the Biggest Loser 3 Recap: Episode 11 – The Fantastic Four

the Biggest Loser 3: Episode 11

December 6th, 2006 – Tonight’s episode of the Biggest Loser 3 was a 2-hour special to lead up to next weeks finale, only it wasn’t a usual 2-hour special. The entire first hour of the show was actually dedicated to the high schools of North America, where obesity in young people is quickly becoming a major problem.

The blue team trainer Bob Harper, red team trainer Kim Lyons and the Biggest Loser 2 winner and Co-Founder of the Biggest Loser Club Matt Hoover, went to two High Schools and select 6 overweight teens from each school to join a mini-biggest loser competitions. The results were very surprising for only three weeks of work, and all of the kids stayed focused and dedicated enough to shed as much as 25lbs a piece.

I have to give it to the guys at CBS’ for this idea, it was a really good one and draws attention to the increase in obeisity rates at a young age, as well as the effects corporate and fast-food sponsorships have on high school caffeteria’s and the food they offer. But that’s for another rant, so let’s get on to what everyone wants, the episode 11 recap!

Find out what you missed in episode 11 of the Biggest Loser 3, after the jump!

After the first hour came to an end we got back into the usual swing of things and got to watch a fantastic looking Erik haul Bob Harper up a big hill on a dolly. The Biggest Loser trainers, especially Bob, never fail to come up with some crazy new way of making an already difficult task even harder. I can’t imagine what it’d be like to run up hill while dragging a person on a dolly behind you. Sure, Bob probably doesn’t top 180, but still, that’d suck, but it didn’t seem to phase Erik one bit, as he powered right through it. I think I’m blown away the most by how much Erik has done. When the show first started I figured he’d be a lazy slack-ass the entire show, but he’s been working like mad and has nailed double digit losses in the last three episodes, which no one else can claim to have done.

After we get done watching Erik kick some butt, we get to watch Heather whine and complain some more, which she seems to be pretty good at. She’s STILL trying to play the “you don’t understand me, I’m a loser” card, and it’s just getting old now. I understand that she’s limited in what she can do since she’s injured (speaking of which, how did she get injured anyways?), but she really didn’t seem like she was putting much effort into the work she was actually doing. When Kim asked her to come for a run with her, she whined and complained, had a little fit and essentially told Kim Lyons to piss off because she’s sore and it’ll hurt to much to run. Excuses, excuses. Should could have at least given it a try, or power walked, or something, instead of whining and complaining and just walking off. I’m not a big Heather fan, as might be obvious. šŸ™‚

After getting frustrated and pissed of with Heather herself, Kim pulls Kai out of the weight room and away from her workout for a chat. The chat was half for Kim to cool down and talk to another lady (you know, girl talk and all that), and half to give Kai a pep talk and get her psyched up for the last 2-weeks of the Biggest Loser 3. Luckily the chat seemed to help Kim calm down some, and even seemed to excite Kai a bit.

Back with the blue team, or at least what’s left of it, trainer Bob Harper and big boy Erik decide to take on the hill near the Biggest Loser ranch. The hill they decide to tackle just happens to be the same hill they went up in the first episode of the biggest loser 3, where Erik ended up having to lay down half way up because he was so exhausted. Well, needless to say, things were a little different this time around. Erik made it most of the way to the top, and instead of stopping like he did the first time, he RAN the last little bit, hitting the top without a problem. Once on the top of the hill and enjoying the view of the ranch, trainer Bob has a pep talk with Erik to try and get things psyched up (like either of them weren’t already psyched).

Once back in the Biggest Loser ranch, the trainer’s walk in on a bit of a surprise. Today, the contestants get to train the trainers! In a brilliant twist of events on CBS’ behalf, the trainee’s get to turn the tables and exact a little revenge on the trainers. Naturally, neither Kim or Bob had any problems doing what was asked of them, but it was a real kick to hear Erik screaming through a megaphone at Bob. Before the training was over and done with everyone takes to the field, where Kim says she could walk across the field on her hands. Once she starts to give it a go, Bob, not wanting to be outdone, busts half way down the field doing back flips. Well, that was that and Kim couldn’t be upstaged either. She busted out her own round of back flips, only they were way faster and way tighter. Needles to say, Kim won that round.

And, in another twist of events, the Biggest Loser 2 winner Matt Hoover, along with fellow contestant and now wife, Suzy Hoover, dropped by the ranch to pay the season 3 contestants a visit. They didn’t stay for long and they didn’t really do that much, but they gave all of the remaining contestants a pep talk and made some good points about how they’re going to have to keep doing what they’re doing now or the rest of their life if they want to stay healthy. Apparently Matt gained some weight back after the Biggest Loser 2 was over as he slipped back into his old ways a little, but he got back into it again and lost of all again, although, it did look like he was a little pudgier around the middle than usual. It could have just been the shirt he was wearing, but in the finale of season 2 he was ripped with a 6-pack, so it had me wondering a bit. Either way, him and Suzy still look fantastic!

the Biggest Loser 3 Challenge

Biggest Loser Triathlon!

  • Swim 200 yards across a – what appears to be – man-made lake.
  • Bike 5-miles across and than back over a dam.
  • Run 1.5-miles to the finish line.

Luckily for the contestants, there is no reward or loss for this challenge, so it quickly turned into a team building exercise more than anything else. Bob Harper and Kim Lyons joined in to motivate the contestants while they busted through it, which was a first.

Right off the bat Wylie struggled a bit with the swimming. So, proving that it wasn’t really that much of a “challenge” to begin with, the remaining biggest loser 3 contestants slow down and wait for him to catch up and cheer him on. He does catch up and everyone hops onto their bikes for their 5-mile ride, where Heather is the one to lag behind right away and, surprisingly, trainer Kim is the person to hang back and wait for her to catch up, all the while cheering her on and motivating her further. Last but not least, the running portion of the triathlon had Heather lagging a bit as well, because of her bummed leg; however, unlike earlier when she fought with Kim, Heather broke out her ‘A’ game and power walked like crazy. All of the boys finished the triathlon at the same time, while the girls were close behind. After the “challenge” was over and host Caroline Rhea was congratulating them all, they all gave Caroline a big group hug, from which she emerged soaked with water and sweat. Ha!

Once back at the ranch, Erik gets a visit from an old friend, the resident Biggest Loser Dr., who doesn’t wait long to give him the good news. All the weight he’s lost, all the exercise he’s done and all the healthy food he’s been eating has essentially killed off his diabetes. The Dr. also told him that it may be gone now, but if he goes back to how he was, he’s certainly at risk for it coming back again, which I’m sure will be a fantastic motivator for Erik.

It’s that time again! The last chance workout swings into full gear and it is intense. It’s the final week for all the contestants with their trainers Bob Harper and Kim Lyons, and before they return home to go it on their own for a few months, so everyone is powering through the workouts to make them count. I think tonight’s was the single most intense looking last chance workout of the entire season, it was impressive. And you know what the last chance workout means:

the Biggest Loser 3 Weigh In

  • 167lbs – Heather (down 7lbs – 4.02%)
  • 217lbs – Jaron (down 6lbs – 2.69%)
  • 217lbs – Wylie (down 7lbs – 3.13%)
  • 283lbs – Erik (down 12lbs – 4.07%)
  • 185lbs – Kai (down 4lbs – 2.12%)

Kai and Jaron are the contestants with the lowest percentage of weight loss and both fall below the yellow line, effectively putting them both up for elimination.

the Biggest Loser 3 Elimination

  1. Wylie votes for Jaron
  2. Erik votes for Jaron
  3. Heather’s vote is not shown, as it can’t effect the outcome.

Jaron is the next contestant eliminated from the Biggest Loser 3.

That leaves us with the final four of Kai, Heather, Wylie and Erik. It’s shortly after the elimination that the final four enter the gym one-by-one for the last time to say their goodbye’s to their trainers and to see again what exactly they looked like when they started the show, in cardboard cutout form, before they leave for home.

So ends the Biggest Loser 3 recap of episode 11. Be sure to stay tuned and tune in for next week’s episode 12 and season finale recap! The 2-hour season finale will air on December 13th, 2006, and you can bet it’s going to be good! In the mean time, check out some of the other reality TV recaps offered by dingoRUE.com:
