American Idol Season 9 Episode 40

Michael Lynche was sent home in American Idol Season 9 Episode 39. Tonight the top 3 perform.

Casey James
Song: OK, It’s Alright with Me by Eric Hutchinson
Randy: Kinda just alright with me, too.
Ellen: Wish you would have brought it. It was alright.
Kara: That song that not a lot of people knew did not work in your favor.
Simon: If you were having dinner, that’s the salad. Dud song choice.

Crystal Bowersox
Song: Come to My Window by Melissa Etheridge
Randy: Did not love the arrangement but did like your vocal on that.
Ellen: Melissa would be very proud of you.
Kara: Got a little lost in the arrangement.
Simon: Not the best version, but you haven’t compromised yourself.

Lee DeWyze
Song: Simple Man by Lynyrd Skynyrd
Randy: Could see you making a record like that. Somebody’s feeling like they can win this.
Ellen: You took this thing seriously.
Kara: Showed us everything you’ve got. Round 1 goes to Lee.
Simon: Absolutely on the money. Crushed the other two.

Casey James
Song: Daughters by John Mayer (selected by Randy and Kara)
Randy: Fit you like a glove.
Ellen: Beautiful. A lot of daughters and mothers and sons voting for you.
Kara: Showed the artistic side of you.
Simon: Much better song choice than the first. A bit of a lazy arrangement. Needed a much bigger vocal moment.

Crystal Bowersox
Song: Maybe I’m Amazed by Paul McCartney (selected by Ellen), complete with lyrics like “Maybe I’m a man”
Randy: Great song, great vocals. Somebody else in it to win it.
Ellen: Couldn’t have asked for more.
Kara: Showed parts of your voice I don’t think we’ve heard until tonight.
Simon: You’ve got soul. May be thanking Ellen next week for putting you in the final.

Lee DeWyze
Song: Hallelujah by Jeff Buckley
Randy: Been waiting all season to see who’s going to throw down the real gauntlet. Biggest moment at the biggest time.
Ellen: Stunning.
Kara: What this show is all about. Incredible epic moment. Owned the entire night.
Simon: Very proud. Fantastic singer, great person.

The Biggest Loser Season 9 Episode 18

Falling below the red line in The Biggest Loser Season 9 Episode 17, Sunshine was eliminated.

Allison sends everybody home. She looks forward to seeing them in 30 days.

Everybody will be doing another marathon. The bikes are gone. They will be doing this on foot. The winner will be able to give $10,000 to the charity of their choice. Ashley and Michael have decided to run the marathon together.

Curtis Stone may have been eliminated from The Celebrity Apprentice (and was off the show for like 5 minutes), but he’s back on The Biggest Loser to visit Daris, who won him after losing the most weight last week. He’s adding four items to the menu of Daris’ favorite restaurant so that he can go out and hang out with his friends.

It’s almost 1AM, and what’s Daris doing? Eating due to stress. And eating and eating some more. Hopefully you don’t fall off that wagon too many times, dude.

Koli’s in Vegas, where he’s training with his friend at a mixed martial arts facility. All he’s doing is working out and sleeping. His focus is winning the show. It’s too crazy at home. So what’s he going to do when he has to leave for good?

Jillian’s in a helicopter trying to find Daris. There’s not an airport for miles.

Bob hopes he can convince Michael’s little sister Rosangela to get on the program and start dropping some weight like her brother has.

When it’s time to run that marathon, there’s some good news. It’s raining. That oughta make it just a little bit more fun. Doesn’t look like the rain will last long, and I doubt Koli will remain freezing either. Daris heads into the lead right away. Koli’s running in second. They can’t see Mike or Ashley behind them. At mile 13, Daris runs into Matt, the winner from season 2, who’s in kinda sorta okay shape. Also at the halfway point, Koli meets Sione, who along with Filipe inspired Koli to be on the show. At mile 11, Mike and Ashley are greeted by season 5 winner Ali, who looks great as always. Then they meet Mike from season 7. Daris has two goals: beat Tara’s record of 4 hours and 55 minutes, and furthermore get down to around 4 hours. For the last mile, he’s joined by his sister, briefly. He takes off and leaves her behind. In a time of 4:02:12, Daris finishes the marathon first. Koli is greeted at mile 25 by his sister. He finishes the race second at 6:08:09. Mike and Ashley are still together at mile marker 25, where her brother and his sister and waiting. They cross the finish line at 6:26:18.

Now there’s just one thing left to do. That’s the final weigh-in. The two people above the yellow line will be in the finals, while the other two will depend on America’s vote.

Michael: 299 pounds (-23, 7.14%)
Koli: 218 pounds (-13, 5.63%)
Ashley: 213 pounds (-18, 7.79%)
Daris: 197 (+2, 1.03%)

Ouch. Daris gained 2 pounds while at home for a month. He claims it’s because he concentrated more on training for a marathon. Bob doesn’t get this logic. You don’t gain weight by running a lot. It’s obvious that his diet is just not up to snuff. In addition to Daris, Koli has fallen below the yellow line, leaving their fates up to America. I’d have bet on Daris before these results, but he may have just cost himself a finale appearance. Ashley and Michael are definitely going to be in the final three.

The Celebrity Apprentice 3 Episode 10

Having been the target of the mean girls duo for months, Cyndi Lauper finally met her demise in The Celebrity Apprentice 3 Episode 9.

Everybody’s partying and/or stripping, but the night’s not over for them. Trump invites everybody back to the boardroom.

One person will be fired right now. The remaining four will be interviewed by Bill Rancic (the first and one of the best winners) and Joan Rivers (the last and one of the most rigged winners), after which two more people will be fired.

Holly says the weakest player is Maria because she comes from the least pure place sometimes. After being pushed by Jr., Sharon agrees that Maria is the weakest, whereas Holly’s tough because of what she’s been through as a mother with an autistic child. Curtis is another vote for Maria as the weakest player because she plays the game by hitting below the belt.

Maria says that the reason why she said she didn’t like Curtis was because he went into their bathroom and used it and left the stench behind. A grossed out Trump responds by firing Maria. This is his boardroom, not a locker room. She finds this reasoning laughable, but it’s not as if she was going to escape the piling on of everybody saying she’s the weakest.

Bill questions why Curtis has only been project manager once, which raises a red flag. But he’s good at building his brand. Curtis felt Bret got sidetracked a lot but shined with creative tasks. Maria won’t be on his Christmas card list. Bill and Joan both found Curtis to be a one trick pony.

Joan thinks Sharon wants this more than anything she’s ever wanted, but Bill thinks she’s out of gas. If she can handle two years fighting cancer, she can handle this, although she hasn’t been able to pull her weight. She wants to pay it forward by giving attention to colon cancer, but she’s struggling with the notion of beating Holly, who’s doing this for her child.

Bill sees some fire in Bret’s belly and likes that he owned up to making mistakes. He acknowledges that he lives on musician and/or rock star time. His goal is to win because he deserves it, not because he throws somebody else under the bus. Joan considers him very creative but doesn’t see the fire.

Holly’s going to have to go back home and still live with autism, so it won’t be over once she leaves. Bill considers her two losses as project manager to be a big problem, despite her huge win on that one task.

Joan would like to see Sharon up against Holly. Bill points out that Bret and his child are both affected by diabetes, so he’ll give just as good a fight.

Sharon can only say she needs it badly for her charity, and that’s why Trump should keep her.

Bret thinks he brings a lot to the table, from his creativity to being a hard worker. Also, he’s fighting for a cause for a disease he’s lived with his whole life.

Holly wants to be kept around for her passion.

Curtis thinks he’s the best leader.

Based on the input from Joan and Bill, Curtis is fired.

Holly would fire Bret because Sharon’s passion is really coming out. Bret would fire Holly, but his reasoning is interrupted by Sharon’s crying. Sharon does not have an answer who should be fired.

With concerns about whether she can hang in there given her emotional state, Trump fires Sharon.

Holly and Bret meet with Trump for instructions on their final task. They will be working with Snapple to create a new flavor, extend their advertising campaign with a new television commercial and print advertisement, and launch their product at an event filled with employees, distributors, and Snapple tea fans. They will be judged on originality, creativity, incorporating their charity’s mission and message, and maintaining the essence of the Snapple brand. This new product will be sold across the country, and the winner will receive $250,000 for their charity. Unusual for there to be a no fundraising task at the finals.

Bret’s team is Summer Sanders and Darryl Strawberry.

Holly’s team is Maria Kanellis and Curtis Stone. Maria apologizes for not being Summer.

Maria tries to be helpful, pitching ideas about the logo. Holly doesn’t want to hear it. Tomorrow’s the creative stuff. Today is about the tea. Or else.

As a diabetic, Bret doesn’t want the regular drink. He’ll go for the Diet Snapple.

Holly realizes during the taste test she got lucky with Curtis, who will use his kitchen skills to help come up with the flavor.

Because they have to have totally different flavors, they will need to negotiate for them right down the middle. Both teams have decided on passion fruit as their main ingredient. Bret and Curtis will be doing the negotiations.

Bret’s negotiation style is to tell Curtis everything he wants and then go from there. Hearing this, Curtis pretends he wanted all those same things, too. The net result is that Bret agrees to give up passion fruit. For that matter, Curtis got everything else on Holly’s list, too. As he’s walking out, Curtis calls Bret a sucker.

Darryl heads off to do a taste test of their two drinks. The other team heads out with one drink, with and without basil, so all their eggs are pretty much in one basket.

Bret’s pear, plum, nutmeg bombs. It’s a good thing they had a second choice. The tropical vanilla cinnamon fares much better. The problem is that, although they had a second choice, the whole creative is around the pear plum nutty, so they’re going to have to flip it around.

Curtis calls the girl’s cell phone from the prop house. He don’t need to wait for no stinkin business hours to line this up. If he e-mails her, she’ll be all ready for the morning when they open.

Bret wants to have a funny ad, but is not sure how you shoot a diabetes ad that’s funny. With that in mind, his idea is to double their workload and shoot two ads, one funny and one serious.

Summer views getting Bret to focus as a full time job.

Holly feels so bad about getting rid of the actors she doesn’t want, so she makes Curtis do the firing.

No matter what, Bret wants to make sure he gets hot chicks in his commercial. This is going to make him even more distracted.

Curtis takes it upon himself to work on the set, and he has had every chef in the country send him whatever passion fruits they could get their hands on since it’s out of season. While Holly’s worrying about the commercial, he will take on the still shoots. For a one trick pony, he sure seems to be doing an awful lot.

Bret has a vision in his head. He needs a dolly track. He’s going to spend as much time as he needs tracking one down. The whole commercial will be on hold until he gets one.

Survivor: Heroes Vs. Villains Winner

Rupert’s elimination in Survivor: Heroes Vs. Villains Episode 13 has brought us down to the final five: Parvati Shallow, Russell Hantz, Jerri Manthey, Sandra Diaz, and Colby Donaldson. By the end of the night, one of them will be the Survivor: Heroes Vs. Villains winner. Hopefully, we’ve got a two time winner in store.

Parvati came off as just a flirt her first time out in Cook Islands, but she became the mastermind of the awesome black widow alliance in Micronesia. Despite that fact that everybody on both islands deemed her the most dangerous player who needed to be eliminated, she stuck around and proved to be a dominant force once again.

Russell did the same thing he did last time, latching on to the women all the while making ridiculous and silly moves just to prove he could, getting people to listen to him when it made little to no sense to do so. Russell’s flaw is the same as it was last time: everybody hates him and won’t vote for him should he make it to the end. Unlike last season when it was a great big joke that he didn’t win due to the most bitter jury in history, this season he’s actually got real competition that deserves to beat him.

Speaking of Russell, from there we move on to Jerri. She voted along with him on more than one occasion when nobody could figure out why. This blind following of Russell demonstrated her own weakness, and left me confused what the heck her strategy is supposed to be.

Sandra was another early target but showed why she won in Pearl Islands. Her philosophy is simple: it doesn’t matter who goes home, as long as it’s not her.

Then we have the lone remaining hero, Colby. What happened to Superman? Colby’s been weak in challenges and even weaker in strategy, but nonetheless he is the only chance the Heroes have for pulling out a win.

Russell says that Sandra playing the idol rather than keeping it in her bra was a stupid move. While she didn’t need it, it would have been stupid if she’d gone home because she didn’t play it. Seems he’s mostly upset that she didn’t tell him that she had the idol, not that he told her about his idols. In addition, Parvati’s a liar because she didn’t tell him about the idol that she had no idea about. This is all good for Colby. At least Russell’s not targeting him, not at this minute anyway.

Russell says that Colby’s gotta go, but if Colby wins immunity, it’s time to set his sights on the biggest threat, Parvati.

For the challenge, they will balance ceramic dishes on a long wobbly balancing arm. They add a large plate, a large bowl, another large plate, and then some more dishes. They’re stacked 9 dishes high, and there’s some wobbling going on. At least Colby’s not the first one out. That would be Sandra. Jerri’s been wobbling for a while, and she is finally out at 14 dishes. The 16th dish takes out Russell. That brings us down to Parvati and Colby, perhaps the two people who need it most. The 17th dish takes out Colby. Parvati wins immunity.

Colby’s the easy target here. He’s the only person not from the Villains tribe, and he doesn’t have any enemies on the jury because he really hasn’t done anything. He asks for them to just enjoy day 37, and he’s not planning on scrambling. With that surrender speech out of the way, 30 minutes later, he makes one more attempt. He approaches Russell to see if they can team up with Jerri to get rid of Sandra, a move that would seem to weaken Parvati, the person everybody still is the most afraid of.

With 4 votes, Colby has been voted off the island. Whoever wins, it will be on one of the Villains. Following their implosion midseason when they got rid of Boston Rob, things looked rocky, but the Villains have for the most part dominated the season.

Colby sure called Parvati out at tribal council. Jerri and Russell return to talking about how they have to get rid of her once they get back to camp.

Following the walk down memory lane, it’s the final immunity challenge. It’s a Survivor maze. They will each be blindfolded and will have to use their fingers to read the symbols to collect four necklaces. Russell grabs the first necklace, followed by Jerri and then Parvati. Sandra finally gets her first necklace after wandering around for a while. Russell has his second necklace and a good lead. Parvati has her second necklace, and so does Jerri. Jerri has taken the lead with her third necklace. Parvati has her third necklace. Sandra manages to get her second necklace. Russell seems to have dropped back but has grabbed his third necklace. Banging into each other, Parvati and Russell grab their fourth necklaces. As they make their way back to the center, Jerri has her fourth necklace. First one back wins. In a nailbiter, Russell wins immunity, beating the other two by seconds.

Jerri’s quite excited by the prospect of a Parvati elimination.

Russell says he’s keeping Sandra no matter what. His theory is she can’t get any votes, except maybe Courtney’s. Parvati views things differently. If Sandra’s up against them, she instantly gets Amanda, Candice, and Courtney.

He thinks he’s got this won no matter what but tells Parvati that his best move is to be up against Jerri and Sandra. However, if he gets rid of Jerri, he’s still got her vote, whereas he may not get Parvati’s vote.

Parvati sticks her foot in her mouth at tribal council. She’s been protecting Russell, or at least they’ve been protecting each other. Not a good thing to say to the guy who’s desperate to be in control of everything.

Jerri

I wouldn’t want to be sitting up there against Parvati and Sandra if I were Russell, but with 3 votes, Jerri has been voted off the island. That said, this jury is presumably less likely to be as bitter as Russell’s last jury. He’s made some stupid, aggressive moves, but there’s no denying he’s controlled a lot of the game.

This final three consists of 3 of the 4 people to have made it to the end twice (the other being Amanda).

Russell says that this time his strategy has changed. He’s brought two people he believes the jury does not like.

Sandra has decided to burn Russell’s hat. A taste of his own medicine.

Sandra’s case is that she’s done this without an alliance and without immunity.

Russell says that he played hard. He apologizes if he’s done anything to offend anyone, but he played the game.

Parvati didn’t slay Russell the dragon. Instead, she kept him as her pet. She played the ultimate strategic, physical, and social game, despite being labelled a threat by everybody.

Colby asks Russell if he just said there was no luck involved in getting him there. Russell says he was strategic, to which Colby responds that Russell is delusional if he really thinks that. Luck is not controlling the game like Russell did. Luck is getting as far as Colby got in spite of himself. His question to Parvati is what strategic moves she made. She was the target, from day 1, but survived by fighting harder than anyone. One example of her strategic play is the awesome two idol move, which was risky but very smart move she made on her own.

Coach calls Parvati the charmer and manipulator, Russell the schemer, and Sandra the coattail rider. He respects that Parvati was a warrior in challenges, although the irony is that the day he trusted her, she turned on him.

Amanda asks Sandra how her strategy was better. She wishes it was better because she wanted to get rid of Russell, but none of the Heroes would budge, stupidly running back to Russell to report her disloyalty to him instead.

Courtney is very proud of Parvati and Sandra. Parvati was athletic, while Sandra was loyal.

JT asks whether Russell has done well with retaining the jury’s votes. He believes that everybody on the jury respects the game and, in turn, his gameplay. As for Parvati, she was a huge threat, whereas Sandra was a sleeper. Sandra wishes she could have intercepted the idol and given it right back to JT.

Danielle accuses Russell of lack of skill in his jury management, but he does not regret anything. If he didn’t play how he did, he wouldn’t have made it as far as he did. She’s desperate for him to admit he played wrong, no surprise seeing as he screwed her over, but that ain’t happening.

Jerri wants to know why Russell did not get rid of Parvati. His defense is that Jerri did not have any enemies on the jury, and she would have won. Parvati chimes in: Russell got rid of Jerri because he knew he was getting her vote if she were on the jury.

Candice tells Russell he told lies he didn’t need to tell, going too far, while Parvati was under Russell’s thumb.

Rupert calls Russell a manipulative, deceiving, lying person, which is taking the easy way out. He wishes he had talked more to Sandra, but he was swayed (outwitted) by Russell. Parvati was a strong player, but her alliance choice was terrible.

Jerri casts the first vote for Parvati. Candice made it clear she was voting for Sandra. Danielle obviously gives a vote to Parvati. The next obvious vote is Courtney’s for Sandra. Coach gives Parvati another vote. Then Rupert goes for Sandra. Once again, Russell gets nothing, which is why it would have been stupid to get rid of him like Sandra so desperately wanted to.

The Survivor: Heroes Vs. Villains winner is Sandra Diaz. Parvati should have won, but the Heroes weren’t about to let that happen because they’re still upset about their own stupidity. That said, if Parvati couldn’t win, I’ll take a Sandra win.

Russell’s argument against Sandra is she’s a lousy social player, the worst physical player ever, and failed in her only strategic move of trying to get rid of him. He thinks Parvati should have won.

There are 5 nominees for dumbest move ever: Tyson changing his vote and in turn getting himself voted out, JT giving his idol to the enemy, James getting voted out with an idol in each pocket, Colby for taking Tina in Australia, and Erik for giving his immunity necklace away to Parvati’s girls. JT is the winner. He defends his decision, saying he was going big because he was pretty sure his tribe was getting ready to get rid of him anyway.

Amber is in the audience with the first Survivor baby, Lucia Rose. That’s why she was not on this season, though I don’t think we’ve seen the last of her.

The Sprint player of the season, as voted by the public, has come down to two people: Rupert and Russell. Russell has won the vote and the $100,000 prize.

Continuing its run as a top 20 program, Survivor has already been renewed for season 21 (and 22). Survivor: Nicaragua is the fall 2010 edition.

Survivor: Heroes Vs. Villains Episode 13

Survivor: Heroes Vs. Villains Episode 12 featured a double elimination. First, Candice was voted out because she flipped, and although this cost her in the end and people will paint her flipping as the wrong move, it’s easy to argue to the contrary. Then, after Russell decided he’d had enough of Danielle and Parvati, he and for some reason Jerri decided to get rid of Danielle.

Jerri says that now they gotta get rid of Rupert and Colby. Yeah, Jerri (specifically Jerri) already blew two chances to do that.

Parvati doesn’t trust Russell at all, but she’ll still play nice for the time being. She’s worried she’s next. No kidding. Russell can’t be trusted. He pulls off a bunch of crazy game changing moves that never make a great deal of sense, although you’ve gotta give him credit for being able to dupe all these people, some of whom are not idiots.

Treemail’s a Palm Pre. I’m gonna guess Sprint paid for this ad because Palm’s past the point of bothering, currently selling somewhere below “other” (maybe things will be better over at HP when they start making tablets). On the phone are videos from their families. If they want some more love, they have to win the challenge. They will use a pail to scoop water out of the ocean and pass it to their loved ones, who will dump it into their buckets. The winner will go to the blowholes to experience the natural wonder and get some food. Colby’s getting angry with his big brother. Russell, Jerri, and Rupert are competing for the win. Russell’s bucket is the first to move, but Jerri and her sister Jennifer win reward. Russell wants to go. She will be bringing Parvati and her father Michael. Can she take one more person? Yes, she can. Not Russell. Sandra and her uncle Fernando are also going.

Russell’s not happy, and Jerri knows it. If you’re going to vote stupidly, at least back that up with your other actions.

Back at camp, Russell takes credit for taking care of Jerri the entire time. Parvati, too, is an unappreciative little bitch. That said, he makes a final three deal with Colby and Rupert. Rupert doesn’t really trust this villain, but he’s a great guy to take to the end because nobody is going to vote for him. They’d like Russell to pretend like Jerri’s still on his side so that they can get rid of Parvati.

Rupert is keeping people up at night. This is a great time to do as much physical labor as possible.

With their arms outstretched, they will use the palms of their hands to hold two poles in the air. If their poles drop, they’re out. These poles are very light, and it won’t take much time for them to fall to the side. Speaking of which, Colby is out at 15 seconds. Sandra’s out after less than 1 minute. Russell is the next to fall. Just as Jeff’s saying that Jerri’s poles are dead center right where they started, she’s out. Rupert was one of the first to start shaking, but he’s still up there with Parvati at 17 minutes. Rupert’s flirting with disaster and is on the edge of elimination. Parvati starts to move as well. In the end, Parvati wins immunity.

Russell’s plan to take out another ally is up in smoke. Now he’ll have to burn his newest alliance instead, aiming for Rupert.

Sandra wants to get rid of Russell. Still. Armed with this information, Rupert goes to Russell to warn him about the girls. Russell approaches Sandra, who says she’s against him, but he ain’t going anywhere. Her advice to Rupert: loose lips sink ships. Now that they’re pushing his buttons, Russell wants to get rid of Sandra, too.

This is the final night on which Sandra can use her hidden immunity idol. Better safe than stupid. She would hate to go home with the idol in her bra, so she plays it. Nobody had any idea.

American Idol Season 9 Episode 38

Aaron Kelly was sent home in American Idol Season 9 Episode 37. Tonight the top 4 perform songs from the cinema with mentor Jamie Foxx. They will be performing duets to go along with their solo performances.

Lee DeWyze
Song: Kiss from a Rose by Seal from Batman Forever
Randy: Did nothing with that song. Just okay.
Ellen: Could have done more with the song, but you’re so good.
Kara: One of the most difficult songs to sing. You got lost a little.
Simon: Verging on karaoke.

Michael Lynche
Song: Will You Be There by Michael Jackson from Free Willy
Randy: Didn’t ever take off and started kinda rough.
Ellen: Little bit predictable.
Kara: Didn’t feel that from you. Played it safe.
Simon: No idea what Free Willy is and can’t make sense out of this.

Lee DeWyze and Crystal Bowersox (talk about your stacked deck)
Song: Falling Slowly by Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova from Once
Randy: Great song by two great singers. That could be a hit right now.
Ellen: Like the new Captain & Tennille.
Kara: One of my favorite moments of the entire season. Brought out the best in both of you.
Simon: Fantastic song.

Casey James
Song: Mrs. Robinson by Simon & Garfunkel from The Graduate
Randy: Kind of cool, laid back version of the song.
Ellen: Wish you would have gone further with it. I’ll turn it over to Mrs. Robinson.
Kara: Like to see you vulnerable and in touch with the song.
Simon: Didn’t think the song or the performance had the substance required on this important night.

Crystal Bowersox
Song: I’m Alright by Kenny Loggins from Caddyshack
Randy: Definitely an artist.
Ellen: Made that song better.
Kara: Completely agree with Ellen and Randy.
Simon: Back in the game.

Casey James & Michael Lynche
Song: Have You Ever Really Loved a Woman by Bryan Adams from Don Juan DeMarco
Randy: Loved the guitar playing.
Ellen: Yes, I have loved a woman.
Kara: The duets were incredible. Better than all of the solo performances.
Simon: Really good. The duets were a million times better than the solo performances.
