Next Great American Band Host, Judges Revealed

Variety revealed the judges and host for American Band, the newest Fox show from the producers of American Idol.

The Goo Goo Dolls’ John Rzeznik is the head judge. Singer/drummer Sheila E will also be on the panel. Ian “Dicko” Dickson, who’s a judge on Australian Idol and also served as the host for Celebrity Survivor, is the third judge. He got his start at Creation Records. Dominic Bowden, host of New Zealand Idol, will host the show.

Pretty formulaic. A mean judge with an accent. A judge who knows what he’s talking about (though in this case both descriptions aren’t of the same person). A babbling female judge sitting in between them. And a pretty boy host.

Next Great American Band will premiere Friday October 19 at 8/7c on Fox (how’d they get stuck with that timeslot?).

Veronica Mars Joins Heroes Season 2

With the recent cancellation of Veronica Mars by The CW, Kristen Bell is available, and NBC didn’t waste any time grabbing her.

Bell will join a rapidly growing Heroes cast in a recurring role as a mysterious woman who could be on any side. In addition to her role on Heroes, Kristen will be the narrator on The CW’s new show, Gossip Girl.

This news follows closely on the heels of the announcement that Janel Parrish from Bratz will be joining the cast as the head cheerleader at Claire’s new school, as well as last week’s announcement that Nichelle Nichols will be the grandmother of a new hero played by Dana Davis.

Star Trek’s Uhura Joins Heroes

Nichelle Nichols is the newest hero to be unveiled. NBC told TVGuide that she will be playing Nana, the New Orleans-based grandmother of Monica (a new hero played by Dana Davis), for a short term role.

Nichols has starred in a range of movies and shows over the past 50 years but is best known for her role as Lt. Uhura in Star Trek. Dana Davis played Felicia Jones on The Nine and alongside Hilary Duff in 2004’s Raise Your Voice.

Meanwhile, Claire will get a new love interest in season 2. “The funny thing about Claire is that she has that beautiful naïveté, but she also has that spitfire quality. She has that sass about her. When she meets West… you will see. It’s teenage angst.”
