Melissa was eliminated in Hell’s Kitchen Season 8 Episode 6 because, uh, well, why not?
Having dodged the bullet again, Sabrina asks if she can start off with a clean slate. Gail says they don’t have anything against her. Really? Okay, maybe Gail doesn’t, but Nona and Trev sure do, as did Melissa. Nona’s plan is to get rid of Sabrina, still. That plan blew up in Melissa’s face. I’m sure willing to watch it happen to Nona, too.
Ramsay unveils a roulette wheel. There are 18 letters on the wheel, which the contestants will use to pick their ingredients. Vinny will spin twice.
Blue team: kale (Vinny), yams (Vinny), miso (Boris), striped bass (Rob), asparagus (Russell)
Red team: rutabaga (Trev), cauliflower (Jillian), bok choy (Sabrina), fennel (Gail), salmon (Nona)
Boris’ choice of miso does not impress anybody, but the blue team pulls it together when Rob finally selects a main ingredient.
On the other team, rutabaga is the first food that pops into Trev’s mind when given the choice of something beginning with R. Really? Adding to their misery, Sabrina selects bok choy. For their last choice, Nona finally selects something that had a mother. Lucky letter S.
Boris will stick by his choice of miso, and they reluctantly agree the choice is not so bad after tasting it. Unlike Boris, Trev is not so lucky. His rutabaga chips are burnt and bitter, but he does impress one person. Himself.
The red team has made a grilled salmon dish in cauliflower puree with baby bok choy, pan-roasted fennel, and rutabaga chips. Salmon is cooked perfectly, and the fennel is delicious. However, Nona’s cauliflower puree has too much butter, making it look terrible, although it tastes good. The bad news continues with Trev’s bitter chips.
The blue team has cooked pan-seared striped bass with braised kale, asparagus, and fried yams in a light miso broth. Presentation has a wow factor. The fish and kale are cooked perfectly, and the miso tastes delicious. Rob’s asparagus and yams, though, were lazy.
Red team wins the challenge. Trev can’t believe “we” (the rest of his team) pulled this off. For their reward, they are going to Vegas, where they are surprised by Penn & Teller. The blue team will remain behind to prepare potatoes for the next service. Forgetting that Rob cost them the challenge, they turn their anger toward Boris.
Jillian, Sabrina’s lone ally, has decided that she’s tired of Sabrina’s attitude, too, and will be nominating her if they lose. Regardless of how service goes? Same basic criteria as the rest of the team I see.
Amongst the diners will be Ramsay’s family, as it’s time for family night, complete with a kids menu.
Ramsay is still pushing Trev as the leader for the red team. I’m still not clear what has transpired that would lead him to believe this is so.
Vinny is cooking too much risotto. At least the quality of the food is not bad. Jillian is less lucky, and she wants to kick the risotto’s ass.
Blue team gets stuck with Ramsay’s family. Good luck with that. Vinny grabs the risotto he previously made because there was nothing wrong with it. Wrong answer. It’s old. Even if there is nothing wrong with it. Does he want to go home? Over this? Get a grip.
Sabrina’s not sure about the meat, so she asks Trev for his assistance. He grants her request but still hates her, helping her deliver perfectly cooked meat. Boris has cooked his meat perfectly as well, but he fails to clean his board before slicing another one.
Nona’s running behind on garnish. She calls out a time of 15 seconds. Trev goes up to her and starts counting down. This guy needs to be slapped. Repeatedly.
Like Nona, Rob falls behind on garnish. He is angry with Russell for not sliding over to help him out. Russell has no intent of helping Rob or anybody else. There is no Russell in team.
As Trev bosses Sabrina around, she has decided she doesn’t want to take it, so she tries to put him in his place. Not happening. His ego continues to grow. He’s running the show, and she will do as he demands, while shutting up. Sabrina considers him to be a maniac, not in a good way. She delivers raw chicken after getting the okay from Trev to go with it.
Back in the blue kitchen, Rob continues his struggle on mac and cheese. Ramsay will feed the rest of his family first then. His son will have to wait.
90% of the customers left happy, but elimination will still proceed. Each team will come up with two suggestions based on tonight’s service.
So obviously the first nominee is Sabrina, based on the rest of the season. Did anything get sent back? Trev mentions the chicken, to which Sabrina responds that if she goes up for that, he should, too. Jillian votes Sabrina as planned. Gail points out that Nona struggled and put them behind.
Speaking of going after people based on the rest of the season, the blue team’s first choice is obvious: Boris. Boris in turn nominates Vinny. Vinny votes for Boris and Rob. Rob doesn’t appreciate Russell’s lack of assistance, so he nominates him.
Red team has nominated Sabrina and Nona; blue team has nominated Boris and Rob. When nominating Rob, Russell says that everyone was trying to help him. Everybody other than Russell that is, although Russell lies and claims otherwise.
Ramsay chooses one suggestion from each team: Nona and Rob, the two garnish people who held up their kitchens. In his defense, Rob makes sure he throws Russell under the bus. With all that fake drama out of the way, nobody is going home. It was a great service.
