Survivor Cook Islands – Episode 11

November 30th, 2006 – The human target, otherwise known as Jonathan, got himself into some pretty hot water in last weeks episode of Survivor Cook Islands. It was his swing vote that resulted in Nate being voted off the island and, at the same time, Raro losing the odds. Naturally, neither team feels they can trust Jonathan anymore, and quite frankly, neither team seems to like him what so ever and that fact sure shines through in tonight’s episode.

Find out what you missed in episode 11 of Survivor Cook Islands, after the jump!

Speaking of everyone’s least favorite Survivor Cook Islands tribe member, Jonathan, he had a few of his own bits of wisdom to impart on us tonight, and believe it or not, he made a really good point. Right from the get go of tonight’s episode Jonathan was put on the defensive and decided to act quickly with a little strategic offense by chatting it up with Aitu about how little the remaining Raro tribe members do. Sadly, I found myself agreeing with him, and this wouldn’t be the first time tonight *gasp*. It really has seemed like Candice, Adam and Parvati do nothing more than sit around or, in some cases, lay around in the shelter and make out, either way, they don’t exactly contribute anything useful to the team. Although Raro also has a point when they say Jonathan is a lieing, sneaky, rat bastard; so I’m torn.

Parvati in particular was really raining the crap on Jonathan tonight. She was all over his case and was even coming close to sounding like Susan Hawk of Survivor Borneo. If you never watched Survivor Borneo, or you can’t recall who Susan Hawk is, she was the Survivor made famous – also my favorite Survivor, strictly for this comment, I may add – for her season finale parting words about fellow competitor and Survivor Borneo finalist Kelly. Susan’s exact words were:

“But if I would ever pass you along in life and you are laying there dying of thirst, I would not give you a drink of water. I would let the vultures take you and do whatever they want with you with no ill regrets.”

I don’t think I’ll ever be able to forget that moment. Not only did she throw that comment out, she said it with feeling and energy, she was spewing fire! I love you Susan! You Rocked! Maybe we’ll get lucky this season and Parvati will throw something just a memorable at Jonathan. Fingers crossed!

Survivor Cook Islands Reward Challenge

  • It’s a Survivor Auction!
  • Each tribe member is given $500 cash and is able to bid it in $20 incriments on a wide variety of items, some of which are on full display, others of which are covered.
  • No one is allowed to share their reward with their fellow tribe members; however, one tribe member can be lent cash by another.

Jonathan was the first to bid heavy and dropped $100 to see what was under cover #1, and the lucky bugger scored himself a hot dog, fries and a cold beer. Second to walk away with some goods was Parvati, who was intentionally bid up to $360 by Jonathan for a chance at a hot bubble bath. The third prize was talked up by Survivor Cook Islands host Jeff Probst as being able to potentially effect the course of the game, which instantly resulted in high bids. Becky actually had to borrow cash from fellow alliance member Yul to flip the $640 bill, but it was worth it. She was given the ability to send any tribe member to exile island right then and there, and she even got to keep that tribe members cash. Naturally, Becky chooses to give Candice the boot for the fourth time in a row, and, for whatever reason, Yul chooses that time to let everyone know he has the hidden immunity idol. Weird strategy man, I hope it works.

Shortly after, Ozzy was quick to drop $420 on a never ending ice cream maker that he can use for the duration of the show, while Jonathan scored himself a pepperoni pizza for $240. Sadly, Sundra was the only person to get screwed in the auction, as she walked odd with a sea cucumber for her $140 bid. Right after which, Jonathan bid $100 to make use of a toothpaste and cup of mouth wash. I guess he needs it after all that food? That should go over well.

Back at base camp we quickly learn just how much Aitu is getting sick of Jonathan. At first, getting him to swing the vote to give them the power looked like a great idea, but now, not so much. No one was impressed with his performance or attitude throughout the entire challenge. Aitu is so sick of him that they even start to consider getting rid of him again. All the while, Candice is sitting on exile island crying over how much she missed Adam and could really use a hug. Bleh.

Survivor Cook Islands Immunity Challenge

Round 1

  • Read four questions, each of which will be a math question that will result in a number.
  • Work some mathematical magic with the set of four numbers to come up with a number that coincides with a box on the table.
  • Crack the box open, pull out a rag and hop it holds a key.
  • Use said to key unlock a lock, raising a flag and.
  • The first 3 tribe members to raise their flag continue on to round 2.

Parvati, Jonathan and Adam are the top 3 tribe members and move on to round 2.

Round 2

  • More questions, more numbers, more mathematical magic.
  • Open the corresponding box and grab the key contained within.
  • Use said key to open the entrance to a jungle gym style obstacle course.
  • Crawl through the jungle gym, run across the floating pontoons and raise the final flag to win immunity!

Sadly, this one wasn’t even close. Adam got off to a quick start and never looked back. The best part was how he casually walked up to his flag and slowly raised it while looking back at Jonathan and Parvati, who were still battling their puzzles/the jungle gym.

Back at base camp Raro is so sick of Jonathan that they plead with Yul to get rid of him, saying they could be voted off happily as long as they knew he didn’t stand a chance. They all know Yul is the “ringmaster” and try desperately to convince him to boot Jonathan, but Yul doesn’t want anything to do with it as it doesn’t fit into his strategy to get rid of him so soon.

To add more fuel to the fire, Jonathan went out and caught some fish, came back to the beach and started to cook them up with Aitu, who all decided it would be a good time to eat all the fish without seeing if Raro wanted any. It didn’t take long for Parvati to crawl out of the shelter and her three way “cuddle” session with Candice and Adam to freak out on Jonathan. Parvati has a fit about them not sharing and tells Jonathan everything Aitu had to say about him, none of which Yul denied. This is the second time tonight I agree with Jonathan. He caught the fish, and Aitu and him are the ones doing all the work, while Raro sit around and cuddle up in their shelter all day, why should he share food with them when they haven’t done anything to deserve it? Screw ’em, slackers.

  1. On an unrelated note, did anyone else think that Yul made his first major misstep in this episode? After both challenges and after Raro pleaded with Yul to boot Jonathan first, Yul took Becky aside to dicuss. He told her that booting Jonathan now would allow him to appease Raro and still have a numbers advantage, thus probably ensuring that he would have Raro’s votes from the jury when it came down to the final 2. Oh – oops! Yul has a tight alliance with Becky, which she presumes means final 2, does he not? How is it possibly helpful to point out to your final 2 alliance partner how you can beat them in the final 2? And lo and behold, Becky didn’t go along with that plan, and Aitu didn’t vote for Jonathan.

  2. Laura: My apologies Re: the Ringmaster link, but it’s also not a confirmed fact that he’s the winner either, merely speculation. And, as you noted in your second comment, I think he made some very big mistakes in tonight’s episode. I think he’ll be taken close to the end by someone (maybe becky) and then cut out. He’s playing the game very well, but he’s given out way to much information in the past 2 episodes. I just don’t see him winning anymore.

  3. I almost gave up watching survivor after having to watch Heidi and Jenna. Arrogant lazy women who get by on their looks and believe everyone should be serving them. This episode more than made up for the past. Watching lazy people get their due was delightfull. I love Jonathan. He’s done exactly what he should do. Try to win. It does not surprise me that that Adam Parvati and Candice actually thought he should throw himself under the bus for them. People like that assume the world revolves around them. I love seeing reality shoved in their faces. pun intended.
Parvati in particular gets under my skin. Her survivor game plan has been “Don’t vote for me because I’m pretty!”. bleh. I hope Jonathan is around for a while to really get under her skin.
I do have a question about him though. He said he was jewish, and he ate a HOTDOG and Pepperoni pizza! That’s bad isn’t it?

  4. I didn’t even consider that. I don’t know much about Judaism myself, but maybe it’s only the stricter more orthodox side of the religion that has to have all their food kosher and stuff?

Even if Jonathan only ate kosher, he’d have to eat normal on the island, or else he’d starve even more then survivors usually do. 😛

  5. I don’t think Yul made a mistake, I think he called Raro’s bluff. If he makes it to the final 2, he’s a shoe-in with the jury regardless. He would’ve been a fool to vote out Jonathan at this point. They only way I could imagine him having any trouble is if he goes up against Ozzy.
