The Vampire Diaries Season 1 Episode 6

Damon managed to escape from his cell in The Vampire Diaries Season 1 Episode 5, and Elena discovered that something’s not quite right about Stefan.

We pick up where we left off. Elena’s question to Stefan: what are you? He doesn’t really answer because she already knows. Is she ready for everything she knows to change? Okay, then. He’s a vampire. This response is enough to get her to run away. When he corners her, he tells her he’s innocent and that Damon’s the killer, but begs her not to tell anybody because knowing is dangerous.

Back to Damon chowing down on Vicki. He has a problem. Where’s his ring? He’ll be doing just fine until the sun comes up.

Sunlight aside, Stefan dismisses all the legends about vampires as merely myths. There are no other vampires in town, not any more. Once upon a time, the town was aware of vampires, and it didn’t end well for them. Elena can’t promise that she won’t tell anybody, so Stefan asks her to spend the day with him.

The sheriff and her guys show up at the scene of the cemetery in Damon’s aftermath of burnt corpses. The story that the news will run: drug deal gone bad. Vicki is not amongst the dead because Damon dragged her back home, where he has decided to let her drink from him and turn her into his new girl toy.

Stefan and Elena go to the middle of nowhere, or a place he says used to be his home, back in 1864 when he first turned 17 (and when he first met Katherine).

Going back to the past, we find out why Stefan turned into a vampire shortly after he met Katherine. That reason being that she herself was a vampire. Being a vampire, she was able to control both Stefan’s and Damon’s minds, forcing each of them to keep their relationship with her a secret. Forever. Or at least until her untimely burning at the hands of an angry mob.

The reason they’ve headed to Stefan’s childhood home is because that’s where the ring is. Either he gives Damon back his ring, or Elena’s in danger.

Damon’s not looking for love. It’s painful, pointless, and overrated, even if he’s still not over Katherine 145 years later. After listening to Vicki whine for a while, he’s decided she is so damaged and does not have one hint of self esteem. He thinks he knows what can help her. Death. Then he snaps her neck. Well, that was interesting. After she dies, Vicki wakes up and is told that now she has to feed to complete the process. Perhaps she should stop by Jeremy’s house. She’s got two choices: feed on human blood or die. Damon shows up to look for Stefan. He may come in, seeing as he’s been invited and all. For future reference, Elena may consider being careful who she invites in the house.

Vicki’s starting to remember and runs away, but Stefan can track her (for that matter, so can Logan with the watch he grabbed from Jeremy). He informs her that she’s got a choice to make. Then he gets shot by Logan with a wooden bullet, which won’t kill him but will stun him. Neither Vicki nor Damon want to see him get a stake shoved through him, though, so Damon comes to his rescue. As Damon’s grabbing his ring back from Stefan, Vicki has found a target to feed on, Logan. Then Damon grabs the watch as Vicki flees.

After learning that Vicki has become a vampire, Elena tells Stefan she’ll keep his secret, but she can’t be with him.

Heroes Season 4 Episode 5

In Heroes Season 4 Episode 4, Hiro spent his time trying to figure out how to save someone’s life, only to end up disappearing when he was done. Peter, likewise, found himself trying to save lives, while his brother Nathan found himself buried underground.

Sylar has managed to dig himself up from under the ground.

Samuel plans to have a full table by day’s end, refilling his brother’s empty seat.

Claire’s happy to have a normal life for a change. Apparently, jumping out the window and popping her bones back into place are part of that normal life. While she’s saying that, somebody invites her to join a sorority, as if that’s going to make her life more normal.

Sylar has been captured. They are under the impression they can hold him against his will. That should last about as long as he is unable to remember his name or anything else. Dr. Gibson doesn’t want to label him crazy just yet. She’ll take it a step further and unlock his handcuffs, asking to be left alone with him. She promises to put the pieces together and help him figure out who he is. This is not something that sounds like a wise idea.

Speaking of crazy, Emma, the woman who sees sounds as colors, is told that maybe she’s got hysterical blindness. As she’s walking home, she is unable to stop seeing colors, right into the path of a speeding bus, only to be pushed out of the way by Peter in his obsessive saving people job. This act of heroism does not generate a thank you for Peter. What it does is strip away his super speed. In return, he’s got this strange new seeing colors power with questionable usefulness.

Lydia wants to know who the new family member is. Samuel doesn’t know the answer to that question. He just has a feeling. They’ll have to wait and see who joins them first.

The more Claire gets to know her new roommate, the less she wants to know her. Something’s not quite right about this girl.

When he starts to concentrate, Sylar is distracted. The clock on the wall is slower than the doctor’s wristwatch.

Returning to the hospital, Peter runs into Emma again, and it’s there that he realizes she’s deaf. He explains to her about people with abilities, something she knows nothing about. She tells him he’s crazy, as if seeing sounds is normal.

Claire, having visited the sorority house for a get to know you speed dating round with the sisters earlier, has returned only to have to save one of the women from getting whacked by Gretchen.

Dr. Gibson has been sent home. Now it’s time for the bad cop to step in and tell him he’s a watchmaker from Queens who murdered his own mother. The plan now is to get a confession out of him and then throw him down a hole forever. Good luck with that. Feeling threatened, Sylar inadvertently uses his power to throw the guy through the wall. When she gets into her car, Dr. Gibson finds out she’s dealing with a murderer. Nonetheless, an escaped Sylar runs toward her asking for help. She promised.

Claire’s afraid Gretchen’s a wee bit of a stalker, a dangerous one at that. She’s not stalking her because she’s trying to kill her (like Annie). Rather, she’s stalking her because she wants to jump her bones, as if that will make her feel any better. Before they can swap spit any further, the sorority shows up to invite them to join.

It turns out the sorority girl, Rebecca, has been sent to Claire by her uncle Samuel. Their goal is to push others away and isolate Claire. She would be the one who tried to hit the other girl and who caused Gretchen’s computer to turn on and let Claire know that she’s been stalking her. She’s also the one who pushed Annie out the window and left her suicide note afterward. It’s true there was no note, at least not until after Claire fled the room.

Sylar insists he’s not a killer. Dr. Gibson wants him to turn himself in and letting the police figure things out. Because that went so swimmingly before when they attempted to “interrogate” him. Her hope is that he will turn himself in, but he won’t be doing that once he gets shot multiple times. Not that it’ll kill him. Since that didn’t work, she tells him to run.

Hiro has finally reappeared, and he’s greeted by a familiar face, Peter. Then he collapses.

Emma has found out there’s more to her power than meets the eye. She can use it as an offensive weapon. Now that could be useful.

In his escape, Sylar happens upon a carnival, where he’s greeted by Samuel, who tells him he’s home.

Southland Cancelled

Well, this is different. Cancellations are normally more predictable than this. Southland, which had been scheduled to premiere in two weeks, has now been cancelled.

The show, which had been a ratings success for NBC when it premiered earlier this year, fell quite noticeably as the season ticked on, but still finished on a positive note, particularly as compared to most NBC fare.

Regardless, it was renewed for a second season, although it was stuck in the Friday night deathslot. With Leno filling up 5 hours of the network’s schedule, there’s less need to keep as many shows alive, although it does leave me wondering what NBC’s going to do in a year when they have to cancel Leno.

The Vampire Diaries Season 1 Episode 5

The brothers went to the annual founders’ party, where Damon got drugged by Stefan in The Vampire Diaries Season 1 Episode 4. Although they have their identities mostly concealed, there are some in the town who are on to them and know that the vampires must be back.

Stefan knows exactly what will happen to his brother if he doesn’t feed on blood. He’ll become a living corpse. That’s just fine with Stefan. In 50 years, they can reevaluate.

Elena catches Vicki coming out of the bathroom. Aunt Jenna is unconcerned. Jeremy could be doing worse things. He normally is.

Caroline’s trying to recall what happened, but there are holes in her memory lately.

Stefan shows up at school. He tells Elena he was dealing with Damon. For 4 days.

Although Elena’s started to turn on Stefan, which I get the sense is going to be a recurring theme for quite some time, Matt’s come around and is reluctantly supporting him. Showing up an hour late because he’s dealing with Zach almost getting killed by Damon is not making a case for Stefan, nor is his continued vagueness. Their discussion is stopped by a guy who knows him and is amazed he hasn’t aged a day.

The sheriff is having no luck tracking down the vampires. They’re assuming that they’re looking for somebody who only comes out at night. That would be a bad assumption.

Stefan agrees to share some with Elena, starting with the history of Katherine.

Jeremy feels like he and Vicki are always getting high. Pretty much because they are. She’s enjoying it, so his protests fall on deaf ears.

When she slices her finger while cooking, Elena believes her paranoia has turned into hallucinations. What’s wrong with his face? Whatever it is, she’ll have to wait to find out, probably until the end of the season.

Damon’s only hope is that he will be able to control Caroline, presumably using the necklace he was going to give her, which she has since found and decided to wear. That crow will be following her around for a while.

At the car wash, Bonnie gets upset and proceeds to make a hose go out of control.

Jenna’s surprised to be having a good time with Logan, the guy who’s a news reporter by day and a vampire hunter by night.

Elena asks the guy from last night where he saw Stefan before. She wouldn’t know. It was years ago. When was this anyway? Early June. 1953.

Since they can’t hang out in his room all the time, Vicki takes Jeremy to her other favorite party place. The cemetery.

Elena wants a favor from Logan. She needs access to old news stories from the 1950s. It’s for a way past due report.

Caroline shows up at Damon’s cell. He’d like her to let him out, but she remembers that he bit her. Regardless, she’s gonna open the door. Zach shows up just in time get his neck snapped and have the door busted open. It’s good for Caroline that Damon does not have his ring because it means he cannot chase her out into the sun.

Bonnie’s powers are starting to get a little bit more impressive. When she gets upset, she starts a fire, one which lights a car in a blaze. Stefan saw, and he’s not having much difficulty believing it, but nobody else knows.

Elena shows up at the news station to look for an incident from 1953 at the old Salvatore boarding house. Logan’s happy to help, as long as he gets a good word in with Jenna. Matt warns Stefan that she won’t stop until she figures it out because she’s big on trust. Her search reveals a news clip with Stefan lurking in the background. If it’s not him, it probably should be.

Jeremy and Vicki’s visit to the cemetery turns out surprisingly less joyful than they had anticipated. He should go home instead of making her feel like crap by not letting her take prescription pills from his house.

When he gets his chance alone in Jeremy’s room, Logan does some searching and locates the watch.

Vicki’s wasting her life in the cemetery when she runs into a guy who doesn’t look good. He’ll be just fine when he bites her. She might want to look into getting used to that cemetery.

Elena has just one question for Stefan. What are you?

Heroes Season 4 Episode 4

Parkman stopped fighting himself/Sylar in Heroes Season 4 Episode 3, taking his frustrations out on an innocent little drug dealer. Samuel, who tricked Peter into believing he was one of the victims he’d saved, went to his childhood home and then destroyed it when they decided to be rich snobs.

Dial a Hero gets a call from a jumper. Hiro came to rescue him by sneaking up on him and scaring him half to death. The guy was fired for inappropriate behavior. He drank too much sake and copied his… They talk for a while before the guy jumps.

Peter comes to visit Noah to show him his compass tattoo. It’s no longer there, though.

Hiro said yes to giving Kimiko away at her and Ando’s wedding. Hiro’s not interested in talking about that when Ando brings it up. Instead, he wants to talk about how he stopped Tadashi from copying his butt, saving his job and life. Only not really. He gets a call from Tadashi up on the roof and scares him half to death again. Hiro prevented what happened at the year end party. Too bad he didn’t stop him from doing it at the Emperor’s birthday celebration. Some people are just destined to get drunk and make fools of themselves.

Nathan’s got a cool new power. Actually, he’s got a lot of them. A new power every day. He’s also seeing memories, but not exactly his memories (the memories are the history of an object he touches).

Claire suggests that her dad get a job like a normal father. If only he were willing to take her seriously.

Nathan is trying to figure out what actually happened to an ex named Kelly. Based on his new power, he believes that there’s more to the story than anybody’s figured out. He eventually remembers a bloody incident in the pool. Seeing as he was there and inadvertently caused it, he wants to know why he can’t remember it. The answer: his mother took care of it, as he suspected.

HRG doesn’t remember actually having helped anybody, but Claire can name one. Her.

Hiro keeps trying to save Tadashi. He continues to fail. He knows the drill. Answer the phone. “Tadashi? You on the roof? Be right there.” This time, he says that nobody copies their butt 47 different ways without wanting to get fired. His advice is to find something he likes, then it won’t feel like work. What makes Hiro such an expert? He’s dying. Tadashi will always have a friend waiting for him in Heaven. That’s enough to convince him to not jump for a change. Hiro, as well, has learned a lesson. He can’t keep secrets from those he loves, so he tells his sister the truth. Then he disappears.

Tracy’s got her old job back with Governor Malden. So why’s she hanging around there talking to Noah? His suggestion to her is that she has to remember who she was to figure out who she wants to be. She can’t quit her job because so many people would kill for it. However, she’d like for it to be more, the ability to set agendas and make a difference in people’s lives.

While holding for someone in the homicide division, Nathan gets drugged from behind.

Samuel’s hungry with power and looking for more people to bring into the group. Lydia shows him what he needs to see. Noah might have changed his mind and may be interested in them.

Nathan’s dumped off and shot. Well, that’s one way to solve this problem I guess. Milly might have wanted to considered his invincibility (or that of Sylar’s) before going down this path.

The Vampire Diaries Season 1 Episode 4

Stefan wanted to prove that Damon had some humanity left in him in The Vampire Diaries Season 1 Episode 3, but when his brother killed the coach for no good reason, that plan didn’t seem to have worked, no matter how much he still loves Katherine.

Elena wakes up and sees a news report of her death, then she sees Damon and panics. It’s a dream alright, Stefan’s dream.

Damon’s covered his tracks. They caught the animal who has been doing all that attacking. It was a mountain lion. A big one.

Elena invites Stefan to the founders’ party. Through his mind control, Damon also gets an invite from Caroline. He tells her she’s got to get rid of that dress she’s wearing, and when she takes it off, she’s covered in bruises. She’s in no danger of being turned into a vampire, though, at least not at this point. So is he going to kill her? No. Not yet.

Zach has a plan to get rid of Damon, a plan he’s growing in his basement. If he ingests that herb, it will weaken him. That’s their only hope since Stefan refuses to drink human blood.

Bonnie got Caroline to spill about Katherine, which Bonnie in turn is revealing to Elena. According to Damon, Katherine chose him, which caused Stefan to go mad and do horrible things.

Stefan’s plan of spiking a drink with vervain fails to catch his brother off guard. Now Damon has to go to the party angry. This won’t end well. Stefan is pleased with how things went, though, because Damon won’t expect him to try again so soon.

At the party, Elena is looking at a guest list from the original party long ago. Interestingly, there’s someone named Damon Salvatore on the list. Oh, yeah, Stefan Salvatore, too.

At Damon’s insistence, Caroline asks Stefan to dance, leaving Damon free to chat with Elena. He tells the story of how Katherine died, at the battle of Willow Creek. Whatever he may be planning, he’s not going to get anywhere with Elena tonight.

Ty’s invited Vicki to the party, where he hides out all night so that he doesn’t have to introduce the girl from the wrong side of the tracks to his parents.

Bonnie’s able to light a candle with her mind. As offensive powers go, that’s not one.

Logan, the guy from the TV news, is looking to patch things up with aunt Jenna. Since she hates his guts, that may take some work.

Elena wants Stefan to open up, but he doesn’t want to. So now they’re mad at each other again. Damon may not be making any progress, but he’s making a good effort at driving a wedge between them.

Damon grabs a crystal, one he put there a long time ago. Since it’s his, it’s not stealing, even if he is taking it from somebody else’s house.

Jenna reluctantly agrees to go to lunch with Logan. He says he’s growed up now and ready for a second chance.

After watching Ty’s mom yell at the help about unlit candles, Bonnie tries to light one, inadvertently lighting all of them instead. Now that’s a little more impressive.

While they’re in the bathroom, Elena finds out why Caroline’s always wearing scarves. She suspects Damon, so she threatens to turn him into Caroline’s mom, the sheriff. Then she goes to Stefan, who says he’s handling it. She’s just gonna have to trust him.

Jeremy’s on again off again relationship with Vicki appears to be on again, as she goes to see him after walking out of the party.

After she gets busted, Damon decides he’s so over Caroline. Upon drinking her, he realizes he’s made a mistake. She’s been spiked with vervain. Stefan’s captured himself a deadly beast, and all is well in Mystic Falls.

The rest of the town may be in the dark, but the cops know they’re dealing with vampires, which means they need to get the Gilbert watch, the one Elena’ given to Jeremy because he pouted about her giving it away (since it was supposed to go to the first born son).

Heroes Season 4 Episode 3

In her effort to discover the truth about an apparent suicide, Claire jumped out her window in Heroes Season 4 Episode 2. Then she proceeded to push her insides back to the inside, which was not lost on her new friend Gretchen, who saw the whole thing.

Samuel thinks he’s found someone to fill Joseph’s shoes.

Peter Petrelli’s been served. He might need to be more careful when he’s saving people.

Parkman just got his 30 day sobriety chip, but he slipped and used. Sylar’s tired of being stuck in this hell. It’s a lot more boring than the actual hell. However, Parkman’s convinced that Sylar has no power, or so he says. He and his partner are on a stakeout and bust into the suspects house, where the powerless Sylar proceeds with his mind games. Strangely enough, though, Sylar warns him that the drug dealer’s in the closet and has a gun, which is enough to convince Parkman to get on the floor, escaping his fate of being riddled with bullets.

Claire greets her dad with a “What are you doing here?” The answer to that is her roommate Annie’s death. She plays it all off as just an adjustment to college. Everything’s going just fine. When she’s getting ready to go out to eat with him, she heads to the bathroom, where she meets up with Gretchen. Whatever she thought she saw, she didn’t see. There was no hurling out a window or snapping of bones back into place. Gretchen follows her back into her room, where Noah kindly invites her to eat.

Parkman’s searching for the drugs, which is proving to be futile. Sylar continues to try to get him to use his abilities, which he refuses to do. As long as Sylar’s stuck inside Matt, he may as well be useful. He always thought he would make an excellent cop. Perhaps there’s something that doesn’t fit in the picture, like the stuffed rabbit on the floor. The house is used for something a lot worse than they thought.

Peter goes to meet the guy he saved. The one who sued him. Welcome to America. Only he’s greeted by Samuel, someone he knows he never met before. With that, he’s just going to let the lawyers handle it.

While there, he meets a woman who accidentally drops a coffee mug and sees an Aurora Borealis ink blot coming from it when it breaks. The nurse suggests that maybe, because she’s deaf, she’s seeing sounds.

At lunch, Gretchen says she’s going to change her major to study the human body, such as how some girl she saw was unable to feel pain. HRG may have to come out of retirement.

Back to Parkman and the bunny and being insulted by Sylar. In his searching, he finds a ransom note.

HRG’s plan is to erase Gretchen’s memory. Claire’s plan is, well, she doesn’t have one, but she intends to think of one.

Not getting anywhere with the suspect, Parkman gives into temptation and uses his power to locate the girl underneath the stairs. The dead girl underneath the stairs. Only problem is there is no girl there, dead or otherwise. There’s no ransom note either. Not even a rabbit. Sylar used his own power against him.

A theory’s floating around that Peter has caused the accidents so that he can get the glory from them.

When he gets home, Peter goes straight to the newspaper clipping, one that’s been modified by Samuel to make it appear as if he was on the bus.

Back at the dorms, Claire tells Gretchen to go ahead and ask her anything.

With the modified newspaper photo in mind, Peter returns to Samuel, who agrees to drop the lawsuit after they chat. When they’re done, Samuel returns home, to the place where his parents were the butler and maid. His pleas of how his brother just died and he’d like to look around fall on deaf ears. They’re in the middle of a dinner party and don’t want to be disturbed.

Claire and Gretchen continue their bonding, which includes Claire handing over a pair of scissors and letting Gretchen slice her with it. Then Claire suggests being roommates. Gretchen considers this a step up from the boring girl who smells like pickles.

Parkman’s partner lets him know that attacking the criminal who didn’t do anything (more than what he’s suspected of doing anyway) will ruin his life. So Parkman uses mind control to convince his partner that it was all just self defense. Sylar is proud of him. Today is the first day of the rest of his life.

Peter shows up at a sink hole. Dinner party’s over. Then he looks at his arm and sees he’s got one of those creepy compasses on it.

Stay tuned to dingoRUE for another live recap of Heroes Season 4 Episode 4 Acceptance, which airs Monday at 8/7c on NBC.

The Beautiful Life Cancelled

Well, that lasted about a week. The CW has cancelled its DOA new series The Beautiful Life: TBL after just two episodes. The show’s first episode had just 1.3 million viewers, fading to 1.1 million for its second outing. If they really want to give Ashton a show, why not give Beauty and the Geek another shot?

At least The CW still has The Vampire Diaries and, well, that’s about it at this point. Monday nights are limping along, Tuesdays are fairing even worse (with Melrose Place on life support out of the gates), and even the previously dependable Top Model is struggling, now down under 3 million viewers.
