Beauty and the Geek 4 Episode 6

In Beauty and the Geek episode 5, it was finally makeover time, where we found out who the actual geeks were and who was just dressed up for the sake of the show. Sam & Nicole and Luke & Katie went to the elimination room, and Luke & Katie were eliminated. And yes, I still think it was fixed.

Sam and Nicole return from the elimination room to a lukewarm reception. Nobody gets up to greet them.

After hearing the (pointless) comments from the last episode that he and Jasmine haven’t grown enough, David goes from there to the conclusion that he’s a terrible person. Jasmine manages to cheer him up.

The challenge will be held at Comic-Con. The beauties must come up with a superhero with a complete backstory and an archnemesis. They will be wearing outfits that have been designed by the geeks. Since they will be working together, they will be judged as a team, so the winner will get to choose both teams to go to elimination.

Jasmine wants Princess Bedhead as her character. She says “It gets better, or hopefully it will.” Natalie decides she wants to be a supervillain instead of a superhero, which sounds like a good idea. It doesn’t take long before the concept of being a superhero gets to Sam, who thinks he’s a superhero already. Jen wants to create a superhero who fights with her boobs. William says her ideas are stupid. I can’t think of a better descriptive term either.

I’m not real sure how sewing proves someone’s a beauty or socially well adapted, but that’s part of the geek challenge. Nicole’s feeling good about the way things are going since Sam is going to go topless, and she has enough time to give advice to the others.

Will starts bashing Jen (deservedly), and she walks into the room and hears him. She says she doesn’t care if he doesn’t like her, but they need to work as a team. As he leaves, she calls him an idiot and says she’ll resent him for life if this continues. Now that’s the spirit.

It’s not long before the geeks turn even more geeky when they get to Comic-Con (and on the ride over for that matter). The beauties don’t even give it a chance for the most part. However, Erin approaches it with an open mind.

Shay’s character is Steam. That’s about all she can remember. Erin is Aqualita Splash. Malibu Barbie with dolphins who have superpowers. Jen is Venus the Hypnotic Temptress. Yeah, she went with the boob idea. Natalie is Vinity, the lady killer who has vines covering her body and eats humans. Bad news for Metro Man, Sam, all the judges are guys. He’s a world famous underwear model who breakdances the villains. Jasmine also went with her original idea, Princess Bedhead. Her spray puts people to sleep. Her personality is more important than anything else in her presentation, and it goes over well with the judges.

The judges were pleased with Jasmine, but her character ultimately didn’t work as well as how entertaining she was. Sam and Nicole won. What the…? Yeah, I’m pulling out the rigged card again. How is a breakdancing underwear model a viable superhero? And to add insult to injury, his partner did very little in this challenge, which she didn’t have to because the costume was underwear.

Sam and Nicole get to pick two teams to go to elimination. Natalie & John will go up against Jesse & Erin. The fear is they are too close to each other to stick around. The guys will be tested on fashion; the girls will be tested on comic books.

Natalie gets her first question right, as does Erin. Natalie gets her followup question right, but Erin does not. This gives Natalie & John a 2-1 lead. John gets his first question right. Jesse misses his. Erin and Jesse have been eliminated.

Beauty and the Geek 4 Episode 5

In Beauty and the Geek 4 episode 4, Jesse and Erin got their revenge, sending Rebecca and Will to the elimination room. Sam also got duped by his partner into sending an allegedly strong team, but the team that everyone feared proved so bad at Q&A that it didn’t matter anyway because Rebecca and Will didn’t get a single quesiton right, and as a result were eliminated. This breakup of the couple should benefit the house and removes one person who’s not there for the right reasons, while it may get the other one on the right track (but I doubt it). Sam’s obviously upset by this.

The beauties go back to school for reading, writing, and arithmetic. The geeks’ challenge is a surprise, but before that, it’s geek makeover day. Let’s find out who the ringers are who geeked up specifically for the show, as well as how much the actual geeks can improve.

Jesse’s mom cuts his hair. David wants whatever’s most efficient. John seems willing to change but doesn’t know how he wants to change. Shay tells Joshua he’s probably going to have to get rid of everything he has.

More than one of the geeks shops at the discount rack. David says he doesn’t want jeans, so they make him wear jeans. Then there’s hair coloring and body hair removal.

Not so sure about the blonde look on Jesse, but he looks pretty good. Minus the glasses, plus a shave and new hairstyle, David looks a lot better. William looks as good as can be expected, but Jen’s not impressed because she doesn’t like him anyway. Joshua’s still a geek but an improved geek. Nicole had a great makeover. Luke, who looked good to begin with, is improved as well. For John, all it took was the loss of the shaggy hair and glasses, and he’s easily one of the best looking guys in the house.

It’s announced that the next day there will be a prom. The geeks must ask dates and will go to prom with anyone other than their partner. Nicole can ask another geek. Sam can’t go, and one other beauty will be left out as well. Yet another problem with this year’s twist, whether it creates some drama or not.

Luke asks Erin right away. Jesse asks Natalie. Dave thinks Nicole’s going to ask him, but she asks John, so Dave asks Katie. William asks Jasmine. Shay’s the one who gets left behind.

While everybody else is in the hottub, Sam’s studying. Not so much to learn something but because he wants to win. The next day, they find out what the challenge is. They have to be a teacher for a class of little kids, to be judged by a principal. Jen has no clue what she’s doing. Erin, who didn’t even open the book, knows where the east and west coasts are, and that’s about it. Katie’s as clueless as Jen. Jasmine’s pretty much on the same level as the kids. Sam doesn’t really know what he’s doing but has the personality to get by and impress the kids. Shay similarly uses her personality and interacts with the kids to do a good job. The winner of the challenge is Shay.

Geeks must mingle and campaign with the students at the dance. The geek who gets the most votes wins the challenge. Luke’s a little too comfortable interacting with strangers, as is John. Dave’s pretty comfortable but not particularly interesting. John ends up winning the most votes, which was pretty obvious.

John sends Sam & Nicole to the elimination room. Sam takes it well. Shay sends Katie & Luke because they need to be there least. Joshua is dumb and says he considered sending Jasmine & David due to lack of growth. Valid point or not, there’s no need to risk making enemies like that.

Sam gets the first question right, and Katie gets her much harder question right as well. Sam gets his second question right, and Katie again gets a much harder question but misses it this time. Nicole gets her first question right, and Luke gets his right as well (again, much more difficult). Nicole gets probably the hardest question her and Sam have gotten all along correct, so Luke and Katie have been eliminated. I’m calling foul based on these questions. Sam & Nicole got very simple questions, whereas Luke & Katie got questions that confused both beauties and geeks alike. Anything to keep a twist alive I suppose.

Beauty and the Geek 4 Episode 4

In episode 3, Will decided to be an idiot and win a challenge he didn’t need to win, which pretty much meant he was screwing himself over no matter who he picked. His partner got to keep her boytoy, and while Hollie and Josh were eliminated, Erin and Jesse still want revenge.

We start off with Rebecca picking up right where she left off, getting into bed with her “distraction.” Not shy about this fact, they wake up Nicole, who gets up and leaves and starts crying. She worries about what people will think about her, but I don’t think anyone has a problem with her. She comes to the conclusion that Rebecca is the problem, making another person who wants to get rid of Will/Rebecca.

The challenges for the week were picked by the public on The CW website based on their favorite of three choices. For the beauties: rocket science, computer science, and social science. For the geeks: massage by geek, fashion by geek, and body by geek. They don’t tell them which challenges are chosen, so they have to study for all of them.

Shay tries to teach Joshua how to squeeze his butt cheeks together, which goes over as well as can be expected. He’s the Richard of the show, minus the ADD. Will and Rebecca hope for the massage challenge since she’s in school for massage. Luke reveals he doesn’t have any use for that team either.

America has indeed chosen massage. Big surprise. Chicks with fake boobs in bikinis. Shay’s full of confidence, saying her partner’s probably going to suck at this. Each geek must massage each beauty (Sam included) for three minutes and will be judged on how they do. Dave uses the typewriter technique. Because his mother likes to be massaged that way. William’s a scratcher. Somebody goes a little too high when massaging their legs. Three people tied for second place, one point away from the winner. Will, John, and Joshua came in second. The winner of the geek challenge is Jesse, which was way too obvious because they made such a big deal about how they were afraid of Will winning.

Rebecca breaks down crying already, even though she hasn’t even competed in her challenge yet. After the challenge, Will goes to Erin to try to plead his case. She takes offense because he kept putting it off until after Jesse won the challenge. Not letting himself get down, Will believes Rebecca’s serious about the challenge, as we go to a scene of her wasting her time with Sam. Sam said earlier he felt bad about Nicole being upset, but he’s still ignoring her and not bother to study with her.

For the beauties, America has chosen rocket science. Each beauty must assemble and launch a rocket. Like the last challenge that increased Rebecca’s odds of staying in the house, this challenge increases Sam’s, as he’s the clear favorite here. This is an example of where the male beauty is unfair. Sam wins the challenge, coming in ahead of Rebecca, meaning if she goes home, it’s ultimately his fault. But better her than him I suppose. If nothing else, it does at least give him the opportunity to choose Rebecca’s opponents. Nicole gives him advice of who to pick, telling him to send someone she thinks can beat them (but telling Sam she thinks they can’t).

Jesse picks Will and Rebecca. Rebecca says it’s about revenge, but Erin denies it. Sam chooses William and Jen, as Nicole suggested. They must again study all three subjects. Rebecca starts crying in her confessional (again), saying she needs this change. Apparently making out with Sam counts as change. People volunteer to help Jen because she actually tried to do something to get to know them. Rebecca’s crying (it’s like watching Amber in BB8) that nobody wants to help her. Jasmine tells Will to get people to help, but Rebecca refuses to let him.

Jen gets her first question right, but Rebecca misses hers. Jen gets her second question wrong, as does Rebecca, giving Jen a 1-0 lead. William gets his first question right, but Will misses his. Rebecca and Will have been eliminated. He played too hard, and she was more interested in a guy. A fitting boot, one everybody but Sam will be happy with. Rebecca feels they were setup, which they were (just not by Sam), but considering they didn’t get a single question right, it really doesn’t matter who they went up against.

Beauty and the Geek 4 Episode 3

In Beauty and the Geek 4 episode 2, Sam escaped the axe, which few people were happy about. Tony and Amanda ended up getting eliminated, which was pretty much expected since Tony was so shy and didn’t seem able to overcome it.

Everybody’s happy Natalie and John escaped elimination, or so it appears. Perhaps they’re just excited to have some alcohol.

Sam says the geeks have experience with knowledge, while he has experience with the stuff they don’t know anything about, namely girls, who for some reason aren’t creeped out by his eyes. He then starts up truth or dare. Rebecca is dared to do a sexy dance for John. She dares Sam to do a stripper dance for Nicole, but she says it’s uncomfortable, so he does it for the beauties. Nicole takes truth and says she’s attracted to someone in the house but doesn’t say who. She says in her confessional she wants to meet an “alphanerd.” Dave assumes it’s him. Rebecca and Sam are obviously attracted to each other. It’s not long before they’re kissing. She says she’s concerned because she’s there to find out who she is as a person, which apparently making out with a guy for three hours who she just met will assist with.

The beauties’ task is to learn about anatomy; the geeks’ task is to learn about courtship and romance.

The geeks go first, and they must pick out gift baskets to be judged by the beauties. Nicole’s happy because she believes she’s more in touch with what girls want than the guys are. Joshua gets a pie, which pretty quickly gets destroyed, and one of the beauties bets it’s his basket. Will seemingly just grabs a bunch of stuff without really thinking but manages to pull it together somehow. Jesse gets a pink hat and unicorn stickers.

The beauties are asked whether they studied hard. Of course they didn’t. The top two are Will and Jesse, and the winner is Will. After winning, Will decides to do storytime, reading The Tell Tale Heart to a bunch of people. Somehow, the editors managed to find a correlation between this and a makeout session with Rebecca and Sam. Odder still, some of the girls take offense to him telling them a story.

Next up is the beauties’ task, identifying and drawing body parts. The geeks must get in their underwear and let the beauties draw on them with fingerpaints. Everybody gets the heart right. When asked to identify the left earlobe, Sam and Shay get the earlobe part. Too bad it’s the right earlobe. Erin does the whole ear. Those three are eliminated. Then it’s the appendix. Katie is eliminated because it’s on the wrong side (she got her appendix taken out 4 years ago, though), Hollie and Natalie were too low, and Jasmine just guessed and went overboard. It’s between Rebecca and Jen, and they must locate the nasal septum. Jen tries the neck. Surely at least some of these girls had nosejobs.

Since Rebecca won, Sam thinks he’s safe until next time, but he’s forgetting about Will. Will’s between a rock and a hard place. If he doesn’t target Sam, he’s stuck with a partner whose attention is divided (even she knows it’s a distraction). If he does target Sam, he’s stuck with a partner who may hate him. It also means they have to pick both teams, so someone’s going to be coming back and may seek revenge. Beyond that, winning that challenge made him a big threat, which puts a big target on his back when he does lose. On the whole, nothing good came out of that win. If he were truly smart, he’d have thrown the challenge and let someone else do the dirty work.

Rebecca decides to send Hollie and Josh because she feels they don’t need much more improvement. Will sends Jesse and Erin because he hasn’t seen them interacting with anyone other than their partners. Erin starts crying and doesn’t feel the assessment is correct. She calls him a hypocrite since he hasn’t been making an effort with her either. Hollie, similarly, feels Rebecca is a hypocrite, since she’s not focused on her transformation and is more concerned with Sam. These are two pretty strong teams, so at least some good will come out of it since having one of them gone will help, though whichever girl survives will be out for blood, not just because they were sent but also because they were sent against a good friend.

The girls go first. Erin gets the first question correct, as does Hollie. Erin also gets the second question correct, and so does Hollie. Jesse gets his first question correct, as does Josh. Jesse gets his second question correct, but Josh misses his. Hollie and Josh are eliminated, but they have a very classy exit. I’m sure Erin and Jesse will be happy to seek revenge for them.

Beauty and the Geek 4 Episode 2

After the teams were picked by Joshua and Shay, episode 1 ended with the surprise introduction of the tenth team, composed of one guy who’s a beauty and one girl who’s a geek.

What’s the deal with Sam’s eyes? This guy’s creeping me out right away. One of the geeks was worried that their chances of hooking up with a beauty just got a lot worse, but I’m not seeing it, as the other guys are better choices than him, with a couple typical ringers who are good looking and will be even better off with a makeover. To make matters worse, he thinks he’ll be doing the girls a favor if he gets with them, as they need a confidence boost. Did they try to find the most obnoxious, conceited guy they could, as long as he had muscles and was decent looking (but still not as good looking as he thinks)? He’s most looking forward to hardcore partying with a bunch of hot girls. Yeah, this guy’s here for the right reasons. Regardless, I’m sure one of these girls is dumb enough to fall for him.

On the other hand, Nicole seems nice enough but is worried that the whole time she’s there, she’ll be the ugliest girl.

David tells Jasmine she was last on his list of partners. And this guy’s supposed to be smart?

The geeks are going to have a rapoff to be judged by Three 6 Mafia. The beauties are going to have a debate.

Tony’s afraid to practice his rap in front of Amanda, which is a wall she’s going to need to break through because having that extra person to bounce ideas off can be very useful.

The judges say they want to see Nicole’s booty. Shay wants to pull Joshua’s pants down some, but he’s afraid they’ll fall off. David thinks he’ll be great at this because he considers it another LARP, but the judges don’t get impressed by his performance until Jasmine turns it up a bit, as she says she loves shaking her butt in front of people. Will’s very comfortable up there and gets a very positive response from the judges. Half the geeks forgot the words. John really gets into character then adds to it with juggling.

Not surprisingly, Will and John get the votes from the judges. Between the two of them, they decide the winner of the two is Will.

The first debate is between Jasmine and Rebecca on the topic of raising the federal minimum wage. Both are terrible, but Jasmine’s smart enough to be able to get some laughs. Hollie and Natalie debate drilling for oil in ANWR. Hollie does a decent job. On the subject of G8 countries aiding third world countries, Katie gives a competent argument, easily beating Jen who says… nothing. Debating the drinking age being lowered, Sam seems to do okay because it’s the one subject he knows something about, Shay apparently wipes the floor with him, but then he comes back with a very good rebuttal.

The judges decide that Sam was the top debater. This is bad news for everybody but the producers, as the other teams were looking forward to kicking him out.

Jasmine and Natalie decide to spy on the deliberations about who’s going home (even though John warned them not to because it could create a reason for them to be booted) and find out that the decision is going to come down to who’s the biggest threat. Will catches them and is not happy.

Sam picks John and Natalie because they’re a threat. Will picks Amanda and Tony because he’s been overly passive. Tony’s afraid he let her down by being too shy.

The girls get two questions about politics. Natalie gets the first question wrong, as does Amanda. Natalie gets the second question right, taking a 1-0 lead. The guys get two questions about hiphop. Mike tries to act hip… don’t do that. John gets the first question right. Tony gets the next question wrong, and Tony and Amanda are eliminated. Tony had the most potential room for improvement between the two teams, but I think the right team stayed.

Beauty and the Geek 4 Episode 1

Nate and Jennylee are back and in search of new beauties and geeks. First stop is Boston. Just how much of these auditions is for real and how much is just made up for television? We may never know.

Do you know who won the Civil War? “Who was that between?” I’ve actually asked people that question before and gotten an answer not too far off that, so perhaps this is not that far fetched.

Mike then heads to Washington, DC.

What are you an expert at? “Being pretty.” Someone smack this chick.

Nate and Jennylee then head to Raleigh-Durham, NC.

Nate gets lost in a conversation about Risk. Yeah, you can tell he’s still a geek.

Table tennis is otherwise known as ping pong. “Not to me.”
What do you like in a guy? “Money.”
What is your IQ? “Slightly over not too dumb.”
What is your favorite part of your body? “Does my shoes count?”
“You’ve probably seen Forest Gump before. He’s one of my heroes.”

Next stop for Mike: Chicago.

What are the three branches of the US government? “There’s branches?”
When was the last time you kissed a girl? “Well, there was one ‘incident’ back in January.”
What’s the last book you’ve read? “Well, since I’ve been in school, I haven’t been reading.”

Nate and Jennylee then head to Little Rock, Arkansas. Where they have time to do their nails. Yep, nobody’s showing up there.

What is your IQ? “I don’t know. I’m like a 3 point… B average.”

Mike should have more luck finding people in LA. While there, he runs into Tyson, who insists anyone can learn to do Rubik’s Cube. Then it’s time for the auditions.

Do you have a girlfriend? “No. Are you kidding me?” Why? “Math makes me very excited.”
“I like foreign languages.” Do you speak a foreign language? “No, but I tell people I do.”

Nate and Jennylee go to Vegas, wondering if there’s any chance they’ll find geeks there. Nope, just a bunch of women with fake boobs.

What is your IQ? “Like 7 maybe.” Yeah, she’s not exaggerating either.
Who wrote Beethoven’s 5th? “I don’t read books.”

More info (age, profession, hometown) is in the cast revealed post.

“I just don’t go places where there are people that… study,” reveals Jasmine.

Nobody wants to go first to meet the beauties, but Will finally volunteers. He’s a fan of music of science fiction and fantasy. He thinks it might be better to live in a fantasy world. Hollie plays Betty Boop at Universal Studios. Dave enters with his LARPer (live action role playing) routine. He actually does seem to have impressed the girls with this, though. Amanda, an aspiring Playboy model, is proud of having paid $8,000 for her boobs. Josh is the president of a rubber band club.

Jen’s big on being fit and can probably benchpress more than all the guys in the house at 135 pounds. Rebecca goes to school for massage therapy. Luke volunteers very quickly for a demonstration. William is disastrously nervous. Natalie is the “ultimate Hooters girl.” She ties a cherry stem with her tongue. Joshua’s very nervous and ends up calling his mother so she can explain why he’s a good partner.

Shalandra likes to sing, dance, and shop. Luke designs robots. Katie’s good at finding Waldo in Where’s Waldo? and makes great peanutbutter & jelly sandwiches. Erin asks if anyone goes to a salon to get their hair done. That would be a no. Tony teaches the girls how to tie a bowtie. Jasmine was a cheerleader and does a cheer for the guys.

After there are introductions, Mike reveals that they won’t be picking teams. At least not right away. They’re going to give everyone a night to sleep on it together, at the first Beauty and the Geek slumber party under the stars. This actually makes sense. Much better than just picking someone at random based on a few minutes and first impressions. They get into a hot tub, where it’s revealed some of the guys need to shave their backs, and pretty much everybody is on top of each other. They must then pick cabanas, some coed, some not. Even still, there’s concern that they don’t know each other well enough to start picking people.

The first challenge is that the girls will undergo an intellectual analysis, while the guys will take a social skills analysis.

The guys must draw their ideal girlfriend. They must then kiss a mannequin. This is followed by an inkblot test. Horribly uncomfortable because it’s obvious the woman administering the test is a shrink, and they know she’s being shrinklike. The girls must name, in alphabetical order, as many countries as possible. Then it’s time for a math word problem. Lastly, they have to read something including big words.

Shay says, “The guy who created math, I mean, he obviously had nothing else to do that day because… it’s so boring.”

Shay and Joshua are called up and think they got the highest scores, but they actually got the lowest scores on the tests… which means they won the first challenge. With that, they are allowed to choose their own teammates… and everyone else’s. Lame twist, but it does add an element of strategy to the game.

At least they get an hour to do it so that the others can tell them who they want to be with. Shay asks whether they should team up together, and Joshua points out that they’re the worst two and as such wouldn’t make a good pair. Somehow, she gets her way. Joshua’s rationale is that they won’t be seen as a threat.

The teams are:
Shay & Joshua (nobody else gets why either)
Amanda & Tony (at Amanda’s request)
Jasmine & David (he’s not happy, and she doesn’t know who he is)
Erin & Jesse (Erin’s pleased)
Natalie & John
Jen & William (he’s surprised and disappointed)
Rebecca & Will
Hollie & Josh (she and Luke both wanted to be with each other)
Katie & Luke (she’s happy because Luke’s the ringer this year who’s not really that much of a geek)

Now it’s time for one last twist. One beauty is a man, and one geek is a woman. They will be the tenth and final team. And that’s where we leave off.

Stay tuned to dingoRUE for another live blog of Beauty and the Geek 4 episode 2, which airs Tuesday at 8/7c on The CW.
