MSNBC Hates Paris Hilton

Posted by soultrance on Wednesday, June 27, 2007 at 11:23 pm

Thanks to my friend Andrew over at the digital photography blog GoldenGod.net for the heads up on this story.

Alright, I know what you’re all thinking, “Christ, not another friggin’ Paris Hilton story, who cares anymore?!” Well, I have to say, I can’t agree with you more.

Paris earned her celebrity by being a celebrity (don’t ask me how that works), and then she got nailed with a DUI, then she was in jail, and out of jail and back in again and now, finally, she is free, for the time being at least. No matter what this woman does, or even doesn’t do, she manages to find her way into the pages of nearly every magazine and newspaper, but no more.

Today was a fantastic day in the world of celebrity gossip and Paris Hilton news. The journalists have had enough and are finally fighting back!
It all started with US Weekly refusing to give Paris Hilton the cover story of their next issue; for that matter they refused to even include mention of her in the next issue, period. Now, it is quite obvious that was a PR stunt to try and garner even more attention for the magazine, which definitely worked, but hey, an issue of US Weekly without Paris Hilton, stunt or otherwise, is a miracle among celebrity gossip miracles.

Later in the day, and even better than the US Weekly news, was an event that happened lived on MSNBC that will not soon be forgotten. News Anchor Mika Brzezinski was told to lead into the news hour with a story about Paris Hilton’s interview on Larry King Live, and she refused. Live, on air, for all the world to see, she flat out refused to talk about the interview or anything to do with Paris Hilton. Not only did she refused to read the story, she tried to burn it! She did fail to burn it; however, after stealing it back from a fellow anchor that snatched it from her hands, she tore it into shreds! Better still, her producer slipped her another copy of the story and her reaction was to stand up, march over to the paper shredder and let her rip. All of this was live, on air, on MSNBC’s morning show, Morning Joe. Now if that’s not a powerful statement, I don’t know what is.

Celebrity Gossip Review

Posted by soultrance on Sunday, June 24, 2007 at 5:24 pm

It has been a long time since I’ve talked about anything celebrity related on dingoRUE, and I think even longer since I’ve had a sponsored review request from Review Me, and wouldn’t you know it, I get to kill two birds with one stone today.

I received a review request from CelebrityGossip.com the other day and, though I was hesitant to actually accept the offer, I checked out the site and decided it would be worth a review. So let’s get down to business.

Though I don’t like to admit it, I’m some what of a celebrity news addict (I blame my work 100%), so I spend a lot of time cruising the celebrity news sites, blogs, etc. Things like PerezHilton, E! Online and the likes, so getting a review request from a new celebrity gossip site actually peaked my interest a bit.

At First Glance

CelebrityGossip.com comes across as another in a long line of Digg clones and, upon further investigation, that is exactly what it is. Although that’s not necessarily a bad thing.

Digg is a great resource for technology news and the likes, but when it comes to television news and celebrity gossip, Digg is sorely lacking. In fact, the entertainment pages of Digg see next to no traffic or interest compared to the tech and computer related pages. This is where the Celebrity Gossip site has the opportunity to shine.

Being a Digg style site 100% focused on celebrities and celebrity related news, Celebrity Gossip will most certainly fill an as yet untapped niche. Given, the site is in its infancy and doesn’t appear to have a great deal of traffic, it does however have promise.

The Look

The overall look of the site is simple and clean, which keeps it easy to navigate and makes the purpose of the site clear the moment you look at it. Like many celebrity gossip sites, pink is the color of choice and as much as I hate the color, it befitting of the sites content.

My one initial complaint about the look of the site is how massive the header image and top ad are. You actually have to scroll down to view the entire first article, which is a big issue in my eyes. Standard web design and general usability practices say your first article or piece of interest should always be above the fold (halfway mark) of the page, and Celebrity Gossip has failed to do that. I think with a little reworking and resizing of the header image, tabs, ad, etc. it could end up with a much tighter look and feel.

Overall

I like the idea behind the site, though the amount of Digg copy sites out there now-a-days makes it hard to really pay a lot of attention to any new ones. The content on the site is good and, with more traffic, should only get better. Overall I think the site has a lot of promise and I’ll certainly be keeping an eye on how things progress.

Check it out for yourself at CelebrityGossip.com.

Reality TV Blogs Worth Reading

Posted by soultrance on Friday, April 13, 2007 at 6:00 am

As much as some people might not believe me, blogging really isn’t as easy as it looks. In the old days of news sites, newspapers and magazines, time wasn’t nearly as much a factor as it is in today’s world of blogging. Timing, quickness and content are all king in the world of blogging and it’s not easy to keep on top of everything. The blogs that are able to stay on top of their topics and cover them in a timely manner generally do very well.

Blogging on any topic can easily become a full time endeavour and as much as a lot of bloggers, myself included, would love to dedicate all their time to blogging, it’s just not financially feasible. So like any other blogger would, I do the best I can to stay on top of things and offer up witty, original content on a regular basis - which is sometimes easier said than done.

Running a blog takes a lot of motivation and dedication and I have nothing but respect for the bloggers of the world. For this very reason, I have decided to share the love with some of my favorite reality TV blogs. So get out there, check out these sites and show your support for the reality TV boggers out there.

Reality TV Blogs that Rock:

  • TVGasm - Even though TVGasm isn’t updated as much as it used to be, it’s still a great source for original and entertaining TV related content. The writers at TVGasm clearly love what they do and have fun doing it, which is easily seen in every post on the site.
  • Reality TV Magazine - With the amount of content that runs through this site you’d never guess that it’s run by only two TV addicts. The articles on Reality TV Magazine are generally short, to the point and informative, which no doubt makes it easier to push so many updates out the door everyday. Reality TV Magazine is without a doubt one of my favorite reality TV blogs.
  • BuddyTV - Alright, I’m usually more a fan of the average Joe running a blog than the blogs owned by big companies, but BuddyTV is the exception to the rule. They have a ton of writers, a fantastic amount of original content and they are always able to score the best interviews in the TV world. BuddyTV is a must read for any true TV addict.
  • Rickey - As much as I try to avoid American Idol now-a-days, I can’t help but read Rickey’s site. He is, without a doubt, the most dedicated American Idol fan I have ever come across and he manages to dig up every little bit of information circling the show and it’s past contestants. If you’re an American Idol fan, Rickey is definitely the site for you.

Well, there you have it, some of the best reality TV blogs online. Check them out, show your support for us poor, humble (ha!) bloggers and don’t hesitate to leave a comment. Any true blogger loves hearing what their readers have to say.

Breaking: Anna Nicole Smith Is Dead!

Posted by soultrance on Thursday, February 8, 2007 at 2:55 pm

Wow… All I can say about this is… wow. As much as I hated Anna Nicole Smith, my heart has to go out to what is left of her family. Things have been incredibly rough for her entire family in recent years and this is only going to make things worse. She apparently collapsed in a hotel in Florida and was rushed to a hospital where doctors were unable to revive her. Wow…

From CNN:

“Reality TV star and former Playboy playmate Anna Nicole Smith was pronounced dead Thursday after being found unconscious in her Florida hotel room, a law enforcement source told CNN. Five months ago, Smith’s son, Daniel Wayne Smith, died just days after the birth of her infant daughter.”

Thanks to my wife, who’s watching the press conference right now, I can tell you that: Anna Nicole Smith was in her hotel room at 1:45 with her nurse when she collapsed. Her bodyguard began to give her CPR and sent her to the hospital at 2:20. Doctors tried to resuscitate her, but were unsuccessful and she was officially pronounced dead at 2:49. Her husband, Howard K. Stern was with her but her daughter was not. The police are now investigating the crime scene to gather further evidence.

Tom Cruise Dances With Katie Holmes… Well, Kinda.

Posted by soultrance on Tuesday, February 6, 2007 at 12:39 pm

Katie Holmes and Tom Cruise Dance (Image Source: ImNotObsessed.com)

Like the saying goes “White man can’t dance” and, even though that’s not always true, there could be no more accurate a saying to describe Tom Cruise’s efforts to scale Katie Holmes like a spider monkey. Not only was it a disturbing and plain weird thing to watch, it also further cements the fact that Tom’s reputation and career are going down faster than a white house intern.

The good people over at TMZ.com have released a nice little video of Tom Cruise attempting to dance with Katie Holmes on the side of a stage, while Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony sing. It really is a sad and pathetic thing to watch, and for the first time ever, I actually feel confident in my dancing skills, and that’s really saying something.

From the looks of the video, Tom can’t even sway back and forth in rhythm, and the way he wraps his arms around Katie is just plain weird. Sort of like a midget trying to ride a giraffr.

Watch Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes dance!

Perez Hilton Is My Heroes… er, Hero!

NBC heroes milo ventimiglia
Perez Hilton & Milo Ventimiglia (Image Source: PerezHilton.com)

What can I say, I’m one of the people out there that actually likes Perez Hilton and will gladly admit to the fact. The guy gets hated on more than any other blogger I know of, but I guess that’s the price you pay for becoming one of, if not the single most successful bloggers in North America.

Perez Hilton (real name: Mario Lavandeira) has been elevated to near celebrity status through his blog and gets to meet people I could only dream of meeting. He gets invited to all the best parties, gets mass amounts of swag, makes a 6-figure income and, best of all, gets to meet some of my absolutely favorite celebrities. Just recently Perez had the distinct honor of meeting NBC Heroes star Milo Ventimiglia at one such party. Milo was hanging out, having a good time with some of his friends and agents from CAA, and apparently even Milo is a fan of Perez Hilton and a regular reader.

In case you can’t tell, this is me, being jealous.

Kevin “K-Fed” Federline’s Nationwide Super Bowl Commercial

Posted by soultrance on Tuesday, January 30, 2007 at 11:52 am

Well, it’s official, if Britney Spears baby daddy Kevin “K-Fed” Federline had any credibility left, what-so-ever, he has officially flushed it down the toilet now.

It’s been known for a few weeks now that Kevin Federline has been working on a primetime Super Bowl commerical for Nationwide, and the illusive commercial has finally been leaked online!

I have to admit, as much as I hate K-Fed, the Nationwide Super Bowl commercial is by far the best thing he has ever done - maybe he’ll realize that and stick to making an ass of himself in commercials - at least one can dream.

Watch Kevin Federline’s Nationwide Commercial after the jump!

Britney Spears is the new Dayna Carvey?

Posted by soultrance on Sunday, January 21, 2007 at 5:52 pm

britney spears bad hair day

I’m a few days behind on this one, to say the least, but I still had to post about it anyways ’cause I get such a kick out of the comparison.

On January 17th, the folks over at the US Weekly blog threw this picture up, no text, no nothing, just the picture and a title: “Hollywood Look-Alike: Britney Spears and Garth From Wayne’s World

Britney Spears has certainly been looking pretty rough lately, and when she does make an attempt at looking good, it’s so blazingly obvious that she had to put far to much effort into it. Sure, she’s a good ‘ole southern girl, or so she says, but she could at least put a little effort into looking decent. Britney used to look fantastic, but things have sure changed, and at the worse time possible. With a custody battle between her and 2nd former husband Kevin “K-FED” Federline looming, she’s going to have to make some big changes to convince any judge that she deserves custody.

Lindsay Lohan Brand Vodka, Mmmmm

Posted by soultrance on Tuesday, January 9, 2007 at 1:19 pm

People say a picture is worth a thousand words, and they couldn’t be more right.

This little gem comes compliments of the gossip gangsta himself, Perez Hilton.

Rehydrate. Rehabilitate. Intoxicate. Introducing Adequite, the world’s first single-grain triple-distilled luxury vodka available in a discreet plastic container that resembles an innocent - yet stylish - water bottle. Stupid Celebrity News of the Day!

Posted by soultrance on Monday, December 11, 2006 at 8:20 pm

  • What idiot thought it would be a good idea to have Prince as the Super Bowl Halftime Show act? For some reason the sexually ambiguous “rock star” Prince doesn’t strike me as the kind of entertainment millions of middle-aged men lounging in their recliner’s drinking Bud Light and eating Nachos will be looking for. Way to TOTALLY miss your target audience guys, nicely done.
  • Apparently Bette Midler is as much a fan of Britney Spears‘ Beaver as I am. In fact, she’s even trying to make up for Britney’s shortcomings, but maybe she’s overdoing just a little? ‘I’m wearing underwear, in fact a lot of underwear.’ she said. ‘In fact I’m wearing all the underwear that those girls are not wearing - at least two bras and several pairs of panties.’
  • Mel Gibson’s newest venture into the film directing business, entitle “Apocalypto”, gets some much needed translating. Best. Translation. Ever!
  • The Simple Life star and disgustingly skinny Paris Hilton sidekick, Nichole Richie was nailed with DUI at 4:50am this morning. Stupid isn’t the only thing Paris and Nichole have in common anymore. The worst part of this entire thing is Nichole’s weight on the rap sheet. My cat’s had turd’s that weigh more than her. Come on, 85lbs is NOT a healthy weight for a kid, let alone a fully “matured” (and I use the term very loosely), woman. Oh, and yes, that pun was very much intended. Zing!
