Amazing Race 10 – Episode 7
Amazingly enough Dave and Mary managed to come in first place in last weeks episode of the Amazing Race, saving themselves from a 30 minutes penalty and earning themselves a head start for the next leg of the race.The first stop on tonights leg of the race is Mauritius off the eastern cost of Africa. Each team must fly to Mauritius, where they will find a marked car that will contain their next clue.
Dave and Mary are the first team to arrive at Kuwait Airport, where they buy tickets to fly from Kuwait to London, and then from London to Mauritius. The first flight leaves at 8am and arrives in Mauritius at 6am the next morning, one heck of a long and round about way of getting there.
Kandice and Dustin step up to the counter to buy their tickets as Karlyn and Lyn quickly show up behind them, with Tyler and James only steps behind them. In an effort to be dicks and to get back at Karlyn and Lyn for not being friendly to them, Kandice and Dustin tell the guy at the counter that Tyler and James are with them and let them jump in front of Karlyn and Lyn. Naturally, one hell of a spitting match broke out as a result of this and Karlyn and Lyn were close to coming to blows with Dustin and Kandice. To bad they didn’t get into it, that could have been entertaining.
By the time 8am comes around, everyone had made it to the Kuwait airport and got their tickets for the same flight. Once again, all teams are even at the start of the race. I almost have the feeling the producers did this intentionally to create more suspense through each episode, because I don’t remember it happening this often in another other season of Amazing Race, at least not that I’ve watched.
Once on the ground in Mauritius, the teams scramble to find their cars and the next clue. In each car sits a model of a scooner with a Spanish phrase tact to the bottom of it, translating roughly to (“Swim to Me”). Each team must drive to the Grand Baie, where the scooner is located, and swim out to it, which would prove to be easier said then done.
Rob and Kim and Kandice and Dustin are the first teams to arrive at Grand Baie, jumping into the water and swimming for the scooner, which just happens to be moored in the middle of the bay. Each team is in for one heck of a swim to get out to the boat.
Dustin and Kandice are the first to reach and set foot on the boat, where they are given the next clue, only there’s a catch. They can’t open the clue until they swim back to the shore where they started. Its a good thing everyone in this season of the Amazing Race can swim, even though they were given life jackets before entering the water, it’s quite a swim.
Tyler and James managed to get themselves completely and utterly lost, yet again, and haven’t even managed to find the Grand Baie it this point, while every other team is already swimming to or from the boat. Great work guys, keep it up!
Once back on the shore the teams tear into their clues and learn that they must now drive to Casa Noyale, where they will find a post office and their next clue.
Strategically or just stupidly, Eriwn and Godwin got back to the shore in third place but elected to wait for the rest of the “6 pack” members (Dave and Mary, Karlyn and Lyn) to get back to shore before heading to Casa Noyale.
On their way to Casa Noyale, Rob and Kim’s car breaks down and Rob can’t manage to pop the clutch into gear, leaving them dead in the water and holding up the traffic at a set of lights. Kim starts to harp on Rob about not being able to pop the clutch in and Rob, completely pissed, throws his arms up in disgust and walks away from the car.
One would think having your car break down during the Amazing Race is close to one of the worst things that could happen, well, Kandice and Dustin proved everyone wrong there. On their way to Casa Noyale they got into a car accident! I can’t recall which of the two was driving, but whoever was plowed the car into the back of a bus, crunching the driver side headlight area in a fair bit, though not enough to put the car out of commission, unfortunately. After a cop takes down their info they hop back into the car and are on there way again, slightly shaken, but not stirred.
Even after rear ending a bus, Kandice and Dustin are the first to reach the post office in Casa Noyale where they get the next clue:
Amazing Race Detour
Salt
- Drive 2 miles to a salt pan (see also: place with big ass piles of salt)
- Search through the giant piles of salt for a salt shaker that contains the next clue
Sea
- Take a boat 2/3 of a mile to an island
- Using a treasure map (of sorts), search the island and find a ships mast and sail
- Return to the boat, get the mast setup, get the clue and boat back to the shore
The “6 pack” all elect to take the Salt detour, while Dustin and Kandice are the only team to choose Sea right off the bat.
While at the Salt challenge, Dave and Mary are the first to find a salt shaker, only one problem, the clue didn’t say anything about salt shakers that DIDN’T hold the clue, but instead are filled with pepper. How much would that suck? Dig through a pile of salt, find a shaker and think you’re done, only to find out it’s filled with pepper and not your clue.
Rob and Kim give up on the Salt detour after a short time and head for the Sea detour. Hot on their heals is Tyler and James, Erwin and Godwin and Karlyn and Lyn, who all elect to jump ship and head for the Sea detour, leaving only Dave and Mary to fend for themselves. After some “inspirational” words from Mary, Dave gives up and decides they should head for the Sea challenge as well, now they’re even further behind everyone.
Once each team has completed the Sea detour they receive their next clue and learn that they must now travel to Chateau Bel Ombre, the pit stop for this leg of the race. Everyone scrambles and heads for the Chateau. Most people get there no problem, Dave and Mary take a wrong turn, costing them valuable time.

Dave and Mary come in last, again, and are safe, again! It turns out, for the second leg in a row, this leg will be a Non Elimination leg. Dave and Mary catch a break yet again, though the same rules apply for the next leg as did the last; They must come in first place or suffer a thirty minute penalty.
