Survivor: Heroes Vs. Villains Episode 6

Despite the fact that James was barely able to walk, the Heroes ended up voting out Tom in Survivor: Heroes Vs. Villains Episode 5 instead.

Candice voted the way the rest of the tribe voted, although she knew it wasn’t the right move.

Russell hopes to convince Rob that he’s on his side, even though he isn’t. Rob wants him to know he’s out of his league.

Treemail is a little vague. There’s a reason for that. They will be competing as individuals to win immunity for themselves. Both tribes will be going to tribal council, and both will run the challenge separately. Each person will be tethered to a rope and must maneuver through a series of obstacles. The two winners for each tribe will then compete individually to win hot dogs, fixings, and soft drinks. Coach, JT, and Tyson previously competed in this challenge. JT got beat by Tyson in the end. Heroes go first. James is trying, and somehow he’s off to the lead, although it doesn’t last. Candice is through the first section first. JT is behind her. Candice wins individual immunity. Villains are up next. Boston Rob is the first one to get through the first section with Tyson right on his heels. Russell’s behind them. Boston Rob wins immunity. Now Rob and Candice will make the run at the course for reward. This one has a third level and is three times as high. Rob’s leading right at the start and retains his lead throughout. Villains win reward.

The Villains have decided to target Parvati, but hope they can get Russell to use the idol. Russell knows they’re going to vote Parvati. He wants to give her the idol tonight.

Colby knows his neck’s on the chopping block. He realizes where the numbers are, and James with his braced up knee managed to outperform Colby in the challenge. His message to everybody is to not worry about scrambling. Just enjoy the afternoon before voting him out. James doesn’t like that Colby seems to have just given up.

Despite that, there’s even more talk about getting rid of James. It would seem it’s all for show considering if they really wanted to get rid of James, they would have done so last time. Amanda warns him to prove himself and stop eating so much food. As proof he can still compete, James races JT across the beach, but he loses to a backward running JT.

Rob’s warning is that they need to split the vote. He knows they’re coming after Tyson. Problem is he’s telling his plans to Coach, who doesn’t want to work with them.

Russell would be okay with a three way tie. He thinks that would be genius, albeit perhaps not smart.

The Villains will be having their tribal council first, after which they will eat and watch the Heroes.

Sandra’s certain Russell has the idol, and if he doesn’t, he’d better look for it.

Russell stands up at tribal council, but he’s not going to play the idol. Rather, he hands it to Parvati. So she plays it. As smart moves go, that’s not one. Better her going home than him. Nonetheless, it sure is a bold and interesting play.

By a vote of 3-2, Tyson has been voted out. His own stupid fault for switching up the vote and voting for Parvati rather than Russell. Props to Russell for fooling Tyson into feeling comfortable with him.

Heroes get to vote next as the now full on hot dogs Villains head back to camp.

I don’t get it. Why now and not instead of Tom? Anyway, James heads out for a second time with an injury.

American Idol Season 9 Episode 24

Lacey Brown was the first member of the top 12 to be eliminated in American Idol Season 9 Episode 23. Tonight the top 11 perform Billboard’s #1s. This week’s mentor is Miley Cyrus. Presumably, her advice to the contestants will be to land a highly rated TV show.

Lee DeWyze
Song: The Letter by The Box Tops
Randy: Knocked out of the box.
Ellen: My favorite pen is back.
Kara: Raised the bar. Never sounded better or looked more comfortable.
Simon: Not a recording performance. Quite corny. But sounded good.

Paige Miles
Song: Against All Odds by Phil Collins
Randy: Yo. Wow. Terrible.
Ellen: You look great.
Kara: Worst vocal ever from you and possibly of the season.
Simon: Like there were five of you singing that. Progressively worse with each one.

Tim Urban
Song: Crazy Little Thing Called Love by Queen
Randy: Vocals were so boring. Like bad karaoke.
Ellen: Like an audition for High School Musical.
Kara: Little girls will love that, but not cougars. Acted like you already made it.
Simon: Pointless and silly.

Aaron Kelly
Song: I Don’t Want to Miss a Thing by Aerosmith
Randy: Thank god you came on the stage and started singing.
Ellen: Perfect song choice. So good.
Kara: Best song choice of the night. Know how to pick a song that accentuates your voice. Want more stage presence.
Simon: Making yourself old fashioned, but there is zero chance you will go home.

Crystal Bowersox
Song: Me and Bobby McGee by Janis Joplin
Randy: Star and a dope singer.
Ellen: Nothing wrong with that performance. Feels like a little bit of something between you and the audience.
Kara: Felt more but want to see you let go more.
Simon: Wouldn’t change anything. As good as Pink’s version.

Michael Lynche
Song: When a Man Loves a Woman by Michael Bolton
Randy: Best thing you can do is sing the I don’t know what out of who you are.
Ellen: Safe choice but amazing tone and great voice.
Kara: Really good technically. A bit boring, loungey, overindulgent.
Simon: Almost too much. Could have taken place 30 years ago.

Andrew Garcia
Song: Heard It through the Grapevine by Marvin Gaye
Randy: Not good. Wrong song choice.
Ellen: Not enough to get people onboard.
Kara: Don’t know what to do up there. Didn’t feel like you up there.
Simon: Arrangement was horrific. Sucked the soul out of that song.

Katie Stevens
Song: Big Girls Don’t Cry by Fergie
Randy: A little sharp all over the place, but you at least listened and are trying to be younger.
Ellen: Your best performance so far.
Kara: Pop with R&B leanings is the right lane for you. Not country like Simon says. Still got mad pitch issues.
Simon: Not sure you’re believable in this area. Could find a loyal market in country. But it was a good performance.

Casey James
Song: Power of Love by Huey Lewis & The News
Randy: Not a fan of the song choice, but you did it well.
Ellen: Best vocal of the night.
Kara: Ready to make an album.
Simon: Was old fashioned 25 years ago when it came out. Like watching an 80s cover band.

Didi Benami
Song: You’re No Good by Linda Ronstadt
Randy: Pitch never quite caught.
Ellen: Don’t get the song choices tonight.
Kara: Felt like playing a character.
Simon: Ironic. Like a musical (the bad part). Didn’t sound like you.

Siobhan Magnus
Song: Superstition by Stevie Wonder
Randy: Happy you sang that song.
Ellen: More please.
Kara: Express yourself every time you perform.
Simon: Some people will like it. A lot won’t. The screaming at the end needs to be changed up.

The Biggest Loser Season 9 Episode 10

The last remaining mom was eliminated in The Biggest Loser Season 9 Episode 9 when Sherry went home.

All of the remaining contestants are going home for a week. They’re all quite happy about this, but it’s usually bad news.

They don’t even have time to get settled in before being greeted by a huge box in the middle of their living room. Could be a thousand cupcakes. Could be Jillian. It’s an exercise bike, a massive mess of packing peanuts, and a mystery box. Yeah, that box would contain cupcakes, along with a DVD. They will be repeating the first challenge by riding 26.2 miles (this time without a partner). Reward is $10,000. So what’s up with the cupcakes? Each one contains 100 calories. For every one they eat, they can add 5 minutes to someone else’s time. O’Neal will not participate for medical reasons, but he hates that bike anyway, seeing as it sent him home the first time.

Some of them are honest about having sweet teeth, but I hate it when these contestants pretend they’re revolted by foods they used to love. Healthy eating is about balance. Cold turkey for life ain’t gonna cut it. Ashley has decided not to eat any cupcakes. Melissa is pushing Lance to give some minutes to Sam. Sam & Koli will not be eating. Michael and Andrea also target Sam. Now Melissa suggests that Lance target Daris. Sunshine opts to not eat. Stephanie as well. Lance ends up eating 17 cupcakes with his wife sitting there egging him on the whole time. Andrea ate 9. Michael ate 6.

Lance & Melissa, living out in the country an hour from the gym, have to make it work without. They find ways to exercise at home, such as the exercise machines they bought two years ago and used as clothes hangers.

O’Neal’s a firm believer of pushing himself, even if it means an injury. He insists he’s fine, and he’s the dad, so that’s it.

Ashley’s reunited with her mom and looking for payback against the blue team.

Sam wants to get rid of all that unhealthy and high calorie food, going shopping for something he actually is allowed to eat.

Ashley goes out to lunch, where she’s forced to salivate over what her family is eating, but she changes her order so that it’s good for her.

Andrea goes to the bowling alley. Good luck finding something to eat there.

Daris has hooked up with his friend Randi, heading out on his first date. He’s also confident to make a fool out of himself singing karaoke without any liquid encouragement.

Daris doesn’t like bikes much. Stephanie just doesn’t want to finish last. Their family members all get cell phones, which they will use to get minutely updates how the race is progressing. It’s not long before Sam & Koli take the lead. Sunshine’s about a mile behind Sam after 10 miles. Lance is running about even with her. Sam’s the first to reach 13.1. It goes without saying that this is Sam’s to win, as everybody expected during the temptation. Lance, however, has managed to overtake Koli, who proved to be a bigger threat than perhaps people expected. Sam completes the race in 1 hour and 17 minutes. That ain’t gonna come close to holding. I’d expect him around 2 hours. In 1:18:40, Koli places second. 21 seconds later, Lance finishes. Sunshine takes 4th place at 1:23:29. Daris finishes at 1:25:35. Andrea finishes at 1:36:35. Stephanie finishes at 1:37:05. Ashley finishes at 1:40:48. Michael considers it a win to just finish, and he completes the challenge in 1:41:30.

Allison tells them it ain’t over yet. A lot of cupcakes were eaten. Stephanie had 7 cupcakes added to her time, dropping her into last place. Sam had 10 cupcakes added, dropping him to 8th place. Andrea had 5 cupcakes added, which puts her in 7th. Sunshine received 6 cupcakes, which drops her to 6th. Daris received 4 cupcakes, putting him in 5th. Lance, Ashley, and Michael had no cupcakes added. Koli, likewise, did not have any cupcakes added, so he is the winner.

Daris says he had a few days that he didn’t feel like he got in what he should have. O’Neal agrees there were a lot of distractions. Lance also didn’t bother exercising sometimes due to guilt about not spending enough time with his family. As for Michael, his mind was on his grandmother, who’s not progressing, but at least he’s dealing with stress by exercising rather than eating.

O’Neal: 295 pounds (-7, 2.32%)
Sunshine: 208 pounds (-8, 3.70%)
Lance: 274 pounds (-8, 2.84%)
Michael: 389 pounds (-8, 2.02%)
Koli: 287 pounds (-10, 3.37%)
Daris: 244 pounds (-4, 1.61%)
Blue Total: -45 pounds, 2.58%

Andrea: 232 pounds (-6, 2.52%)
Stephanie: 199 pounds (-9, 4.33%)
Ashley: 276 pounds (-10, 3.50%)
Sam: 264 pounds (-14, 5.04%)
Black Total: -39 pounds, 3.86%

While it would be easy to point some fingers, blue team just got owned, so it’s hard to really blame anybody. Sunshine has the highest percentage of weight loss on her team and is safe.

As sensible decisions go, that was not one. With 4 votes, Lance is not The Biggest Loser. When he arrives home, he’s able to do stuff with his son, like climbing that mountain he’s been looking at for years.

The Celebrity Apprentice 3 Episode 2

The disastrous women’s team turned on Carol Leifer after Donald Trump started swearing over their indecision, and she was the first person booted from the show in The Celebrity Apprentice 3 Episode 1.

Kodak gets the spotlight this week. The task is to relaunch Kodak Moments by creating their own photo studio and storefront experience.

Sinbad will be the project manager for the guys, by appointment of the governor. The women dance around it for a while before picking Maria Kanellis.

Sharon thinks Maria is trying to prove herself, which is exactly what is going on.

Michael Johnson doesn’t think anybody really understands what Sinbad is saying.

When the executives show up, Cyndi Lauper decides that’s a good time to go to the bathroom. So rather than proceeding and filling her in later, the women insist that they stop and wait. The execs don’t want to wait any longer because they’re short on time. Really? You get this kind of exposure, and you don’t budget much time for it? When Cyndi does return, she’s got a bunch of questions about how to use the camera.

Cyndi keeps asking questions (questions that seem fine to me), which is grating on Maria, Summer, and Holly.

Bret would like to know what Sinbad wants him to do. It does not appear that Sinbad knows what he wants him to do. Rod Blagojevich doesn’t have anything to do either, so he gets on the phone and then goes outside to talk to the public and continue trying to clear his name.

Maria’s charity is the Make A Wish Foundation, and they will be sending some kids down to incorporate them into the task.

Don Jr. sees a lot more organization from the women this time. Ivanka is worried that the guys are relying solely on celebrity, which may not be something the executives like.

Bret’s not any happier as the task goes on. He believes the producers will make him out to be a villain. He’s sure giving them ammo to work with.

The guys all run out into the street to take photos, which may prove to be a bonding experience for them.

For the women, their concept is a red carpet for a celebrity moment of being a champion in the WWE.

As the women she’s with try to get something accomplished, Cyndi babbles on endlessly with stories that really don’t matter. Selita makes up any excuse to run away.

On the advice of the medical team, Sharon Osbourne will be heading home for the night. This is why she did not take on the task of project manager because she thought she was getting sick.

As for the men, nobody’s confident in the plan, or lack thereof. They’re hoping for a miracle. Either that, or the girls will need to fall on their faces, which doesn’t appear like it’s going to happen.

The next morning, Bret’s late, which is apparently becoming a pattern, so they leave him behind.

Sharon, meanwhile, says she’s feeling better (as she’s hacking away), enough so that she is able to rejoin her team.

Sinbad placed the order with the printing company for the pictures they took on the streets. That order got mixed up. This leaves the guys with a blank wall, running against the clock and just hoping they get something. With 5 minutes to spare, the delivery arrives. It’s on the smallish side, but it helps fill in the wall some.

Still somewhat sickly, Sharon has been assigned to the task of handling and passing out cupcakes and water. That aside, Maria’s vision has come together well and seems to be flowing smoothly.

Unlike the women, who have a station at the end to hand out their celebrity pictures, the guys have opted for another strategy. Since it would take too much time to print the pictures anyway, they print out cards telling people how they can get their pictures online, which offers them an added benefit of being able to talk about the web experience. The other advantage is that, when the power goes out, the women need to wait for their machines to come back up, causing increasing lines around that printing station.

Each team is visited by secret shoppers. First up is James, who is confused by the men. Then Lauren visits the women, who greet her at the door and explain everything, but the printing station is chaos.

Although they seem to have pulled everything else together, the men have neglected to have anyone demonstrating the product. They also failed to hand out web cards to everyone, including two of the secret shoppers.

Maria loved her team. Once again, the women aren’t going to be able to say anything bad about each other.

Sinbad thought Darryl Strawberry and Goldberg were the big draws.

The Kodak executives loved the job that the women did, so the women win. As the winning project manager, Maria wins $20,000 for her charity.

Sinbad says that Bret lost a little bit of focus. Bret’s response is that Sinbad ignored him.

Michael agrees that he was not being led either, but unlike Bret, he found something to do. So who was the stronger leader of the two? Bret. But he was not a better follower.

Curtis says that Sinbad was an average leader. Michael agrees. Always the politician, Rod talks and talks without really saying anything. When pushed, he agrees that Sinbad didn’t delegate strongly enough.

Sinbad returns to the boardroom with Bret and Rod. At least this week we have people able to make a decision.

Bret says that Sinbad’s lack of organization on the first day is to blame.

Why did Sinbad bring Rod back in? Because he couldn’t bring the other guys back.

Rod would fire the project manager, since nobody on the team failed.

Bret’s explanation for his disappearance was that it was a self imposed timeout, rather than getting into a fight. Sinbad thinks he’s manageable, albeit not easily.

Having lost control of the task and Bret, Sinbad is fired. His advice to those who remain: throw people under the bus.

The Amazing Race 16 Episode 6

On the heels of an oddly decided U-turn, Joe & Heidi were eliminated in The Amazing Race 16 Episode 5.

Teams depart in the order in which they arrived.

First: Louie & Michael – 7:47AM
Second: Steve & Allie – 8:04AM
Third: Jet & Cord – 8:13AM
Fourth: Dan & Jordan – 8:17AM
Fifth: Carol & Brandy – 8:39AM
Sixth: Brent & Caite – 9:48AM
Seventh: Jordan & Jeff – 10:28AM

The gap between the teams is pretty ridiculous, so the trailing teams should start hoping now for some bunching.

Departing from their current location, a town with a population of 43, teams will now drive to Reims, also in France, where they will find a statue of Joan of Arc, not to be confused (by anyone other than Jordan) with Noah.

Navigator Allie is apparently not doing her father much good in that role. She tells him he needs to look at the map because she doesn’t know where they are.

As some of the teams pray for warmer weather, Rhode Islanders Louie & Michael consider the current temperature to be mild.

Jet & Cord believe their clue is sending them to the town of Champagne. The other teams just go to the tourism office, a strategy that proves to be the right way to go. The cowboys, meanwhile, are in for a driveathon to the wrong town, remaining lost until they stop and ask for directions.

The road block is to rappel into caverns and search the champagne bottles for one that is specially marked. Jordan does the task because his brother’s been doing the others, but he’s afraid of heights. Brandy’s pissed off (again). Yeah, this apparently isn’t what she signed up for either.

Road block (in order of arrival): Jordan, Louie, Steve, Brandy, Cord, Brent, Jeff

They will find their next clue at a nearby chateau and vineyard. Two of the teams get conflicting information. Louie & Michael are told The Chateau Marquetterie is in Pierry, while Dan & Jordan are told it’s in Reims. A pattern develops from there, with people getting a different answer depending on who they ask. Finding this stop first could well determine the placement for the leg.

It turns out that they make the champagne in Reims at a building of the same name, but that’s not the actual destination. Louie & Michael follow a guy who knows right where it is, which allows them to retake the lead.

Arriving at the wrong place, Steve hits something with the car, resulting in a car that’s not going to drive very well or far. You can fix anything with duct tape, though. Hopefully even a broken Mercedes.

The detour is a choice between tower or terra. In tower, teams must use exactly 680 glasses to build a tower 15 levels high, then fill it with champagne. In terra teams must search a square kilometer of land to find grapes marked with race colors. Ouch. Neither detour is particularly appealing, but somehow the searching detour turns out to be the way to go.

Tower: Dan & Jordan
Terra: Louie & Michael, Carol & Brandy, Steve & Allie, Jet & Cord, Brent & Caite (switched from terra to tower to terra), Jordan & Jeff (switched from tower)

Once again, Brent & Caite skip clues. They are the third team to arrive at the pit stop, but they didn’t do the detour.

Brent & Caite are arguing during the detour. She hates his decision, so she wants to fight. Having just seen the cowboys solve their detour quickly, Caite continues to argue, so they decide to switch detours… and continue to bicker. Not having pre-planned their math, Dan & Jordan realize when it’s too late that they’re up a creek with their tower, but they manage to make it work and finish the detour anyway, although they lose a few places in the process because the other detour was so much easier. Brent & Caite, however, are not so lucky, as their tower of glasses collapses. Should have just stuck with the grape search. This allows Jordan & Jeff to have renewed hope, as they arrive and see them still searching. Hoping that they can get ahead, they go for the glass detour, but the hope is shattered along with their falling glasses.

The pit stop for this leg of the race is L’Orrca, a historic mansion.

First: Louie & Michael (win a trip to Cancun)
Second: Carol & Brandy
Third: Steve & Allie
Fourth: Jet & Cord
Fifth: Dan & Jordan
Sixth: Brent & Caite
Eliminated: Jordan & Jeff

Living on borrowed time the last couple of legs, Jordan & Jeff have finally been eliminated.

Lost Season 6 Episode 8

Following everybody making their trek toward the beach in Lost Season 6 Episode 7, Charles Widmore discovered them, telling his crew to proceed as planned, despite the fact that there were people there.

Sawyer’s looking to work with Locke, or whoever he is, in order to make his way off the island. Jin’s not willing to leave because Sun might be there. With that, Sawyer promises not to leave until they find her.

Back on the mainland, Sawyer’s got a meeting with some guy. Suitcase full of money in hand. The chick he’s with is married to a conman, so she knows when she’s being conned. He suggests she do the right thing, or otherwise the cops surrounding the building will be busting her. She doesn’t buy what she considers his bluff, so officer Miles has to bust in with his men and make the arrest. Strangely enough, James, too, is a cop.

Without Aaron, Claire had to make her own son out of a skull and other random oddness.

Locke informs those who are still alive that the black smoke killed everybody who stayed behind at the temple. Kate asks Sawyer if he’s with Locke now. Nope, he ain’t with anybody.

Locke wants to talk to James to tell him he’s the smoke thing. He didn’t rescue anybody. Those who died were convinced they were protecting the island from him, so it’s either kill or be killed. Now he has a recon mission for Sawyer. He’s going to Hydra Island, where there’s a plane. Some of the other passengers may mean to do them harm. If he does this, they get on that plane, fly off that island, and never look back. Pretty convincing argument.

Detective Ford meets Charlotte, the redhead who died on the island. He tells her it got to the point where he was either going to be a criminal or a cop, so he chose cop. Well, that pretty much leads to her jumping his bones. When she goes rifling through his drawer and inadvertently finds a story about the local man who killed himself and his wife, leaving his 9 year old son behind, James throws her out.

While Kate’s chatting with Sayid, Claire pulls out a knife and jumps her. Sayid sits there and watches until Locke breaks up the fight. He warns Claire that trying to kill people like that is completely inappropriate.

Sawyer arrives at the island, where he’s promptly greeted by a bunch of dead rotting bodies. There is someone alive, though. She says she’s the only one left.

Miles would like to know what Sawyer was doing in Australia when he was supposed to be in Palm Springs. None of his damn business.

The remaining survivor on Hydra Island is Zoe, who was out collecting wood when she heard screaming. When she came back, they were dead.

Locke accepts responsibility for Claire’s behavior, since he told her that the others had her baby. He wanted to give her something to keep going, something to hate.

Zoe’s sure full of questions. So now Sawyer would like some answers. When he pulls out his gun to try to get the truth, a bunch of people with weapons jump out and point them at him. Is her name even Zoe? Probably about as much as his is Sawyer’s.

Kate referred to Locke as a dead man. He objects to that. Oh, and like his mother was crazy, Aaron, too, has a crazy mother.

Sawyer’s hauled off to a submarine and told to get in. He’s waiting for him.

After learning a lesson about life from (where else?) an episode of Little House on the Prairie, Sawyer returns to Charlotte, who doesn’t care.

Once inside the sub, Sawyer meets up with Charles Widmore, the fellow who sent a freighter to the island loaded with guys to kill them all. He denies having murdered those people. Sawyer has a deal that makes Charles smile. He’ll go back, say the coast is clear, bring Locke back, and then Widmore can go ahead and kill him. In exchange, his people don’t get touched, and they get safe passage off the island.

Claire has decided she no longer wants Kate dead.

Contrary to his deal with Widmore, James tells Locke the whole story. They’re trying to keep out that smoke thing, and there’s a locked room where they’re hiding.

Sawyer has decided to tell his partner Miles what he’s up to. He’s looking for Anthony Cooper, who he’s been chasing since he left the academy. When he finds the right one, he’s going to kill him. During this chat, they get run into by a fleeing suspect. That would be Kate.

The plan is to just let Locke and Widmore’s crew fight it out. While they’re busy, Sawyer and Kate will be to get off the island. They’re taking the sub.

American Idol Season 9 Episode 23

The top 12 performed in American Idol Season 9 Episode 22, making tonight the first full hour of filler of the season, as one person will be sent home.

Starting this week, the judges get one save whenever they unanimously choose to save someone. Last year, they used it on Matt Giraud, who was then sent home two weeks later.

Paige Miles is the first person to join the bottom three.

Lee DeWyze is safe. Siobhan Magnus is safe. Aaron Kelly is safe. Andrew Garcia and Tim Urban both get poor reviews from Kara, who would be comfortable seeing either of them go. Andrew can sit down. Tim joins the bottom three.

Didi Benami is safe. Crystal Bowersox is safe. Katie Stevens is safe. Michael Lynche is safe. Casey James and Lacey Brown will duke it out for the final spot in the bottom three. Lacey is the one in danger.

Simon says one of the three in the bottom three is worth saving. The first one sent back to safety is Tim.

That leaves Lacey and Paige in the bottom two. Randy’s not surprised to see them there. Paige is safe. Lacey Brown is out unless the judges save her. They won’t. Too early to use it.
