The Vampire Diaries Season 2 Episode 1

I hadn’t realized The Vampire Diaries was back so soon, until my Tivo reminded me otherwise. We left off in The Vampire Diaries Season 1 Episode 22 with the arrival of Katherine, closely followed by the stabbing of Uncle John. That’s cool. Nobody liked him anyway.

Jeremy’s doing fine. He’s not a vampire in spite of drinking Anna’s blood. Darn. Stefan has a word of warning for him: don’t try to kill yourself because it may kill you. He didn’t take enough pills to die, so Anna’s blood healed him of that little problem.

Caroline’s in the hospital following the accident, and they don’t know if she’ll make it. Damon wants to give her some blood to save her.

Seeing as they made out, Damon would like to talk to Elena about what happened. Only that wasn’t her. Whatever happened, she doesn’t have time for his games. Eventually, he figures out the real scoop.

Katherine is back, and now she’s paying a visit to Stefan. Unlike his brother, he is not fooled. Since Katherine has been invited in and can come and go as she pleases, Damon suggests that Elena can solve this problem by simply selling the house and moving.

As planned and despite the lack of a truce agreement with Bonnie, Damon has given Caroline some blood, and she is awake the next day.

With the mayor dead and his son Tyler having been in an accident because the device affected both of them, the town’s mystery now is why they reacted to it, unless they are vampires.

John is not dead after all, but he does not have any useful information or lack of hatred for Stefan. After Elena leaves the room, Stefan feeds John his blood, warning him to get out of town within 24 hours, or he will be turned into a vampire.

Arriving at Tyler’s house, Katherine now has an invite into a new place to play.

Bonnie’s not fooled by the Katherine in Elena’s clothing either. Her powers may be growing enough to cause Damon a headache, but she’s going to have to do better than that if she wishes to harm Katherine.

Elena is not surprised that Damon would kiss her. She is just surprised that he thought she would kiss back. Harsh.

Since she is the same lying manipulative bitch that she’s always been, Stefan would like for Katherine to just get on with whatever she’s there for, and then leave town or die. Anybody else he feels like driving out of town with the threat of death? She came back for him, but the problem with that is he hates her.

Katherine goes to visit Damon to say goodbye. Well, that would be anticlimactic. She offers a choice: he can either kiss her or kill her. Option 2 it is then. Before they proceed, he has a question. The answer is that the truth is she’s never loved him, just his brother. This is just not Damon’s day with people that look like Elena.

Not one to accept defeat gracefully, Damon goes to try again with Elena, who pretty much tells him the same thing Katherine did. His reaction is to grant Jeremy’s wish, kill him, and make him a vampire. The ring Jeremy’s wearing interferes with that plan, though.

Caroline wakes up to be greeted by Katherine, who wants to send a message to the Salvatore brothers. Game on. Now she’s dead, too.

The Vampire Diaries Season 1 Episode 22

John managed to get his hands on that invention he was seeking in The Vampire Diaries Season 1 Episode 21.

Elena is not Katherine. But she sure looks a lot like her in that 19th century clothing for the recreation of the battle.

Jeremy is defending his uncle for killing Anna’s mom. Kinda. He just wanted revenge on the tomb vampires and vice versa, but Pearl was not among those seeking revenge. Anna’s been thinking. She’s okay with turning Jeremy and running away together. When you’re a vampire, you don’t have to feel. He doesn’t think he can, but he’ll keep her blood around.

Stefan breaks the news to Elena: her uncle is her father. This would be bad news because she hates him.

Damon is very grateful to Bonnie for removing the spell from the device. If only she actually had done so.

According to John, the vampires will be attacking tonight. That makes this an ideal opportunity to use the device, which can only be used once for 5 minutes and will incapacitate any vampire within a 5 block radius.

Seeing as he’s in love with her, Elena would appreciate it if Damon would stop with the flirty little comments and that eye thing he does.

What can Elena do to fix things with Jeremy? Apparently, going to hell would help.

Having been informed of John’s plan, the sheriff says no. Well, John says yes. Case closed, even if he has to knock her out and cuff her.

Anna alerts Damon of the imminent attack. The vampires plan to wipe out the founding families. Damon warns Stefan and Elena. The mayor begs his son Ty, as well as Matt and Caroline, to get out of there.

Shortly thereafter, the device is activated. All the vampires fall in pain because of the noise that only they can hear. So why can Tyler hear it, wrecking his car? The mayor, too, collapses.

Alaric steps in to make sure the cops don’t grab Stefan. Damon and Anna aren’t quite so lucky. Not wanting to wait until she’s burned alive, John stakes Anna. Now would be a good time for Damon to tell the mayor the truth about himself. He’s there because he’s a vampire. What’s the mayor’s excuse? If he’s not a vampire, what the hell is he? Whatever he is, one of the vampires wants to test what snapping his neck will do to him.

Stefan heads into the burning building to save his brother. As her way of apologizing for being a liar, Bonnie makes the flames die down so Damon and Stefan can flee the building while they’re still among the undead. As much as Stefan would like to hate his brother, it’s pointless to try.

Damon returns to Jeremy to tell him Anna’s dead, and he can take his suffering away again. The suffering isn’t going away, though. Damon’s advice is that life sucks whether you’re a vampire or not, but at least vampires don’t have to feel bad about it. That’s enough to convince Jeremy to drink that Anna blood he’s been saving, then overdose on some pain pills.

Matt and Ty walk away from the accident okay, but Caroline is in the hospital.

If Damon spills a drop of innocent blood, Bonnie will take him down. Good luck then. Damon’s got this weird feeling, though. He finds himself wanting to protect the town he once hoped to destroy. Then he kisses his pal Elena.

John’s having a talk with his daughter, wanting to see if he can patch things up with her and get her to not hate him. Alas, he’s really talking to Katherine, who chops off his ring and proceeds to slice and dice. Yeah, that wasn’t the real Elena lip locked with her friend with benefits.

Following its run as The CW’s first success story, The Vampire Diaries season 2 is obviously going to happen this fall.

The Vampire Diaries Season 1 Episode 21

Stefan went all crazy in The Vampire Diaries Season 1 Episode 20, but then as expected decided he’d like to try to live happily ever after. When all was said and done, Isobel decided to come to town.

All Isobel wanted was for Alaric to just mourn her and move on. Two years later, that still hasn’t happened. She’d like him to be her messenger boy, arranging a meeting between herself and her daughter Elena. He’s not going to do anything for this selfish bitch, at least not until she threatens to start killing off his students.

John returns home to find Isobel having fun with a half clothed chick and a gay (but not right now) cowboy. She has decided that John’s failed to get the invention, so she will be taking it from here.

Fearing she will regret not meeting her potentially homicidal mother, Elena agrees to go through with it. The very pleasant mama informs Elena that her father was just a teenage waste of space, and a name is irrelevant. So why did Isobel want to be a vampire anyway? For a long list of reasons, such as how Stefan will not get old and die, whereas Elena will. Enough with the pleasantries. Get the invention from Damon, or the blood will be on her hands. Good day.

Damon joins in on the half clothed fun while waiting for Isobel to get back home. What does she want with this little invention? They’re on the same side: Katherine’s. Katherine wants John to have the device and isn’t very happy if she doesn’t get what she wants. During their little makeout session, Damon has a message to return to Katherine. He does believe in killing the messenger, and if Katherine wants something, she can come get it herself.

Bonnie has decided that Elena’s her friend, and she’s there for her if she needs her.

According to Emily, Jonathan never actually invented anything. Emily used magic to make his inventions work. The device is a weapon to be used against vampires.

Since Caroline won’t stop yapping, she tells Isobel everything she needs to know about Elena’s inner circle. The first victim is Matt, who has a trailer fall on his arm. Then Jeremy disappears. This is going too far even for John, so it’s time to start beating him.

Perhaps Damon will hand over the device if Bonnie can prove she’s able to remove the spell from the device. He can’t trust Bonnie, but he does trust Elena.

Bonnie has successfully turned the device into a mere trinket, which Elena can now give to Isobel. First, where’s the brother? Since Elena has brought vampire bodyguards, she can now call home and find out that Jeremy’s okay. Isobel knew Elena could get the device from Damon because he’s in love with her. After exchanging the invention, they trade their final hateful words.

She may have rescued him, but that’s not going to stop Jeremy from hating Elena for being a liar and having his memory erased.

Alaric tosses aside his ring and vervain. With that aside, Isobel is now free to kill him or compel him. She opts to compel him to move on before saying goodbye.

Stefan’s warning for his brother: history will not be repeating itself where Elena’s concerned. Well, now Damon has a story to tell, as the only one capable of putting 2 and 2 together. John is Elena’s father.

On his doorstep, John has received what he’s been looking for. Katherine wants all those tomb vampires dead, and Isobel wants to add Stefan and Damon to the list, preventing Elena from having this life.

It should come as no surprise that Bonnie pretended to do something she didn’t really do.

Stay tuned to dingoRUE for another live recap of The Vampire Diaries Episode 22 Founder’s Day, which airs Thursday at 8/7c on The CW.

The Vampire Diaries Season 1 Episode 20

Having gone crazy for human blood in The Vampire Diaries Season 1 Episode 19, Stefan found himself caged up by Elena and Damon.

It’s so hard to see him locked up like this, which she could have avoided by not locking him up in the first place.

Stefan is remembering when he and his brother were shot as Katherine was dragged away. Lucky thing he’s wearing his invincibility ring. There’s a catch. When he died, he had Katherine’s blood in his system, since she’s been compelling him to drink it for weeks. Damon, too, has been drinking, albeit willingly. They aren’t vampires yet, but they will be soon enough if they complete the transition by feeding.

Anna’s decided to go through the torture of high school in order to hang out with Jeremy. Good luck with that.

Alaric has been doing some digging on Uncle John. John has been receiving calls from someone, who Alaric believes is Isobel. Sharing this information with Damon, they both decide they don’t trust each other. Alaric tried to kill Damon. To be fair, Damon did kill Alaric. Nonetheless, they’re going to go together to track down Isobel.

John’s question for Elena: what does she think her mother would say if she knew she were dating a vampire?

Stefan just wants it to end, so he doesn’t intend to survive.

Pearl meets John, who plans to change her mind about giving him the device… with his charm.

Alaric would like to not kill anyone tonight, although if that were true he wouldn’t have brought Damon along. Finding the blood in the fridge, they know they have company, a vampire named Henry who was in the tomb.

Elena opts to not be afraid that Stefan could break through the bars and kill her. Taking it a step further, she unlocks the cell, daring him to do his worst if he pleases.

John has been helping Henry out. Henry doesn’t know an Isobel, but he helps keep an eye on the others from the tomb. When Henry gets a call from John, Damon grabs the phone. Is he going to answer that? Nope, they’re going to kill Henry.

John’s idea of charm is to pretend that Jonathan loved Pearl, then tell her that he hated her and wanted to be the one to drive a stake to her heart. So much for the pleasantries. She gave the device to Damon. With that, may John rot in Hell.

Stefan’s father was there to see his sons get shot. He pulled the trigger himself. Well, Stefan had decided to not complete the transition and just die, until his father’s blood started spilling when he tried to kill him for a second time.

Alaric doesn’t want to waste any more of his life searching for answers that he really doesn’t want.

Pearl has decided to leave. Too much history. It’s Anna’s decision if she wants to stick around for the boy.

Elena blames Damon for making it his life’s mission to make Stefan’s life miserable.

Back to the past, Stefan has brought his brother a present, a girl to feed on so he, too, can complete his transition. After hearing this story, Elena goes downstairs, where she discovers Stefan is now missing.

Waiting for Jeremy when he wakes up, Anna’s just there to say goodbye.

Emily sensed that Stefan’s heart is pure, even in death. That will be his curse.

For all the drama to the contrary, the conclusion is obvious. Stefan has decided he’s got an unlife to live.

Harper is going with Pearl, or at least he would be if she weren’t just shot through the heart while exiting her house. Anna returns home to find both of them on the ground.

Damon hated Stefan, and he still does. Not because he forced him to turn. Rather, because Katherine turned him, too. It was just supposed to be Damon.

Sitting at the bar, Alaric turns around. There’s Isobel.

Stay tuned to dingoRUE for another live recap of The Vampire Diaries Episode 21 Isobel, which airs Thursday at 8/7c on The CW.

The Vampire Diaries Season 1 Episode 19

As much as he would try to fight it, Stefan was unable to resist his urge for blood in The Vampire Diaries Season 1 Episode 18. The brothers also found out there was another ring, which belongs to Elena’s creepy Uncle John.

Unlike before when he was opposed to the idea, Stefan’s now got himself a trunk full of blood. The hospital inventory records were altered, although the guy who did it did not remember altering them.

Anna stops by to apologize to Damon for nearly getting his brother killed. The other vampires are all gone. It’s just her, her mother, and Harper. With that information, Damon now knows who the blood bank culprit is.

The girls signed up for Miss Mystic Falls a while back. Elena and Caroline have both made the cut.

John is seeking an invention, which can now be retrieved since the vampires are free. Does the name Pearl ring a bell to Damon? Not convinced John can help him, Damon goes to Anna. Whatever this invention is, he doesn’t want John to have it.

Jonathan Gilbert left behind even more journals, which are locked away. He was writing all his life.

Damon warns Elena that Stefan’s drinking human blood. Because he’s spent all this time fighting it rather than learning to control it, he’s unstable at best.

With Stefan off going insane, Damon is Elena’s only choice to fill in for the dance that she and Stefan had learned. Could be worse. While they’re doing that, Stefan’s making a decision, a decision that he will drink human blood straight from the source. The chick he’s with totally doesn’t mind that he’s trying to kill her because he told her not to be afraid. So now he wants her to run and be afraid. Be very afraid.

After Caroline is crowned Miss Mystic Falls, they realize that Amber is missing. The screaming may lead someone to them. That someone is luckily Damon, Bonnie, and Elena. At least the authorities don’t arrive until after the bite mark evidence is gone.

John has learned some useful information. Jeremy’s friend Anna has a mother named Pearl. Speaking of, they meet with Damon to discuss what Pearl stole. Now it’s his, though he’ll need to figure out what it is on his own. They’d like to stay in town, and this offering is an apology.

Stefan’s gonna be okay. Once Elena and Damon lock him up anyway.

Stay tuned to dingoRUE for another live recap of The Vampire Diaries Episode 20 Blood Brothers, which airs Thursday at 8/7c on The CW.

The Vampire Diaries Season 1 Episode 18

Stefan was busted out from the vampire lair by Damon in The Vampire Diaries Season 1 Episode 17, then Jeremy found out Vicki is not really still amongst the living.

Having drunk Elena’s blood, Stefan’s now putting himself through detox. Damon wants to know why he can’t just grab some blood from a blood bank. It’s not as if he’s killing anybody.

Uncle John arrives at the house. Jenna wants him to pretend to be sensitive, seeing as Jeremy just found out that his friend is dead rather than undead. It seems nobody likes this guy.

Vicki’s death has been officially ruled a drug overdose.

John is there to go meet with the sheriff and her posse. A hospital blood bank has reported break ins recently. Nothing’s been solved, and their problems are not over.

While preparing to get busy with Elena, Stefan’s face goes funny, and he flings himself off a wall. Until the cravings go away, his best plan is to be drunk.

Jeremy’s curious if there’s any more information about Vicki. Her body was buried. Dead people don’t typically do that to themselves.

It seems there’s a thin line between fun drunk Stefan and potentially psychopathic drunk Stefan.

Damon may have everybody else fooled, but John knows he’s not just a vampire but the one who set all the others free. Time to snap his neck.

Tyler has decided to hook up with Matt’s mom at the founders party. The kissing is interrupted by punching. With the ensuing bleeding, Stefan opts for a taste.

As for Uncle John, he doesn’t look so dead after all. He’s got a ring on his finger.

After the party, the guy Damon made apologize to Elena for being a jerk is looking to pick a fight. There’s a stupid idea. At least he only gets knocked out rather than eaten.

Searching for answers, Jeremy breaks into Elena’s room to read her diary.

Ty’s father hits his son, with a message that he won’t embarrass the family again.

Matt wants his mom out of his house and life by morning.

John and his brother both inherited their rings. His brother gave him his, so he gave one to Isobel, who in turn gave it to Alaric. Of course he knew Isobel. He’s the one who sent her to Damon when she wanted to become a vampire.

Although he doesn’t want to get too close, Elena has decided she’s not afraid that her boyfriend may be a lunatic.

When Damon goes to bed, he leaves his blood on the table, just in case his brother would like to partake. That would be a yes.

Stay tuned to dingoRUE for another live recap of The Vampire Diaries Episode 19 Miss Mystic Falls, which airs Thursday at 8/7c on The CW.

The Vampire Diaries Season 1 Episode 17

While Stefan and Damon were busy finding out they’re not the only vampires in town in The Vampire Diaries Season 1 Episode 16, Jeremy decided he wanted to join their fun and be turned by Anna.

Anna tells Jeremy that he shouldn’t believe anything he reads about vampires. So why does he want to be a vampire anyway? Because…

Frederick’s plan is to kill everybody. Pearl suggests that maybe that’s not the best plan.

Stefan goes out for some food of the non-soccer mom vareity, and he’s promptly stabbed by Frederick, who kidnaps him and takes him back to their lair. They intend to torture him for a while before they kill him. After stabbing him a few more times, they tie him up with vervain soaked ropes. Harper disagrees with these tactics, but he’s told that Ms. Pearl is no longer in charge.

Elena and Damon go to Alaric. If he helps, the woman in charge may be able to help find his wife.

Jeremy’s come up with a reason why he wants to be a vampire. He doesn’t fit and doesn’t have anything else. That’s all he needs is an eternity like that. Anna’s response is that she doesn’t need him to do her dirty work, doesn’t want revenge, isn’t bored, and doesn’t love him. Not just yet anyway.

Pearl and Anna meet Mayor Lockwood. Maybe they will stick around at the restaurant for a while.

Damon doesn’t want to be distracted by concerns for Elena’s safety, and he insists she does not go with them.

Caroline insists on going out in the middle of a terrible rainstorm that’s washed out Route 5. She’s one of those people who, rather than pay attention to the road during potentially dangerous driving situations, hops on her cell phone to chat and get distracted. Shortly after her phone reception dies, she gets stuck in the mud.

Alaric pretends his car broke down. He’d like to use the phone. They invite him in with plans to kill him. Alaric escorts Ms. Gibbons outside to Damon. He confirms she doesn’t have any family or anyone else living there. That’s sufficient for her to die. Now it’s free for anyone to enter. This is a surprise to Alaric, who expected him to compel her, rather than snapping her neck.

As Pearl and the mayor are discussing how his family owns a lot of property, much of which they came into in 1864, she sees a boy smiling more than she’d like at her daughter. That would be a Gilbert, the people responsible for trapping her for 150 years.

Not one to follow instructions, Elena leaves the car to go check out the situation at the house. She heads to the basement, where she’s lucky Damon is there to ask her if she’s insane.

Wandering around in the downpour, Caroline slips and falls and then slips some more.

Since her mom is angry at her for hanging out with Jeremy, Anna decides she’ll turn him.

Elena and Damon free Stefan. They leave Harper tied up but alive. Then the real battle begins as Damon heads inside to kill some more vampires and confront Frederick. In the melee, Frederick flees. Damon might want to hurry because he’s after Stefan. Luckily he misses the heart (so it can be assumed) before Elena stops him.

Following their time inside killing off the vampires that are there, Damon and Alaric head outdoors, where they see more vampires than they want to deal with, so they head back inside.

Caroline shows up at Matt’s door with the sheriff. Jeremy finds out from the mayor that they’ve found Vicki, or at least her body. This death thing is news to him.

Elena’s not going to just let Stefan lie there, so she offers him her wrist.

Alaric has realized something: the part about being able to find his wife, that was just a lie. Pearl shows up in time to prevent any further bloodshed. Within the house anyway. A deranged Stefan fully charged on human blood eliminates Frederick.

Now that he knows Vicki’s not a vampire, Jeremy seems to have lost interest in turning. He just wanted to be with her.

Stay tuned to dingoRUE for another live recap of The Vampire Diaries Episode 18 Under Control, which airs Thursday at 8/7c on The CW.

The Vampire Diaries Season 1 Episode 16

Elena began the hunt for Isobel, her mother who also happens to be Alaric’s wife, in The Vampire Diaries Season 1 Episode 15.

Matt would appreciate it if his mom Kelly wouldn’t bring the party home, and so would the neighbors. She might also consider getting a job. What she won’t consider is pretending to be nice to Caroline.

Anna’s showing her new vampire friends how to use cell phones and switch the TV channel.

Caroline suggests a double date. Stefan thinks that sounds like a great idea. He’s probably alone in that.

Since no invitation is necessary due to the lack of a living resident, Anna’s easily able to get into Damon’s home. If he agrees to help out Pearl and the other vampires, he can get what he wants most: Katherine. Plus he gets to live, so to speak.

Jeremy wants serious answers to questions about how to become and/or kill a vampire. So he goes in a chat room. Somehow, he does seem to manage to find someone to help.

Nursing his wounded eyes from Pearl’s fingers gouging them, Damon heads to a bar, where he meets Kelly and Jenna. They decide that drinking is good for the soul. This happens to be the same place Matt, Caroline, Elena, and Stefan decide to go for their oh so awkward double date.

Frederick’s tired of the rules. He decides to go into town. Nobody there knows him anyway, except for the Salvatore brothers.

Anna goes to visit Jeremy. She’s thinking of going back to school. Speaking of which, he’d like to do another paper on the vampires from Mystic Falls. His theory is that maybe they’re normal and good.

Frederick recognizes Elena, or at least he thinks he does. She’s not Katherine, and alerts Stefan by typing a warning on her phone.

Matt and Stefan are getting along just fine now, but that’s not doing Caroline any favors, as she increasingly regrets having suggested this double date.

As Damon’s interest in his visit to Cougartown increases, Jenna takes that as her cue to leave. Stepping outside, she meets Frederick, and she tells him where Damon lives. His pick up line falls on deaf ears thanks to the vervain.

While making a sandwich, Jeremy “accidentally” slices his hand with the knife. Anna shies away, but he invites her to go ahead and drink his blood.

Matt asks whether he passed the double date test. No, not really, but knowing that it was a test should earn him an acceptable grade. After their chat, Caroline seems to be somewhat over her issues. When they return home, new issues are waiting when they run into Damon and Kelly making out.

Before Stefan can give Damon a lecture, Frederick barges in and attacks. His unsuccessful attack gets him nowhere, but it does let Damon and Stefan know that some of those in the tomb are out.

Anna’s waiting for Jeremy in his room. He can’t tell anyone about her. He’d be surprised who would believe him. So why didn’t she kill him? Whatever the reason, he’d like her to make him a vampire.

Stay tuned to dingoRUE for another live recap of The Vampire Diaries Episode 17 Let the Right One in, which airs Thursday at 8/7c on The CW.
