American Idol Season 10 Episode 31

The top six performed in American Idol Season 10 Episode 30. Tonight one more person will be sent home.

Haley Reinhart steps forward first. By some miracle, she is safe.

Scotty McCreery is up next. He is going to relax for a minute. Really, Seacrest? Lauren Alaina goes next. She, too, can relax for a minute. Okay, tired of this game already. Casey Abrams next. He attemps to explain his lame growling, but regardless, his result can wait a moment.

James Durbin is next. He is safe.

Now the others return to the stage. Lauren is safe.

Jacob Lusk and Casey are in the bottom three as expected/usual… alongside Scotty? That’s different. Jacob is safe. The person that leaves the competition tonight is Casey Abrams.

American Idol Season 10 Episode 30

Stefano was finally eliminated in American Idol Season 10 Episode 29. Tonight the top 6 perform and hopefully will be able to put together a show that’s close to as good as The Voice (but I doubt it). This week’s theme is songs from Carole King. If you say so.

Jacob Lusk
Song: Oh No Not My Baby
Steven: About time you shook your tail feathers.
Jennifer: Not perfect, but you brought the performance.
Randy: You brought yourself back.
Number: 1-866-IDOLS-01 or 1-866-IDOLS-07

Lauren Alaina
Song: Where You Lead
Jennifer: So proud of you. Felt you pushing.
Randy: Song was a little safe and boring, but you came out with a vengeance.
Steven: Saw you shine tonight.
Number: 1-866-IDOLS-02 or 1-866-IDOLS-08

Here’s how they plan to fill in the night. Everybody will be singing duets. Haley and Casey have drawn the short straw and are paired up together.

Haley Reinhart & Casey Abrams
Song: I Feel the Earth Move
Steven: Really good.

Scotty McCreery
Song: You’ve Got a Friend
Randy: Beginning was flawless. Didn’t know you had that range.
Steven: Don’t think you ever sang better.
Jennifer: That’s why we couldn’t let you get away with what you did last week. Getting much better at reaching for that higher register in your voice.
Number: 1-866-IDOLS-03 or 1-866-IDOLS-09

James Durbin
Song: Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow
Steven: Had me sold right in the beginning.
Jennifer: Magical. You are going to be the star of the night. Strong every single week.
Randy: Not just a great rock singer. Proved you are a great singer. One of the performances of the last couple months. Might just win the whole thing.
Number: 1-866-IDOLS-04 or 1-866-IDOLS-10

Scotty McCreery & Lauren Alaina
Song: Up on the Roof
Jennifer: Lauren, you sing your… brains off. You did a real good job, too, Scotty.

Casey Abrams
Song: Hi-De-Ho
Randy: Like this song was written for you. Took me back to New Orleans.
Steven: Found your niche.
Jennifer: In your element.
Number: 1-866-IDOLS-05 or 1-866-IDOLS-11

Haley Reinhart
Song: Beautiful
Steven: Nailed it.
Jennifer: One of the best voices in this competition.
Randy: I didn’t get it.
Number: 1-866-IDOLS-06 or 1-866-IDOLS-12

Jacob Lusk & James Durbin
Song: I’m Into Something Good
Steven: You guys were having fun. Where were you going with all that?

Survivor: Redemption Island Episode 11

The ball kept rolling in Survivor: Redemption Island Episode 10, and Julie was voted off the island.

Steve shakes Phillip’s hand in attempt to try to bury the hatchet. Seeing how Phil has behaved, it’s no surprise that he doesn’t care and does not want to be an adult. Rob’s completely comfortable with Phillip being racist. One more reason to bring him to the finals.

Phillip saw in a vision that he’s going to find his shorts. During her bragging, Julie made a mistake. She said she buried the shorts and put a rock on top. That’s as good as any hidden immunity idol clue. After a bit of digging, Phil finds his shorts.

Meanwhile, over on Redemption Island, Matt’s growing increasingly whiny. You would be, too, if God forced you to live on an island with no way out (other than to lose a challenge on purpose). Hopefully today’s challenge involves slapping Matt.

Matt is joined by Mike and Julie for the duel. It is Survivor shuffleboard. Their goal is to land three pucks in the endzone. Mike lands his first puck. Then he lands his second puck. Julie scores after him. Matt scores on his third try. Matt lands his second puck in the fourth round. Then he lands his third puck. So basically God continues to force him to stay in the game. Julie lands one puck but knocks another one out in the process. Mike scores again, and Julie has been eliminated. She plans to join a church when she goes home because maybe next time God will force her to suffer instead with his evil plans of giving people a shot at $1 million.

After watching the duel, Andrea feels guilty. Grant suggests voting her out.

The immunity challenge is a logroll. Chocolate cake and milk will go to the winner. Grant beats Boston Rob. Andrea loses to Ashley. Ralph beats Steve. Phillip takes out Natalie. Grant looked the strongest in that first round, and he beats Ashley. Ralph beats Phillip. In a hard fought final match, Grant beats Ralph to win immunity and cake. He asks Rob to join him for some food. Then he asks Andrea to come along as well in hopes of making her feel comfortable. After he is done picking, they get a box, which will be brought with them unopened to tribal council. Then they have two minutes to eat and hopefully not choke.

When they get back from the challenge, Steve says he’s about ready to drop. His strength is gone, as if it were there initially. That makes him non-threatening, whereas Ralph’s head is still in the game.

Rob approaches Natalie and Ashley to discuss the lack of trust of Andrea. He wants to get rid of Ralph next, but if the twist is to get rid of two people, she’s the second.

Steve tells the girls he will vote for Rob tonight, and they need to get rid of Rob anyway, so they should join him. He is not wrong that they need an end game plan to eliminate the biggest threat. Rob immediately gets wind of this plan. Well, then, perhaps that makes Steve a threat to Rob after all.

Although Steve tries to play up his lack of energy at tribal council, they’re not buying it. He’s still playing the game and won’t be quitting any time soon. He reminds them of Rob turning on Lex (speaking of people who need to be slapped, did he ever during All Stars) after he saved Amber. If you remember the season correctly, Rob did stab a lot of people, but he remained true to Amber, Jenna, and Rupert, while having no allegiance implied or otherwise to Lex (except in Lex’s mind). He merely said he’d take care of him if he could. He could not. Not only that, but Lex and Kathy acted out of their own interests. They were concerned what would happen if they screwed Rob over.

With 5 votes, Ralph has been voted off the island.

Now let’s get to the twist. They will compete in their next immunity challenge and then immediately vote out one more tribe member. They sure are desperate to eliminate people.

The challenge is a memory game in which Jeff shows them a series of symbols. Everybody gets the first, second, and third ones right. Phillip and Natalie are out on the fouth one. Grant and Andrea are out next. Steve and Ashley are then eliminated, and Rob wins immunity.

With 4 votes, Steve has talked himself out of the game. Thus concludes your regularly scheduled Pagonging. Good riddance to the tribe whose downfall started when they decided to throw a challenge to get rid of Russell. Let this be a lesson to future contestants. Don’t throw challenges unless doing so makes sense.

The Biggest Loser Season 11 Episode 17

In a rarity for this season, nobody said they wanted to go home in The Biggest Loser Season 11 Episode 16. If the previews are to be believed, that will be a short lived change, and somebody will be quitting tonight “for the first time ever.” I think they’re taking liberties with the term to quit. This whole season has been a frustrating pattern of people throwing weigh ins so that they can be sent home or raising their hand to volunteer to leave. I count Moses, Hannah, Justin, Kaylee, Marci, Marci again, Marci again, Jesse, Deni, Jay, Irene, Don, Larialmy, Dan, Don again, and Ana on the list of those who have gained weight on purpose and/or asked to be sent home, sometimes so their children could stay, sometimes so other people’s children could stay, sometimes just simply because “it’s too hard” (you’ll live). (Even the crew stopped working for two weeks this season.) Seriously, people, if you don’t want to be on the show, save a spot for somebody who does.

Leaving behind the ranting for a moment, we start off the show with a visit from Ali and Sam. Ali wrote a book and speaks about her experiences across the country. Sam is a personal trainer at The Biggest Loser Resort. They’re there to do some training and cooking.

Rulon says he’s within 15 pounds of his goal weight. Yeah, but wrestling build or not, he’s still over 300 pounds.

Next we head to the race track where Tara beat the boys pulling cars. Speaking of which, Tara started a foundation for childhood obesity, and she’s back today to relive the challenge. The winner will get their face on a box of Wheaties plus $5,000. Oh, and they also get VIP tickets to a NASCAR race. Tara knows her competition is the gold medalist. In the final stretch, Austin makes a run for it. As the finish line approaches, Tara’s looking to make it a photo finish. They’ll have to check the cameras to find out who won. If I had my choice, I’d go with Tara. And so it shall be. By mere inches, Tara wins the challenge.

Cara and Rulon start chatting at last chance training. He doesn’t care whether he’s eliminated or not.

After 4 months and 98 pounds lost, Irene is nonetheless reluctant to accept that she’s worth something.

Before the weigh in starts, Rulon has an announcement. This is his last time on the scale. He would like to leave for personal reasons. That’s it. No explanations. Really, dude? Good. Go then. He walks out. There are contestants who started this journey at lower than 301 pounds, but Rulon has convinced himself that he’s finished/healthy at that weight. He arrived at that conclusion because he’s almost at his competition weight. Whatever. Let’s just be glad the challenge victory/prize went to the right person.

So, with that out of the way, let’s move on to the weigh in and prepare for another elimination.

Irene: 154 pounds (-3, 1.91%) – over 100 pounds lost
Kaylee: 165 pounds (+2, 1.23%)
Austin: 243 pounds (-7, 2.80%)
Olivia: 162 pounds (-6, 3.57%)
Jay: 258 pounds (-7, 2.64%)
Hannah: 156 pounds (-5, 3.11%)

Having gained weight again, Kaylee finds herself below the yellow line alongside Irene. Irene’s a much bigger threat, but she has a tight alliance with Hannah and Olivia, which is all she needs to remain safe.

Votes
Hannah: Kaylee
Austin: Irene
Olivia: Kaylee

In the event of a tie, the person with the lowest percentage of weight loss is eliminated. With two votes, Kaylee is not The Biggest Loser. From her starting weight of 233 pounds, Kaylee is now down 68 pounds to 165 pounds, where she has decided to maintain her weight. Not having dated previously, she is now going out with Vance, who attempted to get on the ranch in the lame/ill-fated twist in week 13.

Two eliminations in an hour, and it didn’t feel rushed. Was that so hard? Up next: a new X Factor ripoff (which was a ripoff of Pop Idol). Yeah, I’ll watch. Can’t be any worse than this season of American Idol.

The Celebrity Apprentice 4 Episode 8

The men have been begging Trump to get rid of Gary Busey for weeks, but he ignored them, instead watching the team self destruct. In The Celebrity Apprentice 4 Episode 7, Busey’s number was finally up.

Everybody else may be celebrating (including the men), but NeNe takes the opportunity to sulk out in the hallway. She doesn’t like La Toya any more. Not that she did in the first place.

Trump approaches the subject with the remaining contestants. Should he run for President? It’s not so far fetched an idea, although I’m not sure anybody thinks he’s serious. He may not be a politician, but he’s got a strong business background, which would make him more qualified to fix our fiscal woes than the people currently in charge.

This week’s task is to create an ad campaign for the Trump Hotel Collection, which is apparently a real thing. They will create 4 page ads with each page being able to run as an ad on its own. They will be judged on creativity and originality, brand messaging, and the overall pitch. Although Ivanka’s not out of town this week (she’s standing right there giving them instructions), now’s as good an opportunity as any to bring Eric Trump into the show. Ivanka instead will act as one of the executives.

John Rich reluctantly steps forward to be the project manager for the men. He wouldn’t stay at Trump’s hotels. Star volunteers to be the project manager for the women, and she has stayed at his hotels.

Star’s concept is individual elegance, collective luxury. La Toya’s unimpressed.

The men’s concept is “live the life” because that’s what the executive said. What that means or how they’re going to translate it into a campaign, they’re not sure.

Star sends NeNe and La Toya on errands. So send the two people who don’t get along shopping together. Granted, I’m sure NeNe could find a way to hate any of these women, then act like the victim. This pairing allows them to have a therapy session before proceeding with the task.

Eric is concerned that the men are a bit long-winded. Nobody’s going to read a thesis when they’re flipping through a magazine. The most interesting thing for me is that people actually still read magazines.

It doesn’t take the women long to get in their element. They hire a manicurist and makeup artists and have Ivanka’s representatives bring over some jewelry. Unlike previous project managers, Star is smart enough to want to get Hope to model for them in a bathtub.

John is happy when Meat Loaf is removed from the mix, leaving him alone to work with Lil Jon on the campaign.

Don Jr. thinks the women are organized, but he’s not sure about the demographic they’re targeting.

NeNe and La Toya go shopping as planned, and they’re actually getting along. There’s a problem, though. Star told them she wants them back in an hour and a half. Now she realizes they’ll be lucky to get down the street in that amount of time.

The photographer is worried about time, but that’s okay because Star’s worried enough about that for him and the rest of the team. There are two shots that have to be done in the daylight. The bathroom shot, which NeNe is in charge of, is one of them. Thanks for coming back. Now you have 5 minutes to prepare for the shoot, and you’d better hurry up and get through it. NeNe doesn’t care if nobody else will snap at Star. She will.

Meat Loaf is directing the photos for the men. He took a bunch of shots of a butler, and every shot looks the same, so there really isn’t much to choose from. John Rich thinks he’s looking at an undertaker, so they chop his head off.

John doesn’t want to miss something stupid that will be obvious to Trump, such as a word that’s spelled wrong. Perhaps they shouldn’t have used such big words then, including supersede, one of the most misspelled words in the English language. And there are a lot of words, too. Maybe it’s just me, but I’m pretty sure they have a spellchecker handy in Microsoft Word. If not, there’s probably a free one online.

After the women are done, La Toya reiterates her concern. What they have done has been done before.

The men offer up a presentation of personal experiences. The women go with Star’s idea, which is for each of them to say a word and then the next one says a word and so on. I don’t get it.

One of the execs says the women’s campaign is like an ad placed under a windshield wiper for a sleezy club. The men, meanwhile, have too many words, including some that are not spelled right. They also lack a call to action and are too traditional. Ultimately, they were not pleased with either ad.

Hope thinks Star is the best member of their team. NeNe says Marlee. John Rich will not be naming names.

Neither team did well, which brings us to a question of the lesser of two evils.

For the men, their ads had a good concept and theme, and the pitch was good. However, there was too much copy, the photos were overplayed and not creative, their ads weren’t really pitched, and they did not provide a way to contact the hotels. For the women, the name Trump stands out, and the words were on point. However, the ad was cluttered, the buzzwords were not subtle, the ad was literal rather than conceptual, there were too many photos (many were too small to recognize), there was no emotional connection, the pitch was way too formal and highlighted the Collection rather than the ads, there was a disconnect between the ad and their task directions, and it seemed like it was a flier for a strip club. In summary, two words: Greek tragedy.

We already know the men won the pitch, and after we’ve heard that lengthy list of negatives about the women, it seems safe to assume the men have won the task, or at least not lost it. They’re just lucky Trump was not judging this task because he would have gone to town over the lack of contact information.

As the winning project manager, John Rich will receive $20,000 for the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

Star wants to know whether Trump really needs to fire someone. Yes, yes he does.

Trump thinks the reason for the win is because the men did a better pitch. Star accepts responsibility for the pitch, but she should not be fired.

Marlee continues to argue a point that doesn’t matter. Like Star, she think they did a better job than the men.

NeNe doesn’t want to answer who should be fired. La Toya, however, thinks that Star should be. If she didn’t support anything on that page, it wouldn’t have been there.

Marlee would fire La Toya. Huh? Her argument is that La Toya is the weakest throughout the competition. Don Jr. argues that Hope should be in that same boat. NeNe agrees La Toya’s the weakest link. Trump’s argument is that La Toya has been a star in two tasks.

Star selects La Toya and NeNe to return with her to the boardroom because they are the weakest links. Hope has some damage control to do in the coming weeks, having been labeled as a weak link.

So why’d Star bring NeNe back with her? She wants her to bad mouth La Toya, and she’s not shy about saying that.

La Toya contends that Star is too controlling, and she keeps coming up with bad ideas, whether she’s project manager or not.

Not one to argue with the demands of a team that someone be fired (unless that someone is a dramatic character like Gary Busey), Trump fires La Toya.

The Amazing Race 18 Episode 9

Gary & Mallory placed last in The Amazing Race 18 Episode 8 but were saved by a nonelimination.

Teams depart in the order in which they arrived.

First: Zev & Justin – 3:14AM
Second: Flight Time & Big Easy – 3:25AM
Third: Kent & Vyxsin – 3:39AM
Fourth: Kisha & Jen – 3:49AM
Fifth: Jet & Cord – 3:50AM
Sixth: Gary & Mallory – 4:36AM

The Globetrotters have been sharing information with everybody… except the cowboys. Jet & Cord don’t know if they’re outcasts, but they’re not buddies with anybody either. Kent & Vyxsin realize they’re bratty little kids, but they plan to be positive. Oh, this again.

Teams will now travel by train to Feldkirch, Austria and then cross the border to Schaanwald, Liechtenstein, a real country (with a population of 35,000 people). Everybody will be on the same train.

The road block is to measure the entire length of Liechetenstein using motorized bicycles, a map, and an odometer. It’s less hard than it sounds, as the entire country is only 22km long. Of course, if they screw up, that could be a problem.

As the final team to arrive at the road block, before they can proceed, Gary & Mallory must first complete their speed bump. They will have to create the proper mixture of gas and oil to power a Solex, one of the motorized bikes they will be riding on the road block.

Road block (in order of arrival): Justin, Flight Time, Jen, Jet, Vyxsin, Gary

On the first time through, people are already getting lost. At least they aren’t losing their maps, though, unlike Jen. By the time he arrives at Jet, Gary has 10.75, while Jet is up to 17.5. Those two decide to work together (at least until Jet ditches him), and so do Justin and Jen. Eventually, Gary catches up with a confused Vyxsin and starts working with her instead. Justin and in turn Jen are correct. Jet is way off, guessing 35km, so he’ll have to head back to the start. Flight Time thinks it’s 20, but rather than guessing, he stops Jen and Justin for the answer. Then he sees Gary and gives him the answer. This season is so stupid. These people don’t even have to think for themselves. With Vyxsin also getting the correct answer, that leaves Jet on his own to get the answer right on his second try.

The next stop is Gutenberg Castle, and from there they will travel by bus and train to Zermatt, Switzerland. The first two teams are on the first train, while the next three teams are on the second train. That leaves the cowboys bringing up the rear.

The detour is a choice between cheese or wheeze. In cheese, they will share a pot of cheese fondue. In wheeze, they will deliver 20 pieces of luggage to hotels throughout the city. Food task are typically not a good idea, as multiple teams found out last week (but that’s not stopping them from trying anyway).

Wheeze: Kisha & Jen (switched from cheese), Flight Time & Big Easy, Kent & Vyxsin, Gary & Mallory, Jet & Cord
Cheese: Zev & Justin

Justin immediately wants to bail on the cheese, but Zev insists that they stick around. Kisha’s stomach is upset before they even start, so it’s not long before they change their minds. Meanwhile, Vysin wants Kent to stop whining like a girl. The punishing 55 minute eating task won’t leave them feeling good, but it’s enough to keep Zev & Justin in first. After a couple of hotels, Gary & Mallory ask for a map. Jet & Cord get this on their first stop. Flight Time & Big Easy are cruising along and just about done, but then they are told that Hotel Christiania is not the same as Hotel Garni Christiania, but that doesn’t seem to have much impact on them. Ah, but then they have a second problem. They think they lost two of the luggage tags. Still not enough to put them behind the cowboys.

From there, they will proceed to the fountain at Inderbinen Brunnen. Here they hit the double U-turn. Zev & Justin decline to use it, not wanting to make enemies for no reason. Kisha & Jen have this same line of thinking. Having already U-turned Jaime & Cara, Kent & Vyxsin will have to pass. Gary & Mallory also choose not to U-turn anyone, knowing that the other two teams are battling with each other for last. Flight Time & Big Easy choose to U-turn Jet & Cord, as if the outcome of this leg weren’t obvious to begin with.

The pit stop for this leg of the race is the Moos Restaurant. So the double U-turn’s right before the pit stop? Really? Haven’t they learned their lesson from their previous bad race planning?

First: Zev & Justin (win a trip to Curacao)
Second: Kisha & Jen
Third: Kent & Vyxsin
Fourth: Gary & Mallory
Fifth: Flight Time & Big Easy
Eliminated: Jet & Cord

It’s worth repeating. What a stupid season. Jet & Cord have been eliminated, since most of the other teams got the answers from other people rather than having to actually work for it.

American Idol Season 10 Episode 29

The top 7 performed in American Idol Season 10 Episode 28. Tonight one more will be sent home.

Will Casey’s increasing badness combined with a bit of creepiness be the thing that saves him? Will Haley or Stefano finally get eliminated, or even more surprisingly not be part of the bottom three? Will one of the judges say something worth listening to? Whatever the case, fewer contestants probably means more filler.

Casey Abrams and Jacob Lusk stand up first. Either of them could easily be in danger. Casey is safe. Jacob is in the bottom three.

Lauren Alaina, James Durbin, and Stefano Langone are up next. So basically that means Stefano is in the bottom three.

Haley Reinhart and Scotty McCreery are the last two. Obviously again, this time Haley heads to the bottom three.

That brings it down to a toss up between Jacob, Stefano, and Haley. It wouldn’t be surprising to see any of the three go, and whoever does survive will probably be returning to the bottom again next week. Haley is safe. Steven says nobody deserves to be standing there now. He loves them all. Yeah, we noticed with the lack of helpful critiques he’s given. The person leaving us tonight is Stefano.
