The Biggest Loser 4 Episode 8

In The Biggest Loser Episode 7, the teams were broken up into smaller teams of three. Everybody but Amy stayed with their original trainers. Then after that, we were in for what was as shocking as advertised: Neil gained 17 pounds. Absolutely ridiculous. But in the end, neither wanting to send a message to Neil nor wanting to realize that in this episode Neil’s a huge threat due to his prior weight gain, the teams sent Jez home.

Neil says he’s not a bad guy but that this is a game, and if someone doesn’t see this as a game, they’re naive, which is how they end up going home. Isabeau’s apparently believing that he was just trying to send someone else home, which is kind of a duh thing, but ultimately someone else going home means he doesn’t. She doesn’t trust him any more, which is particularly bad since they’re partners.

Kae, who’s consistently been the strongest one, says things have changed, and she’s sick of playing the game. She packs her bags but decides not to leave.

Kim’s happy because her team’s just training and not getting involved in the drama.

Amy makes a confession to Jillian that she didn’t lose any weight due to pressure from Neil.

Hollie’s concerned she’ll go home because on the other three teams, there was one person who didn’t lose any weight.

The challenge is about endurance. Each team will get on seasaws suspended above the water. They will hold their teams’ weight up. When they let go of the rope, they fall in and lose. They’ll win a mystery box as a surprise. Neil and Isabeau are out first. Next out are David, Kae, and Hollie. Amy, Bill, and Julie are the last ones eliminated, so Bryan, Ryan, and Nicole win. The reward is that each person on the winning team gets a vote, as long as they don’t drop below the yellow line. With two of them being blue, this again doesn’t bode well for black team, although I don’t think any of them consider Hollie, the person most likely to be on the losing team, to be enough of a threat to waste a vote on her.

Bob talks to Kae and tells her to lighten up a bit. He knows she’s under pressure because of how well she’s been doing.

Neil: 339 pounds (-33)
Isabeau: 255 pounds (no change)
Total: -33 pounds (5.26%)

Isabeau acknowledges she took advantage of the situation and justifies her lack of weight loss by saying “I don’t feel that that’s manipulation. I feel that that’s smart.” So let me get this straight. If Neil does this, he’s evil. If Isabeau does it, she’s smart. Thanks for the explanation. Hypocrite.

Nicole: 235 pounds (-9)
Bryan: 289 pounds (-8)
Ryan: 308 pounds (-13)
Total: -30 pounds (3.48%)

Amy: 254 pounds (-11)
Bill: 251 pounds (-10)
Julie: 186 pounds (-6)
Total: -27 pounds (3.76%)

Though both have previously lost similar amounts, based on their losses, it is quite possible both Amy and Ryan may have not lose weight on purpose last week.

Hollie: 218 pounds (-5)
Kae: 168 pounds (-6)
David: 312 pounds (-3)
Total: -14 pounds (1.97%)

Kae just keeps on going and is now over a total of 25%, but Hollie was right to worry about the way the weights stacked up last week. Not a bad weak for the team, but not enough to compete with the big numbers the others put up. Because they’re not below the yellow line, Bryan, Ryan, and Nicole will each receive a vote.

Neil, Isabeau: David
Bill, Julie, Amy: David
Bryan: Kae
Nicole: David

So much for the theory that the red and blue teams are trying to assassinate the black team. David returns home to his son’s first birthday party. Today he weighs 263 pounds, down 105 pounds from his starting weight of 368.

The Biggest Loser 4 Episode 7

In The Biggest Loser 4 Episode 6, the already decimated red team decided to just go for broke and vote for a tie, eliminating the person they considered the biggest individual game threat, Phil, who has remained the only person giving them even a prayer of remaining competitive. Blue team, the winner of the weigh in, was more than happy to oblige.

Lucky for the red team, the teams are being broken up, and they will be divided into new teams of three. The winner of the temptation will configure the teams as they see fit. They will be playing high-low and be betting with calories. Whatever they bet, they have to eat.

Everybody antes up, two vanilla wafers, totalling 36 calories, with the exception of Kae, who’s not only been consistently the biggest loser, but just says it’s not worth it. Bryan gets a 2 and decides to bluff, raising 3 vanilla wafers (to 90 calories total). Bill raises two crackers (to 122 calories total). Amy tosses in a stack of Reese’s peanutbutter cups (to 522 calories total), a ridiculous bet that may have been based more on eating chocolate and peanutbutter than actually winning, but big enough to scare some people. Neil folds. Isabeau with an ace calls, as does Nicole. Ryan folds, as does David. Hollie raises three chocolate chip cookies (to 681 calories total). Julie folds. Jez raises cheese and two chocolate peppermints (to 857 calories total). Despite only having a 2, Bryan raises two cheese and two Oreos (to 1103 calories total). Bill folds. Amy again makes the most ridiculous raise, tossing in her whole pile (to 1750 calories total). At least she’s now gone from saying “Mmm…” to being grossed out, though. Julie, despite having an Ace, folds because she doesn’t think it’s worth it. Nicole also folds, as does Hollie. Jez calls. Bryan finally folds. Why the hell he ate the 1103 calories in the first place is beyond me. It comes down to Amy and Jez. Amy has a 9. Jez wins with an Ace.

Team one: Kae, David, Hollie
Team two: Amy, Julie, Bill
Team three: Bryan, Nicole, Ryan
Team four: Neil, Isabeau, Jez

The trainers come in, and the players get them up to speed. Then Amy starts whining at Kim for wanting to get rid of her. Don’t worry, Amy, nobody’s going to get rid of you any time soon. Amy decides to train with Jillian instead. She couldn’t even handle training with Kim. Other than that, all the teams stick with their original trainers.

Teams must complete 75 revolutions of metal arms. Two team members will be on platforms (adding their weight to what must be pushed), while the third pushes the arm, and they can swap out as needed. The winner will receive a Bowflex home gym. Kae and Hollie come up with the strategy of using their weight to help out, pushing from the platform. Neil’s the first to swap out at about 5 circles. Bill subs out at 12. Bryan and Bill lead their teams and are pretty competitive throughout, but Bill’s team eventually takes a 2 circle lead. Bill, Amy, and Julie win the challenge.

It’s time for the weigh in.

Bill: 261 pounds (-7)
Amy: 265 pounds (no change)
Julie: 192 pounds (-3)
Total: -10 pounds (1.37%)

I don’t think Amy’s numbers necessarily reflect her trainer switch so much as her attitude.

Bryan: 297 pounds (-7)
Ryan: 321 pounds (+1)
Nicole: 244 pounds (-4)
Total: -10 pounds (1.15%)

Kae: 174 pounds (-4)
Hollie: 223 pounds (-2)
David: 315 pounds (-8)
Total: -14 pounds (1.93%)

Jez: 289 pounds (-6)
Isabeau: 255 pounds (-4)
Neil: 372 pounds (+17)
Total: +7 pounds (+0.77%)

What the hell was that? Wow, Jez, great job of picking teams. Neil tries to cover it up, but no matter what his argument is, I find it hard to believe anyone would buy it. Neil finally reveals that he made a promise to blue team he’d do whatever he could to keep them there, including throwing the weigh in to get rid of one of his new teammates from the black team. From the sounds of it, he drank excessive amounts of water, enough to run the risk of death from water intoxication.

Votes
Julie, Bill, Amy: Neil
Ryan, Bryan, Nicole: Jez
David, Kae, Hollie: Jez

Jez has been eliminated. He definitely got blindsided by Neil’s over the top actions. What Neil did is completely understandable because it is a game and will buy him more time in the house, but next time try not to make it so ridiculously obvious.

Today, Jez weighs 242 pounds, down 103 pounds from his starting weight of 345.

The Biggest Loser 4 Episode 6

In The Biggest Loser 4 Episode 6, the black team lost the weigh in, despite torturing themselves and refusing to indulge while on vacation in Jamaica. In a strategic move, one of the twins, Jim, was eliminated.

Bob seems to be getting tired of losing challenges. This time, the challenge is not about fastest time but who can carry weight the furthest. Each teammate will carry weights (60% of body weight for women, 75% for men) as far as they can. Whichever team carries the weight the furthest wins. Red team drops out first with Amy. Nicole is next out for blue team. Hollie just keeps going and is last out. Next up is Jez for the black team, Kae for the blue team, and Bryan for the red team. This puts black and blue teams within 6 feet of each other, with red still way behind following a horrible performance by Amy. Ryan is next for blue, and despite a strong effort, Bill drops out in second for black, so Phil ends up winning it for the red team, in spite of them, not because of them. As one of the others said, he won this challenge and the others. Even if it’s reasonably fair to say there was some fairness to how the weight was determined, I think it’s fair to say Phil’s got a lot more muscle than the rest. As a reward, the red team is able to see videos of their family.

Dave starts to whine about not wanting to do what he’s being told because he prefers to go at a ridiculously slow pace instead. Kim keeps pushing, and he keeps whining. She loses her cool and swears, and he hops off the treadmill and leaves the room (swearing at her that he doesn’t like people swearing at him).

Jillian gets a call from Hollie’s stepfather telling her that her mother had a relapse with leukemia, and they’re not sure what’s going to happen. Hollie goes home to talk to her mom and see how she’s doing. At the weigh in, it’s revealed that her mom died a couple hours before.

It’s now time for the weigh in.

Blue Team
Nicole: 248 pounds (-4)
Neil: 355 pounds (-10)
Kae: 178 pounds (-6)
Ryan: 320 pounds (-11)
Total: -31 pounds (2.74%)

Red Team
Amy: 265 pounds (-3)
David: 323 pounds (-5)
Bryan: 304 pounds (-4)
Phil: 342 pounds (-4)
Total: -16 pounds (1.28%)

Black Team
Hollie (weighed in earlier): 225 pounds (-3)
Isabeau: 259 pounds (-5)
Julie: 195 pounds (-4)
Jez: 295 pounds (-7)
Bill: 268 pounds (-11)
Total: -30 pounds (2.36%)

Kae’s amazing. She keeps putting up huge numbers for someone her size. Just in general, though, blue team did quite well tonight. Red team has another bad week, and it wasn’t even a question whether they’d lose the weigh in. Among them, David is the biggest loser, so he’s safe.

Kim tells the team that Phil (who’s second to Kae in terms of weight loss percentage) and Bryan are carrying the team. So basically she wants them to get rid of Amy, who hasn’t been carrying her weight anyway. She leaves them with the knowledge that she’ll be pissed off if they let it go to a tie.

Votes
David: Amy
Amy: Phil
Phil: Amy
Bryan: Phil

And it’s a tie. Wow, now that I wasn’t expecting. Dumb dumb dumb. They must be praying the team game is ending very soon. Since they won the weigh in, the blue team will decide who goes home. Pretty easy decision here. It would be monumentally stupid for the red team to get rid of Phil, so it works in the blue team’s favor to do so, and in the process they get rid of the biggest threat, both in terms of the team and in terms of the long-term individual game. As a team, they decided to vote out Phil. Whether at their own hands or due to a shift to an individual game, red team is done.

Phil’s down from his starting weight of 403 pounds to 295 pounds today for a total of 108 pounds.

The Biggest Loser 4 Episode 5

On The Biggest Loser 4 episode 4, the blue team lost following red team’s highway robbery immunity that allowed them to get nowhere but still be safe. After that, Allison revealed that The Biggest Loser campus was shutting down for a week. Except they didn’t reveal what that actually meant. Welcome to another live blog.

It means they’re going to Jamaica. Not worth the drama or a cliffhanger. We know already at least one of them doesn’t want to wear a bathing suit.

Jillian wants it to be known this is not a vacation. She’ll be as tough as usual.

Kim had to send Bryan to the doctor due to chest pain. To him, this is another reason why he should be losing weight.

Jillian’s unimpressed with the massive (and unhealthy) foods that are at the buffet, and it doesn’t appear like too many of the people she’s with have a concept of what’s good to eat.

Kim has her team workout in the pool. Bob decides to do yoga. Jillian’s back to her desert training.

Bryan runs on to the beach at the challenge. The doctor says he’s okay. Hollie and Isabeau sit out for the black team. Reward is a day at the spa. The challenge is a balancing act on rafts. Teams must pull themselves to shore without falling. Black team wins without any drama whatsoever.

Jillian and Bob told their teams not to dare drink a drop. Kim took a more reasonable but perhaps riskier approach and said they could drink if they wanted to do so, as they’re all adults and know what they’re there for. Even still, a couple drinks is pretty much irrelevant to whether they lose weight or not.

It’s time for the weigh in.

Black Team:
Isabeau: 264 pounds (-8)
Bill: 279 pounds (-6)
Jez: 302 pounds (-6)
Julie: 199 pounds (-4)
Jim: 307 pounds (-7)
Hollie: 228 pounds (-8)
Total: -39 pounds (2.41%)

Red Team:
David: 328 pounds (-9)
Bryan: 308 pounds (-11)
Amy: 268 pounds (-10)
Phil: 346 pounds (-12)
Total: -42 pounds (3.25%)

Blue Team:
Ryan: 331 pounds (-10)
Nicole: 252 pounds (-6)
Kae: 184 pounds (-7)
Neil: 365 pounds (-10)
Total: -33 pounds (2.83%)

Red team wins; black team loses. Hollie is the biggest loser on the black team and is safe this week. The girls are afraid of being picked off one by one. They’re trying to convince Jez to vote with them to take out one of the twins, an alliance that will be tough to beat if they last too long. I don’t think the girls have to worry about whether it’s a tie or not. If they vote as a block, I suspect the winning team will see the twins as just as much a threat, in terms of both longer term strategy and also their ability to lose weight.

Despite the trip to Jamaica, or perhaps because of it, everybody had a great week. David had a drink but didn’t go crazy, and in the end, it didn’t make a difference, as the red team still won the weigh in this week. Kae put up great numbers as usual.

Votes
Bill: Isabeau
Isabeau: Jim
Jim: Isabeau
Hollie: Jim
Julie: Jim

By a vote of 4-2, Jim has been eliminated.

The Biggest Loser 4 Episode 4

Last week, the red team finally squeaked out a victory, with the blue team losing and deciding to vote out team captain Jerry. I’ve decided to go ahead and start doing live blogs of this show.

The show starts off with another temptation, this time cupcakes for the trainers. One of them will give a team a 15 second advantage at the next challenge. It’s revealed the trainers will also be participating in the challenge. The trainers all reject the temptation. I’m not as impressed with this lesson as they want me to be. I get the concept of not eating cupcakes at every sitting, but the message that it’s not okay to eat them once in a while is irresponsible. That’s how people get cravings and fall off the wagon. Or get on the wagon. Whichever one’s the bad one. Granted, the people they’re working with have been excessively irresponsible for so long, so I could see where it’s argued it’s a good lesson.

After this, we get a Subway commercial. Of all the fast food choices, Subway’s definitely a good one, though.

Alison tells the teams the winner of the challenge will have such a big advantage at the next weigh-in she can’t even reveal it yet. The challenge is to race down the hill, capture a flag, and run back up the hill. Teams must bid how fast they think they can do it, and the lowest bidder must do it in the time they say. Some potential strategy can come into play here.

Red team bids 7 minutes. Black responds with 6 minutes. Blue team bids 5:55. Red team bids 5:54. Black team bids 5:30. Blue challenges black team to get the flag. Red team bids 5:29. Jillian convinces her team to bid 5:28, despite reluctance from the girls on her team. Red bids 5:27. Black team bids 5:25, the lowest bid.

Jez is strong the whole way. The girls are struggling all the while. Hollie falls, but Jillian helps her back up. They get to the flag in 2:25, giving them 3 minutes to get back up the hill. Jez makes it up the hill in time, but the rest of the team overbid by a few seconds.

So now it’s time for a bidding war between red team and blue team. Red bids 6:25. Blue bids 6:00. Red bids 5:55. Blue team tells them to go ahead.

Phil’s dominant as usual. Bryan’s right behind him. David looks like a lost cause early on. Amy wanted to quit but didn’t. They get down the hill with a little less than 4 minutes left on the clock. Phil gets back to the top with 32 seconds left, and the rest of the team shows up with 18 seconds left. Red team wins the challenge again. Blue team should have attempted to force the bid down a bit more.

After the loss, Bob gets his team away from the campus to 24 Hour Fitness for a spin class. He convinces Patty she’s worth the effort of losing the weight. The trainers then break out the goal shirts, in an effort to uplift their spirits and help them strive toward those goals, ranging from being a better husband to being a firefighter.

The last chance workout shows positive attitudes by some, though Amy whines about it as usual, as does Isabeau, who calls Jillian crazy. Isabeau seems as if she may have learned a lesson, however.

Alison reveals the advantage red team won at the weigh-in. They win immunity, so it doesn’t matter whether they lose the weigh-in or not.

Red Team:
Phil: 358 pounds (-5)
Amy: 278 pounds (-1)
David: 337 pounds (-1)
Bryan: 319 pounds (-2)
Total: -9 pounds (0.69%)

Black Team:
Hollie: 236 pounds (-3)
Jez: 308 pounds (-8)
Jim: 314 pounds (-11)
Isabeau: 272 pounds (-8)
Bill: 285 pounds (-13)
Julie: 203 pounds (-7)
Total: -50 pounds (3.00%)

Blue Team:
Neil: 375 pounds (-11)
Kae: 191 pounds (-6)
Nicole: 258 pounds (-4)
Patty: 255 pounds (-5)
Ryan: 341 pounds (-6)
Total: -32 pounds (2.20%)

Red team gets absolutely obliterated with a horrible week but skates by because they won the challenge. Not impressed by this immunity. Blue team goes to the elimination. Kae is the biggest loser on her team and is safe. Despite being the lightest person there, she’s sure proving to have a lot of determination. They tell Bob they’re willing to let it go to a tie and let the rest of the house decide. He says he forbids it, as it’s taking the easy way out.

Votes
Kae: Neil
Patty: Nicole
Neil: Patty
Nicole: Patty
Ryan: Patty

With three votes, Patty is eliminated. Patty’s down from 280 pounds at the start to 219 today.

Afterwards, Alison warns it’s a new game with new rules and like nothing they’ve ever seen before. The campus is shutting down for a week. She’ll reveal exactly what this means next week.

Stay tuned to dingoRUE for another live blog of The Biggest Loser 4 episode 5, which airs Tuesday at 8:30/7:30c on NBC.

The Biggest Loser Renewed

The Biggest Loser, which premiered in its 4th season up 9% in ratings on September 11th, has been renewed by NBC for season 5, reports Hollywood Reporter.

A couple of major changes are in store. First, taking a page out of The Amazing Race book, the show will feature teams of two, rather than individuals. Second, the show is scheduled to air in midseason, presumably either January or February, a break from the traditional fall showing, an indication that NBC may have a bit more faith in this show than they did previously.

“The fifth season pickup is a testament to the show’s inspiring stories, and the best part is that it also inspires viewers at home to lead healthier lives,” said Mark Koops, executive producer.

The Biggest Loser 4 Episode 2

In The Biggest Loser 4 Episode 1, we saw pretty much the most obvious outcome ever, with the person who started off as a dumb pick proving to be as bad as everyone thought, as Amber was eliminated after threatening to quit repeatedly.

We start off with the first weigh in for the black team.

Isabeau: 290 lbs (-8)
Julie: 216 lbs (-2)
Hollie: 244 lbs (-11)
Jez: 329 lbs (-16)
Jim: 350 lbs (-11)
Bill: 313 lbs (-21)
Total: -69 lbs (3.81%)

Jillian’s got her work cut out for her. By comparison, the red team lost 4.43%, and the blue team lost 5.81%. A couple of these people are just lucky to have not been picked because bootinig either Isabeau or moreso Julie would be completely justifiable.

Phil would like to lose the weight to be able to pass fire department tests. Julie wants to lose the weight to increase her odds of having another child. Amy is afraid of getting diabetes like others in her family. Patty doesn’t want to die young.

On the hike to the top of the hill, Neil has trouble with his knees. Bob advises him if he has a problem, he should turn back. He decides to just push through it.

More of the primitive training conditions in the desert. This workout consists of lugging logs around. Jillian looks forward to the air conditioned gym, as it will be like a walk in the park compared to working out in the 96 degree heat.

Brian grabs string cheese and Jell-O for his meal before a workout. Kim is unimpressed. She decides to make tacos out of turkey. Then it’s time for the pre-challenge workout, where Amy starts whining.

Next, it’s Hollie’s turn. During the workout on the beach, she falls and starts crying, but she gets what she’s working toward and gets up and finishes.

It’s climbing time. The next challenge is climbing stairs at a 10 story building (up and back down). The reward is immunity for one person. Neil is unable to compete due to his injury earlier. Ryan, also from the blue team, is unable to compete due to irregular blood levels. The red team must choose who to sit out, and they pick Lezlye. Kae gets off to an early lead for the blue team. Patty retains the lead. Bryan catches up a bit but is still behind. Phil takes a slight lead, but it’s neck and neck going into the home stretch. Phil inches out the win for the red team, beating out Gerry. Immunity is determined by who flips the correct switch at random. David wins immunity, though he probably wouldn’t need it.

Neil can’t stomach eating, but Bob emphasizes that the body needs food to lose weight.

Bob is thrilled with what he’s getting from his team and says they’ve pushed harder than anyone before. Kim is not so thrilled because her team, or at least the girls, keeps whining, so she’s going easier on them. She’s really impressed with the guys, but she lets the girls know she’s sick of them. Lezlye starts mocking her, and Amy just walks out.

Amy makes an alliance with Lezlye because she thinks it will help her stick around longer. I got a better way: work harder.

The black team makes their way back into the house in time for the weigh in. Upon walking into the weigh in, the blue and red teams are greeted by the black team waiting for them, ready for battle. Even Bob and Kim weren’t expecting the twist.

Blue Team:
Gerry: 256 lbs (-10)
Nicole: 265 lbs (-6)
Patty: 265 lbs (-2)
Ryan: 349 lbs (-10)
Kae: 200 lbs (-5)
Neil: 389 lbs (-10)
Total: -43 lbs (2.43%)

Red Team:
Bryan: 325 lbs (-6)
Amy: 285 lbs (-2)
Lezlye: 243 lbs (-3)
David: 344 lbs (-4)
Phil: 372 lbs (-5)
Total: -20 lbs (1.26%)

Black Team:
Hollie: 242 lbs (-2)
Isabeau: 285 lbs (-5)
Jez: 320 lbs (-9)
Julie: 213 lbs (-3)
Bill: 301 lbs (-12)
Jim: 334 lbs (-16)
Total: 47 lbs (2.70%)

With no help from the women on the team, the black team wins the weigh in. The red team, meanwhile, as a whole, did poorly this week, and they have lost the weigh in again. At just 6 pounds, Bryan is the biggest loser on the red team, so he is safe, as is David with immunity. Amy tries to talk David into believing Phil’s too big a threat to keep around. She then realizes he’s not getting rid of Phil, so she drops the alliance and works on her own behalf.

Phil: Lezlye
Lezlye: Phil
Amy: Phil
David: Lezlye
Bryan: Lezlye

By a vote of 3-2, Lezlye has been eliminated. Today, Lezlye weighs 200 pounds, down 55 pounds from her starting weight of 255 pounds.

Stay tuned to dingoRUE for another recap of The Biggest Loser 4 episode 3, which airs Tuesday at 8/7c on NBC.

The Biggest Loser 4 Episode 1

I know I’m late with this, but I’ve got excuses. I think. Anyway, it’s time for season 4 of Biggest Loser. I’ve seen season 1 and bits and pieces of the other two, but it’s apparent there’s a big following already established here at this site, so I figured I’d get back into it and start recapping it. As reported previously, the big change this year is that Caroline Rhea has been replaced by Alison Sweeney, a younger, less heavier model. I liked Caroline Rhea, but I never did think she fit in too well with this show considering its theme. This season, there’s also a third team, the black team, led by Jillian Michaels, who returns after her hiatus last year. Bob Harper and Kim Lyons will be returning as well.

We start off in the desert with a lot of hills and sand and heat. Bob and Kim are flying overhead preparing to jump out of a plane. The weight loss starts here. It’s a race to get to them. The first person to catch Bob is the captain of the blue team; the first person to catch Kim is the captain of the red team. The captains will pick the teams, but they can only pick 5 each. The show pretends the other 6 will be going home, but we know better.

Gerry, at age 62 and the oldest contestant ever on Biggest Loser, was the first person to reach Bob. He doesn’t seem quite as out of shape as some of these people, even if he is a lot older. Ex-college football player Phil, 27, was the first person to reach Kim. Amber, 30, finished quite a ways behind everyone else, and once they realized she still hadn’t finished, everybody went out to greet and support her.

Blue Team:
Gerry, 62: 297 lbs
Kae, 27: 225 lbs
Neil, 25: 421 lbs
Patty, 34: 280 lbs
Nicole, 26: 279 lbs
Ryan, 29: 374 lbs
_____
1,876 lbs total

Red Team:
Phil, 27: 403 lbs
Bryan, 29: 346 lbs
Amber, 30: 295 lbs
Amy, 28: 297 lbs
David, 31: 368 lbs
Lezlye, 34: 255 lbs
_____
1,964 lbs total

So that leaves us with a black team of:
Bill, 40: 334 lbs
Hollie, 28: 255 lbs
Isabeau, 21: 298 lbs
Jez, 24: 345 lbs
Jim, 40: 361 lbs
Julie, 34: 218 lbs
_____
1,811 lbs total

As the bus is leaving, it passes a motorcycle going the other way. Now it’s time to break the news to the people and end their agony of being rejected, as Jillian’s back. She will train the black team in secret for a week and a half before they enter the game.

After the weigh in, we go back to Jillian in the desert, and she’s as hardcore as ever. Nothing like working out in the heat of a desert. Pretty primitive workout environment, utilizing tires and sandbags, but it’ll definitely get results. Isabeau falls apart on the hill, which Jillian is displeased with, but she doesn’t quit.

Bob has his first workout in the gym. Everybody says it’s tough, but there are no clear slipups. Kim has her team working out in the yard. Amber, who had so much trouble with the first task, breaks down crying and says she doesn’t want to be there any more. She’s lucky she got a sweet trainer like Kim. If she got Jillian, she would have gotten smacked upside the head. Kim works with Amber to get her to finish.

Next, it’s time to tackle the diet. Bob suggests gum instead of candy bars and emphasizes protein at every meal. Kim’s philosophy is about balance, with carbs, protein, and fat at every meal and snack. They then blindfold their teams and lead them into a room with the lights off. As the lights go on, they reveal on tables what everybody eats in a week, a shocking reality check to all the contestants.

Before the next challenge, everybody must get the amount of luggage across the finish line that equals the weight they hope to lose. Seems like a pretty arbitrary way to pick a task, as anybody who shoots high is gonna have a lot to carry. Ah, but there’s a catch. The luggage will be onboard a plane, which weighs 21 tons, and the players must drag it after loading their luggage. As a reward, letters from home will be waiting at the finish line for the winning team. Blue team comes up with a good strategy of having a couple of the players who are likely to run/carry slower just load the plane. Red team catches on to this but not before giving the blue team a lead. Red team, however, comes up with a much better strategy for towing the plane. Phil lines up like the anchor in tug-of-war, while two of the women get down by the wheels and turn the wheels. Red team wins by a good margin.

The first weigh in:

Red Team:
Bryan: 331 lbs (-15)
Lezlye: 246 lbs (-9)
Amy: 287 lbs (-10)
David: 348 lbs (-20)
Amber: 288 lbs (-7)
Phil: 377 lbs (-26)
Total: -87 lbs (4.43%)

Blue Team:
Patty: 267 lbs (-13)
Ryan: 359 lbs (-15)
Nicole: 271 lbs (-8)
Neil: 399 lbs (-22)
Kae: 205 (-20)
Gerry: 266 lbs (-31)
Total: -109 lbs (5.81%)

Awesome job by Kae. Down 9%, easily doubling, if not tripling the percentage of most others. Being that she is the smallest, if she keeps this up, though, she won’t last very long. With her numbers, it became pretty obvious the blue team would win. But to make it a complete blowout, Gerry steps up there and puts up over a 10% loss, and his 31 pound weight loss is a new record. As the smallest guy, he faces the same potential early elimination.

Phil, with a 26 pound (6.5%) weight loss, is the biggest loser for the red team, so he’s safe. Amber’s boot’s a pretty safe prediction here. With that said, the whole group immediately turns on her for lack of drive and repeated talk of quitting. Of course, regardless of what she may have done or not done, it ultimately came down to the other team doing so ridiculously well that they weren’t winning whether she lost another few more pounds or not.

Lezlye: Amber
Amber: Lezlye
Amy: Amber
David: Amber
Phil: Amber

As expected, Amber has been eliminated. Since that time, Amber has continued on the right path, and she has lost a total of 65 pounds and is now down from a size 28 to a size 18. Her goal by the finale is to be a size 10.
