body worlds 3

Gunther von Hagens, creator and genius behind the body preservation technique known as plastination, has taken on a new project.

Plastination is a preservation technique developed by Gunther von Hagens that is used to preserve human “specimens” (”see also: bodies”) in their entirety, by replacing all bodily fluids with plastics. Hagens is world renowned for his innovated methods of preservation and is know for his Body Worlds exhibit. Hagens most recent exhibit, Body Worlds 3, is currently in Vancouver BC at Science World, where it will remain until next year.

The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly

Posted by soultrance on Tuesday, October 31, 2006 at 8:26 pm

In the spirit of Halloween, I’ve picked up a few costume videos through-out the day that are prime examples of the Good, the Bad and the Ugly.

The Good:

The Transforming Transformer Costume - This guy/gal made a fully functional original transformers costume. The video shows as she transforms from Autobot to Car and back again. This is one of the best costumes I have seen this year by far, the effort that got put into this one is awesome.

The Bad:

Regis and Kelly do… each other? - Here we have a video montage of various costumes Regis and Kelly have worn. I have to admit, some of them aren’t bad, some of them are even clever, but some of them are just bad. Kelly as Regis, Regis as Kelly, Regis as Simon Cowel, Kelly as Paula Abdul, it’s kind of weird, really.

The Ugly:

The View does Royalty - The View in and of itself is a horrible, horrible thing, so it doesn’t take much to make it worse then it already is, but they succeeded. All the cast members are decked out as different members or the royal family through-out history. Queen Elizabeth, Marie Antoinette, ect. Given, the costumes are really quite nice, but the fact alone who is in them makes them ugly. The best part of this video comes at the end when a snarky comment about the strange lack of Star Jones is made, ha! Star Jones sucks, I’m so happy she’s been out of the media for a while now. Sadly, I just know she’ll be back. She’s like the turd that won’t flush.

Have a great night!

Happy Halloween Everybody!

Enjoy the fireworks, candy, costumes and alcohol, and have a great night!Don’t forget the two most important parts of Halloween in Vancouver:

- It either rains or is freezing cold every Vancouver Halloween, so be ready for both occasions! Though it looks tonight like we’re more in for the blood freezing cold than the rain.

- Only take Apples from strangers, and double check to be sure they come with a special prize in the middle!

Here’s hoping everyone has a fun and safe Halloween!

Survivor Fiji Production Begins: Here’s the Dirt!

Posted by soultrance on Monday, October 30, 2006 at 9:05 pm

Survivor production crews invaded Vunivutu, Fiji earlier this month to begin production on the next installation of the Survivor series, Survivor Fiji.

The 6-week production schedule is estimated to generate roughly $6-million in revenue for the community and Labasa’s economy. The production will create 230 job opportunities for local residents and a drastic increase to the economy as the 250 person production crew will need food, shelter and the essentials.

Prime Minister Laisenia Qarase was on site and launched the official start of the massive 6-week production.

Bill Maher does Steve Irwin for Halloween

Posted by soultrance on Monday, October 30, 2006 at 12:00 am

Just the other day South Park sent Steve Irwin to Hell and the controversy hasn’t stopped yet. Bill Maher, never one to shy away from and easy attention grabbing opportunity, has taken it upon himself to look like even more of a fool. For some stupid reason, while attending a Halloween party recently, he decided to dress up as the late Steve Irwin, complete with stingray barb in the chest, blood and all.

It’s obvious all he wants out of this is attention, and you can bet he’s going to get a whole lot of that. I wonder who will take a stab at Steve Irwin next. He seems to be a pretty hot target right now. I was actually really surprised when South Park did a bit on Steve so quickly after his death, but at the same time it’s expected of Matt Stone and Trey Parker.

Amazing Race 10 Recap & Info: Salt in the Wounds

Posted by soultrance on Sunday, October 29, 2006 at 11:00 pm

Amazing Race 10 - Episode 7

Amazingly enough Dave and Mary managed to come in first place in last weeks episode of the Amazing Race, saving themselves from a 30 minutes penalty and earning themselves a head start for the next leg of the race. The first stop on tonights leg of the race is Mauritius off the eastern cost of Africa. Each team must fly to Mauritius, where they will find a marked car that will contain their next clue.

Dave and Mary are the first team to arrive at Kuwait Airport, where they buy tickets to fly from Kuwait to London, and then from London to Mauritius. The first flight leaves at 8am and arrives in Mauritius at 6am the next morning, one heck of a long and round about way of getting there.

Bill O’Reilly vs Dave Letterman: Round 2

Posted by soultrance on Sunday, October 29, 2006 at 4:10 pm

In case you didn’t know, or didn’t get a chance to watch it, Bill O’Reilly of Fox’s “The O’Reilly Factor” made his second appearance on the David Letterman show on Friday night, and it was a gooder. I never had a chance to watch the first time they met, but I managed to find some clips of it on YouTube and I wish I had seen it.

My favorite line from the whole thing is from Dave when O’Reilly asked him if he wanted the US to win in Iraq or not and called it an easy question. Dave snapped back saying “It’s not easy for me because I’m thoughtful.”

Watch the video of the most recent Letterman vs O’Reilly bout after the jump!

Daylight Savings Time: Fall Back, Fall Back

Posted by Shane on Saturday, October 28, 2006 at 2:03 pm

Head on over to the 2007 version of this post here: Daylight Saving Time.

The last few months have seemingly flown by for me. Work has been keeping me good and busy which likely plays a big part in how fast time is seeming to go by. Halloween is a mere three days away, and you know what that means. This Sunday is the big day for everyone that obeys the rules of daylight savings time to set their clocks back another hour, and everyone knows what that means, an extra hours sleep, yay!

An interesting little tid-bit about this years daylight savings time fall back event comes compliments of the consumerist. Apparently 2006 will be the last year we fall back BEFORE Halloween:

Fall Back Day is Sunday and this here is the very last Halloween that will fall after the end of Daylight Savings Time. Why? The Energy Policy Act of 2005, extends Daylight Savings Time by 4 weeks! The result? An estimated energy savings of 1% nationally.
Source

So don’t forget! Set your clocks back an hour this Sunday, at 2am to be exact. You wouldn’t want to end up showing up for work an hour early, though it could earn you some brownie points with the boss man.

South Park Sends Steve Irwin to Hell

Posted by soultrance on Friday, October 27, 2006 at 9:55 pm

Hell hath no fury like Trey Parker and Matt Stone, the creators of the hit animated TV series, South Park. No one is safe when they start their search for a new target.

A recent episode of South Park featured recently deceased Crocodile Hunter Steve Irwin. Matt and Trey are anything but scared of hitting on touchy subjects, and they sure hit on one here. Steve Irwin’s death was so recent and so tragically unexpected that many South Park viewers are outraged over how quickly Matt and Trey turned their sights on the Crocodile Hunter. Just like Gilbert Gottfried making jokes about 9/11 shortly after the event, many see this targeting of Steve Irwin as coming to soon.

I, personally, don’t think it was that bad. It is awfully soon for them to be going after Irwin already, but they kept it short and didn’t go overboard with the bit. It was a tasteful as tasteful can be on South Park and, to be honest, it wasn’t even that funny by South Park standards. Steve Irwin’s run in with Ross the Intern of the Jay Leno show was a lot funnier in my opinion.

What did you think of the bit? If you haven’t seen it yet, watch it after the jump!
