The Biggest Loser Season 15 Episode 13

With the voting continuing for a second week in The Biggest Loser Season 15 Episode 12, their decision was to eliminate Jay, the least threatening player who was almost at his goal weight.

It’s makeover week. Unlike usual, they’re not going to pretend that the visit from home is a surprise. They tell them their family and friends are on a plane coming to see them.

When he returns home, Jay is able to go roping for the first time in over two years. Before, he was forced to stop riding horses because he could not safely do so due to his weight.

If there were an episode they could squeeze into an hour, this is it, but the changes they go through are great. David is completely unrecognizeable after they shave him and cut his hair, and then they chop off all of Marie’s hair, too, much to her dismay. As for Rachel, she is now down to a size 6.

After spending the week being made over, they are hit with a surprise at the weigh in. There will be two people below the red line.

Bobby: 248 pounds (-6, 2.36%)
Tanya: 192 pounds (-4, 2.04%)
Chelsea: 164 pounds (-4, 2.38%)
Rachel: 151 pounds (-4, 2.58%)
Marie: 175 pounds (-3, 1.69%)
Jennifer: 185 pounds (-4, 2.12%)
David: 259 pounds (-7, 2.63%)

Marie and Tanya have fallen below the red line and be eliminated.

The Biggest Loser Season 15 Episode 12

With the yellow line making its first appearance this year, Tumi was eliminated in The Biggest Loser Season 15 Episode 11.

This week, the contestants go away. They will be training at the Olympic Training Center in Utah. Though they get to see some sights and meet some new people, they’re ultimately worried that the change in routine will bring about bad results on the scale.

Rachel has come prepared. She made all her food for the week before they left, so unlike the others who can easily fall off the wagon, she should be good to go. She at least has clearly learned her lesson.

Their challenge is curling, an actual sport we’re told. They will be pushing 100 pound curling stones and try to get inside the red circle. First to 3 points will advance. Jay says he has no interest at all in winning because he is too much of a threat. Rachel has no such hang ups, and she joins Bobby in the final round. In the second heat, David and Chelsea advance. Rachel ends up winning the $5,000 prize, and not everybody is happy about it.

Bob predicts the weigh in is going to suck, and somebody is going to gain weight. That somebody may well be Bobby, who ended up binging at the start of the week, turning to food because of the pressure of being back at the ranch.

From her starting weight of 319 pounds, Tumi is down to 180 pounds today. With those numbers, she’s a threat to win the at home prize.

Their next challenge is at the bobsled track. But they won’t be going down it. No, they have to run up it. This track is 1 mile long, and the elevation ranges from 7000-7400 feet above sea level. The prize this time is a 1 pound advantage. Jay and Rachel are the only ones who are actually running. They run neck and neck until about half way when Rachel pulls ahead by a good distance. As Jay struggles to regain control of his breathing, Rachel easily wins the challenge plus a ride on the bobsled.

Becky from season 12 has kept the weight off and continued losing. She is now participating in Teaching Gardens, a program designed to teach kids about planting healthy foods.

The weigh in takes place at the Nordic Ski Jump.

Rachel: 155 pounds (-6, -1, 4.35%) – over 100 pounds lost
Jennifer: 189 pounds (no change)
David: 266 pounds (-4, 1.48%)
Marie: 178 pounds (-5, 2.73%)
Chelsea: 168 pounds (-3, 1.75%)
Tanya: 196 pounds (-2, 1.01%)
Jay: 193 pounds (+1, 0.52%)
Bobby: 256 pounds (+2, 0.79%)

Bobby and Jay, the two people who gained weight, have fallen below the yellow line. Jay has done an awesome job, but he’s at a wall with very little more weight left to lose.

Votes
Tanya: Jay
Jennifer: Jay
Rachel: Jay
Marie: Bobby
David: Jay

With 4 votes, Jay is not The Biggest Loser. He leaves 8 pounds away from his goal weight. Bobby is the bigger threat, except in the triathlon, but they want to keep him around because he is struggling.

The Biggest Loser Season 15 Episode 11

It’s been a few weeks since The Biggest Loser Season 15 Episode 10 when Hap and Matt were both eliminated, and we were left with a cliffhanger that one person will be returning to the house.

In a strange turn of events, the scheduling of this show is unlinke any other reality TV show that comes to my mind. Rather than doing two seasons on opposite ends of the winter break, they decided to do a single long season. I just hope the second part of the season picks up because the first part felt so rushed with the 1 hour time frame that it was hard to get into.

The good news is that The Voice does not return for several weeks, so at least for now NBC is forced to deliver 2 hour episodes again. It would be nice if they would just stop screwing around with this show and trying to kill it. It’s not like they have a lot of successes. Why mess up a show that has been successful for a decade when almost the entire rest of your lineup is a disaster?

Matt, Hap, Ruben, Fernanda, Craig, Bobby, and Holley will have a chance to win a spot back in the house. Unlike a couple of seasons ago when a bunch of whiners/quitters got all up in arms about this twist that happens every single season, everybody seems happy to see them. The player with the highest percentage of weight loss is the one who will be returning. At least we know they have not invented another excuse to let Ruben return again. I’m surprised there won’t be a singing contest.

Matt: 26.12%
Hap: 21.59%
Ruben: 377 pounds (-85, 18.40%)
Fernanda: 208 pounds (-42, 16.80%)
Holley: 277 pounds (-74, 21.08%)
Craig: 307 pounds (-78, 20.26%)
Bobby: 261 pounds (-97, 27.09%)

Bobby was just sent home last week, so he has not been on his own for very long, but he does manage to edge Matt out for the spot to return to the ranch. He’s not happy about the triathlon, seeing as he does not know how to swim.

Finally this week, there will be a yellow line, and the contestants will be forced to vote after months of being on easy street.

Jillian’s noticing something with Tanya. Every workout, she does great, right up until the very end when she deliberately sabotages herself.

Hap has learned to stop making excuses. Just because his job requires travel does not mean he has to gain weight. To help himself, he has bought a portable grill, allowing him to cook his own lean meats, rather than restaurant foods doused in fat and sauces.

They head to the beach for a challenge, which means lots of running in sand. The winner will receive $25,000 in home gym equipment. They must grab kettlebells out of the sand and bring 10 of them to the top of the hill. If they get the golden kettlebell, that is worth 5. The losing player will have a 1 pound disadvantage. Jay quickly takes the lead, and once he starts, it becomes clear this is going to be a fairly simple challenge for him to win. The kettlebells are all scattered in a line up the hill, so they can just grab the closest ones. Rachel is giving him a run for his money, but by the time anybody else even makes it there, he’s half way done, taking all the closest kettlebells in the process. Marie finds the golden kettlebell, which puts her in a tie with the leaders. Jay wins the challenge. Rachel and Marie are obviously next. They are followed by Chelsea, Jennifer, David, Tumi, and Bobby. Tanya places last and will have a disadvantage.

After this challenge that’s really a promotional opportunity for Planet Fitness, Abby from season 8 joins them to offer some words of encouragement but really to promote The Biggest Loser Resort. It’s hard to say whether she has kept the weight off because she never looked overly thin in the first place, but what she has done is to keep positive and has since found a new husband. She’s followed by a commercial for Subway and then another for Yoplait and another for Larabar. Holy product promotion. Granted, I eat at Subway all the time, and I learned about Larabar, which is indeed a good snack, from this show.

Rachel has been carrying a pair of jeans around with her everywhere she lives for 6 years. The size 8 pants fit her, down from her starting size of 20.

Marie is starting to think that perhaps she does want to win after all. This is a change of pace from her original goal of just losing enough weight to have a baby and gain it back again.

Matt has renewed his plans for a wedding. His jacket was originally a 60. His new jacket is a 48.

The yellow line looms over the weigh in.

Tanya: 198 pounds (-3, +1, 1.00%)
Bobby: 254 pounds (-7, 2.68%) – over 100 pounds lost
David: 270 pounds (-12, 4.26%)
Chelsea: 171 pounds (-6, 3.39%)
Rachel: 161 pounds (-6, 3.59%)
Jennifer: 189 pounds (-6, 3.08%)
Jay: 192 pounds (-4, 2.04%)
Marie: 183 pounds (-4, 2.14%)
Tumi: 221 pounds (-4, 1.78%)

Tumi and Tanya have fallen below the yellow line. Tanya is non-threatening, whereas Tumi can easily be viewed as a threat, since she’s one of the biggest females who could easily drop over 50% with enough effort. Presumably, they will vote along team lines, which means 2 votes each. That leaves Bob’s team of 4 to make the decision, which gives them a lot of power that would take the other two teams joining forces to beat.

The dynamic this season is different than usual. Everybody’s just been having fun at summer camp so far. Now they have to actually start playing the game, without any alliances or background of previous votes to cloud the situation.

Votes
Bobby: Tumi
David: Tumi
Jay: Tumi
Marie: Tumi

With 4 votes, Tumi is not The Biggest Loser. Surprisingly enough, even Marie did not vote for her own teammate, as she wants to get rid of the bigger threat.

From here, the remaining contestants are heading the Olympic Training Center in Park City, Utah. Bob provides a warning: that weigh in is going to suck.

Although we’re getting treated to 2 hour episodes now, it’s not going to last long. Turns out the finale is only 1 month away. Which brings me to the rant at the top of this post. Why bother, NBC? There is no way to describe this scheduling other than… weird. And they actually paid people to come up with it.

Stay tuned to dingoRUE for another live recap of The Biggest Loser Season 15 Episode 12, which airs Tuesday at 8/7c on NBC.

The Biggest Loser Season 15 Episode 10

After falling below the red line, Bobby was eliminated in The Biggest Loser Season 15 Episode 9.

We’re going to singles. Perhaps now things will get interesting in this otherwise dull season. Maybe I can even start to recognize the contestants all these weeks in.

For the challenge, each contestant will be holding 20% of their weight. Reward is a 1 pound advantage on the scale. Tanya’s the first one eliminated. Then Tumi. It goes to 10 minutes, 15, and 20. Jen is the next one to fall. Hap is next. Marie, Chelsea, and Matt go next. The three people who remain are also the biggest losers on campus so far this season. After an hour and a half, David drops. Jay falls a couple minutes later, and Rachel wins.

This week, they will finally start thinning the herd. This week’s red line will have two people below it. Whatever happened to voting on this show?

With everybody in singles, the trainers split their duties for the week and get the chance to train new people. Most people shine in the workout, including David, who runs an 11 minute mile, much better than the 15 minutes he was aiming to do and even better than the 12 minutes Jillian asked of him. Jennifer not so much, as she leaves the workout crying after being unable to make the jumps Bob had her try.

Following a commercial for Subway breakfasts and a brief last chance workout, it’s time for the first individual weigh in.

Rachel: 167 pounds (-4, -1, 2.92%)
Chelsea: 177 pounds (-4, 2.21%)
Jay: 196 pounds (-5, 2.49%)
Marie: 187 pounds (-5, 2.60%)
Tumi: 225 pounds (-9, 3.85%)
David: 282 pounds (-12, 4.08%)
Tanya: 201 pounds (-7, 3.37%)
Hap: 316 pounds (-5, 1.56%)
Jennifer: 195 pounds (-5, 2.50%)
Matt: 263 pounds (-5, 1.87%)

Two people who I would have predicted would be staying have a bad week, and Hap and Matt fall below the red line and are going home. Or are they? They, along with everybody else who has been eliminated (yes, that includes Ruben, who was eliminated for a second time two weeks ago) will have a shot at returning to the game.

This is different. I was wondering how they’d get the season done in time, and the answer is they won’t. Rather, the season will be returning in three weeks for midseason, and on January 7th, we’ll pick back up where we left off.

Stay tuned to dingoRUE for another live recap of The Biggest Loser Season 15 Episode 11, which airs Tuesday at 8/7c on NBC.

Survivor: Blood Vs. Water Winner

Hayden and Ciera tried to get Monica on their side in Survivor: Blood Vs. Water Episode 13 by telling her that Gervase and Tyson had been saying mean things about her. Then, just before he was voted out, Hayden tried to prove his point by calling her Tyson’s lapdog.

That brings us down to a final four of Tyson Apostol, Monica Culpepper, Ciera Eastin, and Gervase Peterson. This has very clearly been Tyson’s season. He has controlled almost every vote and made a lot of big moves. Gervase was a complete disaster out of the gate but maneuvered himself into the right alliance and mostly learned to keep his mouth shut and even how to swim better than Ciera, not that that’s saying much. Monica has dominated in challenges but not much else. Then there’s the last remaining outsider/non-returning player, Ciera, who has been largely useless both strategically and physically, but has nonetheless created a lot of drama with grand plans that always backfired.

Of course, with this season, it does not end there. It would be nice if Redemption Island just ended when Laura was let back in the game the first time, but no, here we are on the last night, still stuck with someone about to reenter the game. Laura Morett, Tina Wesson, and Hayden Moss are the last remaining contestants on their own island. Though she has won the last few duels, Laura was already voted out. Twice. I have no interest in seeing her have a third chance. Tina may have won 25 seasons ago, but times have changed. I don’t see her contribution this season adding up to enough to make a difference. As the last person voted out, Hayden stuck around long enough to have more of an impact on the game, but he overplayed his hand, made a big move too early, and is right where he should be as a result.

Though she seemed to pick a side last time, Redemption Island returns us back again to where we were then. Monica is again the deciding vote and says she wants to be on both sides.

The duel is again one of endurance. They will place one foot on the end of a balancing board, and on the other end is a vase. Laura is struggling an awful lot but manages to recover. Hayden is not so lucky and is eliminated. Still struggling, Laura begs, but Tina says no way. As we approach the half hour mark, Tina starts to move as well, but she hangs on. Laura drops her vase, and Tina is back in the game.

Tina can give the last clue to the hidden immunity to the idol to anyone who’s in the game. That now includes her. So she keeps it.

Tina returning to the game is basically the same as Laura returning to the game, except she’s older. She immediately joins Ciera and shares the clue to the idol. They then pounce on Monica and try to get her over to their side, again.

For the immunity challenge, they will have to place 10 wooden blocks on an unbalanced table that they must balance using a rope. The women start out strong, but they find out when they hit 4 that being strong out of the gates doesn’t matter if you tip everything. This allows Tyson to pass them, and he has yet to stumble. As everybody else falls apart, Tyson’s slow and methodical strategy pays off, and Tyson wins immunity. Always the goofball, he kneels like he’s being knighted by Probst.

Monica wants to get rid of Tina because nobody on the jury is angry with her since she has had no part in voting out any of them. Rather than play along with the person who’s the deciding vote, Gervase is upset and puffing his chest because he sees Ciera as the bigger threat. Tyson leaves them to argue amongst themselves.

Obviously nobody is going to vote for Monica. That means that if Tyson gives Gervase his idol, those two can dictate the vote no matter what she does. Tyson has other plans. He wants to save the idol as a souvenir and give it to his girlfriend.

Of course, this is all just talk from Tyson. He’s not stupid. He gives his idol to Gervase, so now they are both safe.

Votes

Ciera

With 2 votes, Ciera has been voted off the island. In the end, Monica did not flip (Ciera’s strategy of making her feel bad wasn’t going to work), but it would be hard to blame the boys for doing what they did. Of course, it does lead to Monica questioning how much they trust her, but that’s been a theme for some time now.

They will collect puzzle pieces from a series of obstacles and a waterslide, solve a puzzle, and use that puzzle to get the combination to the lock. The other three pull ahead of Tina. Tyson gets to the puzzle first with Gervase behind him and Monica right behind them. Tina finally climbs the stairs a long way behind, though a puzzle could well turn things around. Tyson is the first to solve the puzzle. He heads down the slide seeking information to solve the combination then climbs back up to finish. Tyson wins immunity.

If you thought the story with Monica being in the middle was over, it’s not. Once again, she talks to the other side to discuss voting that way, forcing a tie, which would leave Tina and Gervase having to make a fire. I don’t think Monica would be terribly torn up about turning on Gervase, but she’s made it clear she thinks Tina is a threat, which is one reason why it was smart for Gervase and Tyson to get rid of Ciera instead.

So apparently the point of this Tribal Council is to see how many faces Ciera and Hayden can make. This is the only thing that could be Tyson’s downfall. How bitter is the jury?

Vytas tells Tyson he’s going to stick to his promise to not vote for him if he turns on him, no matter how much he thinks he did the right thing. That said, he thinks Gervase got strung along by Tyson, and Monica was the only one who turned on him who had actually promised him anything.

Tyson apologizes to Katie for telling her there’s the jury seat over there for you right after the rock drawing. This is his one regret in the game.

Gervase says he’s a genius because he set Tyson up to be the fall guy for his actions. Then Monica cries about what’s come up the past few Tribal Councils. For all their talk, Ciera and Hayden clearly hurt her, more than Tyson and Gervase ever could have.

Tyson denies being a villain.

Not wanting to be left out, Laura piles on Monica.

Tina asks for one word to describe themselves. Monica: generous. Gervase: honorable. Tyson: is fun-loving one word or two?

Hayden asks Tyson about the idol, another time he was one step ahead. Then Monica cries some more.

Aras asks which of the other two he should vote for if he could not vote for them. Gervase says he should vote for Tyson. Monica agrees. Tyson says Monica because she served as the go between who brought them information they could not get themselves.

The Survivor: Blood Vs. Water winner is Tyson Apostol. The lone Monica vote came from Vytas. Yeah, he really was that big a putz that he refused to vote for the guy who voted him out. I’m glad the jury was left with no alternative because I get the sense that if somebody like Tina or Ciera were in the final three, they would have received a lot of votes, despite not doing much. Granted, Monica at least did something that a vote for her is not entirely out of place.

Survivor will be back for midseason in February with Survivor: Cagayan, Brawn Vs. Brains Vs. Beauty. Additionally, it has been renewed for another year, seasons 29 and 30, with Jeff Probst returning as host and producer.

Survivor: Blood Vs. Water Episode 13

For only the second time in the history of the show, the results of Survivor: Blood Vs. Water Episode 12 came down to drawing a rock, and Katie was eliminated.

Tina would not be opposed to leting Katie win. Wishful thinking considering they’re going to have to get through Laura first.

Tyson says that a basic rule of Survivor is that you never let the person on the bottom know they’re going home. Monica’s approach is different, and she lets Hayden know she still wants Ciera back. As she keeps talking, Tyson gives her more to talk about. He has the idol. She says he’s hurt that he kept this secret (again).

Now that her plan blew up in her face, Ciera has decided she wants her mom back in the game.

Their duel is to build a pole to retrieve keys and get them out of their cages. Tina starts off giving Katie advice. The blonde leading the blonde. Laura gets her first key first. Then her second. Katie is behind her with her first key. Laura wins the duel. She may as well just take a nap waiting for this to end. Tina manages to jump ahead of her daughter and ends up with all three keys as Katie continues to struggle. Before letting herself out, she asks her daughter if she’s okay with it. Laura again gives the clue to her daughter, which hasn’t helped and obviously won’t help.

Hayden has a plan. He’s going to win the challenge, and he’s going to find the idol so that he can bail out Ciera. It’s not as if he can trust her to fend for herself. After climbing around the trees like a monkey for a while, it finally dawns on him that Tyson probably already has it. So he wants to convince Monica that her alliance is talking about her behind her back.

For the challenge, they will dive in the water and take their buoy along a rope before getting to shore to form an 8 word phrase with letter tiles. Reward is food. Ciera is quickly hopeless. Even Gervase, who practically drowned the first day, is looking like a star by comparison. Tyson and Hayden are in the lead. Despite arriving at the puzzle in dead last, Ciera somehow not only pulls back into the challenge, but she ends up winning immunity and reward. She invites Hayden to join her for lunch.

It seems to me that the best move just went out the window. Ciera’s not a threat, but her mom is a beast over on Redemption Island. As a pair this late in the game, they are a threat. The next logical choice is to get rid of Hayden.

On the other side, Ciera enacts Hayden’s plan to convince Monica that Tyson is talking smack about her. Monica falls for it and doesn’t even question it, saying she’s hurt by her alliance that just risked getting beat by a rock and saved her.

This comes up at Tribal Council, and Gervase brings up a good point. If they’ve talked so much trash about her, why did nobody mention it until they were desperate? Ciera digs in using as many creative adjectives as she can, ultimately calling Tyson and Gervase evil. So then, Hayden tells Monica she’s Tyson’s lapdog. This is your defense about why it’s bad to stick with people who are talking bad about her? To talk bad about her, too?
