Big Brother 9 Episode 17

Last night, James went back on his promise to Natalie and nominated Matt as a replacement for Sheila, putting Matt and Ryan in danger of leaving tonight.

Natalie’s obviously upset over the possibility that Matt will leave the house, but in retrospect, she’s ultimately responsible for the outcome this week. All she can do is seek revenge against James.

Sheila assures Ryan: when she makes a decision, it’s a decision. Whatever that means.

Adam’s advice to Matt is to aggressively pursue the others for their votes. He doesn’t care whether it’s a sympathy vote or not. The approach doesn’t work. He gets a bunch of I don’t knows. So his next idea is to confront them and tell them he’s never done anything bad to any of them, whereas Ryan’s a rat who’s screwed over everybody who wants to vote for him to stay. At least it’s better than telling people he doesn’t want to be in sequester for his birthday. Matt does appear to have enough support for a tie, but James is still whining about people lying, so he hates them both.

Julie wants to know why James is a hypocrite. He doesn’t give an answer that makes sense.

Three people believed Allison was going to be in the box. They’re told that Alex was the actual choice. Four people say that if they knew it was Alex in the box, they would have voted to let him in.

It’s Dick and Danielle. How come these people are on my screen again? I may throw up in my mouth again. Danielle tells us she’s no longer dating Nick, though not surprisingly we’re not told that he dumped her for Jen, who Dick was also obsessed over.

Votes
Chelsia-Matt
Joshuah-Matt
Sharon-Matt
Natalie-Ryan
Adam-Ryan
Sheila-Ryan

It’s all tied up, which means James as HOH must decide who leaves.

Considering the way his entire alliance (of sorts) voted, it’s no surprise that James votes to evict Matt, who is the first member of the jury.

The HOH competition is a Q&A about things the evicted houseguests have said in the diary room. Two people will compete, and whoever proceeds chooses which two people go next. Joshuah and Chelsia are up first. Joshuah gets it wrong and is eliminated. Chelsia selects Natalie and Sheila to face off. Natalie gets it right, and Sheila is eliminated. Chelsia and Sharon are next. Chelsia is correct, and Sharon is eliminated. Adam and Natalie go next. Adam is correct, and Natalie is out. Ryan and Chelsia are next. Chelsia is correct, and Ryan is eliminated. Adam steps up for the final round. Adam is correct and wins HOH. The battle lines are pretty clear here, so I would expect Adam would go after the other side, but you never know with this guy. It was interesting that nobody decided to attack Ryan during this competition. It appears both sides believe they can swing him.

Big Brother 9 Spoilers

Big Brother 9 Episode 16

Following his return to the house, James won an endurance competition in Big Brother 9 Episode 15. During the competition, he made a deal with Natalie to not nominate her or Matt. Following this, he made it his mission to make sure the liars in the house paid, nominating Ryan and Sheila.

It’s time for another episode of Bible Buddies. They’re trying to figure out where the holy grail is.

Now that she’s on the block, Sheila takes the opportunity to apologize to Adam for how she treated him at the beginning of the game.

They’re trying to figure out where the third mystery box vote was. Natalie pretends that it was Adam, but Sharon’s not buying.

Sheila’s losing it, becoming even more of an emotional wreck than she was to begin with. The house decides to play a trick on her. They wake her up and pretend the POV is going on in the backyard.

It’s now time to pick players for the real veto competition.

James randomly selects Matt to play for veto.
Sheila randomly selects Chelsia.
Ryan randomly selects Joshuah, believing their alliance will hold.

They walk outside and see a huge guinea pig cage. They’ll need to transport wooden blocks across balance beams two at a time. Whoever falls or drops blocks is eliminated. Matt is the first to fall, saying he didn’t put forth his best effort, which to me doesn’t make a lot of sense. Ryan is the next to fall. Chelsia’s off to the lead, with James close behind. Sheila’s way behind but hopes somebody else will slip and fall from going too fast. She drops a block while trying to retrieve a block from the box, though, and is the next person out of the competition. 1 hour and 13 minutes in, Chelsia continues to lead, but she loses her balance and is out. James manages to get all of his blocks, and he is the winner of the power of veto. He’s happy he has a chance to shake things up, though unless he really doesn’t want one of these people to go, pissing off a third person doesn’t make much sense.

Natalie tells Sheila that if things stay the same, it will be really hard for her to choose between the two. Sheila is pissed off about this, too. Her conversation with Adam, who says he doesn’t want to think about it until after the veto ceremony, leads her to believe she’s all alone in the house. She goes to talk to James and throws Adam under the bus. He suggests that maybe Matt or Adam will leave this week because neither will come clean about the vote. Adam tries to convince James he’s not the third vote, but he doesn’t help his case any.

James tells Chelsia he’s going to use the power of veto to put Adam up.

Before making a decision, he wants to talk to Sharon first. On her way up to his room, she demonstrates her terrible acting skills. When she arrives up there, she tells him Matt was the third vote “for a fact.” His new plan is to take Sheila off the block and put up Matt.

As planned, James removes Sheila and places Matt on the block in her place. James, who claims to be the only honest person in the house and who says he’s punishing people for being liars, has gone back on his word to keep Matt safe. Apparently, lying is only okay if you’re lying to someone who lied to you. I’m good with the lying in this game. I’m just not thrilled with hypocrites who pretend to take the high road and then do the same thing they whine about others doing. As far as I’m concerned, if you’re going to be a liar, be an honest liar.

Programming note: Due to college basketball on Thursday, Big Brother 9 Episode 17 will air at a special time tomorrow at 9/8c, following Survivor: Micronesia at 8/7c.

Big Brother 9 Spoilers

Big Brother 9 Episode 15

After voting out James 5-1, the house decided to let him come back in the house in Big Brother 9 Episode 14. They’re either really stupid, or, well, yeah, that about sums it up. Oops. Sorry America for wasting your time with the last pointless week and also for pretending you had a vote. We left off in the middle of an endurance HOH competition.

James wants to win HOH because his dignity is on the line. Apparently being voted out of the Big Brother house means being stripped of your dignity.

Natalie explains her vote to bring James back. She stabbed her alliance in the back, but she would be redeeming herself and giving her word back to James. I still don’t get it.

Adam’s the first one out of the HOH competition at 15 minutes. Joshuah is next out. Matt’s out at 40 minutes. Sheila admits that she was one of the people who voted for the mystery guest, saying that Alex didn’t get a chance the first time. She falls at an hour.

At 2 hours 31 minutes, Sharon’s the next person to fall. Matt and Ryan are getting concerned that Adam will be turning on them if they’re no longer in power. Matt promises to give Natalie her massage if she wins. James warns that since he was backdoored (because he played a dumb game), he’s going to backdoor someone else. Chelsia is the next one to fall at 3 hours 19 minutes. James offers a deal. Ryan must go on the block no matter what, and if Natalie agrees, James will drop. Ryan doesn’t want her to take the deal. 7 minutes later, Natalie comes up with a counteroffer, asking for safety for herself and Matt. James agrees, and Natalie drops. If she hadn’t voted him back in the house, she would have won HOH. Since she didn’t, James has. James lets everybody know he sticks to his word unlike everybody else in the house. I’ll believe it when I see it.

Natalie finally figures out how to get a massage from Matt. She has to hang on a disco ball for hours. There’s some chat about how they’re still partners. Matt refuses to admit that it wasn’t him who voted for the mystery box. Josh brings this up to Adam because he wants to know who the third vote is (he also doesn’t want James to turn on him just yet).

James has his targets already in mind as to who’s the biggest threat to him, but at the end of the day, he doesn’t trust anybody in the house since they all voted against him. Back in week three, he was the person saying “It’s just a game.” Now he’s pissed off at everybody for playing that game.

James gives a speech at the nomination ceremony about how he doesn’t like that he was lied to, and that all people have in the house is their word.

Sheila and Ryan have been nominated for eviction. In the diary room, he says they’re all stupid. I’ll have to agree with him on that point.

Big Brother 9 Spoilers

Big Brother 9 Episode 14

Last night on Big Brother 9 Episode 13, after James brilliantly got his ex-partner Chelsia nominated, she won the veto, which pleased him because he thought his plan worked out perfectly. Until Ryan decided to target the Sharon/Josh/Chelsia/James alliance and nominated James in Chelsia’s place.

In addition to the live eviction, tonight we will see one previously evicted person return to the game. This isn’t the first time we’ve seen this particular twist. In season 3, Amy returned to the game at a critical point, shaking up the power structure in the house. Then in Big Brother 6, Kaysar made his way back to the house, essentially wasting a week. As I said last week, none of the evicted people are particularly likeable, with the exception of Alex, who may perhaps be neither here nor there but at least isn’t hated.

Chelsia goes upstairs to yell at Ryan, pretending she has some power in the house or something.

Sharon tells Sheila the story about how Matt kissed her, giving Sheila the impression Sharon will do just about anything to win the game. Neither Natalie nor Sheila are happy with this information. They gave James their word he’s staying.

Natalie wants Matt to tell her who’s going to the end with him. Then they get into yet another argument about how they don’t get along any more.

Jacob, Jen & Parker, Alex & Amanda, and Allison are in their own individual sequester houses, waiting for the opportunity to be voted back into the house. Parker & Jen seem to be getting along, but Alex & Amanda still hate each other. Alex hopes to go back because he blames Amanda for their eviction. Allison wants to get revenge.

Julie reveals that America has chosen Alex to return to the house as expected. He will get in a box. The house will need to vote whether to keep the person who’s evicted this week or the person in the mystery box. This is certainly a much more interesting scenario than previous votes back into the house.

By a vote of 5-1, James has been evicted from the Big Brother house. However, like last week’s evictees, he’s being given a possible second chance. I don’t think he should get one myself. He overplayed and got caught. While he’s leaving, nobody gets up other than Chelsia, at his own request. He didn’t have any interest in saying goodbye to anybody else.

In the house, the houseguests hear the siren sound and are told what’s going to happen.

Ryan-Mystery
Chelsia-James
Matt-Mystery
Sheila-Mystery
Joshuah-James
Natalie-James
Adam-James
Sharon-James

By a vote of 5-3, James will be returning to the house. Dumb move by Natalie. While it doesn’t put her in any immediate danger, it puts a huge target on her alliance, notably her on again off again buddy Matty. The side that dominated last week better pray they win HOH this week.

By the setup out in the backyard, it’s obvious it’s an endurance competition. Houseguests will remain standing upright while holding chains in Big Brother Disco. They lift up the machine and start slowly spinning it. The last one remaining will be the new Head of Household. If you want to find out who wins HOH before Sunday’s show, check out the Big Brother 9 spoilers page, where the winner has been posted.

James tells Julie that he feels great being back around all the people who voted him out, a sure sign that it was stupid of them to vote him back in. Regardless of how the house may have been divided, though, James has learned that the only person he can trust is Chelsia. Julie tells him that three people voted against him coming back.

Big Brother 9 Episode 13

Ryan’s HOH win led to the guys to form an all male alliance in Big Brother 9 Episode 12. At James’ suggestion, his former partner Chelsia was nominated, alongside the group’s main target, Sharon.

Josh doesn’t care that Sharon has been nominated, since it at least means he’s safe. James is happy with his decision but doesn’t want to see his partner go.

Sharon realizes the obvious: it’s guys vs. girls.

Joshuah wants to carry through on his deal with Ryan, but the problem is he wants to get rid of Matt first.

James assures Chelsia she’s safe. It’d be easier to guarantee if he didn’t personally set her up to get nominated.

Natalie continues to get more sick of Matt, who tells her first thing she needs to worry about is not getting evicted next week. James and Josh sees an opportunity to approach Ryan and promise him safety to take Matt out of the game. Matt eventually apologizes to her, telling her they’re still partners. If he’s smart, he’ll make sure to keep her close because she will do whatever he wants. After he apologizes, she spills the plan and tells them James and Josh were involved. He tells Ryan. There goes the male alliance. Even though I knew this was doomed from the beginning, this is shorter lived than I would have anticipated.

As planned, Josh suggests to Ryan that Matt get nominated, in exchange for two weeks of immunity. Instead of just playing dumb, Ryan tells Josh that Matt knows about the plan thanks to Natalie. Of course, Josh runs back to the others and tells them that Natalie told. If he turns on Matt, this all doesn’t matter, but if he doesn’t turn, getting the house to hate Natalie doesn’t help him out much.

Ryan chooses Adam to play in the veto competition as houseguest’s choice, thereby making sure Matt doesn’t get picked.
Chelsia randomly chooses Sheila.
Sharon randomly chooses Joshuah.

The girls, James, and Josh have a meeting to agree to give Ryan two weeks of safety if he gets rid of Matt. This plan will give him two weeks of security. After which time he’d be all alone.

Chelsia knows better than to trust any of these people. She’s still fighting for herself, as opposed to this plan.

The veto challenge is a billiards game on a modified pool table. The furthest from the veto hole loses each round. Sheila is eliminated in the first round but still gets a prize, the power of veto. Too bad she knows the people after her will be able to take it. Sharon is next eliminated. She also gets a prize, a brand new motorcycle (if nothing else, it’s worth selling after the show). She trades it for the power of veto. Stupid because then someone else will just steal the veto from her. Josh is out in the next round. He gets a letter from home and keeps it. Adam is eliminated next and gets $10,000. He trades it for the motorcycle. Sheila’s happy with this decision and feels less venemously toward Adam now. Chelsia is eliminated next but wins the slop pass, which she trades for the power of veto. Ryan is the last person standing, and he gets a unitard as his prize, which he can wear for one full week. He opts to trade this for Sheila’s $10,000, rather than the veto. Good news for Chelsia. Bad news for Sheila. Some definite potential repercussions for Ryan, as he’s running a risk this will leave a bad taste in people’s mouths.

Sheila’s pissed off that Ryan took the money, and she’s not one to let it go unknown. Chelsia warns that the single mom card will be taken badly by others. So Sheila gets pissed off at her, too. With that in mind, she wants to solidify a group to target Josh/James/Chelsia/Sharon. She tells Ryan she’s not mad at him. She’s got new targets in mind.

Chelsia removes herself from the block. Ryan needs to find a replacement nominee. His choice: James, who just simply overplayed. This turns out to be a shock to the house, but Matt’s thrilled and tells them it’s on. Ryan wants them to know he’s nobody’s bitch. Josh still thinks of himself as a genius.

Big Brother 9 Spoilers

Big Brother 9 Episode 12

The houseguests were split up in Big Brother 9 Episode 11, and for some reason they actually seemed surprised by the twist, despite the fact that Jen and Ryan’s original challenge was to get to the end together. Thanks to the twist, only Allison went home, thus saving Ryan, who went on to win HOH.

Adam & Sheila are both happy to get rid of their partners. Matt’s happy to get rid of his clingy partner as well, which he doesn’t attempt to hide from Natalie. She’s not taking the hint that he doesn’t want her in his bed any more. The creepy stalker music is a nice touch.

Joshuah & Sharon, who went on a power trip last week like most of the HOH’s have, couldn’t be more unhappy to see Ryan win HOH.

James is worried that Chelsia will change now that they’re no longer partners.

Joshuah apologizes to God for being an asshat to people and asks for help winning the game and dieting.

Ryan really does miss Jen (since he hasn’t seen the footage of the show yet), so he’s happy to see the picture of her in his HOH room.

Sheila, who for no apparent reason decided she hated Allison, now is crying that she’s gone.

James still wants to cuddle with Chelsia at night, but says she doesn’t think it’s a smart idea. They still have a plan to stick together as a duo, though, unlike half the teams.

Matt and Ryan want to get an all male alliance going. They take Adam onboard, but they don’t completely include James, who doesn’t trust them either anyway. Josh’s name isn’t even brought up, though. Regardless of who the plan does or does not include, an all male alliance has never worked. Ever. It’s just a question of how long it takes to implode and who the first casualty is.

Natalie learns that there are only 26 letters in the alphabet because the and in “Y and Z” doesn’t count.

The teams must choose blue and red bandanas for the competition. Knowing that Matt’s favorite color is blue, Natalie makes sure she grabs blue, so she’s the only girl on his otherwise all male team. It’s James, Matt, Adam, and Natalie against Sheila, Sharon, Josh, and Chelsia. Teams will swim through chocolate pools to grab letters and spell words (Natalie’s team is worried). The winning team will get whatever food they spell correctly. Sheila, who blamed Adam for their constant failures, continues her losing streak without him, allowing the other team to get a huge lead. When the other team loses the chalk, though, that big lead is almost erased. The red team gets 11 food items. The blue team wins with 12 correctly spelled words, obtaining a diet of 12 food items, but at least it beats slop (let’s hope nobody passes out).

Josh, who put Ryan on the block last week, promises to not put him on the block (again) if he wins HOH. He’s completely fine with Sharon going on the block, which may not be the wisest move, but better her than him.

The boys came up with the plan to put up Sharon and Sheila. Rather than simply agreeing with this plan, James of all people talks them out of it, suggesting Chelsia instead of Sheila. He’s trying to prove he’s willing to do anything, but this is a hell of a risk to take.

Big Brother 9 Spoilers

Big Brother 9 Episode 11

Following their nomination, Matt & Natalie managed to take themselves off the block with the power of veto in Big Brother 9 Episode 10. That leaves Ryan & Allison and Adam & Sheila on the block for tonight’s vote. There’s a catch that has the whole house worried, though. When a siren sounds in the house, there will be a twist.

Allison’s looking forward to Sheila getting lost.

Matt thinks he’s playing both sides, and for now, it seems to be working. Problem is someone here’s going to end up on the jury (or at least that’s a theory… who knows how long they’ll actually make this season last). James realizes that Matt is playing both sides, another potential problem for him. In the season of bringing up everything in front of the entire house, James of course brings this up in a group, telling the rest of the house Matt is just playing them.

Natalie’s friends at the Bikini Coffee Shop tell us she let her past boyfriends walk all over her and that she comes on too strong (we’ve noticed). Matt’s friends know he doesn’t want to do his job for much longer and is focused on getting to the end and winning the money.

Julie tells us that once the evicted couple tries to leave, they’ll find out the door is locked, and the houseguests will be split up into individual players.

By a vote of 2-0, Allison & Ryan have been evicted from the Big Brother house. Just kidding. As they try to leave, the door’s locked, and the siren sounds. They return to the living room and are told they’re no longer couples. It’s still time to vote. The house must vote to evict either Allison or Ryan. Pointless. We all know Allison’s the target here. As afraid as they were about this siren, the house got exactly what it wanted. Allison couldn’t have asked for a worse twist.

Votes
Adam-Allison
Chelsia-Allison
Matt-Allison
Sheila-Allison
Natalie-Allison
James-Allison

By a unanimous vote, Allison is evicted from the Big Brother house. She quickly runs out the door, not interested in saying anything to anybody but her partner. Joshuah’s goodbye message is one last shot at Allison, but Sheila’s smart enough to say she’ll miss her.

The HOH competition is a true/false session based on the order in which things happened in the house. Everybody gets the first question right. James and Natalie are eliminated on the second question. Sheila, Matt, and Chelsia are eliminated. It’s between Ryan and Adam. Both get the next question wrong. Both get the next question right. Adam finally gets it wrong, and Ryan is the new HOH. Typical Big Brother. In the doghouse one week, in charge the next.

Before we leave, Julie tells us about one last twist. One of the evicted people will return to the house in an America’s Choice vote. Great, a popularity contest. There’s a reason they took the public vote away after season 1. It leaves me to thinking, though: does anybody actually like any of the evicted houseguests? The only choice I see here is Alex.

Big Brother 9 Spoilers

Big Brother 9 Episode 10

Like all the other prior HOH couples, the power went to Joshuah’s head in Big Brother 9 Episode 9, flipping out on Allison because she changed her vote at the last minute (and oh, yeah, he pretended it had something to do with her pretending to be a lesbian). Ryan & Allison were the obvious nomination, with Matt & Natalie being nominated as the pawn.

Even though everybody hates Allison, Chelsia really wants Matt & Natalie out of the house because they’re too much of a threat. It’s really simple. If you actually want someone to go, don’t put them up against someone who’s a better target.

Joshuah’s concerned that people are believing he’s hot headed and a ticking time bomb.

Natalie continues to chase Matt around. He’s playing impossible to get, but she doesn’t care.

Allison is trying to work on Natalie, having saved her last week. They want to flip the house upside down by forcing Joshuah & Sharon to nominate someone they don’t want to, and then working together to get that couple out instead.

Sheila & Adam are selected at random to participate in the veto competition along with the HOH couple and the two nominated teams. As host, James dresses up in a toga. Apparently he’s supposed to be Cupid. The men will grab puzzle pieces and hoist their partners up in the air via attached pulleys to solve the puzzle. Matt has a clear physical edge over everybody else. Neither Adam nor Joshuah are able to get very far with it. Allison and Natalie, however, are still in this thing. By one puzzle piece, Matt & Natalie win veto. Chelsia’s pissed and doesn’t hide it very well. Sheila knows she’s going up on the block with Adam.

Matt tries different things to appeal to different people. With Josh, he appeals to his gay side. He considers Ryan a friend and just tries to keep it that way. He agrees to be Allison’s shoulder to cry on, and he tells her to go ahead and stir up some trouble. He tries to charm Sharon and make her think he cares about her, though he doesn’t. He tells her he’s not at all attracted to Natalie and kisses Sharon, who knows he’s just playing the game, but she’s perfectly happy to play along with him.

Sheila & Adam continue their arguing. Granted, she argues with everybody, so he’s used to this. James finds this amusing and knows she takes a target off him.

Natalie’s now at the point of getting tired of being treated like dirt by Matt. He doesn’t deny being mean but eventually acknowledges that he should be treating her like a friend. He hopes this will get her to stop thinking they’re soulmates, but no such luck.

Allison asks Josh why he hates her. He doesn’t understand why she wants to know and doesn’t give an actual non-vague answer. The best she gets out of him is that she’s too manipulative, which she doesn’t understand since she considers that part of the game.

Big Brother gives them a message that they’ll hear a siren at some random point in the future and that they’ll need to gather in the living room when they hear it.

Everybody panics about the impending siren, except Ryan & Allison, who are hoping for a twist… of any kind.

Matt & Natalie remove themselves from the block. The replacement nominees are Adam & Sheila.
