The Celebrity Apprentice 5 Episode 4

With the men stumbling over a fashion task in The Celebrity Apprentice 5 Episode 3, project manager George Takei was eliminated.

Dee does not consider the decision the correct one because Lou needs to go.

This week’s task is to do a 10 minute presentation and 10 minute question and answer segment to introduce the new Buick Verano. They will be judged on informational content, brand messaging, and creativity.

Adam is the project manager for the men, in spite of Trump’s suggestion that it be Michael Andretti. He says he races vintage cars, so he feels more suited to this task than the pro racer. Debbie is the project manager for the women. Unlike last week’s task that was geared toward them, the women feel less comfortable with cars.

Aubrey continues to be the idea person for her team. Debbie’s not a fan, but she will use her to the extent she feels comfortable.

Adam’s a comic, but the executives are very reserved. They are open to some humor, allegedly, but his traditional style of humor is not going to fly with them.

Lou mostly just wants to tear his shirt off because that’s what he does.

The women listened to the executives, who emphasized things like safety and technology. That should set them on the right track, whereas Adam just wants to be funny.

Teresa, Tia, and Dayana are relegated to the uncool van, the one in which the occupants are disregarded while the rest of the team comes up with the concept. Tia calls and asks to be put on speaker so they can join the conversation, but they hang up and offer to call back once the idea’s already set. Apparently, Debbie cannot review her notes and have someone on the phone listening at the same time.

Adam’s made up his mind. He wants the others to heckle the presenters and say things like “You suck” and “Shut your pie hole.” He gets complaints from all directions that this is the wrong way to go, but he’s not listening.

The women don’t have anything written as the clock ticks down, except for Tia, whose ideas are immediately dismissed because she was not in the cool van.

With their own comedian on hand, the women are also heading down the comedy route, plus Debbie Gibson’s opportunity to sing a song that was popular 30 years ago. Then Aubrey gets up and pretends her mom died in a car that was less safe than the Buick Verano, or Verona as she calls it. Teresa’s up next with her whole family.

The men mostly have the Adam Carolla show on their hands, though Michael does get on stage for a bit and talk about his experience test driving the car. Their comedy bit does, mostly, go over well, and their car knowledge comes in handy.

Lisa likes most of what Debbie did.

Dee says Adam was amazing. Then Trump gives Michael a hard time for not being the project manager, and I can see why.

Lou thinks he should have been utilized more. Again.

Penn doesn’t think their presentation should have been funny because the executives shied away from it. They prefer witty, which would not be Adam.

Adam says that if they lose, he will not bring anybody back. Trump’s going to remember that.

Teresa and Tia felt left out. They didn’t know what was going on. If the women lose, Debbie would bring them back. The equally marginalized Dayana seems to have escaped the blame this time.

The executives liked how the women integrated the four key features, Lisa’s role, and Aubrey’s passion. They did not get a great sense of the brand, weren’t sure what Tia’s role was, Aubrey called the car a Verona, and they didn’t understand their concept, which the team doesn’t seem to understand either.

They thought Adam was engaging and had a command of the product, the Q&A was very good, and they loved Penn getting out of the car. However, they wondered why Michael was not more utilized, didn’t get a sense of the voice of this particular vehicle, many players had too marginal a role, and they felt a lack of sense of community on the team.

The women have won. Debbie receives $50,000 for her charity, Children International.

When they return to the suite, Debbie apologizes to Teresa for ignoring her, but Teresa’s not buying it.

Adam didn’t realize they were being judged on how many people on the team were utilized. I did not realize that either. It sure was not one of the criteria set out at the beginning of the task.

Paul calls Lou the weakest. Arsenio agrees. Lou says Michael was the weakest because he didn’t step up more in spite of his background. Trump repeats, for the 20th time, telling us he won’t say it again, he was shocked that Michael was not the project manager. The way they keep going on and on and on, the task didn’t matter. It all unraveled at the PM selection. The men should have just taken the day off.

Michael’s defense, a very sound one, is that this was not a car task. It was a marketing and presenting task. Based on his presence on stage, it was clear Michael was not at home in this environment, though his knowledge managed to shine through regardless.

Dee would fire Adam because it was his task. Michael would fire Lou, who is complaining about being underutilized but only says it in the boardroom.

Adam declines to select two people. Because of that, Trump will fire two people tonight. He has a pre-determined target in mind, and he’s not going to let him escape. Jackass. Just let Adam go. Didn’t you learn anything that night you fired four people, which was the beginning of the end of regular Apprentice? Nobody likes stunt firings. Let the rules be what they are. Don’t make them up as you go.

Because he refused to play Trump’s game, Adam has been fired.

Trump tries to twist Arsenio’s arm to make it seem as if would fire Michael. Arsenio still declines to agree. Aside from Lou, nobody has said Michael should be fired. Dee would still fire Lou. Not one to care that nobody is coming to his aid to back up this theory that he’s had for days, Trump fires Michael anyway. Two strong players down, and they still have Lou. The purpose of the show is supposed to be for the strong to survive to the end, but Trump went the extra mile to see how much he could do to cripple the men.

The Amazing Race 20 Episode 4

Losing the balancing act at the road block, twins Elliott & Andrew found themselves eliminated in The Amazing Race 20 Episode 3.

Teams depart in the order in which they arrived.

First: Art & JJ – 5:10PM
Second: Brendon & Rachel – 9:59PM
Third: Joey & Danny – 10:00PM
Fourth: Bopper & Mark – 10:08PM
Fifth: Nary & Jamie – 10:09PM
Sixth: Rachel & Dave – 10:10PM
Seventh: Kerri & Stacy – 10:45PM
Eighth: Vanessa & Ralph – 12:15AM

Teams will now fly 6000 miles to Turin, Italy. With evening pit starts, all teams will have to wait until the next morning to leave the airport, erasing the 5 hour gap Art & JJ built up over the second place team.

Bopper & Mark are the lone team to disregard the instructions to go the travel agent and instead head straight to the airport, so they have to turn around and head back where they started, which puts them in last place and on a flight an hour and a 15 minutes behind all the other teams.

Not having learned her lesson from last week’s last place finish, Vanessa continues to focus her energy on picking on Rachel. Then we have Rachel & Dave, who pick up right where they left off with their bickering.

The fast forward requires teams to land a model helicopter on their partner’s head, which is harder than the road block but just requires some patience. Art & JJ arrive first and head there, so Brendon & Rachel let them have it. The sixth team to arrive, Rachel & Dave give it come consideration, or at least Dave does while Rachel uses the opportunity to improve her skills at sarcasm.

The road block requires them to rappel 120 feet down the inside of the Lingoto Building. They have 2 minutes to grab their clues, or they will have to go again. This looks like it will be a very quick road block, which is not good news for the team that’s behind by over an hour.

Road block (in order of arrival): Rachel, Danny, Vanessa, Jamie, Rachel, Stacy, Bopper

Vanessa is the first to fail at the task and be sent back to the top to start over. Jamie follows suit. Both are successful in their second try. The other teams all make it on their first attempt.

Their next stop is Museo Nazionale Dell’ Automobile, where they will find their next clue in a 1916 model T, but primarily this is an opportunity for a commercial for Ford’s Active Park feature. You would think the car would park itself simply, but not simply enough for Brendon and Rachel to not begin arguing.

They must figure out that the building on the 2 cent euro, Mole Antonelianna, is their next stop. Most teams get it right away. Still fighting, Rachel & Brendon struggle to figure out the clue and instead talk about quitting the race and life in general.

The detour is a choice between clean that statue and name that salami. In clean that that statue, they must use the equipment provided to clean statues. In name that salami, they must taste 14 types of salami, travel half a mile, and identify the salami by the correct name. Here come the really bad double entendres.

Statue: Joey & Danny, Rachel & Dave, Nary & Jamie, Vanessa & Ralph, Bopper & Mark
Salami: Brendon & Rachel, Kerri & Stacy

The statue task turns out to be easier since all they have to do is give it one try, whereas the salami task is going to take multiple attempts. As all the statue people complete their challenge, Rachel’s meltdown continues, and so does the discussion of quitting, before they finally kiss and make up. I’ve seen this story a dozen times before.

The pit stop for this leg of the race is Piazza Castello.

First: Art & JJ (win $5,000 each)
Second: Rachel & Dave
Third: Joey & Danny
Fourth: Vanessa & Ralph
Fifth: Nary & Jamie
Sixth: Brendon & Rachel
Seventh: Kerri & Stacy
Non-eliminated: Bopper & Mark

This leg was over with Bopper & Mark making their early mistake, but they have not been eliminated. Art & JJ have decided to split the money they won with Bopper, who is in the race for his daughter.

American Idol Season 11 Episode 18

The top 13 performed in American Idol Season 11 Episode 17. Tonight the judges will listen to what America has to say and ignore it, making their own choice instead.

Hollie Cavanagh, Elise Testone, and Jessica Sanchez are first. We can safely assume Elise is in danger while the other two are safe.

Heejun Han, Colton Dixon, and Jermaine Jones are up next. Another obvious result in which Jermaine is in danger but the other two are safe.

Erika van Pelt, Shannon Magrane, and Skylar Laine are the next group. Erika and Shannon round out the bottom three for the girls.

Phillip Phillips, Joshua Ledet, Jeremy Rosado, and Deandre Brackensick are the final group of guys. Phil is safe. Jeremy once again fails to get America’s vote. Deandre is safe, which leaves Joshua in the bottom three guys.

Jermaine, Jeremy, Shannon, and Elise find themselves at the bottom. Steven asks if any of them deserve to leave. He answers Jeremy. Jermaine is safe. Shannon is also safe.

Now we head to the judges, who must decide whether to eliminate Jeremy or Elise. The most sensible pick here is Jeremy because the public is trying to send the judges a message. And so it goes. Elise is safe, and Jeremy Rosado has been eliminated.

Survivor: One World Episode 4

In a move reminiscent of the fat 5, the young, fit guys found themselves on the wrong end of the numbers in Survivor: One World Episode 3, leading to Matt’s elimination.

Jonas tells the girls he’s from Hawaii and knows how to use the fishing net. His offer is to use the net to catch some fish and give them half. They decline with the logic that they can’t feed their enemy (or themselves).

The object of the reward challenge is to knock out 5 targets in a row with a coconut slingshot. They can choose comfort (pillows, blankets, and a mattress), protection from the rain (a tarp), or luxury (coffee and donuts). Bill sits out for the men. Tarzan scores the first strike for the men. Kat scores the first clean hit for the women. Michael connects for the men. Monica hits one for the women. Sabrina scores, giving them two in a row in two spots. Jay strikes a second in a row for the men. Lisa hits the third in a row. Kim makes it four. Jonas (or Jason if you believe Tarzan) hits the third in a row. Chelsea strikes for a different row of three. Monica scores to win reward. They take the tarp, which evens the score with the men, who won a tarp earlier in the season.

Bill hears from Leif how Colton wanted to get rid of him. Now Colton still hates Bill, but he hates Leif as well.

Heading into the challenge, Alicia starts bickering with Kat because that’s what she does. That oughta get the morale up. At the challenge, they are paired up to solve puzzles. Jonas sits out for the men. Colton and Tarzan solve the first puzzle, pulling ahead of Alicia and the person who got stuck with her, Chelsea. Jay and Michael solve their second puzzle. Chelsea and Alicia look at the men’s puzzle, which leads to them being called cheaters. This doesn’t help them very much, but eventually they finally solve it. Troyzan and Bill solve their third puzzle. Men win immunity. Alicia finds this loss amusing.

Christina remains a target, but Alicia has joined her on the chopping block.

Meanwhile, Bill would like to discuss Colton’s issues with him. Colton covers his head, whines, tells him he’s going home next, and says he doesn’t want to talk. Colton has a plan. Go to the girls and give away immunity. This is so ridiculously stupid that I don’t know whether it’s even allowed because nobody has ever been this idiotic before. Tarzan is onboard because he wants to get rid of Leif, a traitor. Even Bill says this may be a good idea because it takes the heat off him (to be returned next time, at best). Somehow, they manage to swing a majority to vote for the men to go instead of the women.

Surely this is one of the most stupid moves in the history of the game, but it goes to show that Colton is in control of his group of morons.

Tribal degrades into a race war and a discussion about homosexuality as the two minorities slug it out when Colton tells Bill to get a real job.

The Biggest Loser Season 13 Episode 10

As the only person on the losing team without immunity, Chism was eliminated in The Biggest Loser Season 13 Episode 9.

This week’s excuse: I can’t get out of my comfort zone. For the week, they’re switching trainers. Does that make them comfortable? They treat it like it’s the end of the world to be away from their trainers for a week. They’re going to have to get used to it unless they can get their trainers to relocate. In addition to the trainer twist, the team that wins the weigh in is the team that will vote, eliminating whatever member of the losing team they choose.

Dolvett works out his new black team, which is now an all female team. Once he gets done with that drama, he has an idea. Put on a pair of tights and join the girls for some ballet.

One thing about this week is that the target is someone on the opposite team. That leads to a different kind of strategy. Emily and Cassandra suggest eliminating Buddy. At the very least they know they want to get rid of some of the guys.

Their challenge is to dig through the mud and find weights. The prize is a 2 pound advantage. Each team will need to find 40 weights. It’s a close battle for a while, but at one point, Emily becomes her own worst enemy in the challenge, allowing the other team to open a 6 point lead. As the challenge approaches a close, the girls narrow the gap to 2. Then 1. In what turns out to be a close battle, the red team wins. The 2 pound advantage is not as big a deal for them as it would have been for the other team, but the key was to keep out of their hands.

Kim, Cassandra, and Emily approach Conda to discuss a girl power final four. Well, this plan was working out until they dragged Conda into the mix. She goes to Buddy and reveals all. In case they didn’t notice, Conda’s brother is still on the show.

Mark: 213 pounds (-2, 0.93%)
Buddy: 289 pounds (-5, 1.70%)
Kimmy: 165 pounds (-2, 1.20%)
Jeremy: 282 pounds (-7, 2.42%)
Kim: 182 pounds (-4, 2.15%)
Red Total: 1131 pounds (-20, -2, 1.91%)

Before the black team weighs in, Emily pipes up. She doesn’t think they’ll be able to win.

Cassandra: 172 pounds (-3, 1.71%)
Chris: 184 pounds (-1, 0.54%)
Megan: 204 pounds (-1, 0.49%)
Emily: 195 pounds (-4, 2.01%)
Conda: 228 pounds (-3, 1.30%)
Black Total: 983 pounds (-12, 1.21%)

In a pretty bad week across the board, the black team loses the weigh in by a large margin. That puts the power in the hands of the red team. As the player with the highest percentage of weight loss on her team, Emily has immunity.

The Celebrity Apprentice 5 Episode 3

Once the dust settled from the over the top drama in The Celebrity Apprentice 5 Episode 2, Victoria Gotti was fired.

This week’s task is to design living window displays for the Ivanka Trump Collection, to be judged by Ivanka and an executive from Lord & Taylor. Dayana volunteers for the women, getting the nod over Teresa. The gay guys are nominated for the men, with George drawing the short straw.

Everybody is drawn to Aubrey’s ideas for their team, and like last week, it’s not long before she takes over.

For George, the first trick is to figure out just how many windows they are responsible for doing. Once he realizes the task says two, they’re off. They want to see hot twins. That’s about it.

The women had already come up with a day and night theme, and after meeting with the executives, the men are on the same path.

Unlike the men, who have to go hunting for models, the women already have much of what they need present. Debbie believes she can fit into that role, but at age 41, she’s outside the target demographic and quite a bit older than multiple members of her team.

Adam used to be a carpenter, so he’s right at home when they start building their sets. So much at home that he declines to run his ideas by the project manager. Not that George seems overly concerned. He’s willing to defer to his team to run with what little guidance he provides.

Having planned to jam multiple themes into each window, the women realize something on arrival. These displays are a lot smaller than they thought. They try to talk the team in the van into reducing their ideas to just the best ones, which those who are not physically at the location are reluctant to do. By the time Don Jr. arrives, their concept doesn’t seem to exist yet.

Deciding there is a need to also display Ivanka’s jewelry, Debbie makes a call to Ivanka asking for access to that collection as well. Simple enough to get a yes.

Dee finds out the diagnosis on his finger is not as good as he’d hoped. He needs to have surgery, now.

One thing the men have neglected to notice that Ivanka stressed: her brand’s color is coral. What they did manage to do thanks to Paul is create signs that are brand specific. The women have a coral border around their windows, which ultimately ends up covering their shoes.

Having struggled with their photos the night before, the morning of the presentation, the women’s struggle continues. With an hour until the presentation, their photos and sketches, which are the center of their theme now, are sitting in traffic. So they think. The sketches are printed. The photos are not. That leaves one window display blank with 10 minutes to figure out an alternative. Aubrey comes up with a plan B on the spot.

As the task begins, Dee returns with a cast. The one armed man isn’t quitting. Arsenio insists this can’t be done with one arm, but that didn’t prevent Dave from winning Hell’s Kitchen 6.

During the pitch, George mentions Lou’s name as someone who didn’t want to get involved. Lou’s standing right there. Here comes another tantrum.

When they arrive in the boardroom, Dayana still struggles to explain their concept.

Teresa thinks Dayana was great. Nobody disagrees.

Tia declines to comment on the weakest player. Teresa continues the lovefest. Dayana doesn’t want to mention two people to bring back because they won. Trump tries to bully her into answering, but it doesn’t work. So who would Aubrey choose? She doesn’t want to answer either. Who would she want to stick around? Lisa and Patricia.

Clay has been hard on George throughout the episode, but when asked in the boardroom, his response is that George did a perfectly fine job. Arsenio liked working for George because he left him alone to do his job.

The judges liked the women’s attention to detail, use and integration of the logo throughout, the living aspect of the window, and clear understanding of the demographic. They did not like the fan because it wasn’t a photo shoot, and they did not like the lost visibility of the shoes.

On the men’s side, they loved the signs so much that Ivanka wants to use them for her shop, and they also liked the twin concept, brand messaging, and Arsenio’s presence in the scene. They did not like that it was hard to see the second window due to their choice of a very dark midnight blue color, they did not feel that the clothing was appropriate to the setting, and they felt the team lacked creativity and did not take risks.

All things considered, the men did a good job, but the women did better. As the winning project manager, Dayana wins $20,000 for her charity, the Latino Commission on AIDS.

Lou suggests that Adam’s reluctance to call George and ask whether midnight blue was okay is the reason for the lack of visibility in the second display, but this was a color George had already signed off on.

Arsenio was the only person on the team willing or able to choose the clothing. They can try to blame him for this, but none of the others would have stepped up to the plate in his absence. Because of this issue, Lou would fire Arsenio. Arsenio’s input is that, if the clothing was a problem, maybe he should be fired.

Paul would fire George due to his communication. Clay would also fire George because he didn’t necessarily delegate tasks. Adam would fire the project manager.

Penn says he was self marginalized, since he doesn’t have a good eye. Teller does all of their visual work.

George will be bringing back Arsenio for the clothing and Lou for his lack of a role.

Lou doesn’t think George is an aggressive enough person to be the project manager.

Arsenio doesn’t know what happened at the location with Adam’s subteam, and neither does George. That said, what they do know is that there are members of the team who wanted Lou to be elsewhere.

George assumes he will be fired. With that, George has been fired.

The Amazing Race 20 Episode 3

Unable to catch up to the rest of the pack after their bus broke down in The Amazing Race 20 Episode 2, clowns Dave & Cherie found themselves out of the race.

Teams depart in the order in which they arrived, presumably.

They will now fly to Asuncion, Paraguay. With teams leaving at midnight, the airport serves as an equalizer.

Art & JJ have a prediction that they’ll dominate the whole season with Rachel & Dave. That’s probably the kiss of death, but as Mexican border patrol agents, they know they’ll be strong as long as they stick around Latin America.

The first two teams get on standby on the earliest flight. The “teachers” (aka federal agents) wave another team over so they, too, can get on standby, a strategy which Art or JJ takes credit for, as if getting on standby is some great mystery.

First flight (departs at 8:45AM): Rachel & Dave, Art & JJ, Nary & Jamie, Bopper & Mark
Second flight (departs at 10:40AM): Brendon & Rachel, Kerri & Stacy, Vanessa & Ralph, Joey & Danny, Elliott & Andrew

The detour is a choice between stacked up or strung out. In stacked up, they will stack watermelons in a 10×10 pyramid. In strung out, they must attach 36 strings to a harp and get it ready for tuning.

Stacked up: Art & JJ, Joey & Danny, Vanessa & Ralph
Strung out: Rachel & Dave (switched from stacked up), Nary & Jamie (switched from stacked up), Bopper & Mark (switched from stacked up), Kerri & Stacy (switched from stacked up), Brendon & Rachel (switched from stacked up), Elliott & Andrew (switched from strung out to stacked up to strung out)

Given the choice, the physical task is typically the best option, in spite of the heat and humidity, and that fact is not lost on these teams, almost all of whom choose to stack watermelons.

Rachel & Dave find themselves bickering to the point where he tells her to just sit on the cart and relax so he can work on his own. Art & JJ have no trouble with the task, but the other teams find the catch. Once they’re almost done stacking, their piles come crashing down. As the lead teams are leaving to switch detours, they see the Mississippi girls catching up. Bopper & Mark pretend that the task was easy and take their cab, but when they see all the melons all over the place, they’re not buying what the guys are selling, immediately turning around to switch detours. Meanwhile, Vanessa views this task primarily as an opportunity to talk smack about Brendon & Rachel. This ends when the Big Brother couple realizes that not only is this a difficult task, but they don’t want to listen to Vanessa’s mouth for the next two hours, so they just cut their losses and switch. As much as Ralph eventually finds himself wanting to quit, Vanessa declines to do so, stubbornly insisting on staying even after the sun sets.

By the time they get to the other detour, Rachel & Dave see that everybody else is stringing harps, so they decide to go ahead and use their express pass. Seems like a rush decision, but it’ll push them up to second place. The other teams find themselves in an air conditioned room with relaxing music, which makes them think they should have come here in the first place. This particular task goes on as short or as long as your skill allows it to, with little risk of being reset to zero by bad luck or bad planning. As the only ones who tried this task first, the twins find themselves heading off in that direction, but their decision to leave doesn’t last long.

Their next stop is Plaza de Democracia. The road block is to dance while balancing a bottle on top of their heads. Failure to complete the task before all bottles are broken will result in a 2 hour penalty. Could be easier to just smash them all right now.

Road block (in order of arrival): Art, Dave, Rachel, Joey, Mark, Kerri, Nary, Elliott, Ralph

Art makes it through unscathed. Dave is not so lucky and takes the penalty. Rachel and Joey have an easy time with the road block, allowing them to leapfrog the team that’s been penalized. As the seconds tick away in the penalty, two more teams pass them, but they’re still ahead of the trailing teams. Phil tells us this is the first time ever that a team has not completed a challenge but still stayed in the race. What about Rob & Amber in one of the best moments from their season, the meat eating challenge?

The pit stop for this leg of the race is the monument Escalinata de Antequera.

First: Art & JJ (win a trip to the Bahamas)
Second: Brendon & Rachel
Third: Joey & Danny
Fourth: Bopper & Mark
Fifth: Nary & Jamie
Sixth: Rachel & Dave
Seventh: Kerri & Stacy
Eighth: Vanessa & Ralph
Eliminated: Elliott & Andrew

Falling behind on the road block after a difficult detour, Elliott & Andrew have been eliminated. And I was so looking forward to Vanessa & Ralph getting their comeuppance due to her bad attitude and bad decisions. Maybe next time.

Stay tuned to dingoRUE for another live recap of The Amazing Race 20 Episode 4, which airs Sunday at 8/7cish on CBS.
