Zoey 101 Safe (for Now), Despite Jamie Lynn Spears Pregnancy

Despite Jamie Lynn Spears’ pregnancy, Nickelodeon will continue to run Zoey 101 in its normal timeslot. The network is not as of yet commenting on the future of the show, but it is weighing its options as to how to proceed, reports Variety.

While the show has finished shooting, it is unclear whether the network will continue to be interested in airing the show as scheduled due to the potential controversy.

Nickelodeon said in a statement, “We respect Jamie Lynn’s decision to take responsibility in this sensitive and personal situation. We know this is a very difficult time for her and her family, and our primary concern right now is for Jamie Lynn’s well being.”

Leno, Conan Returning in January

After two months of repeats, The Tonight Show with Jay Leno and Late Night with Conan O’Brien will resume broadcasting new episodes beginning Wednesday, January 2, 2008.

“During the 1988 writers strike, Johnny Carson reluctantly returned to ‘The Tonight Show’ without his writers after two months. Both Jay and Conan have supported their writers during the first two months of this WGA strike and will continue to support them. However, there are hundreds of people who will be able to return to work as a result of Jay’s and Conan’s decision,” said Rick Ludwin, Executive Vice President, Late Night & Primetime Series.

Jimmy Kimmel has also announced a return on January 2 on ABC.

Meanwhile, David Letterman is trying to cut a deal with the WGA on his own, which some suggest could lead to similar deals if successful.

ABC is considering putting reruns of Grey’s Anatomy in either the Thursday or Friday at 8:00 timeslot, as well as possibly putting Lost reruns in the Thursday time slot leading up to the new episodes.

Thanks to much shuffling and rescheduling, as well as some shows like Lost that have been waiting in the wings, the midseason scheduling will allow for mostly first run episodes. Most of the shows that aren’t expected to repeat well have been pulled from the lineup but may make their way to Friday nights.

No Directors Guild Talks Until 2008

As the writers strike continues with no apparent end any time soon, many have been wondering what directors will do. The combination of pressure from the writers and from writer-directors (who are members of both guilds) has caused the Directors Guild of America to move its talks into the new year, reports Show Tracker.

In response to the talks between writers and studios that broke down last week, the DGA stated, “We are deeply disappointed by the breakdown … Like everyone else in the industry, we had hoped that the two parties would be able to reach a fair and reasonable deal.”

The directors’ contract expires June 30.

Strike Talks Halted

There had been various degrees of optimism from time to time, but it looks like it will be a long cold winter. Variety reports that strike talks have been called off, with no indication of when they will resume.

The AMPTP accused the WGA of a strategy of stalling negotiations rather than trying to reach a deal. “Their Quixotic pursuit of radical demands led them to begin this strike, and now has caused this breakdown in negotiations,” the AMPTP asserted. “We hope that the WGA will come back to this table with a rational plan that can lead us to a fair and equitable resolution to a strike that is causing so much distress for so many people in our industry and community.”

The WGA doesn’t believe they are being offered a fair share of the new media pie. “The AMPTP insists we let them do to the Internet what they did to home video,” said John Bowman, WGA negotiating chairman. “We received a similar ultimatum through back channels prior to the discussions of November 4th. At that time, we were assured that if we took DVDs off the table, we would get a fair offer on new media issues. That offer never materialized.”
