  1. Hello,

My name is Ron, and my sister, Orlie, and I are trying out for the upcoming season of TAR. I’ve been a huge fan for a while and you guys are my favorite team so far! I’m also a Columbus native, and my sister and I are hoping we are competitive enough to get a casting call. I was wondering if you had any advice on the whole process. Orlie and I think we have a few competitive hooks but any advice on perhaps how to market these would be appreciated. Orlie is in law school and a fine manipulator–she just placed 5th in the nation in the national Negotiations competition in Boston. She speaks Hebrew (we are Israeli), French, Italian, English, and received a gold medal in the national Latin exam. She also lived in Italy for a semester and is very good with people. I went to Johns Hopkins and majored in Spanish with a pre-medical concentration. I worked for the Spanish government last year in Madrid and am living at home this year working as a server to save up money before going to medical school in the fall. Hebrew was also my first language and I’ve traveled extensively. I’m also a huge health nut and grew up in Columbus! I think Orlie and I have the common younger brother/older sister power struggles but we’re very close friends because we work so hard at our relationship.

Thanks again for reading this far and any advice would be great. Also good luck on the race, I have a lot of faith in you guys!

What you have to remember is that it is a RELATIONSHIP show. hey care not how much or how little you’ve traveled, what kind of crazy extreme sports you’ve done or how engaging either of you may be by yourselves. Casting is looking for relationship dynamics, so you need to figure out what your is and emphasize that.

    Hope that helps,

    Good luck

    Brad

  3. Hey Brad,

Thanks for the advice. Our 3 minute tape had us ask each other questions we made up for the other which we’d never seen before, hoping to get candid, real reactions, which I think worked. We highlighted that we have a close friendship but it’s still not where we want it to be because she doesn’t always treat me like a friend etc. and we are hoping that going through the race will strengthen our trust as well as confidence in each other. I think we also highlighted that we are two very different people: I’m more ethical and hard-working while Orlie hopes to use social skills and whatever it takes to get where she needs to be; I wonder how that will come across. I think it was apparent that we have a good dynamic together, even though we have very different viewpoints.
Ultimately, what you were saying about relationships I completely agree with, and hopefully our loving, conflicting, positive dynamic will be one of interest.

If you are able to tell me, how long did you have to wait from turning in the application to hearing about a call-back?
Also, if you’re too busy for this, please say so and I won’t bother you.

Thank you again for your insight,

    Ron

  4. Hi Brad,
I wondered if you might have 15-20 min. to meet with me or talk with me on the phone. My name is Jenny Watson & I work with the American Heart Assoc. here in Cols, OH. We are doing a pilot program based on the Amazing Race & I am setting up the event & gathering a volunteer committee. I wanted to get a few ideas/advice from you & your wife to try to make the event more authentic or get ideas on how to recruit volunteers or participaants. I am literally just getting started & saw the article about you in 614 Columbus Magazine & thought you two woudl be a really interesting resource to touch base with!
The event will be an adventure-based community event/fundraiser, with all proceeds benefitting the AHA & with the goal of promoting physical fitness & heart health.
Let me know if you & your wife would be willing to meet for a coffee or quick lunch or even a phone call, I would love to just get some fun ideas from you!
Thanks so much in advance for your time!
