America’s Got Talent Season 7 Episode 29

The second and final group of semifinalists performed in America’s Got Talent Season 7 Episode 28. Tonight three more will advance to the finals.

The first three acts are Shanice & Maurice Hayes, All That, and Lightwire Theater. Time to put All That out of their misery and hope they don’t come back in season 13. Lightwire Theater is the obvious group to advance from this trio.

Jacob Williams, David Giribaldi & His CMYK’s, and Sebastien “El Charro de Oro” are next. I thought Jacob had a chance, but his material let him down. David’s the clear favorite of this group.

Clint Carvalho, Olate Dogs, and All Wheel Sports are the third set of acts. Olate Dogs was perhaps the best animal act ever, and they become the third group in the top 4.

Tim Hockenberry, The Magic of Puck, and The Untouchables are the last group. This is the hardest one to call. I don’t see Puck advancing, but either of the other two could make it. Hard for Tim to beat a crying 8 year old, though, and The Untouchables advance.

Regardless of who goes to the finals, we’re guaranteed a rarity in this show. There is not a single singer in the finals. The closest thing to a singer is William Close, whose main part of the act overshadows his moderately okay singers.

The Untouchables are the first group to advance to the finals. The second spot in the finals goes to Olate Dogs. David Garibaldi & His CMYK’s and Lightwire Theater must now await the judges’ decision. Sharon votes for Lightwire Theater. Howie votes for David. Howard breaks the tie by voting for David.

Next week’s show is on Wednesday. Pick a time already.

Jillian Michaels Returning to Biggest Loser

Deja vu.

After getting kicked off Dr. Phil’s show in just a few months, Jillian Michaels has decided to return to The Biggest Loser for season 14, which begins in January. She’s been gone for two seasons, which presumably has given Dolvett enough time to cement his spot on the show, as he will be returning as well. I’m perfectly fine going back to Bob and Jillian, though.

After the first two seasons, Jillian quit the show once before as well. Kim Lyons replaced Jillian in season 3, with both trainers being featured in season 4, but she was never heard from again.

“As a former overweight teen, I know firsthand how dramatically weight issues can affect every aspect of a child’s life,” said Michaels. “Having recently become a mother of two, I am more passionate than ever about helping empower children and families with the information and resources they need to live a healthier life.”

To that end, this season’s twist will be the inclusion of teenagers on each team. The kids (ages 13-17) will have their weight count toward the team results, but they cannot be eliminated.

Big Brother 14 Episode 24

In the typical shift of power that happens every week, Ian became HOH in Big Brother 14 Episode 23 and nominated Frank and Jenn.

Ian warns Joe that if Jenn or Frank come off the block, he will be the replacement nominee. He made a deal to keep Shane and Danielle safe. Not that Shane was exactly in a position to bargain. You say no, and he falls minutes later. Because he intends to keep that deal, he simply does not have any other options than Joe. What about Dan, the guy who ratted you out last week?

Dan does not have any interest in upholding either his alliance with Frank or their final two deal. As Dan does, so does Danielle, not that she needs any encouragement to get rid of Frank.

Ian selects Dan to participate in the veto competition at random. Frank selects Danielle. Jenn selects Joe. This leaves Shane on the sidelines.

Frank seems to have reluctantly but foolishly agreed to throw the competition to Dan. Though the odds of Dan winning a competition don’t seem particularly good, consider who he’s up against.

Otev is back as an alien. They’ll have to search for corn cobs containing the answer to a riddle. This dumb luck is anybody’s game. Fumbling her way toward the mat, Danielle is eliminated first. Ian is eliminated next. Joe is the third one out. Jenn is out fourth.

During the time before the final round, Frank declines to throw the competition to Dan. It would have been smarter to just say he’s going to throw it. Perhaps then Dan would not try too hard. This is an easy one to throw, too, though winning it is not so easy because it’s just about being the first person to accidentally stumble on something. Dan doesn’t know the correct answer, so he’s just going to grab an ear of corn and hope one of his two guesses is correct. Dan narrowly outruns Frank to win the power of veto.

After the competition, Dan makes another final two deal, this time with Ian. That makes three.

Though Dan and Frank don’t want to consider pulling Frank off the block, that won’t prevent it from being raised. Ian suggests saving Frank as a possible option, but it takes about two seconds for Dan to convince him Jenn should come off the block.

At the veto ceremony, Dan pulls Jenn off the block. Ian nominates Joe as the replacement nominee. Dan says he just sealed Frank’s fate without having to get any blood on his hands. What about when you vote to evict him?

Frank’s the clear target here because nobody wants him to be against in the end, which is why they have been trying to get rid of him every single week. On the other side of the coin, Joe’s merely a vote, only useful if he’s on your side (like Shane), and he can’t win anything, including the end game.

America’s Got Talent Season 7 Episode 28

The first three acts advanced to the finals in America’s Got Talent Season 7 Episode 27, and America didn’t do too bad a job for a change.

Tonight the remaining 12 acts perform: All Wheel Sports, Shanice & Maurice, All That, Sebastien “El Charro de Oro”, The Magic of Puck, Jacob Williams, David Garibaldi & His CMYK’s, The Untouchables, Clint Carvalho, Tim Hockenberry, Olate Dogs, and Lightwire Theater.

I don’t know why All That was saved for the 12th time. Clogging with flaming shoes is a nice twist, though.

Sebastien “El Charro de Oro” forgoes the bad attempt to mix mariachi with Sinatra and instead returns to singing in Spanish. He may not have the best voice, but his stage presence is impressive for a 10 year old.

Puck makes a woman float and disappear. Better but probably not good enough.

Clint Carvalho brings his parrot back to do a bunch of different tricks. I found that a nice contrast with last time, which just annoyed me. Like me, Howard cannot stand when he says “Here, kitty, kitty, kitty” over again, but at least this time it was kept to a minimum. Howie feels like he just watched an amusement park show.

Jacob Williams is the most awkward comedian ever, but that’s part of the reason why he’s funny. Though this was funny, it wasn’t as good as we’ve seen. Howard sensed nervousness and felt the material hurt him.

Shanice & Maurice Hayes sing Anytime You Need a Friend. Nick quite likes the song choice. The judges think they missed the boat because the daughter has the better voice.

All Wheel Sports is a skating, biking, blading, dancing, jumping act. I’m still not sure where I’m supposed to be looking. Howard’s confused, and more importantly, missing an oh wow moment. The guy falling off the bike was the most exciting part.

It’s been a couple months since we last saw Tim Hockenberry, Howard’s favorite singer, who sounds like Joe Cocker. Imagine was not a song I expected him to sing, but it works, despite its subtlety. Howard gives him a standing ovation, but Howie doesn’t think it’s original enough compared to the rest of the talent.

The Untouchables hope to make it further than the Miami All Stars, who were eliminated in the semifinals. I wasn’t expecting the group quick change to go along with their tango. And little kids crying, good luck to the rest of the acts.

Olate Dogs are clearly the more talented of the pet acts, complete with backflips and a scooter. Sharon begs for people to vote. If Simon Cowell were here, they’d be the winners.

Lightwire Theater is similar to the acts that should have won last year but didn’t because they weren’t singers. I haven’t seen dinosaurs with swords before.

David Garibaldi & His CMYK’s is the final act of the night. Like All Wheel Sports, there’s a lot of noise on the stage, but the end result of the art they create is very good. Howard warns David there is a danger in keeping us waiting so long.

Big Brother 14 Episode 23

Dan’s plan successfully concluded in Big Brother 14 Episode 22 with Britney’s eviction.

We left off at the start of an endurance competition for HOH. Joe was the first one eliminated at 2 minutes during the commercial break. His punishment is 24 hours of hula hoop boot camp during which he’ll have to hula on command until the music stops. Jenn fell at the end of the live show at 5 minutes.

Ian, whose best friend was brutally stabbed in the back by Dan, still trusts him and wants to reform the Quack Pack, which unanimously voted to get rid of Britney. I guess he has no choice, though, since the other side of the house wants nothing to do with him. This puts Dan, who should be the biggest target in the house, in the position of being the safest person because he has allies in power no matter who wins. Not much need for the winner to be him, then.

Danielle drops at 34 minutes. Dan follows at 42 minutes. Bad news for Frank and Jenn. Though the two who remain are supposedly in an alliance, neither is ready to drop. A struggling Shane asks everybody else for time to talk with Ian alone. After receiving assurance he and Danielle are safe, Shane drops after 1 hour and 56 minutes. Ian wins HOH. How conveniently predictable of BB.

Having sworn on the bible, his wedding ring, and his dead grandfather’s chain that he’s going to the final two with Frank, Dan now heads back to his former team. Does anybody in reality TV actually believe it when someone swears on something? You can just about guarantee they’re going to do the opposite.

Unsurprisingly, Shane and Danielle have not kissed since the pirate ship, during which he agreed to kiss her as incentive to get her to win HOH and keep him safe.

Ian’s mind seems pretty well made up. Frank and Jenn are going to be nominated. He says he’s considering getting rid of Joe, a loose cannon who nobody really trusts, but who at the same time serves as no threat socially, strategically, or in any competition of any sort.

Tempting fate, Ian decides to open Pandora’s box. Everything under the Christmas tree is his to keep, while the rest of the house gets the punishment. Yes, Jesse is back. In addition to talking about how great he is, he takes all their sweets.

Nominations
Shane is safe.
Danielle is safe.
Joe is safe.
Dan is safe.
Frank and Jenn have been nominated for eviction.

Big Brother 14 Episode 22

Among the most compelling series of events in recent BB memory, Dan flipped the game on its head and somehow managed to save himself in Big Brother 14 Episode 21 by using one of the craziest strategies I’ve ever seen. He told the truth (aside from the part where he for seemingly no reason ripped apart his closest ally, though there was a method to that madness, however unnecessary it may have seemed). It’s moves like this that separate coaches/winners Boogie and Dan from Janelle and Britney. Dan’s cold, calculating, strategic stroke of evil genius is how the game’s supposed to be played.

Ian had been playing well and was looking like a favorite to win this whole thing, but he blew it when he revealed his secret to Boogie and then proceeded to try and fail to get rid of Frank. His carelessness has come back to bite him, and he ain’t happy. He says that he will get revenge because his allegiance to Frank is now gone. Yeah, I noticed it was gone two or three weeks ago.

Britney warns Dan that it’s important to her, as a jury member, how he treats people. She then goes to talk to Frank, sarcastically saying she was responsible for Shane’s and Ian’s nominations. She was.

Shane’s put in the middle. He has to choose between his coach and the most tepid showmance ever. Joe agrees to vote however he wants.

Of course, Dan hasn’t exactly escaped this unscathed. His target, which should have been bigger than it was, is growing. If Britney’s going down, she’ll keep swinging at him, right until the very end.

Votes
Dan: Britney
Jenn: Britney
Ian: Danielle
Shane: Britney
Joe: Britney

By a vote of 4-1, Britney has been evicted from the Big Brother house. She seemed to be in the strongest position, but it all collapsed with just one move, her control that made her such a big threat ultimately being her downfall. The other casualty is Ian, who remains to the end a lone wolf in sheep’s clothing.

America has voted, and 51% of the voters have decided to give a punishment to the first person eliminated in this endurance HOH competition, which has them holding on ropes and going in circles. As we conclude the live show, less than 5 minutes after the competition started, Joe has already fallen. Jenn falls, too. This doesn’t look like it will last very long. Want to know who wins HOH before Sunday’s show? Check out the BB14 spoilers.

America’s Got Talent Season 7 Episode 27

The first group of semifinalists performed in America’s Got Talent Season 7 Episode 26. Tonight three acts will advance to the finals.

Turf, Joe Castillo, and the Scott Brothers are up first. All three acts received the accusation from Howard that they were too similar to their previous performances. The clear winner of this lot is Joe Castillo, though, and he is the first of tonight’s top four acts.

Andrew de Leon, William Close, and Academy of Villains is the next trio. The judges may have given William the boost he needed, but Academy of Villains is the most talented dance act of the series. William Close is the next of the top four acts.

Donovan & Rebecca, Todd Oliver, and Edon are the next group. I potentially like Todd Oliver the most, but was not as impressed by him last night as the wild card act. Still, he advances to the top four. Howie’s happy that variety seems to be rising, unlike most seasons when some lame singer wins.

Eric Dittelman, Bria Kelly, and Tom Cotter are the final group. I was expecting both Dittelman and Tom to make the finals, but I suspect America connected more to Tom’s humor than the mysterious mind reading. Tom Cotter is the last of tonight’s top four acts.

William Close is the first act to advance to the finals. Tom Cotter also advances. The judges will now choose between the other two. Howard votes for Todd Oliver. Sharon votes for Joe. Howie breaks the tie by voting for Joe Castillo.

Big Brother 14 Episode 21

After power changed sides again in Big Brother 14 Episode 20 with Frank’s HOH win, he nominated Dan and Danielle.

Dan’s plan is to try to convince Ian to use his second first power of veto on himself. After speaking to Britney, his new hope becomes that Frank’s idiotic move of not nominating Ian is his saving grace because they can potentially control both vetoes and the vote.

Frank picks Shane to participate in the veto competition at random. Danielle picks Britney. Dan picks Jenn as houseguest’s choice, leaving Joe on the sidelines.

The veto competition involves DrawSomething, which apparently is something by Zynga that people pay that is not Farmville, though judging by Zynga’s stock price that resembles Facebook’s downhill slope I thought people stopped playing that, too. Both Dan and Danielle are supposed to throw this competition, but Dan says he will try for a change. Their challenge is to watch drawings as they appear on the screen and buzz in with the correct word based on the picture and available letters, then perform the punishment described. Shane says that since this is about drawning and spelling, you can count him out.

Frank spells avocado then dyes himself green to score 2 points. Dan gets the word hunger right, and Britney is not happy. He must eat two out of four gross food items for 5 points. Jenn spells clock, which gives her 90 seconds to take off some of her clothes and burn them for 4 points. Britney spells shackle and chooses to be shackled to Danielle for 24 hours to earn 6 points. Frank agrees to a chum shower every time an alarm sounds for 24 hours to earn 7 points for a total of 9. Then he agrees to wear a carrot costume for a week to earn an additional 3 points. Frank’s next punishment is to sit out of the HOH competition the next time he is elligible, which would mark two weeks in a row since he can’t compete next week as the current HOH. This brings his total to 22. Danielle is a human canvas for two minutes, finally getting on the board with 6 points. Dan agrees to take a 24 hour trip to a solitary dance party to earn 8 points for a total of 13 and even more wrath from Britney.

The final drawing is worth 11 points. Britney buzzes in. Frank tells her the answer, but because only the Big Brother producers are allowed to blatantly cheat in competitions, he is disqualified. This puts Dan in the lead and means that anyone other than Shane can still win, whereas before it was a two horse race. In the last final question, Britney buzzes in first again, but she does not know again. Jenn buzzes in next and accepts the biggest punishment of the game, to eat slop for the rest of the summer (about three weeks), which brings her score to 15 points. Jenn wins the power of veto, hoping to prove to Frank he’s not alone.

Dan has a bit of a meltdown, but there’s no time for him to play the game now because he has a day of solitary confinement ahead of him first. During that time, he plans to think of how he can get himself out of this hole he dug by playing a bad game.

Dan comes out of his 24 whole hours alone looking like somebody died. He gives a speech welcoming us to his Big Brother funeral, causing everybody to cry. After all of his glowing and positive comments to everybody else, he tells Danielle she is dead to him, turning her tears into shock and horror.

As Danielle cries to Shane, Dan goes upstairs to chat with Frank. He reveals everything that went down with the Quack Pack and their mole Ian. Better late than never I suppose. Of course, this entirely true story is all the more believeable seeing as Ian stupidly told Boogie he could not be trusted then proceeded to nominate Frank. But Britney’s more dangerous, so Dan wants her out next. It’s not like anybody else is going to nominate her seeing as they’re all just doing everything she says. Also, Dan has never done anything directly against Frank, unlike all the people who have nominated and voted against him. As much as Frank has been trying to get Dan out of the house, nobody would ever suspect them of working together. Frank suggests taking it a step further and making this a four person alliance of them plus Jenn and Danielle. Dan swears on the bible to a final two deal.

Now, having blindsided and shattered Danielle previously, Dan has to tell her it was all just an act to save both of them, which he may have just done. He wanted her to have real emotions, which is why he didn’t tell her. Hardly seems necessary seeing as she was already crying for some time before he even mentioned her name. But his hope is that her sympathy meter is too high for anybody to want to vote her out.

In order for this plan to work, Jenn must use the veto to save Dan.

Ian decides not to use his power of veto. However, Jenn uses her veto to save Dan. In his place, Britney has been nominated, and Frank states this move of nominating the person who Ian has made it clear is his closest ally is revenge for him being a traitor.

I’m not sure they have the votes with Ian and Shane in Britney’s pocket and Joe as always somewhere in the middle, but Dan may have just pulled off the biggest move of the season. In Danielle’s favor is the fact that she’s not a threat, and everybody likes her, including her showmance of sorts Shane. Regardless of the vote, pulling himself off the block when all hope seemed to be lost was a great move, right up there with the Janelle backdoor. About time, too, because this former winner, the only one to ever win by a unanimous vote, has played a very lackluster game, especially over the last couple of weeks when he was one of the puppy dogs following Britney’s instructions on what seemed to be an inevitable path toward her winning the game.

Stay tuned to dingoRUE for another live recap of Big Brother 14 Episode 22, which airs Thursday at 9/8c on CBS.
