Survivor: Kaoh Rong Episode 9

Irritated that they were being accused of forming an alliance, the women proceeded to do just that in Survivor: Kaoh Rong Episode 8 and joined together to eliminate Nick.

Scot has a plan to get even. Take away tools. His goal is to make people miserable. Jason is fully onboard with this. How unexpected to see the big bullies acting like big bullies. It’s not as if they can rely on their minds to come up with a way back into the game. Tai at least is above this.

The women figure out how to open a coconut without any tools. This makes Scot angry because it took them 20 minutes to outsmart him. So he dumps water on the fire, which they then rebuild.

For the reward challenge, they will work together to separate themselves from being tied together, then toss some bags to knock over targets. Reward is Chinese food. Joe volunteers to sit out. Tai, Jason, and Scot form their own team, and Julia offers to join them. As the odd man out, Joe votes for the girls to win, so he will either join them if they win or get nothing, a personal decision but perhaps not a smart one. The women fall behind on the rope task, and they never catch up.

Julia’s choice at the challenge is not lost on anyone. She may not have necessarily flipped, but she’s weighing her options. Seeing this, the other girls have a new target in mind.

Not to be outdone, that night Tai puts out the fire, too. He doesn’t get any blame for it, though. The women just assume it was Scot. After that, Debbie flat out refuses to vote for Julia and wants Scot gone instead.

The immunity challenge requires them to stack blocks like dominoes, spacing them just right so they can hit a gong on the other side. As most people fall apart around her, Michele is going slow and steady, but her stack stops a couple shy of the target. Then Debbie unsuccessfully tries. So does Jason. Debbie again. On her first attempt, Julia wins immunity.

That pretty much forces their hands. Like it or not, they can’t get rid of Julia now.

Debbie proposes a split vote. Aubry is afraid because she is saying this plan in front of Julia, which if she flips would cause whoever the others want to go home. Of course, Julia reveals this plan to the other side.

Because Debbie keeps talking without apparently thinking, Cydney and Aubry discuss getting rid of her instead. Joe refuses. Ironically, what they were so upset about is that Debbie was telling Julia her plan. So they tell her theirs. I do not understand how you arrive at this conclusion. Either you trust Julia to know information, or you don’t.

At Tribal Council, Scot reveals that Tai has an idol, and then Jason reveals his. Once again, this is all news to Julia, who thinks she is playing both sides, though neither side actually wants her for anything more than a temporary vote.

Following the vote, Jason hands his idol to Tai.

The Amazing Race 28 Episode 7

Since it was a to be continued leg, aside from perhaps Brodie & Kurt winning the express pass, nothing of much consequence happened in The Amazing Race 28 Episode 6.

All teams must take the midnight train to Tbilisi, Georgia.

The detour is a choice between clean and string. In clean, teams must clean a giant clay wine pot. In string, teams must make churchkhela candy.

String: Brodie & Kurt, Zach & Rachel, Burnie & Ashley, Scott & Blair
Clean: Sheri & Cole, Tyler & Korey (switched from string), Dana & Matt (switched from string to clean to string to clean)

There are only four candy stations, which is a problem for all the trailing teams who wanted to do string. Dana & Matt give up their spot because they don’t want to wait around, which convinces Scott & Blair to stick around and basically guarantee themselves last place, or so it seems.

Until Dana & Matt drive and drive and eventually give up and tell their cab driver to take them back to where they started. Then Tyler & Korey quit the task after two teams have finished and go to the other one. Meeting them on the way there and hearing how hard it is, Dana & Matt switch again, at this point still not having attempted to do any task. Despite all this, Scott & Blair still somehow arrive last at the next task.

The road block requires teams to learn ballet at the national theater, which seems easy for the lead teams, but the trailing teams just fall further behind.

Road block (in order of arrival): Zach, Ashley, Kurt, Sheri, Dana, Korey, Scott

Then one last bit of drama when Blair takes her bag and her father’s bag without telling him, leading to him grabbing Tyler’s bag before realizing it and having to run back to a frantic but now also finished with the road block Tyler & Korey. They’re so close now that it’s going to come down to a footrace or cab ride.

The pit stop for this leg of the race is the Bridge of Peace.

First: Zach & Rachel (win a trip to Turks and Caicos)
Second: Burnie & Ashley
Third: Brodie & Kurt
Fourth: Dana & Matt
Fifth: Sheri & Cole
Sixth: Tyler & Korey
Eliminated: Scott & Blair

Tyler & Korey nearly threw the leg away, but somehow Scott & Blair managed to mess up more and have been eliminated.

Survivor: Kaoh Rong Episode 8

A seemingly harmless cut on his leg spelled the end of Neal’s time on the island in Survivor: Kaoh Rong Episode 7, as medical pulled him from the game.

For the challenge, they will use poles to transport one person across to the other side. Reward is ice cream. Julia chooses Nick, Debbie, Scot, and Tai. Aubry chooses Cydney, Michele, Joe, and Jason. Julia and Aubry are the ones walking across the poles. Julia goes slow and steady as Aubry keeps falling in the water. Michele takes over for Aubry and has no more success, and Cydney faces the same fate. Julia makes it across without falling, and her team joins her on the platform. Aubry blames her team and by extension herself for picking them, but her contribution didn’t exactly help.

Scot and Jason are worried about an all girl alliance, so they want to make sure one of the women goes next. When the others return, Nick approaches Julia to confirm, which Cydney sees and gets suspicious. She goes up to Jason, who plays dumb, not exactly a stretch, but Cydney isn’t buying it.

For the immunity challenge, they will balance on a perch while holding a handle above their heads. After 5 minutes, Jeff has a temptation, the only one he will be offering. Julia can’t even wait for him to get back with the food. Jason, Scot, Joe, and Michele take the food. Tai says he doesn’t want any of the Brains to win. Then Debbie steps down, and Aubry follows. As soon as he sees the Brains are done, Nick gives up as well. Tai has been struggling almost since the beginning, but he has refused to give up. After 40 minutes, Cydney, who seemed solid throughout, finally steps down. Tai wins immunity.

The plan is to split the votes between Debbie and Aubry with Debbie as the target. Nick tells Aubry the plan and suggests she vote for Debbie while also acknowledging he’s being arrogant.

Cydney, who denied the existence of a female alliance, has a different plan. She wants to form a female alliance and get rid of Nick. Of course Debbie and Aubry support this idea, but the question is which way Julia and Michele will go.

Tai reveals at Tribal Council that there is potentially a super idol in the game. This is all news to Julia, which begs the question why she’s so out of the loop in this large alliance of seven.

With 5 votes, Nick has been voted off the island. His arrogance got the best of him. The seemingly random Jason vote came from Tai, and that was not something anyone had discussed, though there are those who would certainly like to see Jason go away.

The Amazing Race 28 Episode 6

Having struggled the most at the road block, Erin & Joslyn really had no chance to catch up in The Amazing Race 28 Episode 5 and were eliminated.

Teams depart in the order in which they arrived.

First: Tyler & Korey – 5:28AM
Second: Brodie & Kurt – 5:35AM
Third: Dana & Matt – 5:48AM
Fourth: Scott & Blair – 6:08AM
Fifth: Zach & Rachel – 6:18AM
Sixth: Burnie & Ashley – 6:37AM
Seventh: Sheri & Cole – 6:38AM

Teams must now fly to Yerevan, Armenia. All teams are on the same flight with tasks not starting until the 8AM hours of operation.

Their first task is to search a theater for clues, which it turns out aren’t so much hidden as being held by the guy vacuuming, who at first glance probably just seems like another distraction. Only Dana & Matt are smart enough to quietly take their clue and move on, but still, some teams are left searching despite everybody being so obvious about it.

The detour is a choice between thread or bread. In thread, teams must complete a row of stitches on a carpet. In bread, teams must bake lavash.

Bread: Brodie & Kurt, Burnie & Ashley
Thread: Sheri & Cole, Dana & Matt, Zach & Rachel, Tyler & Korey, Scott & Blair

It doesn’t seem as if either detour serves much of an advantage.

The road block requires teams to perform an oil change at a “garage” on the side of the road.

Road block (in order of arrival): Kurt, Sheri, Burnie, Zach, Matt, Scott, Tyler

Only two people are allowed on the ramp at once, removing or at least reducing the ability for teams that are behind to catch up. But there is hope for the trailing teams. Sheri is tying up one of the ramps by herself, so they can just keep leapfrogging her as the other one is free. Tyler goes so far as to help the teams in front of him just go get a space.

The pit stop for this leg of the race is the Temple of Garni.

First: Brodie & Kurt (win express pass)
Second: Burnie & Ashley
Third: Zach & Rachel
Fourth: Dana & Matt
Fifth: Scott & Blair
Sixth: Tyler & Korey
Seventh: Sheri & Cole

The next leg starts right away, so Sheri & Cole survive.

Survivor: Kaoh Rong Episode 7

As the Brains turned on each other in Survivor: Kaoh Rong Episode 6, Peter was eliminated.

Cydney notices a bulge in Neal’s pocket, which she takes to be an idol. That could be the worst hiding job ever.

As one tribe sails across to meet the others, they are now merged.

There are 4 Beauty, 4 Brains, and 3 Brawn left. Nick approaches Aubry and Neal to form an alliance against the Brawn, but he is concerned about both Tai and Julia. Then he goes to the other team and learns that Tai has an idol.

Next up is Debbie. She wants to be in an alliance with Tai, but he doesn’t like her aggressive approach. Her other allies notice that her approach is probably a problem as well. Realizing they’re probably screwed by Debbie being Debbie, Aubry asks Neal if he has the idol, and he says he does. She should have just looked at his pocket.

Jason’s theory is that Beauty always goes with the jocks, which he apparently thinks describes himself, while they shove the nerds in lockers.

The immunity challenge requires ball balancing while also balancing on a perch. Joe is out early, and Debbie is right behind him. Jason falls toward the end of the round. After 5 minutes, they add a second ball. Michele, Neal, Scot, Cydney, and Aubry all drop within seconds. Then a third ball is added. Julia has been steady the whole time, but she’s the next one out. As Tai is eliminated, Nick wins immunity.

Michele doesn’t think that Jason or Scot can get any votes, and Nick thinks they are idiots. So they’ll be siding with them to get rid of Aubry.

At the challenge, they were discussing all their wounds. Jeff shows up at camp with medical to check everybody out. Tai is healing nicely. Scot is badly infected, but they will just keep an eye on it. Aubry looks sketchy, but they will be conservative and start her on antibiotics.

The nasty looking thing on Neal’s back is not an issue, but because what’s on his knee is potentially damaging to a joint, he is pulled from the game.

It wasn’t Aubry but her right hand man instead, and he departs with the idol they had hoped would save them if anything went wrong, which apparently it was.

Survivor: Kaoh Rong Episode 6

Following a tribe swap, the Beauty tribe became the targets at their new camp. They opted not to get rid of idol holding Tai, making Survivor: Kaoh Rong Episode 5 Anna’s last.

Peter approaches Tai to tell him he wants to get rid of Joe.

Debbie has decided that Nick looks like a Greek god, which she should know because she has convinced herself that she has also been a model.

Returning to the game, Julia joins the tribe that lost last time, Gondol.

For the challenge, they will retrieve buoys, which will then be shot into baskets. Reward is a picnic. As Michele struggles to grab her buoys, Gondol builds a nice lead. This should be an easy win for the pro basketball player, right? Okay, maybe easy is not the right word. Nick makes a comeback and even passes Scot for a while, but Gondol ends up winning reward.

Peter immediately goes up to Julia to discuss getting rid of his old alliance.

Debbie tells Michele that they should try to get rid of Jason. Nick instructs Michele that they’re not doing that. She’s the target after she blew that challenge, but if she does what he says, maybe she’ll be fine.

Joe notices Peter walking around talking to everybody else and eventually accuses him of trying to get rid of him. Peter acknowledges there’s a certain element of truth to that, as in it’s completely true. Joe knows he’s lying because he is being evasive.

For the immunity challenge, they must climb over a series of obstacles before finally freeing some blocks that must be stacked in a tower. Whatever else happens, it’s all about stacking the tower and not letting it fall and hit anyone in the head and cut them open and make them bleed (as happens to Joe). Chan Loh wins immunity.

Aubry doesn’t trust Peter, with good reason, but she’d rather keep him for now than risk the rest of the tribe having the numbers to take them out next time. Joe reluctantly apologizes for accusing him earlier, and Peter has decided his plan blew up in his face so he’ll go back with the Brains.

Realizing the real power is with Aubry, Tai and Julia approach her. Now she’s the one who wants to get rid of Peter, but Joe doesn’t want to go flipping things around at the last minute.

Even as they get to Tribal Council, there is whispering what the vote is supposed to be. This whispering eventually gets louder, culminating with Scot taking a page out of Keith’s book and telling everyone to just stick to the plan.

Survivor: Kaoh Rong Episode 5

First Caleb was the victim of a poorly designed challenge and had to be evacuated from the game in Survivor: Kaoh Rong Episode 4. Then Alecia, who for some still unexplained reason (Probst tried to explain it, badly) was placed on a tribe that was supposed to be about brawn and consisted of much larger bullies than her, was finally voted off the island.

We now pick up with the same story as before. How easy it is to find hidden immunity idols. This time, Neal is the one who finds one.

The good news for Brawn since they suck so badly is that it’s time to even up the sides, or at least as even as things can be with 13 people. They can drop their buffs.

Chan Loh (Blue): Michele, Cydney, Neal, Nick, Debbie, Jason
Gondol (Yellow): Peter, Tai, Scot, Aubry, Joe, Anna
Red: Julia

The odd woman out is Julia. Who? So far I’ve mentioned her once this season, to say that she was sitting out of a challenge. She will return to Brawn beach by herself and will reenter the game after the next vote.

Chan Loh has two Brains, two Beauty, and two Brawn. Gondol has three Brains, two Beauty, one Brawn.

Beauty girls had an alliance, which has now been split three ways. Peter is relieved because he had played himself right out of the game before this happened.

Debbie quickly forms an alliance with the two Brawn members, and almost as quickly, she calls herself a mastermind. Likewise, Nick approaches Jason to try to form an alliance and get rid of the Brains.

Anna promptly throws Tai under the bus. She assumes the Beauty tribe is the target because Julia’s coming back next.

For the immunity challenge, they will retrieve a net of fish puzzle pieces, untie hook them on to a pole, and carry them to the puzzle platform to complete the puzzle. They are about even on retrieving the nets, but Scot by his own carrying the useless Aubry gains a lead by the time they get to the beach. Regardless, as usual it comes down to the puzzle, which is split between all Brains plus Anna. Chan Loh wins immunity.

Everybody knows Tai and Anna are the targets, including Tai and Anna.

Peter and Joe talk Aubry into getting rid of Anna instead of Tai because he is their primary provider. Despite Aubry being the one trying to get rid of him, Tai has decided he doesn’t like Peter, who he can get rid of with his idol, and he shows it to Scot and Anna to gain their support for this plan. Because of the possibility of a super idol (since Jason has one as well), Scot doesn’t want Tai to play his, which seems dumb.

Tai goes along with Scot’s plan and does not play his idol.

The Amazing Race 28 Episode 5

The very silly ending in The Amazing Race 28 Episode 4 saw eight teams arrive on the mat at the same time with only Brittany & Jessica on the train behind them being eliminated when they finally made it to see Phil.

Teams depart in the order in which they arrived.

First: Brodie & Kurt – 10:46AM
Second: Tyler & Korey – 10:47AM
Third: Dana & Matt – 10:48AM
Fourth: Burnie & Ashley – 10:49AM
Fifth: Zach & Rachel – 10:50AM
Sixth: Erin & Joslyn – 10:51AM
Seventh: Sheri & Cole – 10:52AM
Eighth: Scott & Blair – 10:53AM

Teams must search the streets for a license plate to find their transportation, which means they aren’t going very far. At least in this case, they are all bunched together, so the tasks will determine the outcome, not the departure order, or at least that’s my initial theory.

After making their way up a mountain, they have to zipline to their next clue. The detour is a choice between dynamite and campsite. In dynamite, teams must deliver explosives and lunch to the workers across the mountain. In campsite, teams must pitch a tent.

Dynamite: Brodie & Kurt, Tyler & Korey, Dana & Matt, Zach & Rachel, Scott & Blair, Erin & Joslyn, Sheri & Cole
Campsite: Burnie & Ashley

It basically comes down to a scary task or one that requires attention to detail, and scary typically equates to better. This proves to be the case here, as the camping task is far inferior, pushing the only team to do it into second to last place, only ahead of Sheri & Cole who debated and finally reluctantly decided to do the other task. If Sheri hadn’t talked Cole into it, they would be in dead last instead of now just about tied.

The road block requires teams to paraglide, launching from more than 7000 feet, and correctly answer a very simple question about what they’ve seen when they are finished.

Road block (in order of arrival): Brodie, Korey, Matt, Rachel, Blair, Erin, Ashley, Sheri

Here they have to wait for good enough wind, and if they fall, they have to wait and try again.

The pit stop for this leg of the race is the Dr. Paccard Statue, which honors the man who first conquered the summit of Mont Blanc.

First: Tyler & Korey (win a trip to Philippines)
Second: Brodie & Kurt
Third: Dana & Matt
Fourth: Scott & Blair
Fifth: Zach & Rachel
Sixth: Burnie & Ashley
Seventh: Sheri & Cole
Eliminated: Erin & Joslyn

The road block provided for some amazing sights but a predictable ending. After Erin falls too many times, Erin & Joslyn have been eliminated. Perhaps they would have survived if they didn’t waste time earlier searching for lunch for the detour before finally realizing that it was the baguettes they had grabbed before heading up the mountain.

With March Madness coming up, the next episode will not air until April 1.

Stay tuned to dingoRUE for another recap of The Amazing Race 28 Episode 6, which airs Friday at 8/7c on CBS.
