Survivor: Gabon Episode 9

The merge at 10 did not happen in Survivor: Gabon Episode 8. Instead, the tribes were shuffled (again). After her tribe spent time letting her know she was sixth of a six person alliance, Susie flipped and helped vote out Marcus.

Bob knows he’s gone if they don’t merge. Over on Fang, Matty’s not any more confident in his position in the game, and to add insult to injury, they can’t even get fire going to eat rice.

Corinne says that as long as Marcus, Charlie, and herself are intact, she doesn’t care who goes home. Well, then Jeff’s got bad news for her. She says he didn’t deserve to leave the game. On the other side of the coin, there’s Matty, grinning from ear to ear when he sees Marcus is toast.

Treemail’s a slingshot. That hardly looks merge related. The challenge is golf Survivor style (using slingshots). Corinne will sit out for Fang. Kota scores on the first hole. Fang ties it by scoring on the second hole. On the tiebreaking uphill hole, Fang scores again, thanks to Matty and no thanks to Randy’s control freakness, to win reward. In celebration of their win, Randy continues to argue with Matty that he didn’t do (the winning shot) right. Bob will be going to Exile, so at least it’s not Sugar for a change. Reward is a visit to a local tribe for a feast and dancing.

Matty tells his tribe he was stoked to see Marcus gone. Not that it matters because they aren’t going to accept him regardless. As for Corinne and Charlie, they’re still shocked by what happened, and not sure what to do next.

Despite the fact that we’ve seen others go to Exile 8 times already, Bob decides he’s got a prayer of finding the hidden idol and chooses that over comfort. He has no luck, but he makes himself a fairly convincing fake idol (at least it’s better than the stick with a face Ozzy made).

Randy’s hoping for merge so he can see Crystal and puke. At the immunity challenge, Jeff tells them they’ve merged. The first challenge for individual immunity is to make a fire high enough to burn through a rope. They’re given flint, steel, and fire making supplies. Susie is the first to get a flame. Matty cuts his hand but isn’t getting anywhere. Sugar gets fire. But it ultimately doesn’t matter because this is a complete blowout. Although Sugar’s competitive, Susie retains her lead to win immunity. Nobody else was even involved in this sad competition.

They’ll be returning to the jinxed Fang camp as one new tribe.

Randy’s voting for Crystal no matter what. So Charlie readily agrees to this. He’s comfortable that he’s got a solid foursome with Corinne, himself, Randy, and Bob (yeah, Bob’s part of their alliance again). They hope to swing Sugar. Upon approaching her, she says she can’t live with Randy any more. They assure her they’ll get rid of Randy next. Corinne has convinced herself that Sugar is on their side “because she’s such a moron.”

The other side wants to get rid of Charlie or Corinne. Corinne’s odious personality may be problematic for her, but Ken wants revenge on Charlie for costing him a hidden immunity idol (silly logic for voting someone out, but it’ll work I suppose). They agree to take out Charlie and leave the annoying chick in. They know they also need Sugar. Ken approaches her and tries to convince her Charlie’s the brains behind Kota. He also promises she can get rid of whoever she wants next. Only he actually would probably honor this agreement, whereas Corinne would stab her in the back.

Sugar’s issue is this: she doesn’t trust anybody. Ken’s already lied to her once, and Randy and Corinne are putzes.

Randy tells Jeff that the reason he was being a dumbass at the challenge is because Matty only would have made his shot 9 times out of 10, whereas his own personal shot was flawless. Then Crystal asks Randy why he hates her. He responds that her and GC made life hell at the beginning. Charlie suggests that both of them may consider processing what comes out of their mouths first. Randy believes that Ken’s grown up and is not the little kid he saw at the start.

By a vote of 5-4, Charlie has been voted off the island. I wonder who Kota will add to their ever changing final alliance this time.

The Biggest Loser Families Episode 9

Following black team’s horrible performance in The Biggest Loser Families Episode 8, the girls stuck together and voted out their only guy, Phil. These people are making it difficult to root for either team.

In a quite thoroughly revolting display, the blue team proves why everybody hates them. Vicky is absolutely thrilled that Phil is gone and can’t control her giggling. She’s glad he’s gone because he would be a horrible role model for America. And apparently she would be a good one.

Bob’s got a challenge for his team. Whoever runs the farthest for three minutes will win a banana fudge sundae. That’s a prize? Amy C manages to outrun the rest. There’s a catch. This is really a Jello/Cool Whip commercial in disguise.

Alison’s got an announcement. They’re no longer in teams. Vicky warns us we’ll have 4 blue standing in the finale. Scary thought. Then Alison asks them to follow her to the scale. In walks Phil. Vicky says she’ll need to see a psych doctor. Too easy.

Behind Phil are the other eliminated contestants, some of whom some people may actually remember. Jerry is not there with them, but only because he had to work. Only one of them will be returning, and it will be based on the challenge rather than weight loss. Still, they plan to see how the at home players have been doing.

Jerry: 339 pounds (-41, 10.78%)
Shellay: 177 pounds (-39, 18.05%)
Tom: 266 pounds (-48, 15.28%)
LT: 300 pounds (-57, 15.96%)
Adam: 305 pounds (-35, 10.29%)
Stacey: 190 pounds (-31, 14.02%)
Ed: 277 pounds (-58, 17.31%)
Amy P: 182 pounds (-47, 20.52%)
Phil: 263 pounds (-68 pounds, 20.54%)

So far the at home challenge is between Phil and his wife, the last two people eliminated. Shellay is also putting up some good numbers.

Vicky says in front of everyone that she’d like anybody to come back… except Phil. Does the term self control mean anything to her? Afterward, his wife’s crying because of the comments, so he confronts Vicky. She says he doesn’t deserve a spot in the game. Because he’s lost the most weight? She doesn’t believe she’s done anything wrong, Brady threatens him, and Heba begins her screeching. Then Stacey begins crying as well because the blue team is full of putzes. According to Heba, this chaos is all just Phil’s fault, and they wouldn’t be acting like asshats if he weren’t there.

In addition to getting back in the game, the winner of the challenge will have immunity at the weigh in. The challenge is steps. First to 1,000 wins. Tom’s not sure he can even finish. Stacey’s confident because she does step aerobics. Ed takes an early lead and is the first to 100. Phil’s on his heels, back by about 10 steps. At a couple hundred steps, Phil trips, which could cost him. Stacey passes LT to take third place, and she’s gaining fast. She than overtakes Phil. Ed looks like he’s tiring, while Stacey looks like she’s just getting started. Ed is first to 500. As they get into the 800s, Stacey’s about 10 steps behind. LT wants to see Stacey win and begins coaching her to give her that extra push. It’s a close race to the finish. As they get to the end, Ed gets his second wind and begins sprinting. Ed wins the challenge and returns to the game, giving team evil a big boost because now they’ve got two pairs of couples, along with fifth wheel Amy C, who probably should be realizing what a mess she’s going to be in if she doesn’t take matters into her own hands.

Ali from season 5 is back to visit the contestants. She’ll be taking them to Cynthia Sass of Prevention magazine to learn some nutrition tips. They also get $1,000 worth of groceries, and Michelle lands a spot on Prevention’s cover along with Ali.

The good news for the black team is that they had such a bad week last week. That’s about the only good news for them, as they don’t have a shot unless two blue go below, preferably not Amy C.

Ed: 273 pounds (-4)
Heba: 238 pounds (-9, 3.64%)
Coleen: 170 pounds (-7, 3.95%)
Amy: 181 pounds (-6, 3.21%)
Michelle: 194 pounds (-6, 3.00%)
Renee: 215 pounds (-7, 3.15%)
Vicky: 193 pounds (-8, 3.98%)
Brady: 264 pounds (-6, 2.22%)

This puts Brady and Michelle below the yellow line. Michelle’s only hope is that Amy realizes it’s a bad idea to be allied with two closely connected couples who will get rid of her as soon as they need to.

They won’t be given any time to decide. Instead, they will be be heading straight to the elimination room to talk about it there. Only they don’t really talk very much about it.

Votes
Vicky: Michelle
Renee: Brady
Coleen: Brady
Ed: Michelle
Heba: Michelle
Amy: Brady

Rather than voting along team lines, Amy follows the advice of her mother from earlier in the show to be careful because the others are there for themselves. Since it’s a tie vote, Brady will be going home because he had the lowest percentage of weight loss for the week. He is down from a size 48 pants to a size 34.

Based on the large amount of comments over on the Vicky post tonight, I’d imagine there are a lot of people breathing a sigh of relief over this move, at least those who are still watching, although obviously Vicky would have been a preferred boot over Brady. It ain’t over yet, though. Vicky hates Phil’s guts just because he was trying to get a member of the opposite team eliminated. No doubt she will go ballistic over a member of her team turning.

The Amazing Race 13 Episode 7

Ken & Tina faced communication difficulties with themselves and also with their cab drivers, which led them to be in last place in The Amazing race 13 Episode 6. They lucked out with a non-elimination leg, however, which means they are still in the race but will encounter a speed bump in the next leg.

Football just finished, so 60 Minutes will run almost an hour over (good thing KC didn’t go for overtime, or we’d be looking at another half an hour). A live blog will begin once 60 Minutes is over.

Teams depart in the order in which they arrived.

First: Nick & Starr – 8:55AM
Second: Kelly & Christy – 9:02AM
Third: Toni & Dallas – 9:10AM
Fourth: Terence & Sarah – 9:31AM
Fifth: Andrew & Dan – 9:44AM
Sixth: Ken & Tina – 9:51AM

Nick & Starr are willing to continue to tell little white lies if it will help them stay at the top of the pack. Toni has learned to trust Dallas more than she ever had to before. Terence & Sarah need to get past yelling at each other. Kelly & Christy still think they’re above everybody.

The first stop is back through the congested streets at the Deshbandhu Apartments. They arrive to complete chaos. The road block is to take part in a traditional Indian celebration known as the Holy Festival. The racers must make their way through a crowd pelting them with dye and water to get to a ladder, which they must climb and then search through hundreds of envelopes to find one that’s correct. Even when they climb the ladders, the crowd will continue to pelt them with paint, making the searching task that much harder.

Road block (in order of arrival): Starr, Dallas, Kelly, Terence, Dan, Ken

Starr gets through the road block without much issue. Dallas also makes quick work of it. Kelly seems to have arrived to a somewhat more aggressive crowd, which allows for some drama, and she’s not helped any by the fact that she keeps pulling “Try Again” envelopes and has to keep going back. Terence, who made up a lot of time on Kelly & Christy during the cab drive, manages to finish ahead of them (but not without saving some drama for Sarah when they get in the cab). Dan & Andrew are also there and also finish ahead of Kelly, who tells Christy she can’t do it because she’ll die (if she’d stop going back and forth and just get a correct envelope, it may work a little faster). They finally read the clue and realize she just has to get the marked one to proceed. Ken & Tina are just arriving as Kelly & Christy are leaving and looking for a cab since they didn’t keep theirs.

From there, teams will go to Old Delhi to find the Charity Birds Hospital, a haven for injured birds. They have to search through the cages to find their next clue. Upon arrival at the hospital, Ken & Tina must complete their speed bump, which is to go to a temple and serve holy water until no more worshippers are desiring water.

The detour is a choice between bleary eyed or teary eyed. In bleary eyed, teams will help the department of power by keeping track of numbers on power lines. In teary eyed, they must carry two 40 pound bags of dried chilis and deliver them on foot 1/4 mile away, then make chili powder to fill a container.

Bleary eyed: Nick & Starr, Toni & Dallas, Andrew & Dan, Kelly & Christy, Ken & Tina
Teary eyed: Terence & Sarah

After pretending they don’t know what’s going on, Nick & Starr eventually decide to split the detour in half with Toni & Dallas to speed up both teams. They finish their first time through. Andrew & Dan have no clue what they’re doing as usual. Terence & Sarah, who believed they’d take the brawn over brains task (which normally works out okay) are suffering from making the chili powder. The good thing about their task is that, while it may be painful, it’s at least clearcut where the end goal is. Like Andrew & Dan, Kelly & Christy have no clue what they’re doing. Dan & Andrew want to work with them, but they decline. Ken & Tina are actually looking at the correct numbers unlike the other two teams, who are looking at random signs on the street. This leaves the race for last between the two clueless teams. Now on foot instead of cruising past in their autorickshaw, Kelly & Christy finally spot the tags they’re supposed to be looking for. Ken & Tina tell Andrew & Dan what they’re supposed to be looking for, which means each of the two remaining teams has finally figured out what they’re doing there.

The pit stop for this leg of the race is Humayun’s Tomb.

First: Nick & Starr (win a trip to Hawaii)
Second: Toni & Dallas
Third: Terence & Sarah
Fourth: Ken & Tina
Fifth: Andrew & Dan
Eliminated: Kelly & Christy

Can’t say I’m sorry to see Kelly & Christy go, but they go out on an upbeat note. For future reference, the producers may want to consider literacy as a qualification for the show so they don’t get people who can’t read their clues time and time again. As for Andrew & Dan, they’ve managed to limp their way through one more week.

Stay tuned to dingoRUE for another live recap of The Amazing Race 13 Episode 8 I’m Like an Angry Cow, which airs Sunday at 8/7cish on CBS.

The Amazing Race Asia 3 Episode 9

After listening to Vince & Sam’s bad flight path, Henry & Bernie lagged behind the rest of the teams and were eliminated in The Amazing Race Asia 3 Episode 8.

Teams depart in the order in which they arrived.

First: Geoff & Tisha – 9:41PM
Second: AD & Fuzzie – 9:50PM
Third: Ida & Tania – 10:11PM
Fourth: Vince & Sam – 10:15PM

Teams must make their way to Pune, India, 120km away from Mumbai. Despite the way it appeared last time, the last two teams actually weren’t that far behind, and all teams are on the same flight back to Mumbai. The teams get taxis to their next destination in Pune. Geoff says that he can be very annoying in the morning, which he hopes will give his driver the motivation to want to get rid of him as quickly as possible. None of the drivers seem to have any idea where they’re going, but they hope the stadium is famous enough that they’ll be able to overcome this problem.

Ida & Tania have the best luck and arrive at the stadium first where they’ll need to play cricket. They are unable to complete the task in 36 swings and must wait 10 minutes before receiving their clue. Geoff & Tisha and Vince & Sam, who have been going together since the taxi counter, are both dropped off at the wrong clue box, so they’ll need to get another taxi and go back (at least they know exactly where they’re going next). They are still the second and third teams to arrive at the stadium, with about 7 minutes left on Ida & Tania’s clock, which runs out before either team is finished. Softball player Vince is able to finish the task. AD & Fuzzie are the last team to arrive, just as Geoff & Tisha are meeting the same fate as the moms and having to wait for 10 minutes before receiving their clue. Strangely, AD manages to complete this sports task, which leaves Geoff & Tisha in last by about 2 minutes.

In need of a sponsorship opportunity, the next destination will be reached by using the maps application on their Nokia phones. Vince & Sam and Geoff & Tisha already know where they’re going since it’s back where they were before. Despite this, Geoff & Tisha go in a circle and end up back at the stadium again. Then their phone keeps telling them to turn left, which is eventually a circle if you do it long enough.

The road block is to search the phetas of 50 men who will be wandering the grounds. Seems simple enough.

Road block (in order of arrival): Ida, Vince, Fuzzie, Tisha

From there, teams head to the Sony World showroom in Aundh, where they must convince a local on the street to tell a joke (in English) to be recorded on their Sony Handycams. Speaking of sponsorship opportunities, when do we stop at a Caltex? Simply finding someone to tell a joke in English is not enough. They must get it approved as being funny by a panel of judges. Somehow they approve a joke about an ant’s underwear and an elephant, so I’m not sure how picky they are.

The detour is a choice between push or crush. In push, teams will load a cart with at least 75 clay pots and deliver at least 70 unbroken to a market 1km away (in traffic). In crush, teams will crush enough sugarcane sticks to produce at least 40 glasses of sugarcane juice, which they must sell to earn a minimum of 200 rupees. The physical task seems a lot wiser than having to sell 40 glasses of juice, although there is a pretty massive crowd in the area. The sugarcane task turns out to be somewhat physical as well, which wipes out AD & Fuzzie, giving Geoff & Tisha new hope, as they’re now neck and neck going for last.

Push: Ida & Tania,
Crush: Vince & Sam, AD & Fuzzie, Geoff & Tisha

Teams are warned there’s a U-turn ahead. Sam wants to U-turn Ida & Tania, but Vince doesn’t want to U-turn anyone and thinks they’re in second anyway, so they decide against it. Ida & Tania, however, have decided to use it to U-turn Geoff & Tisha, but they can’t since they forgot to bring their own picture with them. Geoff & Tisha, shocked that nobody’s U-turned them, take advantage of the slight lead they’ve opened up over AD & Fuzzie and U-turn them. An already exhausted AD & Fuzzie must now go back and complete the pottery task.

The pit stop for this leg of the race is the Gokhale Institute. A U-turn right directly before a pit stop? What a stupid idea, but at least it’s pretty obvious this is a non-elimination leg.

First: Vince & Sam (win N96 Nokia phones)
Second: Ida & Tania
Third: Geoff & Tisha
Non-eliminated: AD & Fuzzie

As expected, AD & Fuzzie have been non-eliminated, which means they must come in first next time or receive a 30 minute penalty.

Survivor: Gabon Episode 8

Two people were voted out in Survivor: Gabon Episode 7 because, well, I’m not real sure why. Anyway, following the prior week in which he was in complete control of his tribe, Ace got the boot, an indication he overplayed his hand. This made his already jokeworthy tribe a bigger joke than it previously had been. Then, Kota followed by also voting out one of its stronger members, Dan, apparently because the core alliance felt threatened by him, though they never said that in so many words.

The Kota 6 try to make an alliance to the end. Until Corinne and Marcus get bitter about Susie and let her know she’s not really with them, so she may as well just flip and make it 5-5.

Because Ken told her some ridiculous lies that she should have seen right through, Sugar has decided she trusts Ken a lot more than she trusts Ace. Matty, the lone vote to keep Ace, is just hoping for a merge.

Corinne says she’s highly annoyed with Susie. As if we needed to hear it again to notice. She also says she’s an extremely vindictive person. Here’s hoping the looks last because the personality is not exactly resembling that of someone with a full deck.

Tribes get treemail that makes them think it’s time to merge, which historically does happen at 10. When they arrive at the feast, they see a box that tells them not to open it until everybody’s done eating.

While they’re eating, they see a clue to a hidden immunity idol. Oh no. Another one? Not this again. Remember when Survivor was just a group of strangers competing for one and only one idol? Everyone agrees that they don’t need an idol, and they decide to set it free in the ocean. Randy finds the idol and puts it on the table, saying that whoever wants it can have it. They eventually go with the original plan of just throwing it in the ocean. Yeah, they’ll probably just bury half a dozen more of them anyway.

Then it’s time to open the box. Each tribe member grabs a stone. It’s a(nother) tribal shuffle. They have just divided themselves into two new tribes. Odd numbers are Fang; even numbers are Kota. Expect the unexpected. At least nobody stuck their foot in their mouth while at the beach, although it’s safe to say some people did so previously.

New new Kota: Bob, Marcus, Susie, Crystal, Ken
New new Fang: Randy, Charlie, Corinne, Matty, Sugar

Old new Kota is up 3-2 in both of the new tribes, but Susie could easily take Marcus out of there, which would be a huge pre-merge move.

It turns out that Crystal is the cousin of one of Marcus’ best friends. Great, preexisting relationships with the potential to influence the game. It’s like Big Brother.

The plan on Fang is to get rid of Matty, who already knows that Randy can’t be trusted. Thanks to Matty, Sugar has realized sooner than I would have expected that Crystal and Ken duped her. Matty asks her to make sure they keep each other informed if they hear the other’s going home. If they stick with this plan, they could use the idol successfully, as the plan of the other three is to tell each one they’re going to be voted out.

Corinne makes it clear she has no intention of accepting the new Fang tribe.

Immunity is an endurance challenge. The first tribe to lose all their members goes to tribal council. Survivors will stand with their arms out supporting poles. After 1 second, Crystal is out (surely this is a new record). Sugar drops after 10 seconds. Susie drops next. Randy and Corinne follow. Ken is out next. Marcus is next, leaving Bob to defend Kota. Charlie is out, which leaves Matty to face off against Bob. Matty’s cockiness nearly costs him, but he holds on to win the challenge for Fang (a seemingly cursed tribe that’s lost half a dozen times in a row).

I’d rather see the drama of Matty and Sugar using the hidden idol effectively, but seeing whether Susie’s stupid enough to trust Marcus should be good as well.

Marcus wants to see Ken go home, and he tells Crystal that he’d rather have her in the Kota 6 than Susie. She’s not happy that he wants to take out her number one ally with this plan, while he gets to keep all his allies. Then Marcus sweet talks Susie into believing he wants to take her to the final three. Ken and Crystal know they also need Susie on their side, so Crystal tells her that she needs to join them or finish sixth.

Bob says he regrets his last vote, as they got rid of a strong team member believing a merge was around the corner. Both Dan and Ace would have performed well in the last challenge, although since tribe selection was dumb luck, there’s no guarantee which side they would have ended up on.

By a vote of 3-2, Marcus has been voted off the island and is the first member of the jury. While Susie’s place in the game may still be uncertain, this was her only logical move, as her alleged allies made it blatantly obvious they were going to turn on her. Unbeknownst to her, this puts her right smack in the middle of five people who at some point will be going after each other, once they get rid of the other side presumably, a power position that makes her the safest person there at this time.

Stay tuned to dingoRUE for another live recap of Survivor: Gabon episode 9 The Brains Behind Everything, which airs Thursday at 8/7c on CBS.

The Amazing Race Asia 3 Episode 8

Ida & Tania once again arrived in last in The Amazing Race 3 Episode 7, to be greeted by another non-elimination leg.

Teams depart in the order in which they arrived.

First: Geoff & Tisha – 4:04AM
Second: Vince & Sam – 4:14AM
Third: AD & Fuzzie – 5:40AM
Fourth: Henry & Bernie – 6:04AM
Fifth: Ida & Tania – 8:13AM

The first stop of this leg is the ruins of St. Paul, which is now a World Heritage site. From there, they will head back to Macau Tower, where they hit an 8AM hours of operation, which bunches up the first four teams. They know they’re up for something extreme at the Macau Tower. Ida & Tania appear to be about an hour behind still, and they’ll get a penalty if they’re not first at the end of the leg.

The road block is to bungee jump off the tower at 320m. Bernie very reluctantly agrees since Henry doesn’t want to do it either. Tisha knew before they even got there that it would be an extreme stunt but volunteers anyway.

Road block: Tisha, Sam, AD, Bernie, Tania

As the first team to complete the challenge (apparently reading the clue 10 seconds before anybody else counts for something), Geoff & Tisha get a helicopter to Hong Kong. The other teams will travel there by ferry.

Helicopter: Geoff & Tisha
First ferry (9:30): Vince & Sam, AD & Fuzzie, Henry & Bernie
Second ferry (10:15): Ida & Tania

When they arrive in Hong Kong, they search through boxes to find letters from home (a seemingly simple task, though you wouldn’t know it based on Henry & Bernie’s arguing), and once they’re done reading, they’re told to go to Cochin, India. An airport is the break Ida & Tania needed, but they still have to hope for another team to stumble.

First flight (late morning via Singapore): Geoff & Tisha
Second flight (via Mumbai): Ida & Tania, AD & Fuzzie
Third flight (via Singapore connecting in Mumbai): Vince & Sam, Henry & Bernie

Henry & Bernie and Vince & Sam miss their connecting flight but are still able to get another flight from Mumbai to Cochin at the domestic terminal. This is enough of a delay to put them behind the others, though, particularly as they had a lengthy and poorly planned initial flight path to begin with.

Upon arriving in India, teams will receive a good luck blessing. Too bad the priest won’t be there until 6AM. Geoff & Tisha particularly get hit here, having arrived around 10:30, but Ida & Tania and AD & Fuzzie only have about 2 hours to kill.

The next stop is the elephant washing grounds in Kumbalam, where they must wash an elephant using the traditional method (apparently there’s more than one way to wash an elephant). Geoff & Tisha are back in the lead, as the others are waiting for their cabs. That lead is short lived, though, as Ida & Tania somehow take the lead, apparently through a better driver.

The detour is a choice between fish or fill. In fish, teams must deliver six fish each weighing 20kg. In fill, teams must complete a geometric design using colored rice. Physical task versus mental task, typically the physical is better.

Fill: Ida & Tania, AD & Fuzzie, Henry & Bernie
Fish: Geoff & Tisha, Vince & Sam

The pit stop for this leg of the race is the Bolgatty Palace, one of the oldest Dutch palaces outside of Holland.

First: Geoff & Tisha (win a trip to Hong Kong, tickets to a tennis tournament final, and $1,000 to spend)
Second: AD & Fuzzie
Third: Ida & Tania (finished second before the penalty)
Fourth: Vince & Sam
Eliminated: Henry & Bernie

Henry & Bernie ran a pretty good race, but following Vince & Sam on a bad flight was ultimately their undoing (taking the mental task over the physical task didn’t help them any). Ida & Tania recovered quite nicely following a couple legs way at the back of the pack and showed some strength this time around.

Stay tuned to dingoRUE for another recap of The Amazing Race Asia 3 episode 9, and don’t forget the live blogs of The Amazing Race 13.

DeAnna and Jesse Break Up

As desperate as they seemed to get married just for the sake of getting married following The Bachelorette 4, I was expecting this one to stick until their rushed wedding was over. In an interview with Extra, Jesse Csincsak revealed that DeAnna Pappas broke up with him.

He told the show, “We took time apart… She came back to Colorado and told me, ‘I love you, but I’m not in love with you.’ …I picked her up from the airport and she told me while I was getting her bags.”

“I love that woman. She is an amazing person. I am willing to work through it. I love her… I love the way she made me feel. She made me feel like no other,” he continued. “DeAnna said, ‘I’m not willing to try anymore.’ She had a different idea. I can’t argue with her feelings… She’s the only one who knows how she feels.”

He wonders if the relationship was just an attempt to get publicity. “The only time she was touchy feely with me was around the cameras.”

Still, he wishes he had a second chance like runner up Jason Mesnick. “I really envy Jason’s position right now… It’s an amazing show… You could go and fall in love. I would love the opportunity to fall in love again.”

The Amazing Race 13 Episode 6

Aja & Ty managed to get out of their funk and put on happy faces in The Amazing Race 13 Episode 5, but it wasn’t enough to prevent their elimination in one of the more predictable episodes of the season.

Teams depart in the order in which they arrived, except for Terence & Sarah who received a half hour penalty for speeding.

First: Nick & Starr – 11:22PM
Second: Toni & Dallas – 11:34PM
Third: Ken & Tina – 11:53PM
Fourth: Kelly & Christy – 11:59PM
Fifth: Terence & Sarah – 12:05AM
Sixth: Andrew & Dan – 12:29AM

Dallas wants to hook up with Starr, but he’s not catching any breaks with his mom and Starr’s brother around all the time. Ken & Tina say they’re still struggling with each other. Kelly & Christy think they’re quick learners. I’m going to have to take them by their word.

Teams will be flying to Delhi, India. Historically, the India leg has been a difficult one for some teams. With all teams leaving around midnight, the airport will serve to bunch them all together.

Nick tries to give Kelly & Christy some advice to cover up a little. We’ve seen in the past where female teams get grabbed on trains, but the girls aren’t particularly concerned. Andrew & Dan say Cambodia was like child’s play by comparison. Most teams don’t seem to have found cab drivers who know where they’re going, and arriving in rush hour probably hasn’t helped any.

The road block for this leg of the race is to paint autorickshaws green to signal they run on natural gas. Backseat painters Terence and Tina aren’t helping their partners any. The other teams get how to be helpful without smothering their partners, rather than being critical and getting in the way.

Road block (in order of arrival): Starr, Andrew, Toni, Kelly, Sarah, Ken

The next stop is the Ambassador Hotel, which means another trip back through the crowded streets of New Delhi. Ken & Tina were the only ones who had their cab driver wait for them, although he did get them really lost last time. Everybody else needs to figure out where to get another cab. I’m not surprised that Ken & Tina have gotten lost again and are again in last place.

The detour is a choice between launder money or launder clothes. In launder money, teams create a wedding necklace out of 10 individual notes that add up to exactly 780 rupees. Teams will need to exchange their own cash for the right combination of bills. In launder clothes, teams will use a charcoal heated iron to press 20 pieces of clothing. The irons are very hot and present some trouble, but Nick & Starr were smart enough to bring their gloves (didn’t anyone else plan for a cold climate?).

Launder clothes: Nick & Starr, Toni & Dallas, Andrew & Dan, Kelly & Christy
Launder money: Terence & Sarah, Ken & Tina

The pit stop for this leg of the race is Baha’i House, the national headquarters for the Baha’i faith.

First: Nick & Starr (win electric cars)
Second: Kelly & Christy
Third: Toni & Dallas
Fourth: Terence & Sarah
Fifth: Andrew & Dan
Non-eliminated: Ken & Tina

Andrew & Dan gave them plenty of opportunities with their horrible ironing skills (what do you expect from frat boys?), but Ken & Tina’s combination of not working together well and having horrible luck with cabs did them in. The good news for Ken & Tina is that this was a non-elimination leg, though they will encounter a speed bump next week.
