The Celebrity Apprentice 4 Episode 10

Osama bin Laden was killed in The Celebrity Apprentice 4 Episode 9. Oh, and Hope was fired. I think. NBC dropped the ball. There was no reason at all the show had to be interrupted and they couldn’t wait until 11:00 just because the President planned to speak “soon” (aka 11:35).

NeNe acts surprised to find out that Star doesn’t want to talk to her. Realizing that the two can’t work together yet not wanting to fire either of them to resolve the issue that’s not going to be resolved otherwise, Trump opts instead to mix up the teams, swapping Meat Loaf with NeNe. Good luck boys and La Toya.

Their task is to produce a comedy show with three comedians and 50 tickets each (to be sold at whatever price they can get), with the goal of earning the most total money. Jim Kramer will be taking Don Jr.’s place this week.

La Toya will be the project manager for Backbone, while Meat Loaf will be the project manager for ASAP.

NeNe needs some more time to pout, so she disappears from her new team.

John Rich fired most of his ammo during the art task, so his angle this time is to secure a comedian, Jimmy Fallon.

Star gets Tracy Morgan on video. Jim Kramer is not impressed. Why not a personal appearance?

Trump should have gotten rid of NeNe last week instead of Hope. Now he’s in the position of making the call to ask her to not quit. No such luck. NeNe sends La Toya a text saying she quits because she can’t stand this negative environment (which she created for herself).

La Toya doesn’t seem to be making much progress. She’s not comfortable either asking for money or leaving voicemails.

Meat Loaf’s afraid that he’ll lose and his donors, who want to give specifically to his charity, will then end up giving to La Toya instead. They decide to strike preemptively and ask Trump for the okay for each project manager to keep their winnings for their charity. Trump says he can’t promise that because they should be trying to win if that’s the outcome they want.

Jimmy Fallon arrives as planned, and he surprises them with a check for $10k. Oddly enough, he’s a singer/songwriter.

Star and Marlee convince Meat Loaf to continue and stop moping, but regardless his head’s still not in the game. However, when it’s time for him to take the stage, it’s then that he kicks into gear. Marlee also takes the stage to do a routine.

La Toya’s never been this happy on a task, but she’s left thinking: did they raise enough money?

It’s evolving into a lovefest. Without NeNe, everybody is getting along with everybody else.

Trump’s message for NeNe: you’re fired, you’re a quitter, and Star Jones kicked your ass. He more or less admits that Hope shouldn’t have been fired, but what’s done is done.

John Rich has an offer for Meat Loaf. If his team loses, he will personally match whatever he raised.

ASAP raised $102,080. Backbone raised $82,500. As the winning project manager, Meat Loaf will receive the money for his charity, Painted Turtle. He says this is one of the best moments in his life.

La Toya can’t say anything bad about her teammates, and she is unwilling to pick which one was better.

Lil Jon says it should be the project manager or the person who raised the least. In either case, that would be La Toya. As the only one to ever be rehired, La Toya is also the only one to ever be fired twice.

It’s double episode night. First was The Amazing Race, now it’s The Celebrity Apprentice. One task down, one to go.

Onstar will be selling new technology at Best Buy, and their task is to introduce this new market with video. They will be judged on creativity and originality, product integration, and brand messaging.

George returns to take Ivanka’s place.

John Rich will be the project manager for Backbone for a third time. Marlee will be the project manager for ASAP. The winning project manager will receive $20,000 to be matched by Onstar.

John is struggling with a sinus infection or something. He’s hardly able to read and write, let alone think of the script.

Meat Loaf takes the creative lead on his team’s commercial. Marlee goes along with him, realizing his quest to find a donut shop represents a risk. He doesn’t come up with a script, though. They can just improv. Because Star’s in charge of branding, he thinks it’s her responsbility to come up with a script if she wants one.

The men opt to show a soccer mom and a college girl talking about how great it is they can now get Onstar. Lil Jon would like to get a lot of special effects into this shot, which their studio is not really equipped to handle.

Star is the main actor for her team. She can’t remember her lines. Cue cards don’t seem to be helping either.

Don Jr. notices the tension in ASAP and the fact that Meat Loaf seems to be the one in charge.

After Star finishes her informational part of the commercial, it’s time for officer Meat Loaf to save the day by finding Marlee’s stolen car. Now he wants to find his favorite donut shop.

Marlee realizes she took a little too much of a back seat, and she just hopes they have enough to edit.

Backbone arrives to edit first. John bets the other team got too complicated and fell behind. Lil Jon is confident they have plenty of time, but his special effects will push them close to the deadline. When ASAP does arrive, Star sits back and lets the other two do the editing.

The execs felt ASAP had a much more ambitious project but were a bit softer on the message. They didn’t like the the policeman was seen as the butt of a joke rather than a hero. They liked Lil Jon, but thought maybe he came on too strong. That said, they really sold the idea that this is a new way to get Onstar. One miss was someone was driving a car without wearing a seatbelt, which makes the footage unusable.

John thinks the other team missed the main point. The other team is unable to say the guys did a better or worse job… just different.

Backbone wins, putting the Jonz in the final 4. As the winning project manager, John Rich gets $40,000 for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

Marlee would fire Meat Loaf because his working style is different than what they are accustomed to. Star would fire Meat Loaf because of the creative. Meat Loaf would fire Star based on product placement and branding.

When they go out into the hallway, the argument continues. Meat Loaf wants to get into a shouting match with Star, who he calls sweetie, which she takes offense to, though Trump doesn’t understand why.

Somehow, the boardroom ends up turning into a debate about whether it was politically correct for Meat Loaf to call Star sweetie, as if this is accomplishing anything.

Because they lost the task on branding, the person in charge of branding has been fired. That would be Star. Bad decision. She didn’t cost them this task, although she didn’t attempt to salvage it either. With Star being assigned 2 of the 3 criteria for the task, while leaving the commercial in the hands of the other two people, she was an easy target in the event of a loss for any reason.

The Amazing Race 18 Winners

Kent & Vyxsin bickered their way to elimination in The Amazing Race 18 Episode 10.

Teams depart in the order in which they arrived.

First: Flight Time & Big Easy – 7:12AM
Second: Kisha & Jen – 7:15AM
Third: Gary & Mallory – 7:18AM
Fourth: Zev & Justin – 7:31AM

Flight Time & Big Easy hope they don’t screw up again and come in fourth. Kisha & Jen are the only team remaining that has not won a leg. They, too, placed fourth in their last season. Zev & Justin, who have placed first four times this year, were eliminated early based on the loss of their passports, so whatever happens, they’re already well ahead of their prior game.

Heading out of the cold, teams will now fly to the beaches of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. I expected everybody to be on the same flight, but there are two flights, 10 hours apart. The Globetrotters see the other teams getting really bad flights. For the first time this race, the let’s play nice nonsense has died. They pretend they don’t know anything. Their bad acting, however, gives away that Kisha & Jen and Gary & Mallory are about to make a stupid mistake. With that, everybody is indeed on the same flight.

Everybody seems to be under the impression they speak Spanish in Brazil. Close enough I guess.

Getting a slow cab driver puts the Globetrotters half an hour behind as they wait for the next tram.

The road block is to learn and dance the samba and lead their samba troupe on a parade through the streets.

Road block (in order of arrival): Zev, Mallory, Kisha, Big Easy

Zev can’t dance, but he’s stuck doing the road block because he’s only done 4 of them so far (a rule I’m complete fine with because there have been teams who have done quite well on the back of one team member carrying somebody else who was completely useless), though I doubt Justin would be much better anyway. Mallory, however, has danced all her life. Mallory’s just fine on her first try, but this could take Zev a while. His second attempt is no good, as Kisha also passes on her first try. This is enough for the Globetrotters to catch up. Zev finally awkwardly makes his way through. Then, in spite of enjoying dancing, Big Easy is rejected on his first try, but his second attempt is good.

From there, teams go to a salon in Copacabana, where all team members must endure a 15 minute Brazilian waxing session. Bad news for Zev & Justin, two guys who have hair all over their bodies.

The detour is a choice between on the rocks or on the beach. In on the rocks, they must learn to make the most popular drink in Brazil, the caipirinha (100 times). In on the beach, they will have to choose an umbrella with bikini tops and get people to change into and model them, enough to earn 100 reals (about $60). The drinks task seems less risky than relying on sales ability.

On the rocks: Gary & Mallory, Kisha & Jen, Flight Time & Big Easy, Zev & Justin (switched from on the beach)

Having chose a bad detour where nobody was willing to get changed in front of them, Zev & Justin are in big trouble and hoping for a miracle that won’t come.

The pit stop for this leg of the race is the Museum of Contemporary Art.

First: Gary & Mallory (win a cruise along the Mediterranean)
Second: Kisha & Jen
Third: Flight Time & Big Easy
Eliminated: Zev & Justin

With a bad run of luck this leg, Zev & Justin, who have performed well this season for the most part, have been eliminated.

Time for hour two. Teams depart in the order in which they arrived.

First: Gary & Mallory – 8:54AM
Second: Kisha & Jen – 9:05AM
Third: Flight Time & Big Easy – 9:29AM

The final destination city is more than 4000 miles away in Miami, Florida. All teams are on the same flight. After the rush out of the airport, the bad news for Gary & Mallory is that they get a slow cab driver who doesn’t know where he’s going. His idea of calling someone is to look it up on the Internet (while he’s driving). He finally agrees to pull over to let them ask for help.

The road block at the marina is to climb on a forklift, learn how to operate it, and transport a boat to the storage rack without destroying anything. The task seems to be simple enough.

Road block (in order of arrival): Kisha, Flight Time, Gary

The next stop is Key Largo. The second road block is to search the undersea world in a personal submarine to find a clue in a treasure chest. Whoever didn’t do the last road block has to do this one. Searching tasks come down to dumb luck more often than not, but this one doesn’t seem too terribly difficult.

Road block 2 (in order of arrival): Big Easy, Jen, Mallory

The next throughly cryptic clue tells them to go near the mile marker of 4 subtracted from 33. The Globetrotters decide to stop for directions. Kisha & Jen’s cab driver sees them asking, but they don’t want to stop. This pays off and allows them to take the lead by a couple of minutes.

Upon arrival, they must walk across the ocean and find the tallest tree on Horseshoe Island. Then they’ll take a speedboat back to the marina and then travel to Galway Bay Mobile Home Park, a 55+ trailer community. Their task will be to hook a small trailer to the local utilities and set up a trailerhood based on the pictures in a brochure. This seems simple enough until the winds start blowing everything away. The leading teams are still within spitting distance of each other, as the third place team has clearly fallen out of this, but for the first time since the plane they finally see the other teams. Kisha & Jen and Flight Time & Big Easy both get rejected on their first attempt. Incorrect for a second time, the girls realize the only problem is they forgot to put something on the table. With that, their next attempt is correct. The Globetrotters are rejected for a second time, so they go look at what Kisha & Jen did, and they realize their issue is also the table being set incorrectly. Their third attempt is good. Gary & Mallory are correct on what appears to be their first try.

They will now travel to the Seven Mile Bridge and cross the bridge by tricycle. I don’t think these were built with two 6+ foot tall men in mind, or Kisha for that matter. On this ride, the Globetrotters realize there’s no way they’re going to be able to catch up.

The Amazing Race 18 winners are Kisha & Jen. Anticlimactic. The team that’s only won one leg in two seasons ends up winning the whole show, while the two better teams get left behind.

Based on the ratings, it’s safe to assume The Amazing Race will be back for season 19. Please, no more teams that know each other. Nobody was in it to win it, instead just stopping to help each other on tasks designed to be skipped by anybody who felt like skipping them once one team had the answer.

American Idol Season 10 Episode 33

The top 5 performed in American Idol Season 10 Episode 32. Tonight one more will be eliminated.

So the question now is obvious. Haley? Or Jacob?

Lauren Alaina starts a group on the near side of the stage. Jimmy didn’t like her either. Jacob Lusk, who Jimmy did not like, too, joins her.

James Durbin starts a group on the far side of the stage. Jimmy didn’t like him or at least felt he showed weakness. Haley joins James, and Jimmy loves her (for a change) because she followed his bad advice.

Seacrest tells Scotty that last week was a lame fake out to create manufactured drama. Although he was standing there with Casey when Casey was eliminated, he has never actually been in the bottom two. That trend continues, as Scotty is safe (if it matters, Jimmy likes him, mostly). He can now join whichever group he feels is safe. Seacrest, you’ve done this like five times before. It’s been stupid every time. Scotty says no, so he gets walked over the safe group, James and Haley.

The person going home tonight is Jacob.

American Idol Season 10 Episode 32

Casey Abrams was voted out in American Idol Season 10 Episode 31. Again. Tonight the top 5 each perform one song from the 1960s and one current song. Sheryl Crow, who considers Idol to be overcommercialized undermining of art, will be the mentor this week. Here’s hoping she drives to the session in a Ford and partakes in a glass or two of Coke.

James Durbin
Song: Closer to the Edge by 30 Seconds to Mars
Steven: Kicked that song’s ass.
Jennifer: Showing us that you want it.
Randy: Fit well there. Showing us where you could go as an artist.

Jacob Lusk
Song: No Air by Jordin Sparks, feat. Chris Brown
Jennifer: Struggling with what kind of songs you do.

Lauren Alaina
Song: Flat on the Floor by Carrie Underwood
Randy: That is the direction for you. Loved you showing this fun, energetic side.

Jennifer: I heard some growling in there. (Like we didn’t get more than enough of that from Casey.)
Randy: Who knew you could rock the stage like that?
Number: 1-866-IDOLS-04 or 1-866-IDOLS-09

Haley Reinhart
Song: You and I (unreleased) by Lady GaGa
Jennifer: Not sure Jimmy gave you the best advice.

Number: 1-866-IDOLS-05 or 1-866-IDOLS-10

James Durbin
Song: Without You by Harry Nilsson

Steven: As beautiful as it gets.
Jennifer: Heart and soul back it up. You are an artist.

Jacob Lusk
Song: Love Hurts by Nazareth
Steven: Kind of got lost in the song, but what a beautiful delivery.
Jennifer: Really brought it home at the end.
Randy: Redeemed yourself on this one. Might have been the highest note ever sung on this stage.

Lauren Alaina
Song: Unchained Melody by The Righteous Brothers
Jennifer: Beautiful song sang beautifully.
Randy: So happy to see this other side of you.
Steven: Could listen to you all night.

Scotty McCreery
Song: Always on My Mind by Elvis Presley
Jennifer: What a well rounded artist you are.
Randy: Our youngest veteran. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.

Haley Reinhart
Song: The Hostile Rising Sun by The Animals
Randy: The award for the best performance of the night goes to Haley.
Steven: Think you sold everybody tonight.
Jennifer: That song has never been sang like that before.

Survivor: Redemption Island Episode 12

With the producers unlucky enough to not find the amount of quitters NBC packed into The Biggest Loser this season, Survivor: Redemption Island Episode 11 brought us double elimination again. Ralph and Steve were voted out, bringing to an end the pitiful tribe that perhaps could have been dominant if they were less stupid.

Realizing that the jury will consist primarily Zapatera, the three Zapatera guys on Redemption Island hope to be the one to return to the game, thinking they have a slam dunk win should that happen. Unfortunate but probably true that they could win based on bitterness and/or alliances rather than playing the game well.

When they return to camp, Natalie starts crying out of nowhere. Wait. What?

Treemail from Sprint brings them word to come to the duel. The cell phone means videos from home.

Matt, Mike, Ralph, and Steve will participate in the 4-way duel. The winner will be able to spend time with their loved one in person. Each of them has four tiles. In each round, they will toss a ball to break them. The first three to break the tiles stay in the game, and the first to break their tiles wins a visit. Mike breaks his first tile. Matt scores on his second try. Mike scores again. Ralph scores, and so does Steve. Matt scores on his third try. Mike scores for the third time in a row. Ralph scores his second. With 4 in a row, Mike wins the challenge. The other three miss in the fourth round. Matt scores in the next round, and so does Ralph, bringing them to 3 each. Scoring again, Matt stays alive, and so does Ralph. Steve heads to the jury. Mike’s mom Jane comes in. Does he wants to visit her, or does he want to give the visit away to a) the two guys living on the island with him or b) the six contestants who remain in the game? He opts to give the most good to the most people, so the six who kicked him and his tribe out will be the ones getting visits. The most sensible decision he could have made.

Rob’s focus heading into the challenge is to prevent Andrea from winning. They will race to collect a series of puzzle steps, which they must place in order to create a staircase. They can only bring one plank at a time, and if they’re wrong, they’ll have to head back down the stairs. This could become a hell of a workout. Andrea takes the lead. Rob, Grant, and Ashley are behind her. Ashley and Phillip are hopeless. Andrea retains her lead for a while, but she makes a mistake and lets Grant and Rob get ahead of her. Then Rob overtakes Grant, who makes a pair of mistakes to lose the lead. Rob’s got this one as long as he doesn’t collapse on his way up the stairs. Rob crawls his way to the top to win immunity. He’ll live.

With Andrea losing the challenge, the plan is to get rid of her. As always, Phillip’s craziness leads to his name being brought up, though. His story is that his behavior is intentional because that’s his strategy to stay in the game, go to the end… and lose.

Nobody acknowledges that they feel insecure at this moment. Here comes the blindside.

Votes

The unconvincing ploy to pretend Phillip’s going anywhere proved false, and Andrea has been voted off the island.

The Biggest Loser Season 11 Episode 18

In spite of being only an hour long, The Biggest Loser Season 11 Episode 17 was not uneventful. First, Rulon decided to quit, in spite of still weighing a hefty 300+ pounds. Then Kaylee was voted out.

They are greeted by Tim Gunn, which means one thing: it’s makeover week. Needless to say, with a 1 hour show again, they’re going to be skipping through fairy tale themed transformations and “surprise” family visits pretty quickly.

So after the makeover, they head to the beach. Alison thinks they might look better in a brand new Mazda 5. They are on the beach with 50 Mazda shaped sand castles. They’ll have to dig up keys and head a quarter mile down the pier. There is not just one car on offer but two. With five people left (I hadn’t even noticed it was that close to over), that leaves them with a 40% chance of winning a new car, the best odds I ever remember seeing. On her second attempt, Irene wins the first car, which she plans to give to her mom Ana. They’re half done in an hour. It’s beginning to seem like they have been Punk’d as the keys dwindle. With the second to last key, Olivia wins the other car.

Then it’s time for the weigh in. The boys better just hope neither of them fall below the yellow line.

Hannah: 154 pounds (-2, 1.28%)
Jay: 255 pounds (-3, 1.16%)
Austin: 236 pounds (-7, 2.88%)
Irene: 152 pounds (-2, 1.30%)
Olivia: 158 pounds (-4, 2.47%) – over 100 pounds lost, and singing

Fairy godfather Tim Gunn is back with his third gift. No yellow line, so nobody is going home this week. Make the most of your third chance, Jay.

The Celebrity Apprentice 4 Episode 9

Although she never actually did anything wrong, La Toya fell victim to the demands of her team and was eliminated in The Celebrity Apprentice 4 Episode 8.

NeNe’s goal now is to figure out a way to kick Star’s ass.

In Trump’s opinion, the most important thing to looking good is hair. Their task is to produce a hair show for Farouk Systems. They will be judged based on brand messaging, showcasing of products and tools, and overall presentation.

Meat Loaf and Lil Jon play rock, paper, scissors to determine their project manager, Lil Jon. NeNe agrees to be the project manager for the women because Star thinks she should be. They’re already off to a shouting match before the task has even begun, or at least NeNe has a shouting match while Star sits there calmly. In the process, she calls Hope Star’s puppet. I’m sure the executive has a good first impression. Star asks for an explanation. She does not get one.

John asks if anybody has Niki Taylor’s number. Not only is she a supermodel, but she’s also a former teammate of the women. She’s in and can’t believe the girls didn’t call her.

Meanwhile, the women haven’t said a word since NeNe blew up. Now, they’re forced to attempt to work together, awkwardly.

La Toya’s back. She doesn’t know why she was fired (a fair complaint), and she wants a second chance. She does not want to be with the girls, though, and would like to join the guys’ team. Trump says he’ll think about it.

NeNe has decided on a concept of shaking their hair. Getting the feeling from the exec that he wanted to stress that the products are made in America, the men go with feeling good in America.

Star hires some dancers. Marlee says she would be happy to model. Hope is tired of being a model. Bad news then: that is what you do.

Star has no problem helping NeNe in this task. NeNe says she’d better help her because otherwise she’s going to tell Trump. Hope, however, has checked out. It’s hard to blame her, but it’s a good reason for her to be fired, not that I think Trump needs much motivation. She’s served her purpose of being the hot girl, and as we approach the end, he can now cut her loose.

Ivanka sees that the men are relaxed and confident, perhaps too confident. NeNe spends her time telling both Ivanka and Eric that the boardroom will be chaotic.

Once Niki arrives, NeNe goes into paranoia mode, well, worse than before. She doesn’t trust Niki or Hope or anybody else for that matter and is worried about sabotage. Marlee and Hope are also shocked that Niki is working for the men. Why? You didn’t ask her.

In addition to coming herself, Niki has brought three models with her.

The next morning, the hair stylists show up at 8AM, and so do the models. The only thing missing is the women’s team that told them to arrive at that time. They show up half an hour late, and NeNe can’t figure out why it’s an issue. Regardless, they are able to do a rehearsal in as planned. As for the men, Lil Jon feels comfortable with just 10 minutes of rehearsing.

NeNe does not like Hope’s runway presentation. The problem is Hope is a Playboy model, not a fashion model. She’ll tell you that herself. What I want to know is: what the hell did they do to Hope’s hair, and did they think it looked good?

NeNe’s already got her boardroom lineup determined and, for that matter, has for two days: Star and Hope.

The men may have gotten their presentation off to a rough start, but Lil Jon’s energy and their America concept eventually takes off. They have no clue whether it’s good or not because they don’t know anything about hair shows. Regardless, unlike NeNe, Lil Jon’s not even thinking about the boardroom yet.

NeNe says she doesn’t feel like everybody lived up to their full potential. That could have to do with her alienating them from second one. She expected them to just get over her attitude. In her defense, NeNe calls Star a disloyal backstabber. Furthermore, Hope is Star’s puppet on a string. From there, NeNe goes on and on and on and on some more. Wouldn’t it be nice to hear the results of the task before ripping everybody apart?

Lil Jon declines to name a weak player, and it doesn’t matter because they’re not going to lose anyway.

Farouk loved Lil Jon as an MC, thought they did a good job on branding and messaging, and loved the theme of American cities. However, he did not like that they didn’t articulate that the products are safe. For the women, their stylists were informative, and Marlee did well as a model. However, NeNe was a weak MC, there was no real theme or direction, Hope looked awkward in the show, and it seemed like the stylists were running things rather than the team.

It’s pretty obvious what happened here. The men have won. Lil Jon will receive $40,000 for his charity United Methodist Children’s Home. Before they leave, Trump has another surprise: La Toya will be joining them.

Now that she’s back, Trump asks her opinion. Star vs. Nene? She likes NeNe. Well, at least that’s one vote in NeNe’s corner. Hopefully not enough to save her, but I suspect that Hope’s going to be too quiet for his liking and get fired anyway.

20 minutes left. I know what that means. NeNe’s not done running her mouth, no matter how old it already is.

Hope finds it interesting that NeNe’s charity is for domestic violence when she herself is mentally and verbally abusive. That fact was not lost on me either.

Memo to NBC: I don’t need to see Obama taking over the airwaves again. I can read about Osama bin Laden being killed online, rather than during a show I’m trying to watch. And they aren’t even ready yet. The speech is still being written, so they’re going to fill the time until it starts. Ugh. This can’t wait until the news at 11?

20 minutes later, the news anchors continue to ramble, telling us that Obama will make a speech in another 10 minutes or so. What’s left to discuss? You’ve already told the story in great length. If the White House wanted to tell this story, they should have written quicker. I’m off to watch my Tivo’d Undercover Boss. For those of you keeping score at home, the final tally: 50 minutes (not counting the half hour before they interrupted the broadcast that they were telling us a speech was coming soon).

Anyway, it appears that Hope has been fired, not surprisingly, although it’s not as if they’re going to let anybody watch the firing.

Stay tuned to dingoRUE for another live recap of The Celebrity Apprentice 4 Episode 10, which airs Sunday at 9/8c on NBC.

The Amazing Race 18 Episode 10

Jet & Cord were eliminated in The Amazing Race 18 Episode 9 following a boringly predictable turn of events in which only one or two teams actually got the road block answer then proceeded to share with everybody else, leaving only the cowboys having to actually work to get it right.

Teams depart in the order in which they arrived.

First: Zev & Justin – 6:54AM
Second: Kisha & Jen – 7:02AM
Third: Kent & Vyxsin – 8:00AM
Fourth: Gary & Mallory – 8:18AM
Fifth: Flight Time & Big Easy – 8:43AM

With teams being given $1 for this leg of the race, the first stop is the Air Rescue Helicopter Port, with a departure to “the unknown”. Helicopters will take off at 9:15 and will depart in 5 minute intervals. It’s first come, first served. It seems that it will be based on departure order, but Kent & Vyxsin have difficulty getting a cab willing to stop for pink/gothic anime characters, so they end up in fourth.

The detour on the Matterhorn is a choice between search or rescue. In search, they will use an avalanche beacon to locate a training dummy on the glacier. In rescue, one team member has to rapel to rescue a mountaineer, then the other will bring them back to the surface using a pulley system. Typically, search and dig is not a good choice.

Search: Zev & Justin, Gary & Mallory
Rescue: Kisha & Jen, Kent & Vyxsin, Flight Time & Big Easy

The rescue task has the potential to be scary, but that aside, it looks pretty simple and straightforward.

The teams doing that task finish first. Zev & Justin are getting nowhere fast. Gary & Mallory are having more luck, although their problem is they’ve ripped the legs off their dummy. After digging the legs out, they leave Zev & Justin behind in the snow.

From there, they will take a helicopter to a ski resort and take a train back to Zermatt and then to Le Petit Cervin. The first train departs at 11:08, which should be sufficient time to complete a detour. With Zev & Justin still digging, they’re going to be left behind the other four teams by at least 25 minutes.

The road block is to create a Travelocity roaming gnome out of chocolate. Bonus points for creative use of product placement.

Road block (in order of arrival): Vyxsin, Flight Time, Mallory, Jen, Zev

This interesting but poorly thought out road block leads to issues with which chocolate belongs to whom. The teams are putting partially finished molds into the freezer, but there is no system to mark whose each one is. Flight Time’s is missing, so he’ll use the random one he finds instead. Arguing ensues between the Globetrotters and Kent & Vyxsin.

The pit stop for this leg of the race is a Swiss cabin. As usual, we already know which team will place last. Ah, but for a change, there’s some real non-manufactured drama. The clue tells them to make their way on foot. Kent & Vyxsin stand there wondering whether they can run there. They should have done so, rather than taking a cab. Even with the cab, they manage to drop from first to third by the time they arrive. However, they have incurred a 30 minute penalty. This gives them half an hour to bicker. He doesn’t know how they missed it. What he does know is she read it first. He says that, with her attitude, he hopes they’re going home. Me, too.

First: Flight Time & Big Easy (win a trip to Cook Islands)
Second: Kisha & Jen
Third: Gary & Mallory
Fourth: Zev & Justin
Eliminated: Kent & Vyxsin

Following their penalty, Kent & Vyxsin have been eliminated, on a very negative note. Good riddance. I’ve been getting tired of them for weeks.
