Dana and Adrian Amazing Race 16

The Vampire Diaries Season 1 Episode 11

Closing out the first half of the season in The Vampire Diaries Season 1 Episode 10, Elena found out about Katherine, which caused her to flip out and flip her car.

Damon comes to the rescue. Not overly concerned about the fact that she could well be dying, her response to him is “I look like her.” When she wakes up in Georgia, Elena tells Damon he has kidnapped her, and she’s not going to Georgia. Except she’s in Georgia. Without her magic little necklace. Stefan calls on Elena’s phone, which Damon answers, and tells Stefan to have a good day and hangs up. Damon promises Elena she will be safe, and he will not do that mind control thing on her. He, however, will not promise that she can trust him.

Stefan heads to Bonnie, hoping she can use Elena’s necklace to make a connection. Nothing. There’s something wrong with Bonnie.

Damon’s destinaton: a bar outside Atlanta. He starts making out with the first woman he sees. She seems to know him. Turns out she’s a witch.

Bonnie fears that her powers are gone. Her grams warns her that she’s not going to find anything in any books. Whatever has her so scared needs to be cleared out.

Damon’s mission is to get into that tomb, but Bree tells him there’s no way in without a crystal.

When she goes out to think, Bonnie falls into a hole in the ground. Her grandma trusts Stefan will keep her safe, although she doesn’t intend to invite him inside.

Jeremy has decided that vampires were merely a metaphor for the demons of the day, the Union soldiers.

Stefan has managed to locate Bonnie. He guessed where. She heard them down there behind the door of the tomb. Stefan assures her she’s safe because the crystal has been destroyed.

Bree’s called another vampire to the scene to attack Damon. He seems upset because Damon killed his girlfriend Lexi. Elena begs him to be better than Damon and not set him on fire. He obliges. Upon recovering, Damon kills Bree.

Stefan tells Elena that the first time they met was the day their parents went off the bridge, not that day in school. Her dad was still alive in that car, but he didn’t want help until Elena was helped. After that, he spent months making sure she was not Katherine, realizing she’s nothing like her in the process.

So why does she look like her? She was adopted.

Jeremy’s new friend Anna has dug up some articles. Every so many years, there’s a series of animal attacks in the area. All the people involved in those attacks have been drained of blood.

When she returns home, Elena gets an earful from Aunt Jenna about lying. That said, she has a question: is she adopted?

Alaric knows Damon’s face quite clearly. It’s the face of the man who killed the woman he loved.

American Idol Season 9 Episode 4

Chicago brought us Katelyn Epperly, Charity Vance, Angela Martin, John Park, and Paige Dechausse in American Idol Season 9 Episode 3. Tonight we head to Orlando with guest judge Kristin Chenoweth (for half the show anyway).

Theo Glinton plans to waste time. At that, he succeeds.

Seth Rollins hopes to win to be able to afford to take care of his autistic son. He sings Someone to Watch over Me by Frank Sinatra. Kristin likes his voice and everything about him. Randy would like to see more energy.

Jermaine Purifoy was cut back in season 7, but he admits he was not ready. He sings Smile by Tony Bennett. Kristin loves him. Randy’s favorite of the season.

Shelby Dressel had an undeveloped nerve when she was born, causing her to be unable to smile correctly, which has made her nervous appearing in front of people. She sings Turn Me on by Nora Jones. Simon likes her but wasn’t blown away with the voice. She gets a reserved yes, though.

Jay Stone sings (if you can call it that) Come Together by The Beatles. He appears to believe he’s Blake Lewis (but better). He’s not. Kara found that pretty amazing. Randy gives in and also lets him through.

Janell Wheeler, Brittany Starr James, and Kasi Bedford are also going to Hollywood.

Cornelius Edwards sings Proud Mary by Tina Turner. Or at least he tries before splitting his pants. Regardless, he’s going to Hollywood.

Like Charity last night, sisters Bernadette and Amanda Desimone sing in the salon in their house. Kara kinda likes something about them. Randy’s willing to give them one more shot. Simon would have said no to Amanda.

Jarrod Norrell is a disaster waiting to happen. He sings Amazing Grace. It’s worse than I anticipated. Kara asks: what was that? It sounded like a lawnmower. Jarrod’s not leaving until he gets a yes. That ain’t happening, so security has to escort him out. Unwilling to leave peacefully, he’s cuffed and dragged out by four guys.

Matt Lawrence (not the guy from Boy Meets World) is there for redemption. When he was 15, he went on “an adventure,” robbing a bank with a BB gun, and ending up in jail for 4 years. He sings Trouble by Ray LaMontagne. Simon felt that was authentic, and it’s his easiest yes of the day. Kara predicts he will be in the top 12.

American Idol Season 9 Episode 3

Atlanta brought us Jermaine Sellers, Mallorie Haley, Bryan Walker, and Skii Bo Ski in American Idol Season 9 Episode 2. Oh, and we also got treated to a song called Pants on the Ground. Tonight we go to Chicago with guest judge Shania Twain.

Katelyn Epperly has decided to try out for Idol following her parents’ divorce. She sings Syrup & Honey by Duffy. The judges see potential.

Amy Lang is crushing on Ryan, the first celebrity she ever had an inappropriate dream about. She sings Dr. Feelgood by Aretha Franklin. The judges can’t take her and her boob shaking seriously.

Charity Vance practices performing in her parents’ house/salon. She sings Summertime. Randy liked the interesting sound. Simon thought that was great.

Angela Martin is back for her third and final time. The last two times she was cut in Hollywood, dropping out last year due to a traffic warrant. It goes without saying she will be heading to Hollywood again.

Curley Newbern sings This Woman’s Work by Maxwell. Simon asks if a lot of animals turn up outside his house when he sings.

Brian Krause believes he was in the army in Korea. What the bloody hell is this? He swears on his mother’s life that the high pitched voice and tip toeing through the tulips is really him. His plan now is to slip into a warm bubble bath and relax.

Harold Davis has spirit, soul, and everything he needs to be the greatest. Except talent.

John Park sings I Love You More Than You’ll Ever Know. Shania tells him he has a beautiful bottom end and nice lips. What program am I watching again? The other judges agree with her and put him through to Hollywood.

Paige Dechausse went into anaphylactic shock when she was 15 due to her asthma. The doctors gave her a 30% chance of surviving, and she’d probably have brain damage if she did. She sings A Change Is Gonna Come by Sam Cook. Simon thought it was a little bit indulgent and says no. Now that’s just silly. The other three say yes, although they’re not entirely convinced.

Justin Ray, Keith Semple, and Marcus Jones finish off the night with golden tickets.

The Biggest Loser Season 9 Episode 3

Patti & Stephanie fell below the yellow line in The Biggest Loser Season 9 Episode 2, and Patti decided to go home so that her daughter could stay.

This is student/teacher week. One person will be the teacher, while the other is the student. The student is the only one who will represent the team on the scale. The students will not be allowed to train with the trainers. Instead, the teachers will train and must pass on what they’ve learned. Since they don’t have teammates, John and Stephanie will be together. To win their first temptation, all they have to do is eat more than anybody else. Each piece of candy has 5 calories. The person who eats the most will be able to decide who are the teachers and who are the students. Sherry and Michael are the only ones to eat in round 1. Michael decides to hand the power to Sherry, who wins after only having eaten 10 calories.

Black Team: Andrea is the teacher; Darrell is the student
Brown/Purple Team: Stephanie is the teacher; John is the student
Grey Team: Sam is the teacher; Koli is the student
Red Team: Melissa is the teacher; Lance is the student
Orange Team: Cheryl is the teacher; Daris is the student
Green Team: Migdalia is the teacher; Miggy is the student
White Team: Michael is the teacher; Maria is the student
Pink Team: Sherry is the teacher; Ashley is the student

Migdalia is angry about the choice that was made, though she denies it after Bob pushes her multiple times. With Bob not making a dent, Jillian takes on Migdalia next. Jillian’s worried that if she screams like a crazy person, Migdalia will walk out. Well, when has that stopped her before? Bob tells her to just be mean. So Jillian lays into her about her 9 year old daughter and refusal to show emotion. Jillian keeps pushing and tries to get Migdalia to answer questions about why she’s there. She just answers with vagueness. Then she says she’s done. If Jillian doesn’t smack this girl, I hope her mama does. Jillian begs and pleads but is unable to get past the wall. Migdalia wants to go home. Go then. There are plenty of people who would willingly take your spot. After this, Jillian approaches Miggy instead. Perhaps she could talk some sense into her daughter.

From there, Jillian sends in the good cop. Bob wants to know what the hell happened. Migdalia is there to learn to eat healthy and exercise. She doesn’t need anybody to tell her she’s got problems. Oh boy. Bob tells her he cares about her, and she agrees not to quit. Then Miggy chimes in with excuses. They won’t change the way they are. That’s a problem. Their attitudes haven’t helped them in their weight loss goals previously. Healthy eating and exercise are all well and good, but it’ll be so easy to quit those if you can’t work on the personal issues behind the weight gain.

Curtis Stone pays them another visit. His lesson is about portion sizes. He reveals restaurant dishes with thousands of calories. Then he prepares a 4 ounce chicken dish that contains only 300 calories per serving.

Miggy seems to be getting somewhere with Migdalia. Slowly. Miggy suggests that Migdalia needs to learn to express herself, rather than getting angry and fighting. Maybe she does need help. Maybe she is willing to get help.

The teacher from each team will unwind 1000 feet of ribbon through a playground. Students will then draw for which ribbon they will have to untangle. The first team to unravel the ribbon and return it back wins immunity. Additionally, they will be able to choose one team to switch student and teacher. After the teachers are done, everybody’s hoping they just don’t get the white ribbon. Mike made an extra effort to twist and tie it up and make it as difficult as possible. Remember that whole random drawing thing? Yeah, that was just a joke. Students will be bringing in their own colored ribbon. Blindfolded.

Lance is looking forward to this. As a commercial diver, he’s been in black water plenty. Daryl, however, is not. He starts to struggle right away. 15 minutes in, pink team is still on their first obstacle, with communication that’s just not working in a blindfolded scenario. Mike’s plan, meanwhile, has backfired. After half an hour, the pink team’s still on the first obstacle. Red is looking to win their second immunity in a row, while the grey team makes a dash toward the finish line. Grey team wins in a close race.

Ashley’s having second thoughts about the choices they made earlier. Pink team seems to have stacked the deck against themselves by putting Ashley up against mostly big men. It’s hard to argue that their choices were bad ones, though.

At the weigh-in, the grey team has decided to switch the white team, putting Michael in the hot seat.

And then… election coverage. Coakley has conceded. Well, that should get interesting. Meanwhile, the weigh-in continues off screen, which leaves me with having to pull the numbers from the scoreboard.

Darrell: 3.22%

John: 3.10%

Lance: 3.57%

Daris: 2.90%

Miggy: 3.20%

Michael: 2.08%

Ashley: 3.48%

Jillian says that Melissa threw the weigh-in again this week, like she did last week. Lucky thing the grey team didn’t switch them. Jillian and Bob confront Melissa, who continues to deny it. This evolves into a silly argument where everybody starts screaming.

That puts the white team below the yellow line. The grey team’s switch had no impact (except it may cause some animosity from Michael toward them) since Maria also would have been at the bottom. This early in the game, it’s hard to imagine them voting out a 481 pound person. Maria wants to leave and says that sending Michael home will kill him. Correction: 30 years of bad habits would be the cause here, not a vote on a reality show. Nonetheless, I don’t think he has anything to worry about. John, however, views Michael still being there as an insult. He knows what it’s like to be 500 pounds, too, but at least he’s putting in the effort.

Votes
Cheryl & Daris: Maria
John & Stephanie: Michael
Andrea & Darrell: Maria
Sam & Koli: Maria
Melissa & Lance: Maria

With 4 votes, Maria is not The Biggest Loser. The contestants have, reluctantly, voted to keep Michael here, with a message that he needs to try harder.
