The Amazing Race 27 Episode 9

Tanner & Josh literally handed away second to last place to the cheerleaders in The Amazing Race 27 Episode 8 and should have gone home but were saved by non-elimination.

Teams depart in the order in which they arrived.

First: Justin & Diana – 10:04PM
Second: Kelsey & Joey – 12:58AM
Third: Denise & James Earl – 12:59AM
Fourth: Logan & Chris – 1:50AM
Fifth: Tiffany & Krista – 2:02AM
Sixth: Tanner & Josh – 2:03AM

Teams must now fly to New Delhi, India. Any time advantage the lead team has is being erased.

Logan & Chris are doing a lot of talking about the U-turn. Justin happily uses this excuse to stir the pot.

The road block requires teams to wash laundry in the river.

Road block (in order of arrival): Krista, Chris, Denise, Tanner & Josh, Joey, Diana

As their speed bump, Tanner & Josh must both do the road block. This is an interesting punishment, likely much longer than the typical speed bump.

The detour is a choice between cans or candy. In cans, teams must load gas cans on a cargo bike and deliver them. In candy, teams must make candy out of pumpkins.

Cans: Kelsey & Joey, Justin & Diana
Candy: Logan & Chris, Tiffany & Krista, Denise & James Earl, Tanner & Josh

Learning how to make candy seems to be simpler than trying to travel through the chaotic streets of India, but there doesn’t seem to be much advantage to one over the other, bad news for the Texas boys, but their last hope is the U-turn.

Justin & Diana are the first team to arrive and do not need to U-turn. Joey & Kelsey U-turn Tanner & Josh, whose cause is completely lost now. I don’t think there was any need for that, but they did just take out one of the more threatening teams, at least on paper.

The pit stop for this leg of the race is Moonlight Garden, across the way from the Taj Mahal.

First: Justin & Diana (win a trip to Hawaii)
Second: Kelsey & Joey
Third: Logan & Chris
Fourth: Tiffany & Krista
Fifth: Denise & James Earl
Eliminated: Tanner & Josh

Tanner & Josh never really had a chance. They played themselves out of this game last week, giving into what they acknowledge is their weakness, pom poms.

Survivor: Second Chance Episode 9

Most of the tribe decided to ignore the possibility of a hidden idol in Survivor: Second Chance Episode 8. After Kelley played her idol, Andrew was sent home.

Kelley seems really impressed with herself, but the reality is not that she’s great but that everybody else is so dumb or at least so full of themselves. All they had to do was split the votes. Basic Survivor 101 that people who Jeff claims are fan favorites should know, no matter how much they may wish to underestimate the lackluster minority.

For the reward challenge in the rain, they are divided into two teams of five and will use poles to build a staircase, make their way through a maze, open a chest, and solve a puzzle with the pieces inside. Reward is a trip to the Survivor spa. Tasha, Stephen, Spencer, Joe, and Ciera (purple) go against Kelly, Keith, Kelley, Kimmi, and Jeremy (green). Nobody picks Abi. Purple takes a huge lead as green falls apart at the beginning. I’m not sure I’ve seen a performance this disastrous before. Green doesn’t even make it to the puzzle.

Ciera is again the person to bring up strategy at the reward.

Back at camp, the others sit around together while Jeremy goes off on his own to find a clue to the hidden immunity idol, a map that leads him right to the idol, his second.

Stephen wants to join the outcasts, who have been dubbed the three witches. He wants to get rid of people who are actually threatening, unlike them and himself.

At the immunity challenge, they will balance on triangular platforms in the water. As the challenge starts, so does the rain again. Jeff offers them an advantage in the game to jump in the water and swim for a buoy. Somehow, Stephen beats Spencer in the swimming race, and he didn’t really give up anything because it’s not like he was going to win immunity. Those who remain transition to the top of the platforms. Kelley, Jeremy, Ciera, Kimmi, and Tasha all fall as they try to do that.

Keith is the next to fall. Joe’s shaking an awful lot compared to the women who remain. After half an hour, they go to one foot, which should make quick work of two of them. Kelly can’t make this transition. Abi falls. Joe wins immunity. As usual.

It’s a little late, but the majority is now talking about a split vote plan. They’re going to try to get rid of Kelley again.

Of course, there’s Stephen’s advantage to consider. His advantage is roughly what I thought it would be but bigger. He can steal a vote. That gives him the power to make the split vote come back and bite them if he wants, but he doesn’t want to use it tonight. This power gets even more powerful as time passes, so it does make sense to hold off rather than ending up on the bottom with the others.

Stephen tries to talk Jeremy and Spencer into his plan to get rid of Kelly instead of one of the thre girls. He doesn’t seem to be providing them with a particularly compelling reason.

With 5 votes, Kelly has been voted off the island. Somehow, Stephen managed to talk people into going along with his plan to get rid of Wiglesworth. I still don’t understand because that conversation didn’t seem to go very well to me.

The Amazing Race 27 Episode 8

Waiting for the bus led to their downfall, as Cindy & Rick were eliminated in The Amazing Race 27 Episode 7.

Teams depart in the order in which they arrived.

First: Justin & Diana – 10:10PM
Second: Kelsey & Joey – 10:23PM
Third: Tiffany & Krista – 10:24PM
Fourth: Tanner & Josh – 11:34PM
Fifth: Logan & Chris – 12:11AM
Sixth: Denise & James Earl – 12:36AM

Teams must now fly to Krakow, Poland. All teams are on the same flight, aside from Justin & Diana, whose 13 minute head start gives them a big flight advantage.

The detour is a choice between mine and music. In mine, teams must travel underground, deliver timber to a mining area, and then mine and deliver salt. In music, teams must learn a song and then move a piano to the square to earn money playing.

Mine: Justin & Diana, Logan & Chris, Tanner & Josh
Music: Denise & James Earl, Tiffany & Krista, Kelsey & Joey

In this case, the physical task seems to be the worse choice. Surprisingly, only the cheerleaders appear to struggle at charming money out of people, but not enough to prevent the Texas boys from ending up in last.

Following a visit to Schnidler’s office, the road block requires teams to deliver food to a restaurant.

Road block (in order of arrival): Justin, Kelsey, James Earl, Chris, Tiffany, Josh

The only chore here is figuring out what all the food is. They can just ask people who are walking by. For some reason, as they are fighting for last place, Tiffany asks Josh if he wants to work with her. And then Josh slows down and lets her go first, which guarantees him last place.

The pit stop for this leg of the race is Klezmer Hois, the restaurant where they just got done serving.

First: Justin & Diana (win a trip to China)
Second: Kelsey & Joey
Third: Denise & James Earl
Fourth: Logan & Chris
Fifth: Tiffany & Krista
Non-eliminated: Tanner & Josh

I was thinking how dumb it was that the detour choice by itself looked like it was going to cost them, but in the end, it was being nice guys and letting a pretty face get ahead. Despite that, Tanner & Josh have been saved by non-elimination.

Survivor: Second Chance Episode 8

Kass trying to cause chaos bit her a lot earlier this time than last, leading to her elimination in Survivor: Second Chance Episode 7.

Ciera wants to play hard, not smart, just hard. She tells Stephen that her target is Joe. That’s not a bad idea actually. When he stops winning.

For the reward challenge, they jump into boats, untie crates, and stack those crates so there are no repeating colors on any side. Reward is a trip to the Survivor cafe. Joe, Kelly, Kelley, Keith, Kimmi, and Ciera are against Tasha, Andrew, Spencer, Jeremy, Stephen, and Abi. They are even until the midway point when Joe pushes the others team off course, the first in a series of problems from which they never recover. Joe’s team wins reward.

At the top of the episode, Ciera said her target is Joe. Now that she’s on a reward with him, she has a different story for the group: Jeremy, Tasha, Stephen, and Savage will never turn on each other. If you keep stirring the pot and just throwing names out there for the sake of throwing names out there, there’s always the risk that someone will say your name.

Stephen’s whining at camp that he lost as usual. The people he needs to bond with are on the reward with his enemy, Joe. After that, he uses the time to plot against Joe, which Andrew overhears. When Joe finds out, he says he didn’t expect this so soon. Why not? That seems pretty dumb.

For the immunity challenge, they will balance a ball on a disc attached to ropes. Kelley and Ciera are eliminated within seconds and then the other Kelly and Jeremy. Abi is next followed by Stephen and Andrew. They are dropping like flies here. Round 1 lasts for 10 minutes. Kimmi is the first to drop in the next round and then Tasha. The three who remain move to the final round. Spencer is out. A second ball is added for the final two. Keith won this the last time he competed in it, but this time he gets beaten by Joe. Basically any challenge no matter what is likely to be won by Joe, which is exactly why there’s no way he’ll make it to the end unless he wins everything.

Because Stephen got caught talking about Joe, he’s the target now. Joe approaches the three girls who are on the bottom to secure the necessary votes, and Andrew goes to everybody else. Jeremy’s the only one to offer resistance to this plan, and it is immediately changed as a result. Joe lets the girls know this is a no go, and they assume one of them is the target.

At Tribal Council, Ciera again points out the group of four people who are in control: Jeremy, Tasha, Andrew, and Stephen or Joe. I think that’s five. Kelley won’t name names just in case she’s still here tomorrow.

Knowing she’s a possible target, Wentworth plays her idol, shocking everybody.

With 2 votes, Andrew has been voted off the island. The outcasts controlled the vote as the majority doesn’t even think about splitting the vote, despite having plenty of votes to split it between three people if they wanted. They just got cocky. If Joe kept quiet and didn’t tell the girls that plans had changed, perhaps he could have saved his closest ally.

The Amazing Race 27 Episode 7

The Amazing Race 27 Episode 6 was another to be continued leg.

Everybody else has finished the leg, as Denise & James Earl finally complete the detour after 18 tries.

All teams are scheduled on trains departing at 7:22 to Rotterdam in the Netherlands. Some teams try to find something earlier, while Tanner & Josh just see an opportunity to go sight seeing.

First train (departs 4:19): Justin & Diana
Second train (departs 4:53 with a connection): Joey & Kelsey
Third train (departs 5:16): Cindy & Rick, Tiffany & Krista

Cindy & Rick think they’re going to Amsterdam. Tiffany & Krista think they’re going to Germany. Both are incorrect, but they still get where they’re going.

They are of course greeted by an hours of operation, but the advantage of getting in earlier is that the departure times are set 15 minutes apart based on arrival.

Justin & Diana continue to argue. More fun between these two. Let’s see if Phil blames it on him again.

The road block requires teams to search for a reproduction of a Van Gogh painting.

Road block (in order of arrival): Krista, Diana, Rick, Joey, Tanner, Logan, Denise

Getting a wrong answer will require them to run back and forth. They’re all out of breath, but nobody seems to have much difficulty.

As everybody else takes the tram, Cindy & Rick wait for a bus at his insistence, which moves them from the top of the pack to last place.

The detour is a choice between ship and skip. In ship, teams must navigate a training simulator ship through a storm. In skip, teams must jump rope while performing a clapping routine.

Ship: Joey & Kelsey, Cindy & Rick, Justin & Diana, Tanner & Josh, Logan & Chris, Denise & James Earl, Cindy & Rick
Skip: Tiffany & Krista

Everybody else selects the ship task, but the double dutch task seems well suited to the cheerleaders, which allows them to jump into the lead, though somehow they lose it.

The pit stop for this leg of the race is the Peace Palace.

First: Justin & Diana (win $31,873)
Second: Kelsey & Joey
Third: Tiffany & Krista
Fourth: Tanner & Josh
Fifth: Logan & Chris
Sixth: Denise & James Earl
Eliminated: Cindy & Rick

The final two teams pass each other at the train station, and it comes down to a question who made the biggest mistake. Getting on the wrong tram turns out to be worse than getting on a train that leaves later. Unlike some other teams that keep arguing, Cindy & Rick are already over the little tiff they had with the bus that ultimately led to their downfall.

Survivor: Second Chance Episode 7

Terry went home because his son was in the hospital, and then Woo was voted out in Survivor: Second Chance Episode 6.

There are 13 people left, which leaves most people to suspect that the merge won’t happen soon. But it will. Their new tribe name is Orkun, which means thank you.

After being blindsided last week, Savage is happy to be off that island and ready to turn on his tribe. Of course, he’s not alone, as there is much scrambling right away. There’s a lot of talking going on. I’m not sure how much of it is even relevant.

The Brains tribe, for lack of a better term, still don’t trust each other. Kass and Spencer reluctantly worked together last week, but Tasha isn’t having any of Kass.

9 out of the 13 people who remain were originally on Bayon. Joe talks about how he hasn’t even been to Tribal Council yet more than two weeks into the game.

For the immunity challenge, they will stand on a narrow beam while balancing a ball on a pole. After a few seconds, Stephen drops. Keith is next, and Ciera and Kimmi also don’t get out of the first round. Abi is out within a second of the second round beginning, followed by Kass, Kelly, and Kelley. The third and most difficult round begins after 20 minutes. Andrew is eliminated. Tasha is next and unable to repeat the victory she had the only other time this challenge was done. Jeremy is next. Spencer places second like when he lost to Tasha, and Joe wins immunity, as if he needed a bigger target.

Ciera vocally joined in with Kass’ chaos earlier in the morning, making them the biggest targets. The first 20 minutes of the show when people were talking and talking doesn’t seem to matter much after this argument.

A very large group gathers to discuss their fate, leaving Kass, Ciera, Kelley, and Abi as the outsiders who need to try to overcome a split vote. That other group is so large that it’s not sustainable for very long.

Spencer is the only hope Kass has, and now he has the chance to return the favor from when she saved him last week. This should be a slam dunk, but the plan to split the vote means all they need is one swing.

The Amazing Race 27 Episode 6

Jazmine & Danielle failed to read their clue in The Amazing Race 27 Episode 5 and were eliminated because every single task required people to wait in line, forcing whoever was in last to stay in last.

They start immediately with a road block, bungee jumping off a bridge. All teams are equalized with a 7AM start time.

Road block (in order of arrival): Denise, Diana, Tanner, Joey, Krista, Chris, Rick

Teams must now fly to Paris, France. All teams are on the same flight.

The next road block requires teams to get in a small plane to find a clue and then do a loop. Here there’s another line, as only three teams can go at a time.

Road block (in order of arrival): Justin, Josh, Logan, Tiffany, James Earl, Cindy, Kelsey

The reason for the high adrenaline tasks? The whole episode is one long Fitbit commercial.

Logan doesn’t see the third word of the three, which pushes her and Chris to the back of the line, all by herself waiting. That puts them an hour behind because the train leaves before they are able to catch up to the others.

The only other team not with the group is Justin & Diana. They got the first train out of the airport and the first train now. Despite their very easy leg, she keeps snapping at him.

The detour is a choice between drops mic and bust a crab. Drops mic requires teams to rap. Bust a crab requires teams to create and decorate a signature seafood dish.

Drops mic: Justin & Diana, Tiffany & Krista, Kelsey & Joey, Denise & James Earl
Bust a crab: Tanner & Josh, Cindy & Rick, Logan & Chris

Neither of these seems difficult enough for Logan & Chris to have any prayer, but they get a lucky break. Denise & James Earl get lost, which in itself is not a big problem, but then they do a language and rapping task, both of which neither of them seem particularly suited to do. They stay there for hours, not taking the hint and switching or taking the penalty.

The pit stop for this leg of the race is the Arc de Triomphe.

First: Justin & Diana
Second: Tiffany & Krista
Third: Joey & Kelsey
Fourth: Tanner & Josh
Fifth: Cindy & Rick
Sixth: Logan & Chris
Seventh: Denise & James Earl

It’s time to keep racing.

Stay tuned to dingoRUE for another recap of The Amazing Race 27 Episode 7, which airs Friday at 8/7c on CBS.

Survivor: Second Chance Episode 6

Kimmi kept whining about Monica for some reason in Survivor: Second Chance Episode 5, and for some reason Monica was oblivious to it, which proved to be her downfall.

The previews already gave away what happens next. Terry gets a late night visit from Jeff Probst with news that his son is in the hospital, and his wife and doctor think it’s serious enough that he should go home. Terry departs from the game.

Drop your buffs. Again. Angkor is dead. We hardly knew you, and you were incompetent most of the time.

Ta Keo: Andrew, Kass, Woo, Spencer, Kelly, Abi, Ciera
Bayon: Stephen, Kelley, Joe, Jeremy, Tasha, Keith, Kimmi

Jeff asks Kass how she’s feeling, and she wastes no time throwing Spencer under the bus. On the other side, Kelley is the odd person out.

For the reward challenge, they will race down a slip and slide, grabbing a ring to toss along the way. Reward is a picnic. Jeremy beats Andrew by a second to give Bayon the lead 1-0. Kass beats Stephen to tie it at 1-1. Abi beats Kimmi to take the lead 2-1 for Bayon. Joe beats Woo to make it 2-2. Kelly beats Kelley to win for Ta Keo.

Andrew comes up with a plot. He tells the others that Spencer is the target, and they will tell him that Ciera’s the target. This despite the fact that he loves Spencer. Somehow, Ciera gets all bent out of shape at the thought of just having her name mentioned.

Joe is trying to bond with the person who is the easy target, Kelley, which gets Stephen paranoid. Jeremy doesn’t want Joe to go, however, as Joe is a good shield.

Immunity is a gross eating challenge. Woo and Spencer eat their tarantulas before Tasha and the very bad at this challenge Kimmi. Ciera sucks as bad as Kimmi, allowing Keith and Jeremy to tie it 1-1 after eating water beetles. Kass is unable to finish her pig snout, giving Bayon the 2-1 lead. Kelly plows through the frog, beating Joe to make it 2-2. Kimmi refused to eat cow’s brain in her last season, and she refuses to eat pig’s brain this time. Woo gets it down in a few seconds anyway, taking the 3-2 lead for Ta Keo. Ciera loses again, allowing Kelley to tie it. The final round is Kass against Tasha eating balut, and we already know how this is going to turn out. Kass isn’t even competitive. Bayon wins immunity.

Everybody seems to be onboard with the Spencer vote. Except Ciera. She has issues with her name being brought up at all, though her bigger issue seems to be she’s willing to do whatever to make it known she’s playing the game, not necessarily whatever smart but just whatever. Her target is Woo, which she reveals to the other women. Of course, Abi will have no problem with this.

Though she doesn’t trust Spencer, they’re going to have to play together if she wants to get rid of Woo. Kass informs Spencer that he’s Andrew’s target. In her case, she wants to prove something just like Ciera, except that’s how she was the first time, too. This whole concept of Chaos Kass is just stirring up trouble for trouble’s sake.

With 4 votes, Woo has been voted off the island. I’m not entirely sure why, though the people responsible for this tribe being at Tribal Council due to their poor challenge performance controlled the vote. Savage has some regrouping to do because he just got his legs kicked out from under him after thinking he was in total control.
