The Biggest Loser Season 15 Episode 2

In the super rushed The Biggest Loser Season 15 Episode 1, nothing of consequence happened because Jillian used her veto to save Craig after her fell below the red line.

Craig tells a story about how his father died when he was 32, just a couple years older than Craig is.

Dr. H has some news for Ruben. He has diabetes, which can be reversed, but he will have to put in the hard work to do so.

Bob’s facial hair is getting out of control. Somebody needs to participate in makeover week.

This week, only one person’s weight will count for the entire team. That person will be chosen by the roll of a die. The team that wins the challenge will get a second die so that they have two people to choose between.

At the challenge, they are tied together to run back and forth and roll dice dictating how many buckets of water they can use to fill a tank. Though speed has the potential to play a small role, the end result mostly comes down to dumb luck. The blue team ends up winning the challenge.

When he came to the ranch, Hap’s wife was 8.5 months pregnant. That makes today the first time he gets to see his new child by video chat.

The trainers roll dice prior to the weigh in. Dolvett hopes for Rachel or Jennifer, but he rolls Tanya, disappointing both himself and her. Jillian rolls Fernanda, the worst case scenario for both of them. Bob rolls Chelsea, who is not happy and Hap, which thrills both of them, so Hap will represent the blue team.

Chelsea: 223 pounds (-6, 2.62%)
Holley: 325 pounds (-10, 2.99%)
Matt: 325 pounds (-8, 2.40%)
Bobby: 328 pounds (-10, 2.96%)
Hap: 373 pounds (-13, 3.37%)
Blue Total: 1574 pounds (-47, 2.90%)

I will say this for these abridged episodes. It’s nice not to have to go to commercial 12 times during a weigh in.

Craig: 361 pounds (-11, 2.96%)
Marie: 235 pounds (-5, 2.08%)
Tumi: 305 pounds (-8, 2.62%)
Jay: 263 pounds (-11, 4.01%)
Fernanda: 236 pounds (-2, 0.84%)
White Total: 1392 pounds (-37, 2.59%)

Jennifer: 246 pounds (-9, 3.53%)
Ruben: 431 pounds (-10, 2.27%)
Rachel: 231 pounds (-8, 3.35%)
David: 360 pounds (-11, 2.96%)
Tanya: 242 pounds (-4, 1.63%)
Red Total: 1510 pounds (-42, 2.71%)

Tanya has a bad weak, but she gets lucky when Fernanda has a terrible week, though such a number is not overly surprising for week two. Even without the twist, the white team would have lost the weigh in. As the person with the lowest percentage of weight loss on the losing team, Fernanda has fallen below the red line.

The Biggest Loser Season 15 Episode 1

The Biggest Loser is back. Kind of. For season 15 (Second Chances 2), the show has been shrunk down to an hour a week and maybe a dozen episodes for just one run this year (it will not be back midseason as The Voice takes over its time slot because NBC sucks).

The 15 new contestants who make up The Biggest Loser Season 15 cast include the heaviest contestant this year, American Idol winner Ruben Studdard.

Bob, Jillian, and Dolvett were allowed to choose who is coming to the ranch. We start the show with a brief glimpse at the casting interviews followed by singing competition style process of elimination.

Rachel used to be a national level swimmer. Holley is a current Olympic weightlifter. Jay was a rodeo athlete (is that a thing?). Tanya gained 125 pounds while pregnant with her daughter, and her daughter was then born overweight.

David is unable to finish the first workout and is the first to be tossed out of the gym, though he probably will not be the last.

Jillian wants to get rid of Ruben’s disturbing back (and shoulder) hair.

After their initial workout, the trainers announce the teams they have picked. And they speed through it so fast with no logical order that I can’t even keep up and have to fill in all the names as the show goes by.

Jillian: Craig, Tumi, Rachel, Marie, Fernanda
Bob: Holley, Chelsea, Jay, Matt, Bobby
Dolvett: Ruben, Jennifer, Tanya, David, Hap

Speaking of speeding through things because the episodes are apparently too short, we don’t have time for a starting weigh in, so this is how things start.

Bobby: 358 pounds
Chelsea: 241 pounds
Craig: 385 pounds
David: 409 pounds
Fernanda: 250 pounds
Hap: 403 pounds
Holley: 351 pounds
Jay: 297 pounds
Jennifer: 266 pounds
Marie: 249 pounds
Matt: 356 pounds
Rachel: 260 pounds
Ruben: 462 pounds
Tanya: 262 pounds
Tumi: 319 pounds

There will be no yellow line tonight. Rather, there is a red line. Whoever has the lowest percentage of weight loss on the losing team will be eliminated.

This season’s twist is that there will be a trainer’s save. Each trainer will be allowed to save one person.

Then it’s time to rush through the weigh in. Breathe, people. You sure are making this impossible to live blog. If I didn’t have the starting weights, I’d be completely lost.

Holley: 335 pounds (-16, 4.56%)
Hap: 386 pounds (-17, 4.22%)
Chelsea: 229 pounds (-12, 4.98%)
Matt: 333 pounds (-23, 6.46%)
Bobby: 338 pounds (-20, 5.59%)
Blue Team Total: 1621 pounds (-88, 5.15%)

Ruben: 441 pounds (-21, 4.55%)
Jennifer: 255 pounds (-11, 4.14%)
Tanya: 247 pounds (-15, 5.73%)
Rachel: 239 pounds (-21, 8.08%)
David: 371 pounds (-38, 9.29%)
Red Team Total: 1552 pounds (-107, 6.45%)

Tumi: 319 pounds (-14, 4.39%)
Fernanda: 238 pounds (-12, 4.80%)
Marie: 240 pounds (-9, 3.61%)
Jay: 274 pounds (-23, 7.74%)
Craig: 372 pounds (-13, 3.38%)
White Team Total: 1429 pounds (-71, 4.73%)

The blue team didn’t do much better, but the white team ended up being dragged down by a couple of particularly bad performances. Craig has fallen below the red line, but despite her warning that she probably would not use her save, Jillian saves him. Not only does this make good strategic sense since he’s the only male on her team, but I don’t think anyone wants to see someone go home after just one week.

The Biggest Loser Season 15 Cast

The Biggest Loser will be returning, more or less, next month. It will return a couple weeks late on Tuesday October 8 and be shrunk to just 1 hour from 8-9EST. Stupid The Voice. Bob, Jillian, and Dolvett will return as trainers, and each of them will be given the opportunity to save one of their contestants in this season dubbed Second Chances.

There are 15 new contestants who make up The Biggest Loser season 15 cast. The most noteworthy is American Idol season 2 winner Ruben Studdard. Unlike runner up Clay Aiken, he seems to have all but vanished since winning the show. Now weighing in at 462 pounds, he is the heaviest contestant on the show this season. The full cast includes:

Fernanda Abarca (3D Animation Artist/Cake Sugar Artist), 32, Montrose, Calif.

Craig Arrington (Warehouse Supervisor for Pharmaceutical Company), 30, Wilson, N.C.

Chelsea Arthurs (Clinical Research Professional/Event Planner), 28, Raleigh, N.C.

David Brown (Project Manager for Construction Company and Social Commerce Leader for Phone Company), 43, Edmond, Okla.

Rachel Frederickson (Voice-over Artist), 24, Los Angeles, Calif.

Hap Holmstead (Sales Consultant/Entrepreneur), 26, Pleasant Grove, Utah

Matt Hooper (Retail Manager), 38, Georgetown, Mass.

Holley Mangold (Olympic Weightlifter/Caterer), 24, Columbus, Ohio

Jennifer Messer (Clerk/Bookkeeper), 42, Abingdon, Va.

Tumi Oguntala (Brand Strategist), 41, Clifton Park, N.Y.

Marie Pearl (Senior Staff Accountant at a Community College), 30, Springfield, Mo.

Bobby Saleem (Attorney), 28, Chicago, Ill.

Jay Sheets (Marketing Associate for a Food Company), 38, Farmington, MO.

Ruben Studdard (Singer), 35, Birmingham, Ala.

Tanya Winfield (Chief Operating Officer of a Restaurant Franchise), 41, Plainfield, Ill.

The Biggest Loser Season 14 Winner

Gina fell below the red line in The Biggest Loser Season 14 Episode 11, Danni and Jeff made it safely into the finale, and Joe and Jackson are competing for America’s vote for the final slot.

America has chosen Jackson to join the final three.

The eliminated contestants will compete for the at home prize of $100,000.

Pam: 166 pounds (-71, 29.96%)
Nate: 260 pounds (-99, 27.58%)
Alex: 156 pounds (-84, 35.00%)
Francelina: 172 pounds (-95, 35.58%)
TC: 266 pounds (-110, 29.26%)
Michael: 308 pounds (-136, 30.63%)
Cate: 173 pounds (-64, 27.00%)
Lisa: 138 pounds (-108, 43.90%)
David: 205 pounds (-102, 33.22%)
Gina: 132 pounds (-113, 46.12%)
Joe: 217 pounds (-142, 40.38%)

With 46.12% lost, Gina is The Biggest Loser at home winner. I didn’t expect much from Gina during the first about 8 episodes and her many, many meltdowns, but nonetheless she consistently lost solid numbers and in the end seemed to have changed her negative mindset. The most surprising result of the lot is Lisa, who came in second after leaving in week 5.

Now it’s time to find out who the overall winner is.

Jackson: 190 pounds (-138, 42.07%)
Jeff: 207 pounds (-181, 46.65%)
Danni: 137 pounds (-121, 46.89%)

With a single pound separating first from second, The Biggest Loser season 14 winner is Danni Allen.

The Biggest Loser Season 14 Episode 11

Nobody was eliminated in The Biggest Loser Season 14 Episode 10, leading to a do over of the final five.

We have now entered what is largely a recap episode with the contestants (and kids) looking back at where they came from as compared to where they are now.

Dr. Joanna (who threw away the kids’ food) is back to give them an update. Lindsay does not have pre-diabetes any more. Biingo’s BMI has gone from the highest level down to a normal level, and he has lost 25% of his body weight, while his mother has gone down 5 dress sizes. Sunny had borderline high cholesterol, but now she is entirely normal, as all her other health problems are also gone.

Next Danni gets to pay a visit to Dr. H. He says she has had the best transformation ever at 3 months, having gained 19 pounds of muscle.

The final challenge of the season isn’t going to be taking place on the sunny ranch. Rather, they all head to a ski resort, where they have one last mountain to climb, while pulling a sled of weight that represents how much weight they lost each week. Reward is a 1 pound advantage. If history has shown us anything, this will come down to Danni and Joe battling each other. As expected, that’s how it starts, and that’s how it stays. Joe gets a slight edge and retains it throughout the challenge. Unlike every other challenge, Danni is unable to come from behind, and Joe wins reward.

In the final weigh in leading up to the finale, two people will move on to the final three, one person will fall below the red line, and two people will be left with their fates in America’s hands.

Joe: 239 pounds (-5, -1, 2.46%)
Jackson: 230 pounds (-5, 2.13%)
Gina: 161 pounds (-2, 1.23%)
Jeff: 265 pounds (-11, 3.99%)
Danni: 163 pounds (-11, 6.32%)

Danni blows everybody away. With an also impressive loss, Jeff will join her in the finals. Gina has fallen below the red line, but she leaves with a positive vibe that is the complete opposite of what we saw from her the first couple months on the ranch. That leaves Joe and Jackson competing for America’s vote.

From her starting weight of 245 pounds, Gina has lost 100 pounds and is now down to 145 pounds today.

Stay tuned to dingoRUE for another live recap of The Biggest Loser Season 14 Episode 12, where we will find out who The Biggest Loser Season 14 winner is, which airs Monday at 8/7c on NBC.

The Biggest Loser Season 14 Episode 10

Losing a vote against Jackson, Alex was eliminated in The Biggest Loser Season 14 Episode 9.

The final five have made it to makeover week with Tim Gunn and Ken Paves. Lindsay, Biingo, and Sunny will be getting makeovers as well. After they get new clothes and hair (and the men finally shave), they head to their hometowns to show off to their families.

When they get home, they receive a letter. They didn’t really think they were going home without a challenge. If they can lose 5% of their body weight over the next two weeks, they will earn immunity. Otherwise, they run the risk of elimination with no yellow line. Secondly, they will lead a workout for their friends, families, and communities.

After two weeks at home, they return to the ranch for the moment of truth. Last year, everybody reached their goal but Chism, who was immediately sent home.

Danni: 174 pounds (-10, 5.43%)
Jackson: 235 pounds (-15, 6.00%)
Joe: 244 pounds (-17, 6.51%)
Jeff: 276 pounds (-19, 6.44%)
Gina: 163 pounds (-10, 5.78%)

Everybody lost more than 5%, so everybody is safe.

Gina remains The Biggest Loser so far this season, but Danni and Joe are within 1% of her.

Unlike last year (and most other years, if not every other year) when the bunch of babies who I’m glad we haven’t had the misfortune of seeing again this year threw a hissy fit and quit and/or threatened to quit, there are not any plans to bring any returning contestants back for a second shot. Instead, this is the final five. The top two weight losers will be in the finals, one person will fall below the red line, and the other two will have their fates determined by America.

Stay tuned to dingoRUE for another live recap of The Biggest Loser Season 14 Episode 11, which airs Monday at 8/7c on NBC.

The Biggest Loser Season 14 Episode 9

The house failed miserably to work together in The Biggest Loser Season 14 Episode 8, which led to Francelina falling below the red line.

One person will be leaving the ranch for the week. They will decide who with a friendly competition. Their job is to use their 25 pounds blocks to protect their friends. The person who is unprotected is gone, while the person who stacks the most blocks will win a 1 pound advantage.

Jackson is going to protect Alex. Gina figures she’s the target, but she’d like to see Jackson saved. Danni and Joe are going at each other. Jeff is the first one to be safe, followed by Alex. Jackson asks that nobody protect him, the only thing that will save Gina, as he wants to fall on the sword and prove he can do it on his own. He struggles to find people to support his request, but by seconds he is the one to lose the challenge. Gina promises she will be good this week. The 1 pound advantage goes to Joe, who beat Danni by 1 block after she fell.

Here’s the bad news for Jackson. He thought he was just putting himself in the firing line. Of course, it doesn’t end there. He has to choose someone else to go with him. Only not really. Jeff volunteers. The others are not off the hook, as they are warned they will have to face their fears this week.

Lindsay will hang out with someone (the guidance counselor at her school) who has diabetes so that she can learn what it’s like to have it. Biingo’s greatest fear: vegetables. Bob will try to trick him into eating them without him knowing it, which he readily does, even though he supposedly does not like them. Sunny is afraid that her mother will die because she’s morbidly obese. Jillian suggests they talk about this.

Gina acknowledges a pattern in her life where she feels she’s not getting anything out of a relationship, so she explodes, destroying those relationships. Jillian has brought her to her funeral because she’s killing herself and her relationships. She climbs inside a coffin and is told to rest in peace. Creepy.

The challenge will involve falling off the side of a building. They will have to hold 40% of their body weight for as long as they can. Reward is immunity. Jeff has been struggling since the start, and he is the first one to take the 7 story ride to the bottom after 5 minutes. Jackson follows him with much dramatic yelling. Alex and Joe are next. It’s not surprising that two women are the last ones left standing: Gina and Danni. Gina looks strong and hasn’t really budged, but as the clock ticks, she starts to fade. Danni, meanwhile, is just barely hanging on, eventually dropping to one hand, but it’s not enough. Gina wins immunity, guaranteeing herself a spot in the final five.

Danni once mentioned to Jillian that she’s afraid of singing in public. So she will be performing on stage at a small lounge. She’s better than half the people on these stupid singing shows.

As for Joe, he’s afraid of sharks. Bob takes him to go swimming in the ocean where there may be some, which could be anywhere.

Gina apologizes to Alex for her behavior the last week or two or eight, saying that they won’t see that version of her again.

After the last chance workout, they face their final fear of the week: the scales.

The weigh in hasn’t even started yet, and Jillian jumps in about people volunteering to go to the house in the suburbs, rather than having access to world class trainers and equipment.

Gina: 173 pounds (-7, 3.89%, immune)
Jackson: 250 pounds (-11, 4.21%)
Jeff: 295 pounds (-13, 4.22%)
Joe: 261 pounds (-12, -1, 4.76%) – 100 pounds lost
Alex: 187 pounds (-8, 4.10%)
Danni: 184 pounds (-10, 5.15%)

With Gina being saved by immunity, Alex ends up below the yellow line along with Jackson. He clearly took an unnecessary risk, but at the same time, I’m not sure he really could have done any better on the ranch than he did on his own.

Votes
Joe: Alex
Danni: Alex

With 2 votes, Alex is not The Biggest Loser. From her starting weight of 240 pounds, Alex now weighs 170 pounds.

The Biggest Loser Season 14 Episode 8

Now that they’ve gone to singles, it’s time to start voting out the threats. Michael was the first victim of this in The Biggest Loser Season 14 Episode 7.

Jeff continues to protest too much about voting for Mike, something he said he never would do. In doing so, he does share that he has a similar story to Francelina, as both of them lost their fathers at a young age.

This week, immunity is up for grabs… for everybody. If they lose 70 pounds as a group, they are all safe. If not, there will be a red line.

The pop challenge can lower the goal weight. Biingo, Sunny, and Lindsay are the ones who will be tested. They must answer 5 basic nutrition questions and then do 5 exercises (beating their previous results) for a potential decrease in the goal weight by 1 pound each. They get the first two questions right but are incorrect that the Mexican food has fewer carbs than spaghetti and bread. They then get the next two questions correct. In a retest of their physical abilities, they are obviously more fit than they were on day 1. In total, they decrease the weight goal by 9 pounds to 61, the same amount they achieved last week when Mike was still there.

Here we are week 8, and Gina’s still throwing hissy fits. After giving a bunch of excuses and saying she can’t during the workout, she walks out of the gym, using the excuse that Joe said he hates lawyers. Who doesn’t? So much for work together week.

Speaking of more of the same, then we get to see more of Alex slacking off. So Jillian asks Gina to do the running instead. She can’t either. Then she walks out again, this time returning back to the house. Jillian’s tired of working with these quitters, so now she walks out. After more yelling, we finally get to a breakthrough where Alex acknowledges that she’s tired of her best never being good enough.

They are given yet another opportunity to reduce the goal weight at the next challenge. They must dig through sand hills and cross to the finish line at the end of the pier within half an hour. With seconds to spare, as Gina falls to the ground, Joe picks her up, surprising her that he can be a team player, though she struggles to do the same. Their goal is now 51 pounds, which should pretty easily be achieveable.

Jared stops by to tell them that this season’s winner (plus a favorite past contestant chosen by a public vote) will star in a Subway commercial with him.

Ready for Love? Oh c’mon, NBC, we didn’t need another singing competition, and we don’t need another marriage competition. What next? Dancing? Skating? A bunch of half naked people living in a house spied on by cameras 24/7?

After a high climbing trust building last chance workout, it’s time to see whether they have managed to lose the weight they need for everybody to stay safe. The trainers have been unimpressed by the team effort put forth this week. Jillian just wants them to be weighed in before Gina says anything else.

Danni: 194 pounds (-7, 3.48%)
Joe: 273 pounds (-6, 2.15%)
Jackson: 261 pounds (-5, 1.88%)
Alex: 195 pounds (-3, 1.52%)
Jeff: 308 pounds (-4, 1.28%)
Gina: 180 pounds (-4, 2.17%)
Francelina: 211 pounds (-2, 0.94%)

They needed an average of 3.09% to hit the 51 pound goal. With only Danni hitting that mark, they fell 20 pounds short after a disastrous attempt at working toward a common goal. As the person with the lowest percentage of weight loss this week, Francelina has fallen below the red line and is not The Biggest Loser. Having not gotten caught up in the drama of the week, she receives nothing but kind words from everybody as she departs.

From her starting weight of 267 pounds, she is down now to 190 pounds for a total weight loss of 77 pounds. Now outside the ranch, she’s started dating Jeff.

Stay tuned to dingoRUE for another live recap of The Biggest Loser Season 14 Episode 9, which airs Monday at 8/7c on NBC.
