The Bachelorette 5 Episode 4

Jillian eliminated three more guys in The Bachelorette 5 Episode 3: Sasha, Brad, and Tanner F.

Jillian has left the country. The boys will be leaving the bunkhouse forever and fly to Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. They will be put up in a luxurious suite, and they’re apparently going to be staying there for a while. Heading home after a couple episodes seems unusual. So is Jillian like planning to be working while she’s trying to find her fairy tale prince?

Kiptyn gets the one-on-one date. They hop in kayaks to go get groceries at the public market. So I’m guessing that in the winter she uses sled dogs instead. While they’re shopping, they discuss charity, which they both enjoy but don’t really have time for. When they’re done shopping, they go back home to cook dinner together. She doesn’t mind that he’s hanging around/over her in the kitchen, although she normally would prefer to be alone. Kiptyn says that, in relationships, he just waits for someone come to him, rather than him going to them. I doubt he has much trouble getting people to come to him, though. As well as they’ve gotten along throughout the day, it’s no surprise that Kiptyn gets a rose.

The group date will be Jesse, Tanner, Jake, Robby, Wes, Ed, Michael, Reid, Juan, and David. That leaves Mike against Mark for the two-on-one. For the group date, they will be participating in an internationally recognized (in Canada) winter sport, curling. It’s safe to say none of these guys have ever done this before. The winning team will go out with Jillian that night, while the losing team will be going back to the hotel. Lame, but her justification that she’d rather just spend some time with a few guys makes sense. Granted, the producers could just plan more dates. While everybody else is playing, Michael just keeps hugging her. Beats curling. With one whole point (I’m guessing it’s a point… who knows the rules of curling?), red team wins the challenge.

For their reward, red team will be going on a historic boat with Jillian. David wants some tequila because it’s probably been a couple hours since he had any. While he finds that, Jake and Jillian go off alone. They haven’t talked much since their individual date. She thinks he’s perfect, which worries him. He’s been called too perfect all his life. Jillian tells Jesse that he’s there for a reason, not just out of luck. David has the opposite problem of Jake. He’s far from too perfect. When they get comfortable, he’s a little bit too comfortable with her. Her question: does he respect her? His goal is to get a kiss from her, since she turned the other cheek. Jesse gets the rose.

Mark and Michael will be competing in the two-on-one date. One will get a rose and the other will be sent packing. They get in a helicopter to ride over Vancouver. Jillian gets a window seat, which means that the guy in the middle, Mike, gets to hold her hand, while the guy who gets the other window seat becomes a bit of a third wheel. Mark’s outside of his comfort zone, so he’s struggling at dinner, while Mike is talkative and trying to get to know Jillian. There is no clear cut decision here for Jillian. She’d like to talk to each of them alone. After talking to Mike, she feels they have a lot more in common than she thought. Mark’s careful with his emotions, having been burned before, which is something Jillian’s emphasized more than once before as being important to her. Jillian has decided to give the rose to Mark. With that, Mike will be going home. She’s going for what she thinks she needs in a partner.

Reid’s worried that Wes is here for his music. He’s not alone in thinking that. The other guys pretty much seem to be in agreement with him. Here’s the (additional) complication with Wes. He has a girlfriend at home, and he’s apparently been dumb enough to tell the other guys that.

Jillian is worried that Jake may be pulling back. He wants to make sure that he actually is what she is looking for. There are some guys who are not there for the right reasons.

Tanner follows this. He warns her that there are guys she needs to know about, though he’s not ready to reveal names yet.

Following that conversation, which is becoming a theme, Jillian confronts the group as a whole about having relationships and hidden agendas. The cocktail party is over. She’ll see them at the rose ceremony.

Chris would like to get to the bottom of this before another rose is handed out, though he realizes that it’s entirely possible they may continue the charade.

So does anyone have something to say? Dead silence. Jake breaks the silence. He’s there to find love. A few other guys echo his sentiments. All the guys deny they have a girlfriend. David doesn’t like snitches (it’s probably against that guy code of his). He’d like for the snitch to reveal himself. He suggests eliminating that person. The net result of this discussion: nobody admits to anything. A defensive Tanner mostly just wants Juan to stop looking at him.

Wes lives to write another song. Arch enemies David and Juan have been cut, joining Mike from earlier in the night. Juan says he’s surprised but is more determined than ever to find a wife. David wants to know why. Jillian doesn’t want to tell him he’s a creep, so she just says she doesn’t know.
