American Inventor 2 Auditions

Are you Mr. or Mrs. Creative? Maybe you’re an engineer with a cool new idea? Or maybe you’re just an average joe that likes to tinker, either way, the hit reality TV series American Inventor kicks off it’s second season auditions on March 18th in Los Angeles. Head to Hollywood and try your luck for a shot at a the $1-million grand prize, along with the lucrative opportunity to have your product created, marketed and sold all over the world.

Auditions are open not only to singles, but to groups, teams and anyone with at least a sketch of their product, though a prototype or concept is always going to give you better odds at making the coveted final three.

The first season of American Inventor was incredibly under appreciated. Even though it’s another one of American Idol host Simon Cowell‘s works, unlike his others, this one is actually original and interesting! Janusz Liberkowski of Los Gatos, Calif. won the first edition of American Inventor for his invention – the “survival capsule” – a revolutionary take on the common car seat, and if the first season was any indication of what we can expect to see in the second, it’s sure to be a great show!

I look forward to seeing what fantastic inventions come out of the second season, and even more so to the absolutely stupid and pointless inventions that are doomed to fail – like the head mounted toilet paper dispenser.

You can find a full list of all the American Inventor 2 audition cities and dates after the jump!

Think you have what it takes to be the next American Inventor? Test your luck and give an audition a shot!

  1. I was there in Los Angeles I saw some good stuff but I was surprised to see inventions that according to the show’s eligibility requirements were not eligible to submit and past the first and/or second round.

    On page 2 it states:

Any other inventor who participated in season 1 other than described above is eligible to again participate in season 2 with a new invention so long as all the Invention Eligibility Requirements are met.

There was a person in season 1 who made it to the show and was eliminated in the early rounds. He had this blue doll he called it the Therapy Buddy. Well he was back with the same invention the same blue doll and made it past the judges.

The Invention Eligibility Requirements posted on the website stated:

    1. The invention must be a new and useful consumer product that can be marketed and sold directly to consumers through retail outlets.
    2. The invention must be able to be, in the Producer’s discretion, feasibly developed, manufactured and distributed in high volume to the general public.

I saw inventions such as a musical instrument that would retail between $2,000 to $5,000 or that were commercial products which the market, for them was so small that the volume of yearly sales couldn’t amount to more than a few thousand units.

I invented an ice chest that can be rolled on nearly all surfaces including sand, which met all the requirements. I too was asked to come back on Wednesday to continue to the next round. On Tuesday night, I was called by the producers and told they changed their minds, I was no longer invited back on Wednesday.

It will be interesting if any of the above invention made it to the show. Am I a sore looser? Maybe I am but if you saw what I did you would be too.

  2. I’m sorry to hear that you were cut, especially by phone and after getting approved earlier in the day, that’s awfully lame of them to do to someone.

Thank you very much for all the information though, best of luck in getting your invention picked up.

    Cheers,
    Greg

  11. I appeared on the first season as a semi-finalist! I’m the only inventor from season 1 and 2 to make it to the market with their invention. Some have said, “I’m the real winner not the reality show winner.” I am now helping inventors get their invention pitched to companies that can take it soup to nuts. I don’t believe there will be another season of the show due lack of marketing for the show. There was no indication at the last licensing show that they were promoting it. My gut tells me there is no show coming. If I can help out my fellow inventor. Feel free to contact me and I’ll do my best to pitch your invention in the “REAL WORLD.

  12. A friend of mine just called from San Francisco, disappointed that he drove all the way there for 2008 auditions and there is nothing there. The American Inventor website was just taken down sometime in the last 2 weeks and it contained the 2007 audition schedule. He said the hotel said other people showed up as well.

Shame on ABC for not either updating the site or taking it down as soon as the show was not renewed for the 2008 season. The site continued to take reservations and download the 40-pg application.

  13. Hi, i thought that the season 2 american inventor auditions wasn’t Tampa one of them before? what happened? are they no longer coming to Tampa?

  14. I applaud all the above comments….where is the year on your audition schedule, and your website was up recently & was taken down recently, are there auditions for 2008? if not, please advise and is the above schedule dates from 2007 or is that 2008? What is the schedule for 2008? if any

    Thanks

  15. please let me know where to find american inventor audition for houston 2008. the location where it will take place and the application info…thanks

  16. What the Hell!!!!!!!!!!
I spent $1000 on my prototype and was set to go to Houston next week. I swear the website said “2008 audition cities” when I printed off my application a month ago.
    Extremely disappointed

  17. Apr 4 2008. Went to Broad St. Ballroom; & was told that auditions were held there last year, & no one there knew where they were supposed to be this year — but it wasn’t there. I was a bit late, however, another would be auditioner spoke to me & said he didn’t know what’s going on.

  18. I am interested in knowing when the next show will be in 2008 ?i don’t know where to finfd the dates and times.

  19. Shame on ABC for not either updating the site or taking it down as soon as the show was not renewed for the 2008 season. The site continued to take reservations and download the 40-pg application.

You can’t blame ABC. They didn’t own that site. Fremantle did and still does. ABC removed all American Inventor material from ABC.com months before that. It’s also untrue that the site “took reservations.” All it did was provide 2007 dates and the PDF forms. It clearly said “audition dates for 2007.” If you don’t pay attention to the year, that’s your fault.
