The Apprentice UK Series 4 Episode 8

In addition to being a horrible project manager on a previous episode, Jenny lied and cheated (doing neither very well) and was fired in The Apprentice UK Series 4 Episode 7. That wasn’t enough for Sir Alan, though, as he also targeted the project manager for the losing team, Jennifer, firing her for being a snake as well.

Helene is pissed off that she a) has to associate with these people and b) can’t fire them (all of them apparently). Get rid of this crazy chick already.

The subject of the task this week is weddings. They have two stands at the National Wedding Show where they will represent suppliers of wedding items.

The teams are reorganized. For the 18th time. Claire moves over to Alpha. Helene and Sara move to Renaissance.

Claire dreams of marriage and wedding dresses and so forth. Raef is anti-marriage.

Helene steps forward as project manager for Renaissance because she used to model in bridal shows (she did?) and has had a lot of friends get married.

Lucinda will again be the project manager for Alpha.

Michael and Sara first stop to see bridal designer Ian Stuart, whose dresses sell for up to £2,500. Michael couldn’t care less but pretends to be interested. Helene and Alex visit a shop that specializes in colored dresses.

Over on Alpha, Claire and Raef will be visiting wedding dress businesses, while the rest of the team focuses on other items. They also visit Ian first, and unlike the other two, who didn’t care for him, Claire loved it. Their next stop is to check out some plus size dresses.

Lucinda and Lee are going to check out other products, and they start off with cakes, though they are unclear on whether they’re expensive or not.

Michael and Sara also make a stop at a cake store. Sara believes this is critical. Alex and Helene are checking out wedding lingerie and honeymoon beachwear. Helene is gushing and wants this the most. Unsurprisingly, she shoots down the cakes. Michael says that an intelligent person would have sent two people to look at wedding dresses and two people to look at the other stuff (like the other team did at Claire’s suggestion).

Lucinda also likes the underpants, and she and Lee agree they want that over the cakes.

Claire and Raef next stop at a Big High Street retailer. Claire likes this cheaper store the most, though Raef likes Ian the most. They agree to go for Ian Stuart first and BHS second due to Ian’s brand name.

Michael pushes for Ian, but Helene again wants to go with the cheaper option and the one she saw, the colored dresses.

Both teams have chosen different dresses, but they must now convince the lingerie shop owner to choose them over the other team since they both want that. Based on the dress selection being complementary to their product line, the shop goes with team Alpha and Ian. Helene’s team opts for cake instead.

Sara and Michael are concerned about the tacky dresses Helene has chosen.

Lucinda’s team quickly has a queue waiting to try on dresses, though they’re not moving. Nick doesn’t believe this strategy will pay off because this is a mass market place. Lee is finding it easy to sell the low cost lingerie and beach items as expected, but he knows they need wedding dress sales to make it worthwhile.

Alex tries a conversational approach to selling dresses and doesn’t believe in a hard sell, particularly when it comes to wedding dresses. Unlike Alex, Michael is an aggressive seller, which looks like a turn off. Likewise, Sara also comes off as pushy.

Around 4:00, Raef is questioning the wisdom in his decision to pursue the high end dress market. Lucinda decides to let Lee have a go. And Raef gets into a bear uniform, the lingerie company’s promotional outfit.

Michael’s still not selling any cakes. He opts for trying to make a potential customer feel bad, and he believes the people he’s dealing with are dumb.

As the show is wrapping up, with still no wedding dress sales, some of the people from earlier in the day are returning to Alpha’s stand to check out Ian Stuart’s dresses again. They finally get a sale. Then another. Claire realizes something Sara and Michael failed to realize: these people are there for an all day thing and don’t want to make snap decisions.

Lucinda’s team really likes her.

Michael is quick to point out that it was an error to not have each team dedicated to one line of products.

Alpha returns with £5,752.99, £647.24 for the accessories and the rest from three dresses. Renaissance sold 5 dresses but no cakes, for total sales of £1,925.00. Sir Alan congratules Alpha on their gamble paying off, and Nick is really impressed by Claire’s selling and believes she was well led by Lucinda.

This is a tough choice. Aside from Alex, I’m not seeing much of anything from Renaissance.

Michael blames the lack of a gamble for the loss. Sara believes that Helene contributed the least to the task.

Sir Alan got the impression that Michael was already covering his tracks for the loss even before it was announced what the results were.

Helene pretends she would have gone with another route if somebody had defended their stance more passionately.

Sir Alan wants to know why Alex, who was the only one who got anything done for this team on this task, is always on the losing side. Alex wants the person who sold the least on the day to be fired, which would be Sara.

Michael and Sara acknowledge that cakes were a bad decision. Margaret brings up that both of them were pushy anyway.

Alex is safe, and Helene will be bringing Sara and Michael back with her.

Much more of the same follows in the remaining portion of the boardroom.

Helene wants Sara gone because she doesn’t like how she treats people. Both Sara and Michael want Helene gone.

Sara has been fired because she doesn’t do anything, is confusing, and has alienated customers. Sir Alan is getting more and more fed up with Michael, who remains on borrowed time but gets another shot.

On the way home, Sara basically tells us that she can’t work with other people.

The Bachelor on VH1

VH1 is acquiring the full library of The Bachelor in a licensing agreement with Warner Bros. Domestic Television Distribution. The agreement includes 12 cycles of “The Bachelor” and “The Bachelorette” franchises as well all cycles through at least 2008.

VH1 will air the first seven seasons during the first week of June. Airing one season per day in a marathon format, VH1 will premiere the first edition of “The Bachelor” on Sunday, June 1 and conclude the week-long programming event with the seventh on Saturday, June 7.

“‘The Bachelor’ is the granddaddy of the dating reality format. It’s been a water cooler staple from the moment it premiered in 2002, and it’s still on top of its game”, said Ben Zurier, Executive Vice President, Programming Strategy, VH1, VH1 Classic, and MHD. “As we’ve seen with our own record-breaking ‘Rock of Love with Bret Michaels’ and ‘Flavor of Love’ series, dating reality has become the drama for the current generation of young adults, with an engaging mix of intrigue, romance, and surprises. ‘The Bachelor’ and VH1 certainly feels like a good match.”

Microsoft finally managed to edge out Sony, but both of them got easily beat by Nintendo. Two key product launches managed to crush everything else. GTA 4 took home 2.85 million units of sales in 5 days, with a split of nearly 2:1 for the Xbox 360 version. On the Nintendo front, Mario Kart Wii was the big new game. Wii Play continues its standard performance, and Brawl remains in the top 10 as well. Gran Turismo 5: Prologue does okay but underwhelming, particularly compared to the European launch. Activision is in a position they’re not used to, bringing up the rear, but both their key franchises remain in the top.

The Fox schedule begins on August 25th, which should put it a couple weeks ahead of most networks.

The network’s midseason plans include Joss Whedon’s Dollhouse, 24, The Cleveland Show, Secret Millionaire, and Sit Down Shut Up. The American Idol Results show has been reduced back to half an hour so that there are only 28 minutes of filler rather than 58.

The CW Fall Schedule

Here’s The CW 2008-2009 schedule for the two people who still care.

Reaper has received a season 2 pickup and will be returning in midseason for 13 episodes.

American Idol 7 Episode 40

Results will be posted live as they become available.

After killing an hour, the results come in at about 2 minutes before the show’s done. No big surprise there.

As has been expected for about 6 weeks now, it’s a battle of the Davids. Syesha Mercado is eliminated. The final two contestants David Archuleta and David Cook will compete for the title of American Idol 7 winner next week.

Farmer Wants a Wife Episode 3

Josie proved to be both completely useless and not at all entertaining, but this obvious producer plant only made it as far as Farm Wants a Wife Episode 2. The rest of the house has now set its sights on Brooke and Lisa, although I can’t figure out why yet.

The girls are all washing Matt’s truck. Brooke and Lisa start a water fight with each other. Yet another reason for them to be hated for no reason.

Matt’s mom stops by to tell them they’re going to a quilting shop. Yeah, that’s apparently a real place. After a few people draw some blood, Krista wants to know how much the country sucks. Then the rest of the group jumps on Brooke for suggesting she has something in common with Matt and a connection with him.

It’s tractor time. Lisa is wearing her high heels to go riding. The challenge is to load all their hay bales on a tractor. Kanisha has trouble figuring out how to even get started. Lisa says she’s learned her lesson, a lesson I’d think she would have known before she got on the tractor. At the end, Krista and Brooke are neck and neck racing for the finish line. Just as she’s crossing the finish line, though, Krista drops a bale, which allows Brooke to pass her to win the challenge.

Then it’s time for some barbeque and some arguing about why people hate Brooke. Matt says that the most important quality is attitude and that he doesn’t have a lot of duds in the pack of girls he’s been given to choose from (oh, he’s definitely been given his share).

Brooke’s told that she’s fake and putting on a front. Christa says the reason she doesn’t like Brooke is because Brooke is a smitten kitten, that only Christa is allowed to have feelings for him, and that she’s upset because Brooke ruined her date with Matt somehow. Too much whining going on here.

Everybody heads to the river, and Matt tells them to make sure they bring their bikinis. The conversation leads to more Brooke bashing: everybody is not the same person they appear to be in front of him. Krista raises additional concerns, this time about working on the farm with Matt. The more reserved girls Ashley and Amanda are growing on him. When they all jump in the water, there’s some horsing around. Matt apologizes for hitting Krista with his big piece of wood.

Matt has decided to give the safe girl a gift. He gives Brooke a belt. Krista’s immediately jealous and more bitter. Can anyone whose name ends in rista just be kicked off this show already?

The elimination will be embroidered. The first three letters are A, S, and I. Lisa, Christa, and Krista know they’re on the chopping block. An R follows this. Lisa is safe. Krista knows it’s her, and with good reason. Matt feels like he was boring her. She takes one last parting shot at Brooke.

He picks Amanda to go on the one-on-one date. They’re going to his parents’ house to have dinner. Great first date idea. She says she’d definitely consider being on the farm. She likes that Matt is… hot. She also likes the family and his personality. He feels she fit in so well with them. When they return, a spying Kanisha sees the kissing.

After everybody else goes to sleep, Brooke and Lisa sneak out. They don’t know if they’re going to be killed or not, but they go to see him at his house. The two stalkers managed to find him from magazines he left at the house. They’re hoping that the other girls won’t sway his decision and want him to know that. Once they leave, they’re not sure whether they just screwed themselves or not.
