Danny Gokey was sent home in American Idol 8 Episode 38, bringing us down to a final two of Adam Lambert against Kris Allen.
Kris won the coin toss and is chosing to go second. Each guy will sing three songs: their favorite from the season, a song chosen by show creator, and the winning song.
A word of warning for tomorrow. The show will run long. That’s right. If you record it, you will miss the actual result you waited all season to see, only to be greeted by a bunch of completely unrelated filler. Despite the fact that the actual reading of the results will take no more than two whole minutes, these idiots can’t get it done in time.
Adam Lambert (personal choice)
Song: Mad World by Tears for Fears
Randy: A+ for Adam.
Kara: So happy you chose that performance. Rocked it again tonight.
Paula: Proud you are standing on that stage right now.
Simon: A little bit overtheatrical. A little bit Phantom of the Opera.
Numbers: 1-866-IDOLS-01 or 1-866-IDOLS-03 or 1-866-IDOLS-05
Kris Allen (personal choice)
Song: Ain’t No Sunshine by Bill Withers (playing piano)
Randy: One of your best performances ever.
Kara: Creating an intimate bond with everybody in the audience.
Paula: Way of Allenizing songs.
Simon: Wasn’t sure whether America made the right choice, but absolutely take all that back.
Numbers: 1-866-IDOLS-02 or 1-866-IDOLS-04 or 1-866-IDOLS-04
Simon calls round one for Kris.
Adam Lambert (Simon Fuller’s choice)
Song: Change Is Gonna Come by Sam Cooke
Randy: You can sing your face off.
Kara: May have been your best performance and interpretation of a song.
Paula: Best I’ve ever heard you sing ever, ever, ever, ever. (Ever?)
Simon: 100% back in the game.
Kris Allen (Simon Fuller’s choice)
Song: What’s Going On by Marvin Gaye (playing guitar)
Randy: Song choice is a little bit light for this point in the competition.
Kara: The kind of artist that can deliver that message and uplift people.
Paula: Tore that song up and made Marvin Gaye proud.
Simon: Like three friends in their bedroom strumming along to Marvin Gaye. Too laid back for a night like this.
Simon calls round two for Adam a million percent.
The first Idol single is called No Boundaries and was co-written by Kara DioGuardi, and that will be the final song of the night for each of the finalists.
Randy: You can sing anything. Not one of my favorite Adam performances, though. Just alright. A little pitchy in spots.
Kara: Moved, proud, and thank you.
Paula: Words and/or adjectives can’t express what you brought to this show.
Simon: One of the best, most original contestants over the entire season. Believe we have found a star with you.
Randy: Amazing competitor. That song kinda fits your voice even better.
Kara: Don’t want you to be judged on that song. Agree the key was too high.
Paula: Amazing job to end up where you are. One of the most compelling finales.
Simon: Your first song was your highlight. Thoroughly deserved to be standing on the stage tonight.
