The Apprentice Season 10 Episode 5

Tyana kept going on and on about how much she hated what her team was doing in The Apprentice Season 10 Episode 4, but she was unable to either provide a solution or stop being negative, resulting in her own firing.

Mahsa’s return does not thrill her own team, nor the opposing team.

Wade will be the project manager this week. For real this time?

The task is to present a fashion show for Rockport’s key buyers. A fashion show? For shoes? Men will present the women’s line; women will present the men’s line. This has the potential to serve as a distraction to both teams.

Executive search consultants Catherine Roman and Juan Betancourt are the advisors for this task. So the only Trump we will have to worry about this week is Donald.

As planned, Wade has stepped up to the plate this time. For the women, Stephanie will lead.

Stephanie assigns Kelly to be in charge of the creative side, and Poppy and Liza will assist her. Mahsa will keep them on time. Brandy will be the MC. They come up with a concept of a day in the life. Opting to push the envelope, they decide they want the men to be as unclothed as possible for the finale of the show.

Anand and Steuart are assigned to work with their models. Gene volunteers to be the MC, and David wants to be the co-MC. This is a big concern for everybody else because David could easily blow it for the team as a presenter.

Wade calls Catherine Roman a “so called headhunter.” I hope he didn’t say anything like that to her face. Neither of the advisors offer any particular useful comments about how the teams are doing.

The girls opt to take just one model with them on their shopping trip to prevent chaos. Anand and Steuart, however, are thrilled to be hanging out with 8 models for the afternoon.

Poppy returns from shopping with one pair of briefs. Stephanie is not pleased. She wants her softcore ending and is not shy about expressing that Poppy is incompetent.

Brandy rehearses her runway show. During this, Liza gets concerned about one of the models having scabs on his legs, which she wants covered up.

Although the other team had planned to rehearse, Gene is not even close to ready, and David makes sure to repeatedly rip into him during the rehearsal for it. Better off just not bothering wasting time here.

Once we get to go time, the women seem to do quite well with their presentation. Let’s see what impact the finale has. They oil up a bunch of men in their underpants and send them back out. One of the men has his arms folded, apparently embarrassed to be part of this dispaly.

Unlike Brandy, Gene, who claimed to have experience doing this, does not seem at all comfortable handling the MC work, stumbling over his words. It gets worse when he mixes up the name of the shoe with the name of the model. Not wanting to be part of this any more, David walks off stage. Wade’s closing thought: unless the women sent naked men out on stage, the men have blown this task. Oh wait, they did.

The women all thought Brandy did an excellent job. Trump agrees.

Although it was clear to everybody else about the guy with the scabby knees who for some reason was the one chosen to wear shorts, neither Stephanie nor Kelly noticed.

Trump’s not going to waste time discussing this any further. Aside from that one relatively minor complaint, and ignoring the fact that the women unnecessarily decided to take the risk of having their models in their underpants, he awards the landslide victory to the women rather than the men, who had an atrocious presentation. As the winning project manager, Stephanie will meet with the CEO of Rockport.

At the end of the day, this comes down to presentation. All the other details and who was or was not project manager was irrelevant. Brandy was awesome, while Gene bombed and David was of no help to him.

Gene believes that Wade was a good project manager, probably not the best thing to say considering that Gene’s going to be heading back to the boardroom with him in a few minutes.

Trump’s suggestion was to pick Steuart and Anand because they were smoother guys. While there is some logic to this, it’s not as if Gene or David would have fit in well in the fashion part of the task either. He doesn’t get why Wade didn’t test David or Gene. Guess what: nobody tested Brandy, and it went great. If Wade should be fired, so should Stephanie. Granted, the women at least had a rehearsal, but by that point, it’s too late to switch things up. As much grief as Trump wants to give Wade about this, it’s a stupid thought process with a desire merely to produce drama because there is nothing else to discuss here. It all boils down to Gene’s presentation, or lack thereof.

The only thing the executives liked from the men was the outfits, which again Gene and David would not have had a clue about.

David says that Steuart did not volunteer to be the MC because he wants to harass women. Wait. What? Harass? While he has a valid point when he specifies what he means, harass, really?

Gene will take responsibility for the fact that his performance could have been better. If Trump wants to fire him, go right ahead. Alright, Gene, you’re fired.

Oh, and Wade, you’re fired, too. Trump is an ass. Stupid stunt firings killed this show the first time around. Not that Wade was going to win anyway, but now is not his time to go.

Gene has since started his own company and is building a technologically advanced assisted living facility. Wade says his reputation in the real estate market has improved significantly.

The Apprentice Season 10 Episode 4

David became an even more incompetent ass in The Apprentice Season 10 Episode 3, but that was not enough for him to be fired. Instead, James, who does not make good TV, was fired.

During the boardroom, Steuart called David out for his tantrum in front of the client. David’s angry with him, too. He doesn’t plan to take this well. Shocking considering how well he seems to take everything else.

Clint already made up his mind to be the next project manager, regardless of Wade claiming he was going to step up. Wade quickly backs down.

In addition to meeting with Russell Simmons, Tyana is rewarded with a $10,000 gift card from Calvin Klein, which apparently makes more than just underpants.

Popcorn Indiana is one of the biggest and brightest popcorn companies, or so Trump tells us. The task is to create a guerrilla marketing stunt made into a video. The winner of the task will have the video with the best potential to go viral. Don’t these companies get that you can’t force a video to go viral? To assist them, they will meet Charlie Todd, who apparently creates viral videos.

For the women, Mahsa will be the project manager. She plans to be bossy. Shouldn’t be a big step.

Tyana is not onboard with any plans the women have, although she does not have anything but vague suggestions herself. Eventually, they settle on the concept of somebody eating popcorn while working out, to which she rolls her eyes.

Liza, Tyana, and Poppy are sent shopping by Mahsa because she doesn’t think they’re contributing much.

The men are considering a popcorn fight. Wade asks: what about the children? They shouldn’t be watching people get hit with bags of popcorn.

David says he thinks he’s going to lose a tooth on a bagel. So he keeps eating it. Eventually, half of his tooth comes out. Who does the catering for this show? He’ll be missing yet another task. Steuart doesn’t get why he has to go to the dentist right then and there rather than waiting until the task is done tomorrow. Can’t say I disagree. He could go to any drug store and grab some Dentemp. It’s a back tooth, so it’s not as if it interferes with any sort of presentation they may have to do.

When the shoppers return, Mahsa assigns them to take flip cameras and record. Tyana takes this as a way for Mahsa to have something to pin on them. Let me get this straight. Her assigning you to do a task… that’s all about her trying to set you up? What do you want to do, sit on the sidelines? We all know this chick is going back to the boardroom regardless. It’s not as if she’s contributing anything.

Ivanka doesn’t see how the men’s video will catch on, although it could possibly be funny. It looks like their concept is probably a ball for anybody participating in it, but as a watcher, I don’t see the appeal. At the end of the day, Wade still says this is too much for children to handle. Oy.

Don Jr. believes Mahsa looks like a director, but perhaps she’s taking perhaps too much control, leaving people like Tyana and Liza without much to do. After they’re done shooting, Tyana says they should do something different. She’s still not onboard and doesn’t plan on getting onboard or even pretending to be part of the team.

Charlie thinks that the women’s video is funny, but maybe they didn’t go far enough with it. As for the men, that made him laugh. Something exciting was happening, although it was a little violent. Whoever ends up winning this task, their video’s not going viral.

Anand calls Clint a breath of fresh air.

Wade will be stepping up to be project manager next week. Oh, this story again.

Steuart thinks they had an excellent team. Trump pushes the issue. He means without David? Well, David wasn’t there, if that answers the question.

It’s not going to take pulling teeth to get Tyana to say before the results are revealed that she doesn’t like the video. Mahsa quickly speaks up to say that, if they lose, Tyana should be fired for her weakness. Win or lose, Mahsa does not plan on taking these comments back. Tyana thinks they lost. There’s the confidence I’ve been looking for. She quite enjoys the men’s video, though, and Mahsa’s response to that is that Tyana’s evil. Wow.

The executive loved that the men’s video made him laugh out loud and that it was really an event. However, the brand’s tagline was hard to hear, and it was a bit violent.

On the other side, he thought the women’s idea was clever. The cons: it was kind of contrived, not necessarily guerrilla, and didn’t really go far enough.

In the end, the men win the challenge. Tyana agrees with this decision, but Wade still won’t be showing it to his children. As Clint’s reward, he will meet with Steve Forbes.

Mahsa’s defense is that she did everything by herself. They lost. Shouldn’t she be fired then?

Stephanie would fire Tyana. She may not have agreed with the concept, but she also wasn’t useful in changing it. Brandy agrees. Don’t come to her with problems unless you have a solution.

Liza would fire Tyana. Hmm, didn’t see that coming. Kelly agrees. Tyana checked out rather than at least trying to help. Poppy falls in line with everybody else.

But Don Jr. has a question. Is Tyana the reason they lost the task? No. But she didn’t do anything that would have contributed to a win either.

Tyana and Liza will be returning to the boardroom.

For all of Tyana’s talk, she didn’t have any ideas to fix the situation either. Tyana has been fired. Since leaving the show, Tyana has decided she wants to stay in the real estate business.

The Apprentice Season 10 Episode 3

Alex’s failure to sell led to his demise in The Apprentice Season 10 Episode 2, and he was fired. I never get why people come on this show without being salespeople.

Back in the suite, Liza’s in the process of having her meltdown, alienating everybody on her team. If they didn’t like her before, they’re going to like her even less now. She says that her personality just needs to come out. Scratch that. Reverse it. I’ve seen enough of her personality.

Meanwhile, James is wary of the guys attacking him, but he is being professional about it, rather than throwing a hissy fit.

For her reward as the winning project manager, Poppy gets to meet with Jack Welch, who is on the show to promote his online business school, where you can earn an MBA online for $20k. This is Poppy’s gift at no cost to her.

Each team will run a hotel and spa… for dogs. They will be judged on the execution, creativity and sustainability of the value they add, and the overall experience. They will be judged by the hotel owners and Cesar Millan, who Ivanka tells us is a world famous dog whisperer.

James will be the project manager for the men. David, who gets more asslike every week, hopes to lose the task based on his hatred for James. Tyana will be the PM for the women.

As a dog lover, Wade comes up with the idea of having a webcam to update people on the status of their dogs.

Mahsa is afraid of dogs. She’s never had a pet, so she would like to be at the front desk. As if she’s good with people. Tyana would prefer to be at the front desk because she’s Miss Cougar California (I don’t want to meet the people who awarded her that title). Her task, her decision. Now Mahsa, who was on her side not long ago when they were trying to get rid of the same person, believes this decision is based on Tyana being a jealous cow.

In their meeting with the spa owner, David feels he’s being ignored, so he believes this would be an appropriate time to throw a tantrum and start swearing. In front of one of the task’s judges. James warns him he’s going to be benched if he keeps doing this, and he drags him out of the room to give him a lecture.

The women have decided to offer a gift bag and a report card on the dog’s day.

Wade has been assigned to decorate the entrance, which he is not happy with because he believes he has the most dog experience.

When the owner returns to meet with the men again, James asks him to wait for them for a couple minutes. He didn’t seem to like that request, though he complied.

Don Jr’s visit is Mahsa’s first chance to take a stab at her project manager. He agrees that her fear of dogs does not make her placement in the back with the dogs a wise move.

Ivanka greets James to find him fumbling over her words.

David, Wade, and Gene are back from their shopping trip. Their red carpet for the entrance? It’s green. They also don’t have any nails with them. Dave believes he can turn binder clips into nails. He also tells James to shut up. With that said, does anybody else know how to set up a webcam? Dave can leave now. This is why you’re unemployed.

Liza has spent the day designing the graphics, and as a result has not had any time to train on any of the stations. 15 minutes before the deadline, they call to say they can’t open the files. For all the drama this causes, they still get what they need done.

Cesar is pleased with Tyana’s energy. However, he’s not as impressed with Mahsa, who seems to have been set up for failure anyway.

For the men, Cesar sees a different story. Too many people want to run the show and step on James’ toes. He loves the webcam idea, though.

Trump gets his best question of the way first. What does David think of James? Oh, here we go. David still believes it’s justifiable to tell his boss to shut up, which is blatant insubordination.

Needless to say, Mahsa does not believe Tyana was a good leader.

Stephanie believes Liza is the weakest player. She didn’t like being called that last week, and she gets emotional again. At least she’s not calling anybody a bitch this week.

The judges loved what the women did, and the men have lost. For her reward, Tyana will meet with Russell Simmons of Def Jam.

The negative feedback from the judges centered around the negative energy of the team, which was obvious to everybody who was watching. They also felt they were so focused on the execution that they failed to understand the business.

Anand calls James a poor leader, and nobody respects him.

David and Wade are coming back to the boardroom. David is an obvious choice. Wade is being brought back for being content to stay in the background, which is an odd statement because he would have liked to have been given more responsibility.

Don Jr. suggests that maybe James’ problem is that he’s an elitist.

Wade would fire James. If James is fired, he will be project manager, and he will be able to manage the hothead.

Because he was the reason for the loss, James is fired. I wouldn’t call this an unfair decision, but David clearly cannot work with people. As James is leaving, Wade tells him not to let the door hit him in the ass, to which James just shakes his head. Great, another person with a chip on his shoulder who doesn’t know how to control his emotions. Is there anybody competent on this show? Since leaving the show, James has started working at the New York Attorney General’s office.

Stay tuned to dingoRUE for another live recap of The Apprentice Season 10 Episode 4, which airs Thursday at 10/9c on NBC.

The Apprentice Season 10 Episode 2

Nicole was the first casualty in The Apprentice Season 10 Episode 1. I’m still not clear why. Trump kept saying she was a great leader, but he fired her anyway, apparently because she dared to take the risk of being the first project manager, something none of the other women were interested in doing.

The women are very excited to see Tyana and Mahsa return. I can’t imagine why.

David, a big risk to be a loose cannon, has volunteered to be the project manager for the men this week, before finding out what the task is. It turns out to be an ice cream selling task. Poppy will be the leader for the women. Dave is confident because he has sold for years, but Poppy has never sold anything.

James hoped to fly under the radar, but he realizes that location will be a large part of this task. Since he is from New York, he volunteers to pick out the location. Mahsa is assigned to location on the other side. Liza, who’s not very good at sales, is in charge of the accounting. Anybody who knows her in real life knows she’s not an accounting kind of person either.

The day starts off at 9:30 (for the guys anyway… the women show up half an hour later). Not the most prime of ice cream selling times.

James doesn’t like the hard selling or the lack of a plan. He’ll be happy to go on a trip to the costume store to get himself away from selling.

Liza is trying to offer people discounts. Stephanie hates this. She would prefer to stick to the $5 price tag no matter what. With that, she needs Poppy to put her foot down. It’s clear that Stephanie believes she is the PM on this task.

David has decided that Alex is the puppy dog of the team. You can’t put a puppy in front of people in NYC and expect them to sell ice cream. So why not assign him to an alternate task?

The women have moved a couple times before settling on a spot they think is working really well. That spot happens to be the same spot that the men abandoned earlier in the day. They opt to move elsewhere. As the afternoon progresses, things start to slow down for the women. When Don Jr. arrives, the biggest flaw he sees is that they are 20 yards from probably the biggest subway stop in the city, but they don’t have anybody working the entrance or exit.

The men have chosen a lower price of $3, and their new location is a park, a contrast to Union Square. They are relying on Steuart and Anand for their sales efforts.

Stephanie continues to be the bulldog. Poppy is just letting her run over her and everyone else.

For day 2, the men have decided to go back to Union Square, in spite of their lack of success the day before. Once again, the men show up more than half an hour before the women, who are surprised to find that the men are in their spot when they arrive. Rather than bow out gracefully and accept the fact that they need to stop sleeping in every day, they decide to set up right next to the men, which at best should merely serve as a way to decrease the sales of both teams.

Eventually, the women realize this was a silly mistake, and they decide to move to the park.

George sees a lot of aggressive activity from the men, which is exactly what is needed to sell ice cream in New York City.

Toward the end of the day, Tyana comes up with an idea. Take their last ice creams and give them away right in front of the boys’ truck. While this will harm the sales the guys can do, it’s not doing anything for the women either. I can’t imagine Trump will be impressed.

Poppy does not want to say who her weakest player is. Trump’s going to make her say a name, though. That name would be Liza, who was not good at sales. Brandy would fire Liza given the choice between her and Poppy. So Trump says “Liza, you’re fired.” Nope. Just kidding. Really?

Liza says that the whole task was run by Stephanie. However, if they lose, he should fire Poppy.

Mahsa would not fire Poppy.

David calls Alex and James the weakest players. Alex takes too much management. James overthinks everything.

Gene would fire James. Wade agrees.

One team made $1500 in profit. The other team made $1800. That team was not the men. The women win, and for her reward, Poppy will meet Jack Welch.

Do we really even need to go through the formalities of the next few minutes? It’s already clear that David will bring James and Alex back with him.

When the women get back to the suite, Poppy thanks everybody for doing a great job, and that’s why she struggled to name names when Trump made her say who the weak link was. Liza’s response, “Don’t even friggen look at me, bitch.” Somebody has issues.

David is not even going to consider bringing anybody else back. Everybody but James and Alex rocked out loud. If that were so, they should have been more successful.

James believes that Alex is the weakest player on the team, but David made some critical errors. He doesn’t care who gets fired as long as it’s not him. Dave is on the same page. And by the way, he has 5 children, for those who haven’t gotten the message yet.

Since he sold the least and really isn’t saying much, Alex is fired. Since leaving the show, he has gotten a job in construction management.

Stay tuned to dingoRUE for another live recap of The Apprentice Season 10 Episode 3, which airs Thursday at 10/9c on NBC.

The Apprentice Season 10 Episode 1

With some holes in NBC’s schedule following Leno’s demise, The Apprentice is back in spite of itself for a tenth season, this time without any celebrities. The Apprentice Season 10 cast consists of 16 contestants who have been impacted by the state of the economy. They’re all struggling to make ends meet, which makes you wonder what they’re really bringing to the table as people who are supposed to be the best of the best.

David says he lost his job and, as a result, his wife. His goal is to bring his family back together. Don’t bother with the gold digger, dude. Poppy is back at home and helping to care for her grandmother. Stephanie was a commercial banker, but she didn’t get a bailout. Nicole took a job, presumably a good job, but it’s not good enough for her. So basically the only reason she’s on this show is because she was in Miss USA. Gene was a financial advisor. Ironic. But he apparently did take his own advice because he has managed to live on his savings for three years.

The teams are split along gender lines. They will go and pick their team names and the project leaders.

The name Phoenix comes up from the men. Didn’t somebody do that already? They ultimately go with the name Octane. Dull. Gene has been nominated as the leader by Wade. He is onboard with that.

Not to be outdone, the women suggest Phoenix as well. Then they consider Inspire. A web search turns up their ultimate decision, Fortitude. Nicole willingly steps forward to lead this task.

The first task will be to design and build an ultramodern workspace, as opposed to a regular modern workspace. They will be judged on execution, functionality, and originality. Trump will pick which one he likes best.

Tyana says she has design or style experience. Nicole wouldn’t have guessed that by what she’s wearing. All of Tyana’s ideas end up being ignored.

Gene wants to create a green office space. Now he just has to figure out what that means.

The women have decided to go for a modern executive theme. Because that really narrows it down.

Mahsa is frustrated with Nicole. She wants to be told what to do, not think for herself.

James and Anand take control of the architect’s time. Clint is disappointed not to be able to get involved.

Nicole insists on dragging Stephanie with her to go shopping for equipment, but Stephanie insists they go get Tyana involved. Nicole doesn’t like this idea, nor does she like Tyana.

Gene assigns Clint and David to order plants. It soon becomes clear that these two guys can’t work together. A shouting match ensues.

Nicole reluctantly takes Tyana with her. She wants to have a good excuse when Trump asks her questions. Having wasted so much time, this will allow 45 minutes to pick out their furniture. Since Tyana is able to get the job done despite a time crunch, Nicole has decided she no longer hates her.

Since the men are unable to get anything together, Gene flips the switch. This is not a democracy any more. No talk, no breathe. It goes without saying that David won’t be able to bite his tongue for long. He needs a timeout.

Don Jr. asks Nicole who has been her biggest help and her biggest detriment. Her biggest help has been Tyana for helping with the creative, although yesterday she was the biggest detriment, unable to make up her mind like Cyndi Lauper. Overhearing this conversation, in which Nicole just got done saying she’s her biggest help, Tyana ignores that part and only listens to the complaint. With that, she proceeds to trash Nicole to Don.

Gene has been gone for a couple hours. When he gets back, he tells James that he doesn’t like what he’s doing and to start over. James attempts to tell him why this is not a good idea, but Gene does not want to hear anything. This guy just went from one extreme to the next. Eventually, James gets his way and can proceed with doing what he had originally been doing.

Trump visits both teams but keeps his poker face on. It’s not entirely clear whether he likes what he sees. The answer to that is he does not. Neither space is very good, but one is slightly better than the other. One thing he obviously did not like was that two people tripped over the rugs in the men’s space. Having been responsible for the rugs, Anand takes the hit for this.

David was proud of Gene at the end of the task, in spite of the rough start and barking orders. Gene struggles to give an answer as to who is his weakest link, but he finally kinda decides on David and James. Ivanka is surprised by this suggestion because James seemed like the leader when she was there.

Don Jr. points out that Clint’s the only one not wearing a tie. To him, tieless is casual.

Tyana didn’t think Nicole led, and she does not give her credit for what she considers a great job. Liza supports this theory, and so will Mahsa given the chance. None of them like the concept of having to make their own decisions.

Speaking of Mahsa, now it’s time to slip into assistant district attorney role. Yeah, she’s a bitch, and her insistence of how bad Nicole was goes overboard. Nicole would like to get a word in edgewise, but she can’t. Finally, Trump gets tired of hearing her and asks her to stop.

Ivanka likes how the men had a more open area, and she also liked the color better. Given the size of the space, the women were too constricted. Don Jr. agrees that the men did better. They had a modern workspace, whereas the women had a great 200 year old law firm.

Agreeing with his children, Trump gives the victory to the men. He likes the openness and James’ artwork. For his reward, Gene will get a meeting with a top CEO: Donald Trump.

Tyana blames lack of leadership for the loss. Trump disagrees.

Liza says they missed the boat on design. Poppy points the finger at Nicole for this. Nicole accepts partial responsibility, but is not letting Tyana off the hook that easily. Tyana agrees but doesn’t think she should be fired because she chose the most modern aspects, like the weird painting of the old guy who had nothing to do with anything.

Brandy says that Nicole should be fired for taking the risk of volunteering to be the project manager. Really? At least she stepped up.

Ivanka was shocked by how Mahsa ripped her leader apart, before even knowing what the end result was. This is an invitation for Mahsa to ramble on. During this, she asks Nicole a question. When Nicole goes to answer, Mahsa says “Let me finish.” Don’t ask questions you don’t want the answer to.

Poppy says that, if he’s going on leadership, Trump should fire Nicole. She does not have any other ideas for him.

Liza, too, would fire Nicole. There’s a problem with this attack on leadership. Trump already told them he thought she was a good leader. That was their cue to turn their knives in another direction and not focus singly on this one person.

Nicole would like to bring Mahsa and Tyana back to the boardroom.

Mahsa says she worked like a dog during this task. The only thing I can tell she’s working is her mouth. Can she be medicated already? Nicole is being very respectful and quiet, not wanting to get into a shouting match. Trump’s not a big fan of lack of shouting. After they leave the room, Ivanka says she almost wants to fire Mahsa for being so disrespectful.

Mahsa needs to go. She can’t work in a group. The problem with that theory is simply that Trump loves drama. She definitely brings the drama. People will hate her guts, and they will talk about it at the water cooler.

Ivanka thinks Nicole is the obvious choice, but Mahsa’s just digging her own grave. Don Jr. doesn’t like that Nicole is not shouting like the others are.

When they return to the boardroom, without any indication to begin, Mahsa starts yet again. She asks why she is there, and maybe this time she will give Nicole a chance to answer. She does. Briefly. Trump again has to tell Mahsa to cool down and let somebody else talk. In this final boardroom is when Nicole opts to be the bulldog, and this time she will keep talking until she makes herself heard.

What would Mahsa say if Tyana were fired? It would be a terrible injustice, which she would know as an attorney.

In spite of how obnoxious Mahsa is, Nicole suggests firing Tyana.

Nicole has been fired. She was the project manager, and she lost. At least try to come up with a good reason. When all’s said and done, Trump will be setting her up for an interview with Miss Universe because he does think she’s a good leader and that the rest of the team was wrong, no matter how much his kids harped on the rest of the team hating her.
