Beauty and the Geek 4 Winner

Beauty and the Geek 4 Episode 11 was pretty much just a way to fill an hour. Rather than revealing the winner, they told us it was just a popularity contest, and that America would vote for the winner. It’s now down to the final two: Sam & Nicole and Jasmine & David.

Jen kinda misses William. Huh?

Will tells us he was so embarassed by how people felt about him. He had no idea that it was actually happening.

Dave says Jasmine was helpless on purpose but became more self sufficient as time went on. Jasmine noticed confidence and sociability in Dave.

Joshua, who called David & Jasmine out for not growing enough, doesn’t regret this move, even if it did give them a kick in the pants.

On the picking up bug competition that as usual unfairly favored Sam, Jasmine made the mistake of saying her one regret was not being able to pick up the spider. So they bring him back and make her touch it now, with the assistance of her partner. She’s able to touch one of its legs. Barely.

Sam and Rebecca missed each other. Any bets on how long this lasts?

Rebecca doesn’t hold any hard feelings against Nicole for wanting her out, and Will thinks she was a genius for plotting to get rid of them.

Rebecca was happy to see Amanda leave, considering she knew Sam liked her first.

Joshua learned not to fight Shay. Shay learned patience. Shay thinks they’re the old married couple. Joshua thinks she’s the bossy mom, but it’s because she cares about how he turns out. They surprise the cast by bringing out Joshua’s actual mom. She wasn’t real pleased with the new look, but she was happy he was happy.

The viewers voted Sam as the beauty they most have a crush on, which was easy to see coming since the girls all split any male votes, while the female voters likely made up the largest percentage. Joshua was easily voted as the geekiest, another pretty obvious result. Josh came in second.

Josh wasn’t around for the makeover but did decide to do his own. He’s got a new hairstyle, new wardrobe, and has gotten rid of all his body hair. Looks to me like another ringer who wasn’t overly geeky to begin with. He claims he did this because Rebecca promised him she’d give him a full back massage. So they just happen to have a massage table to make this promise come true.

Hollie plans to go back to school and study anthropology. Jen will take her realtor’s course.

Josh has a girlfriend now. Luke’s a player.

And the winners of Beauty and the Geek Season 4 are… Jasmine and Dave. America got it right.

The Amazing Race 12 Episode 5

Trying to play up their new U-turn twist as something that actually made a difference in the leg results, the producers tried to make us think Lorena & Jason were eliminated from The Amazing Race 12 Episode 4 as a result of the U-turn. The fact that they were an hour and a half behind because of the ridiculous whining at the camel task was disregarded. Anyway, we’ll probably be greeted with some more drama about Shana & Jennifer’s decision to use the U-turn in tonight’s episode.

Tonight the show’s starting on time. That’s new.

Teams depart in the order in which they arrived.

First: Azaria & Hendekea (6:45am)
Second: Nathan & Jennifer (6:46am)
Third: Ronald & Christina (7:17am)
Fourth: Nicolas & Donald (7:18am)
Fifth: Kynt & Vyxsin (7:22am)
Sixth: Shana & Jennifer (7:44am)
Seventh: TK & Rachel (7:59am)

The next destination is Vilinius, Lithuania.

Azaria admits he’s a bit harsh with Hendekea. Jennifer’s done crying now and just says she’s hungry for a win this time. Christina tells her father she loves him out of obligation more than anything else. He wants to teach her how to deal with various kinds of people… because he’s not a total train wreck at doing so himself

Nicolas & Donald arrive at the ticket office before most other teams, but because they get a person who doesn’t speak English, the seats they were arranging ended up being given to Azaria & Hendekea. For some reason, though, after they leave, there’s still another set of seats for Nathan & Jennifer. But despite all the drama and the original seats that were scheduled to arrive after 5PM, they get seats on another flight at 1:35PM, 10 minutes after the first flight.

As expected, Shana & Jennifer are being ridiculous about using the U-turn, as Jennifer doesn’t agree with the decision to use it and was quick to point this out to us and the other teams.

1st flight (arrives 1:25PM): Azaria & Hendekea, Nathan & Jennifer, Shana & Jennifer
2nd flight (arrives 1:35PM): Nicolas & Donald, TK & Rachel, Kynt & Vyxsin
3rd flight (arrives 2:10PM): Ronald & Christina

The first and second flights are within minutes of each other and run into each other pretty quickly. Most people are just guessing where they’re going. Last place Ronald & Christina hire a taxi to show them the way.

Nathan & Jennifer are falling apart, getting mean and nasty with each other for no apparent reason.

In the road block, they must become a Lithuanian messenger, delivering packages through allegedly confusing streets. Most people don’t appear to have a lot of difficulty.

Road block: Nicolas, Kynt, Hendekea, Ronald, TK, Jennifer, Shana

Nicolas gets stuck on his second delivery, and all the other teams pass him. The blondes go in circles for a while and are the last ones to arrive at the road block. Both teams finish the road block at the same time.

The next stop is a Lithuanian museum. There, teams must find gnomes. Of course, this is sponsored by Travelocity. This doesn’t appear to serve any actual purpose other than product placement.

The detour is a choice between count down or step up. In count down, they’ll count every picket that makes up a fence. Counting tasks typically suck, particularly for teams with minimal patience (no need to point them out). In step up, they’ll stilt walk along a marked course. If they fall off, they must return to the beginning.

Step up: TK & Rachel, Ronald & Christina, Nathan & Jennifer (after trying count down)
Count down: Kynt & Vyxsin (after trying step up), Azaria & Hendekea (after trying step up), Nicolas & Donald, Shana & Jennifer

Kynt & Vyxsin seem to have an easy time at counting. Ronald overcomes the hernia to finish the physical task, which it was fairly silly for them to do in the first place. Nathan & Jennifer are drove crazy by counting. Shana & Jennifer just simply can’t seem to agree on anything… still.

The pitstop for this leg of the race is a working windmill.

First: TK & Rachel (win a trip to Japan)
Second: Kynt & Vyxsin
Third: Ronald & Christina
Fourth: Azaria & Hendekea
Fifth: Nathan & Jennifer
Sixth: Nicolas & Donald
Seventh: Shana & Jennifer (eliminated)

A lot of people will probably try to point this out as karma, but at the end of the day, their problem was that they couldn’t work together as a team. The finger pointing that came with the U-turn was a pretty clear example of this, and it continued throughout this leg as well. The best thing about this is that now there’s only one person named Jennifer in this race (even though both are equally annoying). What was up with that anyway?

Next week, Azaria loses patience with Hendekea, and Nathan and Jennifer decide they hate each other. So basically more of the same.

The Biggest Loser 4 Episode 12

The inevitable boot choice in The Biggest Loser 4 Episode 11 was Kae once she dropped below the yellow line. Despite her elimination, Kae has been by far the most successful female in the show’s history, not to mention more successful than most of the men.

Alison greets everybody in the gym and says that this week, the fate of everybody in that room rests in the hands of America. Yeah, that’s never good. People had to go online and vote for their favorite challenge. 1) US Bank climb up 74 flights of stairs. 2) Never-ending jumprope. 3) Poles over water. 4) Endless escalator.

Bill really wants the escalator challenge. Bryan wants something that’s not a stair challenge. Nicole believes the pole challenge may give blue team an advantage because of their meditation with Bob.

Bryan’s still trying to figure out what’s going on with his nutrition. It’s been too long for him to still be at this stage. Kim has him go over exactly what he’s eating to try to figure it out. She’s okay with his breakfast. She’s okay with his lunch. Until he tells her he marinates things in soy sauce, a high sodium food, which creates an environment for retaining water.

The challenge that America picks is the poles over water challenge. Contestants will be suspended above water holding on to poles. Whoever doesn’t fall wins. Last time, this challenge lasted for an hour. Andre Agassi tells them the winner will get a vacation to Tamarack Resort Idaho. Isabeau struggles right away and is first out. Neil’s not far behind. Nicole falls next. Bryan falls next, and Hollie’s a couple seconds after that. That brings us down to Julie and Bill, both of whom are just relaxing. Julie’s worried because she knows what kind of competition she’s up against. There’s a lot of heckling from the sidelines, as people are rooting for Julie to win, or at least for Bill to lose. Eventually, though, Julie does slip and fall, and Bill wins. Nobody pretends to be happy for him. They’re tired of him winning everything. They’ll be really tired of him if he wins the whole thing, which he’s well on his way to doing. He’s happy because this is the vacation he promised his kids.

After the challenge, everybody decides to have some fun because they haven’t seen a pool in a while, except for Hollie who just sits on the side of the pool and pouts. Ignoring the no diving signs, Nicole chips her teeth on the bottom of the pool. She has to get temporary teeth but remains positive.

The doctors come to give the contestants some good news. Neil has lost an equivalent of 3.5 of the Poland Springs water jugs from his body. Despite having lost the least weight, Julie has lost 45% of her waist line, more than the other contestants. Isabeau, who was pre-diabetic, currently has the best insulin of the group. Bill has been taken off his blood pressure medication but has still lowered his blood pressure to 128/80, within range of normal blood pressure. Bryan’s cholesterol has dropped over 100 points. Nicole has gained 11 pounds of muscle and lost the most amount of fat proportionately. Despite her thyroid problem, Hollie has lost over 40% of the area of her hips.

During the last chance workout, Neil looks like he’s going to collapse half the time. Unlike the black team girls who whine long before they get to that stage, he just keeps going and going without any complaints. Bill and Bryan have similar attitudes. Speaking of black team girls whining, Hollie modified her workout because she has an injured ankle. She tells Jillian she can still box, though, so Jillian offers the opportunity to do so, and she refuses so she can pout instead.

Bryan: 266 pounds (-4, 1.48%)
Isabeau: 230 pounds (-4, 1.71%)
Bill: 222 pounds (-6, 2.63%)
Nicole: 212 pounds (-6, 2.75%)
Hollie: 201 pounds (-3, 1.47%)
Julie: 171 pounds (-5, 2.84%)
Neil: 298 pounds (-5, 1.65%)

That puts Bryan and Hollie below the yellow line. We know Hollie’s got two votes for her to stay. Now it’s just a matter of whether Bill tries to break up that trio. Unluckily for Bryan, Hollie’s not only got black team support, but she’s also the weakest threat of the group. Bryan assures Kim she’s taught him enough, as they both assume he’s gone.

Votes
Isabeau: Bryan
Neil: Hollie
Bill: Bryan
Julie: Bryan

With Bryan’s elimination, the red team is now gone. Today, he weighs 228 pounds, down 118 pounds from his starting weight of 346. He hopes to become a successful recording artist now that he’s comfortable performing.

The Amazing Race Asia 2 Episode 2

We started off the season with two teams nobody’s going to like both competing for last place. In the end of The Amazing Race Asia 2 Episode 1, the excessively loud Terri and her husband Henry came in 9th place. They were followed by bickering dating couple Edwin & Monica, but like last season, the first leg was a non-elimination, so we’re still stuck with both teams. On the other end of the spectrum, sisters Vanessa & Pamela managed to stay ahead of fitness enthusiasts Rovilson & Marc to take first place.

Teams depart in the order in which they arrived.

First: Pamela & Vanessa (7:19am)
Second: Rovilson & Marc (7:26am)
Third: Ann & Diane (7:32am)
Fourth: Brett & Kinaryosih (7:35am)
Fifth: Aurelia & Sophie (7:44am)
Sixth: Paula & Natasha (8:21am)
Seventh: Adrian & Collin (8:22am)
Eighth: Daichi & Sawaka (8:49am)
Ninth: Terri & Henry (9:40am)
Tenth: Edwin & Monica (9:53am)

Teams must take a taxi to the Green Star bus terminal, where they will catch a bus to the Pila Municipal Center in Pila Laguna, an hour and a half outside Manila.

Looking at their airport map, Ann & Diane see Marc (of Rovilson & Marc), who’s a TV host/model from the Philippines.

At the suggestion of the boys, the first two teams beg the bus driver to stop waiting and instead take off. It works. The bus leaves every 15 minutes, or whenver the bus driver feels like leaving.

Manila to Pila Laguna
Bus 1: Pamela & Vanessa, Rovilson & Marc
Bus 2: Brett & Kinaryosih, Ann & Diane
Bus 3: Aurelia & Sophie
Bus 4: Paula & Natasha, Adrian & Collin
Bus 5: Daichi & Sawaka
Bus 6: Terri & Henry
Bus 7: Edwin & Monica

On their bus, Paula & Natasha beg for money.

At the road block, racers must travel by tricycle to the rice paddy field, select a carabao, and plow a figure 8 through the field. Animal tasks are notorious for lack of cooperation.

Road block: Marc, Pamela, Kinaryosih, Diane, Aurelia, Natasha, Adrian, Daichi, Henry, Edwin

The road block turns out to be pretty straightforward, as these animals actually listen to commands. While everybody other than Marc struggles, there are no major breakdowns like the camel milking task.

Teams must then proceed to the Caltex Star Mart in Manila, since Caltex is a sponsor. When they get there, they must collect boxes of donations and deliver them to a children’s shelter. It’s a nice task, and the kids are cute… just not particularly willing to share or be patient.

Pila Laguna to Manila
Bus 1: Rovilson & Marc
Bus 2: Vanessa & Pamela, Brett & Kinaryosih
Bus 3: Ann & Diane
Bus 4: Sophie & Aurelia
Bus 5: Paula & Natasha, Adrian & Collin
Bus 6: Daichi & Sawaka
Bus 7: Terri & Henry
Bus 8: Edwin & Monica

Heading back to Manila, Vanessa & Pamela fail to read the entire clue (the part that says to go to Manila), and the boys leave them behind. Bus 2 breaks down, a potential break for the later teams. Vanessa & Pamela decide to take a taxi. Should be a penalty, unless there was something about this I missed.

Detour is a choice between heel or wheel. In heel, teams must match up all 250 pairs of shoes. In wheel, teams must assemble a bicycle. The task that requires no skill sounds more logical.

Wheel: Rovilson & Marc, Vanessa & Pamela, Ann & Diane, Aurelia & Sophie, Daichi & Sawaka, Terri & Henry, Edwin & Monica
Heel: Brett & Kinaryosih, Adrian & Collin, Paula & Natasha

Pamela & Vanessa get dropped off, well, they don’t really know where. Odd considering the show apparently arranged for the transportation and should have told the drivers where they were headed. It doesn’t seem to cost them too much time, though.

Rovilson & Marc assemble their bike first… with the handlebar facing the wrong way. After correcting this, they still manage to finish first. Paula & Natasha look forward to the shoe task because they have more shoes than that.

Paula & Natasha see a taxi with someone in it, get her out, and offer to pay her fare to take her cab.

The next pitstop is Paco Park & Cemetery in Manila, the original resting place of the Filipino hero Jose Rizal.

First: Rovilson & Marc (win $5000US)
Second: Paula & Natasha
Third: Diane & Ann
Fourth: Pamela & Vanessa
Fifth: Adrian & Collin
Sixth: Brett & Kinaryosih
Seventh: Aurelia & Sophie
Eighth: Daichi & Sawaka
Ninth: Terri & Henry
Tenth: Edwin & Monica (eliminated)

Not a particularly suspenseful leg, and not really well designed either. It was pretty obvious based on the leg design that Edwin & Monica had no prayer of catching up. Oddly enough, neither of these two teams that were so annoying last time were particularly annoying this time. Until the end when Edwin started yelling at Monica again and calls her useless.

Survivor: China Episode 11

As much as they wanted to get rid of the person annoying them the most, Peih-Gee, in Survivor: China Episode 9, her immunity win prevented that, so they got rid of Frosti instead, with every move being obviously orchestrated by Todd. We left the show at tribal council, where we were told there was more business to attend to.

They’re going to participate in a reward challenge right at tribal council. The winner will travel to the Shaolin Temple by private jet. Before the challenge even starts, they’re told they’ll need to choose two people to take with them. As twists go, this is rather lame. Fun to watch them sweat, but not worth a two week cliffhanger.

The challenge is multiple choice about China. Todd, James, Peih-Gee, and Denise get the first question right. Everybody got the second question right. Everybody except Denise got the third question right. Everybody except Amanda got the fourth question right, putting Peih-Gee, James, and Todd one away from winning. Peih-Gee wins reward. She picks Erik first, the only logical personal choice, then she chooses Denise, an odd choice, but Denise has made it clear she feels like the outcast of her tribe for a while. May be better off bonding further with Amanda, though.

Peih-Gee doesn’t waste any time. On the flight to the temple, she’s already discussing a final three plan. For some reason, though, she still sees James as someone potentially on her side. Back at camp, the others are discussing being the final four, but Amanda tells us she doesn’t want to go to the finals with any of them.

Denise mentions that she’s been studying karate for 8 years. When they get to the temple, they’re greeted with a martial arts demonstration from guys with the level of skill you would expect at the Shaolin Temple. Then the Survivors join in. Denise makes it obvious she’s probably the most grateful person who could have received the reward, so maybe there is some hope that Peih-Gee’s choice will pay off.

When they get back, Amanda goes out of the cave to greet everybody. The other three just stay hidden, avoiding the rain and probably the people returning.

Denise quickly goes to Todd and tells him Peih-Gee’s plan to be final three, as well as the first person mentioned as a boot, him.

James has no interest in flipping and doesn’t even pretend and dangle a ray of hope.

Amanda goes to Courtney with a plan. She wants James out because he’s got the two idols. If they don’t do it now, they won’t be able to because he will save himself at 6 and again at 5. He still feels unnecessarily secure, so this is definitely a plan that could work.

The immunity challenge is throwing Chinese stars. Peih-Gee scores 0. Todd hits once, scoring 3. Erik hits twice, scoring 6. Courtney hits all three times, scoring 6. Amanda hits twice, also scoring 6. Denise hits once, scoring 2. The four who scored 6 move onto the final round. In the final round, they get one throw each with a target 10 feet further out. Courtney misses. Amanda scores 2. Erik scores 3. James misses. Erik wins immunity.

James wants to take out Erik but will settle for Peih-Gee. Amanda goes to the rest of her group with the plan to get rid of James. Peih-Gee goes to Amanda to propose a James boot. Amanda tells her to shut up the rest of the day and pretend like she’s going home. Dangerous, but it may be her best plan. She does as she’s told, but she takes one extra step and suggests to Erik that they should vote for Todd, just in case James uses the idol.

James doesn’t play his idol.

Votes:
Todd
James
Peih-Gee
James
James
James

With two hidden idols in his back pocket, James gets blindsided. Well played, and hopefully a lesson for future players on how to get rid of the idols instead of letting them carry someone to the finals like they have for the past three seasons. It’s clear we’ve got one of the smartest casts we’ve seen in a while. That said, it’s no doubt this season’s most popular player just got the boot. He leaves with a positive attitude and won’t carry a grudge.

Next week, Amanda looks to get out from under Todd’s shadow, while Denise remains on the outside, which now is enough to make her a key swing vote.

Kid Nation Episode 11

A new town council was elected in Kid Nation episode 10. Michael beat Laurel, Guylan quit and gave it to DK, Greg beat Anjay, and Blaine beat Zach. They came up with a plan to teach Taylor a lesson for refusing to work, but they were not willing to be mean enough to carry it out, so she promised she’d try harder.

Taylor thinks all the ugly animals should die. The town council agrees that some chickens need to die. However, Greg wants to kill the brown chickens, which Taylor considers the pretty ones, which therefore should stay alive. To prevent complete chaos, Sophia lets Taylor choose which chickens should die.

The pioneers suggest that the kids need to study. Because the showdown might have something to do with the history books about Bonanza City, the town council supports this. Taylor hates school and reading. Laurel’s okay with it. Jared doesn’t want to be flipping burgers at the supermarket.

Leila and Taylor don’t care what the council says about studying. They take off and go to the chicken coop instead. So the council threatens them. Again. Leila’s willing to listen, but Taylor doesn’t budge.

As expected, the showdown is about the history books. It’s a combination pop quiz/slingshot competition. Green gets the first point, following yellow’s incorrect belief that Pinto is a native American tribe. Blue ties it at 1, then takes the lead with a second point. So when did the Ewoks settle America then? Yellow gets their first point, and green ties blue with their second. Red finally gets a point. Green district gets a third point to become the upper class, thanks to Hunter’s excellent shooting. Now that they’ve figured out how to use a slingshot, red gets their second point. Blue are the merchant class. Yellow gets a point to tie red at 2, then a third to take third place. Red district is laborers.

In order to win reward, they must conserve ammo so that they have enough to fill a jar. Red district wasted a lot of ammo, but it doesn’t matter since the other districts nearly filled it. Reward is a choice between a library (Taylor’s unimpressed) and an arcade. Greg and Blaine push for the arcade. Michael would prefer the library. They decide to go with the arcade and tell Taylor she’s not allowed to play any of the games.

Green district goes to play in the arcade, except Sophia, who builds a library to replace the one they didn’t choose. Hunter checks it out for a bit but then goes back to cleaning up the kitchen.

Red district must haul water first. Now it’s Jared and Mike’s turn to disobey, and they decide to go to the arcade without finishing their jobs.

Taylor says she just needs to be treated with respect. Oh, that explains it. In an effort to get in the arcade, though, she does agree to wash dishes. After the dishes are done, without much help from the rest of her district, they allow her to go in the arcade.

Sophia wakes up to a ghost town. They’re all in the arcade. Despite the fact that she’s upper class and the yellow district are all in the arcade, Sophia decides to cook breakfast for everybody on her own. She confronts Blaine about this, and he’s gambling instead of cooking. DK gets angry and begins to question the decision to get the arcade.

DK, Sophia, and Nathan don’t approve of the arcade. Everybody else is happy with it. DK suggests padlocking it, and the rest of the council supports doing this. The kids must get a certain amount of work done in order to get into the arcade. The council elects Sophia as sheriff, and she will be responsible for enforcing this.

Hunter wins the gold star, the sixth member of the green district to do so. I’ve been expecting that for a while. He says he’ll give a lot of the money to his father, who lost his job a year ago.

Next week, the town council leaves, and Sophia’s in charge. Someone’s gonna get a beatdown.

Dancing with the Stars 5 Winners

We’re down to the final three couples: Marie Osmond and Jonathan Roberts, Melanie Brown and Maksim Chmerkovskiy, and Helio Castroneves and Julianne Hough.

Marie and Jonathan are the first ones out, coming in third place. The winner will be announced after another 40 minutes of filler.

Mel and Maks do the mambo for their final dance. They get a perfect score of 30 from the judges, for a total of 85 out of 90 when combined with last night’s dances.

Helio and Julianne do the quickstep for their final dance. They also get a perfect score, for a total of 84 out of 90.

And the winners are… Helio and Julianne.

Beauty and the Geek 4 Episode 11

We got down to our final two in Beauty and the Geek 4 Episode 10. Obviously, one of those two teams is Sam & Nicole, this season’s twist. The other is Jasmine and David, which also is not a surprise, since they were considered a weak team, making them strategically a good team to drag further, though they did come on strong when they needed to.

Mike tells the teams there’s a(nother) new twist. This one probably won’t not suck any less than the previous ones. Before revealing that, though, the final two teams will get to go to each other’s home towns.

David takes Jasmine to Somerville, just outside of Boston. She’s concerned she’ll be judged for how she looks/talks, but that doesn’t present a problem. His friends surprise her when they tell her how social he is. She gets to be a LARPer. In public. In the process, she kills everybody except Dave, regardless of what side they’re on, but she can’t read the baron’s words because they’re not in Elvish.

Of course, the first place Sam takes Nicole to is the gym in Davis, CA. Then somehow the words coming out of her mouth are about being ready to go clubbing. She thinks there’s some point in the past in which he was a little more down to earth.

Sam goes to Nicole’s college, where he probably won’t find any frat parties. There she shows him she’s a good singer. Then she brings him to meet her roommates, where he likes to see her happy go lucky side coming out.

Nobody from Jasmine’s home is a cartoon character, which is disappointing to me. She takes him to visit her mom, then to babysit. On the visit, she learns Dave’s a friend.

Dave and Jasmine are hoping the winning team will be about who changed the most. Sam and Nicole are more interested in a quiz, or better yet one of the male-oriented beauty challenges Sam keeps winning.

Mike reveals how the winner will be determined. It’s not about who changed the most, or about what they’ve learned. Rather, it’s a popularity contest. America will vote.

Jasmine tells Dave to lighten up and just speak from the heart and have fun. Sam also wants to just have fun with it. Nicole would rather point out specifics and treat it like a quiz. It’s safe to say most people have already made up their minds, regardless of what’s said.

Nicole says she can relate to more people and take things a little less seriously. Sam says Nicole taught him how to not be crazy and unable to stand still, allowing him to be capable of learning. Jasmine and Dave point out how they didn’t want to be partners at first, but that they’ve grown and learned not to judge a book by its cover.

Voting will take place through Friday November 30th at noon EST, through both text messages and online.

Stay tuned to dingoRUE for another live recap of Beauty and the Geek 4 episode 12, where we will find out who the winner is.
