The Biggest Loser Season 11 Episode 12

Marci finally got her wish in The Biggest Loser Season 11 Episode 11, as she was able to go home so the kids and other parents could stay.

They’re going to split into four teams, one team for each trainer. There are 12 weights, each with a color underneath it. Blue for Bob, black for Jillian, green for Cara, and red for Brett. They go in order of percentage of weight loss from highest to lowest.

Bob: Moses, Irene, Olivia
Jillian: Rulon, Hannah,
Brett: Justin, Jennifer, Courtney
Cara: Austin, Ken, Kaylee

Justin is happy where he ends up. Jen does not get her first choice in Jillian. Moses wanted to stick with Cara, but he gets Bob, who always ends up with the Tongans. Jillian is thrilled to get her hands on Rulon. Olivia gets Bob but has been separated from Hannah. Ken and Austin are the first couple to remain together. Courtney is sent to the other side. Kaylee remains with Cara.

That leaves Jillian’s team as the odd one out, having only two people compared to the other teams’ three. Hannah and Rulon are now left with the option of which eliminated player they want back. I don’t know. Is there a smart choice that both of them will be happy with? I’d say the only options are Arthur or Jay. Justin wants to see Q, possibly Larialmy, or Sarah. Really? Rulon has no interest in seeing Arthur return. He’d be fine with Jay. Jillian thinks Arthur will struggle in challenge but has a ton of weight to lose, while Jay would be good for the team but a big threat.

Having been on the boxing team for the first couple months, Moses gets his first taste of Bob’s spin class, which proves to be a big challenge for him.

So that they can relax for the day, Jillian invites her new black team to her house. Of course, they’re going to start off with a workout first. Rulon says that, in spite of being married, he ate to fill the void of not having true love.

Brett takes his new team on a hike. Justin feels like he’s become somebody special.

It goes without saying that the green team is off to the boxing ring. Austin’s about to get hit for the first time, feeling now that he can really fight back.

Now we learn the decision Hannah and Rulon made to round out the black team: Jay. This choice bodes better for Hannah than it does for Rulon, but Jay should make a good addition to their team. They weighed him in today, and he has lost 111 pounds so far. Since he was just weighed in today, he will be immune this week, and his weight will not count.

Each team has a pulley with all the weight they have lost so far, which is pretty even, except that the black team about 30 pounds ahead of the others. That weight is hanging above a tank of water. All they have to do is keep it that way. They are playing for a video chat from home. They say this feels pretty light to start off. That won’t last long. Just before the half an hour mark, the green team is the first to let go. It turns out that Rulon has a shoulder injury, so his team is the next team to fall. At 45 minutes, they’ll pick one hand, and by this time they’re just an inch or two above the water. Justin’s out, leaving his team’s fate in the hands of the other two. Then Moses drops, and his team follows. Red team wins the challenge. They have decided to give their chats to the blue team instead, though.

Moses says he’s thinking about quitting, but his wife is having no part of that. Like her father, Kaylee says she is ready to go home. She’s close to her goal weight and feels she has achieved everything she needs to emotionally. Whether that’s true or not, being on the ranch is the chance of a lifetime that I can’t see just throwing the towel in early on. Throwing yourself on the sword after falling below the yellow line is bad enough, but I don’t get this not wanting to be there just for the sake of it. Coincidentally enough, this revelation comes the week after she gained two pounds. With a week like that and two weeks at home resulting in a 1 pound weight loss, I fail to see how she’s learned enough to leave.

All four teams will weigh in, and the team with the lowest percentage of weight loss will face elimination, with the decision to be made by the other three teams.

Jay: 282 pounds (-7, 2.42%, immune)
Hannah: 172 pounds (-4, 2.27%)
Rulon: 330 pounds (-5, 1.49%)
Black Total: 784 pounds (-16, 2.00%; -9, 1.76% excluding Jay’s loss)

Moses: 300 pounds (-3, 0.99%)
Irene: 173 pounds (-5, 2.81%)
Olivia: 180 pounds (-5, 2.70%)
Blue Total: 653 pounds (-13, 1.95%)

Jen: 187 pounds (-4, 2.09%)
Courtney: 234 pounds (-3, 1.27%) – over 200 pounds lost since she started
Justin: 247 pounds (-2, 0.80%)
Red Total: 668 pounds (-9, 1.33%)

Kaylee asked her team to do something really hard. Oh geez. She’s throwing the weigh in.

Kaylee: 174 pounds (no change)
Austin: 272 pounds (-3, 1.09%)
Ken: 263 pounds (-7, 2.59%)
Green Total: 709 pounds (-10, 1.39%)

Once we learn that the green team is safe, there’s an immediate bleep from the onlookers. If you want to quit, just quit. Make room for someone who actually wants to be there. Otherwise, at least try harder to throw a weigh in and gain 17 pounds or something. Alison has a message: if you want to leave, just leave. This is not a prison. Or Big Brother. She can leave right now and be out of the game, but the game will continue without her, including the elimination of a red. Her father wants her to stay. What’s the point if she’ll just do the same thing next week? Anyway, Kaylee has decided to stay.

Jen put up a middle of the road number, enough to make her safe as the Biggest Loser on the losing team, leaving Justin and Courtney in danger following their low numbers. Rough decision. Justin says that Courtney needs to stick around to finish her journey. However, Courtney says everybody looks to him as the leader, and she doesn’t want to take that away.

X Factor Auditions

The X Factor auditions kick off this coming weekend on Sunday March 27. 6 audition cities are currently planned:

Chicago – April 27
Dallas – May 26
Los Angeles – March 27
Miami – April 7
New York City/New Jersey – April 14
Seattle – April 20

Contestants can audition either solo or in a group in this competition for TV’s biggest prize, a $5 million recording contract.

Those interested in participating in these tryouts can register on Fox’s website.

LA Reid Is X Factor Judge

The first The X Factor judge is not named Paula. Dodged a bullet there for now. Antonio “L.A.” Reid will be joining Simon Cowell on the judging panel of the new singing competition.

“I am proud to stand next to my dear friend Simon Cowell, one of the world’s most gifted and charismatic talent magnets,” said Reid. “THE X FACTOR provides an extraordinary opportunity for aspiring artists of every age and genre to showcase their unique talents. I truly look forward to discovering our next generation of superstars.”

“L.A. was my number one choice to sit alongside me on the show. In my opinion, he is one of the greatest ever music executives and of course a fantastic writer and producer. I am thrilled he has agreed to join the show, and for any artist auditioning, they know they have the chance to meet a true star-maker,” said Simon Cowell.

“L.A. Reid is one of the most celebrated music producers and songwriters of our time and knows exactly what it takes to find and nurture a global superstar,” said Mike Darnell, President of Alternative Entertainment, Fox Broadcasting Company. “Not only does he have an insanely good eye for talent, but he also has the personality and savvy to go toe-to-toe with Simon Cowell, so I can’t wait to see those two music moguls together at THE X FACTOR judges’ table.”

“L.A. Reid’s renowned expertise in recognizing, producing and marketing musical talent is synonymous with some of the most successful recording artists in the history of modern music,” said executive producer Cecile Frot-Coutaz. “I am thrilled to have him judging on THE X FACTOR and look forward to seeing him apply his amazing experience and track record in the mentoring of one of our categories.”

The Celebrity Apprentice 4 Episode 3

Lisa Rinna seemed to be out of her depth in The Celebrity Apprentice 4 Episode 2, and the bitches she was surrounded by took advantage of that, leading to her firing.

The men’s win seems to have escaped them already, so Meat Loaf and Gary Busey exchange words before the ladies come back out of the boardroom.

Star tells the women they’re on their own next time. At least now they’ll get the font right. NeNe doesn’t buy it. Star will be back again trying to take over because that’s who she is.

The task is to create an outdoor camping experience to display Camping World’s products and RVs. They will be judged on brand messaging, originality, and overall presentation.

Niki Taylor will be the project manager for the women. Gary Busey will be the project manager for the men (good luck).

The teams will have to negotiate for which campers they want. The men like the one that looks like a tour bus, while the women like the one that looks like it’s for families, so this negotiation process is simple.

After they get done talking, now it’s time for Jose to voice his opinion. He’s not too sure about their choice. A little late for that.

For somebody who was no longer interested in being in control, Star doesn’t waste any time taking over the conversation when they meet the executive from Camping World. Everybody else would love to say something, but they’re not having much luck.

Gary and Lil Jon are already not getting along. Richard Hatch has his seat belt on, expecting a bumpy ride. Meat Loaf is confused where they’re heading.

The women have a theme picked out, a 21st century camping experience. How that differs from a 20th century camping experience I don’t know. They arrive at the Camping World store before the guys, and it’s first come, first served. As the other women run around like crazy at the store, Dionne takes her time slowly roaming around and not doing much.

John Rich comes up with an idea to create a Camping World song. Jose wants to be on record that he’s against that, too. It’s too hickish. This leads to a debate with Richard Hatch, who wants to use something other than country, for fear that its audience is perceived as less educated.

By the time the men finally arrive at the store, the women have a huge stack of supplies already outside. They have so much stuff that they start to become overwhelmed. The men, who arrived long after the women, also depart before them.

The guys decide the need trees to make it look more campy. Mark McGrath gets some trees. He informs Gary of this, telling him to set aside a few hundred bucks. Richard gets some trees, too. Gary gives him the okay as well. Mark agrees to cancel his order, at which time Gary denies knowledge of it. When Mark goes to cancel, he finds out he won’t be charged anything. I’d think they should now just cancel Hatch’s order and spend the $900 on something else, but they appear to be ready to just take both.

Star is not happy that she’s been left behind without much instruction, so she takes this as an opportunity to take control again..

Meanwhile, models Hope and Niki go off to the graphics designer. Their first order of business is to figure out what century it is.

Ivanka arrives on the boys’ RV to find Jose just sitting around. She’ll have trouble getting more than a few words out of him, certainly not anything positive.

The men still don’t have a theme. Gary is unconcerned, just sitting around and relaxing with Jose.

At 6:30, Star calls Niki to say she doesn’t know what the experience is going to be. Niki finds this amusing, responding “We’re camping.” She says they should go to Home Depot for some greenery, which Star calls “very complicated.” When she gets back, Niki sends Dionne and La Toya to Home Depot, but they want to go to Bed Bath & Beyond first.

Mark McGrath is convinced his team has lost. While he panics in the RV, Gary and Jose play catch outside, so Mark takes a video, hoping Trump won’t be so enamored with Gary’s 1979 Academy Award nomination when he sees this. When they return from the printers, John Rich and Meat Loaf don’t think anything has been done. As they carry stuff around, Jose just stays put in his chair.

Unsurprisingly, Dionne and La Toya did not end up going to Home Depot last night, so the women have settled on ballons instead of trees. On the other hand, the men have plenty of greenery, allowing Mark to think that maybe this might not be such a slaughter after all.

When Don Jr. arrives, Niki refuses to say anybody is an issue. Adding to that, she says that, if they don’t win, it’s probably her fault. Marlee’s not quite as shy, and she still doesn’t like Dionne.

While she’s giving her tour, Niki still doesn’t know what century it is.

Hope starts off the tour and shows some people around. From there, they don’t know where to go. Dionne doesn’t like that Hope is stepping on her toes, and she should be outside, rather than in Dionne’s camper. Niki doesn’t want any part of Dionne’s tirade, but Star is okay if she continues.

The Camping World exec seems to be enjoying himself watching the guys in action. Then he asks Meat Loaf what’s behind that big banner he hung up. Turns out it was a TV they never noticed.

Unlike the men, who had prominently, if perhaps inappropriately, placed banners, the women placed their signs on the outskirts where they were not really noticeable.

The exec liked that the women had a high level of knowledge. La Toya could get a job as a salesperson for the company. The lack of branding, however, was a problem. For the men, John Rich did a good job with music, Jose was playing catch with fans, their landscaping was good, and they had a lot of signage. However, they neglected the inside, which looked it was decorated by men.

Niki does not want to pick a favorite. She’s not sure they won, though.

Hope thinks she was a good project manager, and everyone got along. Even Star was happy with how well they worked together.

Needless to say, Dionne is the sour apple of the bunch. Marlee thinks Dionne works when she’s given a task, but doesn’t go beyond what she’s asked.

Richard does not think Gary was a good leader. John was disappointed. Meat Loaf thought he was good, in situations. Mark says the team was strong enough to overcome his inadequacies. Lil Jon thought they lacked direction, and it was a train wreck.

Gary feels he’s being ganged up on by a group of people within his team, who may have an alliance. He believes Lil Jon is the weak link because he was difficult to communicate with.

On an unrelated note, Marlee noticed that Gary had trouble hearing, so she set him up with a doctor, who made him a hearing aid. Turns out he’s been legally deaf for 22 years.

Ivanka points out Jose’s lack of energy. He claims it was just a 5 minute break.

Having heard positive things about John’s performance, Trump asks him to sing his theme song in the boardroom.

In spite of the men having dug apart their project manager and having another airtight scapegoat in Jose, they have won the task. Gary will receive $20,000 from Trump plus $20,000 from Camping World for his charity the Center for Head Injury Services, which he supports since he had a traumatic injury in 1988 after he was thrown off his motorcycle without a helmet.

The men may have won, but they are already bickering before they even get back to the suite.

Niki accepts responsibility for her team’s loss. She refuses to blame anybody else. You don’t have to fire her because she quits, in spite of the fact that she’s one of the stronger people on her team.

The Amazing Race 18 Episode 5

Nobody was eliminated in The Amazing Race 18 Episode 4, and as such Kent & Vyxsin were unable to be put out of their misery just yet.

Returning to where we left off, Kent & Vyxsin have just realized that their fanny pack containing their passports, without which they cannot proceed, is missing. Somebody turned the pack in, so they are now free to begin racing again, still behind the rest of the pack.

In spite of all the drama, including a 1 week cliffhanger, all teams are now together. The earliest (and only) train departs at 7PM, and everybody will be on that. However, because they “chose” to take an alternate flight (chose meaning had no other choice because they were too incompetent to get to the airport in time), they will incur a 30 minute penalty at the next pit stop. They plan to not tell anybody about this penalty, but it would not be hard to guess. For that matter, Ron & Christina should be getting one, too, since they didn’t take a bus as instructed.

Once in Kunming, teams head for their first clue, which tells them they must travel by taxi to the Golden Horse and Jade Cock Memorial Archways (aka The Golden Arches, not to be confused with McDonald’s). Jet & Cord end up taking somebody’s taxi, which we later find out was the Globetrotters.

Zev & Justin aren’t even trying to keep it a secret that they’re following Ron & Christina.

The detour is a choice between honor the past and embrace the future. In honor the past, they must watch a traditional Tibetan performance, testing their powers of perception and memory, placing a set of 15 dolls in the order in which the characters appeared on stage. In embrace the future, teams must offload a complete solar water heating system, carry it to the roof of a building, and properly install it.

Honor the past: Ron & Christina, Zev & Justin, Kisha & Jen, Gary & Mallory
Embrace the future: Margie & Luke, Flight Time & Big Easy, Jaime & Cara, Kent & Vyxsin, Jet & Cord

Zev & Justin are wrong on their first guess. Ron & Christina are as well. Zev & Justin, however, are correct on their second guess, and it would seem that they have picked a fairly simple task. Kisha & Jen finish behind them. Both teams just wait for Ron & Christina to finish, since they know where they’re going. Although the other task does not seem particularly difficult either, it will be more physically demanding.

The Chinese Minority Heritage Center is their next stop, and they must locate it based on a photo. A double U-turn is ahead. Zev & Justin and Kisha & Jen find out that following somebody who speaks the language does not necessarily guarantee success, seeing as all three teams have now gone to the wrong place.

Margie & Luke decide not to U-turn. Jet & Cord make the same decision. Kent and Jaime arrive at the U-turn mat at the same time. Pretending he’s going to make an alternate decision and ignoring the advice of the three women behind him, Kent decides to U-turn Jaime & Cara, rather than the Globetrotters. This just seems to be U-turning for the sake of U-turning, and should not have much impact other than to bump the girls down a couple spots. Jaime & Cara decide to U-turn the Globetrotters before heading off to do the other detour. The Globetrotters are currently in last place, so this additional task will only add to that.

Zev & Justin have opted to break away from Ron & Christina, so now they are lost, with Gary & Mallory blindly following them.

The next stop is the Stone Forest. The road block is to put together a life size dinosaur based on a diagram. They must make sure it is built safely to avoid being rejected.

Road block (in order of arrival): Kisha, Christina, Margie, Kent, Jet, Big Easy, Jaime, Justin, Gary

Upon arriving at the road block, Vixsyin admits they have a penalty. They just “fudged around the truth” when they told their story about not knowing whether they were going to get a penalty.

Realizing they are in last place, Gary & Mallory use their express pass, which advances them to first place. However, since their cab has left, Jet & Cord are able to overtake them.

Slowly but surely the teams start to finish. Kent & Vyxsin are in the middle of the pack and seem like they will be okay. Then Flight Time & Big Easy try to see how obnoxiously loud they can celebrate not coming in last.

The pit stop for this leg of the race is Green Lake Park in Kunming.

First: Jet & Cord (win $5,000 each)
Second: Gary & Mallory
Third: Margie & Luke
Fourth: Kisha & Jen
Fifth: Kent & Vyxsin
Sixth: Flight Time & Big Easy
Seventh: Ron & Christina
Eighth: Zev & Justin
Eliminated: Jaime & Cara

Whatever happened the rest of the leg or last week for that matter doesn’t matter. It all comes down to Jaime’s struggles on the road block. While I don’t care for Jaime & Cara, Kent & Vyxsin shouldn’t be in this race any more.

American Idol Season 10 Episode 19

The top 12 performed in American Idol Season 10 Episode 18. Tonight one will be sent home.

There are a few choices tonight. Naima barely made it into the competition, got a pass last week, and then this week got called out for what she got passed on last week. Casey failed to understand the concept that taking a risk should require thought, not just singing something random and hoping it sticks (it didn’t). Lucky for him, he’s got a following already built. I still don’t get Paul, but I counted him out the last two weeks, in which he’s been untouched. I get the sense he’s got a couple more weeks in him by way of the Worsters. I wasn’t sure whether Haley’s performance was serious last night or not.

Casey Abrams, Jacob Lusk, and Lauren Alaina are first. Lauren was improved but in the bottom three last week, while Casey’s problem is he took a risk that did not pay off. Jacob is safe regardless. Lauren will also be returning to safety. Casey is also safe.

Haley Reinhart and Paul McDonald are next. Both of them could easily be in the bottom three (for Haley, it would be a return visit). Paul is safe. Haley is in the bottom three.

Scotty McCreery, James Durbin, and Pia Toscano are the next group. I don’t see any of them being in danger. Scotty is safe. Pia is safe. James is safe.

Stefano Langone and Naima Adedapo are next. Unlike the other two, Stefano’s really made the most of his second chance. Stefano is safe. Naima is in the bottom three.

Karen Rodriguez and Thia Megia are the final pair. With Karen having been in the bottom three last time, I think we can see where this is going. Thia is safe. Karen is in the bottom three.

As Haley and Karen are once again in the bottom three, they are joined by Naima. Naima is the first person to return to safety. Haley is also safe. That means Karen has been eliminated. Did not see that coming even a little. Of the three, I’d say she’s the only one with any chance of being saved by the judges, however slim. Since she keeps ending up in the bottom, though, it would be merely delaying the inevitable. The judges are not unanimous in their decision to not use the save.

Survivor: Redemption Island Episode 5

Having sealed her fate at the very beginning, Kristina was not surprised when she met the end of her road in Survivor: Redemption Island Episode 4.

Steve says there’s hope to bring Krista and Stephanie in. He wants to prove they’re a solid family. Oh. That would be different. Julie, however, considers them to be just non-threatening pawns.

Krista and Stephanie randomly draw to be able to go to the duel. Stephanie wants to send a message that they’re Russell’s girls and ready to flip. Boston Rob and Grant come from Ometepe.

Matt and Kristina will square off in the duel. The challenge is simply to put together a cubed puzzle. Matt’s very close but wrong and has to start over completely. Not content with merely focusing on the task at hand, Matt would like to know from Rob why he voted him out. Rob’s response: it doesn’t take one person to vote someone out. In the end, Matt wins his third duel in a row to stay alive.

Following the duel, Matt says he’s ready to rejoin his tribe. Stephanie, however, says she is not so ready to stick with her tribe. The girls think yellow might look good on them.

Phillip says he’s frustrated that he can’t make an impression on these women. Oh, he’s made an impression alright. He compares them to the crabs he’s trying to catch, which run away right when they see him. His only slight hope is Andrea, so he proposes an alliance with her.

Andrea’s an outcast who would rather get rid of Natalie and Ashley, no matter how much she and the other girls pretend they get along.

A caller will guide blindfolded teammates through a maze to collect bags of puzzle pieces. Once they have collected all four, the caller will use those pieces to solve a word phrase. In addition to immunity, they are playing for coffee and pastries. Steve and Julie sit out for Zapatera. Stephanie is the caller for her tribe, and David ain’t happy about it. It goes without saying Rob will be the caller for his tribe. Ometepe is the first to deliver a bag to their table, but Zapatera has three in hand by this point. Sarita and Krista deliver the first two bags for Zapatera. Mike brings their third. Ashley has Ometepe’s second bag. Grant returns his second bag to make it three each. Stephanie mostly just wants Ralph to shut up and move to his left (his other left).

Grant has the final puzzle piece for Ometepe, allowing Rob to start the puzzle first. Too bad he just dropped a piece. Surely he’s seen enough episodes of Survivor to know to be more careful than that. Eventually, he spots it, but he’s lost some ground, as Stephanie was quick to open her bags. As they work, Steve takes the opportunity to mock Stephanie and wish David were doing the puzzle instead. Ralph agrees. Ometepe wins reward and immunity. They can make Stephanie the scapegoat all they want, but Boston Rob’s tough to beat when it comes to puzzles. Regardless, they lagged behind and gave him an advantage.

As we know by now, there’s a clue in the reward. Grant and Rob spot it in the coffee. They create a diversion to sneak away with it. Rob’s plan is to keep that clue to himself and switch it out with the first largely useless clue he got previously, which he then shares with Grant, who gave him the clue they just found.

Sarita says she made the choice she did because she didn’t like the idea of David under pressure. Proving her point, he turns this into a confrontation. His profession: lawyer. He’s under the impression now that he’s in a courtroom apparently. In his court, he will be doing every puzzle they ever come across again, and nobody will tell him otherwise.

In spite of all this drama, Stephanie and Krista are the two targets, and they have decided that there’s no hope of scrambling.

Stephanie would rather get rid of Steve because he’s useless around camp. Sarita would rather get rid of David because he’s a lawyer.

Sarita disagrees that they haven’t been playing the game. She says they played it so hard that they got rid of Russell. A result of throwing a challenge and banding together like lemmings.

At tribal council, Krista calls out the pairs, saying everybody has joined up with one other person… except David.

Mike claims they have strategized. They have?
