The Apprentice UK Series 5 Episode 11

Howard was fired in The Apprentice UK Series 5 Episode 10 due to his unrisky strategy as project manager (ironically, it was the other team, which won, that actually took no risks), while slow burner Lorraine somehow made her way into the final 5.

It’s interview day. Lorraine says she’s scared, with good reason, but indicates the others are not so scared.

Yasmina has only had one or two interviews in her life. She plans to be absolutely brilliant.

Debra realizes she’s made few friends along the way. Her theory is that people dislike her due to her success. My theory is people dislike her because she’s a bitch.

Lorraine considers her CV to be a bit “watery” because she really hasn’t done much in the past decade since she had two kids during that time.

Sir Alan tells them that 1 or 3 of them will be sent home today. His panel consists of Borden Tkachuk of Viglen Computers, Claude Littner who runs companies or something, Karen Brady of Birmingham City Football Club, and city litigator Alan Watts.

Yasmina says that she sometimes can annoy people because she tends to very good at everything. Oh geez. Debra, likewise, is full of herself.

Claude wants to know if Lorraine’s a bit delusional.

James is told that his CV is exceptional. Exceptionally bad. Nobody outside the telecoms industry would understand what he’s talking about.

Borden asks Kate why she’s there since she’s already doing quite well for herself. She responds that she’s looking for a new industry with room for growth, hopefully up to director level within 8 years.

Claude wants to know if Yasmina knows the difference between different types of profit, since she’s written 4.5% gross profit in her resume but now is coming back to say 4.5% net profit. Is she talking nonsense? He’s taken the liberty of getting her business account information. Much to her chagrin, this is public information. They tell a different story than she’s telling about sales and profit. If she doesn’t know the answers to these questions about how much she’s made, that’s a sad indictment of her business.

Lorraine’s CV, meanwhile, has incorrect dates. She’s worked at her current job for one year. She put two. She calls the interview horrendous, but it’s made her think about her CV for the future.

Claude would struggle to consider Debra a team player.

As for James’ CV, he says that he can bring ignorance to the table.

Kate would have a problem working with an all female team. She’d rather work with men, which she’s used to doing, due to the emotional issues that go along with working with women.

Alan has followed up with references. One of Debra’s called her loud, obnoxious, and inexperienced, with a foul mouth. She acknowledges she’s told people to F off at work. Karen runs into the same issue. Another person who works with her calls her aggressive and rude, and lots of people hate her.

Kate’s relationship with Philip has come to the surface again. It only came up originally because Lorraine was desperate to not be fired, and never did prove to be an actual problem.

Alan has a problem that Yasmina asked her mother to remortgage her house to get the business started.

Claude thinks that Kate’s an incredibly competent interviewee with great answers, but he’s concerned there’s not much passion behind that.

Once the interviews are done, the four advisors are able to give their input to Sir Alan.

First is Lorraine. Alan couldn’t shut her up. He found it difficult to get past the talking. If you ask her one question, she’ll still be going ten minutes later without actually telling you anything. Her “special gift” is a combination of intuition and mind reading. In Lorraine’s defense, Margaret says that she has made the right call a few times that others have mised, but her flaw is that she can’t get over the fact that someone else makes a choice she doesn’t like. Claude doesn’t think she could cope with the pressure. Alan thinks she’d drive Sir Alan mad.

Next is Yasmina. Claude likes that she’s actually got entrepreneurial spirit, although she’s not all that credible. Alan, however, felt she came across quite well, but why does she want to work for Sir Alan when she just started her own business a year ago? He and Claude are concerned that the mother put up her house, a big risk, and in return received 1% ownership in the business. Karen considers this comment to be unfair, and it turned out to be a good risk. Sir Alan and Nick are onboard with this theory that, if your children ask you to do something to help them, you do it. Karen could see Yasmina fitting in really well.

Then there’s James. He didn’t have a good interview with Karen, and he admitted it to her when she asked him how he thought it went. He couldn’t stop joking and was touchy. Borden defends him saying that some of his achievements in business have been quite good. Nick thinks he’s lucky to have gotten as far as he has.

Karen was really impressed by Kate. She was very good at answering the questions, albeit perhaps a bit too robotic. It seems she’s just not an emotional person, which perhaps is why she doesn’t like working with women. Karen doesn’t think Kate will let Sir Alan down.

Debra’s references were particularly brutal. These are references she chose herself. Alan’s not convinced she’s actually been changed by this process like she says she has been. Borden says that she will deliver, but will probably try to crush and upset others in the process. Claude likes that she’s young and probably can change. They agree she comes over as very mature despite being 23.

With that done, the candidates return to the boardroom.

Sir Alan wants James to drop his defensive act because people do like him. Debra needs to conquer herself before taking on the world. Kate takes the robotic comment as a compliment because that’s how you should be in an interview. Lorraine has been more critical of her colleagues than anyone else. The question mark with Yasmina is that she’s in business already, so why does she want to work with someone else? She basically admits she plans to work for Sir Alan for a few years, then ditch him to go back to working for herself.

Because he’s a corporate man, an environment that apparently doesn’t exist in Sir Alan’s business, James has been fired. After that’s done, they take a rest because the others are obviously getting emotional.

When they return, they’re told that two more people will be fired.

Sir Alan’s already heard Lorraine’s sad story enough times, so her telling it again won’t help her any. The concern with her is that she doesn’t get along with anyone and would rather fight than work with her team. Her response to this is that she should have pushed her instincts more, but the problem was she kept pushing her instincts long after everyone else already moved on without her. With that said, Lorraine has been fired.

Although she claims she’s desperate to work for Sir Alan, Yasmina’s already running her own business. As for Debra, all of her good sides pale in comparison to her attitude.

Then there’s Kate. With no further ado, she’s in the final. There may be criticism she’s too robotic, but she’s been the obvious frontrunner all along.

So that leaves it between Yasmina and Debra for the final spot. This is the tough decision for him. Debra has been fired. Now it’s just a question of whether she can actually change her spots. That means Yasmina will be advancing to the final with Kate.

So You Think You Can Dance Season 5 Top 20

Last night brought us down to the top 16 girls and top 16 boys, and tonight an additional 6 will be cut from each, bringing us down to the top 20.

Janette Manrara is in the top 20.

Diana Vaden has been eliminated.

Vitolio Jeune is in the top 20.

Then we get a montage of people getting eliminated, whoever they are.

Kayla Rodomski is in the top 20.

Kuponohi’ipoi Aweau is in the top 20. Good luck spelling that each week.

Paris Torres, Jeanine Mason, Ade Obayomi, Karla Garcia, and Jonathan Platero are the next to advance.

Mia pretty much hates Brandon’s guts and doesn’t hide it. Lil C makes it less personal but is not impressed. Mary interrupts to give her opinion. She doesn’t want to sit and listen to this crap. With all that said, Brandon Bryant has received 4 votes out of 6, which is enough to get him into the top 20.

Tony Bellissimo goes to the top 20 despite being told his dance technique is not as strong as it probably should be. They’d like to see him grow.

Maksim Kapitannikov, Caitlin Kinney, Melissa Sandvig, and Jason Glover are the next group to make the top 20.

Ashley Valerio has returned for her fourth year, and the fourth time’s a charm.

Randi Evans is in the top 20.

Alex Wong is under contract with Miami City Ballet. They will not let him out of his contract even for the time this show lasts. I wasn’t expecting that answer. Certainly reflects poorly on them, but they can pretty much tell they may as well keep him as long as they can because they’re going to lose him sooner or later.

Then four more people are cut, and it’s entirely unclear who they are.

Phillip Chbeeb is in the top 20.

The last spot for the girls is between Deanna and Asuka Kondoh. Asuka has joined the top 20.

There’s one spot left for the guys. It’s brother against brother. Evan Kasprzak and Ryan Kasprzak will compete for it, with one going to the top 20 and the other coming back and entering the top 20 next year. Cat calls this the most difficult piece of news to break. Oh, like this isn’t intentional. You could have revealed the news to one of them earlier. Younger brother Evan advances, perhaps on the strength of his brother’s choreography.

To recap, the top 10 girls are:
Asuka Kondoh
Ashley Valerio
Caitlin Kinney
Janette Manrara
Jeanine Mason
Karla Garcia
Kayla Rodomski
Melissa Sandvig
Paris Torres
Randi Evans

And the top 10 boys are:
Ade Obayomi
Brandon Bryant
Evan Kasprzak
Jason Glover
Jonathan Platero
Kuponohi’ipoi Aweau
Maksim Kapitannikov
Phillip Chbeeb
Tony Bellissimo
Vitolio Jeune

Survivor: Borneo Episode 8

Following the merger, the alliance of four proved they had control of the game when they voted out Gretchen, while every other person in the tribe voted for every other person in the tribe in Survivor: Borneo Episode 7.

Is Jenna being paranoid, or was the Tagi tribe smarter than the incredibly dumb Pagong tribe?

Rudy wanted to get rid of Gretchen because he felt she was going to be their next leader. Sean doesn’t like that people are playing the game. Greg doesn’t either. As for Gervase, he won’t believe there’s an alliance until it happens again and they’re completely outnumbered.

Jenna’s plan is to bond with the women, like she did over on Pagong. Sue likes Jenna better than she thought she would. She doesn’t drive her at all crazy. However, she has no plan to turn on her alliance and form an all woman alliance.

They only have two days worth of rice at the rate they’re eating. Might be time to start rationing. Regardless, Rich is bringing back a shark for them to eat. He’s wondering who voted for him. They all raise their hands. He thinks it may have been Greg, but the correct answer is Colleen.

Jenna sees Greg as devious. Is he trying to ally with the other side? Speaking of devious, he’s getting ready to snap Colleen’s neck. Since Rich finds Greg attractive, Greg plans to use that to his advantage.

Reward sounds like it’s going to be something from home. Everybody knows Jenna wants this the most. They get to practice with some bows and arrows the day before the challenge. When Jeff arrives, he brings a TV with him. He will show short clips of videos from home, and the winner will get to see the whole thing. There’s a but coming. The other videos have all arrived, but Jenna doesn’t get one. Her family didn’t return the video. If she wins the challenge, she will be allowed to make a tape to send to her family, which is part of the reward, in addition to seeing the entire video. Greg shoots first. Jenna misses his mark. Rudy misses everything. Sean follows suit but at least gets in the right neighborhood. Sue’s still behind Greg, as is Kelly. Colleen misses completely. Gervase hits the target but not close enough. Hatch has the last shot, but it’s not close enough, which the others seem to indicate was on purpose. Greg wins reward. The others watch the video with him, while Jenna practices hitting the bullseye.

When they return to camp, it’s looking like Jenna may be wanting to leave. Gervase views her as a threat because he’s a parent, a role she may well be playing better than he can. Gervase’s strategy remains to do nothing.

The immunity challenge is a rope course designed to be confusing. They must be attached to the rope at all times while trying to avoid dead ends. Gervase is off to an early lead. Jenna and Sean are behind him. Greg is lost. Gervase is still in the lead and first to station 5. This didn’t look too confusing. Gervase didn’t seem to have much trouble with the course at all, nor did the two people following him, and Gervase wins immunity.

The alliance still knows they’re not invincible. Their hope is that the rest of the players continue to be idiots.

At tribal, Jeff asks Colleen if she would do whatever it takes to win the money. No. That answer about sums up where their fate is heading.

All of Jenna’s tribemates voted against her, presumably due to her homesickness (although Greg says he did it because his ear infection is clearing up). Well, at least they’re working somewhat together now. With the assistance of the alphabetical vote, however, the alliance remains in control, as Greg has been voted off the island.

The Bachelorette Season 5 Episode 3

After Julien, Brian, Mathue, and Simon were eliminated in The Bachelorette 5 Episode 2, Jillian’s down to just 16 guys now.

Ed gets the one-on-one date. He hops in a helicopter to go to a mystery location. He’s not sure whether he likes looking at the scenery or Jillian more. Aww. They land on top of a building in downtown LA. There’s only one way down. From the outside. He considers himself more adventurous than dangerous, and he just hopes this is all legal. Jillian believes that, in order to find love, you need to take a leap of faith (off a skyscraper). Once attached to the wires, they are lowered down to the ground. Jillian’s concern is that Ed may be too involved in his career, which she is able to relate to. His other potential problem is that he doesn’t open up very easily, but he realizes that there’s not a lot of time to waste here. Jillian still wants to learn more, but she knows enough to give him a rose.

Reid, Wes, Mike, Michael, Tanner F, Mark, Brad, Robby, Tanner P, Kiptyn, and Juan get the group date. So that’s 11. They take a limo to the wild west (movie set). Half the guys on this show are probably hoping to get acting/modeling gigs out of it, so this should work quite well for them. The guys are excited to find out they’ll be kissing Jillian. The bad news is that a lot of guys will be kissing Jillian. Too bad for Michael he’s playing a gay cowboy, and he’s been paired up with Mike. So will they be kissing? Jillian kisses at the card table, she kisses the guy who rescues her from the guy at the card table, she kisses her guy farewell, she kisses in the jail cell. She asks for less tongue. The one kiss that wasn’t her acting was the one with Robby. Feeling left out, Wes takes Jillian away to talk to her about this kissfest. This jealousy isn’t lost on Jilian. As for Mike and Michael, they’re not going to be kissing anyone. They do get hugs, though. Manly hugs. Jillian’s glad they didn’t kiss, no matter how much the other guys wanted them to.

Once the acting’s done, they go to a penthouse. Reid says he’s only been in love 1.5 times in his life. Just as he’s going in for the kiss, Juan barges in. He wants to defend himself after what happened the other night with him being voted by the guys as the one they wanted to leave most. He realizes that people picked people they didn’t like. Speaking of Juan, David’s sitting at the house going on about how much he hates him (yeah, that same broken record). I get the sense that David didn’t pass the psych test coming into this. Back at the hotel, they get in the hot tub built for a dozen, where Tanner P immediately starts getting off on Jillian’s feet. Jillian tells Robby that she liked their scene the best, as well as their kiss. Their kiss at the hotel doesn’t last very long before Brad starts yelling about it, but Robby gets the rose.

Sasha gets the one-on-one date. According to him, he’s one of the more well rounded individuals in the house, so she made a good choice by picking him. If you say so, dude. Wes is bummed that he’s not getting this alone time with her, so he wrote a song for her and will sing it later to promote his country music career win some points with her. Like this guy isn’t getting old already. Sasha and Jillian go to see some antique cars because she loves “anything with a motor.” When they’re done taking pictures of each other, he drives like a maniac, presumably breaking at least one law on national TV, and she loves it. At dinner, he tells a story about his first truck flipped over on his back, which nearly crippled or killed him. He learned from that experience (apparently not the don’t drive dangerously part) and says it pointed him in the right direction in his life. Jillian appreciates that he told her this sad story. He’s been in love three times (twice in high school, which didn’t really count) but hasn’t had his heart broken. He is in search of a mythical unicorn called true love. Afraid that Sasha’s not quite ready for this experience yet, Jillian has decided not to give him a rose. Next she’ll break the news to him about Santa Claus.

Now that the date’s over, it’s time for Wes to sing Jillian the song he claims he wrote for her. I’m having trouble taking this guy seriously, but apparently Jillian’s falling for it.

This week, three guys end up dateless: David, Jesse, and Jake. Jake got the individual date with Jillian last week and got to spend some time with her at the mansion, so he should be good.

David, however, is in the process of freaking out because he doesn’t feel like he’s getting enough time with Jillian. While they’re talking, he begins to say that there are other guys in the house that she’s not a good fit for. With that said, Juan would like to steal her away. This won’t end well. David’s patience is starting to wear thin. I didn’t notice a change. Jillian appreciates that Juan is there for her and not really paying attention to the guys.

Tanner P is there to suck on some toes. But first, he wants to get to know Jillian better. While they’re talking, she tosses her feet in his lap to distract him.

Ed is expecting the rose ceremony to be a train wreck. The increasingly drunk David is growing increasingly angry. David’s not saying he’s the person for Jillian, so long as he can make an effort to ruin Juan’s chances. Brad sees David with his mad face on (as if there’s another) and confronts him about it. He tells Jillian that Dave’s the scariest dude in the house. David begins to take it out on the other guys because they’re not trashing Juan as well. Into this discussion walks Juan, who’s told to go back inside because they’re talking about him.

Taking a break from the drama for a bit, Jillian asks Kiptyn how come he’s never been dumped before. She’s getting really hung up on that question.

Back to the ranting maniac. In the middle of this latest rant, Juan walks out and is told to go back inside again. This time, he speaks his mind. David’s entire issue apparently stems from Juan faking drinking a shot. In Dave’s world, that is justification for hating someone’s guts. After a couple minutes of ranting, David, who previously mocked Juan for walking away, now walks away himself. He’s done complaining now that Juan’s actually in the room. Jillian comes to talk to the guys, but before they can tell her what’s been going on, Chris conveniently walks in to drag her away.

Following Sasha’s departure earlier in the episode, Brad and Tanner F have now been eliminated. Tanner F just hopes Jillian doesn’t pick someone like Wes, but he realizes he should have tried to make a connection earlier. Brad doesn’t get how Tanner P or David are still there. After his display tonight, David looks pretty close to sealing his own fate and being kicked off the show, should the producers allow it.

Survivor: Borneo Episode 7

Joel was voted out in Survivor: Borneo Episode 6 because, well, mostly because Pagong are stupid.

To begin the merger process, Jenna and Sean have been nominated to be ambassadors to negotiate where they will live. Doesn’t look like it’ll be much of a negotation, though. The Tagi camp is a lot better organized, and adding to that Hatch’s fishing ability makes that camp the obvious choice.

The strategy’s already starting. The alliance would like to get rid of someone on the other team first. After that, what about Sean?

Tagi likes Jenna, to a point. The fact that she never shuts up is not lost on them. Granted, Sean never stops talking either.

Jenna and Sean row out to commence their talks. To help their task go a little easier, they will be receiving lobster and wine. By the next morning, they will need to decide on a tribe name, flag, location of the camp, and which three items they will bring with them. Both of them believe it’s supposed to be a romantic evening, but neither are interested in that. They do, however, both get pretty drunk, without a lot of concern for the task at hand.

During this time, the rest of the tribes are not given any clue what’s happening, so they’re left to wonder all day what’s going to happen.

When Jenna returns, she tells her tribe that they’ve got 5 minutes to pack up their backpacks, luxury items, and the three items they have agreed upon: mosquito nets, wool blanket, and cooking pot. They will be headed to Tagi’s camp, which nobody objects to. They have also decided on a new tribe name, Rattana.

Rudy isn’t looking forward to the change. He’s never going to be not set in his ways.

Greg already knows that Rich is playing a big game.

One of their bright ideas is to reinforce the roof. The roof collapses while they’re doing this. The women are working on fixing up the shelter, while the guys sit back and play games and chat.

Thinking now that he’s on the other camp he can start catching stuff, Greg goes out fishing. He returns with a sea urchin, which may be useful for bait at best. Hatch is happy to see this.

The first night is a chance to tell stories of their conquests. Rudy is not interested in hearing any of this.

The newly redone shelter didn’t work. Everybody ended up getting wet, and there was not enough room. Rudy didn’t have any problem kicking people in the head. They should give him more room, but if not they’ll learn that you don’t mess with an old man.

The first immunity challenge is just a matter of who can hold their breath the longest. The last three to surface move on to the final round. Kelly comes up at 30 seconds. Jenna at 38 seconds and Colleen right behind her. Sue is next at 55 seconds. Gretchen is the last woman standing at just over a minute. Rudy is next at 1:20. Hatch comes up at 1:33, which is rather odd since he probably could have stayed down for the longest, but he has to know he’s safe for now. Sean shakes Greg’s hand and comes up at 1:50. Greg comes up immediately after, and Gervase follows him. Sean, Gervase, and Greg advance. The final round is to swim out across a ladder and release all their buoys. Since there is swimming involved, Gervase isn’t even a factor. It’s between Greg and Sean, and both of them are flying right along without coming up. Greg wins immunity by a nose.

Hatch realizes that his alliance is solid, but they’re not in control yet because there are only 4 of them.

Greg has no interest in playing the game. He’d rather be voted out than form alliances.

Jenna, meanwhile, has no interest in playing the game wisely. She’ll vote based on people’s merits, regardless of whether they were on her tribe or not.

At the end of the day, if Pagong can’t get it together and get on the same page, the voting block of Tagi will take them out. The only part of Tagi that doesn’t have an interest in playing the game is Sean. After playing the first part of the game with a reasonable amount of sense, his infamous alphabetical order voting strategy begins now.

An alliance of four isn’t big enough to control the game, unless the other six people are complete idiots and vote for a different person each. With 4 votes, Gretchen has been voted out.

Survivor: Borneo Episode 6

With the others deciding they were fed up with the boys wasting time, Dirk was voted out in Survivor: Borneo Episode 5.

In three days, the two tribes will merge. The tribes are well aware of exactly when this will happen.

Kelly doesn’t think Pagong is taking this very seriously. Sue would like to get rid of Greg, Jenna, and Gervase.

Over on Pagong, they’re getting ready to kill a chicken. Colleen doesn’t want to watch this slaughter. She mostly just thought chickens came from a bucket. Their plan is to eat a chicken each day so that they’re finished prior to the merge.

Meanwhile, on Tagi, the emperor has no clothes. Once Hatch finally puts his clothes on, they begin to discuss the alliance. Rudy is finally onboard.

Gervase made a colorful remark: girls are the stupidest thing on the planet next to cows. Good luck dancing your way out of that comment. In addition to that, he hasn’t done a thing ever since he’s been on the island. Despite that, he’s never been on the chopping block.

The tribes get a can of dog food. Richard Hatch is happy to eat it. The boys don’t want any part of it on Pagong, but the girls will go ahead and eat as much of it as they can stomach.

The challenge is to find items abandoned by fleeing troops. They have to bring back items one at a time without bringing back duplicates. Reward is canned food and chocolate. Jenna starts off outrunning the doctor. He’s first out with the army helmet, then she grabs the army helmet as well. Sue is next up for Tagi, followed by Gervase. She’s got the pocket knife. Hatch is off next. Gervase has finally found something and gets the can opener. Gretchen is next for Pagong. Hatch gets the knife, a duplicate item. That’s Pagong’s knife, so it goes to them. They win reward.

Pagong has agreed to stick together. Or rather, Pagong minus Gretchen. She refuses to join an alliance.

Joel’s alienating the women on his team. They think he’s treating him like they’re dumb. He’s trying to convince himself he’s not a chauvinist.

The last immunity challenge has been constructed by the Green Berets. It’s an official US Army obstacle course. Rudy knows the winner is only going to be as fast as the slowest person. Since it’s a 4 member race, Rudy, Gervase, and Colleen sit out. Joel and Jenna run the first half of the race against Kelly and Sean. Tagi’s got a slight lead, and they join Richard and Sue at the half way point. For Pagong, Gretchen and Greg join at that point. The blown bridge requires strategy, as compared with the more physical first half of the race. Tagi retains their lead over the bridge and wins immunity.

That means the tribes will be going into the merge even at 5 against 5. The problem for Pagong is that they’re a lot more fractured than Tagi is.

After their loss, they’re happy that they can at least return for some chicken. The monitor ate their chicken, though.

Joel’s seen that Jenna has trouble hiding her guilt, and he has noticed that she’s been avoiding him the past couple days, so he assumes he is her target. He is correct. In this boys vs. girls divide, Colleen wants to vote against Gervase.

Joel has been linked to Gervase’s cow comments, although he’s not quite sure how. Gervase still feels invincible. Nobody wants to own up to feeling uncertain about the vote.

Octomom Reality Show

Nadya Suleman, who recently became the poster child for giving perspective parents tests before allowing them to give birth after she popped out children numbers 7-14 while unemployed and on public assistance, has been fielding offers since the children were born. Jeff Czech, Suleman’s lawyer, confirmed to US Magazine that she has finalized a deal to star in her own reality show.

“[Nadya and the producers] are hoping to have an arrangement whereby several events in the children’s lives would be filmed in a documentary series,” Czech told Us.

“One of the events in the children’s lives might be their first birthday.”

The production company, Eyeworks, is currently shopping the idea to networks. It doesn’t look like they’re either overly picky or for that matter have made up their mind what they even want to do. Whatever a network is desperate enough to accept will work for them.

“They might be several shows aired during a year. There are all kinds of possibilities. It really depends on what the networks want,” her lawyer said.

“Her television program will not be like the Jon and Kate Plus 8 show,” said Czech. “[Nadya] is looking forward to providing her side of the story.”

The problem now is going to be finding a network to actually air this because nobody seems to want to touch the negative publicity. When reports first surfaced about an Octomom show last month, TLC reportedly called Suleman “much crazier than they expected” and did not want to work with her, while Bravo told THR to “Please say, ‘a Bravo spokesperson said we are not interested in this.’”

Britain’s Got Talent 2009 Winner

In series 3, Britain’s Got Talent become more popular than ever, with an especially large international audience thanks in large part to one of the most overrated reality TV contestants in recent memory, singer Susan Boyle.

As much hype as there was surrounding Boyle, mounting speculation during the semi-final rounds was that she was no sure thing to win, as there was a lot of talent (in addition to some acts that slipped through merely because they were desperate to fill 40 slots). The top ten who competed in the final were:

2 Grand: grandfather and granddaughter singing duo (on her own, the granddaughter had potential, though either way Callum Francis should have advanced instead)
Aidan Davis: 12 year old dancer (who many said was better than last year’s winner George Sampson)
Diversity: male dance group
Flawless: male dance group
Hollie Steel: 10 year old singer (who many felt was put through with a pity vote after she broke down crying during her semi-final performance)
Julian Smith: saxophonist
Shaheen Jafargholi: 12 year old singer (arguably the best singer in the competition)
Shaun Smith: singer
Stavros Flatly: Greek dancing father and son seriously needing to start wearing shirts
Susan Boyle: singer

The top three acts as voted for by the public are: Susan Boyle, Julian Smith, and Diversity.

In third place is Julian Smith. The Britain’s Got Talent 2009 winner is Diversity. The group dance acts normally get lost in the shuffle, but their creativity made them stand out, which can be attributed largely to choreographer and lead dancer Ashley Banjo. With their win, they are now £100,000 richer and will be performing for the queen at the Royal Variety. As for the other acts, there are several who can make careers out of their talents, not the least of which is runner up Susan Boyle, who Simon Cowell will no doubt be signing any day now.
