Unable to figure out how long she has to cook food for, Stacey was the first person eliminated in Hell’s Kitchen Season 7 Episode 1.
The chefs are awakened at 5 in the morning by a loud alarm. For the team challenge, they will be working in pairs, preparing four different egg dishes in 5 minutes: poached, sunny side up, scrambled, and soft boiled. Siobhan will be on her own because the ladies are one person short. Autumn gets her back and helps make most of her eggs.
Nilka and Maria go first. Their soft boiled egg is perfect. They also score with all their other eggs.
Salvatore and Michael are the second team. Their scrambled egg is stuck to the plate after Salvatore put it back when Scott told him it was runny. His soft boiled egg is hard. Mikey, however, comes through with both of his eggs.
Siobhan goes next. How long does she cook soft boiled eggs? She doesn’t know. Her teammates helped her, and she blames Autumn for pressuring her into making her help her. That’s why she only managed to cook two poached eggs. The poached egg is worth a point at least.
Ed and Jay are next. Ramsay doesn’t even have to taste the poached egg to know it’s perfect. They also score with their soft boiled and sunny side up eggs. That ties the teams at 5 each.
Autumn and Fran are the next team. Autumn’s soft boiled egg is delicious. Fran’s scrambled egg, however, is not good. Nor is their sunny side up egg. Who poached their egg? Siobhan. Well, there goes another point lost.
Scott and Andrew score 3 points to take the 8-6 lead.
Jamie and Holli get all 4 points, including 1 for the best scrambled egg of the morning.
Jason and Ben need 3 points to win. Their first egg is bland. Their second two eggs score. The final egg is good. Men win the challenge.
For their reward, the blue team will be going on a helicopter ride. This presents an opportunity for us to hear more of Salvatore’s accent. I wonder if this guy even knows where Italy is.
As for the ladies, they will have to gut, clean, and filet a huge tuna. While they wait for delivery, Siobhan can go upstairs and cry some more.
Fran and Scott will be working with tuna tartar for the night and serving it tableside.
Salvatore can’t name a dessert. He can leave now.
Autumn has added salt to the water, far too much salt.
After some studying, Sal is back to name a dessert. He gets them all right except for the one in Italian.
Mikey’s rice is undercooked. He disagrees with Ramsay’s outlook on risotto. After 43 minutes, he finally makes it right. So it seems. That is until the customer rejects it and asks for it to be cooked more.
Once again Autumn wants to help Siobhan. This ends about as well as the last time.
Nilka’s lost on the garnish station.
Salvatore’s first wellington is cooked perfectly. Jason’s chicken won’t be coming up any time soon, though.
The women seem to be hitting their stride, but Jamie’s salmon is not up to par.
Over in the blue kitchen, they’ve cooked potato soup. Andrew starts to stand up to Ramsay. Stick it to the man. Not one to allow someone to stand up for themselves, Ramsay tells Andrew to get lost. Since there is not enough room in the kitchen for both Ramsay’s ego and Andrew, he has decided to quit the show.
There will be no winning team tonight. Both teams have to come to a consensus on one person.
Jason’s name is brought up first by the guys. His suggestion is Salvatore. Mikey agrees this, and he’s surprised that nobody noticed he couldn’t cook risotto.
Nilka is the target for the women. Maria wants to get rid of Autumn. Her reason: oversalted water. Really?
The women have nominated Autumn. Jason has been nominated by the men.
Once they step forward, Ramsay asks who the worst cook on the red team is. Not Autumn. What a stupid nomination then. Because Jamie is the worst chef (again the women follow Maria’s lead on this), she is nominated, while Autumn is now safe.
With three people having been nominated, surely that’s enough to choose from. So the person leaving Hell’s Kitchen is… Mikey. He backed his team up two services in a row, and they should have nominated him. At least he’s still got his Hell’s Kitchen tattoo.
