Survivor: Heroes Vs. Villains Episode 10

After weeding out all the strong players, the Villains finally got rid of some dead weight in Survivor: Heroes Vs. Villains Episode 9. The real story was that JT threw his hidden immunity idol away by giving it to an enemy, Russell of all people.

Treemail sends the Villains with a map to the Heroes camp and a key.

Russell’s story is that he didn’t do as instructed just in case both he and Parvati played idols. This is not going to be a hard sell to JT, who just assumes that both Russell and Parvati played idols before even hearing a word.

Nobody is surprised to find out they are merging. Jerri suggests naming their tribe All Villains.

Parvati realizes that nobody wants her there either.

Sandra’s got a reality check for Rupert, one he’ll consider cashing if he wants to survive. Whatever Russell says, he’s lying. I’m still struggling to identify who to root for here. The Heroes are a bunch of idiots, but Russell needs to be knocked down a few pegs.

Rupert is now becoming the voice of reason. JT refuses to believe Russell hasn’t flipped. Even Amanda doesn’t believe it, and I thought she was the smart one. Their plan is to vote for somebody other than who they tell Russell they’re voting for. That’s about as far as they’re willing to go to humor Rupert.

Amanda warns Parvati what she already knows: everybody wants her gone. After Amanda promises to be really honest with her, Parvati has to tell her something. She has an idol, which Amanda interprets to mean she’s got another idol. As much as Amanda may possibly be willing to work with Parvati, neither of them fully trust each other, and Amanda views Parvati as a threat to beat her (again).

The new tribe name turns out to be Yin-Yang.

Individual immunity is now what they seek. Last person hanging on a pole wins. JT, Candice, and Parvati have all competed in this challenge previously. This will probably go to a woman. Amanda, Colby, and Sandra start off quickly inching down their poles. Sandra and Colby are the first ones eliminated. Russell is the next one down. Rupert’s out next. 20 minutes elapse before Amanda is eliminated. JT drops next. After an hour and a half, Parvati’s just hanging around getting a tan. Jerri is the next one down. Candice, Parvati, and Danielle all remain at the top. Candice wishes them luck as she goes to step down. Before she steps down, Jeff asks why seeing as he considers her the odds on favorite. Her reasoning: they look like they could go for a while. Danielle ain’t giving up. Parvati already has an idol that Danielle wouldn’t mind her burning. So Parvati agrees to drop. Danielle wins immunity. Perhaps not the strategically best move, but better safe three more days than possibly not I suppose.

The Heroes will be voting for Sandra or Jerri but plan to tell Russell they’re going to get rid of Parvati.

Sandra realizes she’s stuck with Russell for now, whether she likes it or not.

Russell’s plan is to give his idol to Parvati again. Well, she doesn’t need one since she’s already got one, but she could always use a second.

Amanda tells Parvati she’d better play that idol, just in case, which Parvati can tell is a lie.

So who are the Villains voting for? Whatever they do, they should plan to be a united front for a change. Russell’s target is his new buddy JT.

Rupert hopes this vote reveals Russell to be a liar.

Parvati hands her idol over to Sandra. Interesting. Too bad she picked the wrong person since the Heroes targeted Jerri, believing that she’s the least likely person to receive an idol from someone. The Heroes smile realizing the error in Parvati’s ways. Oh, but it ain’t over yet. Jerri, you can have one, too. Okay, hard not to be a Parvati fan after that. Within 5 seconds, she outsmarted all the Heroes while keeping her side safe, made Amanda realize she’s not a convincing enough liar, secured some goodwill from Jerri and Sandra, and knocked Russell off his high horse.

One of the best tribal councils ever. With 3 votes, JT has been voted off the island. He got himself served. He’s learned not to trust Villains. Or women.

Having kept Russell in the dark, despite the fact that her plan saved the day, Parvati now has some explaining to do about her little secret.

Tonight’s show is running way, way over. Again. Incompetence. Anybody waiting for the results on Tivo is gonna be disappointed. Not just over. 25 minutes over. Seriously? Is it really that hard to produce a reality TV show?

Aaron Kelly is the first person to return to safety. Tim Urban has finally reached the end of the road. Sorry, Tim, no time for you to sing one last time.

American Idol Season 9 Episode 32

Katie Stevens and Andrew Garcia were both eliminated in American Idol Season 9 Episode 31. Tonight the top 7 will sing inspirational songs with mentor Alicia Keys.

Casey James
Song: Don’t Stop by Fleetwood Mac
Randy: Good but not your best. Same thing every week.
Ellen: Great guitar playing. Nobody will be talking about that tomorrow.
Kara: Made yourself like everybody else tonight.
Simon: Not particularly inspiring. Zero emotion. No originality. Lazy.

Lee DeWyze
Song: The Boxer by Simon & Garfunkel
Randy: Great artist ready to make great music.
Ellen: Beautiful song choice. So much soul and depth.
Kara: Had your moment tonight.
Simon: Sincere, emotional, inspirational. Made it sound as if it was written a week ago. Brilliant.

Tim Urban
Song: Better Days by the Goo Goo Dolls
Randy: Just kind of like okay good karaoke.
Ellen: Kind of like the soup of the day. Didn’t like the soup today.
Kara: In the right lane, but not your best performance.
Simon: Would be quite impressed if this were the first time we’d seen you. Maybe a step too high for you. But you have improved.

Aaron Kelly
Song: I Believe I Can Fly by R Kelly (brave)
Randy: Strange arrangement, but you’ve got a huge voice.
Ellen: I believe you can fly.
Kara: By the end, you were flying.
Simon: Gave it your all. Would have turned it off in the real world. Not very good, but you kind of made it quite good.

Siobhan Magnus
Song: When You Believe by Whitney Houston and Mariah Carey (even braver)
Randy: Don’t know why you picked a song by two amazing singers. Just okay.
Ellen: That’s why you’re here.
Kara: Technically, really well sung, but this is not a musical. Still don’t know who you are.
Simon: Not the right song. Old fashioned arrangement. All over the place.

Michael Lynche
Song: Hero by Nickelback
Randy: Worried about the song choice, but you held your own.
Ellen: Great job. And we’re short on time (again/still).
Kara: Not my favorite performance. Don’t have the tone for that song.
Simon: Sang pretty well. Felt artificial.

Crystal Bowersox
Song: People Get Ready by The Impressions
Randy: Standing ovation.
Ellen: Get more beautiful and keep getting better.
Kara: Schooled all the contestants on how to do it.
Simon: Inspirational. In a completely different class.

The Biggest Loser Season 9 Episode 14

Sam and Andrea fell below the yellow line (again) in The Biggest Loser Season 9 Episode 13, leading to Andrea’s departure.

We start off with a temptation. There’s a room upstairs filled with food, some healthy and some not so healthy. They will eat every meal in that room because the kitchen is closed. The person who has eaten the most calories at the end of the day will be able to cast the only vote for the week, as long as they do not fall below the yellow line.

O’Neal has a normal breakfast. Sunshine’s plan is just to eat what she would normally eat. Sam’s hoping his advantage is that he eats more calories than anybody else on the ranch, so if everybody behaves, he wins. However, he asks Koli to have his back anyway, so Koli will be going wild with a 1545 calorie breakfast. Michael doesn’t have any interest in playing because he wants somebody else to be the bad guy. Victoria also plans a regular day. Koli’s back for lunch: 2064 calories. By the end of the day, Ashley’s fighting with herself, finally opting to eat a taquito that she doesn’t like. O’Neal grabs some fries to go with his burgers but decides against eating them. He also gives them some good footage by pretending he’s going to eat a cookie. Koli’s final temptation meal brings him to 4164 calories for the day. That would be hard for anybody else to top, and ultimately nobody else is trying. The second highest total was Daris at 1556 calories.

Jillian can’t figure out why Koli’s so attached to Sam, who doesn’t need to be there any more. Everybody else is worried that they’re facing a red line because if they fall below the line with Sam, they’re going home.

During the workout, Victoria’s still doing her head down/staring off into space thing. Meanwhile, Ashley starts crying following the loss of Andrea.

In contrast, O’Neal manages to do the pushups like all the younger guys have been doing them. That should take away the grey hair jokes for a while.

Dr. H is back to update the contestants on their status. Michael had an 84% risk rate of various diseases, compared to 1% average for a 31 year old. His new numbers have improved him to 31% and lowered his age from 54 to 42. Ashley learned she was a diabetic, but now her blood sugar is normal.

Alison greets them in front of one of her contraptions. Following a lot of bad wordplay, the challenge is revealed. They each have 175 building blocks. Their goal is to stack them so that they can get to their flag first. Reward is a 1 pound advantage. Penalty for the last place finisher is a 1 pound disadvantage. Having done construction work in the past, Michael hopes to guide Ashley so that she does not get the penalty. Daris plans to use as few blocks as possible. Koli and Sam go right to making a tower, which may present a challenge as far as climbing. Eventually, Ashley decides to ignore Michael and his elaborate structure. At some point, he decides to ignore his instincts, too. Daris is the first person to make his climb up his structure. Sam sees this and follows suit. Both grab hold of the ladder, and both promptly get sent back to the drawing board. Daris climbs up for a second go. This time he looks like he’s got plenty of room to move, which he does, completing the challenge first. Koli is the second person to the top. Victoria is the first person to partially knock over her structure. Sunshine takes third place, followed by Sam.

Going down for one more block, O’Neal comes down hard on his leg, falling on his back on the concrete. He’s hauled away on a stretcher. By default, he will face the disadvantage. When he returns from the hospital, he has good news that it was not a fracture or a tear, but he’ll have to keep it wrapped up in his Walgreens brand ice pack.

They will all be going to the beach to meet a special guest, pro volleyball player Gabrielle Reece, who’s there to promote Danskin Now and Starter, and then she works them out in the sand.

O’Neal’s already having a rough week, which has now gotten worse. He gets a phone call that his brother has died. Rather than drowning his sorrows in food, he heads into the gym and boxes Jillian, but he can only keep up the brave front for so long before losing it.

But the game goes on. It’s time to weigh in.

Koli: 260 pounds (-10, 3.70%, immune) – indulging (and even overindulging) really doesn’t matter, as long as it’s not an every meal sort of thing
Daris: 219 pounds (-7, -1, 3.54%)
Michael: 358 pounds (-5, 1.38%)
Ashley: 254 pounds (-4, 1.55%)
Sam: 246 pounds (-6, 2.38%)
Victoria: 266 pounds (-1, 0.37%)
O’Neal: 270 pounds (-8, +1, 2.52%)
Sunshine: 191 pounds (-1, 0.52%)

Victoria and Sunshine have fallen below the yellow line. That means that Koli does not have to worry about saving either Sam or O’Neal. No question Victoria needs to be there more, although she seemed to be doing better at home than she’s been doing at the ranch. However, it’s no secret how close Sunshine is to the cousins, and this has been a season of voting based on friendships, regardless of what they say about hating gameplay.

Vote
Koli: Victoria

In his voting, Koli tells her she does not work hard enough. With 1 vote, Victoria is not The Biggest Loser. From her starting weight of 358 pounds, she is now down to 240 pounds. She and her mom decide to redo that first challenge, which her mother was unable to finish. Cherita may not have spent one night on the ranch, but she’s doing just fine on her own, having dropped 77 pounds from her starting weight of 277.

The Celebrity Apprentice 3 Episode 6

Two people went home in The Celebrity Apprentice 3 Episode 5. In typical double standard Trump fashion, Michael Johnson was told to get lost when he said he had to leave and was unsure whether he would be back (but should know when his plane lands), although Sharon Osbourne and Cyndi Lauper were given free passes for the week. Then, after the men won for a change against the dysfunctional women’s team, Selita Ebanks was fired because she did not have enough passion. Translation: her unwillingness to fight makes her a less interesting boardroom candidate.

Holly’s mad at Cyndi, as usual. This time, she doesn’t think she should have said anything in the boardroom because she wasn’t there for the task.

In addition to the $20k that Curtis won for winning the task, Clyde Drexler has brought a matching donation for Feeding America from Right Guard.

Trace Adkins will be one of the people following the contestants this week. They know this means music. The task is to makeover two young country artists for an interview and performance. They will be judged on the makeover, press kit, and whatever value they can add to the artist.

Cyndi steps forward for the women. Strangely enough, Goldberg is appointed by Bret for the men.

Holly wants Cyndi to be aware that she’s a singer, apparently, and not just someone from Hangin with Mr. Cooper. Maria, likewise, wants to be a singer as well. Neither of them are getting the sense that Cyndi wants their opinion.

Curtis was expecting two young kids, but in reality they get people have been doing this for a while now. The two choices are Luke Bryan and Emily West, both artists who have already released albums and have had some small amount of success.

Cyndi wants the female singer (the one who loves her) because she’s not sure how much she can do with the guy. The other girls don’t put up a fight.

Summer tells Cyndi they’re going to have to go into there negotiating like lawyers, which is something Cyndi is not comfortable with. One thing these women do have down is how to fight with each other.

Bret makes some phone calls to people in the business. Unlike Cyndi, he’d like to get some feedback from others with experience with these artists. Despite that, he has no preference nor opinion. Pick either one.

At the negotiation, nobody wants to talk first. When they realize their plan to get the guys to give everything away won’t work, Cyndi says she likes the girl. That said, Bret says go ahead and take her.

Once that’s behind them, the women get back to arguing.

Bret wants to bring out the rock star in Luke, hopefully minus the guyliner. Goldberg starts asking questions about his eye color and whether he’ll unbutton his shirt.

Cyndi really doesn’t want to leave, but since Maria’s been complaining about how her idol isn’t paying attention to her, she reluctantly agrees to leave to go shopping. Maria will handle the hair and makeup.

Bret prepares Luke for his interview with People, while the women leave it up to Maria, who says she’s got experience from her Playboy interviews about whether she’s shaved or not.

Bret’s struggle is that Luke knows exactly what he wants. They’re going to struggle to change him very much.

In the middle of the task, Sharon has returned. She wishes she’d been there the whole time because she could do this in her sleep.

When they return from their shopping trip, Cyndi says she’s horrified by the makeup, which doesn’t look anything like the picture. With Sharon back in the picture, Cyndi at least has one person she’s willing to listen to.

Trace senses that maybe not everybody from the women’s team is onboard. If it were him, he’d give her free reign and let her do whatever she wants her to.

In contrast, the men realize that this is all about Bret. Perhaps too much. When the rest of the team is stuck in traffic, Bret’s starting to panic. They’ll be left with maybe 20 minutes for the photo shoot.

During their photo shoot, Maria’s still steaming that her input is not wanted by Cyndi.

The interviewer thinks that Emily seems to have something she really wants to say, a little more focused than usual.

Goldberg would like it if Luke said “you know” 40 times less, while he seems to have forgotten the one thing Bret emphasized, saying he’s tired. From there, it’s time to select some pictures. The problem is that Luke really doesn’t want to be made over, and isn’t too happy about most of the pictures. Trace tells him that, if this is outside of his deal, he needs to broaden his deal.

The women are worried about some things they’ve left off their press kit, but it’s too late to do anything about that now.

Looking at the press kit, the judges are not sure they get fun from Emily, even if she did take beautiful (too formal) pictures. As for Luke, they wish they’d seen the smile on his face, like Goldberg kept telling him to do.

In the boardroom, Maria says that she thinks it would have been good for Cyndi to listen a little more. Cyndi’s response is that Maria sometimes stuck herself in where she didn’t belong. Her strongest player was everybody, except Maria.

Bret reveals that he didn’t get the answer he wanted to hear, but his daughter will be fine.

Goldberg delegated most of the task to Bret, who probably should have been appointed as the project manager to begin with, but the men stick by their decision to give each person/charity a fair shot.

Never afraid to speak her mind, Sharon thinks the guys did a much better job with their press kit. Trace thinks the one they did with Emily was a little more polished, although Trump criticizes the lack of airbrushing. As for Luke, Trace thought that they men were able to get him to do something, although he didn’t go very far. In order for him to become a star, Sharon says that he’d need to be willing to change.

The music industry insiders preferred the men’s press kit. The next point of judgment is the makeover. They thought Emily was more polished and shined in her interview. The women won that point. On the whole, who pushed their artist to make them break out? The judges unanimously selected the ladies to win.

As the winning project manager, Cyndi Lauper gets $20,000 for her charity, the Stonewall Community Foundation for the True Colors Fund. Additionally, Emily and Luke will donate all iTunes proceeds for their new singles for the next month.

While the men may be the more cohesive team, one of their members will now be fired, while the women survive to bicker another week.

Bret accepts the responsibility for the loss if somebody has to be fired. Curtis would fire Bret. Between himself and Bret, Goldberg doesn’t have an answer who should go.

Because he stepped up as project manager for a task for which he shouldn’t have, Goldberg has been fired. Unlike the typical yes men by Trump’s side (usually his children), Trace disagrees with the decision.

Survivor: Heroes Vs. Villains Episode 9

Continuing their trend of voting off their strongest members, the Villains got rid of Coach in Survivor: Heroes Vs. Villains Episode 8.

Jerri’s worried she may be next. A valid concern. If so, she has herself to blame.

Russell promises us that Sandra and Courtney will be the next ones go to, since they’re the ones he doesn’t trust. Heard that one before.

The reward challenge will test their endurance and threshold for pain. This is the one from Tocantins where Coach dramatically fell over at the end. They will have to rank their tribe from strongest to weakest and then compete against the matching rank from the other side. Rupert’s pride tells him he’s the strongest on his tribe, but his tribe doesn’t think that’s a wise move. While Russell would like to be ranked as the strongest on his tribe, they realize as well that this will probably be easiest for the women.

The winning tribe will receive a feast from Outback Steakhouse. By default, Russell will sit out for the Villains, being ranked as their weakest. By order of strongest to weakest, Danielle and Candice, Courtney and Amanda, Parvati and JT (who won this in Tocantins), Colby and Jerri (old friends), and Sandra and Rupert face off against each other. Everybody makes it to the second footholds. After another ten minutes, everybody advances to the third and final set of footholds. Colby is first to fall, and Jerri puts the Villains up 1-0. Rupert’s the next one down, as Sandra takes the lead 2-0. Amanda’s the third person to fall, as the Villains sweep the challenge, a change of pace from their 4 challenge losing streak.

As a side note, Amanda, who placed third in China and second in Micronesia, is the first person in Survivor history to reach the 100 day mark. If only she could stop going to the finals with people who beat her.

Inside Parvati’s napkin is a tiny rolled up clue. Nobody else saw that, so depending on how many people go into her underpants, this should give her an advantage over the rest of her tribe. After, she does show it to Danielle. Danielle doesn’t have any pockets either, but she can stash it in her boobs. For now, Russell doesn’t need to know.

The Villains find it amusing that the other tribe thinks there’s an all girl alliance. However, there is no all girl alliance. So is that a good thing or a bad thing?

JT’s got a plan. If they win the next immunity challenge, JT gives Russell the hidden immunity idol, and he votes out Parvati. Worst. Idea. Ever. Give a hidden idol to the opposing tribe? Really? Amanda’s skeptical. For all they know, he could be in with the girls. Candice says that at least JT wouldn’t have the idol any more, though.

The next morning, Amanda and Danielle go for a walk with a shovel. In their travels, they find the idol pretty quickly. It’s not all about King Russell. It’s about Queen Parvati.

JT proceeds to write his letter to Russell, instructions what to do with the idol. This could turn out to be one of the biggest moves of the season. Too bad it’s going to blow up in JT’s face.

Both tribes will have to move puzzle pieces through a series of obstacles in the water. Sandra sits out for the Villains. Jerri takes a slight lead over Rupert, but that doesn’t last long. JT’s off first to be squaring off against Danielle. Amanda’s got the third bag with a large lead still intact, and she’s going against Parvati. Candice and Courtney take off fourth. There’s just enough time here for Colby to tell Russell to go see JT after the challenge is over. Colby returns first as the Heroes start their puzzle first. Before Russell can get back to the beach, Heroes win immunity. Then JT gives Russell his idol. Wow. Just. Wow.

At the top of the note is a request for Russell to read it in complete privacy. So he lets Parvati read it out loud. Yeah, Parvati finds out that the other tribe all wants her gone, too. She can’t believe that guy actually won.

Apparently, the people in control will be getting rid of Courtney, again. Courtney approaches Parvati to make a deal, which Parvati believes may be a better deal than Russell’s alliance.

Russell says that it’s all about who he can trust. They’re not voting along the lines of who can or cannot help them in challenges. I noticed.

Jerri says she’s not in anybody’s alliance and never was.

With 4 votes, Courtney has been voted off the island. Sandra’s a much bigger threat, although she’s unlikely to win because she already won before.

The winner of Micronesia and the sixth place finisher in Cook Islands, Parvati will join Amanda at the 100 day mark as of tomorrow. The only other person with a shot at hitting that is Rupert, assuming he makes it all the way to the end.
