Age of Love Winner

Two weeks ago when Mark eliminated Jayana for little reason and without even bothering to get her side of the story, it became clear that we were heading for disaster (moreso than the show had already presented). Last week, we saw one of the more laughable final fours ever. Maria, who’s been threatening to leave the show for weeks, finally did so. Then Megan, who made the final three without having even been kissed, chickened out on the plane ride. So we pretty much ended up at the final two by default. I figure I’ve come this far, so I might as well watch the rest of the train wreck and see the remainder of the carnage and who “wins”.

Amanda, 25, is the last women standing from the 20s group. I think she’s the prettiest of the lot, but that’s about the extent I’ll go with the compliments. She fell in love with Mark within about two seconds, which continues despite her admission she’s naive for believing him. Jen, age 48, is the last woman representing the 40s. As great a catch as she appears to be, her age will present a big obstacle for a guy who’s looking to have kids. Granted, this is a reality TV dating show, so maybe talking about the couple having children is a stretch anyway.

It’s time to meet the parents in Melbourne, Australia. Jen thinks ahead and brings a gift for Mark’s mom; Amanda gets upset that she didn’t think of it. Jen reveals she’s 48, which again draws surprise, but nobody seems to mind. She seems to be bonding really well with the family, but Amanda just sits there and watches. Mark’s mother prefers Amanda and thinks she’s just shy; his sister prefers Jen.

Mark and Jen go on a gondola ride on their one-on-one date, followed by dinner in a stunning aquarium setting. Jen tells him he’s given her hope again for love. The next day, Mark and Amanda go to see some native Australian animals, then head to dinner at a Japanese restaurant, followed by a return to the room. Amanda acknowledges to the audience that she loves Mark but stops just shy of that with him.

We then get the usual “I like them both, this is the most difficult decision ever, yada, yada, yada,” which goes on for about 10 minutes. And the winner is… Amanda. Not a particularly big surprise. Jen believes it’s all about age.

As this season concludes, the fate of the next season is unknown, but it has shown decent enough numbers for a summer show.

Big Brother 8 Spoilers

Since the Big Brother house is under surveillance 24 hours a day, it allows us to know quite a bit of what’s going on before the show airs. Some people would rather not spoil the suspense. If you’re impatient (like me), though, you may be interested in knowing.

Big Brother Pilot Stopped By CBS

TMZ reports that lawyers for Endemol, the production company behind Big Brother, have sent a cease and desist letter to the pilot who has been flying banners over the house for years.

This development happened after it was learned that a banner was going to be flown that spoiled the twist that Eric is America’s player. It also follows on the heels of episode 14 last night, which pointed the finger at Eric as being the one who’s been screwing with the vote all along, though it ironically may just backfire and harm those who it was intended to help.

Pilot Jerry Hider told TMZ, “If I had a bunch of attorneys I would fight this, but it’s not worth my time.”

America’s Got Talent, Last Comic Standing Renewed

NBC announced that is has renewed two of its reality TV shows: America’s Got Talent and Last Comic Standing.

America’s Got Talent in its second season has averaged 12.1 million viewers, making it one of the most successful shows of the summer. Last Comic Standing has averaged 6.7 million viewers during its fifth season.

The hosts for both shows will be returning next year, as will America’s Got Talent judges David Hasselhoff, Sharon Osbourne, and Piers Morgan. The season finale for America’s Got Talent will air in two weeks, while Last Comic Standing will finish up in September.

Big Brother 8 Episode 14

When we left the houseguests in BB8 Episode 13, they were hanging upside down fighting for HOH. Those of you who read the spoilers in that post already know the results of the competition, but tonight we get to watch it play out and see who gets nominated. Dustin is of the belief that it’s 6 against 3. We’ll see how long that lasts.

Amber is first out at 6 minutes.
Eric is disqualified at 9 minutes for going too high.
Jameka is eliminated next.

Generally, they force everyone inside when banners fly over the house because it had such a big influence over the game in season 1. However, since it flew over with perfect timing during an endurance competition, the entire house got to see this one: “We love Nick. Amber & Eric are Liars. LNC is the nerd herd.”

Zach falls at 32 minutes.
Dick is next out at 44 minutes.
Jessica is out at 59 minutes.

Around that time, the gloves come off. Dick starts (again) with the personal attacks on Kail and Jen. Jen then starts about Danielle’s relationship with Nick. Eric for some reason jumps into the battle and begins yelling at Jen, an odd move for someone who’s been pretty much safe and in the middle most of the time.

Jen falls at 1 hour 31 minutes.
Kail makes a deal with Danielle that she’ll be safe, even if she puts her up. As if Danielle controls the vote (she can’t vote, and her father probably won’t even listen to her, let alone anyone else). Kail drops at 1 hour 36 minutes. Danielle is the new HOH.

Danielle believes the second vote to keep Nick was to set her up. America voting on the basis of popularity is wreaking havoc on the house, but at least it’s keeping things interesting. She realizes based on the banner that Eric was responsible for that vote.

Dick and Danielle decide to confide in Jessica because they don’t really have anyone else to count on, telling her Eric’s in an alliance with Jen and Kail. This again? I was impressed they figured the first part out, but then they come up with the theory Jen’s in yet another alliance. Jessica, who’s been getting closer to Eric lately, brings this information to him.

America wants to see Jen get nominated, giving Eric yet another simple task to complete, but perhaps not as simple as last week. While Eric’s pitching the scenario, Dick blows up at him because he knows the voting is screwy.

At the nomination ceremony:
Dustin is safe.
Eric is safe.
Jameka is safe.
Amber is safe.
Dick is safe.
Jessica is safe.
Zach is safe.

Jen and Kail have been nominated. For the third time in a row. Surely a surprise to at least three people. It appears, however, that the actual plan may be to backdoor Eric. Who do you think will go home? Jen, Kail, or neither again?

Jessica Collins Joins Heroes Season 2

Jessica Collins, who played Lizzie Miller on The Nine, is the latest hero, and will have a regular role in Heroes season 2. She will play the role of Sophie, who is reportedly “a mysterious woman with powers of her own who works for an organization that’s keeping tabs on the heroes.”

Previously credited as Ava Collins and Jessie Collins, Jessica Collins has also had guest roles on CSI, Law & Order: Criminal Intent, and Ghost Whisperer.

Of course, the constantly expanding number of heroes does mean that some of the lesser characters will be left out of some episodes, but it does allow for additional story development.

Fox Revises Fall Lineup

Bones moves to Tuesday at 8, with Kitchen Nightmares replacing it on Wednesdays at 9. Thursday is a reality TV night, with Are you Smarter than a 5th Grader? and Don’t Forget the Lyrics! New Amsterdam will not  air until midseason. See full schedule below. If you can keep up with what’s on when, you’re faster than I am. Granted, minus American Idol, nobody will probably be watching anyway until January, although I do intend to cover Prison Break season 3.

Big Brother 8 Episode 13

It’s eviction Thursday in the Big Brother 8 house. Who will go? Nick or Kail? Welcome to another live blog.

Nick and Kail are both surprised by Nick’s nomination. Dustin acknowledges it was a house decision. Dustin at this point appears to be telling Kail the truth: that Nick is the actual target (and Kail appears to be able to slip past yet another week). Dick’s unhappy with the decision. Amber breaks out the fake tears for Nick. Okay, so they may be real tears but for a different reason than she’s telling Nick. Not that anybody’s surprised either way. Danielle obviously wants to save him, which somehow leads to him getting mad at her (he says he’s upset that she didn’t tell him everyone thinks he voted for Kail last week).

Dick lays into Jen about the POV. Again. He compares her to Saddam Hussein, and she reacts by smiling at him. Then it’s Danielle’s turn to fight with Jen, which ends when Dick dumps a pitcher of iced tea on her, and Nick, who claims he doesn’t care about being nominated, has to get in his two cents as well. On a sidenote, Nick shaved his head into a mohawk. Julie tries to pretend it looks good.

Nick looks like a sitting duck, and then America comes into play. America, which seemed to love Kail initially, has now turned on her and wants to see her evicted from the house. Eric tries his best to see that it happens. Is it actually possible to sway the votes, or is this just a big fakeout as usual?

In his HOH interview, Dustin tells Julie he has some regrets about taking the money and the trip but ultimately is pleased with the decision. He also says that intimidating people is Dick’s strategy.

By a vote of 6-2, Nick is evicted from the Big Brother house.

Nick will allow Danielle to decide whether she wants to be involved with him after getting out of the house. He believes Jen is the other vote for Kail, and Eric reveals that it was actually him as America’s player.

As they walk out into the backyard, it appears they actually put some thought and time into this HOH competition. Yes, it’s endurance time. Everyone has to get onto a clock-like aparatus with one leg on each side of a pole, which swings back and forth. After the break, everyone is informed they must hang upside down, and vulture droppings begin coming down. Unlikely this will last very long.
