Bad News Comes In Pairs

Today’s been a pretty rough day. Like the saying goes, bad news comes in pairs and today has been true to the fact.

Felix the Cat has been acting funny the last little while, throwing up fairly often and this morning he had an accident on our bed and threw up five times as well, which obviously isn’t a good sign. So we called the vet and were lucky enough to get an appointment today because someone cancelled, so we went in to have him checked out. He’s healthy in every way, only he’s lost 1lbs over the last month and was dehydrated. He eats all the time and he eats a lot when he does and he also drinks all the time as well, so hearing that he was dehydrated and lost 1lbs was not good news. The vet checked him out and said it’s most likely hypo-thyroidism, but we’d have to get blood and urinal tests run on him to find out. So, close to $350 later, he had blood and urine samples taken and we’ll have to wait until Monday to know for sure what’s up. It’s $350 we don’t have and can’t afford, so it wasn’t what I wanted to hear at all, though hopefully this will at least explain what’s wrong with him. It could be worms as well, but the vet seems fairly confident it’s hypo-thyroidism, which is apparently a better of the two options and easier to treat. Or at least that’s how she made it sound. Luckily they gave him some fluids and vitamins to rehydrate him and sent us home with some food that’s easy on his tummy. He’s eaten up a whole wack of food and already looks a bit better, so hopefully we’ll get everything figured on Monday.

That, however, was not the worst news of the day. Chrys woke me up early this morning after being woken up by her cellphone ringing. Usually she would ignore it that early in the morning, but it rang and then someone left voice mail and then my phone started to ring right away, so she knew something was wrong. She answered my phone and it was her mom. Her grandpa Baustert, who has been living in the nursing home for quite a few years now, passed away late last night/this morning. I only had the pleasure of meeting Harold a few times and the parkinsons and alzheimers had started to get a pretty good hold on him. But even through all that he seemed like a good, friendly guy.

The funeral is going to be held Wednesday in St Edward, Nebraska, where he’s lived forever, and Chrys is flying back home Monday morning for two weeks. There is no way we could afford to send her home, so luckily her parents wired us some money for the plane tickets and to get her a proper outfit for the funeral. All the tickets are baught and we go hunting for her outfit tomorrow. There is a lot to get done before she leaves Monday morning and it’s going to be really hard having her gone for two weeks. Since we’ve been married we’ve never been apart, not even for a day that I can recall, so this is going to be interesting. But I know she needs to be with the family to get through this and to help her mom get through it too, so I’m glad she’s able to go back. I wish I could go back with her, but I just can’t afford it. I’m sure everything will be fine and we’ll be able to talk everyday on the computer anyhow, it’s just going to be weird.

So, needless to say, we’re both low on sleep (Chrys only got 2 hours before the phone call and she hasn’t been able to sleep since, though I went back to bed and slept for a few more hours). We’re still both feeling pretty rough with everything that’s happened today, it’s been a tough day, but we’re getting through it and it’s almost over.

We’re going to Rain Salon shortly to get Chrys hair cut and then we’ll probably do some grocery shopping tonight, as we’re in dire need of food stuff. Other than that, we’ll probably sit around and watch movies and TV for the rest of the night, though I might be back to do some blogging. We watched CLICK last night and really enjoyed it, so I’ll be reviewing that, and we also went to Nirvana Indian Cuisine on Main and 7th for dinner last night, which was very underwhelming, and will also be getting a review at some point.

Survivor Cook Islands Recap: Stephanie Eliminated

Welcome to the Cook Islands and the October 12th Survivor Cook Islands Recap:

This weeks episode kicks off with a pleasant site, the boys of Raro sitting around, chatting and “brushing” their teeth with make shift toothbrush crafted from what looks like pieces of bambo? While sitting around socializing, the guys get to chatting about the girls and start to get themselves a little worried, so what do they do? *gasp* They actually work! Everyone shoots off in different directions. Nate rounds up a big ol’ pile of firewood, brad goes fishing and adam goes crabbing. I wonder if the girls notice the sudden change of pace? Hehe, yup, they sure did.

Apparently, before coming a big time Survivor star, Jonathan was a star of another kind. In fact, he starred in a movie along side Jason Alexander, better known as George from Seinfield. The movie, Down on the Waterfront, even scored itself an Emmy nomination. How cool is that? It turns out Ozzy isn’t the only one that’s acted before.

Back on the Aitu beach, the girls are having a gross out event of their own, comparing armpit hair. Yummy! It’s a good thing Cao Boi decided to go fishing, if he was around he may have joined in and probably would have lost. Yuck.

Biggest Loser Recap: Melinda Eliminated

Thus far both the red and blue teams have lost a total combined weight of 438lbs on NBCs hit reality TV series, the Biggest Loser.

The blue team has decided to take a bit of a new approach to the game, even though they didn’t really have anything to do with it. They’ve decided to sit back and watch the red team self destruct, which they managed to do a pretty darn good job of in the last few episodes.

Because of their own stupidity, the red team lost Nelson on last weeks episode, and their frustrations sure showed. Everyone was down in the dumps, whining and crying, and refusing to do anything of any use. Kim was pissed and told everyone to get off their asses, quit whining and getting running to the gate and back. Kai has the balls to tell Kim she just wants to be left alone and kim tells her she can be alone running to the gate. LOL, Go Kim!

During the run, Ken, emotionally and physically exhausted, stops on the ride of the road, sits down on the curb and breaks down in tears. Poor guy, he’s the only person on the red team that I like anymore, the rest of them are pissing me off.

Kim recognizes that the red team as a whole is quickly imploding on itself and sits everyone down for a chat. She shares some stories and tries to refocus everyone and ends up breaking down herself. Everyone misses Nelson. To be honest, I’m still rather pissed that Nelson went home and the fact that the girls are whining and crying about it really burns me, since it’s their fault to begin with. They were the ones that decided to go the alliance route and were to stupid to think, “hey, maybe the guys will create an alliance amungst themselves to defend against the girls alliance.” Whiners, it’s your own fault, suck it up.

Internet Problems

For some reason my net has been out for the past few hours so I haven’t been able to post my usual Biggest Loser Recap, but, have no fear, it too shall come! Not until tomorrow though. I’m tired and this working out business I’ve been doing lately is tiring my body out, so now, I go sleep. Tomorrow, I blog!

Thanks for the patients folks. In the mean time, check out www.tvgasm.com for Biggest Loser info.

Signed with… Blood?

Actor Tobin Bell, known for his role as the sadistic mastermind Jigsaw from the Saw movie series, has taken fanfare to a whole new level. The famed horror actor has donated a vial of his own blood to be mixed with red ink used in the Saw III promotional posters. Ewwww.

Around 1,000 posters will be made and sold for roughly $20, while the first poster will be signed by the entire cast and crew of the horror movie Saw III and auctioned off. All proceeds from the auction will be donated to the American Red Cross.

Lions Gate, the distributors behind the Saw horror series, will hold a nationwide Halloween Blood Drive timed with the release of Saw III. This year is the third in a row that the distribution company has teamed with the American Red Cross to run the ghoulish blood drive. Since the inception of the Halloween Blood Drive, Lions Gate and the American Red Cross have teamed up to collect more than 14,000 litres of “ink”.

Amazing Race 10 Winner: Not Tom & Terry

This weeks episode of Amazing Race 10 finds all contestants held up in Hanoi, Vietnam, waiting for information on the next leg of the race.

Erwin and Godwin, having finished the last leg of the race in first place, are the first to set out on this leg of the race, which see’s them cabbing to the South East corner of Ly Thai To garden. All teams will start this leg of the race with $50,000 dong or Vietnamese dollars.

The order in which teams starts is very important in Amazing Race and can dictate a lot of what happens from leg to leg of the race. The order the teams started in for this leg of the race was:

  1. Erwin & Godwin
  2. James & Tyler
  3. Rob & Kim
  4. Dustin & Kandice
  5. Peter & Sarah
  6. Lyn & Karlyn
  7. David & Mary
  8. Tom & Terry

Once teams arrive at the SE corner of Ly Thai To garden they must listen for an announcement which will tell them where to go next. One by one each team determines the sound is coming from a statue and they crowd around it to hear what it says. The announcement tells them they must take a taxi across the Red River to Ben Xai Cai Lai, where they will find a bus station. They must then take a bus to Ha Long Bay and find Hydroform Tavern.

As usual, since the teams started this leg of the race in the middle of the night, the bus depot is closed, allowing all teams enough time to catch up. All teams are even, as a result, and sit around waiting for the first bus to Ha Long Bay.

Once at Ha Long Bay the teams run into a Roadblock. This roadblock is going to be a toughy and will see one member of each team ascending a straight faced cliff using a mechanical ascending device, sort of like repelling, only the complete opposite.

The first team to arrive at the roadblock is Rob & Kim and Rob elects to scale the rock face. Because they some how managed to get a pretty good lead, Rob is the first to complete the roadblock challenge and learns that the next leg of the race will be for all teams to travel, via motorboat, to Sung Sot Cave.

For whatever reason, when Sarah & Peter arrive at the Roadblock, Sarah elects to scale the wall and wastes valuable time trying to do so, though she eventually manages to power through it and get to the top. That is one tough girl and she doesn’t give up.
