So You Think You Can Dance Season 5 Episode 20

America got a little loopy when Janette was voted out in So You Think You Can Dance Season 5 Episode 19 (oh, and Jason Glover was sent home, too). Tonight the top 6 will perform.

The girls pick a new partner out of a hat tonight.

Lil C is joining Mary and Nigel at the judges’ table, which means we’re going to get a lot of big words from someone who got a thesaurus for Christmas, like Paula Abdul.

Nigel wants to see a star. If they can’t stand out, the one who lucks into the best routine will be safe.

Top 3 Guys
Choreographer: Sonya Tayeh
Song: True Romance by She Wants Revenge
Lil C: Loved it. Brandon is so dedicated. Ade is still proving it. Evan is commendable for not getting swallowed by the others.
Mary: I just loved it. Phenomenal.
Nigel: Evan stood out tonight because he hasn’t attempted stuff like this. Congratulations to all three.

Jeanine Mason & Ade Abayomi
Style: Samba
Choreographer: Louis van Amstel
Song: LoveGame by Lady Gaga
Mary: The first 15 seconds was absolutely incredible. Then it started to fall apart. Ade was hopping around that floor. So novice.
Lil C: Really fell short. Ade was just frollicking.
Nigel: Ade has to change his style with each routine. Jeanine was beautiful and confident and did a wonderful job.

Melissa Sandvig & Evan Kasprzak
Style: Broadway
Choreographer: Tyce Diorio
Song: Get Me to the Church on Time from My Fair Lady by Matt Dusk
Lil C: Expected so much out of Evan… but didn’t get that. Danced really good but could have been better.
Mary: Could be get me to the finale on time. Really fun and entertaining. Nice to see Evan in his own style. Melissa really came to life. Still hasn’t taken a wrong step.
Nigel: The other ballet girls can’t adapt as well as Melissa has. Evan brought enough to the routine, which was not technically demanding but was demanding on their personalities.

Kayla Rodomski & Brandon Bryant
Style: Contemporary
Choreographer: Stacey Tookey
Song: All I Want by Ahn Trio
Lil C: Really intense and beyond amazing. The first time Kayla’s been equally matched with a formidable partner.
Mary: Brandon is on the hot tamale train. Brilliant dancing. Kayla is as exquisite as anything. Perfection on the dance floor.
Nigel: Would have liked to see the pair of you dance together sooner. Not sure about the chemistry, but couldn’t have asked more from the technique.

Jeanine Mason & Ade Abayomi
Style: Hip Hop
Choreographers: Tabitha & Napoleon Dumo
Song: Move (If You Wanna) by MIMS
Lil C: Danced that way better than I expected. Ade utilized his dirty kind of groove.
Mary: Jeanine was terrific in the samba. But let’s talk about this dance. Will not be getting your eviction notice after that performance. Ade brought it on down.
Nigel: You got down, and it was absolutely fantastic. Not expecting that from Jeanine at all.

Melissa Sandvig & Evan Kasprzak
Style: Quickstep
Choreographer: Louis van Amstel
Song: As Long As I’m Singin’ by the Brian Setzer Orchestra
Lil C: Evan didn’t take heed to Nigel’s advice from the second week. Melissa was fabulous, though.
Mary: Crumbled and fell apart toward the end. A little disappointing.
Nigel: Melissa is extremely talented. The lindy hop section went down. Not one of the best routines tonight. May have the audience second guessing their votes.

Kayla Rodomski & Brandon Bryant
Style: Disco
Choreographer: Doriana Sanchez
Song: Dance (Disco Heat) by Sylvester
Lil C: There was no darkness (whatever that means).
Mary: Gave it a homerun tonight.
Nigel: This is what this show’s all about. Absolutely incredible.

Top 3 Girls
Choreographer: Sonya Tayeh
Song: Kick It (Superheroes Remix) by Nina Martine
Lil C: Still rambling, but the point is that they all didn’t really go for the gusto.
Mary: Kayla stood out because she had a couple tougher moves. Next year, call up Comic-Con because they need you.
Nigel: Didn’t find anyone stand out. All fantastic.

Kayla: 1-888-TEMPO-01
Ade: 1-888-TEMPO-02
Melissa: 1-888-TEMPO-03
Brandon: 1-888-TEMPO-04
Jeanine: 1-888-TEMPO-05
Evan: 1-888-TEMPO-06

The Bachelorette Season 5 Episode 12

First Jillian dumped Kiptyn. Then Reid came back and proposed after already being rejected. Jillian, who had already made up her mind who she wanted to ask her to marry her, said she had to think about it. Then Chris talked her into dumping Reid, again. So then Ed arrived and proposed to her, and he ended up as The Bachelorette Season 5 winner.

With the season now over, it’s time to find out what’s happened after the final rose.

First up, Melissa is back. Getting dumped by Jason was probably the best thing that ever happened to her. First, she got to star on Dancing with the Stars because ABC felt sorry for her. Since then, she has gotten engaged (again), but based on how she talked about her ex boyfriends on The Bachelor, my expectations for her relationship are not much better than they are for Jason and Molly. Her new fiance, who was previously her ex, became her best friend again when she got on the TV. She thinks that Jason made the right choice.

Kiptyn is back to tell us what went wrong, assuming he actually knows. He put it all out there, perhaps too late, but this was the first time he’s had his heart broken. It kinda sucks. He asks Jillian what he could have done differently. Nothing. Well, that doesn’t help. He doesn’t wish he’d done anything earlier because when he did say the things he said, he actually meant them, instead of just saying them just to say them or for the camera. He doesn’t have any hard feelings.

Reid is, of course, back again, presumably as part of his diabolical plan to not miss an episode. He thinks maybe he should have said more during the dinner at Maui, but he hoped that their connection was enough to get him to the next stage, where he could then say how he felt. Why’d he come back to the show? In order to change his pattern of indecisiveness. He had to make about 10 phone calls to the producers, who no doubt at the time were trying to hide the fact that they were jumping up and down. When did he know that she wasn’t going to accept his proposal? That’s a good question… he expected her to accept it.

He asks Jillian whether there was a part of her that wanted to say yes. She rambles. I’m not sure what her answer is. Does he regret doing what he did? No, it was worth it. Like Kiptyn, Reid still loves Jillian. If he told her how he felt earlier, would it have changed anything? She made the right decision, which isn’t a no, but it’s not so much a yes either. She was so in love with Ed that she could never have let him go. The first question Reid gets from the audience is whether he’s started dating again, and if he’d like to go out on a date with the girl asking it. This girl should consider applying for The Bachelor if she wants a shot. It’s too early for Reid to consider dating again.

Jillian is happily engaged to Ed, and I’m assuming she has no plans to dump him this evening and then ask the runner up to go out with her instead. Apparently, now’s the part where we believe Ed chose Jillian over his career, when in reality he chose her in addition to his career, which is a completely fair choice, but no need to sugar coat it. He knew he was going to propose in Spain the night he went to the fantasy suite, which was the episode after his return to the show. The morning of the proposal, Ed thought there was no way she was going to pick him, but when he got up there that day, he felt pretty good. Jillian will be moving in with Ed in Chicago on September 1, although they’ve already been together for most of the time since the show as it is. They plan to certainly (probably) get married within the next 12 months. That excessive speed was quickly derailed when DeAnna and Jesse did it. Why rush?

The Bachelor 14 has already been confirmed for next season, but no choice has yet been made for who will be its star. I was assuming Kiptyn, but Reid certainly boosted his chances by coming on the show again and again.

America’s Got Talent Season 4 Episode 11

The audition rounds concluded in America’s Got Talent Season 4 Episode 10, with performances from 8 year old singer Ciana Pelekai and the Beale Street Flippers. Then Susan Boyle came on for half the episode.

Now that the auditions are over, it’s time for the Vegas verdict. The 160+ acts will be narrrowed down to a top 40.

With so many acts having gone through, the judges have decided to make an early cut. Some of these acts will merely set foot in Vegas, without a chance to even try again. Upon landing, they will be split into 4 groups.

The first group is going through to the next round. If only they’d give us more than a name or two out of that group. The second group has been cut. The shock from this group is the elimination of Tallan Noble Latz. The other two remaining groups will both go through to the next round. In total, 25 acts were sent home, leaving 135+.

Keith Johnson and Pete Peterkin step forward first. Piers told Keith at the audition he didn’t quite have the voice yet, although he’s got the looks. Pete Peterkin was the Obama impersonator. Keith is told there are better singers, and as a result he will not be going through. Pete, however, probably is the best impersonator there, so he’s going through to the next round.

Dancer Arcadian Broad is the first to enter the theater to hear from the judges. He is through to Hollywood.

Acrodunk goes through. Then some nameless groups follow. Somehow, David Johnson, who sang the song about David Hasselhoff, makes it through. Seriously? Is he really better than Keith Johnson? Then they rush through some more groups. Slow it down a bit so I know what the heck’s going on.

Next up is Anthony Ferrante, the 74 year old retired barber, who danced, for lack of a better word. He’ll be going home. Nick tries to cheer him up. There’s always next year. His response: I could be dead by next year.

Next up to see the judges are three dance groups, all of which have their names spelled stupidly: Breaksk8, U4RIA, and Destined 2 Be. Since the judges couldn’t decide who to send home, they’ve come up with a plan, a challenge. They will be given 12 hours to prepare a routine to the same track of music. Not all of them will be going through when they return.

Drew Thomas and Joseph Constantine are the only remaining magicians in the contest. They had trouble deciding whether they should put one of them through or none of them through, but not both. In the end, Joseph has been eliminated, but Drew will be advancing.

A capella group Spiritual Harmonizers are the next to hear the verdict. Did their lead singer pull them through? No, they didn’t make it.

Then a bunch of dance acts, whoever they are, are going home in what was one of the more competitive categories. Will Hairo Torres follow them? No, he is safe.

The last two acts are singers: Lawrence Beaman and chicken catcher Kevin Skinner. Lawrence Beaman makes it through to the next round. Unsurpisingly, Kevin Skinner, perhaps the single most talked about contestant so far this season, joins him.

Big Brother 11 Episode 9

After he won HOH, Jessie nominated Michele and Jordan in Big Brother 11 Episode 8. Both of them are pawns. Half the house, Jessie’s enemies, wants him to backdoor Ronnie. However, his main ally Natalie wants him to target Casey.

Jessie doesn’t view Ronnie as a threat to himself. He’s an extra target for someone else, and he’s also a potential ally.

Michele doesn’t believe anybody will actually stick their neck out there for her, nor is she giving anyone a reason to do so.

Ronnie offers to play in POV for Michele. Not happening. She doesn’t trust him to save her. Yeah, that attitude will gain her support. If he wins it, he’s safe, too. What harm is there in trusting him? Granted, he has less reason to use it than some of the other people in the house, but anybody else using it would rather save Jordan.

Chima’s onboard with the Casey plan. She wouldn’t mind Michele going home either. Kevin says he’s not really concerned about Ronnie either. Lydia’s fine with keeping Ronnie here.

While playing truth or dare, Kevin is dared to cuddle with Jessie for 10 seconds. Jessie is sleeping, but he wakes up to Kevin cuddling him. Ronnie is dared to give Casey a 20 second hug. This goes off better than the Jessie cuddle did, or so it appears at first. Casey has noticed that Ronnie is now hanging out with Russell. When all’s said and done, don’t ever send a rat to hug him again. It really isn’t going to be hard to convince these people to vote against Casey.

Now that Jessie’s told everybody his plan to backdoor Casey, it’s time to choose up for the veto competition. Regardless, Casey believes the Ronnie plan is still in play.

Jessie chooses Jeff.
Michele chooses Casey.
Jordan chooses Chima.

Ronnie does not have a chance to participate, but Casey is given the opportunity to save himself. Casey says he doesn’t care who wins, though. If Casey does somehow win, Jessie does not have a lot of choice here. He’s already made deals with the rest of the house telling them they’re safe, with the exception of Jeff, who he can’t nominate.

For the veto competition, the houseguests all get dressed up as pigs. Jordan is excited to do some mud wrestling, but they will just search for truffles. They can keep 4 that they think are high enough. The person with the highest total after 5 minutes will win. They will also face a few temptations along the way. Michele and Jordan know they need the veto. Casey assumes it doesn’t matter because Ronnie is the target anyway. Chima’s strategy is to stay clean in all this mud, which may be/contain manure.

Once they are done with the competition, they are allowed to pick from 6 envelopes, which may add points, subtract points, or be a surprise. Michele is willing to take a gamble and take an envelope. Casey feels safe, so he’s just looking for some stuff and chooses an envelope. Jeff picks an envelope, as does Jessie. Jordan and Chima decline.

Jessie: 26 points plus $2500 plus 5 points from the envelope, for a total of 31 points
Jordan: 24 points
Jeff: 27 points minus 5 points from the envelope, for a total of 22 points
Chima: 25 points
Casey: 22 points plus a margarita party plus a banana suit for a week (if he lasts that long) from the envelope
Michele: 28 points plus 7 points from the envelope, for a total of 35 points

Michele wins the power of veto, and she’s happy that she showed everyone that she can win a competition that required luck and a willingness to take a gamble.

The banana suit definitely looks like it will prove to be less enjoyable than the red unitard.

Who would Michele want to see go up, since she’s won? Oh, and she can’t pick Ronnie. Jessie says that he didn’t want someone to win the competition. By simple deduction, that leads her to know that the giant banana is his target. She plans to be nice to Jessie since he’s got the power, but she intends to get the votes and get rid of him eventually. Her and all her allies apparently.

Kevin suggests to Lydia that she should tell Jessie to cut ties with Natalie. Yeah, why don’t you do that, dude? Anyway, Kevin’s got a new plan. Keep Casey, get rid of Jordan.

Lydia tells Jordan the plan to nominate Casey, pretending like she’s not entirely sure. Jordan runs to tell Jeff. Jeff goes to Casey. Not wanting to wait until he’s on the block, we come full circle, as Casey wants to talk to Jessie, who tells him the right guy will be going home.

The Casey/Jeff/Jordan triangle is in a lose-lose situation regardless of what happens should Casey be the replacement, but Jessie really doesn’t have a lot of choice.

Michele has saved herself. Casey is the replacement nominee. It’s a nuthouse around here. Said the man in the banana suit. Jordan wants to know why Ronnie’s looking at her like that.

Jordan is tired of being on the block every week. She plans to win HOH next week. She believes she may not be the smartest Crayon in the box (I can’t be alone in not having heard that expression before)… but she’s not that dumb. Casey didn’t think Jessie was dumb enough to nominate an arch enemy.

Hell’s Kitchen Season 6 Episode 3

Before we could find out the final results of Hell’s Kitchen Season 6 Episode 2, Joseph, who presumably just tried out for the show to put that ass Gordon Ramsay in his place, wanted to take things out into the parking lot.

Joseph tells Ramsay he ain’t nothing but a bitch. It’s funny because it’s true. Joseph has now been kicked off the show. Yeah, we had to wait a week to see that.

Back to where we were before Ramsay started whining about Joseph giving him a taste of his own medicine. Tony and Andy were nominated for the blue team, which followed Lovely and Tennille having been nominated by the red team. Tony has been eliminated. Since the men are now down by two, Robert will be switching teams again, back to the men’s team.

The chefs are ready for a little sleep. At 2:05AM, they find out it’s very little sleep. A bunch of fire trucks show up. For a fire drill. So this is where my tax dollars are going. And this is the drama they focused on in the promos?

The challenge is to serve food to the firemen. Whoever feeds their side of the dining room first wins. Each table must receive their garlic bread before the pasta goes out.

Lovely’s not together yet. I don’t think we can wait for her to get together.

On the other team, Andy is using 2 out of the 5 ovens. How hard is is to make bread?

Ariel jumps in, allowing the red team to get some garlic bread out.

The pasta’s ready for the blue team. How about the bread?

Red team has completed the garlic bread service. Now they’re moving on to the pasta entrees. Meanwhile, the blue team is still waiting on Andy. The bread’s finally going out for them, so they are also moving on to entrees.

Sabrina’s pasta has one piece of chicken in it. That won’t cut it.

The women are up by two tables all along, and it looks like they’re going to win, so it’s time to introduce a bit of drama into it. Tek has served up a pink meatball. At least it was to a firefighter and not to a pregnant lady, which last week proved to be the worst crime in the world.

The men catch up, getting both tables down to one ticket left, but it’s not enough. Red team wins the challenge. The ladies will be going to a spa via helicopter. For their punishment, the men will be hosing down dirty fire equipment and trucks. Then they’ll clean the dining room.

Dave hurts his hand washing the truck. He feels his wrist start to swell up right away, but he just hides it because he does not want anyone to know. Then Kevin trips going up the stairs, injuring both ankles. Dave, meanwhile, can’t hide his pain any longer, so he asks the medics for some assistance since they’re there anyway. They’re off to the hospital.

Dave has a torn FCR and a slight fracture. He says he’s fine to work. Kevin has a stretched ligament and a severely sprained ankle. Having to stand in the kitchen all day, that could be a problem.

Dave volunteers to be the waiter for the blue team; Lovely will be the waitress for the red team.

Van is on appetizers. His shouting is not impressing Ramsay, but his risotto is delicious.

Tennille has way too much oil for her scallops, or so Suzanne tells her, not that she’s going to listen. Maybe she’ll listen to Ramsay instead.

Andy is attempting to help Robert with his scallops, which just leads to them blaming each other for things not working out.

Back in the red kitchen, why are the scallops boiled? Suzanne uses this as an opportunity to give an I told you so to Tennille, who puts the same ones back in the pan. Then she’s told it’s time to start over, which ultimately leads to her starting a fire. She can’t handle too many people talking to her at one time. How’s she plan to run a kitchen then? With that behind her, though, she is delivering the scallops.

Lovely’s running behind. 42 minutes to take one order?

Amanda delivers 8 chops to Ramsay. 3 3’s are what? 3. So what’s 3 times 3? 6. Might wanna try 9. When she figures out the numbers, she’s unable to deliver an acceptable final lamb chop.

Bad feet or not, Kevin’s not having any trouble running around the kitchen.

The men are 1 ticket away from finishing. Robert forgot the salmon. He’ll need 12 more minutes. This allows the women to get to their last ticket, and they push ahead to finish first. While the men complete the service, the big error at the end cost them.

Red diners rated their experience 81% above average. Blue diners rated their experience 83% above average. Despite the brief moment of joy the women experienced, they are the losing team. Ariel is the best of the worst, so she will have to think about two individuals she’d like to drop.

Lovely is the first nominee due to her lack of experience. Tennille is the second nominee. Amanda skates past thanks to two people being worse than her. Neither of them will end up winning, but Lovely is safe. Tennille also is not going home because Joseph “took himself out of the competition.”

The Bachelorette 5 Winner

Having sent Reid Rosenthal home in The Bachelorette Season 5 Episode 9, Jillian is now left with two bachelors to choose from out of the 30 she started with: Ed Swiderski, who already dumped her once so he could make sure his job was safe, and Kiptyn Locke, who she feels is out of her league.

This week they go to the big island of Hawaii, and the two remaining guys will be meeting Jillian’s family.

Ed’s and Jillian’s concern is getting over Ed’s inability to perform in the fantasy suite. Ed tells his story so far to her parents. While he realizes that they may not look at him leaving favorably, he hopes they’ll realize that that Ed (from a couple weeks ago) was a different Ed. Jillian’s mom has about 66 questions for Ed, and she will be reading every one of them. He plans to have three kids, and he hopes that honesty and love will keep them together. Jillian’s not afraid of a proposal and actually is looking forward to it. Next up is the father, who gives his blessing for them to get married. When she’s done with this, she’s picturing Ed as her fiance. Then there’s that whole second guy thing.

Kiptyn’s next. They may well need to get a room, again. Kiptyn has a work hard, play hard philosophy. He works to live, then heads down to the beach in his free time. When he’s done talking with the whole family, here comes mama with the list and a lot of black ink. He wants to have children, although he doesn’t know how many yet, and he agrees with Jillian’s philosophy about marrying your best friend. Jillian’s mom thinks he’s more like Jillian. Grandma finds him to be very nice. The other woman there, who I’m just going to guess is Jillian’s sister, likes his gentle personality and how he’s not a workaholic. Her father wants to know whether he’s in love with Jillian. Unlike Ed, who has already told Jillian he loves her, Kiptyn does not answer yes, but does say he’s getting there a lot quicker than he thought. During this conversation, though, he realizes he is in love.

Now that she’s done bringing both guys home, what does her family think? The sister found Ed to be more work oriented, similar to Jillian, whereas Kiptyn has a unique love of people and life, also similar to Jillian. Mom was drawn more to Kiptyn’s energy but felt that both guys are there for the right reasons. While Ed told her father he loved her and asked for permission to get married, Kiptyn did not. Time for some girl talk. The overnight date with Kiptyn was full of passion. The overnight date with Ed was… disappointing.

For their final date, Jillian and Ed are heading to a chopper, which will take them to see some eruptions. They land at an out of the way waterfall in the middle of the rain forest arranged by some adventure company that I’m assuming was supposed to get a plug, if only I could tell how to spell it based on the pronunciation (something Hawaiian). He would never do it again. Leave her, that is. The chemistry seems to be a lot better than it was on their prior date, which leaves a question about how things will go when they get a room. It’s still there when they turn out the lights, which completes the puzzle to how he feels about her.

Kiptyn realizes that Jillian needs to know that he can see a future with her and will propose if given the opportunity. She loves Kiptyn, and she thinks he loves her. She thinks he’s the best catch she’s ever met, if only she knew how he felt. They get in a speedboat, much less romantic than the helicopter, but their destination is a private beach in the middle of nowhere, which presumably may well be clothing optional, except that’s a whole nother TV show, probably on Fox. That night, Kiptyn tells Jillian that, while he may be slower than some people in this process, he is now there and would like to get married. He thinks she should come and live with him. It’s a good thing that Jillian is willing to move because it doesn’t appear either guy is ready to do so themselves.

Kiptyn gets out of the first limo. He finally uses the L word. Based on Jillian’s reaction, it becomes clear he’s not the one. She’s fallen in love with someone else. This is the first time he’s ever had his heart broken, as he’s normally the dumper rather than the dumpee.

Now that that’s over, it’s time for Ed to get out of his limo. Or is it? Nope, in the season of twists in which people just keep on coming back after they’ve been voted off the island (it’s like the season where Survivor had a ghost tribe), next up is Reid, hoping to beg for a second chance. He had to pull a million strings to be here (oh, as if the producers aren’t just eating this up). He plans to use the L word for the first time, too, and then he’s going to propose to her, whether she wants him to or not. Dude, you’d better hurry up, because Ed’s on his way there as you speak. He came back to tell Jillian that he’s an idiot, and something about loving her. She sent him packing because he was so unsure. So, like, does he know what’s going on there right now? Regardless, he gets down on his knee and proposes. He gets an “I don’t know.” Well, that beats a no.

Considering she’d already decided to get married to Ed, it would be difficult to justify not doing so at this late stage in the game. Granted, Jason did it to Melissa after he got bored of her in 6 weeks, but that’s another discussion altogether. Because she already made her mind up before, Jillian must also say goodbye to Reid. Again.

Okay, so is Wes coming back again, or can we get on with the real proposal? The door opens, and this time Ed steps out. We know now he’s The Bachelorette 5 winner, assuming he wants the title. We can assume he does, but wouldn’t it just suck if he decided he wasn’t interested? Not wanting to pull a Mesnick (or a Rosenthal), before going any further, Ed would like to hear that Jillian loves him, which she does. Now that he knows that, Ed proposes, and Jillian accepts.

Stay tuned to dingoRUE for another recap of The Bachelorette 5 episode 12, which airs Tuesday at 10/9c on ABC.

Big Brother 11 Episode 8

Ronnie continued his manipulating ways, finally being busted by the whole house for being way too obvious about it. In the end, Laura was voted out in Big Brother 11 Episode 7, but she hopes she took Ronnie down with her.

Casey hopes that Ronnie is still the target. The reason he’s hoping that: he wants Jessie to waste his week as HOH. That way, next week, they can come after Jessie’s side of the house.

After Jessie’s win, Ronnie mouths the words “Thank God.” Here’s a tip for future BB players: after an HOH competition, anybody smart enough to be doing so is looking around at the reactions of other players. This is when true reactions come out. Kevin catches Ronnie saying this, and he knows that Jessie may well keep Ronnie safe.

Russell, who’s finally shaved that stupid moustache, has made a deal with Ronnie. Considering how he bullied him, this is the perfect alliance. Nobody would suspect these two together. Granted, they can’t actually trust each other either. Like Ronnie, Russell is trying to play everybody.

Natalie views Casey as a challenge threat.

The rest of the house is outside chatting. Ronnie’s by himself inside reading. Natalie would like him to at least make an effort and not hide, but she does want him to know he’s safe this week.

Jordan’s not impressed by Jessie’s big guns. Lydia, however, is impressed to see he’s got a motorcycle.

Lydia is attempting to tell Jessie how she feels about him. During this discussion, he’s distracted by her fake eyelashes and tongue ring. The discussion finally seems to go somewhere, but anyway Jessie wants to think he’s a beautiful butterfly waiting to come out, just like she is. Considering Natalie also likes Jessie, we’ve got the makings of a love triangle. This won’t end well, and the increasing size of Jessie’s ego may well damage the foundation of the house.

Ronnie wants to rebuild relationships. Michele doesn’t care.

As for Michele, she’s looking to build relationships as well. She comes to speak to Jessie, which she never does unless he has some type of power. Natalie asks her whether she won’t put them up if she wins HOH. She will appreciate them and remember it. That’s not a real answer.

One person from each group will participate in the have/have not competition. Chima will play for the brains. Kevin will play for the offbeats. Jordan will play for her team of one. They will race their BB cruisers to collect ice cubes to put in the other teams’ cups. The clique with the most cubes in their cup after 15 minutes will be the have nots. They’re wearing drunk goggles, and it all depends on aim, so it’s less likely they will be able to make sure things go their way. Such as when Jordan hits herself, on more than one occasion. As if they can’t see to begin with, foam sprays out after a while to obstruct their vision even more. Kevin is targeting the brains. By the end of the game, every bin is pretty full, so they’re hoping to think strategically and see if they can knock cubes out of their cups. They realize this is ultimately a dumb luck competition about how the cubes settle in the cups. 15 minutes was far too long. Don’t they test these games first?

Offbeats: 12
Popular: 11
Brains: 13

The brains are the have nots for the week. In addition to slop, they will be able to snack on cabbage and cocktail weenies. Ronnie is happy with weenies. Chima thinks America sucks.

America’s next vote: squash and squid, brussel sprouts and borscht, or liverwurst and black licorice.

Kevin and Russell are bonding, at least to the extent that they can. Kevin gives Russell kudos for trying.

Lydia’s getting all bent out of shape. Tell me something new. In order to prove a point, she’s decided to stay up all night because Natalie doesn’t want to share her bed. Kevin tells her this is a disaster waiting to happen. Don’t piss of the HOH’s closest ally. Natalie wants Jessie to tell Lydia not to talk to her. Jessie wants to talk with Lydia, but talking can wait until tomorrow.

Casey will be happy with Jessie if he nominates Ronnie. Otherwise, Jessie has added yet another target to his back. So again why should he go along with this plan if he’s already got multiple targets on his back?

Because Jessie is HOH, Ronnie feels as safe as he possibly can this week.

Michele is unsure because she realizes nobody really cares if she walks out that door. At the same time, nobody really actively wants her to leave either.

Nominations
Russell, Jeff, and Natalie are safe because an athlete is HOH.
Chima is safe.
Kevin is safe.
Casey is safe.
Lydia is safe.
Ronnie is safe.

Jordan and Michele have been nominated for eviction. That’s it. No reason given. Michele would like to think she’s closer with the athletes than Jordan is. That’s not saying much. Jordan hopes they’re both just pawns to backdoor Ronnie. Jessie does have a master plan. He knows Jordan and Michele are hopeless when it comes to competitions, giving himself a greater chance of winning veto. If someone pulls one of them off the block, he can backdoor someone he really wants out of the house. He does not elaborate.

Survivor: Africa Winner

With the elimination of Teresa in Survivor: Africa Episode 13, the alliance of four Boran members remains standing as the final four: Ethan Zohn, Kim Johnson, Lex van dn Berghe, and Tom Buchanan. This alliance made one stupid move after another, surviving in spite of themselves because the other tribe was so fractured. Considering that everybody followed Lex around like a bunch of lemmings, he deserves the credit for getting his team this far, although he’s certainly made himself a lot of enemies in the process of his advancement through his unnecessarily aggresive moves against friend and foe alike.

Before she left, though, Teresa did manage to stir the pot, which is enough to cast doubt in Lex’s mind about Tom. Big Tom has said since the Brandon vote that he didn’t trust Lex, and maybe he should have done something about it then because now Lex is ready to turn on him. Lex’s plan is to talk to Tom and confront him about it. Tom denies having said anything to T-Bird, but he does acknowledge having told Kim she could vote for Lex. Following their discussion, Tom says that their alliance still stands. Lex seems comfortable with their alliance, but Tom doesn’t want to shake hands with him again because they already have one deal going. As much as Kim hopes to get in the middle, the guys plan to remain loyal to each other. She has had numerous occasions to change the course of her game, but she’s failed to take advantage of any of them.

It’s the “How closely have you paid attention to your tribemates (and feel free to guess if you need to)?” challenge. Big Tom knows he’s in trouble. Lex feels that Kim has the best chance of winning this, which would be a first for her.

What rank did Frank reach in the army?
Staff sergeant. Nobody is right.

Which Survivor listed manipulating men on their application as one of their favorite hobbies?
Kelly. Everybody is right.

Who was the first to hit a target in the archery competition?
Lindsey. Tom gets a point.

Whose children are these, and what are their names?
Teresa’s Ellie and Tyler. Giveaway question. Everybody gets it right.

In which city and state is Jessie a deputy sheriff?
Orlando, FL. Everybody is right, remembering back quite a ways.

Which Survivor has a tattoo of a black widow spider, and for an extra point, where is it located?
Brandon. Everybody is right. It’s on his back. Lex and Kim get the bonus question.

With that lame bonus point, Kim and Lex pull into a tie with Tom.

Who are Sage Hunter and Jocelyn Rose?
Frank’s children. Everybody is right on another obvious question.

Which female Survivor does not have anything pierced, including her ears?
Kelly. Kim is correct and wins immunity, spoiling the final three alliance plans.

With 3 votes, Big Tom has been voted off the island. Nobody would want to go up against him in the end. While he could not be dubbed a mastermind, he’s made a lot of friends along the way.

Jeff Probst comes to wake up the final three early the next morning. Lex is sick. He’s had diarrhea and spent all night up going to the bathroom about a dozen times. We found out later that he was offered medical attention that would take him out of the game for a couple hours, but he refused that assistance for fear that it would cause him to lose the game. This is not the state you want to be in going into what you know is going to be an endurance competition.

The final immunity challenge is to put each foot on a stump and one hand on an idol. Once they do that, they are not allowed to move them. Last person standing wins. Ethan’s the first one out at 2 hours and 26 minutes, odd because he’s up against a sick guy and an old woman. Although we didn’t see it, Ethan’s elimination came after he was distracted by his cameraman, who threw up due to the heat. There’s no talk of a deal between the two who remain standing. The only talking going on is that Lex knows he’s screwed because he was sick all night. At 3 hours and 21 minutes, Lex falls, and Kim wins immunity, guaranteeing herself a spot in the final two, despite her original plan to let the boys just walk away with it.

Vote
Lex

Having controlled the game almost since the beginning and having been a target almost as long, Lex has finally been voted out. Either way, it would be hard for the jury to justify a Kim vote. Had she done something like joined in the all girl alliance, voting for her would make some sense, but merely following the alliance of three guys and then winning a couple of immunities to keep them from voting her out isn’t going to cut it. Granted, it could be argued that Ethan just followed Lex around the whole time.

Why did Kim bring Ethan with her? Lex felt he deserved it, whereas Ethan maybe didn’t think that way.

Brandon says he doesn’t like one of these people and can’t wait to vote against him. Yeah, there’s a real shortage of Brandon disliking people this season. Kelly wants to watch them both squirm because she didn’t vote for stupid Lex and shouldn’t have been voted off when she was. Big Tom already decided who he’s going to vote for, so his question will not be serious.

Kim can’t ask the jury to vote for her because it will be hard for her to change their minds since they already know who she is.

Ethan wanted to prove that honest people could get where they’ve gotten. For the most part he’s right, although cutting both Clarence and Kelly before they got rid of the other tribe (or at least a reasonable amount of the other tribe) stands out as something that most people in the final two would not have done.

Brandon, who said he had made up his mind already, tells the final two he has no idea who he’s voting for. Neither of them really got to know him, and neither liked him enough to keep him around three days longer than Frank. Yeah, still bitter about Frank. Out of the 7 jury members, which person would they like to see sitting next to them? Ethan answers Lex because of how he played the game, and it would be a greater achievement to be able to beat Lex. Kim would have to go with Lex as well. Part two of the question: who deserved to be there the least? Just a name. No why. Ethan: Brandon. Now that’s funny. Kim: Tom. Kim voted against someone who would never vote for her, but Ethan considered Brandon the swing vote, so this is perhaps not the best answer.

Lex asks what the first selfless act they will perform when they get back home will be. Kim is going to look into the project they’ve been discussing, the Wamba Project, to help fight AIDS. Ethan would like to give his time to an inner city soccer league, having been inspired by his trip to the village and playing hacky sack with the kids.

Frank wants to know the big five characteristics needed to get this far. Ethan: will power, strength, integrity, intelligence, and luck. Kim: respect, thoughtfulness, flexibility, love, and understanding. Let’s just all sing Kumbaya now.

Kelly was surprised and disappointed by Kim’s conduct, but thanks her for giving Lex the chance to do his own walk of shame. But if Kim thinks she did this with high integrity, think again. Then there’s Ethan, who didn’t try to make any relationship with her. Pick a number between 1-1000. Kim: 3. Ethan: 888. This may seem a little obvious here, but shouldn’t Ethan have said 4, thereby ensuring Kim could only win with 1, 2, or 3?

Little Kim asks who on the jury did they learn the most about themselves from and who did they learn the least about themselves from. Kim J learned the most from Kim P, who had the guts to call off a wedding rather than do what’s expected of her. She was also able to forgive Brandon for making sure she lost the game. As for the second part of the question, Big Tom. Not that she’s picking on him. Ethan learned the most from Teresa, who was almost like his safe place in this game. She had a lot of will power to win and be there. Least would be Kelly. He acknowledges that he didn’t take time to get to know her.

Big Tom’s taken some hits from Kim, but he’s just going with his original plan. If a hyena came through camp and ate the mush then licked his hind end, did he do it because that was the animal instinct or to get the taste of the mush out of his mouth? Ethan’s response: to clean its hind end because he didn’t mind the taste of the mush as much as Tom did. Kim is obviously pretty well over Big Tom and doesn’t appear to try to find the humor in this question.

Teresa asks what they would take back about one of the jurors. Kim didn’t sell Kelly out, but didn’t know enough to go to her defense either. Ethan goes back to that vote as well, and he thought it came from Frank and did make some effort to get rid of Frank as a result.

Brandon says he’s voting for Kim because Ethan answered his question wrong. Yet, well before the vote, he told the camera that he didn’t like someone and was looking to vote against him. Don’t try to get a job as an actor, dude, because nobody’s buying it. Someone as bitter as Brandon isn’t going to change his mind over just one question.

Kim P says she thought she would vote for Ethan, and she is someone we can actually believe. She voted for Kim presumably because of her compliments toward her when she was trying to win her vote.

Big Tom’s about as fed up with Kim J as she is with him. She rode coattails to get where she is, and he shouldn’t have felt sorry for the weak link when she was costing them all those challenges.

Kelly’s vote comes down to a number, the room number from The Graduate, 568.

After the vote, Jeff’s question is whether there’s anything they’re willing to admit to now that it’s all over. Kim was scared a lot, which she may not have covered as well as she thought. That changed for her in the final immunity challenge, the first time she really stood on her own.

Then Ethan’s asked about anything about the final tribal council that surprised him. Kelly, letting it all come down to a number.

By a vote of 5-2, Ethan Zohn is the Survivor: Africa winner.

Kim says that she took Ethan with her because she knew she couldn’t beat either of them, so she decided to take the person she thought deserved it most next to herself. Teresa is right there with her, having decided early on that she was going to vote for Ethan because she wanted it to be him if it couldn’t be her.
