholic bigot who needs to grow up before he dies alone. Randy says his vote is not strategy but entirely personal, which is always the wrong kind of vote. Crystal is more loudly obnoxious than usual, so loud in fact that everybody can hear her. Unlike Sugar’s diatribe, she’s not saying it with a smile on her face. Somebody needs some anger management.

Randy plays his fake idol. The others can barely contain themselves from laughing.

By a vote of 4-3, Randy has been voted off the island. For some reason, Bob gave Randy a fake idol, but then didn’t vote against him. The bridge is a little too burned for him to not vote with the majority here.

The Biggest Loser Families Episode 10

Following Ed’s return to the game, which effectively made Amy C an endangered fifth wheel, Amy chose wisely as she turned on the blue team and voted out Brady in The Biggest Loser Families Episode 9. Interestingly, although the episode was uncomfortable to watch in parts, it nonetheless generated a large volume of conversation (mostly among people who hate Vicky), and resulted in the best ratings of the season.

Amy says she took out the second highest percentage in the house (herself being the highest). After the vote, Michelle tells her she can trust her, even if she maybe can’t trust her own team.

Vicky says that Amy is a “stupid backstabbing bitch” who messed up the whole game for “us” (us being her and her actual alliance presumably). Oh yeah, we can see the claws are going to come out and stay out already. Heba’s realized her alliance is dead, so she’s just going to work with Ed on staying above the yellow line.

Vicky tells us that, when she woke up, she was in a really bad mood (as if she isn’t in a bad mood the rest of the time). She puts up a sign letting Amy know her feelings: “Revenge. Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me.” She decides she doesn’t want to say anything to Amy because if she says something it’s going to be mean and ugly. I missed the part that wasn’t apparently. Bob figures Vicky’s motivation of revenge is going to bite her eventually.

Bob goes to talk to Amy. He wants to just be supportive, regardless of whether she’s playing the game or not. His message is that it’s okay for her to take care of herself first for once. She promises him that she’s a really hard worker and won’t let him down.

Everybody’s standing outside as a time machine pulls up. Alison believes she’s from the 80s. They even got her talking like she’s from then. It’s like totally 80s week. The contestants get to dress up horribly to match, complete with legwarmers, entirely too tight shorts for Ed, and headbands.

The workouts are also going back to the 80s. Jillian’s got her team breakdancing. Bob hopes to get his team to have a little fun together. He has them do what’s apparently an 80s workout. Once that’s done, he wants to discuss just moving forward with them. He gives a speech; nobody else cares to comment.

The challenge is 80s trivia. A correct answer will allow them add water to someone else (I’d have opted for green slime). An incorrect answer will mean water is added to their barrel. The winner will get $5,000 in cash… or the chance to hit someone else with a one pound penalty. They start off holding 50% of their body weight.

The obesity rates have nearly doubled, tripled, or quadrupled since 1980 (this is an 80s trivia question?)? The answer is doubled. Ed is incorrect and gets water added to his barrel, an additional 25% of his body weight.

One of the most popular workout videos promised buns of…? Heba is correct with steel. She adds water to Coleen.

The National Institute of Health classified obesity as a disease in 1985. True or false? Coleen is correct with true. She adds water to Ed, as a sort of payback to Heba, and Ed’s now holding 100% of his body weight. With that, Ed’s out.

The percentage of Americans with diabetes has increased by what percent since 1980? 100%, 200%, or 300%? Coleen is incorrect, as the correct answer is 300%. She gets weight added to her barrel.

Twenty years ago, US teenage boys drank twice as much milk as soda. Today they drink twice as much soda as milk. True or false? Amy is correct with true. She adds water to Vicky. Now we are amused.

Today the most common women’s dress size is 14. In 1985, it was size 8, 10, or 12? Renee is incorrect, as the correct answer was 8. She gets water added. After that, Amy slips and is out. Coleen follows her.

Today women between 20-39 are eating an average of an extra 385 calories a day compared to the 1980s. That’s enough to gain 20 pounds, 26.7 pounds, or 35.8 pounds a year? Heba is incorrect, as the correct answer is 26.7. She has water added. Vicky drops after that, which Amy takes as good news for her.

Who won a Grammy for a music video that featured her working out in a leotard? Heba guesses Olivia Newton John (Let’s Get Physical) correctly. She adds water to Renee, who’s up to 125% of her body weight. After that, Heba loses her concentration and is out.

That leaves mother/daughter Renee and Michelle as the last two. Renee drops and lets Michelle win.

Bob tells Vicky she needs to bury the hatchet, preferably not in the back of Amy’s skull. She doesn’t want a loose cannon on her team. She also doesn’t want to hear about how blue’s still up 4-3 and she’s throwing away the advantage if she refuses to even make an effort.

Jillian’s goal with the last chance workout is to see how many people she can make cry. Looks like all of them. At least none of them quit, though. They just keep going as she throws more at them.

Coleen is already fitting in her goal closet item. Her medium top fits her, down from her starting size of XXL.

Amy apologizes to Vicky and says she didn’t lie but just changed her mind. She says she didn’t trust her, nor should she have. Vicky accepts her apology but doesn’t trust her at all. Heba thinks Amy sounds sincere but also realizes this makes it so both sides won’t vote her out because both sides still need her.

At the weigh-in, Michelle has to decide between the $5k and the one pound advantage. She takes the pound penalty instead of the money. She decides to give the penalty to Vicky.

Michelle: 186 pounds (-8, 4.12%)
Renee: 207 pounds (-8, 3.72%)
Ed: 262 pounds (-11, 4.03%)
Heba: 231 pounds (-7, 2.94%)
Coleen: 167 pounds (-3, 1.76%)

After Coleen weighs in, Coleen and Jillian have a breakdown. Bob can’t quite figure out why she’s already acting defeated with two people left.

Amy: 173 pounds (-8, 4.42%)
Vicky: 187 pounds (-6, +1, 2.59%)

Thanks to the one pound penalty, Vicky has fallen below the yellow line, alongside Coleen. Once again Amy will be the deciding vote. Vicky’s not expecting Amy to keep her considering all the swearing she’s done in her direction, nor should she be expecting it. Vicky is both a bigger threat and a bigger annoyance. Her strategy in the elimination room? She works too much and has kids at home. If that’s such a big obstacle, how does it make a difference whether she goes home now or weeks from now?

Votes
Michelle: Vicky
Renee: Vicky
Ed: Coleen
Heba: Coleen
Amy: Coleen

By a vote of 3-2, Coleen has been eliminated. I don’t get it. Last week’s vote shocked me some, but this takes the cake. Vicky has been so hateful toward Amy, and Coleen has 20 pounds less to lose. This means that Vicky lives to see another day, and she’s back in power in the game. Coleen is down from her starting pants size of 22 to a size 10 today.

Stay tuned to dingoRUE for another live recap of The Biggest Loser Families episode 11, which airs Tuesday at 8/7c on NBC.

Ace Gordon Survivor Gabon Arrested

Well, that didn’t take long. Ace Gordon, who was recently voted off the island in Survivor: Gabon, was arrested in Naples, FL yesterday on charges of disorderly intoxication, obstruction of an officer, and resisting arrest without violence.

Staff members at Sway Lounge said he struck a woman in the bar before being asked to leave. Then, he reached toward a deputy’s face “in an aggressive manner,” whatever that means. The bar’s manager later indicated that he had an incident with a woman, but that it was actually the man she was with who he slapped.

Reports suggest that he repeatedly told the deputies that he was famous.

The Amazing Race 13 Episode 8

Kelly & Christy finally got off my screen in The Amazing Race 13 Episode 7. Not far ahead of them were Andrew & Dan, who by some miracle keep just barely surviving in second to last every week. Meanwhile, Nick & Starr continued their dominance with another first place finish.

60 Minutes looks like it’s about half an hour late. A live recap will begin when 60 Minutes concludes.

Teams depart in the order in which they arrived.

First: Nick & Starr – 10:14PM
Second: Toni & Dallas – 10:24PM
Third: Terence & Sarah – 10:43PM
Fourth: Ken & Tina – 11:48PM
Fifth: Andrew & Dan – 12:00AM

Nick’s wondering when someone will finally blow past them. Starr and Dallas are just wondering when they’ll be left alone so they can work on getting a room. Hormones aside, they work together at the travel agency to book a flight that should get them ahead of everybody else.

Terence wants to be a big bundle of nerves, while Sarah hopes to be able to relax. Ken & Tina (still) know they need to communicate.

Teams will fly to Almaty, Kazakhstan, a new location for the race, following closely on the heels of Borat. The first destination when they land is a chicken factory. Ken & Tina somehow manage to get on the first flight, though the team that left an hour before them is searching around the airport to see what their options are. Terence & Sarah end up about an hour and a half behind. It’s unclear how far behind Andrew & Dan are, but considering the second flight lands at 1:20AM, this is an hours of operation bunching waiting to happen.

First flight: Nick & Starr, Toni & Dallas, Ken & Tina
Second flight: Terence & Sarah
Third flight: Andrew & Dan

They arrive at the chicken factory and find out it’s not opening until 7:30. Lucky thing they were so bunched up because Dan & Andrew were hours behind. All teams are even for the road block.

The road block is to enter a chicken shack and search among 30,000 chickens for one of seven golden eggs. That’s not all, though. It’s fast forward time. The fast forward is to join in a feast where the main ingredient is the fat from the rear end of a sheep. Nick & Starr and Terence & Sarah both go dashing for the fast forward. Don’t do it. One of these teams is better off swallowing their pride and letting the other do it. If you lose out on this, you’re just asking to be last. On top of the fact that fast forwards are pretty unpredictable. Sarah tells Terence she doesn’t think it’s a good idea, but he doesn’t listen.

Nick & Starr arrive slightly before Terence & Sarah, but unfortunately for them it’s not first come first served like the previous fast forward was. Whoever eats the food first will win the fast forward. And whoever doesn’t win the fast forward will be in for a world of hurt. Starr doesn’t want to read the part of the menu that says what the food is. Terence is a vegetarian, who hasn’t eaten meat in over 15 years. Despite that, he’s just going to go for it, although he doesn’t actually seem to be eating anything. He shouldn’t have even bothered trying, and eventually realizes that he won’t be able to finish, reluctantly agreeing to quit. Now all Nick & Starr have to do is get the sheep’s butt down.

Road block: Andrew, Tina, Toni, Sarah

Teams will need to find and travel by crane truck to the Koktobe Arch in the mountains and look for a Mongol warrior, where their clue will be carried to them by bird. Andrew & Dan somehow get lost along the way, although the first two teams seem to have no trouble. I wonder: are they really that lost, or is this all manufactured for drama so we believe Terence & Sarah have a prayer? Apparently frustrated with the country as a whole, Dan starts yelling at Andrew for not keeping up with him.

The detour is a choice between play like mad or act like fools. In play like mad, they must learn to play a tune using two traditional instruments, then go to the park and earn $1.50 in tips. In act like fools, they must walk the streets dressed like cows to find a stall with milk for them to drink, then bring themselves to the butcher.

Act like fools: Toni & Dallas, Ken & Tina, Andrew & Dan, Terence & Sarah

Toni & Dallas decide to have fun with this. Tina drinks the milk but didn’t read the whole clue. Dallas also didn’t read the whole clue but does so immediately after finishing his milk. After asking for directions, Tina realizes she was indeed at the right place the first time, then they decide they need to take their cow costume back where they got it (rather than to the butcher like they’re supposed to). Dallas tells them they need their costume, but they try to go without it anyway. Then Tina wants to take a cab to the pit stop, but luckily Ken tells her they have to walk. Andrew & Dan both miss this part of the clue, though, and they grab a cab, so they need to go back and do it correctly.

The pit stop for this leg of the race is Old Square, a public plaza in the oldest part of the city.

First: Nick & Starr
Second: Toni & Dallas
Third: Ken & Tina
Fourth: Andrew & Dan
Eliminated: Terence & Sarah

Terence & Sarah were one of the strongest teams and should have been in the final three, but they made a dumb decision (as did Nick & Starr) that it was pretty obvious they should not have made. As for Andrew & Dan, they’re past their expiration date.

Stay tuned to dingoRUE for another live recap of The Amazing Race 13 Episode 9 That Is Studly, which airs Sunday at 8/7cish on CBS.

The Amazing Race Asia 3 Episode 10

Their performance at the detour followed by being U-turned led to AD & Fuzzie being last in The Amazing Race Asia 3 Episode 9, but they were non-eliminated and lived to see another day.

Teams depart in the order in which they arrived.

First: Vince & Sam – 12:01AM
Second: Ida & Tania – 12:17AM
Third: Geoff & Tisha – 1:14AM
Fourth: AD & Fuzzie – 2:40AM

The next destination is Bhaja Caves, 60km outside of Pune. Based on the times, they’ll obviously hit an hours of operation. It opens at 8:15. This will give everybody a bit of time to rest but also makes sure they’re all together to begin the task.

Apparently, they came all the way out to the caves and hit an hours of operation only to be told they have to go back to Pune and go to the train station to see a statue of Mahatma Gandhi. As we’ve seen in prior seasons of TAR, these trains are jam packed, but it doesn’t seem too traumatic. In order to proceed, they need to know the year Mahatma Gandhi was born when they get to Standard Chartered Bank. Ida & Tania wrote down everything… except what they needed to know. AD & Fuzzie didn’t even go to the statue and instead went straight to the bank. Both of these teams just ask the locals, who know right away. Vince & Sam got the year the statue was put up rather than the year Gandhi was born, as did Geoff & Tisha. Vince & Sam found out the correct year from their taxi driver before arriving. This appears to be quite the simple question for the locals, as three teams didn’t even complete the task correctly but got the answer right anyway. Geoff & Tisha, however, entered an incorrect answer three times, insistent that Gandhi was born in 1977, which means they receive a 10 minute penalty.

From there, teams are told to go to Muscat, Oman. All teams get on the same flight from Pune via Mumbai, a journey of over 1700km.

The first stop in Oman is Al Alam Palace. The teams are warned to beware of wild animals, including camels, donkeys, and goats, while driving. Tish never drives a manual car (one of the fundamental skills needed for the race at some point or another) and just took lessons before leaving for the race.

After arriving at the palace, teams are told to drive 140km to Nizwa Fort. Hours of operation again, this time 7:00, which once again lets everybody catch up. There they must search multiple clue boxes for the right one. Fuzzie says she has no motivation but isn’t giving up, although it sounds like they already gave up last leg.

From there they will go to Mutrah Souq. Is it here that we’re finally going to see an actual task? Anticipating an intersection, Geoff & Tisha get a cab and split it with Vince & Sam. Both teams wish to continue working together on the detour.

The detour is a choice between carpet or count it. In carpet, teams must match a unique piece of the design on carpets with photos on their camera. In count it, teams must count the exact number of dried limes. Neither is a very appealing task, but counting tasks normally drive people mad.

Count it: Ida & Tania, Vince & Sam, AD & Fuzzie, Geoff & Tisha (switched from count it to carpet to count it to carpet to count it)

Ida & Tania guess incorrectly, and they’re followed by an incorrect guess by Vince & Sam. And then Geoff & Tisha. Geoff wants to switch tasks, but Tisha wants to give it another shot. I wouldn’t bother if it were me. Counting 1500 or 2000 of an object has been the downfall of many a team. He gets his way and they switch. Ida & Tania are incorrect the second time. AD & Fuzzie are wrong on their first try. Vince & Sam are wrong on their first try as well. Immediately upon arrival at the next detour, Tisha repeatedly tells Geoff it’s the wrong choice. This time she gets her way, and they switch back to counting. On their second guess, Vince & Sam are correct. They don’t bother telling their allies what answer they got. Geoff & Tisha’s second guess is incorrect. She agrees to switch back to the rugs. Hopefully this time she’ll make more of an effort at it instead of dismissing it as a bad idea. Ida & Tania are correct on their next guess, and it appears that the baskets don’t have the same number of limes, so the boys wouldn’t have been able to help Geoff & Tisha anyway. Oh, and by the way, Geoff & Tisha are on their way back to count again. AD & Fuzzie count incorrectly but just guess one lower and get it correct. Geoff & Tisha finally manage to finish the detour.

The next stop is Wadi Tanuf, two and a half hours away. Nobody is having any luck finding this place. The locals don’t seem to know where it is, the map doesn’t match the road and vice versa, and half of what they’re seeing isn’t in English anyway. Hopelessly lost Vince & Sam decide to follow hopelessly lost Ida & Tania. Geoff & Tisha eventually run into those teams, and they’re also lost. And then AD & Fuzzie run into everybody else. They all manage to find it together.

The road block is to tyrolean traverse across a canyon. Teams three and four must wait for the first two teams to finish.

Road block (in order of arrival): Sam, Ida, Geoff, Fuzzie

The pit stop for this leg of the race is nearby, and they will travel there on foot, meaning it all comes down to the road block placement. Ida makes it through the road block fairly quickly. Geoff flies through it in seemingly a matter of seconds. Sam eventually gives up and agrees to take a 4 hour penalty. Their only prayer now is that Fuzzie also gives up. Unsurprisingly, she quits as well.

First: Ida & Tania (win $2,500US each)
Second: Geoff & Tisha
Third: Vince & Sam
Eliminated: AD & Fuzzie

Vince & Sam lucked out, as they probably would have been eliminated against almost any other team. All things considered, AD & Fuzzie did quite well despite their lack of ability in physical challenges and ambling through the race, but it caught up with them eventually.
