The Biggest Loser Season 12 Episode 11

Posted by Shane on Tuesday, November 29, 2011 at 8:05 pm

For the second week in a row, the person who went home requested it, as Ramon was eliminated in The Biggest Loser Season 12 Episode 10.

Everybody suits up for the challenge wearing all the weight they used to weigh. As they dash to each station, they will be able to remove the weight they lost for each week. Reward is a 1 pound advantage. Antone takes off in the lead. As the person who was shedding the most pounds the fastest, John, who nobody wants to win, closes the gap with Antone and is on his heels before eventually passing him and overtaking the lead as they round the turn heading into week 7. They are neck and neck as they come around the final turn, and John extends his lead to win the challenge and the advantage. Sunny places third, followed by Becky and Vinny.

They’ve now made it to makeover week. In addition, they will receive $5,000 each plus Progresso Soup for a year.

They start off with a shopping trip through Beverly Hills. Vinny’s told to ditch the overalls. John has to add some color other than black or blue to his wardrobe. The ladies dress not like old women.

Then it’s off to the hair stylist for apparently their first haircuts in 3 months with the men getting shaved for a change.

Once made over, they round out their Hollywood experience with a walk on the red carpet.

No longer too big for her wedding ring, Becky is once again able to wear it.

After their makeovers are done, they head into the gyms for their final last chance workout. Win or lose, this is their last night there until the marathon.

Sunny: 201 pounds (-1, 0.50%) - Bob wants to know what she’s been doing this week
Antone: 334 pounds (-8, 2.42%)
John: 296 pounds (-9, -1, 3.28%)
Vinny: 314 pounds (-10, 3.09%)
Becky: 172 pounds (-5, 2.82%)

Antone and Sunny have fallen below the yellow line. After the week she had, Sunny should be the one going home, but Antone’s the bigger threat.

Votes
Becky: Sunny
John: Sunny

With 2 votes, Sunny is not The Biggest Loser. From her starting weight of 277 pounds, Sunny is down 96 pounds to 181 today.

The Biggest Loser Season 12 Episode 10

Posted by Shane on Tuesday, November 22, 2011 at 8:28 pm

After falling below the yellow line with Becky in The Biggest Loser Season 12 Episode 9, Bonnie asked to be voted out.

The average American eats over 4500 calories on Thanksgiving. This week’s Thanksgiving temptation offers $500 per pound lost, a home gym, and a 3 pound advantage. Under each dish is a number. The person with the lowest number picks first. One person could conceivably end up with all three prizes. Sunny is the only one who hesitates, though everybody ends up eating. John and Vinny only take one shot. Sunny doesn’t have enough time to eat more than one dish. Becky’s 96 is not impressive, but her 38 is better. Sunny gets 85. Antone gets 81 and improves it to 46. John gets 90, not to be confused with 06. Ramon’s 79 is enough for third, and his first number of 52 is an even better third. Vinny gets a 10.

As the winner, Vinny chooses the 3 pound advantage, which this week is probably good enough to keep him immune. Becky picks the home gym. That leaves Antone with the $500 per pound lost. Three prizes for three black team members.

Bob says to mark his words. John will gain everything back because he’s never satisfied.

The trainers treat the contestants to a Thanksgiving dinner Biggest Loser style. All the taste with fewer of the calories and less fat. Everybody tells stories of home, even Bob, who talks about his sister having struggled with weight her whole life.

They will race 1 mile on Jacob’s ladder. Again they have a choice. 6 months of The Biggest Loser meal plan, plus 6 months to give away to an eliminated contestant. $2500 to give and $2500 to keep. Lastly, there is a 1 pound advantage to keep and a 1 pound disadvantage to give away. Ramon’s leading with John behind. John then takes the lead. Sunny is in third. After 40 minutes, Sunny takes second place about 100 feet behind John, but it doesn’t look like his lead that we later find out is nearly 10 minutes can be eliminated. An hour and a half of climbing passes, and John wins the challenge. Sunny places second, followed by Ramon.

John takes the 1 pound advantage, the last thing everybody else wanted. Sunny picks the meal plan and gives Bonnie the meal plan as well. Ramon takes the $2500 and gives a matching amount to Vinny. That leaves everybody with a prize this week.’

Vinny has an offer that’s the least painless way to go: take 1 of his 3 pounds away. If John doesn’t do that, everybody will turn on him. Too late. Before the weigh in, he makes his choice: Sunny. She tries to paint it as if this makes him a bad person. How dare he take a pound away from somebody (which he must do according to the rules of the game)?

John: 305 pounds (-5, -1, 1.94%) - saying his goodbyes already
Antone: 331 pounds (-8, 2.36%) - $4000 richer
Vinny: 324 pounds (-11, -3, 4.18%) - over 100 pounds lost
Becky: 177 pounds (-5, 2.75%)
Ramon: 268 pounds (-5, 1.83%)
Sunny: 202 pounds (-5, -1, 1.93%)

The 1 pound advantage/disadvantage proves to be huge, saving John and putting Sunny in danger. Sunny again complains about how it’s Thanksgiving week and John should just give her a free pass at the expense of his own time on the ranch. Hate the game if you want, but this is not John’s fault.

Votes
Vinny: Sunny
Becky: Ramon
John: Sunny
Antone: Ramon

Antone thinks that John should have voted to keep Sunny because he put her in danger. Really? You people all openly want him gone. I don’t get why he should do your bidding to keep your friends around to vote him out next week.

In the event of a tie, the person with the lowest percentage of weight loss goes home. With 2 votes, Ramon has been eliminated. In addition to his 110 pound weight loss from his starting weight of 355 pounds, he has also chopped off the horrible long hair and facial hair.

The Biggest Loser Season 12 Episode 9

Posted by Shane on Tuesday, November 15, 2011 at 8:28 pm

Ending a week of twists, everybody jumped at the first chance to get rid of Joe in The Biggest Loser Season 12 Episode 8.

This week they will be competing in a pentathalon. First place prize is immunity; last place penalty is a 1 pound disadvantage. But first they’re going to singles.

Their first task is to rank the others based on how much they think they deserve to win the show. Vinny votes for his friends. Bonnie votes for the teachers. Ramon puts his biggest competition at the bottom. Sunny puts them in alphabetical order. John bases it on weight loss. Antone puts the biggest threats at the bottom.

The second event of five for the week is to run back and forth across a tennis court and place their covers over their opponents’ pegs. Once their three pegs are covered, they’re out. Antone and Sunny eliminate Ramon. Becky and Vinny get rid of John. Antone and John take out Vinny. Bonnie’s eliminated next. Sunny, who has been largely ignored so far, eliminates Antone. Then she finishes off Becky to win. Points are awarded based on the order they finished.

Sunny: 7
Becky: 6
Antone: 5
Bonnie: 4
Vinny: 3
John: 2
Ramon: 1

Dolvett finds himself struggling to push John, who doesn’t trust him, but it looks like his efforts are working as a sweaty John runs 9 miles an hour for 30 seconds.

Event number three is a trivia challenge.

What food group is the body’s best source of energy?
Grains and starches. Ex-NFL player Antone, who ate a lot of potatoes when he was training, is correct.

Which cheese has the least (fewest?) calories?
Mozzarella. Antone, John, Vinny, and Ramon all score a point.

Which of the following fruit contains the most sugar?
Grapes. Becky and Antone score a point.

How many calories must you cut from your daily intake to lose 1 pound a week?
500 calories. It’s simple math. 3500 divided by 7. Speaking of, math teacher Becky is the only person wrong.

2 tsp of sugar and 2 tsp of cream daily could add how much weight to the average person in a year?
10 pounds. That’s why I opt for skim milk and Equal. Becky, Vinny, and Antone are correct.

Which of the following foods has the most calories?
Onions. Twice as much as the other vegetables (mushrooms, asparagus, and broccoli). Antone is correct again.

How many calories can you save by using 4 oz. of lean ground turkey instead of 4 oz. of ground beef?
150 calories. Bonnie is correct, and Antone’s streak comes to an end.

After two events have been scored, the leaderboard is reshuffled. Antone’s strong trivia performance pushes him to the top, while Ramon remains at the bottom.

Antone: 11
Becky: 9
Sunny: 8
Bonnie: 7
Vinny: 7
John: 4
Ramon: 4

The fourth event involves hopping on a float and pulling themselves across a pool using ropes. Ramon finishes in 2:29. John completes it in 2:01 to take the lead. Vinny finishes in 2:08. Bonnie falls immediately after going 2.1 meters. Sunny takes the lead with a time of 1:24. Becky finishes in 2:10. Antone finishes in 2:09, making the difference between third and fifth just 2 seconds.

Antone retains the lead with Sunny bouncing back, while Ramon remains on the bottom.

Antone: 15
Sunny: 15
Becky: 12
Vinny: 12
John: 10
Bonnie: 8
Ramon: 6

Olympian Apolo Ohno joins them for the final event, a 1 mile run. Last place Ramon looks like he may be able to make a dent here. John’s also making a run for it. In third place, Sunny looks competitive enough that she should be able to overtake the leaderboard. On the other end of the scale is Bonnie, who will drop to last. Ramon finishes in a time of 9:10. John completes the course in 10:17. Sunny finishes in 11:10. Antone picks up the pace at the end to finish in 11:42, with Becky right behind him in 11:45. Vinny places sixth with a time of 14:42. Bonnie finishes in last place with a time of 26:28.

Sunny: 20
Antone: 19
John: 16
Becky: 15
Vinny: 14
Ramon: 13
Bonnie: 9

With four events tallied, there’s still the matter of the vote, which could potentially shake things up. Bonnie and Ramon are out of the running for the win, while Sunny and Antone will not lose. Unlike the other events, they will be scored based on the votes, from 0-7. Antone and Becky received votes from everybody. Sunny gets 5 votes. Bonnie, Ramon, and Vinny receive 4. John gets just 1, which does not bode well for his potential support down the road at the ranch. Whether they consider him a threat, not an ally, or some combination, he’s toast if he falls below the yellow line.

Antone: 26
Sunny: 25
Becky: 22
Vinny: 18
John: 17
Ramon: 17
Bonnie: 13

Antone wins the pentathalon and immunity. Sunny’s alphabetical order strategy seems to have backfired. I’ve seen that before. Bonnie receives a 1 pound disadvantage.

Antone: 339 pounds (-9, 2.59%) - over 100 pounds lost
Bonnie: 208 pounds (-5, +1, 1.88%)
John: 310 pounds (-9, 2.82%)
Vinny: 335 pounds (-10, 2.90%)
Sunny: 207 pounds (-9, 4.17%)
Becky: 182 pounds (-4, 2.15%)
Ramon: 273 pounds (-7, 2.50%)

For the first time this season, the yellow line is in play. The two remaining older team members, Bonnie and Becky, have fallen below the yellow line. Bonnie says she’s ready to go home, and she wants to see one of the three teachers win, one of whom is Becky.

Per her request, with 3 votes, Bonnie is not The Biggest Loser. From her starting weight of 254 pounds, Bonnie is down to 186 pounds today for a total of 68 pounds lost.

The Biggest Loser Season 12 Episode 8

Posted by Shane on Tuesday, November 8, 2011 at 7:45 pm

After everybody split into new teams, Jessica was voted out in The Biggest Loser Season 12 Episode 7. This won’t end well, with her showmance still on campus.

Now we have to listen to Ramon complain (again). I hope this doesn’t go on for long. Vinny happily pokes him with a stick to stir the pot.

Each team will have one person represent them on the scale, and that person will be picked by their trainer.

Sunny says she’s getting tired, since they’re now in their eighth week.

Dolvett thinks Bonnie dodged a huge bullet. She’s not supposed to still be here.

Becky blames her father and his lack of acceptance of her for her weight gain, though she acknowledges he’s not the one who put the food in her mouth.

Today’s challenge is a cooking challenge that will be judged by last season’s winner Olivia and the author of The Biggest Loser cookbooks. The winning team’s recipe will be published in the new book, and they will also receive a 1 pound advantage, particularly important since only 1 weight will count for each team. They get 5 minutes to decide what they are cooking, and then they will have 30 minutes to cook, with the assistance of their trainers.

The red team cooks London Bridge, which I guess is supposed to be a clever play on words of some sort. Their dish is London broil. It’s rare. Rare enough that Olivia’s making faces. They also cook sweet potatoes and asparagus. The dish consists of 440 calories, 9 grams of fat, and very little sodium. 8% fat seems pretty light.

Blue team has cooked fajitas. Hardly sounds like a healthy dish, but they seem to have pulled it off. It is 300 calories and 11 grams of fat.

Black team makes pork and cole slaw. It looks like plenty of food on that plate, but it weighs in at only 210 calories. That low calorie account seems to be the thing that clinches the victory for them, as the black team wins the challenge. In addition to their prize, they get a lunch date with Olivia, who brings them gifts from home.

Dr. H is back with better news this time. But first, a lesson. Obese people want food more, but they get less pleasure from it, so they have to eat more to get the same pleasure as a lean person does. Now the good news: Ramon’s diabetes is gone.

After a particularly bad day of complaining when Jessica left, Ramon claims he’s over it, but he’s not.

At the weigh in, the trainers must make their picks. Bob chooses Becky for the black team, Anna picks Joe for the blue team, and Dolvett goes with John for the red team.

Bonnie: 213 pounds (-8, 3.62%)
John: 319 pounds (-10, 3.04%)
Red Total: 532 pounds (-18, 3.27%)

Dolvett didn’t make the right choice, but his second option was not bad either.

Antone: 348 pounds (-5, 1.42%)
Vinny: 345 pounds (-10, 2.82%)
Becky: 186 pounds (-6, -1, 3.65%)
Black Total: 878 pounds (-22, 2.44%)

Opting for the person with less to lose who could be safe with a smaller number, Bob made the right choice, though Vinny’s number would have been sufficient as well (with the 1 pound advantage).

Sunny: 216 pounds (-2, 0.92%)
Ramon: 280 pounds (-6, 2.10%)
Joe: 269 pounds (-2, 0.74%)

John dodges a bullet, as he would have been instantly eliminated had his team lost. Both as a group and with the twist, the blue team failed to put up the numbers. As the person with the highest percentage of weight loss on the losing team, Ramon is safe. Before we get to the vote, we get to listen to Ramon whine some more about how he doesn’t like his team. I get it, dude. Joe’s the obvious threat here.

Votes
Vinny: Joe
Bonnie: Joe
Antone: Joe

With 3 votes, Joe is not The Biggest Loser, surprised by the gameplay from his two friends. From his starting weight of 348 pounds, Joe is down to 230 pounds today. He’s even able to ride the rollercoaster (at Dollywood, which is apparently a real place) with his daughter.

The Biggest Loser Season 12 Episode 7

Posted by Shane on Tuesday, November 1, 2011 at 7:00 pm

After a disappointing performance by everybody in The Biggest Loser Season 12 Episode 6, the black team turned on one of their own, joining the rest of the house in voting out Jennifer.

Alison tells them to bring the shirts they had on day 1 so they can go on a trip down memory lane.

The black team talks about how they have stuck together throughout. Didn’t you just get done voting out Jennifer when you didn’t have to do so?

Once again, they line up according to age, and again they are split into three groups by age: the three youngest, three oldest, and three in the middle. Each group will be given three dishes they picked as their favorite dishes. The person who guesses closest the total number of calories of all three dishes gets to pick their trainer. The person who places second will choose from the remaining two trainers. When it’s over, the teams will be made up of one player from each group, a chopping that nobody is happy about.

The young team starts off with a salad (with plenty of bread and dressing, thereby negating any chance it may have to be healthy), a dozen tacos with a chaser of two burritos, and a country breakfast with some chocolate gravy. Jessica guesses 6200 calories, Vinny says 9000, and Ramon goes with 2570 (probably enough for one of those meals). Salad: 2249, tacos: 3100, country breakfast: 1747. Grand total: 7096 calories. Jessica chooses Dolvett, and Vinny picks Bob, leaving Ramon whining about how he doesn’t even want to speak to Anna.

The middle group goes next. Their dishes include a burger and fries, three double cheeseburgers, and some Mexican food. Antone guesses 7000, Sunny goes with 6500, and John says 5720. Burger and fries: 2165, double cheeseburgers: 2512, Mexican: 4162. Grand total: 8839 calories. With two big boys in the group, it turns out that Sunny’s meal is the one that blows everyone out of the water. Antone picks Bob, and Sunny switches to Anna.

The older group goes last. They chose a large pizza, veal cutlets and baked macaroni & cheese, and an Italian sampler. Joe guesses 8580, Becky says 6850, and Bonnie opts for 9114. Pizza: 2640 calories, veal and macaroni: 1793, Italian: 2975. Grand total: 7408 calories. Becky is the first to move on from her original trainer when given the choice, as she picks Bob. Joe chooses Anna, who Bonnie is happy to be rid of. Tired of her whining, too.

Black Team: Vinny, Antone, Becky
Blue Team: Ramon, Sunny, Joe
Red Team: Jessica, John, Bonnie

So of course the first thing out of Ramon’s mouth is that he doesn’t like Anna’s accurate comments about how his showmance with Jessica is a distraction. Likewise, Joe walks into this with a bit of a chip on his shoulder, and Anna isn’t helping matters any by telling him to be a man and get tough. The boys also hate tennis. At least Sunny seems to be onboard. After a workout and a chat about the obstacles Anna overcame growing up in the Soviet Union, they decide they will work as a team, which they would be silly not to do.

John doesn’t like change. But that’s what you’re on the ranch for, no?

Antone may have gotten what he wanted, but he’s distracted because his teammates are all gone.

Alison greets them with some slip and slides. They must unscramble the blocks they find at the end of the slide to spell out their prize. After grabbing their puzzle pieces, they’ll have to run back up and return it to their teams. The boys and Becky don’t have any trouble with the slides, but Jessica, Sunny, and Bonnie just creep along. Red team wants to go for whatever the dollar sign offers. Black team is going for the 3 pound advantage. Blue team is under the impression that they can win immunity, but that’s not how I’m interpreting it. Instead, they win immunity for one. After rock, paper, scissors, Joe wins immunity.

They aren’t voting off one of their own. Instead, the other two teams will be casting the deciding votes.

Bonnie: 221 pounds (-7, 3.07%)
Jessica: 201 pounds (-8, 3.83%)
John: 329 pounds (-15, 4.36%)
Red Total: 751 pounds (-30, 3.84%)

Vinny: 355 pounds (-12, 3.27%)
Becky: 192 pounds (-11, 5.42%)
Antone: 353 pounds (-16, 4.34%)
Black Total: 900 pounds (-39, 4.15%)

Sunny: 218 pounds (-9, 3.96%)
Ramon: 286 pounds (-16, 5.30%)
Joe: 271 pounds (-15, 5.24%)
Blue Total: 775 pounds (-40, 4.91%)

In spite of the rocky start, the blue team wins the weigh in. For the first time this season, Bob’s team did not win, but they did place second, leaving the red team at the bottom. As the person with the highest percentage of weight loss on the losing team, John is safe. That means it’s between Jessica and Bonnie. The former black team should be able to control the vote, although I thought that last week, too. Ramon is hopeful that the current blue team will control the vote and keep his showmance alive.

Votes
Ramon: Bonnie
Becky: Jessica
Vinny: Bonnie
Antone: Jessica
Sunny: Jessica
Joe: Jessica

With 4 votes, Jessica is not The Biggest Loser. From her starting weight of 254 pounds, Jessica is down to 185 pounds today and has lost 12 dress sizes to size 10. She looks to be a big threat for that marathon prize of a place in the finals.

The Biggest Loser Season 12 Episode 6

Posted by Shane on Tuesday, October 25, 2011 at 7:04 pm

After the red team fell below the yellow line in The Biggest Loser Season 12 Episode 5, Courtney was eliminated.

It’s Halloween at The Biggest Loser. Minus the begging strangers for candy.

Every year, the average American spends $44 on Halloween candy. There are 20 million pounds of candy year sold annually. Really? Who likes this stuff? Additionally, the average American eats 24 pounds of candy a year.

Speaking of candy, it’s time for temptation. Each pound of candy is a 1 pound advantage. Everybody will weigh in together. It’s all for one week. All they have to do is lose 100 pounds, or 10 pounds per person. If they do, everybody will be safe for one more week. To get a head start, they can eat up to 10 pounds of candy. 1 pound of candy each seems like a fair trade to me.

Because everybody’s working together this week, that allows the trainers to train whoever they want. Still, Bob has a concern: keep everybody safe so his dominant team doesn’t run the risk of being picked off.

Jen’s distracted by not being able to workout with Bob. I get a feeling you won’t be doing that when you get home either.

Showmance is brewing in the house between Ramon and Jessica. I don’t think I’ve seen this before on this show. Generally they just get together after the fact. Anna’s worried this will serve as a distraction.

Inside the maze filled with hundreds of apples, they will have to gather 150 pounds of apples within 10 minutes to receive a 5 pound advantage on the scale. For a 10 pound advantage, they will have to gather 200 pounds of apples. The trick: they must be out of the maze by the time the 10 minutes expires, or they will lose the advantage and receive a 5 pound disadvantage. So the question becomes: who is The Mole?

After 3 minutes, they’re at 30 pounds, nowhere near the pace they need to be. They hit 75. Then 100. Seems they’re figuring things out. But whatever happens, Antone’s not going in the graveyard. They hit 150 pounds with 2 minutes left. With 50 seconds left, they feel they can make it, so they head back in for another 12 pounds. With 1 second to spare and refusing to drop any apples, they make their narrow escape. The final total is well over 200 pounds of apples, giving them a 10 pound advantage, which knocks their goal down to 90 pounds.

This week, Bonnie has stopped whining because she decided she likes Bob.

In spite of playing a trick on Bob to the contrary, they didn’t eat any of the candy. Based on the trade off of 1 pound for 1 pound, I can’t say I agree. 1 candy bar a day won’t hurt you, particularly when you’re in the gym for 6 hours a day and quite likely struggling to eat enough calories each day anyway.

Bob has Jessica give Antone a piggyback ride. That was unexpected.

At the weigh in, their goal is 90 pounds of weight loss.

John: 344 pounds (-10, 2.82%) - over 100 pounds lost in 6 weeks, tying the record
Antone: 369 pounds (-8, 2.12%)
Joe: 286 pounds (-8, 2.72%)
Sunny: 232 pounds (+5, 2.20%)
Jennifer: 270 pounds (-4, 1.46%)
Bonnie: 228 pounds (-1, 0.44%)
Becky: 203 pounds (-1, 0.49%)
Vinny: 367 pounds (-5, 1.34%)
Jessica: 209 pounds (-4, 1.88%)
Ramon: 302 pounds (-2, 0.66%)

After a bloodbath, they fall short of their goal of 90 pounds by 68. Anna warns the lovebirds about getting distracted, but they are not alone. As The Biggest Loser of the week, John is the only person safe from elimination. Never having been to the elimination room, the black team holds half of the votes and should be able to make the end decision. The only way something could go wrong for them is if the red and blue teams unite to vote out Sunny.

Vinny uses this opportunity to pick a fight with Jennifer because he doesn’t like her. His excuse: she didn’t say something when Dolvett told them to (she did). Then he storms out of the room. Put a little more effort into your feuds if you wish to create them. This is just stupid. The potential problem for her is that her team doesn’t like her either, so are they dumb enough to vote her out or let her get voted out by not voting as a block?

Votes
Vinny: Jennifer
Jessica: Jennifer
Ramon: Jennifer
Jennifer: Ramon
John: Ramon
Joe: Jennifer
Antone: Jennifer
Sunny: Jennifer

With 6 votes, Jennifer is not The Biggest Loser. Their first time in the elimination room proves the black team’s not the brightest group. From her starting weight of 330 pounds, Jennifer has lost 102 pounds to 228 pounds today.

And I just realized The X Factor is on tonight. What the hell, Fox?

The Biggest Loser Season 12 Episode 5

Posted by Shane on Tuesday, October 18, 2011 at 7:05 pm

As the blue team fell below the line again in The Biggest Loser 12 Episode 4, Bonnie case the sole vote to eliminate Mike.

In other news, I see that X Factor is on again tonight. C’mon, Fox. How do you expect this show to gain any traction when you can’t pick a schedule? MLB’s on when X Factor is supposed to be on (and my Tivo tapes the wrong thing). X Factor’s on when MLB is supposed to be on (and my Tivo doesn’t tape anything). I don’t know. Maybe X Factor’s not really on right now, but I don’t care enough to check. Sunday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, sometimes an hour, sometimes two, sometimes 90 minutes. I await your 38 minute Friday night special showing.

One person will get to go home this week. The trip home comes with immunity, making the prize actually worthwhile. But there’s a catch. That person’s weight will be the only weight to count for the whole team. In addition, the trainer will go with them, leaving the team to fend for themselves. Playing with fire there.

The challenge is dumb luck. By order of weight loss percentage, they will put their name on a board. Then a chip is released from the top of the Plinko board, and whoever’s name it hits is the winner, for lack of a better term. John hopes to avoid the prize, as he realizes the winner may end up losing. Joe doesn’t want to win it either. Sunny, however, hopes to win. Vinny and Bonnie do as well. Sunny wins. As the person with the lowest percentage of weight loss on her team so far, this is probably not good news for them, although the good thing is that she’s still among the top six with her four team members (only Ramon is up there with them). Bob warns her this is not a vacation.

With that in mind, he hopes to beat her down at the gym. She falls off the treadmill. Good. He wanted her on the ground anyway. Having four other people there with you at least gives you somewhere to hide. Nowhere to hide this week. During their time at the gym, she remembers thinking she was being laughed at by people in her exercise class.

Rather than going to the donut shop with her son when she’s driving him to school in the morning, she has a different idea. Time for a Subway commercial.

The challenge is to run through a string maze with glasses and put the remaining liquid in the cylinder on the other side. The blue team’s goal line is half as high since they have half the players. Every person on the winning team will be able to send one person to The Biggest Loser Resort at Fitness Ridge.

In addition to the challenge, we get a reminder of the dangers of soda. The glasses they carry are 20 ounces and are filled with orange soda containing the equivalent of 17 teaspoons of sugar. Joe says he drank 8-10 cans of soda a day. 1200-1500 calories right there, not too far shy of the total amount he actually needs. If he were to drink water or at least diet soda instead, he could cut out a large chunk of calories and not miss it.

We already know the blue team’s going to place last, as Bonnie provides some comic relief even to herself. After she collapses, the comedy turns to drama (and of course a commercial break), but she’s fine. Red team starts off with a bit of a lead and keeps it to finally win a challenge. Ramon will send his sister to the resort. Courtney will as well.

Sunny’s family brings her to dinner at a BBQ restaurant. Bob’s going to have to figure out how to order as healthy as possible. Sunny learns a lesson here. You can’t eat BBQ every night. Oh. Then they make Bob ride a bull and put on a cowboy hat.

Earlier in the season, Sunny was complaining that she didn’t fit in with the team. Now it’s Jennifer’s turn.

Then we go to Dolvett. He doesn’t want his team to laugh. Ever apparently.

Over on the blue team, Bonnie’s getting tired of Anna. Feel free to leave then.

Bob grew up on a farm in Tennessee, where Miley Cyrus and all the Montanas are from. Last chance workout will incorporate that farm life, complete with 110 degree weather (but it’s a dry heat).

At the weigh in, the only number that really matters is Sunny’s. Oh, and Bonnie hates Anna because being pushed makes her angry. Bob supports his fellow trainer because she’s right.

Vinny: 372 pounds (-10, 2.62%)
Jessica: 213 pounds (-6, 2.74%)
Ramon: 304 pounds (-7, 2.25%)
Courtney: 231 pounds (-6, 2.53%)
Red Total: 1120 pounds (-29, 2.52%)

Bonnie: 229 pounds (-4, 1.72%)
Becky: 204 pounds (-8, 3.77%)
Blue Total: 433 pounds (-12, 2.70%)

John: 354 pounds (-12, 3.28%)
Jennifer: 274 pounds (-8, 2.84%)
Joe: 294 pounds (-7, 2.33%)
Antone: 377 pounds (-4, 1.05%)
Sunny: 227 pounds (-14, 5.81%)
Black Total: 1526 pounds (-45, 2.86%)

Following Sunny’s massive weight loss (that puts her in second place for the season), both as a team and with the twist, the black team wins their fourth weigh in straight. That puts the red team in danger. They were all pretty even, but Jessica, who would have been the easiest to eliminate, is narrowly granted immunity from tonight’s vote. The logical move here is the elimination of Courtney. Vinny seems the most willing to go home, albeit the least ready physically.

Votes
Jessica: Courtney
Courtney: Vinny
Vinny (following an annoying rant that just keeps going): Courtney
Ramon: Courtney

With 3 votes, Courtney is not The Biggest Loser. From her starting weight of 270 pounds, she is down 65 pounds to 205 today. She wants to be able to pay it forward with her sister.

The Biggest Loser 12 Episode 4

Posted by Shane on Tuesday, October 11, 2011 at 7:07 pm

Patrick asked to be sent home in The Biggest Loser Season 12 Episode 3 and got his wish.

Keeping with the age theme, the middle group gets to meet and workout with Hannah from last season, the youngest group meets Adam from season 10, and the oldest group meets Marci from last season.

Courtney grew up playing high school sports but eventually gave up due to her weight. Dolvett wants to remind her how much she loves sports. His philosophy is that, just like in life, something may get in the way, but you have to go around it.

The challenge is to pass a box through snow, wind, and rain. In 100 degree heat, I’d think snow, rain, and wind would be a welcome refreshment. The prize is letters from home. Jennifer will sit out for medical reasons. Red team’s in the lead, black team a bit behind, and blue team in last. As we’ve seen before, the black team eventually passes the red team, while the blue team just hopes to make their way to to the finish line eventually. In a close battle to the top of the hill, the black team ends up winning as usual. Since everybody finished, everybody gets to read their letters. As a bonus, the black team gets video chats.

Seeing as they have a tennis pro as one of their trainers, it makes sense that this season a tennis court has been added to the ranch, giving Anna’s team a unique opportunity to do their last chance workout with her doing tennis drills.

Bob’s team heads into the pool, where Joe’s fear of drowning takes center stage. At least he can say Bob Harper taught him how to swim.

Mike: 268 pounds (-5, , 1.83%)
Becky: 212 pounds (-2, 0.93%)
Bonnie: 233 pounds (-7, 2.92%)
Blue Total: 713 pounds (-14, 1.93%)

Joe: 301 pounds (-6, 1.95%)
Sunny: 241 pounds (-4, 1.63%)
Antone: 381 pounds (-8, 2.06%)
John: 366 pounds (-9, 2.40%)
Jennifer: 282 pounds (-7, 2.42%)
Black Total: 1571 pounds (-34, 2.12%)

Courtney: 237 pounds (-3, 1.25%)
Jessica: 219 pounds (-2, 0.90%)
Vinny: 382 pounds (-8, 2.05%)
Ramon: 311 pounds (-11, 3.42%)
Red Total: 1149 pounds (-24, 2.05%)

In a very tight race, the blue team will be heading back to the elimination room, where they will have to choose between Mike and Becky. That gives Bonnie the deciding vote.
