Big Brother 10 Episode 20

During his endurance competition victory in Big Brother 10 Episode 19, Dan made one of the craziest deals in the history of the show, agreeing to nominate whoever Ollie wanted. Staying true to his word, Dan nominated his ally Memphis, alongside his nemesis Jerry.

Ollie believes his hands are clean. Dan believes the same thing. Neither is correct.

Dan tells Memphis that, despite having gone along with the plan thus far, he has no intention of living up to the agreement of letting Ollie pick the replacement nominee for a veto. Shouldn’t have offered that part of the deal then. That’s a target on his back just waiting to happen.

America’s vote is for a phone call from home. This leads to much tears. Jerry wins and gets to speak to his family, including his sick wife. As hated as Jerry is, I’m not surprised by this because it typically goes to the family person (except the time the dumb blonde was allowed to discuss whether Britney Spears had her baby).

Everybody feels threatened by Michelle, especially since Ollie’s made it so obvious they’re in an alliance now.

Dan picks Renny for veto.
Ollie picks Keesha.
Jerry picks Michelle (houseguest’s choice).

The players get in their spacesuits and land on planet veto. Michelle, Dan, and Keesha are in race 1. Memphis, Jerry, and Renny are in race 2. They must glide back and forth above the ground collecting puzzle pieces, then solve the puzzle, being careful of the extra puzzle pieces. Keesha wins race 1. Memphis is doing this how it should be done, getting across without even needing to use his hands on the cable, and he wins the second race. Keesha and Memphis go head to head with a new puzzle. Memphis wins this race and the power of veto.

Ollie’s giddy. He believes he’s safe and that Dan is willing to piss off his allies by nominating (another) one of them.

Ollie tells Dan he wants Keesha to go up. So now he’s revealed both his closest ally and his two biggest enemies. Keep a little something to yourself, dude.

Dan’s still hoping to remove some of the target he’s put on his back. He wants to play a game at veto, and he wants to get each person at the ceremony to say another person’s name for who they want as the replacement. He sets it up beforehand and hopes it will go through according to plan when they actually hold the ceremony. Michelle says Keesha. Ollie agrees to Renny after Dan badgers him. Keesha’s okay saying Michelle. Renny reluctantly agrees to say Ollie, but only after Dan tells her that Ollie will be saying her name.

As expected, Memphis will be removing himself from the block. Dan goes through with his plan, turning it back to the houseguests. He asks everybody what they think and gives them a warning to play by his rules or else. The houseguests all answer as they had previously. Pretty pointless, except that he did manage to drive a wedge between Renny and Ollie.

When all’s said and done, Dan goes against his deal and nominates Michelle in Memphis’ place. I’m not real sure what difference it makes whether Memphis or Keesha is up on the block since he’s still got the votes either way. Unless he really just doesn’t trust Memphis.

Kara DioGuardi Joins American Idol as a Judge

I’m attempting to come up with another adjective to describe this story, but I keep going back to pointless. Apparently, what we were missing the last 7 seasons was a fourth judge. Songwriter Kara DioGuardi has joined Paula Abdul, Simon Cowell, and Randy Jackson at the judges’ table.

“We are turning the heat up on ‘Idol’ this year and are thrilled to welcome Kara to the judges’ table,” said creator and executive producer Simon Fuller. “She is a smart, sassy lady, and one of America’s most successful songwriters. We know she will bring a new level of energy and excitement to the show.”

“We had originally intended for American Idol to have four judges,” said executive producer Cecile Frot-Coutaz. “We’ve seen from our international series that having a fourth judge creates a dynamic that benefits both the contestants and the viewers.”

Big Brother 10 Episode 19

Following April’s eviction from the house, we left off in Big Brother 10 Episode 18 at the start of an endurance HOH competition.

It’s like a carnival ride. The contestants are being swung up and down and back and forth into a wall. Jerry is the first one out after 41 minutes. Keesha falls at 1 hour 5 minutes. In addition to not being able to feel their legs, the rain is making for a cold competition. Michelle drops at 1 hour 59 minutes. Memphis hangs in for quite a while longer but drops at 3 hours 19 minutes, leaving Dan and Ollie to fight for HOH.

Ollie’s desperate for this after what happened with April. Meanwhile, Dan had been playing the Dr. Will game until Renny’s HOH, but he doesn’t trust Ollie either. Let the deal making begin. Problem is neither guy wants to step down. Dan swears on his girlfriend that Ollie’s safe, but he’s not interested. Dan wants to make it look like he’s still weak, even if he wins HOH. He makes another deal. Dan picks one nomination, excluding the two people Ollie wants safe. Ollie calls all the shots after that. Ollie takes the deal, and Dan wins HOH. He knows it’s a crap deal, but he’s confident it will work out nonetheless.

When Dan goes to his HOH unveiling, he’s still thinking strategy, turning on some tears to make the other houseguests think he’s a weak player.

Ollie lets Dan know his target: Memphis. So much for the secret alliance. This is a genius move if it works because it throws anyone off the scent of their alliance, but it’s dog dumb if Memphis ends up going home.

Dan knows he needs two votes to keep Memphis safe. Keesha’s an easy vote. The problem is Renny really can’t be trusted. She lets him know that Memphis can’t be trusted, but she seems to be comfortable with bringing Memphis to the final four and then cutting him.

Memphis emphasizes it’s a stupid deal. Dan realizes it’s a stupid deal but just wonders whether it’s worth the risk.

Jerry tells us that his approach doesn’t involve sour grapes.

Nominations
Ollie is safe.
Renny is safe.
Keesha is safe.
Michelle is safe.

As planned, Jerry and Memphis have been nominated for eviction. This is one of the craziest nominations ever, but Dan’s positioned himself nicely in the house regardless of what happens. The ironic thing is that his only real danger now is his ally, who’s pissed off that he nominated him.

BB10 Spoilers

Big Brother 10 Episode 18

Dan seemed to have some interest in fixing the nominations in Big Brother 10 Episode 17, but after some threats from Renny, he decided not to use the power of veto and left April and Jerry on the block.

Votes
Keesha-April
Memphis-April
Ollie-Jerry
Dan-April
Michelle-April

By a vote of 4-1, April has been evicted from the Big Brother house. Ollie will apparently be moving to Arizona where April lives after the show, but they say it’s not to be together.

The HOH competition is an endurance competition. The last person hanging on their jungle vine will become HOH.

Julie tells us that next week will be a special double eviction episode.

Jason Mesnick Is The Bachelor 13

Following his rejection by DeAnna after having almost proposed to her in the finale of The Bachelorette 4, Jason Mesnick became the obvious choice for the next season of The Bachelor. It should come as no surprise to a lot of of people that he has indeed been selected as the choice for The Bachelor 13. The show will air in January 2009, and ABC is currently searching for women who want a shot with him.

Big Brother 10 Episode 17

Renny’s HOH win was followed by nominations of April and Jerry in Big Brother 10 Episode 16. I don’t get the sense anybody would miss either of them very much.

Nobody thinks Renny made the right move. Dan believes she may have a secret deal with Ollie. Ollie’s planning to use veto and take April off so that Renny, whose target is April, wastes her time as HOH. Keesha, Memphis, and Dan know they have to fight for veto. Renny tells Keesha that she likes Ollie and doesn’t want to put him up.

Renny chooses Dan at random for veto.
April chooses Keesha.
Jerry chooses Ollie.

April and Ollie are jumping up and down. Everybody else panics and gets angry. They think Renny’s screwing them on purpose.

The backyard is haunted. Ollie’s most scared by the crows. They must examine all of the items for 5 minutes. Then they have to answer the amounts in questions afterward. Players can stay or fold. If they stay, they get a point if they’re closest, but they get eliminated if they’re furthest. Whoever folds continues to the next round but without any points. Ollie, Dan, April, and Keesha fold on the first question. Jerry is closest, so Renny’s eliminated. Ollie and Dan fold on the second question. Jerry scores another point, while April is eliminated. Jerry folds on the third question, though it turns out he was closest. Dan scores a point, but Keesha is eliminated. Ollie and Jerry fold on the next question. Dan scores a second point by default. Nobody folds on this last question. Dan is closest and wins the power of veto. Quite a change in strategy for the guy who’s been playing the role of weak player for so long (quite successfully). His mistrust for Renny is pretty apparent.

April believes she can convince Dan to use the veto on her. Why? Just… why? She hopes to be able to bribe him with the $5k in gold bars plus a promise to not nominate him next week. Dan’s not even thinking anything along those lines. His only consideration is if he should use the veto to save Jerry and force Renny’s hand so she will make the nominations she should have made in the first place. Jerry, having called Dan Judas last week, promises to be loyal to whoever keeps him around this week. Memphis doesn’t trust Renny enough to believe she won’t put him up.

Dan asks Renny if she made a deal with Ollie. She denies any deal, but she again repeats that she likes Ollie. She also doesn’t give any indication that she’d put him up if Jerry were taken off the block.

Dan has decided not to use the veto. He uses the ceremony to bring up the money he was offered. April thinks she’s going home and plans to be a total bitch (apparently, this is a change).
