Biggest Loser Recap: Melinda Eliminated

Thus far both the red and blue teams have lost a total combined weight of 438lbs on NBCs hit reality TV series, the Biggest Loser.

The blue team has decided to take a bit of a new approach to the game, even though they didn’t really have anything to do with it. They’ve decided to sit back and watch the red team self destruct, which they managed to do a pretty darn good job of in the last few episodes.

Because of their own stupidity, the red team lost Nelson on last weeks episode, and their frustrations sure showed. Everyone was down in the dumps, whining and crying, and refusing to do anything of any use. Kim was pissed and told everyone to get off their asses, quit whining and getting running to the gate and back. Kai has the balls to tell Kim she just wants to be left alone and kim tells her she can be alone running to the gate. LOL, Go Kim!

During the run, Ken, emotionally and physically exhausted, stops on the ride of the road, sits down on the curb and breaks down in tears. Poor guy, he’s the only person on the red team that I like anymore, the rest of them are pissing me off.

Kim recognizes that the red team as a whole is quickly imploding on itself and sits everyone down for a chat. She shares some stories and tries to refocus everyone and ends up breaking down herself. Everyone misses Nelson. To be honest, I’m still rather pissed that Nelson went home and the fact that the girls are whining and crying about it really burns me, since it’s their fault to begin with. They were the ones that decided to go the alliance route and were to stupid to think, “hey, maybe the guys will create an alliance amungst themselves to defend against the girls alliance.” Whiners, it’s your own fault, suck it up.

Biggest Loser at Home

Chris from West Virginia is the featured Biggest Loser at home contestant. Thus far, through a combination of aerobics, cardio and general working out he has managed to lose a total of 56lbs. He started off as 326 and currently weighs 275. Fantatic work man, keep it up!

Biggest Loser Temptation Challenge

  • Each biggest loser has a table with various kinds of foods on plates in front of them
  • Each plate comes with a note indicating the total amount of calories on the plate
  • The contestants must choose a plate, eat what’s on it and stack the plates in a holder on a seperate middle table
  • Whoever’s plate is on top of the center stack when an airhorn blows wins a Free Pass!

Everyone stars out with the carrots, naturally, the healthiest option of all the plates. However, the red team girls devise a strategy where at any given time one of their 3 plates will be on the top of the stack. In order to carry out this strategy they were forced to eat a lot of bad food to keep a plate at the top of the stack. The girls thought that if one of them won the biggest loser free pass they would have complete power and be able to pass it to whichever red team woman needed it. Smart, but a dangerous strategy to get there. In the end, the whiney red team girl Kai manages to get her plate on the stack last and comes out with a free pass and ton of extra calories. I hope it was all worth it.

After completing the temptation challenge Kim has another sit down pep talk with her red team, only this time she manages to keep it together for the most part, at least long enough to get her point across. She talks about her life, how she was an airforce brat that moved around a lot and how she has body image issues and “fat days”, believe it or not. Rightly so, she cracks a joke about herself being self concious, since she has nothing to be self concious about. In the end, her pep talk seems to work and it looks like the red team are back on track again. As much as they can be, at least.

Biggest Loser Immunity Challenge

  • Each team lines up in a row on the escalator of doom
  • The escalator kicks into gear going the opposite direction in which the teams are facing
  • The contestants must walk uphill against the escalator for as long as possible
  • The winning team scores immunity, and the last person standing earns themselves $10,000 in cold hard cash. Sweet bonus!

Brian, unfortunately, is forced to sit out, due to a bumed leg injury that still isn’t in good enough shape for him to compete in this kind of challenge.

The first person to give up, surprisingly is Ken, as he rolls his way off the escalator. Next out is Erik, followed shorty by Melinda. A short time later Wylie drops off, followed by Kai, bobby, amy and heather. That leaves only Pam and Marty in the final two, and they both look pretty rough at this point. Rightly so, this is a brutal task. In the end, Pam manages to power through all the pain and comes out on top the biggest loser immunity challenge winner and $10,000 richer, but not before getting off the escalator, flopping on the floor and very nearly blacking out. Liek the good man that he is, Marty congratulates Pam and gives her a hug for kicking ass. He seemed almost as surprised as I was when she won. That girl really toughed it out, I have to give it to her.

Everyone breaks into last chance workout mode, getting right to work, and you know what that means:

Biggest Loser Weigh In Ceremony

Red, having won the immunity challenge, gets to pick someone to sit out of the weigh in and they pick Marty. Nooooooo! Great choice on red’s part, but that so sucks! I want blue to win! On to the results:

Blue Team

  • 315lbs – Marty (down 7lbs)
  • 261lbs – Brian (down 9lbs)
  • 223lbs – Amy (down 4lbs)
  • 358lbs – Erik (down 6lbs)
  • 277lbs – Bobby (down 5lbs)
  • 209lbs – Melinda (down 2lbs)
  • Total Weight Loss: 26lbs (1.92%)

Red Team

  • 221lbs – Pam (down 5lbs)
  • 264lbs – Wylie (down 5lbs)
  • 228lbs – Kai (down 5lbs)
  • 196lbs – Heather (down 5lbs)
  • 307lbs – Ken (down 10lbs)
  • Total Weight Loss: 30lbs (3.41%)

Red manages to come out on top again. I hate to say it, but they really managed to turn themselves around in this episode and get things rocking. To bad I still don’t like them. And, of course, since the red team won the weigh in, that sends the blue to to the dreaded:

Biggest Loser Elimination Ceremony:

  1. Brian votes for Melinda
  2. Amy votes for Melinda
  3. Marty votes for Melinda
  4. Melinda votes for Boddy

After that, Melinda has no chance of winning and is eliminated by default. Of all the people on the blue team, I am glad Melinda is the one to go home. She’s the smallest, has the lowest numbers and, I think, the most likely to be successful at home.

Post Show Update:

Melinda’s been working out, sticking to everything and she’s looking fantastic. After leaving the show she lost an additional 26lbs, making her total weight loss at and outside of the biggest loser ranch, 53lbs. I knew she could do it on her own at home, I’m really looking forward to seeing her overall results at the reunion show.
